0:00 and okay we're actually live this time
0:03 woo we got that going no problem no big deal not a thing yeah oh is a thing but
0:08 it's a it's an okay thing so we've got a great show for you guys today I'm here
0:16 Luke's here and uh John might be making
0:20 an appearance really for one specific topic oh do we have another legal topic
0:26 yeah oh I see you know those are actually some of the most interesting
0:29 ones for me he'll go off on some where he's like
0:34 I'll have some misconception or whatever and he'll go off he'll be like well
0:38 actually it works this way or in this
0:42 specific state or whatever it turns out that I got an education for a reason and
0:46 you probably should have gone to school and you know oh no I disagree with that
0:51 for your specific use case not for everybody really okay you know what's
0:54 funny is I actually had lunch with a local content producer yeah um earlier
1:01 this week like she she does like this
1:04 kind of vertically integrated content production for uh business professionals
1:10 okay that's like about stocks and like
1:13 business tips and stuff like that and apparently their program actually airs
1:18 uh among other things on one of Fox's things like a fox business thing okay
1:23 and then also on like Air Canada flights like very old media yeah you know like
1:28 relationships with you know know National Airlines and like Network TV
1:34 and um anyway so she wanted to have lunch I had no idea what she wanted uh
1:38 basically we did like a studio tour Taran was instructed by someone who
1:43 works with her doing some stuff over at
1:46 BCIT and the funny thing is Taran brought me into their studio so that I
1:51 could see how like a proper company does things and maybe we should have edit
1:55 Suites and maybe we should have this and maybe we should have that and it turned
2:00 out that in much the same way as us they learned as they went and there were a
2:04 lot of things they did better than us and there are a lot of things we do better than them so that was
2:08 enlightening and fun did they do edit Suites uh they do have edit Suites that
2:13 was what he wanted me to see what he didn't want me to see was all the other
2:16 kind of janky stuff like the fact that they literally have footage archived on
2:22 betas still whoa yeah but remember
2:26 broadcast TV that was a thing but you'd think you'd move it a lot more recently
2:31 where you would actually be submitting finished projects by mailing a beta mag
2:37 t or not a beta Max sorry it's like they were two different standards yeah like
2:42 the the the broadcast tape version and like the one that competed with VH
2:45 anyway the point the point is they still have like a sh and this is after they
2:50 cleaned up they have like a shelf of betas and I'm like You're great and uh I
2:55 was telling them about the Vault and stuff and they're like yeah that would be pretty cool and Tan's like yeah yeah
3:00 that's pretty useful maybe I don't have an editing Suite but I do have that
3:03 anyway the point is um she asked me to have lunch with her and um she she
3:09 didn't really tell me what it was about it turned out she wanted me to talk some
3:12 sense into her son okay who had this idea in his head that he was going to he
3:17 has two videos uploaded to YouTube and you know you probably get this all the
3:21 time too right people being like how do I be a successful YouTuber especially on
3:25 my not to plug it but especially on my stream yeah especially on your streams
3:28 cuz like you have which is hilarious because my stream sucks and like nobody
3:33 watches it and people ask me how to be a successful streamer and I'm like you think I know I'm glad you said that
3:38 because I was going to crap on your stream a little bit yeah no it's ter I was going to be like yeah like and your
3:42 stream's not even that big or anything
3:46 and charity like but you have a lot more success streaming than like you know how
3:51 it's like the first thousand subscribers on YouTube is the hardest right you've
3:55 passed that first handful of twitch subscribers never took a further step
4:00 and phoned it in the rest of the way but you clearly know enough to know
4:05 a thing that people would ask you about it anyway so so usually when people ask
4:10 that question it starts with yeah I just uploaded my first video or I just did my
4:13 first stream what would you recommend and the guy's like yeah so I want to do
4:18 like a um like a fitness clothing line
4:21 and I want to do like a fitness lifestyle Vlog and uh and way way to
4:27 compete against everyone yeah and it was
4:30 funny because his mom's giving me
4:33 additional details like yeah he wants me to pay for plane tickets so he can like
4:37 travel interesting places for his lifestyle Vlog of course and so I was
4:42 like yeah all right bro one I'm not
4:46 going to side with your mom and and just
4:49 say straight up stay in school could be a decent strategy because I didn't
4:55 nothing don't worry about it really
5:00 I mean if she's got plane tickets go all around the world okay all right I
5:04 thought you were going somewhere else with that no no totally
5:10 no anyway yeah I'm not siding with his
5:14 mom directly cuz like the whole school thing didn't work out very well for me
5:18 but I was also like on the other hand dude if you're going to succeed as a
5:23 social media influencer you won't succeed unless you have a the passion
5:28 and B the dve slor ethic to do it on the
5:32 side yeah so if you don't have anything better to do then stay in school but
5:37 don't lose track of that this should be your full-time side project yeah and
5:42 that was sort of the advice that I gave and the guy like he looked like I you
5:46 know punched him in the stomach well and I was bigger than I
5:50 am my biggest thing oh my goodness thank you Nick um my biggest thing is like the
5:56 the Nick as should be paying me for this yeah I've been drinking out of this
6:00 bottle on W show for years yeah you can
6:03 call out that person who uh you called out in the super fun yeah okay maybe
6:07 I'll do that I don't think he controls any budget spending there so it won't do
6:10 me any good but that's fine um hey Seuss
6:14 pay us the money for product placement okay see you can never get money for
6:18 product placement if you have product placement all over your stuff for free
6:22 anyway people are everyone looks at it and they just go why so why would I pay
6:27 for this you're do any ever done a success straight up product placement
6:31 deal I don't think so we tried to do
6:35 something with a smartwatch like with Pebble I think like a thousand years ago
6:39 and then Pebble wouldn't even send us review samples and then they got bought
6:43 yeah so that's about how successful we've been whatever yeah maybe they
6:47 should have done that that marketing spot anyway um okay so my thing
6:52 especially people are in his specific position where you're like he's uploaded
6:55 two videos yes my whole thing is like I don't care and you shouldn't
7:00 upload way more that's your big problem right now is you just need to do it a
7:04 whole bunch because there's going to be things that you're missing doing it
7:08 doing it learn from doing it yeah okay anyway like a you know all right let's
7:14 roll the intro
7:30 I don't know if the uh the L show announcement went up oh it did look at
7:34 that LTX I'm actually getting a lot more
7:39 confident that this is going to be a lot of fun yeah um the case toss was really
7:43 fun we put uh we put actually we put Colton's wife in charge of the event
7:47 yeah because previously we had Colton in
7:51 charge um because they had such a wonderful and well organized wedding and
7:56 then we found out that of course he had nothing to do with it so we hired his
8:00 wife and she is doing a bang up job so
8:03 far there is going to be a lot of fun stuff to do also fresh books yay woo
8:09 fresh books and EK water
8:13 blocks now hold on a second actually you know what I'll get into it in the
8:16 sponsor spot but that is not as crazy as it sounds yeah that whole thing that I
8:21 just put on the screen there
8:24 uh okay so first uh first topic you know
8:29 you know what let's jump right into the good stuff today the original article here is from
8:35 PC perspective and it was posted on the Forum by E kin and our buddy Mr the one
8:42 and only Ryan shastic got his hand on an AMD Vega
8:48 Frontier Edition and how he did this I
8:51 can tell you he bought it the same as we
8:55 had to ours is in the mail okay AMD is
9:00 not sampling Frontier Edition why might they not oh actually
9:06 you know what's really funny is I didn't even read the article purchased directly
9:11 from a reseller rather than being
9:14 sampled from AMD um so why didn't they
9:19 want to sample this to press well there are a number of uh potential
9:23 explanations for that can you think of any uh well they've been moving this way
9:27 for a while they okay that's true on the
9:30 professional cards the fire fire class cards and actually kind of both sides
9:35 have been moving this way a little bit inv Vidia has still been on their gaming
9:38 cards have been pushing really hard but AMD for a little while now has been
9:42 saying that they don't want to give out as many reviewer sample cards cuz they want to do more seeding into the
9:47 community and NVIDIA did not sample the Titan xpp yeah we have a video coming
9:52 featuring it soon but we borrowed it from somebody and they're trying to line
9:55 this card up more against those that's true okay my now I'm going to contribute
10:00 a potential reason uh potential reason number two yields are very low and they
10:05 don't have a lot of them yeah okay so that might be another one you got
10:08 another one um I doubt this is a thing MH but even
10:13 maybe everyone is buying every single card everywhere for AMD right now
10:17 because of mining okay okay so they like know that it will sell immediately so
10:21 price so rather than giving away literally money in the bank which when
10:26 you're AMD and like with their press right now
10:30 they might not even need reviews of this thing because everyone talking about AMD
10:34 stuff is super popular right now and very positive right now so it's going to
10:38 be popular and positive anyways and then everyone's buying it anyways because of
10:42 mining so they might not even need the marketing that they would get from
10:45 sending it okay which brings us then to reason number four which I actually
10:51 think might be the most likely Vega does
10:55 not look like it is going to set the world on on fire and AMD and for that
11:03 matter um I mean who hasn't done this
11:07 but AMD has demonstrated in the past a a
11:11 lower level of eagerness to seed
11:15 products that they don't think are going
11:18 to be as exciting in an attempt to if
11:23 not limit independent coverage of them
11:26 at least not spend money on getting
11:29 independent coverage of them so let's
11:33 give a a brief outline of what it is so the Vega Founders Edition is not
11:37 explicitly aimed at Gamers Frontier Edition sorry I did that
11:41 a lot on the announcement video like really you guys I actually might have
11:45 another Walkin the park coming on AMD's naming schemes cuz I'm getting real Fed
11:49 Up um so the Vega Frontier Edition like
11:52 almost sort of copy everyone else yeah not explicitly aimed at Gamers uh like
11:57 NVIDIA Titans we shouldn't expect the best performance per dollar okay uh
12:03 gaming results though and this is this is kind of uh this kind of throws up
12:08 some warning flags because with gaming results between a GTX 1070 and a
12:14 1080 priced at $1,000 for the 300 watt
12:19 version this tells us a couple things number one is that and that's the air
12:24 cooled one and $1,500 for the 375 watt
12:28 water cooled one that tells us we are pretty close to the the limit of what
12:33 this chip is capable of and there there
12:36 isn't a lot of magic sauce we did a video kind of covering this a little
12:41 while ago it was a holy Shiite episode
12:44 that we did um where we we like uh $6,000 graphics card we game on
12:51 it the amount of R&D that goes into
12:54 building a GPU is such that you should
12:58 be very surprised if there is a specific product
13:03 created for Quadro versus GeForce yeah
13:07 it's the same product it's the same silicon and in much the same way AMD's
13:12 Frontier Edition silicon will be the same silicon it give or take it might be
13:18 set up and utilized or whatever in different ways and the memory paired
13:21 with it might be different units here and the logic on board might be a little
13:26 bit different a tweak here and there but the amount of money involved in
13:30 building a GPU is incredible so if you
13:36 are expecting then the gaming versions of Vega to come in and crush
13:44 the GTX 10 1080 let alone the 1080 TI
13:49 you are setting yourself up for a major
13:53 disappointment and I'm sure that the AMD fans in twitch chat are freaking out
13:57 right now I'm specifically not looking at it because I really don't care I'm
14:01 laying down some reality here and that's the way it's going to be there is some
14:06 driver optimization to be done and AMD has been notorious for this the 5870 is
14:12 a perfect example of a product that
14:16 managed to get faster enough through driver releases that when they rebadged
14:21 it it ended up being it ended up not looking that bad when you looked at
14:25 launch reviews of the rebadged one versus launch reviews of the original
14:30 one but you can't expect more than it's
14:34 not going to double in speed driver optimizations will give you a little bit
14:37 but the Silicon is by and large not going to change yeah the clock speed is
14:42 by and large not going to change because it's a 300 watt part at $9.99 AMD's
14:48 closest thing to a competitor is probably going to be somewhere in the
14:52 neighborhood of a GTX 1070 to 1080 in terms of performance
14:57 so AMD may not have abandoned the high
15:00 endend but it does look like cuz they're not even talking about like a high end
15:06 Vega architecture product right now not at all they do seem to have abandoned
15:11 whether by choice or whether by strategy the enthusiest The Very extreme highend
15:18 I like using rise of the Tomb Raider as a standard Benchmark we use it in a lot
15:22 of different scales really well CPU and GPU and and multi GPU even and the Vega
15:29 Fe only managed to beat out the 1070 by
15:32 about a 4 to 5% lead which is at that price like really
15:39 not great so um it's not a gaming card no
15:43 it's not and we don't know anything about what pricing of Vega gaming like
15:47 what are they going to call it R9 Vega or something I don't I don't I don't remember what they're going to call it
15:52 but um a lot of times you can
15:56 get a rough idea of how it will perform in things that aren't gaming by using
16:01 games yes they're not unre they're not completely unrelated yeah but with that
16:06 said I believe uh is it fp16 something
16:10 there's there's some more um more professional grade features that make it
16:15 more comparable to quadros than a straight gaming card would that will
16:20 perform much better and may make Vega Frontier Edition very interesting for
16:24 workstation users because it will be similar in terms of performance to to a
16:29 p5000 Quadro but at about half the price
16:34 of that so at the very least if you if
16:37 you were wondering about buying like this crazy tiered AMD card for gaming
16:42 like maybe don't maybe that's what we know so far
16:45 or at the very least like wait until the gaming version of it arrives and we can
16:49 see kind of what we're what we're dealing with here even PC purse
16:52 conclusion is like title marked conclusion do do dot for now or
16:57 something like that so like yeah I don't think it's a huge
17:02 deal um yeah I mean unless you were
17:05 looking into this card at as a gamer's perspective but that's not what it is no
17:10 and it's not how it's priced yeah I am shocked that they had the guts to do a
17:14 water cooled card again like that looked
17:17 like a desperation tactic last time the fury X was a commercial failure utter
17:23 commercial failure and could you buy I
17:26 don't think you could buy a furyx air cooled though right no so this is a
17:29 versioning thing they have an aired
17:33 one Fury X again yeah yeah yeah
17:37 um yeah that's
17:40 fair yeah we've got people in the chat I'm finally I'm finally looking at the
17:44 chat I've decided to subject myself to that uh age core 123 is like AMD fans
17:51 equal NVIDIA fans and then there's some Emoji I can't see cuz it's too small and
17:55 yeah the recent War has I talked about this a little bit on the last show to
17:58 the recent War has been kind of interesting cuz everything that people are fighting about are these like
18:03 outside of the tears of what they're probably shopping for products it is
18:07 funny thing so weird uh the percentage
18:10 of people that are actually interested in buying a $1,000 graphics card cuz if
18:14 AMD can get this priced right then you know it yeah it'll Stomp all over a 1060
18:20 but if it consumes like 300 watts yeah I
18:24 don't know we'll you know what how about this why don't we cross that bridge when
18:29 we get to it in the me that's what we know for now also our Vega Frontier
18:34 Edition is coming so we're going to run all of our own numbers and make our own
18:37 video and you can probably save yourself the trouble of watching it by reading
18:41 shrout's review but am I allowed to say that yeah I mean who's going to who's
18:45 going to fire me
18:49 but lus you're fired damn
18:52 it crap I'll have to go to my other job
18:56 yeah I'll have to go work work for Floatplane club like
18:59 he yeah yeah would you hire me yeah yes
19:02 yeah yeah I would you'd be pretty expensive but all right I feel like that
19:06 investment would pay itself off so the original article for our next news story
19:09 is overclock 3d. net AMD announces their
19:14 new risen pro series of desktop CPUs and
19:18 I I got to confess I was a little bit
19:22 confused initially by the announcement
19:25 of ryzen pro because I kind of went well
19:29 what makes a processor Pro other than being a
19:36 processor nothing I get nothing for processor sorry I'm replying to
19:40 Something in the chat I hate you can you there I can I pretend that
19:45 that laugh was for my joke the best part too is you made a joke and I didn't
19:50 laugh because I was answering a question of someone going really Luke laughing
19:54 again everything's funny I'm just like you know what I enjoy things and I find
19:59 things funny maybe we do WAN Show at the
20:02 end of the day on Friday so we can kind of loosen up a little bit like hang out
20:07 for the first time this week because we almost never see each other this week
20:11 was pretty good this week was pretty good there was a few times yeah yeah da
20:16 zore HK yeah I just enjoy laughing at
20:20 things yeah you know what laughter is the best medicine I even got un you need
20:24 chemotherapy in which case chemotherapy is probably the best medicine might go
20:29 do yes so laughter is the best medicine
20:32 for if you're not actually sick if you're not actually sick okay anyway so
20:37 I was sitting there going what makes something a
20:41 processor and my got him jeez and my my initial answer
20:49 to that was the obvious one ECC support
20:52 okay yeah okay okay so you can use server memory that um has automatic
20:56 error Corrections that are going going on the fly in case there's like you know
21:00 a solar flare that flips a bit or whatever and you your your freaking you
21:04 know freen ass ZFS array gets corrupted
21:08 irreparably like that that's a prole feature but the funny thing about that
21:11 is that ryzen has ECC support they didn't fuse
21:17 it off the way that Intel does on all of their consumer chips even ones that cost
21:21 ,000 which I I think is unreasonable because they're worried about um they're
21:27 worried about cannibalizing their ENT prise chips they're
21:30 xeons um so what they do do though and
21:35 this didn't occur to me initially is they offer Windows 10 Enterprise
21:39 security support AES 128bit memory
21:43 encryption and a longer warranty with
21:46 that said a 36-month warranty is what they used to offer anyway but hey okay I
21:52 mean sure it's also a processor so whether it's AMD or Intel they're both
21:57 pretty good about their CPUs not just like randomly failing how many times
22:01 have you had a processor die I had an opteron 165 die I deserved
22:07 it was it your fault I had
22:11 it how do I put this um yes I'm hold yes
22:14 no I didn't like drop it on the floor but you like overvolted the tar off of
22:18 it just can you just relax okay yeah okay so I had it chilled to minus 25°
22:29 okay I'm not going to finish the story
22:33 okay all right all right so so it was not really the processor so I had that
22:38 coming I'm not I'm not yeah so zero so
22:41 far do you have anymore um no I'm also
22:44 at zero so like it's probably fine the
22:47 pro series will come okay now to be clear I have had like test bench chips
22:51 die was that the the old school Chiller
22:55 yes oh that's pretty cool that's the chiller we haven't thrown it away I might resurrect it someday just for LS
23:00 you should do that as a video it would be a great actually it would be a great video that would be really fun get Alex
23:03 to help you with it and like modernize it a little bit get it in a cooler box
23:07 than just Proto case to do something up for us nice I like this project that
23:11 would actually be really sick and then we could use it like on our test benches and stuff that would be really sick we'd
23:15 have to do up a new block for it because the block I used to use for it was a
23:18 dangered end TDX and that was out of pure cheapness maybe you can follow up
23:22 the like terrible heat sink guides with like a we professionally designed our
23:27 own heat sink Terri Chiller
23:31 guide I I would love personally I would love watching that that would be great
23:36 um so I was actually using highly not recommended so with people are asking
23:40 for the story but keep going with antifreeze um and water as coolant
23:45 because once you're going down to no no sorry that's not what you use you use a
23:49 windshield deicer so that's actually like an alcohol based coolant so I was
23:54 using that at like sub 25
23:59 actually a little more than that on the actual cools about sub35 I was using
24:03 that in an acrylic block oh so you
24:07 leaked onto it no no I didn't I didn't no that survived no no I'm just saying
24:10 that that block still exists we still have it but it is so full of micro
24:15 Cracks around the fittings that it is terrifying so I was using it out of
24:19 cheapness because I just assumed it would have cracked at that point whatever block I used in this
24:24 contraption had to have like industrial glue put on it so that could put all of
24:29 my like neoprene insulation and crap all over it and um so it was basically a
24:34 write off and that was at a time that so A well you're supposed to use an all
24:38 metal block yeah preferably all the same metal yeah um so that the expansion and
24:42 contraction isn't of different Metals yeah um so preferably you're supposed to
24:46 do that but those back then I would have been buying like a water cool I think it
24:51 was called the heat killer 3.0 or something like that or whatever it would have been at the time those were 150
24:56 bucks all just silver not you could get silver ones but even the copper ones
25:01 were like they were like 80 or 90 or something stupid like that so um so I
25:06 was using like a crazy dumb thing anyway if we if we Ed the Partnerships that I
25:10 now have with like protoc case to do like a really nice enclosure for it and
25:15 like get EK to build us something like custom or something for it oh that would
25:19 be sick that would be a sick project and something that we could like pull out
25:22 with pride on the test bench when we want like yeah you know you know what
25:26 cuz we have more resources now we have more writers
25:31 us when it was just you and me we did some factory tours yes we did Omron we
25:36 did Sennheiser we did uh I feel like
25:39 there was another one I'm Miss uh yeah we did Cherry Cherry How Could You Forget Cherry like my yeah that was
25:45 where we popped our factory tour Cherry yeah it was it was great I think I think
25:49 I missed it because Sennheiser and Cherry were on the same trip they were
25:53 um but now going through like maybe
25:57 spending a couple days there mhm and like going through each station through
26:02 like the design process of a water block
26:05 go through like the guy that cads out the original files you know what we we
26:10 tried to do EK oh we actually were
26:14 thinking about doing it on the same trip as cherry and Sennheiser oh we couldn't
26:18 get it worked out because the budget required for all the travel and because
26:23 we do charge for those that is a sponsored type of project for us um they
26:29 couldn't make that work at the time but now that they're going a little bit more
26:33 mainstream and actually that might work we'll talk a little bit more about that
26:36 when we do our ad spot for w show today that's ekk spot uh maybe we could make
26:41 it work cuz I would love to see their would super cool their shop is sick yeah
26:46 and like if you can actually see like what goes into designing and building a
26:50 product and EK actually manufactures everything so they're not like all water
26:56 cooling companies that are designing somewhere and then Outsourcing to China
27:00 um EK actually owns their own manufacturing so it would be pretty cool
27:05 to see that that would be pretty sick um okay what else what else do we got okay
27:09 ryzen Pro um right we were talking about
27:13 that okay ryen Pro offers yet another advantage over Intel's I3 series
27:17 especially because those lack uh Intel V
27:20 Pro so um basically AMD is putting more
27:24 pressure on Intel and this time it's on the like professional and business
27:28 feature side which is definitely something that I can appreciate because
27:31 I mean you were talking about this the other day security and encryption is
27:36 going to become one of those things where like we might be sitting in a golden age of Hardware right now where
27:43 manufacturers are waking up to the need for encryption on their devices Apple
27:47 has to a great extent yeah and governments haven't outlawed it yet yeah
27:53 so think about this like 10 years from
27:57 now getting your hands on a ryzen pro
28:01 might be like a thing yeah for your like encrypted computer if you want encrypted
28:05 memory yeah think about that for a minute like
28:09 I'm not trying to go all tinfoil hat but it's no secret that governments around
28:13 the world articles in this W show that we haven't talked about yet that are
28:16 exactly in line with this yeah it's going to be uh it's going to be an
28:20 interesting time um AMD accidentally
28:25 reveals ryen 3 details w a is this like
28:28 a quote unquote accidentally or is this legitimately accidentally I can never
28:32 tell with those guys to be honest with you sometimes I suspect that it's quote
28:35 unquote accidentally other times I believe them that it's not accident I
28:39 don't know um anyway originally posted by Ryan Smith over at unon Tech well gee
28:45 if you were paying close attention to this morning's announcement of AMD's new ryzen Pro skes then you likely noticed
28:50 something interesting the non-x pro chips all have the same performance
28:54 specifications as their standard consumer counterparts specifically both
28:57 of the non X pro SKS with existing ryzen 5 and 7 counterparts have the same core
29:00 counts clock speeds and ttps as for the final two ryzen Pro 3 SKS well they
29:04 inadvertently showed their hand when it comes to the forthcoming ryzen
29:08 3 okay so I mean we are making some
29:12 assumptions here but it looks like uh
29:15 they've inadvertently revealed the ryzen 3 1300 and 1200 specs so the ryzen 3
29:21 looks like it'll be a quad core CPU without smt so that's four threads
29:27 rather than eight which in my opinion is what entrylevel
29:31 chips should have been at this point for a few years now uh that's give me one
29:37 quick second sorry you're good everything's fine don't worry about it
29:40 everything's okay is everything okay yeah it is does everything seem okay to you guys
29:47 tell you what why don't we talk about ryzen 3 later why don't I just do the
29:50 sponsor spots so uh boom fresh books uh
29:55 oh right I have I have notes I always go off script and I always get in trouble
30:00 so freshbooks is the super simpl to use invoicing tool that actually does a lot
30:06 more than just help you create and send slick looking invoices you can keep
30:11 track of your time with their time sheet function manage your expenses and keep
30:16 track of who owes you money even going as far as to be able to tell you once
30:22 your client has looked at your invoice for the first time what's really neat is
30:26 their mobile app has all the function ality of the desktop version so you can
30:30 take fresh books with you wherever you
30:33 go and if you have any questions about fresh books or how to use it you can
30:36 reach out to their support staff where you literally call them and someone like
30:41 a person picks up the phone is like hello no one is available to take your
30:46 call please leave it no I'm just kidding not that other part they pick up the phone and they say hello and you can
30:50 actually talk to them no escalations phone trees return calls just answers so
30:55 visit freshbooks.com when if you're a small business owner uh or
31:00 you or a freelancer and you want to start spending your time working instead
31:07 of spending your time working out how to use complicated accounting software also
31:12 fresh books is our title sponsor for
31:15 LTX yeah lonus tech expo 2017 where you
31:20 can see this oh I wasn't going to acknowledge it
31:24 everyone's been talking about it in the chat and I was just going to completely IGN also just
31:28 you are also here
31:32 oh yeah fine we'll acknowledge it so
31:35 that'll be there but I'm not going to tell you any more about it oh other than
31:40 that uh that might be a lonus tech tips logo
31:44 there yeah that's all we'll say that's all we'll say about it so that'll be
31:48 there um we're probably hopefully going to have okay I'm kind of Tiff my hand a
31:53 little bit here but LTX is going to be freaking sick um we're going to have 15K
31:58 gaming there the cas TOS k i I don't know uh
32:03 it's on Floatplane right now yeah it's ch FL right now yeah it's it's not on
32:07 channel super on YouTube but we did like a a case toss to so show what it might
32:11 be like while you're at LTX there actually tons of fun yep um there's
32:15 going to be other examples of Booth there's going to be other types of
32:18 booths like guess how many CPUs are in a jar kind of like the old Jelly Bean
32:22 thing rocket league in real life uh video editing tips from Taran we're
32:26 literally going to take his Workstation and like transplant it over there and
32:31 just let him keep working yep and he'll be like talking to people about what
32:34 he's doing so it's July 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and you can get your
32:38 ticket through the Forum or at the link in the video description which I'm going
32:42 to go ahead and drop in the twitch chat right now Twitch Plays Pokemon was like
32:46 are we just skipping 8K yes
32:49 yes uh okay other sponsor EK water
32:53 blocks heck yeah so this my friends is
32:57 ek's foray into the mainstream but
33:01 unlike their previous Predator lineup
33:04 of thank you trying to make water
33:07 cooling more mainstream like trying to be more like an AIO but better like
33:12 expandable this one is much much less
33:17 expensive so what they've done and this sounds crazy on first glance but we
33:21 actually have a review which by the way we completed it's not uploaded yet but
33:26 we completed we evaluated this thing before we did any sponsor spots for it
33:29 we have a review coming um and it's
33:33 pretty positive uh this thing is really good by making all the blocks out of
33:38 aluminum instead of copper they have lowered the cost they have lowered the
33:44 Machining time which inherently lowers the cost they have retained the
33:49 expandability and they have retained
33:53 most of the performance of a full Copper Custom Loop the drawback is that you
33:59 can't mix ek's a series products with
34:02 their normal products because there would be a risk of galvanic corrosion I
34:06 don't know why Siri started taking off there but the point is the a120 the a240
34:13 and the a240g especially personally I don't
34:18 think this is in my uh I don't think this is in my sponsor notes but
34:23 especially the a240 and the a240g look
34:26 like a fantastic value for custom liquid cooling is it
34:30 the G does that mean it includes like graphics card it does it includes a 1060
34:35 to Titan XP Founders Edition compatible
34:39 block cool so looks pretty darn good and
34:42 unlike other aios it includes actual fittings it includes tubing that you can
34:47 change up for something else it includes vardar fans oh so very good fans and it
34:53 includes um a like like a custom grade pump and then
34:59 tube Reservoir combo nice yeah that's cool so looking looking pretty good so
35:03 you can check that out over at Genie g.
35:07 usek fluid gaming I'll drop that in the twitch chat as
35:12 well okay all right yeah I know I I I
35:15 got the notification from Tyler that he was clearing the fridge out in 15
35:20 minutes and I got it 21 minutes ago oh
35:23 and he was going to throw away your food which I like don't even normally store
35:27 food here cuz I just have like soil in which you don't throw out which I have
35:30 for like breakfast and stuff but there's I had a bunch of food here that my
35:34 girlfriend cooked and she's the least domestic person ever and doesn't cook
35:38 but she's very excited about this stuff right now so if it all got thrown out
35:42 that would have been a very bad um right
35:45 yeah that would have been bad bad scene so I solved that good everything's fine
35:49 so you solved that by fishing it out of the garbage can putting it back in the
35:52 container and not telling her I think I I think in in Tyler's
35:58 regular style he said 15 minutes and it's probably like half an hour okay so
36:02 it just wasn't done yet okay uh we've got people asking why I'm using an
36:06 iPhone to be clear what I mean by that is he gave people a grace period not
36:09 that he's delayed uh I'm using an iPhone because I actually don't really care
36:14 right now um between Android and iOS and
36:18 I had to give the shooters my S8 which I
36:22 was using as my daily driver um to do
36:25 comparative b-roll against the OnePlus 5
36:28 and then I I just haven't gotten around to putting my sim back in the S8 I do intend to go back to the S8 how do you
36:33 feel about the notifications they're both awful in different ways okay cuz
36:37 that was like one thing that I hated about iOS when I used it for a fairly
36:41 short period of time was the notifications yeah um the problem is that Samsung in the I think it was the
36:45 marshmallow update nou nou update so
36:49 Samsung um even when you set your privacy settings people in the
36:55 chat uh even when you set your privacy settings to show your notifications on
37:01 your lock screen before you log in they changed it so that Gmail
37:06 notifications don't show
37:09 anymore so I actually have to unlock the phone like I can see I have Gmail
37:14 notifications but I can't see what they are okay yeah well you should have your
37:18 phone encrypted so it doesn't show what they are
37:21 anyways no I think yeah no it's encrypted but you should you should make
37:25 it so that it doesn't show anyway yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that was like in the security should should
37:29 should should should should but the point is I get too many notifications
37:33 for that to be perfectly Frank with you if certain emails come through you can
37:37 get super screwed yeah I guess that's possible
37:41 just show the subject subject line and like maybe the first few words but
37:44 there's not much there's some emails that can you can get screwed for I don't
37:48 get any like two Factor emails though like
37:51 that cuz I think that's the kind you're thinking of mostly yeah no yeah Okay no
37:56 Okay um so so yeah it it's really frustrating and uh yeah so anyway I just
38:01 haven't put my sim back in the S8 yet and I actually own two SmartWatches they
38:06 both sit on my bedside table on their Chargers and whichever phone I happen to
38:10 be using I just grab either an Android Wear or an Apple Watch wow
38:18 yep cuz I just don't care anymore at
38:23 this point I I am actually pretty psyched for the you know what here let's
38:27 blow through ryzen 3 oh that's the opposite of first world problems that's
38:30 just like first world excess sorry I have a matching phone for
38:35 I have a matching watch for my phone it's perfect all the time you know what
38:39 it's not that different from people who have watches for their outfits in fact
38:43 it's very different I only need two watches more practical that is not more
38:47 practical no your way oh oh I see I was
38:50 I was admitting a minor amount of defeat yeah um so anyway AMD accidentally
38:56 reveals Ryon 3 details it's quad core without smt it'll use the same dies
39:00 ryzen 5 and Ry 7 oh that's surprising actually luk don't get paid enough even
39:03 if I did I wouldn't do that four cores
39:06 distributed over two CCX but we saw that that wasn't a huge deal with the lower
39:10 end ryzen 5S same cash structure as ryzen 5400 blah blah blah blah blah blah
39:15 TDP will still this be the same 65 watt but as we know the TDP ratings for CPUs
39:20 like Intel rates all of their HDT chips
39:25 like 130 Watts y clearly the ones with
39:28 twice as many cores clearly consume more power yeah clearly so there's that just
39:34 like blanket statement whole areas um yeah I had wanted to chat about oh yeah
39:38 you know what well do you want to do this first or that why don't we do that
39:42 let's do that okay okay I realized what we're saying right now is very cryptic
39:46 but this is important if you are not
39:49 already on Floatplane this is the week well other than
39:53 like a scrap scrapyard Wars because unlike scrapyard Wars where we have one
39:58 piece of content that like half of our
40:02 community cannot wait to watch we have
40:06 four pieces of content right now that are behind the Early Access wall on
40:11 Floatplane that are freaking unreal but
40:15 they'll all be coming uh sometime in the next week so if you watched all of them
40:18 and I don't normally watch our videos even that
40:21 often well okay cuz I hear about everything that's going on and I'll like
40:26 talk to the writer that's working on it and know their conclusions and stuff wow
40:30 dick I'm just saying okay so LT video
40:35 exposing dead Mouse's Studio spoiler he's a huge geek this isn't even an LTT
40:41 video but do cell phones actually cause cancer it was an entertaining Tech to
40:45 make you probably know the answer I kind of hope but like it's it's a good thing
40:49 to send to people not everybody does or we wouldn't have made the video Fair um
40:53 LTT unboxing a quantum computer that was
40:57 very cool um that was awesome so was the
41:01 deadmouse one those were both really awesome LT the most important iPad video
41:05 in years which actually got Lost in Translation it's supposed to be the most important iPad in years but that's okay
41:10 we'll figure that out also there's a giraffe in the video which is why it
41:14 says gone wild see we're all about clickbait that's true yeah uh LT the
41:19 ultimate RGB build guide yes build
41:23 guides are back in a real way just to okay okay this one I'll
41:29 uh class distinction didn't know you could do that I'm sorry I didn't even
41:33 know you could do itst preview check out this intro this is very cool
41:38 yeah the best part is can you identify all the people I can tell who some of
41:42 them are except for when they're running by like I know yeah that was very
41:46 obvious yeah I can identify everyone except for
41:51 when they're all running by all at once anyway then it gets messy that's a great
41:54 video LTT can you plastic dip a whole PC
41:58 inside and out LTT unboxing Canada's
42:02 biggest supercomputer um yeah LTT can you plasty
42:07 dip a whole PC is actually really funny yeah so next week is going to be
42:12 ridiculous because many of these projects were things that we've been
42:16 working on for weeks and or months and
42:19 they just all kind of came together at the same time in fact if I was like in
42:24 charge of programming here I might not necessarily like I might have tried to
42:28 find other sort of I don't want to say crappier stuff
42:33 but yeah less expensive content to
42:37 produce to to like space things out a
42:40 little bit um but if you guys want to join the Floatplane Club um basically
42:47 the way to do it you got the link you post it in the chat do you yeah okay
42:50 good LTT Bots got that now's kind of the time to do it and uh yeah it's going to
42:56 be it's going to be a good time it's going to be a good time over on Floatplane right now if you want to binge
43:00 watch all that stuff you're going to be you're going to like it um okay so Apple moving on to news
43:08 this was posted by WM gr on the Forum and the original article is from n
43:13 Gadget it looks like
43:17 Vivo Vivo oh that's what happened there what
43:22 beats Apple to an underd display
43:25 fingerprint scanner but they say that uh the technology
43:30 still has a way to go I mean that's how it sometimes is where people are like
43:35 yeah apple never invented anything whereas a lot of the time Apple doesn't
43:39 invent it they just kind of come along and use it when when it's actually
43:43 mature enough yeah to be clear it's a it's a uh Qualcomm technology yeah um so
43:50 this is an ultra Sonic fingerprint solution offering integration beneath
43:55 OLED displays up to 1 2 mm thick like that's pretty thick a fair amount for an
44:00 OLED um as well as aluminum even that's
44:04 freaking cool that's pretty like if the whole phone imagine this if you could
44:08 have like if you could have like uh just to unlock your phone is like easy like
44:13 it's just one and then to access your encrypted folder you have to put like
44:18 all five fingers on it or you have to like can you imagine that would be
44:21 pretty cool so if you had like you could have like the the fingerprint down here
44:25 and then like all four fingers on the back have to engage yes that' be pretty
44:29 neat I would love that it have to be really accurate for that first gen
44:32 stuff's not going to have that but that's the kind of stuff I'd love to see
44:36 in the future um apparently it works even when the device is immersed in
44:40 water which is a huge problem with existing fingerprint sensors and it
44:45 tolerates to be fair not not because you're like swimming with your phone all the time but like if it's raining or
44:50 something like that if it's a little bit wet it can be really annoying or like if you sweat as much as I do I mean like
44:56 sports not not just in like I'm not I'm not sweaty right now I mean I touched
45:00 your shirt so I could be as sweaty as you
45:03 know yeah he's good he's scientific tests very scientific
45:09 test oh that that was really awkward I
45:13 have problems with fingerprint scanners though um because I have as you know
45:17 annoyingly sweaty hands you're not nearly as bad as when I met you yeah
45:21 when I met you it was like fullon hyperhydrosis
45:25 like it has gotten a little bit better um I would go out of my way to like not
45:32 touch him like when I shook hands at his interview I was just like can I hire
45:36 this guy I also used to like like if I went on a let's get personal here for a
45:39 second if I went on a date with someone I would like avoid that you would avoid
45:44 hand holding so you would just straight grab her by the I'd do like ARM over
45:50 or I don't go no I don't go Trump Style with that but I'd try to go like ARM
45:54 over shoulders or like like something I would even do the like joking ARM in ARM
45:59 we're being funny old school thing wow that's cringe dude well I would do it as
46:03 a joke to be clear but I would do that for like a couple seconds to try to show
46:07 like I'm not being standoffish but also I'm going to do this as a joke and then
46:11 stop because I don't want to hold your hand wow because I was like yeah it's
46:16 pretty gnarly it's it's it's mostly fine now okay um yeah how's it going so
46:23 anyway vivo's xplay 6 demonstrated the technology the demo started off with a
46:28 fingerprint registration process that requested blah blah blah etc etc then
46:32 the user would be able to unlock the phone by touching the spot where they did the setup process or somewhere else
46:40 um so fingerprint recognition speed in this implementation is slower than the
46:44 near instantaneous unlock we expect from normal fingerprint scanners about a
46:48 second between the first touch and entering the home screen but they said
46:52 the same Tech could be applied across the entire screen oh wait no hold on F
46:56 oh yeah so they touched a different area just above the old fingerprint button um
47:00 so instead they might eventually cover just the bottom half of the screen
47:03 rather than the whole screen um to save cost and yeah same Tex shown on the back
47:09 of the phone's body allowing it to be unlocked even when placed in water
47:12 pretty cool yeah I really like like I
47:16 very much like the fingerprint unlock on the back of the pixel I'm a huge fan of
47:21 that um are we going into this yeah I
47:25 don't know should we or is it just boring I want to talk about ethereum
47:29 mining this is a really quick one but this was uh posted on futurism and the
47:34 original post on the Forum was Ginger
47:38 137 and the headline kind of says it all there's not not a whole lot more to say
47:43 at this point ethereum could be using more than an entire country's worth of
47:47 electricity now of course we don't mean like China or the us or whatever um oh
47:53 hi guys but um I think the the country that
47:58 we were talking about was oh a small country Cyprus um so a
48:04 bit more than what consumed by the island of Cypress so 4.2 terawatt
48:11 hours wow that's pretty
48:16 insane so one major reason for this is the power hungry graphics cards that are
48:20 involved but this might not be the case for long ethereum has plans to move away
48:24 from its existing energy intensive
48:28 algorithms so there you go I wonder what that means for people's Hardware if it's
48:32 just an algorithm thing like will that rebalance what is better at it it means
48:37 a lot of cheap 580s on the uh on
48:41 eBay hopefully because honestly I was talking to someone the other day buying
48:45 a computer right now kind of sucks holy crap it's a great time to buy a CPU yeah
48:51 but okay but on the counterargument and people are going to hate me for this but
48:56 it's kind of rough to get into PC gaming
48:59 right now and I actually see a lot of people going like okay well the graphics
49:04 card that I want is going to cost more than the freaking console yep and like
49:09 it's hard to justify yep it's genuinely
49:12 a little bit hard to justify it's cuz the graphics cards are so expensive and
49:15 if I'm AMD I certainly want to sell graphics cards for as much as I can of
49:20 course why not or NVIDIA for that matter although NVIDIA has been a little less
49:24 popular on the whole ethereum mining side of things and like seen some stuff
49:27 where people are trying to snipe out stores because certain stores aren't
49:31 increasing their prices because they're just trying to go for MSRP and RAM too
49:34 there's a worldwide Dam shortage that's expected to last well into next year
49:38 it's great for companies like Corsair cuz it's hilarious like RAM makers like
49:43 Corsair and Kingston where they they buy modules and then sell them uh it's great
49:49 for them because as much as it's frustrating for them to not be able to
49:53 get as much allocation as they'd like to sell they're margin on a product like
49:58 that is kind of set cuz there's a lot of competitors out there and everybody's
50:02 kind of in that 7 to 12% range pretty much give or take but even though
50:07 they're selling less what they do sell
50:11 hits their um hits their revenue numbers a lot harder so they're doing more
50:16 revenue and making 10% let's say on a $
50:21 transaction versus making 10% on a $100
50:24 transaction having to do all the same fixed cost things so thep the processing
50:31 fee Transportation marketing uh
50:34 packaging yeah hey that's great for them
50:39 um speaking of the memory business rip
50:43 Lexar memory cards this was posted by shutter Boy on The Forum the original
50:48 article here is from petapixel but crucial I don't know if
50:53 you guys know this but uh Micron parent
50:56 company of crucial and Lexar um Micron just kind of went yeah
51:02 you know what um compared to the
51:06 lucrative business of selling flash to companies like Amazon and
51:11 Google um selling like SD cards is a
51:16 Fool's errand due to those low margins and low volumes all that packaging and
51:20 all that marketing involved in what this tiny transaction this is stupid so
51:25 they're just like forget it and they are shutting down their removable storage
51:30 retail business I hope they don't shut down crucial because their Facebook page
51:35 is hilarious other products that are being killed off include USB flash
51:39 drives memory card readers and storage drives which honestly I'm kind of not
51:43 stoked on because the only prograde card
51:46 readers that we could find are those Lexar ones that we're using our sco up a
51:51 few I'm not even kidding we we might even do that although I did run into
51:55 someone at PEX that's making something that looks really Pro and that has SSD
52:00 and red Meg versions as well they're like rack mount and you can and their
52:04 modular so I'll look into those they run off Thunderbolt too and our ingest
52:08 stations are Thunderbolt so we'll see yeah but if that doesn't pan out or if
52:12 that product sucks Lexar is all I kind of got um but
52:17 the decision was made as part of the company's ongoing efforts to focus on
52:20 its increasing opportunities in higher value markets and
52:24 channels so basically like Lexar
52:27 products suck it uh they are exploring opportunities
52:32 to sell all or part of the Lexar business but what that means is
52:36 basically that Lexar won't be Lexar yeah in much the same way that the sharp is
52:41 trying to get their brand back in North America because they're actually suing
52:45 over high sense I believe it's high sense I'm going to double check before I
52:49 like disar a brand um sharp high sense
52:55 lawsuit I think yeah yeah sharp saying
52:58 that high sense's shoddily manufactured
53:01 TVs are hurting their brand image what even though they were the ones who sold
53:05 the business unit to high sense they sold it can they do anything about that
53:09 I don't know but it explains you know how we go to CES and we're like what the
53:14 heck is high sense yeah why are they even here yeah now I finally get it
53:20 yes um what else what else we got for this week there's not a ton there 's
53:26 that weird Canada thing which might affect other people so I don't know we
53:30 might want to talk about that there's the tech PowerUp thing I'm wondering on
53:33 your opinion on that actually okay I'm sorry I really haven't looked into this
53:37 oh and there's um it's there's not a ton to look into it you can look into it
53:41 really quick so um should I start on it
53:44 sure having not read it uh was posted on the Forum by eyes can't see over 24 FPS
53:49 and that was the only way we were going to get me to say those words Al together
53:53 in that order very very funny you know that's going to get you gigantic troll
53:58 like really tightly clipped I know um and the original article here is from
54:02 delited tech.com which I've actually never heard of what's delited tech.com I
54:08 don't know wow this looks like a very
54:11 small site and I'm I'm not hating or
54:15 anything um but basically the
54:19 controversy is over a tech
54:22 PowerUp article that appeared to be an article anyway that was a comparison
54:27 between AMD's radon rx560 and NVIDIA's GTX 1050 but that was actually an AMD ad
54:34 the article reads like a review with no disclaimers within the article itself
54:38 that it comes from AMD or is sponsored by AMD the only ad markers on the page
54:43 were advertorial by AMD off to the side on the top right and the author being
54:48 named advertorial the article was posted
54:52 directly in the review section of the site our Forum members apparently
54:59 disagree as to whether or not AMD
55:02 crossed the line I don't know why it wasn't linked but here's the actual
55:07 thing if you want go okay so let's pull let's pull up the article here this does
55:12 look like an article so they're sponsored right there yeah advertorial
55:18 by AMD okay this might be uh looks like it's been updated a little bit this
55:22 might be
55:25 updated huh when I first saw this I I didn't check
55:29 for each individual location but when I first saw this I was not oh it says
55:33 sponsored right there content by MD okay okay it looks like a few things have
55:37 been added
55:44 huh interesting so did they run their own
55:48 marks current in its current state what do you what do you think about the
55:52 transparency okay so and it's current
55:59 State the deled tech site doesn't seem to have
56:02 huh oh I think there's a picture on there
56:08 actually so yeah advertorial by AMD
56:11 above the here let's go uh let's go over
56:14 to deleted tech for a second here and show what it used to look like you just move to my oh no mine's screwed up yeah
56:19 yours is screwed up right now sorry so you're going to want to this one yeah
56:23 yeah okay so here's what it used to look
56:27 like the uh the writer was advertorial
56:31 it didn't say sponsored under the 560 logo say sponsored under the logo here
56:36 and it said introduction as though it was an introduction to something yeah
56:41 but it did say avoral by MD over on the right so it wasn't like impossible to
56:45 figure out what it was but I think the word
56:48 advertorial is um a little misleading
56:53 because in my mind an advertorial okay
56:56 so it's like edutainment right yeah it's inherently
57:00 educational entertaining SS advert and tutorial and it's not a tutorial this
57:05 isn't a tutorial at all here let's read it we'll read it together it's not like
57:08 how to use AMD graphics cards advertorial by AMD last year AMD
57:13 introduced the first Polaris generation of gpus with it AMD delivered many new
57:16 features along with great performance in the latest games and greatly improved
57:19 efficiency like that is not a
57:23 tutorial um be it orts or AA titles best
57:26 value for the money at around €100 consistently smooth animation in popular
57:30 games at 1080 avoids performance pit Falls caused by running out of video
57:34 memory due to 4 gig models being available okay none of that's a tutorial
57:38 for only around €100 the radon rx560 outperforms the competition at this
57:43 price point while showing the significant difference of upgrading from a previous generation is this their own
57:47 benchmarks so that's honestly where
57:50 that's that's the one that I don't like um radon chill hold on hold on radon
57:54 chill saves power during games it does this in these kinds of titles there is
57:58 no tutorial oh editorial not tutorial
58:05 editorial is it
58:11 interesting good call twitch chat okay I
58:14 did not know that I always thought that an advertorial was an ad that was like
58:19 how to use it I thought it was is what I
58:22 think an advertorial should be by the
58:25 way because I have no problem with that in fact that's something that I've been
58:30 doing for years is like here's how to
58:34 water cool your computer brought to you by some parts that you can use to do
58:38 that but but all of these things I'm saying still apply to other stuff an
58:43 advertorial the like proper definition is a newspaper or Magazine advertisement
58:48 don't worry too much about that giving information about a product in the style
58:52 of an editorial or objective journalistic article
58:56 okay so that's actually fairly transparent okay all right fine I don't
59:01 like yeah so there's a couple things here
59:06 number one is I think they're going to need to change says testing done by AMD
59:10 in the last paragraph yeah I think it should say that on the chart I think the
59:15 testing shouldn't be done by AMD for one thing um so even when we do so we've
59:20 actually done a um here the closest
59:24 thing that we've done was uh the te okay
59:28 guys the testing done by AMD should be on the chart here this is the closest
59:33 thing we've done actually with AMD oh unskippable ads we have unskippable ads
59:39 they enable after a while so they're on our um our back catalog oh do we even do
59:45 that no it's something that our MCN does automatically oh yeah okay can you build
59:51 a 4K gaming PC for under $1,000 oh for some reason we're not
59:56 looking at the beginning of it so we say something something something something
60:00 something AMD challenged us to do this
60:03 blah blah blah hold on here we go is this the sponsored by AMD call out no I
60:09 don't think so um but this was uh this
60:12 was actually before some of those guidelines came into place and we uh let
60:18 me see where else anyway I say it either two or three times in the video
60:23 verbally um when we get to the benchmarks because AMD's argument to us
60:29 to for doing this piece was that you can
60:33 play popular Esports titles at 60 FPS on
60:37 their affordable for at 4k on their
60:40 affordable all AMD machine we ran these
60:43 benchmarks ourselves and we told them we're not
60:48 doing this video unless we can validate this ourselves yeah and that would have
60:52 meant not taking the budget that happened
60:57 letting AMD run their own
61:01 benchmarks yes I think strictly speaking
61:04 that does make it exactly as much of an
61:07 advertorial then as just an opinion but
61:11 an editorial again and maybe you can hear want to be my definition man for a
61:16 second here editorial my understanding
61:20 means opinion and facts graphs and
61:24 charts are not not opinions a newspaper
61:28 article written by or on behalf of an editor that gives an opinion on a
61:32 topical issue so really that's where the line
61:37 gets crossed for me because the disclosure is not quite good enough uh
61:42 it should be in the title uh sponsored should be in the actual title
61:47 of the article uh according to like FTC guidelines like that actually needs to
61:51 get done um all of this stuff is quite a bit
61:55 better Now adoral by AMD but in my
62:00 opinion these graphs should have either
62:03 been run by tech power up or they shouldn't be here and it should just be
62:07 an opinion at the very least in my opinion it needs to be very clear on the
62:11 graphs that these are graphs from the company and then personally that would
62:15 just make me not care and I'd move on people are saying the graphs serve as
62:18 evidence for the opinion of the author but that's exactly it then it isn't an
62:22 editorial then it's not an opinion you can't say in my opinion this graphics
62:27 card runs faster when you actually have fact I mean it's the whole blurry line
62:31 between facts and opinion these days but
62:35 once it's been quantitatively measured in a way that is reproducible
62:40 and defensible and adheres to the
62:45 scientific method once it's Quantified
62:48 it isn't an opinion anymore and a graph
62:52 inherently suggests that it has been
62:57 Quantified people are saying but AMD is the author that's fine but it still
63:01 isn't an editorial and therefore isn't an
63:06 advertorial so yeah
63:11 um huh okay I mean as long as it's
63:15 disclosed it's sort of up to them and their relationship with their viewers uh
63:20 for our part we do do sponsored content we've done sponsored content for years
63:25 we say when it sponsored
63:28 content I would love to say that we've never used anyone's numbers we've shown
63:34 slides with a manufacturer's numbers generally speaking that would be before
63:38 we get an opportunity to show our own numbers like at a launch event or when
63:41 it's being first unveiled at CES for example yeah um but then it's usually
63:45 clearly stated that that's their numbers but it's clearly stated that it is someone else's numbers not quite but
63:50 probably almost every time that I've done that I've been like but we'll have
63:53 to see when we can get it back into the office for testing of our own I mean
63:57 with over 3,000 videos uploaded I don't want to say we've never shown anybody
64:00 else's numbers but generally speaking
64:03 that's where we draw our line clear disclosure and running our own
64:06 validation against the claims of the manufacturer yeah in this case I can't
64:10 speak to their due diligence uh behind the scenes except to say that this graph
64:16 doesn't look like it was produced by them it looks like it was produced by AMD for all I know they ran the
64:21 numbers but I I don't don't have a way
64:25 of that performance by AMD oh no that's right it does down at the very bottom
64:28 yeah uh testing done by AMD performance Labs March 1st 2017 using a core
64:35 i76700k oh boy
64:39 um yeah so I'm not going to say look
64:43 sponsored content shouldn't exist I'm just going to say it needs to be clearly
64:47 disclosed and for me
64:50 personally um
64:55 I'm very careful about any claims that are
64:58 made in our publication that I couldn't stand behind
65:04 whether I was the one who ran the numbers or whether it was my idea or whether it was someone else's idea um
65:09 even in sponsored content and it's up to tech power up to manage their
65:13 relationship with their audience and their trust with their audience um in
65:18 terms of how they want to proceed with this
65:23 there yeah interesting one more topic um
65:28 I'm kind of done okay yeah that's boring that's boring oh
65:33 okay this is kind of cool pet yeah yeah coaxial gamer posted this on the for
65:36 original article from overclock 3d. net tashiba produces the world's first 4 bit
65:42 per cell so that's qlc nand flash memory
65:47 so the endurance on this stuff will suck
65:50 um like we're talking a handful of right Cycles
65:54 compared to what SLC would have been capable of if it still existed but um
66:00 great for write once read many many
66:05 times kinds of applications because it
66:08 will be really cheap so we're talking capacities of up to 96 gigabyt of
66:13 storage per die allowing Toshiba to
66:16 create a 1.5 terab SSD package with a 16
66:20 die stacked architecture so they're going to demo it at the 2017 flash
66:23 Summit in August uh there's x299 boards
66:27 bad vrm cooling oh yeah that's a big sort of thing I think we did tease that
66:32 so uh yeah uh we should probably talk
66:35 about it I've seen this guy's videos before I think you pronounced the
66:38 channel derau yep der I met him yeah yes
66:41 I've good videos actually but um der posted a video uh showing that the vrms
66:46 on an x299 board were reaching 100 degre
66:50 and the single 8 Pin connectors for the power supply can hit 60° when over
66:55 talking the 10 core models so here's derau good guy Pro overclocker um
67:01 actually makes the derau delting tool which he gave us one of nice which
67:06 pretty pretty sick yeah um and he has some serious concerns about x299 and how
67:13 much time the motherboard manufacturers had to work on their designs to make
67:17 sure that they were cooled correctly and not just that but um if you're
67:21 interested in that kind of stuff go watch his video he does good stuff but given that the motherboard manufacturers
67:26 also got blindsided by any CPUs with a
67:30 core count over 12 it's not just a matter of being rushed but also a matter
67:34 of not having enough information potentially to design a board that is
67:38 actually capable of handling this to be fair he was testing with one of 10 yes
67:44 the 10 cor models but yeah so it so it can't get any better it can only get
67:48 worse is sort of the point yeah okay
67:52 there's there's one more topic we can gloss over it a little bit but want to
67:56 some people information if no
68:00 um Peta ransomware okay um I do really
68:05 want to give a call out for the guy on the Forum that posted this thread WM
68:09 groom AK has done a very very good job
68:14 of keeping this up to date with really good article linking really good quoting
68:18 really good updates um condensing big
68:22 updates on other sites down into easy digestible things so if you're
68:26 interested in the world of viruses and
68:29 hacking and ransomware and wipers and
68:32 everything else definitely go check out this thread I just post it in the chat
68:36 awesome um and there's a lot of crazy
68:40 information in there there's there's a bit of a developing story yeah so you
68:44 can maybe if we cover this now and someone watches the show in three days
68:47 it's not going to be up to dat all our notes are wrong and not because James is
68:51 a bad person but because it has literally all changed it's been changing
68:56 since he made his notes so so so go check out that thread it's being updated
68:59 like it it was last updated like
69:02 slightly over an hour ago y like after the show was even supposed to start
69:07 technically before the show started but yeah um it it's it's parading as
69:12 ransomware it's actually a wiper uh apparently the email account has been
69:18 closed by the email hosting service that was hosting it so even if you try to pay
69:22 to get your thing back they can't receive the email so not going to be
69:25 able to give you a key to unlock your device like it's it's it's a mess right
69:31 now and if you're really interested in that stuff I would check out that thread it's it's very well up to date it even
69:37 includes like the Bitcoin wallet address that people are sending money to so you
69:42 can see like how much money they've made so far and everything like it's yeah
69:45 it's good all right so thanks for watching guys and uh we will see you
69:50 again next week same bat Time same bat Channel bye
69:59 you're like out out right yeah
70:09 okay
70:14 wles oh okay it doesn't matter it doesn't matter I'm not trying to hide it
70:17 it's just oh okay
