0:00 and we're live good evening everybody it
0:04 might not actually be evening where you are but I think you kind of get my point
0:09 um oh there's already oh look at this look at this we've already got a viewer
0:14 who's uh who's all about sort of our audio issues and uh how I should fire
0:19 slick and hire him so that or her could
0:22 be a girl I heard there's a girl on the
0:26 internet what's the name a oh yeah I have no idea yeah AO no idea there's a
0:30 lot of girls on that internet tons of them or at least
0:35 pictures that creepers took of girls on the internet it's a lot of that so good
0:41 night every oh good night no wait we're not done that's more of a we're done thing it's night here though it's
0:45 actually very late at night we had a very long day today we had once again
0:49 you know what for those of you who complain that it's unprofessional of us
0:53 to eat on the live stream um you know
0:56 what we're very sorry that we have to do that and trust us it's like we're not
1:00 that cool with what time like what time did we leave today this morning like
1:06 leave 2:45 nine yeah okay so so we got
1:10 started around 9: today and then we actually start that's that's pretty
1:14 typical on Fridays we shoot ncx Tech tip so then we make it back here for our
1:19 live stream at 9:00 our time and then we go for another hour and a half so you
1:23 guys do the math and then there's uh
1:26 work afterwards because I have to then watch the live
1:32 stream I I have to then watch the live stream I spilled food in my lap of
1:37 course you guys are wondering so so do I prefer this system the answer is no no
1:43 because it results in like a 13 14 hour
1:46 day yeah pretty much and then we get to eat at the like 12 hour Point that's the
1:50 first time we get to eat yep busy busy days so the good news is we have a busy
1:56 busy live stream for you one of the biggest the news this week was that um
2:03 NVIDIA has started well not they've
2:06 started they are not talking about it at all but the internets are starting to
2:10 talk about a replacement for the GTX 680
2:14 have you seen this have you heard about this so the rumor the word on the street
2:18 is it's going to be based on failed Tesla cores so Tesla's used for what's
2:23 that a supercomputer that deployed like a bajillion Teslas not that long ago I
2:28 won't know the name of it yeah I can't remember the name of it but Tesla is
2:31 used for supercomputing it's used for um things like cloud gaming so if you're
2:36 not familiar with cloud gaming that's um you know what I'll let you talk about
2:40 cloud gaming while I try to take like three bites here I'm not a fan of cloud
2:43 gaming but the idea is that it's all rendered and everything's pre-processed
2:46 in the cloud and then streamed down to your computer okay so tell me this about
2:50 cloud gaming based on oh right you
2:53 weren't there for Project Shield okay of course you have to troll me again no I
2:58 had forgotten because I was I was pretty down on cloud gaming
3:03 uh to start with like I was like oh yeah this isn't going to work bye-bye but
3:07 based on what I saw from Project
3:10 Shield it could work is that not local streaming though yes it's local
3:15 streaming but it's local streaming over Wireless which can't be that much better
3:18 than remote streaming over copper right
3:21 or better yet fiber yeah so when fiber hits cloud gaming is going to make your
3:26 gaming computer totally irrelevant forever it will never matter ever
3:31 again nope I'll play Legacy games You'll Play Legacy games yep you know what's
3:35 funny is I actually have Parts in my attic that are I have a yeah my my my
3:43 wife doesn't know about cuz she told me when we moved here she told me to throw
3:47 out all of the unnecessary Tech crap that I have and I was like oh yeah yeah
3:51 it's all gone it's all gone don't worry about it um it's hiding in the Attic
3:55 yeah there's a there's a box hiding in the Attic of enough Legacy Parts I think
4:00 I have a P2 233 some Edo RAM or it might
4:05 be might have been SD RAM by that time might be SD RAM I've got an old old id
4:11 like ATA 33 hard drive um like an a64
4:16 sound card Isa Isa a64 sound card and my
4:21 intention at some point is to find like a balling case and then just like I've
4:27 got an at power supply to go with it
4:31 and then I'm going to try like Frankenstein it into this balling
4:34 awesome looking machine so I can have a dedicated box just to play TIE fighter
4:38 so I've got my old thrustmaster Top Gun
4:42 joystick I saw that too seral seral
4:45 joystick epic there's one guy on the forums you got to check out his build
4:48 blog he did I don't remember all your specs if you're watching I'm sorry um
4:52 but the thing that stood out the most was he got voodo SLI running I told you about this I think
4:57 mhm yeah and that's just so awesome awesome so awesome wasn't he like even
5:02 running like old benchmarks on it he was running old benchmarks and trying to
5:05 prove his platform and like showing off him playing games and like really really
5:09 cool really cool build log he's talking about how he'd like buy stuff and people
5:13 would just send like like he said his two processors just came like taped
5:17 together two processors yeah so it's
5:20 like a dual CPU what like oh it must be like penium super super uber highend
5:25 yeah I think it might be pum I actually acquired back before I don't remember
5:30 what it is before dual cores were affordable um I had the I I I acquired
5:36 two Pentium 31 gigahertz and I think I
5:39 got something like a gig and a half of RAM or something for it uh when I
5:44 upgraded my my in-laws machine a number of years ago like this was this must
5:48 have been like six years ago because um
5:51 and you know what it actually kind of rocked running a modern OS like Windows
5:56 XP with dual processors even though
5:59 though they were underpowered for something like an office machine is way
6:03 better than a single core one of one of my most prized possessions within my
6:08 like the the the like room in your house
6:11 where you put all your Tech crap one of my most prized possessions in there
6:15 which I have like wrapped up like crazy in an antistatic bag so that I hope it
6:18 won't die is a one gig dim of uh ddr1
6:23 seriously yeah that's freaking awesome those were expensive those were like
6:28 crazy I don't know where I got it from I didn't buy it like I probably got out of
6:32 some system that a friend was like oh you can just have this I'm buying a new one I know you do computer crap and they
6:38 probably just bought a new system from Best Buy and like gave me their old crappy one crappy quote unquote because
6:42 it had a 1 gig ddr1 dim in it but yeah I I harvested that and just hold on to it
6:47 with dear life and every single time that I need to make like an old school
6:50 system for whatever reason I just throw it in to be like yeah now there's no RAM
6:56 problems instantly I can stack it with like
7:00 however many other sticks I want it's still usually more than half of the RAM
7:03 in the whole system it's just so epic
7:06 that's awesome I don't know if I have any I don't know if I have any old okay
7:12 probably my thrustmaster top gun so that joystick is is like legendary for
7:17 me other than that you know I wish I wish I still had
7:24 my monitor my CRT monitor so for those
7:27 of you who knew CRT monitors I had a P95 f+b from bonic which was aperture Grill
7:34 so it wasn't using that um whatever it was Shadow mask I think was the other
7:38 competing technology so aperture Grill was one of those things where you know
7:43 there was a lot of debate on the forums should I get an aperture Grill monitor
7:46 should I not because the aperture Grill causes two faint lines at about the top
7:50 third of the screen and the bottom third of the screen that allow the picture to
7:55 be much more square and much more clear for the flat screen
8:00 but actually caus those lines to be visible to you so people are like who I
8:04 couldn't get used to it or people are like oh I didn't even see it after two
8:08 three years so I took the plunge I got myself an aperture girl monitor I loved
8:13 that monitor one of my siblings took a quarter to
8:17 it never told me how it died the anti- glare Coating in the middle there was
8:22 nothing wrong with the monitor so I got a replacement from view Sonic it was
8:26 terrible it was like a refurbished this was when CRTs were not even really in
8:32 production anymore they got me the replacement when I was just like this is
8:35 unusable so I pwned it off for cheap and
8:39 uh and that was the end of my P95 f+b and that was when I made the switch very
8:44 begrudgingly to LCD and I moved to uh an
8:48 Acer 1916 W that 1440 by uh 900 was it I
8:56 don't remember I I don't remember it was like uh it was like whatever the
9:01 resolution was it was like super low res and I was just like oh it's WID screen
9:07 really small and I don't have a lot of desktop room like slow clap
9:13 myself so I blew like $ 6700 on a 2405
9:17 fpw and then that's the one that is still running on my wife's computer it's
9:21 starting to die though is it yeah I'm super sad I haven't noticed I haven't
9:25 spent like any time on it but I haven't noticed the edges are yellowing oh yeah
9:31 well it's cathod backlit so guys for those of you who don't know an LED
9:36 screen is not a thing okay I'm G let
9:39 that sync in for a minute that's why it's LCD LED yeah but people don't no I
9:44 know that people are like oh I want an LED monitor an LED monitor would be like
9:49 a lightboard like one of those Billboards that that's an LED monitor
9:54 trust me you don't want one of those or an OLED monitor would could technically
9:59 yeah yeah cuz that's an organic light so that would technically be an LED monitor
10:02 and that would be balling but we can't buy those yet no or we can but money
10:08 yeah we have to be like a sultan of like Malaysia or something and then we can
10:12 mount our OLED monitors in all of our cars they can go clear right uh oh there
10:17 was one on display at CES that was transpar that was transparent put it as
10:21 your windshield yeah that would be illegal I'm sure in any country anywhere
10:25 why what do you mean why because you could overlay like your speed and
10:28 everything or you could overlay a television show what if you could like
10:32 software mod it so that it forces to not show things on certain parts of the
10:35 screen so of course someone yeah okay I was going to say if someone handed you a
10:40 car that had a software limited screen
10:43 in the windshield what's the first thing you would do I'm not going to go into
10:47 that topic but that would be really
10:51 cool yay I want a screen right so LED
10:54 screens and LCD screens are not different things so an LCD is a liquid
10:59 crystal display it's a panel okay so it's thin it's thin it just goes at the
11:03 front and then uh ccfl or um fluorescent
11:08 those are the same thing okay so fluorescent lights go behind it and
11:12 shine through the LCD panel or you can
11:16 have an array of LED lights that shine through the LCD panel so that's the
11:21 difference so anyway it's an older fluorescent LCD monitor and what happens
11:26 to them is you can actually replace the cathodes I don't know if you knew that y
11:29 but you can replace the cathod but it's probably not worth it at this point
11:34 actually maybe it's probably really expensive 24 in VA panel though was a
11:39 very well-regarded monitor at the time do you think there might just be like stock hanging around I don't know I
11:44 don't know if I'd be able to get uh to get fluorescent tube looking into that
11:48 would be a fun video actually if you find they're so cheap now you can get an
11:51 LC you can get an LED backl LCD for like
11:54 nothing now and the advantage of LED is that they don't fade over time they
11:58 don't yellow over time and they last for a really long time which brings us
12:03 gracefully back to Tesla and NVIDIA's
12:07 upcoming replacement GeForce card um so
12:11 Tesla is used for uh compute
12:14 applications for cloud gaming and they want to take failed Tesla course which
12:19 doesn't mean failed so it's binning
12:22 process yes the binning process is the key here so you can have a Tesla spec
12:28 that goes whatever gigahertz whatever
12:31 memory bus uh whatever okay so that's the only thing
12:35 most people think about is what speed does it run at no there's way more than
12:39 that because for applications like compute where they're installing these
12:42 in blades they're going to have very strict power and heat guidelines so
12:47 there could be a chip that runs at 2 GHz at stock voltage but if it's hot like a
12:53 mofo it's totally unusable something can
12:56 be hot like a mofo
13:02 I'm hot like a mofa actually I'm really cold right now
13:06 I could use a jacket but the food's like frozen I know you microwaved yours but I
13:11 bet it's cold now yes the potatoes are
13:14 like solid but anyways um uh so the
13:17 binning process why don't you get into the binning process while I it's not
13:20 that show them how of us well it's pretty cold it's not that cold it's not
13:25 as cold as like two days ago it's 12° in here and you're in a T-shirt shirt nice
13:30 which sort of is more of a reflection on your wisdom and planning than it is on
13:34 the temperature I don't think it's that cold though I don't know I think it's
13:37 pretty cold we have the lights pointed at us though that's probably helping a little bit although they're fluorescent
13:42 lights so that's a thing they don't really heat out that much if we had the
13:45 ones from the ntx studio here oh that would H ridiculous so the other light
13:50 main light technology is incandescent which means basically
13:55 fire what it means um so that's where
13:58 something is just glowing so white hot
14:02 and so bright that it throws light all over everything around it those are hot
14:07 compared to ccfls which are hot compared
14:10 to L LEDs are you just checking to make sure the audio is actually good because
14:15 I never checked uh yes that's a good idea I have the twitch chat open here
14:19 too okay well maybe open that I was also going to bring up the list of companies
14:23 and what games and uh groups were
14:27 purchased good thinking I'll do some twiter questions except I got to finish this NVIDIA topic that I've been really
14:32 struggling to actually manage to finish sounds
14:35 good so the new card coming is going to be a replacement for the 690 it's going
14:40 to be failed Tesla cores which doesn't mean they're failed it could mean that
14:43 they run at a slightly higher power envelope which is fine when you can
14:47 throw a big old dual slot cooler on it in like a nice well ventilated gaming
14:51 chassis so no big deal and we're
14:54 expecting this to be an enormous well I'm expecting it to be based B on sort
14:59 of the leaked specs that have been seen and based on what we know actually not
15:02 even leaked specs based on what we know about Tesla specs this thing should be a
15:07 huge generational boost in performance so this was this core was
15:13 ready back when NVIDIA was launching GTX
15:17 680 but for whatever reason whether it was due to the competitive landscape
15:21 whether it was due to the yields on this gigantic die it's very expensive to
15:26 manufacture for a number of reasons so whether it was due to the yields whether
15:29 it was due to just it being very
15:33 difficult there being very few production lines that could actually manufacture this monstrosity they held
15:38 it back from the GeForce line and have only been using it for Tesla I think it
15:41 only recently made it to cuadro as well is that
15:44 correct I think that was a while back that it made it to Quadro not that long
15:48 ago though correct me if I'm wrong though guys um so I'm really excited
15:53 because I'm not a huge fan of dual GPU Solutions I don't like the inconsistency
15:57 of their performance so the way that in some games they'll be like this when you
16:01 compare to sort of a better single card you know if you go dual GPU okay
16:05 sometimes it's here sometimes it's here sometimes it's here because you're paying more for it um and there's just
16:10 more General like if if there's a game that runs perfectly on all
16:15 configurations except one you know all single cards run I pretty much guarantee
16:20 you it's all the single card configs that work and some dual card
16:23 configuration that doesn't work because it's a lot more complicated to code the
16:26 drivers for it so really excited about another truly high-end GPU that's using
16:31 a single GPU uh high-end graphics card using a single GPU and what that'll mean
16:36 for well for for everyone um are you
16:40 ready to join me for another of our main discussion topics or should I do some Twitter chat um I almost found it okay
16:46 let's do some Twitter Q&A then guys I'm going to go ahead and switch over to
16:49 Twitter and 121 new
16:53 interactions uh my speakers make some kind of strange high pitch pop every few
16:56 minutes any idea uh could be your phone if your phone is sitting near your
17:01 speakers and they're unshielded then there's a chance that you'll get some interference from them from your phone
17:05 whenever it's receiving or sending cellular data uh yes we will be covering
17:09 the THQ bankruptcy soon that's actually what Slick's compiling his uh his
17:14 numbers for what's that a pen you need a pen I have 15 pens you can
17:20 have so funny that one uh I might have one in my pocket you
17:26 can reach in and get it if you want no I got nothing that's a
17:30 shame so close and yet so far do we
17:35 really not have a single you know all the technology in the world and uh we
17:40 don't have a single pen it's cool you can go do problem
17:45 you're good okay I'm doing Twitter Q&A
17:49 then okay more Twitter Q&A would you
17:53 recommend the EVGA sr2 or SRX for
17:56 hardcore editing SL mid highish end gaming on the side actually yes that is
18:02 one of the only usage scenarios where I would genuinely recommend an SRX because
18:09 it is not useful for gaming mark my words slower for gaming than a than an
18:16 LG 1155 platform with a 3570k on it
18:19 especially if you're overclocking so there's that but if you can take
18:24 advantage of all of those cores and all those threads I mean I'm super stoked to
18:27 see what an SRX with Ivy Bridge e in it I want to see I've actually been able to
18:32 work with an SRX in real life really there's the issue for me is there's not
18:35 many cases or I probably would have bought an sr2 can the 900 do it uh yes
18:40 900d will do it but the 900 will not that's what I meant remember the 900d
18:45 and the 900 are completely different things much the same way that the 300
18:48 are and the 300 are different things although like where did Corsair get this
18:51 naming strategy from they both have 600s although the corsairs has a T and anex
18:56 does not what other numbers of overlap 600 do I think they both have a 200 is
19:02 there yeah low an yeah I think there's a carbide carbide 200 of some sort 200 r
19:08 or something like that yeah there you go so uh so Corsair when they re when they
19:13 iterate the 800d and the 900d a couple more times they'll have an 1100 as
19:18 well not really not sure where I was going with this cloud gaming will never
19:22 fully take over there's a reason we're called Enthusiast building computers is a hobby for many good for you but you're
19:27 wrong uh cloud gaming will take over and there will be nothing left of Enthusiast
19:31 there will be old games or like Indie Games it's like it's like saying um it's
19:36 like saying Super Nintendo is never going to die because there are
19:39 enthusiasts and there will always it'll always be there and you're right in fact
19:44 I think the most recent Super Nintendo game was made only a couple years ago or
19:48 something like that like yeah there's still guys coding games for Super
19:51 Nintendo and finding ways to like flash the ROMs onto cartridges and play them
19:55 and like you said with Indie Games there always be like Kickstarter they're going
19:59 to release and then stretch goals will always be like local platform local
20:03 platform or right now it's like Linux Linux Linux there will always be like
20:07 that that that push where there will be a few options for it but um yeah it's
20:13 going away mainstream mark my words 10
20:16 years from now you probably won't have any good reason to still have a
20:21 dedicated gaming computer uh but there come on guys okay
20:26 here here's another thing too is don't worry too about it because there's going
20:30 to be lots of stuff to Tinker with like
20:33 there's going to be lots of cool stuff that we can play with as enthusiasts I
20:37 mean that's like saying you know uh oh
20:40 you know the uh the desktop PC is never never going away because phones will
20:45 never take over ra ra ra the reality of it is we all have awesome smartphones
20:49 that we all use to play games and we all use to do all kinds of things and they
20:54 are coexisting that's okay so your local platform that you play your indie games
20:58 or whatever will coexist but you will have some kind of a cloud service maybe
21:03 10 years is optimistic especially for certain countries like I think in places
21:08 like Japan where infrastructure costs nothing in places like Europe where the
21:12 population density is so high compared to how how long did you say you think
21:16 it's going to take I said 10 years I think that's optimistic that's like I
21:19 think it'll take longer than that yeah no exactly 100% sure think yeah it'll
21:23 probably be more like 20 before we actually don't need it'll be a long time
21:27 so it'll be a long time so don't worry it'll be a long time and the transition
21:31 will be smooth well smoothish nothing's ever smooth nothing ever works that's
21:35 rule number one of tech tips thank you for joining us live Beno Beno Beno
21:40 please boost to 1080p up from 900p I'm
21:45 tired of see seeing people ask what it is please boost to 1080p plus up from
21:53 900p I'm sorry I don't understand stream in 900 I don't think we're streaming in
21:57 900p um I don't think I can check right now
22:02 though resolution oh what the heck we're
22:05 streaming in600 by 900 why are we stream okay sorry guys
22:09 there's nothing I can really do right now about that the profile must
22:13 transfer okay it's all Slick's fault because he was using uh he was using my
22:19 Twitch account to test some things when he was streaming some game last night
22:22 and his monitor is 1680 by 1050 which
22:26 because you know X splits awesome and doesn't acknowledge 1600 by or 16x 10
22:32 resolutions which I understand I understand it's it's a streaming
22:35 platform for I'm getting new monitors slick says he's getting new monitors I
22:40 don't I'll believe it when I see it so sorry about that guys we will uh we will
22:44 have to deal with uh we'll have to deal with that another
22:48 time um Australia Day cool watching from
22:53 the UK awesome when will The Sweep stakes be over you know what I haven't
22:57 talked to Lou from unbox there anytime soon
23:01 um or anytime recently so hopefully we'll be doing the gaming peripherals
23:06 giveaway very very soon I have them sitting in my waiting to ship stuff out
23:11 pile over there so it's uh we'll ship it out as soon as as soon as we uh we get
23:15 together and uh and do like a random.org choice for a winner so that's good uh
23:21 Tech Team GB says they saw my my story post on my Forum uh they wondered what
23:26 what I recommend for new reviewers um I think pretty much everything I have to
23:30 say is is in that post um if you if you
23:34 go on the liniste tips.com Forum and search for my story or something like
23:37 that basically I just posted I've talked about it on the live streams before so
23:40 if you've been following for a while then then you'll already know but uh I
23:44 posted sort of how I got into making YouTube videos and how my career has has
23:50 started and sort of continued to evolve
23:54 and uh slick is now prepared with our next main topic so let's do a few more
23:59 Twitter Q&A things talk about the diaper
24:03 video um I don't know what there is to talk about on the diaper video but it is
24:07 what it is I mean babies don't really they don't really care they don't really
24:11 have any shame have you heard about the
24:14 8350 um versus 3570 disagreement going
24:17 on between Logan and some neck beards no I haven't I yeah he posted a bunch of
24:21 videos saying that the 8350 beats 3570k
24:25 oh well it doesn't yeah I know oh okay I'm so that we're clear it I haven't I
24:30 haven't actually watched his videos um but I think it's like certain I think
24:34 what he's actually trying to say is that it wins in very specific use cases well
24:38 I saw the title of his video but I didn't watch it it was something to do with Twitch streaming and gaming I have
24:44 no idea what he was aiming at so if you're if you are if you're in an
24:49 environment where um where you actually have a lot
24:54 of multi-threaded junk going on in the background like if you have like three
25:00 people Skyping in and you have Windows of them here here and here and then
25:03 you're streaming from the corner while you're playing a game and you're doing like a stream like that where it's very
25:08 CPU intensive because it's encoding multiple streams then something like an
25:11 8350 could pull ahead of a 3570k because
25:14 all them cores yeah because all them cores but uh in sort of the well in
25:21 situations that most people would encounter that's not really going to
25:24 happen like we just said though we haven't seen his video you should have
25:28 yeah hi Winnipeg sorry hate sucks to be you man um you should have Skype callers
25:33 on your live stream you know what it's something that we might do at some point
25:36 with like uh you know having like diesel join us for example but it'll be a it
25:40 probably won't happen where we'll take actual live viewers as callers because
25:44 Twitter is a much more manageable way for us to interact with the
25:48 audience uh talk about Intel said they'll stop making desktop CPUs after
25:52 let's see let's see what they say although actually okay before we do that
25:56 I have another topic Intel is oh my
25:59 goodness I have I have two more that are awesome yeah that one too so let's start
26:04 with let's start with Intel uh is not going to make desktop boards anymore
26:08 yeah heard about that y they were never that huge in the motherboard Market
26:12 though in some markets it was different was it yes in markets where CU Intel's
26:17 strength more than well okay they technology so technology here you know
26:22 probably branding here and then strength number three I guess if I had to pick
26:26 one this is off the top of my head so they probably have more strength I mean Intel is just like you know if they had
26:31 eight arms sticking out of them they'd all be going like this right um but
26:35 their distribution Network yeah because
26:38 you can buy an Intel CPU anywhere
26:43 anywhere yeah so especially years ago
26:46 when ASUS or DFI or biostar or whatever
26:50 DFI and biostar yeah or like markets where ASUS didn't have a lot of
26:54 penetration very lowcost markets Intel was actually seen as a premium brand
26:58 because compared to the other garbage you could buy Intel was reliable it
27:03 would work every time and and that was
27:06 that so so Intel actually like is a thing well was a thing when it comes to
27:11 motherboards but now that has uh that has all change so what does this mean
27:15 I'll I'll take your thoughts first while I adjust the angle of the camera a little bit here because it's bugging me
27:19 I wonder if they'll be quite so strict on uh the specification for
27:25 everything other than that I don't really think it's that big of a deal
27:31 I don't know that's really all I have to say that's all you have to say about
27:34 Intel not doing motherboards anymore I don't think it's that big of a deal I was never even interested in it
27:38 motherboards but that's not the point what does it mean for the market we've
27:41 Consolidated down from okay here I'm
27:44 going to name all the motherboard makers I can think of from when I was an
27:48 Enthusiast at the very beginning okay so
27:51 like like I'm talking branded motherboard makers where you could actually go to a store or an online
27:56 website and buy it so
28:00 ECS biostar
28:03 foxcon soultech MSI ASUS
28:08 Gigabyte EVGA what are some of the other crazy
28:12 chain Tech chain
28:16 DFI um what else was there probably missing
28:20 some I'm probably missing a bunch but we're now down to oh Intel right Intel
28:26 is another one
28:31 um I'm sure there's it's probably blowing up with a whole bunch that we
28:35 just missed but those are pretty much all the ones I remember yeah so so at least at least a
28:40 dozen guys like existed around the in the socket a era and one by one they've
28:47 gradually just started a bit there's another one a bit uh there's 13 that's
28:53 happened with everything though every single piece consolidation so 13 I name
28:58 from when I was actually I don't know if I can count EVGA because I don't think
29:01 they overlapped with soultech so let's say at least 12 active ones at a time so
29:06 now we're down without Intel we're down to uh oh asrock's another one 14 of
29:12 course yeah azrock so lots of guys so
29:15 now we're down to ASUS Gigabyte as like a clear one two then MSI as a clear
29:22 number three and then ASRock which who
29:26 may or may not there was a rumor that ASUS is going to reacquire ASRock
29:30 because that's asrock's origin so that would leave us with three Intel will be
29:35 gone biostar and ECS are still out there but they're just making lowend stuff and
29:38 I can tell you the margins are not good like it just won't make any sense at
29:42 some point and they'll just abandon making Standalone boards evg is still
29:47 making evj is still making motherboards but I know that their volumes are not as
29:52 high as someone like ASUS and the margin's not there because they have to
29:55 get someone else to make it for them like whether it's foxcon or orus or
30:00 Gigabyte or whoever else they evj is not a manufacturer of
30:05 motherboards so that leaves us with what maybe six guys that are still active
30:10 now I mean CH that's happened with everything though seriously there's
30:14 still a lot of video card guys yeah but quite a few of them have fallen too
30:18 still a lot of peripheral guys if anything there's probably more peripheral is yeah monitors still Lots
30:24 although there might have been more uh look at gaming Studios looking at our
30:28 next topic yeah gaming Studios that has happened like crazy look at the volume
30:33 of just EA look at what they've like eaten and consumed and destroyed and
30:38 left dead well they don't leave everything
30:42 dead EA has good stuff the Sims is kind of
30:45 awesome wasn't that originally their title yeah
30:49 yeah no um NHL 2013 was that originally
30:54 their title which almost didn't happen wasn't that originally their title
30:59 who have they consumed that has like came out
31:08 well because I think they were working on uh Mass Effect one when they acquired
31:15 BioWare and I think they were working on Dragon Age one so those games were
31:20 released more from just BioWare standpoint and then Dragon Age 2 came
31:24 out I know you haven't played it but like I bought it was it bad
31:29 oh hated that game L Dragon Age 1 did
31:32 not like Dragon Age 2 you can't go anywhere it's just like oh I got to the
31:36 main city and I'm just in the main city and any quests that are outside the main
31:39 city I get to teleport to and then teleport back it's sweet that's so G so
31:44 boring I mean for me one of the best parts of any kind of an RPG Style game
31:49 is getting to the next town and like finding all the weird random stuff like
31:55 like the the chicken that you can throw down hole or whatever in Zelda or like
32:01 or like or like the house that you go into in Final Fantasy 6 where the
32:04 music's different so you know there's going to be like a cooky old man in there the the chicken at the very
32:09 beginning of Skyrim you run up and hit it the whole town freaking goes crazy on
32:13 you like like just awesome little things like that's so cool Mass Effect uh Mass
32:18 Effect 3 came out my brother and I were both like oh we haven't played Mass
32:21 Effect series at all let's not read anything cuz everyone hated Mass Effect
32:27 3 but we just refuse to read anything cuz we're like we'll catch up right both
32:30 played Mass Effect one both absolutely loved it awesome game loved that game it
32:35 was great picked up Mass Effect 2 I'm playing on PC I quit in like 15 minutes
32:40 that's it they they put everything on
32:43 like you can tell it was Hardcore made for a controller and if you go into the
32:47 key bindings to rebind things it's like oh yeah I rebind three moves onto one
32:51 button on your keyboard what why it's like no I don't want like I don't
32:55 remember them all but it's like jump and open and like do this other thing all my
32:59 space bar it's like no use is e what are
33:03 you doing use can be F or F or whatever like
33:08 you can bind it to whatever you want right like could be
33:13 you wow you know what I mean though yes
33:16 like being able to keybind specific abilities is like kind of important and
33:20 they put it all on single buttons I like screw this you know what I love about
33:23 like proper PC games like Quake 3 okay
33:27 awesome when got a widescreen monitor I was like okay go into the inii
33:32 file key in a value for field of view it's just like bloop key in a value for
33:37 resolution done it doesn't matter how old and
33:40 crappy it is if the game developer actually properly makes it customizable
33:45 and it it can't be that much work they just port and forget how much work is it
33:50 it's like built-in bench marking utilities how much work is it to record
33:54 a stupid time demo
33:58 come on like how much publicity does a game developer who produces a benchmark
34:04 for their game get from everyone
34:07 everywhere benchmarking their game like what was that um what was that game
34:12 where the Benchmark was like the big monster that comes out and like does
34:17 stuff uh I'm not going to be able to
34:20 think of it ah I can't think of it either we should like segue from that
34:25 and talk about whether or not people want those videos Planet 2 was that it yeah that was the one Lost
34:31 Planet 2 it's like I wouldn't have even considered playing that game cuz I just
34:34 didn't care and didn't have the time around that time but then there's a benchmark but there's a benchmark so you
34:38 see it on every review site for every video card and if your benchmark it
34:43 looks if your benchmark looks good enough which it should everyone's going
34:46 to go oh that looks cool I want to play that game super easy to get super easy
34:50 adver how much work is that anyway you know what before we go on to the THQ
34:55 acquisition what's up we should talk about benchmarking view if people want
34:58 it okay Right Far Cry 3 okay um let's
35:01 take some let's go have a look at Twitter really quick here to see if anyone was able to come up with uh with
35:07 any that uh that EA hasn't
35:11 wrecked uh here we go yeah same
35:14 experience as slick playing Mass Effect 2 he kept playing though because uh GIS
35:18 was sexy GIS is pretty awesome Slick's
35:22 in agreement with you if you can't hear him I know the shotgun mic's pretty directional sorry I'm late was
35:26 installing a pass VGA cool my 6870 good luck with that I hope you have some airf
35:30 flow Logan attributed two unreleased Windows 7 updates for the reason why
35:35 8350 pulled ahead no uh I think you
35:39 should check out Singularity computers he's a custom builder okay uh what about
35:43 Texas Instruments no they were never in motherboards should try Firefall it's
35:46 free for two days um wish I had time I'm going to go
35:51 in and do other things like work when I'm done this my 13-year-old friend is
35:56 getting a gaming PC and wants an i7 could you convince him he doesn't need an i7 uh he doesn't need one an i7 is
36:01 not a bad idea send him at the forums get him to go into the Bild Planning
36:05 Group y those guys are really good they know what they're doing send them to
36:09 linest Tech tips.com we are streaming on the xa1 hi from the UK hello hey
36:16 hello uh agreed exploration for the win
36:19 yes sir or ma'am Zachary probably not a
36:22 chick how many gigahertz can I get I don't know go for it find out that's
36:27 half the fun yeah uh IBM probably manufactured their own boards at some
36:30 point but I was talking branded and he's talking when he was into it very
36:34 specifically like but like branded in a retail box marked with the brand uh
36:39 Zotac and foxcon that's right Zotac does still make motherboards although it's
36:42 very Niche like very Niche I mean I was also wasn't talking about super micro
36:47 and tyan either so Zotac basically just ITX
36:51 boards um when my comp sleeps it
36:54 undetect the storage drive I have to restart to be able to play games we're
36:58 having a similar issue with our benchmarking platform which is using an
37:01 ice scuzzy disc that's a little bit different because ice scy disc sort of different okay any update on the build
37:05 I'm waiting for Mountain mods to ship me back my stuff want to put KN to a fans
37:09 on my build but I don't like the color any good way to paint it and will it affect performance painting it will
37:13 affect the balance and could even affect the shape slightly paint is not um
37:18 insignificant it does have thickness if I was really going to go all out and I
37:22 was going to really try to put Noctua fans in a system I would try and figure
37:26 out some way to to dye the plastic because that's probably a better way to
37:30 do it without adding any weight or any bulk or any uh or affecting the balance
37:35 because balance is everything with a
37:39 high quality fan have you ever actually done that though no or heard of anyone
37:42 doing that no because how would you dye it properly how' you dye plastic you'd
37:46 have to no because the motor's in there you'd have to you'd have to um put like
37:49 some kind of a waterproof thing that would be hard that' be really cool but
37:53 that' be a cool mod though black KN to a fans like custom made cuz I love to us
37:57 but they only work in systems like that like the I guess you can't see can't see
38:01 that so green C70 it looks really military it looks really cool throw a
38:04 saber-tooth in there and it just looks awesome our live stream setup is a Canon
38:08 XA 10 we've got a road shotgun mic on it um we're streaming to a black magic
38:13 intensity Pro capture card we're using xsplit and we've got a 3770 with like 8
38:20 gigs of RAM as our as our streaming computer running on Onboard video
38:25 watching from sa where's SA South Arizona I think there's probably
38:30 more than one San Antonio and we have fans from around the world South Africa
38:35 South America shout out to all of those places hello everybody
38:40 um uh there there will probably be a new Chips side it'll probably be like
38:45 Z87 or something I know I'm going out on
38:48 a limb there whoa lus calm down that was creative
38:58 also in the snow yes snow shout out to
39:01 you too editing dual aha dual well
39:04 neither editing you don't need either of those things you need one Cuda capable
39:09 core and preferably a Quadro if you're using Premier Pro PC chips ah yes PC
39:15 chips there you go that's another one motherboard manufacturer low end stuff
39:21 okay uh what temperature is dangerous for laptops internal Hardware I'd say
39:24 anything above 80 to 85 degrees is probably getting into not too
39:27 comfortable Zone laptops are usually pretty well like they know what they're
39:31 building they're usually cooled enough no updates on the Intel smartphones we
39:35 did talk about them a little bit at CES the one thing that the that the guys in
39:38 the booth did mention to us though was that especially the lower cost one was
39:43 aimed more at developing markets and not so much as a North American thing so
39:47 it's got like good performance but quite inexpensive so they were aiming to get
39:51 smartphones down to sort of a few hundred Price Point again uh utilizing
39:56 what you're talking about with the uh distribution networks they know where
40:01 they can push so might as well
40:05 mhm speaking of
40:08 phones I have officially switched to an HTC 8X I'm running Windows 8 phone
40:14 247 and I'm going to do it for at least 30 days before I decide whether I'm
40:18 going back to iOS and how's that going for you so far I have a list of
40:23 frustrations actually maybe tomorrow or Monday we should film part two of my I
40:29 switched blog so you can check it out on the lus tech tips YouTube channel if you
40:33 haven't seen it already I did a day one one where I went through and everything
40:38 that bothered me on day one or everything I thought was cool on day one
40:41 is all in there and then I have a huge list of notes that's going to make up
40:45 the next couple videos where I'm it's going to be sort of everything that happened before day three and everything
40:49 that happened between kind of day three in day 15 and then I'll probably do one
40:53 more at the end of 30 days where I let you guys know based on my experience am
40:57 I going to switch back to iOS or am I going to stick with Windows Phone 8 I'm
41:02 not going Android for all of you who are about to suggest that I buy a Galaxy S3
41:06 he refused to try it he grabbed Windows Phone 8 which is like still being
41:11 developed for pretty hardcore because it's like oh I've seen his list of notes
41:16 and there's a lot of stuff that's just like really like the auto rotate thing
41:20 yeah that one's pretty frustrating you cannot cannot turn off auto rotate on
41:25 Windows 8 Windows Phone 8 and not wrong I can hear you all rushing to your
41:30 keyboards and Googling it Windows Phone 8 does not support disabling auto rotate
41:37 so if you're using the phone in bed and you want to use it in portrait mode you
41:41 cannot do that it will switch to landscape mode on you so then you'll
41:44 flip it again and it'll go back to portrait mode and then you'll flip it
41:48 again and you'll end up in this endless cycle of flipping the phone around not
41:52 knowing what's going on and what's up and what's down for people that tuned in
41:55 last week my keyboard works that was weird the cable completely
42:00 broke like it doesn't work on anything else and the driver got messed up at the
42:04 exact same time so well was probably to do with the broken cable like fing
42:09 things up maybe yeah um so I had to pitch that cable
42:13 and and he stole my C I stole your cable
42:16 I gave it back did you give my cable back yeah okay cuz I was going to have to charge you for that I'm using
42:22 the I'm using the detachable cable from my quickfire because the quickfire is
42:27 detachable cable is awesome it's like sleeved and golden tipped and just sweet
42:33 so I just shoved it on my ducky and I'm good to go now all right you know what I
42:37 want to talk let's talk more consolidation before we do this one okay
42:41 um well we didn't get any EA answers because I think we scrolled down oh yeah
42:45 did anyone actually manage you asked a question and then you clicked on the
42:48 comments right away so no one had time to answer it oh okay Intel doesn't make
42:52 mother I hope they still do Nicks Logan lus says you're wrong about the 83 50 uh
42:58 we we have we have we have done a fair bit of testing on that and like I said
43:03 if he's in a particular scenario and maybe Far Cry 3
43:08 is an exception maybe we should do Far Cry 3 testing so so hold hold off guys
43:12 don't sort of he's wrong in the context
43:15 of most games and anything we've ever tested but if he's found a scenario
43:20 where the 8350 comes out ahead we haven't seen his video yes so
43:25 there that's a factor we can't actually say he's wrong cuz we haven't seen his
43:29 video slick your thoughts on the Elder SCS MMO while I eat I am excited and
43:34 very very fearful at the same time okay if none of you guys know they released a
43:38 beta sign up I've been like too nervous to write the ridiculous essay that I'm
43:42 going to write for why I should be chosen for this beta I'm actually going
43:46 to sit down tomorrow for like an hour or two and like properly script the whole
43:51 thing I didn't have time for this and I know you're really really good at
43:54 like like you took English in University so I'm probably going to send it to you
43:58 what did you take I thought you took English I skipped
44:03 it anyways I know you're good at that
44:06 kind of write up so I'm going to send it to you when I'm done to edit it and I'll
44:09 get you to edit it somehow um hate you you're fired and then I'm
44:15 going to hand that in I'm super freaking stoked and scared as hell at the same
44:19 time because some of the stuff that I've read has been like oh God you're going
44:23 to destroy everything but then later on they're like hey we listened to our fans
44:28 and changed it so it could they're
44:31 actually listening and like I've seen quite a few videos if you check out the
44:34 interview videos and stuff they're like hey we go on this forum we go on this
44:38 forum we go on this forum we read everything that gets posted under these
44:42 forums on these specific like sticky topics and stuff we read everything and
44:47 they pay attention to what people are saying so they have been fixing things that are like holy crap that's bad so
44:53 I'm actually really excited I've been a huge fan of every single Elder Scrolls
44:58 game ever uh mowind is like by far and
45:02 large way above everything else in my L of favorite G nothing is far and large
45:07 if it was far and large then that's the same as it being close and
45:10 normal no because what if it's like a skyscraper it can be far and large and
45:14 close and large
45:19 touche anyways um it is by far and
45:24 large my personal favorite game ever I've my like list of games that I just
45:28 absolutely love and morwin just completely trump card you've also never played any of my favorite games Final
45:33 Fantasy 6 TI fighter fin Fantasy 6 I haven't played TIE fighter I will I will
45:37 go back and play them I seriously doubt they will beat morwin though prob
45:42 probably not probably not one of my spring breaks in high school I spent
45:47 pretty much the entire duration on the couch in front of my TV playing morn
45:51 almost the entire time I love that game
45:55 and i' I've said my story before about figuring out the main quest so I'm not
45:59 going to bother repeat that but yeah amazing I'm stoked for Elder schols MMO
46:03 but like I just said I'm worried too so I hope it comes out well I think it'll come out well but it's probably about
46:08 time for a Changing of the Guard I mean what do we have Guild Wars 2 Warcraft
46:12 the 16th or whatever expansion pack they're on now okay I was going to say
46:15 expansion yeah still technically the same one yeah but come on I mean it's
46:20 such a different game compared to what it was when it launched completely yeah
46:24 it's ridiculous well but that's good that's probably what's kept it fresh
46:28 that's probably what's kept subscribers too because at the beginning it was it
46:31 actually oh people might hate me for this I think at the beginning it was a
46:36 little bit more hardcore and at the beginning you had to have a 40-man raid
46:39 group to do raids so you needed this like huge network of people all the
46:43 servers were self-contained at the very beginning there was no Battlegrounds so
46:48 all I don't even know what a Battleground is so like there's like a
46:51 capture the flag one and there's like a whole King of the never mind anyways at
46:55 the beginning you needed 40 people if you wanted to raid there was World PVP
46:59 that was it and it's all contained on your own server so you knew like all the
47:03 top guilds on your server you knew like the top dudes of the top Guild on your
47:07 server because there's only like three really big guilds on the server so you
47:10 know everyone when you go into PVP if it's you know the guys you're fighting
47:14 and like it's very possible that you've been in vent with them before even if they're on the other side people don't
47:18 even use vent that much anymore it's Skype now anyways um like you knew
47:23 everyone now it's massively across server and now when you look for an
47:27 instance you just like click a button and click join and a timer goes and then
47:31 once it finds enough people it's just like join instance and you join in with people from other servers and stuff and
47:35 you just leave when you're done so there's no like communication really
47:39 like there used to be so it's more mainstream way more mainstream it's kind
47:43 of weird I don't know I come from EverQuest days so new MMOs are just kind
47:48 of icky to me I don't know uh what else we got but I'm still
47:54 stoked for the Skyrim one or whoa ell schs one no one uh no one has managed
48:02 to post anything so let's take that as
48:06 no one thinks EA has ever acquired anything and not eared it I just saw a
48:11 funny Twitter um D D D D D yeah I I see nothing
48:17 someone apparently has the same steak knives as me okay so let's talk uh let's
48:22 talk guys I don't know if you've know if you know this yet but lynxis so if you
48:27 guys remember linkis used to be their own thing and then they were acquired by
48:31 Cisco so any recent linkis router
48:34 actually has a big Cisco on it and then like a little like linkis somewhere like
48:39 maybe on the bottom um Cisco the deal is
48:43 done has sold off the linkis in fact the
48:46 entire consumer networking business unit to belon of all
48:51 companies so Cisco gradually closed
48:54 things down like flip I don't know if you guys remember flip video I mean that was doomed anyway just because phones
49:00 were catching up so fast was like yeah
49:04 I'm going to carry around a dedicated device to film crappy videos no offense
49:10 to flip I made a video about the flip way back when and basically because you
49:15 know I try not to you know if you don't have anything nice to say don't say
49:19 anything at all is sort of the approach that I take but what I did do in the
49:22 video was I showed a sample video shot with the flip or I shot another video
49:27 with the flip so I let people make their own decision and what they think about the Flip's image quality but I had a
49:33 Flip HD that I B from a friend to film uh me unboxing and talking about a
49:40 ducky 908 DK 2 you're such a
49:43 dork if you can find that video prop this guy he does unboxings I don't know
49:48 the account name to that YouTube I don't know the password to that mysterious
49:53 account name to that YouTube so I can't help you find it but it's out there somewhere
49:57 um I don't even know if I'm in it I think I just talk and like I'm holding
50:01 it towards the thing oh so it's like one of those like um like the horrible P
50:07 unboxing you can't see anything in like a dimly lit room and you're like oh yeah
50:11 I'm really excited about this like mouth breathing into the
50:15 camera so cool it's not even like it's pretty bad
50:21 basically what I do is show off Blue switches that's basically what I did
50:25 anyways yeah um that's why I had that flip and then I still have it because I
50:30 haven't seen that guy since okay here we go hey someone defending EA EA acquired
50:36 Criterion which are still alive and making happy you know what hold on we're not done with the links this thing so
50:41 we'll go back to that hold on okay the look on your face kind of said it all
50:45 but uh so guys you know what I'd love
50:48 let's ah let's reach out to the twitch chat for a change I love you guys um so
50:53 tell us what you think about the
50:57 lynis uh the lynxis deal where they are
51:02 being there we go where they are being
51:05 acquired by Bellin just seems like such a strange
51:11 thing so let's scroll down to the bottom someone just said I hate that Fallout 3
51:14 doesn't work on Windows 7 it does fix it
51:18 someone doesn't care someone loves bacon I think belin's a good company Cisco
51:22 something bankrupt and something holy crap wow it now I remember why we don't
51:27 use can't read it okay lynxis is the
51:31 whole R uh okay you know what I give up
51:35 can one of the mods put on slow mode ah it's okay we're
51:40 done that that was pretty much it I mean for me belin's uh I mean okay so why did
51:46 Cisco get rid of it because and see this
51:49 is this is the thing that kind of kills me about the way business is done versus
51:54 the way that uh a normal person might think make sense so Cisco has a certain
52:01 profit margin that they have to maintain in order to please their shareholders
52:05 and to make their numbers look good so it doesn't matter how much money they're
52:10 making in general it's the percentages and everything it's it's making sure
52:14 that those numbers all keep growing so
52:17 you have to grow how much revenue you're doing you have to grow your profit
52:20 margin you have to grow your market share you have to grow your unit sold
52:24 you have to grow them all at the same time that's what gives shareholders a
52:27 big happy smiley face and makes them invest money into your company so if I'm
52:32 Cisco and I'm like okay so I own this linkis consumer consumer brand and they
52:37 sell routers and maybe compared to Cisco equipment which
52:42 has well into double digits margins on
52:46 it oh yeah like well into double digits margins Because the actual bomb cost of
52:50 a high-end Cisco switch is not this the
52:54 opposite of that is peanuts compared to the development and the software that
52:59 went into it so if they can sell once they're done developing the the thing if
53:03 they can actually sell any of them then they're
53:09 like and the thing is they'll probably sell quite a few yeah whereas with a
53:14 consumer product okay you have to put in all that work developing it but you have
53:19 to make it up in volume because you're not making more than maybe 20 30 points
53:23 on actually selling the thing so and
53:26 then you got to deal with retailers and they want all these backend programs and
53:30 you got to deal with end users and they want all this you know you got people
53:35 calling you and they're like um the
53:38 lights aren't on did you plug it in well no my internet's not
53:43 working um do you have internet is it the
53:47 WPS does that open the port so that's the kind of thing that a
53:52 company like Cisco is not really set up for or accustomed to so the amount of
53:57 overhead that goes into dealing with retail consumer Brands and how low the
54:01 margins are compared to their traditional business so if I was sort of
54:06 the only one making the decision I'd go okay well are they
54:10 profitable yes are they doing business
54:14 are they employing people are they providing a good service to their
54:18 customers yes yes yes yes okay leave it
54:22 alone what's wrong with it whereas from
54:25 a bigger business perspective are they profitable is not as important as are
54:29 they growing our profit margin so there you go Belin on the
54:35 other hand is accustomed to the low margin sort of consumer oriented
54:40 branding business uh the one concern I'd
54:43 have about Belin is do they have the do
54:47 they have the coonies to do the kinds of things that lynis did where they had
54:53 very long-term SKS things like wrt54
54:57 ran forever amazing things like ea4500
55:02 even have a long life cycle compared to what I've seen from typical Belin
55:07 consumer products where they just they're there and then they kind of
55:11 they're on fire sale and then they're gone um so yeah I'm I'm I'm very very
55:17 interested to see how how all of that shapes down I mean it comes down to that
55:21 theme that we had when we excuse me when we were talking about motherboards
55:25 before where it's that cons consolidation so how many networking
55:28 guys are left compared to how many there were
55:33 before okay well Cisco doesn't care so
55:37 just so you know Cisco did nothing wrong
55:40 they got rid of an asset it's not their problem anymore oh they made a bunch of
55:44 money selling it and or no they didn't they lost a lot of money because they
55:48 acquired it for like five billion or something back yeah but they made Instant Cash okay yes they have cash in
55:53 the bank my friend's GPU died out of nowhere sometimes
55:58 happens uh sure why
56:02 not uh oh Vector nice scared you don't
56:07 click on buttons man he seemed like
56:10 pretty coherent didn't the last one seemed pretty coherent yeah I think so
56:14 and we all got screamed at 75 to $100
56:17 mid Tower get a Define
56:21 R4 well I know uh GTX 680 now wait for
56:24 you know what this is always the internal question let me put it this way
56:29 uh if you can afford a GTX 680 right now and it meets your performance
56:32 requirements go for it GTX 700 series is
56:37 going to be a lot more expensive than you can acquire a 6804 right now there's
56:41 at NC this week There's a GTX 670 for
56:44 what was it 2 280 or something it's like
56:48 289 or 299 or something under $300 after
56:51 it comes with Assassin Creed 3 after a mail and rebate comes with a game um so
56:56 yeah will a 700 series perform better yes will it cost probably double to
57:01 Triple that yes it will so it's up to
57:04 you man and one thing you can always do is we don't necessarily support on our
57:08 forums yet because of multiple reasons but you can jump on a hardware Forum
57:11 move your card after you buy it and pick up a higher-end one yeah or better yet
57:16 find someone who's unloading their 680 in anticipation of 700 series right now
57:20 cuz I guarantee you they're out there yep they're out there they're out there
57:26 ni I'm looking for a CPU Cooler and an SSD I'm a heavy gamer which has
57:30 absolutely nothing to do with your CPU Cooler or your SSD but grab an h100i and
57:35 grab either an 840 Pro 256 gig or a vector 256 gig lus it's 1:00 a.m. here
57:42 I'm sorry I can't stay I'm sorry too Brian lus have my babies it really
57:46 doesn't work that way that's not really a tech tip but uh you'll just have to
57:50 trust me on this one yes quickfire TK is a great keyboard for a non-s spacious
57:55 area um sorry I don't have time for that
57:59 right now hi Puerto Rico please fix the focus of the live stream is the focus
58:03 off I think it's on autofocus so I think it's going back and forth I can try and
58:07 fix that uh sure okay slicks on it is
58:10 PCIe 3.0 capable by AMD motherboards only compatible with visher
58:15 architecture uh yes wait what what the
58:19 heck is he talking about vishera and bulldozzer are the same thing vishera is
58:23 an architecture made up of bulldozer cores so any of the newer FX
58:28 8350 80 or 6300 what am I doing I need
58:32 you to move into the middle cuz it seems in when it focuses move to the middle yeah cuz I need to be able to see you
58:37 when it's trying to focus okay
58:41 okay is that
58:44 better it's actually hard to make it
58:47 focus when you're doing that all right I think that's good though uh slick did
58:51 you kill par he says no okay no doesn't
58:56 Belin still make their own routers isn't this sort of anti-competitive what do
58:59 you think Belin is going to do with it they'll probably still maintain both brands in much the same way that Cisco
59:03 never well they did kind of Rebrand all the rers Cisco but I don't know what was
59:08 up with that that was only near the end was it Apple had a motherboard Market uh
59:12 okay we're talking guys we're talking about branded motherboards sold on their
59:18 own guess I won't buy linkx this
59:22 anymore 4500s are still going to be awesome even when doesn't own it uh yes
59:28 we don't bench on a C70 we use that as our thermal test bench I still bench do
59:32 you well okay sort of that's a bench yeah it's just a thermal
59:37 bench I saw it earlier didn't want to
59:40 say anything so let's just leave that there for a bit oh my God that's awkward
59:44 um Jason Lee asks why not sell linkis to dink Rus my bet would be that they
59:49 didn't actually have enough money or care to buy it um ASUS is quickly
59:55 gaining Market share in the networking space they are just
59:58 rolling like freaking huge so it kind of makes sense ASUS is just ASUS where
60:03 you're just kind of like okay the first generation product might not be perfect
60:07 and the second generation product might not still be perfect but the third
60:10 generation one will just sort of roll everything else and everyone else might
60:15 as well just go home they'll take a bit but they'll get it right and then they'll just Crush yeah that's acus for
60:20 you it's like it's like their their mission statement just must just be like
60:24 take your time destroy go into new categories question
60:29 mark destroy because they're ASUS I mean it's
60:34 not I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing I'm an ASUS kind of guy uh AMD
60:40 win stock clock crisis
60:45 Warhead I don't know about this I'm running away my friends oh okay uh okay
60:53 I think we we've caught up okay so let's talk about th you being gone bye-bye
60:58 okay so so where did it all go consolidation is the theme of the night
61:02 I couldn't find the exact post that I Foundation is the theme tell me more
61:06 about the post I couldn't find the exact post that I used for n link weekly I
61:11 don't know I looked for it quite a bit using the exact same we filed an episode of n link weekly today that had all of
61:16 the numbers on it as well but it might not be live yet yeah um but I do have
61:21 the company Acquisitions so Sega acquired Relic who makes company heroes
61:25 in warh Hammer um cotch media how does Sega still exist and THQ doesn't that's
61:30 what I want to know it actually kind of blows my mind I have no idea like I
61:35 think Sega own like I don't know this I wish I did but I think Sega kind of just
61:39 owns a lot of stuff I know they do so who cares they're just a they're they're
61:43 in they're a parent company now it doesn't
61:48 matter coach media the guys that bought volition they're a parent company right
61:52 okay they own the they own the company that makes Dead Island okay and Dead
61:56 Island wasn't that just one game no they made Dead Island too I'm pretty sure
62:00 okay so it was one game twice yeah okay
62:04 cool um so wasn't it like not a very well regarded game some people really
62:09 liked it I've heard kind of broad ends of the spectrum on each side okay some
62:13 people liked it a lot or absolutely hated it I think it had fun multiplayer
62:17 okay or Co-op or something I never actually played it Co-op zombie games is
62:20 kind of hard to go wrong yeah so like I think that's kind of their thing there
62:24 I'm not entirely sure though coach cotch I'm not sure how to say this but cotch
62:27 media uh took out volition which has
62:30 Saints Row and they bought Metro so 2033
62:34 and the rights to 2034 okay and then
62:37 krych grabbed Homefront which I think krych is already making Homefront to so
62:42 they just bought the whole thing so now it's theirs instead of buying the rights
62:45 to do it temporarily okay instead of being a developer for yeah yeah so now
62:50 they own the whole thing so they just basically were like okay we'll take that
62:54 if you're offering it all right I me if it's if they knew they were making
62:57 actually that's probably a really good sign oh yeah cuz krych knows their
63:00 business and if krych thinks whatever they're working on is like going to be
63:05 good then I sort of trust krych inherently that's good take two who is
63:09 2K and Rockstar grabbed evolve which is
63:12 a code name project so not sure what
63:15 that is could it be a new uh what was
63:18 that that game by The Sims guy that no one cared
63:22 about sport sport yeah maybe it's a new sport probably not I don't think so I
63:27 think wasn't that one of like the biggest devastating so stoked for that
63:31 game I bought the like pre-released character creator thing and I bought the
63:34 game and was just like what is this is it that bad yeah I paid I played one
63:39 fulltime through just cuz I was like no I bought both these things I will play
63:44 it but I just that was a waste of time huh it's just not like they War I gold
63:49 pre bu they developed it for like ridiculous amounts of time yeah oh yeah
63:54 I don't remember how long it was and then it was just like devastating oh
63:58 this feels like an indie game that you developed in like a couple months well
64:01 it was one of those like Allen wake type things where it's like I'm sorry you
64:04 were working on this game for how long yeah and then you ended up with what was
64:08 apparently I never played it but was apparently a pretty decent game Alan
64:11 Wake yeah yeah lots of people like it but I mean they were talking about Allan
64:15 Wake when I was running a 9600 Pro like
64:19 I've been talking about this stuff for a long time then it comes out and sucks Ubisoft grabbed South Park Stick of
64:24 Truth so have you seen videos for that
64:27 no it actually looks like the first game based off like a TV show that I would
64:33 actually be interested in I did play the South Park game for N64 though the
64:37 snowball fight was awesome I think South Park is the only one that can like
64:41 really pull it off well they have the like the character style already that
64:45 they' adapt very well they have sort of as long as they've actually got the
64:49 writing team involved to make it I think they did South Park humor like there's
64:54 been Simpsons G games that if I hear correctly are somewhat oh The Simpsons
64:59 Sid scroller is awesome the old arcade game I've never played no I've heard of
65:03 it but I've never played oh it's freaking amazing it's like the best sides scroller you're like Bart and
65:07 you're like swinging your skateboard around and like that's awesome yeah like
65:12 bad guys all look like uh Principal Skinner or whatever and like yeah no
65:16 it's awesome that's sweet so amazing but like actually pretty stoked for that and
65:20 then they just completely consumed THQ Montreal I just went like oh I see there
65:26 ours now so yeah there's one wait I
65:30 don't think you ever said Ubisoft that's what I don't did you say
65:34 Ubisoft I think Ubisoft took over South Park SE of Truth and Montreal I think
65:39 and then they yeah I think there's one
65:43 title I don't remember which one it is it's the group that makes
65:46 Darksiders they have not been purchased yet and that's because they are not up
65:50 for sale okay I'm not entirely sure what's going on there I think it might
65:55 be part of the bankruptcy deal but they
65:58 are not up for sale which is kind of sucky because dark starters was actually
66:01 pretty awesome it goes to show you how much money it takes to run a publisher
66:04 and game developer because it wasn't that long ago that THQ wasn't it like a
66:09 month ago THQ ran that in bundle that that yeah that Humble Bundle and they
66:13 made like a lot that injected a lot of cash into the company and they're
66:18 bankrupt now already yeah like was that did they already know that it was going
66:22 down no matter what I think the idea with that cuz you notice like steam
66:26 Humble Bundle like they they picked up a new guy I don't remember who it was and
66:30 he was like to run their company from there on because their old guy I don't
66:33 know if it was the CEO but someone highend um was like I can't do this
66:38 anymore and stepped back they picked up a new guy and then he just went nuts he
66:41 pushed the Humble Bundle thing he pushed some crazy aggressive steam sales he
66:45 just like went absolutely crazy but I just guess it wasn't enough probably
66:49 spiraling too hard couldn't pull it out of it and then they just died I bet you
66:54 if they were able to survive to things like uh company Heroes 2 if they able to
66:59 survive to that release they might have been able to pull it back out right but
67:03 they probably just couldn't live that long which is really unfortunate because
67:07 THQ is pretty awesome I'm actually pretty upset that they're gone but some
67:11 of the Acquisitions I'm crisis yeah or krych
67:15 rather krych Ubisoft Ubisoft has been doing really great so far okay lately
67:19 now except for you play I'm sorry but
67:23 you play is like come on guys what did it do the other
67:27 day that was oh yeah we had all the files in the install directory and we
67:31 went to play the game and it just it just disappeared gone had no idea
67:35 completely gone no idea it was there I mean this is stuff that even uh even
67:39 that other one that I even the gross orange circle of origin yeah origin even
67:44 origin has that figured out um I haven't
67:47 set up my entire house with Inson I haven't had time and one of the light
67:50 switches I wired wrong so one of my other lights doesn't work so I'm sort of
67:54 I'm waiting is that that one yeah that's why that's why that doesn't work yeah
68:00 okay so I'm um I can never find my shoes
68:03 my brilliant plan is to go ahead and uh
68:07 hold off on that for now until I can afford to do the whole house and have an
68:12 electrician come in and just do it for me because it'd be pretty cool I don't
68:16 know if inston is the one I'd go with um just because I don't I haven't and I'm
68:20 not saying I wouldn't but I haven't looked haven't tried the other ones yeah
68:23 I haven't tried anything else and I haven't seen they have in terms of like a software interface for managing the
68:28 whole thing with automated like programmable events okay like the phone
68:33 app is good and it works and blah blah blah blah blah like and all it all works
68:36 but I need to know if I can program things like while I'm away if I can have
68:41 random lights turn on at random intervals make it look like you're at
68:44 home and what yeah so cool cool stuff like that baby mode would be cool just
68:49 have everything in the house turn off baby mode yeah be like baby sleeping
68:52 mode just like power down everything
68:57 yeah turn off the home theater so then when he cries and I'm trying to go and
69:01 get to him then I can trip over his toys and step on his Legos and I didn't mean
69:05 lights I me things that made noise calm down I meant things that make noise it's
69:10 completely unrelated to lights I don't think there's anything in my house that makes noise you have kind of a eerily
69:16 quiet house yeah my house is sort of quiet um lonus what's the Forum server
69:20 running don't ask me Forum server running what do you mean what do you
69:25 mean Hardware software what are you talking about Apache Cent Apache
69:30 Centos uh what board's in there 980f
69:33 980x it's a 980x on an MSI Big
69:37 Bang yeah yeah oh yeah big bang X power
69:42 we had a 650 TI in there that got pulled out and replaced with what card did you
69:46 give me I don't know what that was uh I think it was a 2600 XT passive passive
69:51 card passive yeah passive card pretty cool um some fsp 400 power supply we had
69:56 a stock cooler in there that uh this was due to Slick's utter incompetent
70:01 actually you know what I must have had it in there so it's possible it's got
70:04 plastic push pins so I think one of them popped out or maybe I didn't have it
70:08 quite in enough so that was uh that was causing some overheating and CPU
70:12 throttling so we have a stock Intel cooler in there that's like one of the
70:15 baller ones with the blue LED and like the copper all around it and like an
70:19 extreme Edition stock heat sink to explain a lot of the outages um we now
70:24 have a new boss mode firewall and since
70:27 it's been installed how many times has he said we've been attacked I think it was like 9,000 times that this one guy
70:33 like the afternoon after the new firewall was installed it was hit some
70:38 guy was hitting it like 9,000 times and then like that afternoon we're getting
70:41 dosed right away so like we've been getting hit pretty hard um we had power
70:47 issues today oh that was awesome explain
70:50 what was running on what the electricians wired up the tech tips
70:54 Studio incorrectly so there's a bank of eight Outlets that's supposed to run all
70:58 the lights and it's a 30 amp circuit for these eight Outlets so it's supposed to
71:02 run all of the lights and the test computers and all that stuff and it went
71:07 out and I'm like what form server goes down I'm fre so 30 amp circuit goes out
71:14 I mean what were we running off the thing like a microwave you know 2,000
71:18 watt like no we didn't have a microwave so I'm like okay so I go down to the
71:22 breaker and I call up the warehouse manager I'm like the only only one
71:25 that's tripped is this 50 amp breaker everything else is fine and he's like no
71:29 no for sure they hooked up that one to the 30 amp breaker and the other one to
71:32 the other thing I'm like so we we dig into it and it turns out that we have
71:38 basically the TV in the back of the NC
71:41 Tech tip set running off of a 30 amp breaker and then we have a 15 amp
71:46 breaker for all of our lights and test benches and everything else and the
71:49 servers and everything and everything so
71:53 that happens so the electrician's coming in to switch that around and then we had
71:56 to find another circuit we had to run a wire from there to run the server off of
72:00 in the meantime so it doesn't go down when the electrician comes in and
72:03 switches it around and then I had to we
72:07 I had to take out the 650 TI I had to
72:10 take out the 660ti that was in my Windows
72:15 Server um this is actually pretty funny
72:19 I'm going to show this someone says I found slick and it's uh like a me hold
72:25 on hold on hold on hold onol it's like a meme picture called
72:29 friend zone uh keep telling yourself it's better than demotivational poster
72:34 yeah it's whatever you're a demotivational poster it does kind of
72:38 look like you though actually does it yeah here hold your head above above
72:41 that guy I have to go like well now you're so
72:46 close yeah see now it totally looks like that's awesome I usually have short hair
72:51 though I just haven't gotten a haircut in like seven months yeah
72:58 do you want a beta key for Firefall uh I'm
73:02 okay I probably would never play yeah I don't really have much no time for MMO
73:07 you guys sorry man I appreciate it but it would probably be better spent on
73:10 someone else we appreciate it um do we have any other topics for tonight I'm
73:14 sure there was something the Far Cry 3 Benchmark video oh I want to know if
73:18 people are interested okay you talk about that I'll go see if I had any other notes okay so we're planning a
73:23 bunch of videos for like actually some of the cards are behind me
73:27 like what card for what card is best AMD
73:32 versus NVIDIA so we'll show like the best two cards under different price
73:36 points uh for Far Cry 3 so we're choosing three different price points
73:40 you guys will see the videos but um I had to set up the Benchmark for it and
73:45 it's kind of a fun Benchmark so what I want to do is show my methodology for
73:50 The Benchmark so it's if you played one of the uh if you've played Far Cry 3
73:54 it's one the trials and it's the one where you're driving in the Jeep and you
73:58 have to hit everyone you have to run over all the guys so what my methodology
74:02 is you drive around you drive up the thing you hit all the time barrels but
74:05 the plan is you don't hit any of the guys to make it consistent because it's
74:09 way easier to not hit the guys than it is to hit the guys so I was wondering if
74:13 you guys are interested in us posting a video of like lonus describing what the
74:19 Benchmark is about showing like me
74:24 getting into the game and then showing where where I start The Benchmark
74:27 starting The Benchmark going through the whole thing and ending it and then
74:30 lineus ending off the video if you guys would actually think that's interesting
74:34 content we've never shown our benchmarking methodology that deeply
74:39 before like we've never shown the actual run fully I don't think uh I think I've
74:43 done videos where the camera's over my shoulder over your shoulder and you're doing The Benchmark but we haven't like
74:47 properly shown the whole Benchmark in fraps like on the screen so you can see
74:51 it really clearly before and we'd like for you guys to be able to run it and
74:55 compare your own system so you can go okay what kind of performance do I get
74:58 versus if I was running a system like what they're running that's cool right
75:03 yeah and I think this would be really fun in his uh section of the Forum the
75:06 lonus whatever whatever ramblings section if he posts that video up and we
75:11 can show our results and then you guys can show all your results of your systems yeah that' be cool so everyone
75:16 yeah so everyone can see like okay if I get this system it will run Far Cry 3
75:20 this well and that's cool because compared to most like uh reviews or
75:24 whatever else where you have whatever their revieww system was you don't necessarily you
75:30 need more variety than that because the
75:33 way that you do a review is very different from the way that you look at
75:36 overall how does this game Run on a variety of of platforms because you tend
75:41 to do things like overball out the CPU
75:44 so that you can see the differences between all the graphics cards whereas
75:48 if we have people posting their configurations CPU GPU RAM um it's
75:53 probably the only thing that really matters uh CPU GPU RAM and frames per second
75:58 then that gives us a really clear picture of what which platforms it runs
76:02 best on and what affects the performance of that particular uh game yeah I did
76:07 have something that I forget now someone will post that sometime being like I
76:11 have a 3570k and a sabertooth with 8 gigs of RAM and then everyone will be
76:15 able to properly see what their system like whatever graphics card all right so
76:21 I uh I called the Bell customer service
76:26 quote uh buttheads unquote on the last
76:30 live stream and I would just like to say
76:33 that they have proven themselves to me
76:36 in in my in my eyes they have really gone above and beyond the Call of Duty
76:42 and they actually had did did I I don't
76:45 think I even told you this but the guy who called me to follow up on what was
76:50 going on so they tracked down my name and my phone number and called me and
76:55 they were like is this a good time to talk because our understanding is that
77:00 you may have had a negative experience with Bell customer service which I
77:04 should clarify it wasn't quite so much that it was a negative experience as
77:09 that it was a complicated and timec consuming experience they
77:14 um what I was doing was I was transferring the ownership of a cell
77:19 phone plan from a corporate account to a
77:22 personal account to a different small business account under someone
77:28 else's existing account so what I was
77:31 doing was extremely complicated on top
77:34 of that I was changing my plan and I was
77:37 trying to see if I qualified for a hardware upgrade and I was trying to get
77:41 a new phone so that's what was going on that's
77:46 why I was on the phone with Bell customer service for like an entire day
77:50 um they were more difficult than because people didn't really understand exactly
77:55 what I was trying to do and for their small business plans they're not just on
77:59 the website you can't actually do like a comparison so everything's verbal so
78:04 there's a lot of miscommunication whereas finally I just got in a car and
78:09 went to the Bell store and got someone
78:12 to pull out their cheat sheet that only they're allowed to see it says like
78:15 confidential everything all over the top of it and I was like look no one can
78:20 give me a clear idea of exactly what's in this plan so how about you look that
78:23 way for a minute I'm going to take a picture of this so that if there's ever
78:26 any debate about what my plan entails
78:29 we'll all know so so that that got done
78:33 and then they clarified everything and um I was just frustrated because it took
78:38 so long and I was also frustrated because because of what the existing
78:42 owner of the corporate account integrated my phone number had done
78:47 before I didn't qualify for a hardware upgrade even though I otherwise would
78:51 have so uh so that was where some of the miscommunication was there because they
78:55 had renewed my agreement when they moved it over to something else in some way so
79:01 that's why I didn't qualify for my Hardware upgrade so I was frustrated
79:04 about that as well but it wasn't actually Belle's fault in that case so
79:08 before you guys sort of go like oh lus is paid off by Bell I can tell you right
79:11 now I'm not I pay a Bell cell phone bill just like every other Bell customer uh
79:16 they did clarify a couple of things about my plan that I hadn't managed to
79:19 figure out until now um but they were
79:23 they were sort of deeply concerned that I had you know called because they
79:26 didn't say that I called them buttheads but they said that I might have had a
79:30 complaint and I couldn't actually remember even mentioning it in the live
79:33 stream it was slick who told me that in the live stream I had said something
79:38 about Belle so I had to go back and watch the AR time where I was like oh I
79:41 called them buttheads that's probably that's probably why they were upset so
79:45 our new plan is to call everyone buttheads yeah so we're going to start
79:49 with Intel Intel's a bunch of buttheads they're just all they're all buttheads
79:53 they're all buttheads but let's see if I get a call from oh right so the guy who
79:58 called me reports directly to the VP at Bell or AVP anyway we need to like
80:04 seriously call everyone buttheads so I need I'm expecting a call from Craig
80:09 Barrett himself at this point you know apologizing
80:13 for whatever whatever whatever Intel did
80:16 to wrong us blam you for making good CPUs yeah
80:22 what's your problem you make so many CPUs that like we can't find any other
80:26 things that are better to
80:30 buy so there so anyway uh yes I was
80:33 frustrated it was probably not very nice of me to call them buttheads because I
80:37 realize now that I sort of have a fair number of people watching so you know I
80:42 I'll be fair next time and I'll actually explain what happened and then I'll let
80:46 you guys decide if you think that the company in question is buttheads or if
80:50 they're not so there you go awesome a yeah that
80:56 was sort of awesome uh so let's do some Twitter Q&A and then I think we're
81:00 probably going to wrap it up a little bit early because I think we're both really tired do I speak for both of us
81:05 yes but gabri yes you'll have his babies I was talking about Gabriel's
81:10 comment go you're talking about babies bring up marius's comment as well and
81:13 yes we love pure Android compared to anything
81:16 else pure Android is like everything else should be cleansed yeah no offense
81:22 to everyone else who tries to not do pure right I mean I love you guys
81:28 but no not really maybe a little bit in some games
81:32 but for the amount of extra power it's going to consume a 260 with a what did
81:37 you say 670 yeah that would almost slow it down no a 260 is way fast no slick
81:41 doesn't know what he's talking about for f x yeah trust me fys X only slows down
81:47 if you use like really old fail stuff like 9600 GT I run an 8,800 with a
81:53 460 which is a similar Gap and it slowed it
81:57 down okay it's not about the Gap no I
82:00 know I'm just yeah it's just about whether the card can do the phys GTX 260
82:04 is still a very capable
82:07 card watching from Norway at a land party go play games that's what I was
82:11 saying that's why I said go to Gabriel's oh yeah go play games
82:15 Gabriel I mean you can watch us too just make sure you have two monitors two yeah
82:19 or like a smartphone which most land parties don't allow unless you're at like a buddy's house no because you
82:23 could use um here you have to buy two seats this is what I used to do at uh at
82:27 land actually did you buy two seats no okay no no I didn't do that do I
82:32 honestly do you think I would pay for two of anything no but I was thinking
82:35 maybe a land party exactly so this is what I used to do if I wanted to have
82:40 some kind of content that I was listening to at the same time I'd get open earbuds so not in not imem but like
82:46 just earbuds and then I'd wear my gaming headphones over top of them so that I
82:51 could listen to music but actually have
82:54 like my game sound not necess so so if I needed to get rid of them I could I
82:59 could take them out at a moment's notice that's sort of so you have your smartphone running the live stream here
83:04 and then uh so that would be on like the Wi-Fi network which they've probably got
83:07 segregated and qos out the yinyang and then uh you could have everything else
83:12 sort of running off of your wired connection what are some games you're
83:15 looking forward to in 2013 I'm looking forward to the Star Citizen
83:20 Alpha yeah and that's about it Star Citizen uh
83:25 oh what is it called planetary Planet
83:28 Planetary Annihilation Planetary Annihilation looks sweet does it yeah SS
83:33 it's an RTS game but you can like expand to the moon and then like shoot like oh
83:39 you can grab asteroids and strap Rockets to the asteroids and bomb your enemy's
83:43 base with asteroids so basically it's civilization except after you make the
83:47 spaceship there game freaking awesome and like you can fight people with like
83:53 planetary object X which is just sweet
83:57 it brings back to the like '90s level of just awesome just like doesn't make any
84:01 sense but sweet I remain skeptical I think it's going to be awesome it's
84:05 Kickstarter game look it up my 660 keeps crashing usually happens during a visual
84:09 glitch and comes back in like 4 seconds could be a power issue um could be an
84:13 overall system stability issue may not actually be directly related uh neither
84:18 neither of those are neither of those are good Solutions uh what graphics card would
84:23 you recommend for intense video editing on Adobe software any Cuda capable card
84:27 particularly a Quadro Far Cry 3 bench go got it you
84:32 still planning on Switching the form software due to all the glitches no no
84:36 we're going to stick with v bullets and five there are some issues but uh by and
84:40 large it it works works there's a lot of
84:43 like okay another bajillion showed out to Mr Wizard and the rest of the mod
84:48 team um but sorry rest of the mod team
84:51 mainly Mr Wizard we've been like fighting
84:54 V Buon 5 to make this thing work um
84:58 there have been an incredible amount of problems but we've also made an
85:02 incredible amount of progress it's fairly stable right now most the out
85:06 outages that you see is because like we were running it in a horrible ghetto
85:11 state with like Hardware that shouldn't have been in there and stuff so today there was some oages that had to do with
85:15 power and me moving it across the room and to where it should stay for should
85:19 stay forever and like we're still working on the permanent solution we and
85:22 we got their new firewall so had to go down while the new firewall was
85:25 installed but it's like $1,300 firewall so like Yay like we're bye-bye DS yeah
85:33 hopefully they can still happen we're we're we're moving forward we're working
85:37 on things this isn't a huge budget project so we're trying to like yeah you
85:42 got to throw that in hey well I'm not I'm not giving him the budget for rack
85:45 space is basically what he's he's not giving me the budget for any external
85:48 hosting well we could have done external hosting if it was like that website
85:52 hosting plan that included like no St
85:55 like how many five gigs of storage or something no what was it for the
85:58 database you were allowed to have as many databases as you want but they
86:01 couldn't be more than like 10 BS or something or one gig yeah and that was
86:05 the biggest plan that was like pretty expensive and he wasn't stoked about and
86:08 then we had like five gigs of hard drive storage and like 512 megabytes of RAM
86:13 which not going to fly I mean oh for context the server has 48 gigs of RAM so
86:18 it's caching a lot of the pages in RAM rather than actually running off of the
86:22 256 gig SSD that's in there falling back
86:26 to the 1 tbte re4 Enterprise level raid
86:31 one that is basically backing up everything what we did have budget for
86:35 was computer hardware yeah we had budget for that yes
86:39 because we had it but like H there's a
86:43 lot of stuff that still has to get in place one thing that I'm planning on doing and I've seen posts about this is
86:47 rolling out ads on that right side under the thank you NCI label which is like
86:52 just void space right now there was a poll someone put up a poll asking really
86:57 some dude on the form put up a poll being like we should do this because they're thinking to help with the
87:00 charity drive okay which it would alleviate costs so it would well that
87:05 doesn't necessarily contribute in any way to the charity drive the charity
87:08 drive is a different thing but it would help us guys make sure if you're not
87:12 doing it already just click the like button on all of our videos because if
87:16 we hit our Target for this month we're going to donate $250 to the charity of
87:21 your choice if you visit the Linus Tech tips Forum in the charity section uh go
87:25 there and then you have an option for a lot of different charities that we can
87:28 contribute it to it basically comes directly out of my pocket so which is I
87:32 think what the poll was about it was about just helping you in general not necessarily it was a thanks for the
87:37 charity I'm okay I know but I'm just they're trying to be nice so they said
87:41 do you want to put that there and people either said yeah do it or I don't really
87:46 care okay no one actually said no so if the form was ad supported apparently
87:50 people don't really get bothered by that no they don't want moving ads okay they
87:55 don't want flashing like crazy stuff they want like stable kind of normal
88:00 looking images so basically they want the ads that they can
88:03 ignore no I think they want the ads that aren't like there's a difference there's
88:08 a big difference you know which one used to drive me crazy the one where it was
88:12 uh it was an ad for some Smiley package and the guy says say something do you
88:17 remember that one ridiculous and the other one that I
88:20 hate is the one where it's like move your mouse to like punch punch George
88:24 Bush or whatever it is because I always just want to do it I want to on but you
88:28 have to hit usually it's like a Target you have to hit it like three times or
88:31 something so I'll do it like twice um yes so we'll probably be
88:37 rolling out ads not crazy ones I think they just don't want that like attack
88:40 your face right but we'll we'll put like at least fairly passive ads we'll put it
88:45 on the right side and we'll try and alleviate some of that cost uh 2400
88:48 people watching tonight so it's a little slower than some other weeks but uh it
88:51 is what it is and we're glad that you guys are tuned in we appreciate it 2440
88:56 we care about those 40 apparently his e4200 V2 slowed down his internet that
89:02 uh is probably something else or like
89:06 legendarily broken uh Sean why do I hate consoles
89:10 two words and I will illustrate these words although I'm stoked for the new
89:15 PlayStation new Xbox because it'll push ported games to be better okay that yes
89:19 but okay oh okay well then more than two words keyboard and mouse are words one
89:23 and to and then the other things are holding back game development the only
89:30 reason we don't have games that have real time calculations and physics as
89:35 part of the core gameplay are because they have to Port it to consoles so
89:41 there that's why consoles bother me I don't hate consoles he's like think
89:45 about it NVIDIA Shield is using a controller good for that I won't play
89:50 Shooters on it I can tell you that right now racing games on conses racing games
89:55 yay um sports games yay I play
89:59 Assassin's Creed on the computer but I use an Xbox controller RPGs yay lots of
90:04 stuff is way better on Console compared to computer
90:08 um yeah not all RPGs are better on console for computer I think that flows
90:13 back on the RPG I'm thinking like Final Fantasy style way way way better console
90:19 like you play it with a controller like there's no reason you'd have to play it with a keyboard okay um
90:24 um let's jump back on consoles real quick as far as I've seen both of them
90:28 are coming out with eight gigs of RAM and eight cores okay so like oh yeah
90:33 right the Xbox uh whatever it's going to be called spec leak we didn't even talk
90:37 about play leaks too I heard that
90:40 there's no way that that happened at the same time no I think PlayStation leaked
90:44 earlier actually completely intentional like for them to both be around the same
90:48 time you know you got to imagine both around the same spec you you got to
90:52 imagine like Xbox EX and like PlayStation Executives sitting
90:56 around a table with like cigars and like playing cards and like discussing you
91:00 know the schedule on which they'll both leak things and then this and then
91:04 launch and like I'm you know I'm not
91:07 accusing them of actually doing that because that's not good that's collusion
91:11 or whatever it is but uh yeah I just you
91:14 you have like that image in your head when these things it's like when you
91:17 know AMD and Intel launch CPU platforms at like the same time or AMD and NVIDIA
91:23 launch new gpus at like the same time so
91:28 yeah uh what are some useful networking programs you
91:32 suggest um what what are you trying to do man Windows 8 yeah what are you
91:37 trying to do Post in the networking form
91:40 yeah in linch tips.com bened marking ideas epic got it all of my yes got it
91:46 okay put it two different videos probably not uh h110 coming out coming
91:51 very soon um it's different than the h100 because
91:56 it's more bigger what do I think about WD keyboards I think they're supposed to
92:01 be pretty good never had my hands on one personally I've also not personally used
92:04 one and also heard they're pretty good what are the best speakers for games and music for computer speakers just grab
92:08 some SP 2500s and be done with it have you tried I also like the the clips Pro
92:14 media yeah but that's the promedia 2.1 is nothing like
92:19 the promedia 5.1 Ultra was though yeah it has a weak sub compared to the SP
92:24 2500s okay I'd love to see the methodology awesome come on to Australia
92:29 no too hot 48 degrees CS that's
92:33 ridiculous is that even right no is it right I hope not yeah it's like
92:39 all desert down there basically isn't it and it's the opposite season Sim City
92:43 beta is awesome EA didn't kill that yet all right I heard I've heard opposite
92:48 really uh on Reddit there's a Sim City uh Reddit and people are freaking out
92:53 absolutely freaking out what's the keybo I haven't played it so I have no idea so
92:57 I'm not going against you I'm just saying I've heard opposite I think someone asks this every live stream what
93:02 is the keyboard I use on the live stream it is an AO KB 178
93:06 RT some games are not meant to be played with a controller yeah of course
93:11 not yeah uh would you recommend an fx8350 if you can leverage the course
93:17 okay apparently the leaked Xbox specs were faked all right I don't know man to
93:22 Washington how far from the border is ex uh depends where you are in Washington
93:26 Washington's a big state all right I think we're pretty much done for the
93:30 night good night everybody and thank you for tuning into the live stream and
93:34 don't forget to tune in to live streams featuring
93:41 me and you and me yeah you're here too
93:44 yeah you're fired apparently that joke
93:47 is apparently that joke is old now someone went like crazy defending me on
93:52 the Forum really I don't was like thanks bro didn't actually say anything but he
93:56 was like no stop you guys are jerks and I was like that's kind of cool I
94:01 appreciate it cool but they must know you're not actually fired yeah or are
94:05 you but no like it's I think it's not you that he's he was getting after it's
94:10 the crazy amount of threads where people say slick is fired on the Forum well you
94:15 were fired a crazy number of times so it makes sense I heard someone was trying
94:19 to actually keep track of how many times been fired I haven't seen that yeah no I
94:24 think it I I thought I saw like a tweet about it or something we got to try and
94:27 add offscreen fires then off screen that's gonna be tough because you get
94:31 fired a lot yeah he gets fired a lot I
94:34 mean today oh no yesterday that thing where you ran all of the benchmarks and
94:39 overclocked all okay okay so yeah embarrass okay if he's going to tell the
94:44 story about how I threw a USB drive at the server then I'm going to tell this
94:47 story so slick I would like for you to
94:51 actually tell me how many times you
94:54 think I told you to use a cloud storage
94:59 solution to log his maximum overclocks
95:03 on this entire table full of video cards and everything else I've ever
95:06 overclocked while working with you behind us okay that as well as his
95:11 results for the Far Cry 3 benchmarks he ran for six different cards so this was
95:16 probably like four or five hours of testing finding maximum overclocks using
95:20 crisis which is a good stress tester and then um and then running benchmarks on
95:24 Far Cry 3 to uh and then making graphs
95:28 making nice tidy graphs that we can show you guys in a video that we're going to release soon how many times did I tell
95:33 you to save the files to cloud storage that day alone at least six okay and uh
95:39 how many cloud storage uh Services did you save them
95:43 to I saved part of them to one okay and
95:47 uh what were you saving them to Google
95:51 Drive no no what oh oh oh oh what they they were all on was a patriot flash
95:55 drive okay what happened to that flash drive I was trying to preper video for
95:59 True Crypt didn't realize it was still in the machine and went to encrypt a
96:02 flash drive encrypted the wrong one and erased everything so so I go I go so I
96:08 go to his workstation and I'm like slick
96:12 what are you doing are you finished the benchmarks he's like yeah I'm finished
96:18 but it's all gone and he's trying to use a data recovery program to get the files
96:24 back did that work how hard did I rub that you know I
96:28 don't think I actually fired you cuz I think I basically said something like
96:32 that's your training budget he came over to where I was and I'm sitting there and
96:36 like never put the hood up on my sweater he's like he's like B okay if he if he
96:40 was if he it was warmer he'd have been sweating like how hard he was working at
96:46 this oh I ended up running like three different data recovery programs and
96:50 like oh I was not happy that was was not
96:54 a good time so I was just like what did we
96:57 learn okay and the funny thing too is I'm writing him about it now but the
97:01 only reason that I gave him such a hard time about this was that I have done it
97:06 over and over and over again there's a reason that I harp on redundancy and
97:12 there's a reason that I harp on backups there's a reason I have a raid six
97:16 server in my house and an offsite raid five that it backs up to every night
97:21 because I hate losing data and I've lost a a lot of it the kicker that you don't
97:24 know about is that drive I have been backing up because I knew it was
97:28 important so I had everything from before the Far Cry 3 benchmarks on it
97:33 and I had all of that I had just finished moving to drive so everything
97:39 that didn't matter was was backed up to
97:42 my personal PC and backed up to Google Drive and everything that currently
97:47 mattered disappeared so so guys there's the lesson for you cloud is good uh
97:53 backups in general are good um
97:57 accidentally formatting things is bad not good so I you know what I think I
98:01 said earlier that I'd never lost my music library that's not true I did lose
98:04 it once I lost my music library and my entire photo library once when I was
98:09 like I must have been grade 10 so when I
98:12 was about 15 16 and what happened it was an accidental format and I found a tool
98:18 that recovered some of my pictures my problem is it wasn't a hard disk it was
98:22 a flash drive even then like accidentally formatting a volume though
98:26 oh yeah so that was actually the way that I've lost data in the past has
98:30 never been physical drive failure because I've always used raid I've had
98:35 one physical drive failure um this was when I was first I think I've told you
98:38 about this first moving to my mineral L PC in the middle of building my mineral
98:43 o PC and okay um like the hard drive in
98:46 my mineral L PC sorry there's a piece of hair right in front of my face
98:50 it's is it gone I can't see any anymore
98:53 good enough for me go away the hard
98:57 drive for my mineral PC sat in like the
99:00 the lid on top so the very last thing you do when you're done building my
99:05 design is you put it on the top plug SATA plug SATA top it you're done that's
99:10 the last thing in the whole build so I'm done my hands are covered in mineral oil
99:15 and I go pick up my hard drive you see what's happening I'm
99:20 really tired this build has taken me like 12 hours it's like three or four in
99:23 the morning because I didn't realize how long it would take I pick up the drive and like all my stuff that I was using
99:28 was on one table and the machines on the other table so I pick up my drive and I
99:33 go to walk over to the other table it's just like right out of my hands because
99:36 mineral oil is so slippery and the side of a hard drive is just like metal like
99:41 very smooth metal so I plug it up just and I see it just hit the ground and I
99:45 didn't even pick it up I was just like nope I have a new drive here I'm just
99:50 going to put that in game over man came over like I know that's dead there's no
99:55 point I ended up plugging it in like a month later it's
99:58 like like okay I think the only hard drive that I ever killed by dropping it
100:03 was my old one tbte external 2 and 1 12
100:07 in drive that had that awesome custom form factor like super thick 2 and 1/2
100:12 inch Drive I don't even remember where I got that thing from but it was a beast
100:16 it was some custom Seagate thing that I don't think many people bought them
100:20 because it was really uncommon and I was moving a test bench and I used to keep
100:26 the drive not on like a grippy pad the way that I do now so it was just on top
100:30 of an optical drive oh slid out
100:33 disconnected the wire hit the ground and
100:36 well the rest is history but it only had like games on it it was like Steam games
100:40 so I was still annoyed because it had a lot of like Steam games and I was in the
100:45 middle of bench marking the 6870 video
100:50 the one on the wall of Legend and so that video oh that was one of my most
100:54 frustrating videos ever anyway you know what we run over time good night everybody and we'll see you next week
100:59 same bat Time same bat Channel and until we move it and then it will be a
101:03 different bat time on it well the same bat
101:06 Channel there are no bats
