0:01 all right it's when show time again and
0:05 you guys may or may not have noticed there's something a little different
0:10 about the show today i know what it is
0:14 i'm screen sharing off a mac i'm using a mac oh no that's it isn't it
0:20 unsubbed i know right um so yeah we've got a couple special
0:25 guests we've got jay's two cents from the youtube channel jay's two cents
0:28 there's pretty much no way you guys don't know who he is and
0:32 then we've got dimitri from hardware canucks who a lot of you will probably
0:37 know who he is as well so we've got a lot of great topics for you guys today
0:40 uh what what are they oh yeah in unexpected news
0:46 AMD's vega graphics cards are more expensive than msrp
0:50 oh my god who saw that coming more vegan news oh wait i've got okay you guys are
0:54 all being sarcastic which is kind of a dick move okay this is not a sarcastic
0:58 show no okay this is uh this is a forthright and clear
1:03 communicative show sentences
1:08 in other news Intel claims that the 8700k will be
1:12 about 11 faster than the 7700k
1:16 cool can we just not say anything if we're going to be not sarcastic you know what
1:20 if you guys aren't going to like you guys aren't going to do the show nicely
1:23 then you could just go actually you know what no i'm just gonna go
1:28 okay okay well after that we have probably
1:31 the intro no show's over this is the end
1:35 this is the end of everything the end of
1:39 we know days
1:43 you are the weakest like goodbye goodbye
1:46 you are where'd you find that at the very bottom
1:50 what what i was looking for it neither of us
1:53 could find it just for that but well for that that was in like one of your main
1:57 compartments neither of us could find it we were both looking for it yeah
2:01 good job nick magic hands magic hands
2:05 oops i clicked the wrong thing uh uh uh
2:09 okay back on the oh oh no terrible everything's terrible what are you doing
2:13 uh hold on hold on i got this uh uh okay
2:17 there and uh sponsors
2:20 what do you have there we go don't worry about it don't worry about the nascar hat there's
2:25 reasons that will be revealed at another time yeah it has nothing to do with scrap yard
2:30 wars or the closed toed shoes yeah
2:33 not that these guys are here also has nothing to do yes nothing right we flew
2:37 in for a WAN Show only okay so actually
2:40 i think that's probably a great topic for us to start with uh guys
2:45 get amped about the upcoming season of scrapyard of course it's probably not
2:50 going to be out for like six weeks to eight weeks
2:54 like i'm talking first episode but it's our christmas present to you
2:59 first on Floatplane and it'll be out first on Floatplane by that
3:04 by that time Floatplane nope let's not go with that Floatplane might not even
3:08 exist anymore for all we know who knows um
3:11 but uh what i will say i'm you know there's gonna be no spoilers on the show
3:15 today you guys but what i will say is a huge thank you to uh jay and dimitri for
3:21 flying all the way up here the pleasure was all ours yes thank you
3:24 for the invite cool i'm uh yeah i was like we had a lot of fun so that's
3:29 that's the only spoiler i'll give you guys is it was a ton of fun
3:32 and uh yeah you know what that's it
3:36 that's it so and now radio silence and don't even bother trying to get anything
3:40 out of these guys because they know the scrapyard wars code yeah say
3:46 something and die i mean
3:49 it's more like um what what is it uh
3:54 a say um things say and a i day
3:58 you know we'll go with the pig latin version of the code
4:02 but yeah i just like that we left it where it sits that's it in a nutshell
4:06 um all right so guys first uh first article
4:10 today this was posted by stay ass on the forum and the original article here how
4:14 do i click a link on a mac what the hell is this yes okay okay
4:19 uh yeah no spoilers okay i just wanna now it works
4:24 don't just don't push it to the first brush oh pressure what why pressure i know
4:29 pressure and then i go i go to i go to use the touch screen to to zoom and it's like no
4:35 you'll have to do ah i want my computer back
4:39 okay anyway anyway um aib partners to gamers nexus this was
4:44 supposed to buy steve burke you know stephen right yeah you know stephen yeah okay
4:48 uh gibbo was right about AMD price changing i like his hair
4:53 AMD basically came out of the gate with vega 56 and vega 64 with and i think you
4:59 guys and your reviews probably agreed vega 64 looks
5:03 okay other than being a couple years late because it's basically an
5:07 overclocked 980 ti and vega 56 looks pretty good it's the
5:13 400 dollar king okay for compute anyway
5:17 okay so now
5:21 it looks like price of vega 64 was supposed to be 500
5:26 but quickly shot to 600 us dollars in the wake of
5:30 immediate inventory selling out so is this actual msrp
5:35 and uh or is this just stores reacting
5:38 i'm going with the latter
5:42 yeah let's see yeah cause we can't really blame them
5:45 for that so this is interesting apparently what does the website say AMD
5:49 provided the top retailers and e-tailers with a 4.99 price on vegas 64 coupling
5:55 sale of the card with a rebate to reduce spend by retailers
5:58 um so basically that's uh like it's usually called like a pos rebate a
6:03 point-of-sale rebate apparently the rebate is already expiring
6:09 hence the price jump by retailers
6:12 oh it was that fast yeah well see this is something that is kind of not public
6:17 knowledge this is more and i'm sure i'm over like the statute
6:20 of limitations for my old job as a
6:24 product manager but it is um
6:29 uh it is pretty tight to be an AMD partner
6:34 i've gotten a lot of feedback in the industry over the years
6:37 being an NVIDIA add-in card partner i think they call
6:41 them aibs and i think AMD calls them aics adding card versus add-in board
6:46 right being an NVIDIA partner versus an AMD
6:49 partner is supposedly a lot better
6:52 now xfx you guys probably remember this yeah yeah uh when did they jump ship
6:58 uh AMD yeah like was it like four thousand six six thousand oh sorry uh
7:03 six thousand series oh no no it was four thousand series i think you're right so
7:06 it was like so that was when AMD looked
7:10 because they were competing against um
7:13 was that the 480 generation or had they just g was out then they just hadn't
7:17 refreshed in forever basically
7:21 they they turned tail on NVIDIA and they went to AMD
7:25 and um my understanding is that it's been
7:28 pretty rough over there is is all i can all i can really say but
7:33 what are your guys's thoughts on the pricing of vega 64 in particular
7:39 it looks like here having effectively been increased
7:44 i think it's only going to be beneficial for those that are using the compute performance honestly not as a gaming
7:48 card right because at that point it makes no sense now you're talking 1080ti
7:51 pricing which dominates it in games
7:56 but at the exact same time not not in terms of making sense but AMD right now
7:59 has a very aggressive very dedicated fan base
8:03 that's true so it might not even matter my my concern with this though was that
8:07 that fan base is usually though attached to the performance per dollar aspect of
8:10 being an AMD fan uh yeah but AMD has put a lot of work
8:14 into making it a rebellious stance instead of just necessarily a
8:19 performance per dollar because they were definitely performance per dollar uh
8:23 like with the 3000 series Intel processors and
8:27 like a couple generations back with like 200 series AMD graphics cards but more
8:31 recently i feel like they've been shifting it i think the bigger question
8:35 you told me right though i think the bigger question here the one that
8:38 affects our audience and the one that affects us as reviewers more
8:42 is this artificial rebate
8:45 that's only valid for i mean the card only launched what a week ago
8:50 so a rebate that they're putting on the card for a week to hit a price
8:55 that isn't sustainable that affects your conclusion about the
8:59 card and yours and it's not like especially as youtubers it's not like we
9:03 can go back and edit our article be like yeah the price
9:07 to performance sucks donkey balls now and not not to flatter ourselves but
9:10 that's where a lot of research is happening right now is youtube
9:13 especially for people that are getting new into computers and might not think
9:17 to check a whole bunch of different sites like written sites that can be
9:21 updated like gamers next this guy we just talked about him he might say in
9:25 his video pricing and stuff is in is on our website i've seen him say that
9:28 before so that they can update it and that's cool but like for something like
9:32 uh like a a 490 feeling changes yeah like a like a budget graphics card where
9:37 they're going like we're the we're the new 499 or 399 king 399 king
9:43 and then if we if our conclusion is check the link in the description for
9:47 price for the most updated pricing on amazon but we say yeah AMD's positioned this
9:53 card really well its performance looks great and the value is great
9:58 if it's a if it's 80 or 100 more expensive i feel like what they've done
10:02 is they've made NVIDIA feel like a more compelling
10:05 deal or budget at that point i mean because 1070 right competes against 56
10:10 and 56 was beating 1070 pretty much across the board but now you increase
10:14 that price why would i want a 56 unless i'm going compute i mean if i can use
10:18 the compute aspect of it then yeah it dominates both of them dominate what
10:21 NVIDIA has to offer but the question is how many of these buyers are actually
10:24 buying them for compute or to be a part of that rebellion nation yeah
10:28 also will this affect any of the bundle stuff that the AMD is
10:32 putting out right yeah it would have to so the bundles would have to go up by a hundred bucks too yeah
10:37 i feel like yeah the bundles would just go up and i don't think anything else would change i don't think the bundles
10:40 are going to get anything the bundles were a terrible idea to begin with i just really don't like being screwed
10:45 around with like this yeah i don't like being manipulated in a way where like
10:49 there's there's a couple things and you know what it's one of those things where i'm not just gonna crap on AMD for this
10:53 like you and i have talked about this offline i think i might have mentioned it to you but i was really really
10:59 displeased when NVIDIA had a separate unboxing embargo
11:04 for the 1080 ti because you know what that is
11:08 that's NVIDIA saying
11:11 max do you need some help over there maybe no
11:15 what are we changing i don't know it looks tilted and i had to fix it okay
11:19 all right focus now i really would have just maybe
11:23 left it also point it towards Linus a little bit more
11:28 that's a bit okay okay let's just let's not touch it anymore okay
11:33 um hey thanks max okay what were we talking about again your time at the
11:37 unboxing right okay so there were a couple things wrong
11:40 with that number one was that paul had already done an unboxing at the event
11:44 and that's nothing against yeah because why not super cool but i think they saw
11:48 the traction that that sort of got and then they came up with the idea of like oh we better reel this in and you know
11:53 put an embargo on this because what they're trying to get because
11:57 that effectively what they're getting when they do a launch event we all
12:01 accept it because it gives us access to talk to the developers of the product
12:06 right in a way that we don't get to on just a lot more helpful than a
12:10 conference call yeah so so we we all accept these events that they
12:14 do because it's also an opportunity to network within the industry most of the
12:18 time i've spent with you guys it has has been events industry events
12:22 but what's really frustrating is that NVIDIA
12:26 controls the narrative at that point because any news story and we have to do
12:30 a news story because everybody else is going to do a new story so that's my
12:35 upload that day that's jay's upload that day that's dimitri's upload that day
12:38 that's other content that might be more meaningful because it's not just
12:42 regurgitating the same information everybody has that isn't going up
12:46 because we're busy traveling for a day yeah spending it at an event and then
12:50 traveling back for another day we just spent one percent of our year
12:54 on this event to make the same piece of content that everybody else is making
12:58 for me personally and they're okay they're nice yeah there can be some value to that
13:02 because people might have different opinions or insights or ideas about how
13:07 something might be used blah blah blah but it's a lot it's a lot to put on one
13:11 item and when you have to do just an unboxing
13:15 it's a it's pretty unlikely that you'll have a lot of unique insights well not even
13:18 that this is kind of off topic a little bit but then it goes as far as starting to
13:23 break down the information like you can get this piece of information we get
13:27 this piece later this piece tomorrow right the pricing issue that happened with 1080 ti which is a huge issue yeah
13:32 so what this looks like to me because NVIDIA is effectively getting marketing
13:37 out of bringing people to this event they're just regurgitating whatever was
13:41 on NVIDIA slides because that's all the information we have so far we don't have
13:46 any benchmarks like how fast is the the
13:49 uber card 10 000 or whatever
13:52 so then there's that date let's say let's say march 1st for the sake of
13:56 argument then march 14th would be the
13:59 review embargo typically or yeah like they ever give us two weeks yeah yeah
14:03 maybe like march 8th would be the review embargo that gives us a week to get back
14:07 home test it formulate our opinions and go okay that thing we talked about a
14:11 week ago here's the real skinny now they're putting this additional day
14:16 a few days later where they're going okay now you can publish your unboxing
14:19 here's the problem with that the unboxing contains no information
14:24 that's new yeah and especially when it's not even retail packaging yeah it's just
14:28 a physical showcase
14:32 it's just a glamour video yeah i think they should be paying for that because
14:35 effectively what they're getting is marketing so when NVIDIA sent us an embargo for an
14:41 unboxing of the 1080 ti i basically sent them back an angry email went this is bs
14:47 you guys are asking for free advertising no
14:52 no NVIDIA no hard no right yeah yeah
14:55 yeah so AMD went and pulled the same thing with threadripper on the CPU side
15:01 and then on the GPU side honestly this feels even worse in some
15:06 way because instead of instead of asking for free marketing what they've done is
15:11 they've manipulated the conclusions of what is supposed to be an independent
15:15 evaluation yeah i mean like you said it's so close to
15:19 the launch date that's i mean our reviews are still not
15:22 even cooled off yet and now that whole the whole budget factor of it is just
15:26 wrong and like i'm sure
15:30 one maybe two guys will make a video about that right yeah but there's only
15:35 enough space for that because honestly most people in the audience won't really
15:39 care they won't care in terms of like oh i'm going to watch all of these videos
15:43 because i'm that interested you know what i mean nope so then it's the the
15:46 roi on making one of those isn't really there for the creators so then they're
15:49 probably not going to make it yep and is the rebate information
15:53 available to to the reviewers until a certain point i didn't know anything
15:56 about no rebate yeah i i didn't know anything about it and i didn't know that
16:00 it was going to be expiring after a week yeah
16:03 if they had been upfront about that then this is a totally different conversation
16:07 and that's and that's not even that it doesn't even mention the fact
16:10 that they only launched with bendel's to begin with anyway yeah really hard to
16:14 find a card by itself the bundles were the only thing you could find all the
16:17 retailers were doing bundles yep and i mean like if we want to keep going on
16:21 about grievances with the rx vega launch um
16:24 you know when did you get your vega 56
16:27 um friday before the lunch yeah so we got
16:31 it friday morning before what was it a monday 6 a.m launch yeah so
16:36 if anyone from AMD's watching i'ma break this down for you
16:39 saturday and sunday are both considered weekends
16:43 and it is fairly typical for people who have a
16:47 life or a family or both
16:51 i don't know if anyone has both or none
16:55 can you have a life and a family okay whatever not the point the point
16:59 the point is that those two days are weekend days which are generally
17:03 considered the days that you spend having a life or having a family right
17:08 so then we have to make the choice right so i have to tell my wife and my kids
17:11 last minute like hey i've got to work all day saturday oh and by the way i'm
17:15 going to be leaving for a whole week right after that you know so i lose a
17:18 whole a whole saturday with them yep and literally that was
17:22 we just added a whole sixth workday to the week just to handle that well you
17:25 could just you could just wait and you could you could just publish so here's
17:29 the thing we had vega 64 like a week before and we had the drivers and
17:33 everything and we were told that vega 56
17:37 was going to be coming was going to be lifted way later like quite a bit later
17:41 so we weren't so we were like we were like yeah everything's fine and then a
17:45 card literally arrived here friday morning
17:48 at 56 and i was like what are we supposed to do with a message asking to prioritize it
17:52 did they for you yeah oh i don't i think we didn't get that until like even later
17:57 in the day yeah i know the message was 56 is coming please please prioritize it
18:02 if you can i got a new driver on the weekend yeah no no you're absolutely right and
18:06 remember guys this is a 6 a.m pacific
18:10 launch time so you have to be done the night before so you actually have to be rendering
18:14 your video by like sunday evening
18:19 because there might be errors there may be things you have to correct the render might not work there might be edits you
18:23 have to make because of a problem taryn's very intimately
18:26 familiar with this yeah so
18:30 well it's kind of like right before the new CPU platform launches too right how many BIOS updates are there like up to
18:35 the day of launch i would be it's really funny people are joking in the twitch
18:39 chat about like youtuber union or something like that
18:43 here is an interesting thought oh i'm directly what if every
18:48 tech guy on youtube got together and said no
18:52 screw your embargo we'll go when we're all ready i've kind
18:56 of started doing that vegas the first actual embargo date i've
19:00 hit in a long time thread didn't hit ryzen three five and seven i didn't hit
19:04 Intel i didn't usually go for like two three days after everybody published two
19:07 three weeks sometimes because i'm tired of the situation like Linus is talking
19:11 about and what you're talking about with last minute drivers and stuff that i just wait for things to kind of settle
19:14 and then i go into it start making a like review embargo alliance
19:19 yeah review embargo alliance because like
19:22 we had to pull in we had to pull in multiple people on a saturday yeah to
19:27 come in basically because the video was completely done
19:30 yeah by the time we had a vega 56 in our hand
19:34 yeah yeah so teren's over there informing us that it was indeed him that
19:38 edited it all too yeah so now he has like that didn't get to go anywhere i've
19:42 just gotten so sick and tired of all the last minute changes and the way it actually changes the whole landscape uh
19:47 that i've just decided like i'm no longer going to abide by the embargo
19:51 dates trying to hit them if i'm late that's fine enough my audience is willing to wait and watch it anyway yeah
19:55 but i'm tired of feeling like i'm just an extension of someone else's marketing team so tell me this
20:01 um oh shoot i completely lost track of what i was going to say there bloody
20:04 hell sorry it's been a long week
20:07 it has something something embargo something embargo union
20:12 yeah something something etc yeah forget
20:15 it i got nothing so uh basically i'm frustrated it's stupid and
20:21 uh i've had enough of this crap
20:24 oh now i'm really frustrated it was like a
20:27 it was like a great discussion thing i was really looking forward to talk about
20:30 something very temporarily while you can try to think about that do you want to
20:33 talk about what the the the premise or the rules were for the scrapyard wars
20:37 yeah go ahead go ahead so for this scrapyard wars the idea was instead of
20:41 starting at the office and working out of the office the entire time like we
20:44 have in the past we had two teams should we see what the teams were yeah
20:47 absolutely that's already public oh okay yeah so oh right that makes
20:51 sense so it's myself and jay and Linus and dimitri and we started out actually
20:55 in the city of vancouver which is about an hour from here and we had a fair
21:00 amount of cash i can say how much but a fair amount of cash but some of that
21:04 cash had to be allocated to food and water
21:07 you had no budget for food you couldn't just buy food normally scrapbook was you
21:11 could buy whatever food you wanted while you're going with your own money um but
21:15 this time to be fair it didn't have to it's just if it's allocated from your
21:18 budget yeah anything you spent anything you need anything you had to come out of
21:22 that budget if you wanted to bike somewhere you'd have to buy or rent a
21:25 bike if you wanted to transit somewhere further out you'd have to get a bus pass
21:29 or a transit pass of some sort or get a cab or whatever
21:33 so yeah it was it was a very interesting setup both teams
21:38 decided to go at it in certain ways that i'm not going to describe because i'm
21:41 worried about going too deeply into it uh but yeah it was very interesting and
21:44 quite a bit different from any other scrapyard worse than being an empty cup
21:49 i'm just laughing all the get jay water comments because i took a drink from an empty cup i was like oh
21:56 i'm trying to make up for all the water that you know we needed yes yeah don't
22:00 spoil it water doesn't spoil
22:04 that's well what no this uh don't say you figured it out
22:08 yeah i never figured out what it was but i had really like just wanted to talk a
22:11 little bit more about um sort of how they're handling it and how it's uh
22:18 we've had to do it before we've had to delay videos we've missed embargoes
22:21 which are fairly important but we've found not the
22:24 most important thing and sometimes it helps if there does happen to be a
22:28 change yeah because then we can talk about the change and that one video will
22:31 pick up traction but it's usually only us or only jay or only dimitri or
22:36 only one type of creator that's making that one delayed video i
22:42 do wonder what the what the the fallout would be not really fallout
22:45 but what would the impact be if suddenly the entire tech scene on youtube just
22:49 said no we're not gonna hit your embargo we all collectively say we'll wait two
22:54 weeks to see where things land because we'd still be in that window of
22:57 AMD pulling this or would they just postpone this i don't know i don't know how they'd
23:02 react because i told them i think you guys should push it
23:06 i think they might i think they might think initially especially something like NVIDIA right they might think that
23:10 there's not gonna be any impact whatsoever but that's that'd be an interesting metric to see how it
23:14 actually plays out i don't think NVIDIA gives two craps what any of us think i
23:17 think you're right to be perfectly honest um it's really funny because like i
23:21 think you take this somewhat too but we we take flack all the time for being in
23:24 NVIDIA's pocket or whatever somewhat i think somewhat yeah yeah no
23:29 we do when show is brought to you by NVIDIA so
23:33 yeah according to the audience anyway so like it's it's one of those things where
23:37 like you know i've butted heads with them a fair number of
23:41 times recently more often than i like go to a nice
23:45 dinner and you know talk shop
23:49 it's been it's been it's been pretty tough lately actually
23:53 all right so let's have a look at uh we didn't get titan xp
23:58 needed today until like now yeah we have one now yeah cause they were like oh
24:02 what you guys don't have one i was like no i asked for one for terry crews and
24:06 they said no seriously what they turned me down until i made that video talk like talking crap
24:10 about titan xp which would have gone out regardless because i think it's a really
24:14 stupid card based on like the way they're locking down the cuda cores and
24:17 yeah they're unlocking it multiple times in the same generation uh but it was after that they're like
24:22 two of them just showed up right right so they they hand delivered
24:26 them yeah i was like they're not even for me i don't even care right they're not for
24:31 me and like this is this is a stupid thing on both the vendor side and the
24:35 audience side do you guys honestly think
24:39 that jay can be bought with a graphics card that doesn't pay my lease
24:44 doesn't pay for my employees my insurance do you need more graphics
24:48 cards jay it's pretty obvious i don't sell them i mean you can see the shop you know
24:53 no i they they do not run my business in fact i started buying more stuff than
24:57 ever now i've noticed that you were talking about buying lots of stuff for
25:00 yourself just it's just easier and it's getting
25:05 right away you don't have to yeah yep and now with your scrap yard work
25:09 experience you can buy more stuff too with someone else's money which is great
25:16 speaking of someone else's money the show today is brought to you by
25:21 cablemod yeah i've got some stuff over there yeah okay
25:27 so cablemod now has
25:31 sleeving for aios have you guys seen
25:34 this have you heard about this yeah oh okay i did a great review that was very
25:37 well received oh okay i didn't watch it i know you didn't watch it either um
25:43 so basically you buy your aio and then with no actual modification required you
25:48 guys can go watch jay's video because we didn't review them um
25:52 but there you go you just kind of unfold it and then you don't have to like take
25:55 off the tubing or anything like that you just wrap it around and you end up with
25:58 that nice sleeved look on your aio cooler tubes and matches your cabling
26:04 assuming you went and bought cable mod cabling and
26:07 that's pretty much it they've got little finishing pieces for the end so they
26:10 look nice and tidy and uh what else can i really say about
26:14 it i mean it's a pretty simple idea it just took someone to do it the colors do
26:17 specifically match their cable sleeving so they're perfectly mesh for that so
26:21 they've got lots and lots of different colors you guys can go check them out
26:24 they've also just launched their sleeving kits on amazon so we've got a
26:29 link in the video description for that but basically it's uh hold on a second
26:34 and can i even figure out how to do this on a mac
26:37 holy crap you can't you can't right click it's two finger click copy you have to
26:42 like to finger tap it two finger tap ah it took me a while so i'm not signed in
26:46 so forget it uh the link will be below the video i'll get it
26:50 all right what else we got here oh yes
26:54 today's show challenge also brought to you by
27:00 g fuel that's right the same g fuel that
27:03 we were check it out
27:07 that right there is concentrated blue energy g fuel
27:11 powers the editing of many of our videos
27:15 and the writing of most episodes of fast as possible around here we actually
27:20 consume as an office
27:24 amount of g fuel yeah so uh basically how it works is you choose your fuel
27:29 select your drink mix from up from over excuse me from 18 flavors they ship it
27:33 directly to you you just add water so you mix one serving into a glass or
27:37 shaker cup filled with 16 ounces of water and enjoy it comes in tubs
27:43 just like that boxes containing packs or just the little packs themselves and
27:49 then who put this note in here a bunch of the people here at the office pretty
27:53 much live off of it so what john
27:56 john for sure i know Colton drinks a lot of Colton thinks a lot of it i've seen a
27:59 bunch in the editing den but i'm not entirely sure who drinks it in there i'm not sure i think ed does i wouldn't be
28:05 surprised at all i'm pretty sure ed consumes copious amounts of it
28:08 um so there you have it their goal was to create an alternative to sugar loaded
28:13 canned energy drinks and now you can have these packets you mix them with
28:17 water and bippity bop you're ready to go so you can save 40
28:21 until august 21st using offer code Linus at the link that i am definitely going
28:26 to put right here right now over at gfuel.com
28:31 all right our last sponsor
28:34 go team solo
28:38 have you guys tried savage turkey do you guys want to try it you don't
28:41 have to this is like my sponsor sponsors spicy that's right they're spicy carrots
28:45 can i get more water first are you watching yeah you can yeah you can get
28:49 some more water i will personally go get you once
28:53 he's gonna go no i want Linus to do it now he said he would no i'll do it i'll do it okay i got Linus to get up and
28:58 leave his own show to get me water that's a win so we got the reaper
29:02 we got the uh okay so if you're i've been informed this is moho not mojo mojo
29:07 if you're if you're like into spicy but not an insane amount of
29:11 spicy like you don't want your face to literally melt but you're into spicy i
29:15 like mojo i think people have been eating these because they're like all
29:18 almost empty yeah everyone's just like oh yeah i'll just
29:21 like eat one no one will know that's really hot one that's that's pretty hot
29:25 and reaper i think is even hotter yeah reaper is the crazy one ghost pepper is
29:29 like pretty damn hot mohoe's on this is less teriyaki
29:32 this is like a three so it's like spicy
29:36 and it'll kick okay uh so the reaper is a five it like makes its own level
29:40 does it smell ghost pepper is a floral taste okay this one's just delicious if
29:44 you guys just want something tasty before you melt your taste buds off what
29:47 is this mojo this is only a one so if you want to try a piece so savage jerky
29:52 the jerkys made with the best ingredients without nitrates or preservatives the goal was to create a
29:56 snack that was full of flavor and spice that's not bad for you they've got 13
30:00 different flavors my personal favorites are moho
30:04 as well as the maple buffalo bacon and
30:07 some of the uh some of the taste bud melty ones are actually pretty darn good
30:11 they've got uh they're delicious while your face melts made of ghost pepper
30:15 as well as uh carolina reapers and you can use offer code LTT
30:19 to save 10 10 over at savage jerky.com
30:24 all right i will go get you some water thank you sir and uh you can go ahead
30:28 and pick one of those if you want i'm not going to make you do it though because they're like my girlfriend would
30:31 die savage is right in the name oh really this is too spicy okay you got a
30:35 giant piece in there i think you'll be good i love habanero yeah i think you'll be
30:39 good yeah will i be good if you will if you if you don't like spice don't eat
30:43 that one but if you like spice it's it's good but the mojo one's not hot no the
30:47 mohawk one's a one it's like it's not even supposed to be hot
30:54 good yeah yeah give me two minutes i'll be sweating
30:59 yeah the reapers the reaper is a bit of a kick that one kind of sucks that's a
31:03 five sucks in terms of like it hurts it tastes good to be fair
31:08 the only thing i don't like is like um the powder like sometimes like you
31:12 breathe the powder yeah but no flavor is really good because they try to they
31:16 they go pretty hard with the flavor stuff which i like for beef jerky i
31:19 think that's one of the reasons why that's something so much i'm cool with hot
31:24 yeah no it's not it's not too hot i swear
31:28 i'm cool with hot if it has flavor but yeah hot for the sake of hot noise i'm
31:31 the same way yeah i can deal with a fair amount of spice but it's i only it's not
31:35 even like water helps with the with habanero i'm just thirsty yeah
31:38 all right i'm gonna drop a bomb on you guys uh this was originally posted by
31:42 numlock21 on the forum the original article here is from videocards.com so
31:46 take it with a grain of salt uh Intel claims
31:51 the core i7 8700k will be 11 faster than the 7700k
31:59 and here's what i want to know because this is crazy well it is to be
32:04 fair this is a whole entire one percent higher than i would have guessed this is
32:09 what i want to know who needed Intel to claim this
32:14 to know that this was coming yeah i mean this is literally
32:21 this does this mean about does this mean that they're not
32:24 scared okay so here's the thing so there's two
32:28 things first of all the rumors are also that coffee lake is going to be
32:31 available in six core configurations which would legit be good okay so if
32:37 they're so they're keeping their 10 and adding course if they're 10 faster in
32:40 terms of ipc and they're adding
32:45 50 more cores then i'm looking at this going
32:50 that's a good job thank you for what should have happened two years ago but
32:55 okay yeah fine thank you i mean i'll i still appreciate
33:01 them doing something good even if it was a long time coming
33:06 and should have happened before so the 8700 kids is going to be the six core
33:10 excuse me it's supposed to be six core 12 thread with a single threaded boost
33:14 over the 7700k of about 11 percent yet
33:17 there'll still be an i5 and x299 at that time
33:21 uh yeah cause x299 is not gonna refresh by then so yeah i mean this is this is yet
33:27 another reason i mean you know okay you know my feelings i know your feelings on
33:33 the 7740 and the 7640. those two skus
33:37 make no sense at all and when coffee lake launches
33:41 those skus remember the whole point of the high-end desktop platform is
33:46 supposed to be mucho memory bandwidth mucho pci e-lanes and mucho processing
33:52 cores and moho jerky those chips have
33:56 none of those things they have beefed up power delivery so
34:01 theoretically you can overclock them a little higher they're still dual core they still have the mainstream platform
34:06 number of PCIe lanes and they're still quad core processors and they're pulling significantly more power than their
34:10 mainstream counterparts and now compared to the mainstream platform
34:15 that's coming oh i don't know what it's rumored to be launching what in it
34:19 so it would be three months later if the rumors are true
34:23 it will be two generations behind architecturally two
34:30 and that might only be ten percent per generation or you know eight percent or
34:34 whatever but still two generations times ten percent is not complicated math
34:38 that's twenty percent so if you had a five gigahertz processor let's say
34:41 you're an overclocker it's actually better than that because ten percent on top of ten
34:45 percent that's right so let's say you're you're an overclocker uh you get to five
34:49 gigahertz we're talking about now on this high-end
34:53 platform you would be equivalent to the
34:56 mainstream's performance at what like four gigahertz right
35:03 well that's not good yeah why did i just go spend 350 on a
35:08 motherboard Intel because they're hoping you're gonna just step forward or future compatibility
35:13 with more expensive bigger but why would you still spend you know almost 400 on
35:17 that CPU for getting the i7 that's the thing it's like i get that argument if
35:21 it's like a pentium dual core or something and that's devil's advocate argument as far as i'm concerned right
35:26 like like i've seen that before like pentium anniversary edition where we're
35:30 talking a hundred dollar chip right you buy something to to get running today
35:35 you hope it doesn't drop in value too much you flip because a hundred dollar
35:38 CPU if it drops in value twenty percent we're talking twenty bucks yeah
35:42 right and if you if you've managed to save up your 400 or 500 or whatever you
35:47 need for an eight-core processor by that point then surely the 20 is not that big of a
35:51 deal some time has passed i get that logic but here we're talking about a 300
35:56 plus dollar processor that you're buying as a placeholder
36:00 doesn't make sense do you guys buy a 300 processor as a placeholder in the socket
36:04 i i don't really buy processors as placeholders
36:08 right and we never recommend that no
36:12 do do you guys ever recommend that buy heart buy hardware that isn't what
36:16 you actually need and then like like buy something else later yeah i know i would
36:20 unless you're like crazy like craigslist or use site junkie
36:25 because like you've done this kind of stuff but you're constantly flipping things so you were never planning on
36:29 holding it for more than like possibly even two weeks but even then it doesn't
36:32 matter you're not buying new anyway no yeah exactly so yeah so it's not even
36:37 applicable so like i could see buying a 7740 from some idiot who bought it
36:43 realized that this was really stupid and then it's like oh crap this thing isn't
36:47 worth much i guess i'll just take a bath on it i could buy from that guy yeah and then
36:53 then i do buy myself a few months to save up and i can probably flip it for
36:56 pretty close to what i paid but i wouldn't buy something like that new no
37:01 that's why i threw mine in an htpc just because i was like what else am i going
37:04 to do with this oh i'll take the chip that doesn't make sense and put it in a form factor does it make sense for an
37:08 x299 platform to begin with so that my whole video was based on that
37:13 i just figured we'd put nonsense on top of nonsense
37:16 and then i called it my vr rig on top of that there you go oh
37:20 vr capable vr cable sticker put it on
37:23 we got to get as reviewers we need to get our own vr capable stickers and just
37:26 start putting them on every single it's a watermark on the video channel oh
37:29 perfectly already this video is vr ready yes but it's really not well you could
37:34 technically if you put it in theater mode oh true yeah watch it in vr theater
37:37 yes figured out vr ready this is vr ready
37:42 life is vr ready oh right yeah because you could buy an
37:46 oculus or anything else in life which means that it's vr ready i
37:50 was going with sony vr or whatever it is oh yeah also that
37:56 what yeah okay uh so the original article
38:01 here is from ours technica i've been completely out of the loop this week so
38:07 this isn't that crazy i can kind of explain why uh so apple is
38:12 investing a huge amount uh it says they're going all in but apple has a lot
38:17 of money yeah billion dollars is not all in so not at all um but they're they're
38:22 putting a billion dollar budget to apple shows uh so they're doing like the first
38:26 original series from them was planet of the apps and carpool karaoke and they're
38:30 doing more but this isn't that surprising netflix is going really
38:34 hardcore into original content they're going to be putting these shows on the
38:37 apple music thing so they probably need to rename that but oh well um a lot of
38:44 these big companies that are trying to serve video are going into original
38:47 content because licensing especially from
38:50 like big movies and big shows if you want to have all of them is obscenely
38:56 prohibitively expensive and this is something you and i have discussed um
38:59 apparently there isn't a video streaming platform
39:03 online like a significant one i mean that's
39:07 losing money yeah and you know now that we are really
39:12 digging and sometimes there sometimes they're parts of bigger companies and
39:15 then they don't care that they're not losing money or it's offset by some other aspect of the business exactly
39:19 yeah but the actual video streaming division
39:23 whether we're talking youtube um amazon
39:26 prime video netflix twitch as far as we can tell
39:31 they're all losing money and like hearing from certain people that work at
39:35 some of those companies not all of them but some of those companies we know people that
39:39 i think we know at least someone at pretty much all of them yeah
39:43 which makes moves like disney pulling all of their movies off of netflix to
39:46 have their own streaming service just really make you scratch your head i mean i know disney has disney money to
39:51 spend but still no company wants to bleed money but they all they already have a website and they've already been
39:55 streaming their own video to be fair so they just have to scale up yeah but you
39:59 you could get their stuff in other places now now their video is gonna be
40:02 available only on one source so they're gonna have to probably upscale anyway
40:05 and that way they can control the pricing too they can they can just they
40:08 can control the content that goes around it disney cares about that a lot yeah
40:12 they do and also users already getting familiar with needing to get their hands
40:17 into so many other platforms yeah and you know how we were talking about there's gonna be sites that pop up that
40:21 bring everything together they already exist right oh all right well there's already a thing yeah
40:25 so you just kind of like log in with all your logins there and then it just becomes a single house becomes one
40:29 viewing site yeah so like i got tons of tweets about
40:33 that last time yeah i think they're actually you know what i feel really stupid now because i know samsung had a
40:38 thing built into their smart tvs like a while back that mixes it all together
40:41 for years that actually it's just a browser of the other browsers yeah it
40:45 just goes and finds and it can even browse uh rental services like google
40:48 play oh that's neat you know what's really funny is on the subject of apple
40:52 uh doing their own original programming and like they should probably change the
40:55 name of like itunes now i
40:59 i gave google so much crap about google
41:02 play store back when they did it now
41:06 it totally makes sense yeah yeah play music play games play videos oh
41:13 they actually got that one right yep way to go google
41:17 i just did it way ahead of time when in the moment it didn't make a ton of sense
41:20 it just made a lot more sense in the future they were playing they were playing 3d chess they were doing the
41:25 long game and i was playing with you wow
41:29 that was that was what was going on there i didn't get it i mean that you
41:33 were you were making children at that point in time no not yet okay yeah no
41:38 not yet no uh that was a solo effort oh that's why it was just playing solo
41:42 effort i see yes okay yeah yeah yeah
41:46 still a fun game i'm surprised that with the one billion here
41:54 i put up the green screen picture from earlier and someone did that oh no
41:59 i love how you said that oh no
42:02 show him the other one these guys
42:05 they can't check out at jay's two cents uh actually
42:09 here i can i can pull it up yeah it's pretty it's pretty
42:13 so we we dimitri knight earlier if you guys follow our social media we stood in
42:16 front of their green screen and uh it was you know to give you guys an
42:19 opportunity to key out and play around with green screen pictures there's some good awesome there's some really good
42:23 creative people out there my goodness just go to media oh there it is yeah
42:28 also make sure to to tag some of them might not be appropriate so you might
42:32 not want to scroll live okay there it is well there's there's
42:36 the one we were looking for
42:40 that's your thinking up there jay would your wife approve who is that who is
42:43 that foxy uh foxy foxy babe
42:48 oh what is going on here dang it apple
42:53 what's up that's the sun okay
42:58 oh man that's great
43:01 oh my god that's that is great
43:08 all right see you we know have fun we can have fun
43:12 somehow work all right so here's some potentially big news so
43:17 pcgamer.com reports and i'm just gonna close this ad before i screen share with
43:21 you guys NVIDIA's next-gen volta gaming gpus
43:26 not arriving anytime soon well why would they so this picture right here is
43:30 jensen showing off volta already super duper definitely working
43:35 in the data center which means based on the way that NVIDIA rolls out
43:40 product they launched their big GPU first
43:44 and whatever product that is it used to be GeForce
43:48 now it never is but i'm not bitter and video launches their
43:52 big one first which means they've got the architecture
43:55 down and then they just they just cut they cut and cut and cut and the
43:59 performance goes down according to how much they cut away
44:03 that process usually takes like two to three months per per cut because there
44:07 is an art it's obviously more complicated than just like taking a pair
44:10 of scissors to a you know uh to a v100
44:14 and like taping that to a pcb like
44:17 um so there's r d that is involved with that and you've only got so many engineers at a time it's a resource
44:21 management thing so based on when they showed off
44:26 working like production volta silicon
44:30 it's been a while they could probably be launching a GeForce card now if they
44:34 felt like there's no reason to there's no mark there's there's no competition
44:37 for them to do it and they push back uh their hbm already generations from when
44:42 the original roadmap back in like 2012 was leaked yeah it was maxwell i believe
44:46 was when we were supposed to first see facebook hpm that was super duper but
44:49 they they now look at vega and they're just like why even invest in the manufacturing cost of this when we don't
44:54 have to when our when our traditional architecture is still topping the
44:57 competition and the other thing too is like NVIDIA strategically you've seen it over the
45:01 last five years has moved from try to make the GPU faster faster faster to try
45:06 to build out technology around the GPU
45:09 whether it's stuff that doesn't make a ton of sense to me personally like ansel
45:14 is that that screenshotting thing where you can capture like super
45:17 high resolution still do you guys know anyone that uses that have you used it
45:21 i've used it only in the demo version just to see how
45:24 high resolution you can go if you go like crank up the settings but outside
45:27 of seeing how beautiful you can turn those screenshots for like which are
45:31 three in the other games i've never done if you want like a big
45:35 poster in your on your own i have never used it ever like i'll tell you guys
45:38 this i remember this was a weird experience for me at a lan party this was back when like i went to lan party
45:43 so clearly i like played video games but i wasn't really like i didn't have like
45:47 a guild or like a clan or anything like
45:50 that so being like really into video games was kind of alien to me
45:55 and there were these two people at a land and it's only like a 45-50 person
45:59 land um which like it's big but it's not that big they spent like two hours
46:05 literally it felt like you know uncle
46:08 harold's like vacation pictures one of them was showing the other one an
46:14 album of wow screenshots yeah like this was the time we climbed to the top of
46:19 frickin some mountain and whoever clicked through the thing and like
46:23 whoever clipped through the thing so it was hyjal what i don't know what you're talking
46:26 about so see no this this this this might have been pretty cool okay one
46:30 thing wild screenshots was like a big deal because you'd show boss kills
46:34 and you'd usually have like the time stamp so if you were like world first or
46:38 server first or whatever you could show the boss kill um it could be and if he's
46:42 talking about mike don't hide the kill and this is when you were at
46:46 lan parties so this was probably classic wow correct yeah in classic wow you were
46:51 not allowed to get to mount hyjal so he probably has a similar screenshot set to
46:55 me which is glitching through many walls
46:58 and over many things and it takes like quite a while to get there and you're
47:01 just like screwing the game repeatedly and you get to a part of the game that
47:05 has like blizzard co construction signs
47:08 and there's stuff that never got released that's in there
47:12 like archimonde's like big giant skull leaning up against this tree and stuff
47:16 which was never in the game so it was actually super cool and it was glitchers
47:21 it wasn't necessarily just people that are interested in wow because i was a glitcher back then i broke like every
47:26 single aspect of halo 2. um a friend of mine utah crusher i
47:30 haven't talked to you in many years but this guy named utah crusher and i used
47:34 to play halo 2 together and we were like in the first group of
47:38 people that found the switching from rocket to a sword and flying across the
47:42 entire map glitch if you knew that one i killed hogger you
47:45 would do this thing where the rocket the the rocket you could aim at someone
47:50 and it would show it would show red because you were targeting them right
47:53 do you remember that i never played halo 2 that's an xbox game
47:57 okay whatever man if you if i think it happened in halo 1 too if you aimed over
48:02 top of someone the aimer would turn red
48:06 anyways i don't remember um that long time ago that was like a state and the
48:10 sword if the aimer was red you would lunge towards them and the state was
48:14 shared so if you switched it fast enough and lunged it wouldn't notice
48:19 that it wasn't in that state anymore so it would let you lunge to the person but
48:23 they're super far away because it's the targeting from the rocket launcher so
48:26 you just like and just fly it it was pretty cool we did a lot of other
48:30 stuff too i'm gonna stop that so i'll say this
48:34 many many of the screenshots were just like here's me and this other person in
48:38 a meadow no it was really bad
48:43 so okay anyway back to back to the topic
48:46 um a lot some of the stuff in videos building doesn't make a ton of sense to
48:50 me like ansel um but some of the stuff they're building does make a ton of
48:54 sense um things like uh streaming
48:58 uh better better GPU-based encoding and decoding okay all that kind of stuff
49:02 does make sense to me um so pretty much what they're doing is
49:07 they're kind of going we don't even we don't even
49:10 need to develop a much much faster GPU every
49:15 year we're just going to like put more tech in it to the point where even if
49:19 the rx vega 556
49:23 was the same price as a gtx 1070 NVIDIA's whole thing on their side is
49:27 like we still think you should buy a 1070 anyway because we do release day
49:31 drivers every time oh by the way they're wickle wall
49:35 um and then we've got all this other tech
49:38 we've got shadow play and and all that kind of stuff built into it
49:42 and uh you know AMD's approach is oh
49:45 yeah but like our approach is open and but you look at sometimes but the
49:50 video started opening stuff up too though sometimes open makes sense
49:53 but only if you're actually doing any work yeah cause like look at okay so
49:58 stereoscopic 3d however much of an abortion you may or
50:02 may not think it is NVIDIA did a better job because they
50:06 actually did work on it whereas AMD was just like yeah through izad 3d and
50:10 whatever that other thing was uh you can enable stereoscopic 3d on our
50:15 cards but they were these janky third party did you ever try is 3d it's no i
50:19 didn't it was awesome i never did NVIDIA's 3d stuff either it was awful
50:23 like if you think 3d is bad imagine 3d
50:27 but like there's no oxygen so just to say 3d
50:31 ready or whatever yeah just just to just just to have the checkbox it was super
50:36 bad yeah we did testing for that a long time people are telling me to shut up
50:40 uh they think like three quarters of the chat is dimitri
50:46 in the chat yeah so much of it you talked yeah i mean you
50:51 gave them what they wanted okay here i've got something for dimitri to
50:54 discuss uh this was posted by purina on the forum the original article here is
50:58 from ars technica and this blew my mind
51:03 bing is bigger than you think says microsoft with a quarter of uk searches
51:08 whoa wow so saying a quarter of the searches are
51:12 from uk no no a quarter of the uk's searches
51:18 are using bing 10 in spain nineteen percent
51:22 in france nine percent in uh
51:25 what type of use though is it whatever that is what are they searching
51:29 they're they're just looking to buy to download chrome
51:36 that's probably legit man apparently taiwan is as high as 25
51:41 percent the u.s is 33. yeah
51:45 the u.s is the biggest percentage 16 percent canada but these are just
51:51 what these are views these are just figures being put out by marketing the
51:55 lowest percentage because they may be just using type to
51:58 search which uses bing as your as your
52:02 search result i love how they're saying bing is bigger than you think and then
52:05 there's literally multiple single-digit percentages
52:09 yeah that is bigger than i think to be fair yeah but like damn guys i i
52:14 honestly think like dimitri said that's just because they're searching for another browser to download
52:19 33 of all traffic in the usa is not searching for another browser to
52:22 download like i'm not even just trying to be devil's advocate that's not
52:26 there's no way so if they're using cortana yeah cortana uses bing so
52:30 anytime you type that in click enter it
52:33 uh so that's just a that's just a falsified not really falsified but it's
52:36 it's skewed in that making it look like but i'm not going to being i don't use
52:40 cortana to begin with but if i do a search or something down here i'm not
52:43 searching bing i'm just searching here usually for something on my system but
52:47 yeah but that doesn't work that way most of the time it just gives you driver
52:51 download from from online but it searches for the
52:54 internet as well simultaneously when you search for something local so that
52:58 really a good representation of being usage yeah that and i accidentally use
53:03 bing a lot accidentally yeah so you contribute to that how many thirteen
53:07 percent sixteen percent canada so i'll like i'll launch edge because i
53:11 haven't bothered to install another browser yet and i'll search for something i'll be like oh crap
53:15 and then i'll have to sir someone in chat just said alexa uses
53:19 bing and alexa's huge in the states
53:22 oh okay that would maybe make sense why it's 33 there because apparently
53:27 globally it's about nine percent
53:30 ouch and then 33 percent in the usa that's
53:33 huge
53:37 even like hong kong
53:41 that can't be right i'm pretty sure that's not right bing is for porn apparently
53:46 what yeah so a certain a certain friend of
53:49 ours in seattle would say that like i guess the algorithm for that is way
53:53 better oh a certain friend of ours in seattle
53:56 yeah well i'm not getting involved in that
54:00 thanks for tuning in to you guys um thanks again to jay and dimitri not
54:05 only for being here for scrapyard wars but also for being here on the show so
54:09 you can find jay over at uh i mean i know the answer is two cents
54:13 with a z not to be confused with the rapper yeah
54:17 and uh us at hardware conducts
54:25 yeah i'm just i'm leaving it because it's funny oh i'll do it there we go
54:30 oh we should have done a special intro with like you guys like on planes coming
54:33 here that would have been real
54:37 i cool share some footage they're like biplanes little scarves and goggles do you do
54:41 like a box
54:44 yeah are you putting that on your channel yeah if you want to see a travel vlog go
54:49 to dimitri's channel hardware connections
54:53 it's not my personal jam oh no no i'm collecting stuff still oh yeah that'll
54:58 be good though it'll be good
