0:02 welcome to the live stream guys we've got a ton of cool topics tonight
0:07 including uh I don't know what are our topics tonight I have a thing with
0:12 topics but we've we've got some blackberry juice
0:16 we've got um we've got one of the most incendiary things I think I've ever
0:20 heard which is apparently some game developers are running around saying the
0:24 PlayStation 4 will outperform PCS for years to come which app he doesn't
0:28 understand anything about performance or hardware at all about anything although
0:33 although uh it's funny because this was going to be one of our featured news
0:38 items from the Linus Tech tips forum and I have to like the guy who who posted
0:43 this one I give him props for posting in our news section because that's great
0:47 and that is appreciated but he was a little bit sensationalist about his
0:51 headline so I will uh we we'll clarify that once we once we move into that so
0:56 why don't we start with something a little bit uh actually we've got a lot
1:02 of crazy stuff to talk about we're going to talk about your Windows 8 downgrade
1:07 uh we're going to talk about how I'm actually not going to be moving to
1:10 Windows 8 on my personal rig I hope that
1:14 uh Twitter managed to where the heck is the where's the uh the here it is I got
1:20 it I got it I got it it's always behind you just always assume that it's behind
1:23 you NOP I refuse to do that that is clearly Incorrect and a bad thing that I
1:28 will not be doing at all always behind you oh did I leave the twitch stream on
1:31 they came from behind yes oh yeah we'll be talking
1:37 Starcraft Heart of the Swarm because we have an actual gamer on the show this
1:41 week him they fit that in there by the way in the campaign there's a they came
1:45 from behind yeah I was so stoked oh I love that so stoked when I heard it they
1:50 also fit a Wilhelm scream into the trailer oh no way yeah a marine gets
1:54 stepped on or I can't I can't do the willhelm
1:58 scream hold on oh a no it's like
2:02 impossible to recreate it's awesome though if you don't know what will Helm
2:05 scream is YouTube it not now because it's in like every movie ever yeah
2:10 especially Star Wars anything to do with Lucas Arts every Star War every Luca
2:14 every Indiana Jones every Star Wars video video movie movie we make videos
2:20 George Lucas makes movies or at least he did in the 70s and
2:25 80s and you could argue he made they
2:29 don't count those are videos oh that's okay I'm not going to get into
2:33 original trilogy versus new Trilogy that would be an interesting live topic
2:37 though uh we're going to talk batteries we're going to talk about oh okay so
2:41 this is this okay here let's kick it off so the we've only got 20 oh okay the
2:46 viewers are going up a little bit I'm just a little bit confused because I I'm
2:49 never quite sure if the live stream starting now thing do you have to
2:54 actually specifically announce on Twitch that you're
2:57 streaming because I think there's like an announce button but I don't know how
3:02 exactly that works you know what I'm not going to worry about it too much have no
3:06 idea a few people said NOP or not really not really okay I got to get on this
3:11 stream chat so let's uh let's get started with the belon link linkx
3:15 acquisition is pretty much done so I got an email from my lyx contact today
3:20 saying that his email is changing from his name at cisco.com to his name at I
3:27 think I think it's going to be a linkis email now so Belin has come out and said
3:31 okay we're keeping the two different uh streams of products separate so product
3:37 development is still going to be separate um product uh branding is still
3:41 going to be separate okay so when Cisco did the linkis acquisition in fact if I
3:45 could find a Cisco I see I called it a Cisco router if I could find a linkis
3:50 router lying around here somewhere I'd be able to show you they actually say Cisco right on the top yeah in
3:55 fact that's what happened when lynis
3:59 asked us to change cuz we originally oh
4:02 yeah had our CES content branded Cisco because we couldn't find the linkis
4:06 brand in use anywhere they probably already knew that
4:11 it was coming soon so they were like oh yeah we saw your first video and we'd
4:15 actually uh we'd really like you to change that to a linkis
4:20 brand and stuff call taking that out someone
4:25 complaining about it uh might have been audible no I heard it anyway so uh so
4:30 yeah that's probably what happened there so anyway they're going to keep them separate and it's going to be pretty
4:35 much business as usual for lynus as a
4:38 separate good though I think so too because there's nothing wrong with the
4:41 product no like we actually we did some
4:44 really interesting testing with the EA was it the 42 or the 45 45 45 versus the
4:49 N900 uh versus the N900 from WD and we
4:53 found that without any optimization or tweaking of the qos at all it was just
4:57 such a beast for very heavy Network like we did we did crazier stuff that we do
5:02 on that Network like ever that was
5:06 probably the hardest load we ever put on it and multiple Netflix streams a Skype
5:10 call a game stream um and torrenting and
5:14 torrenting yeah and we had like six or seven computers going so it was like
5:18 crazy and it was like a lot of Torrance because we were pushing back and forth from school yeah so even things like the
5:23 website are going to stay the same so you're not going to actually not I mean
5:27 I don't think someone like Belin acquiring a very strong networking brand
5:33 like linkis really wants to mess with it too much whereas with Cisco where they
5:37 have that more premium branding I can understand why they'd want some trickle
5:41 down effect and it's like oh so it should be worth more of a premium because we're we're Cisco and honestly
5:46 like to most consumers they will probably have no
5:50 idea that the sale and acquisition even occurred and that's probably a good
5:54 thing yeah if they just nope nobody
5:57 knows and that's exactly what we want yeah absolutely Ely I think not many
6:00 people are watching yet so uh hopefully this has blasted on Twitter or Y there
6:06 it is live stream starting now I see it so hopefully people uh tune in pretty
6:10 quickly here because otherwise it's just us and our 400 most loyal viewers
6:15 whatever man thank you guys for apparently planning your lives around
6:19 being here to watch us live on our Friday night when we could otherwise be
6:23 dating attractive women or or eating bacon or eating yeah slick I actually
6:28 haven't even had one LT sandwich and
6:31 it's not even going to be hot by the time I eat it it's already not yeah oh
6:36 even mine was like room so so disappoint
6:40 all right so I don't remember what hot Keys we use for um for switching scenes
6:46 anymore is it like Shi fys is it f
6:50 Keys oh yeah there we go yay Twitter okay so it's 2 a.m. in Argentina thank
6:55 you for tuning in can you do live stream at a sensible time for us British
7:00 European types we will change it eventually yeah the plan is to change it
7:04 the plan is to change it probably time and probably day not probably day I
7:10 don't want to do it on Friday nights I I don't think most people want to do it on Friday nights because most people like
7:15 even if you're not going out you're probably wanting to game with your buds
7:19 so like I want to game with my buds I'm
7:22 pretty sure they want to game with their buds yeah I'm pretty sure they want to game with their buds too someone's
7:26 asking uh where happened to the Acer laptop oh it's still here slicks on my
7:30 old MSI um like sort of gaming ready
7:33 model that I try not to use cuz man it's heavy but it's kind of awesome because
7:37 it's like quad core and stuff but uh there we go let's go ahead and go back
7:41 to our can you please do a video on the
7:44 his 7970 GHz Edition 3 gig what do you
7:47 think of this GPU I think it's a 7970 GHz Edition and I think it has 3 gigs of
7:53 RAM and I think his put their sticker on it that's what I think bam does it were
7:59 you that Google has control over your job with AdSense have you thought of
8:02 setting a paid subscription for your site there is no way we are implementing
8:06 any kind of paid subscription for our content bye-bye every single viewer we
8:11 have yeah I mean we love you guys and we know that you love us too but we're
8:15 pretty sure that we we're all like nope
8:19 premium content $5 monthly subscription you guys are going to be like yeah I'll
8:23 just go watch someone else's unboxing video so um I mean we think we make good
8:28 content and all that good stuff but for us I mean our value ad that will allow
8:33 us to no longer give Google complete control over our livelihoods is our
8:38 audience and if we alienate the audience then like we suck and on that note a
8:44 word from our sponsor Intel for the live stream what a great Segway see I'm
8:49 getting good at this right I don't like
9:01 black okay we're going to figure out how to play back the sponsor thing in a
9:04 moment here I'm not quite sure what happened there uh it used to just play
9:08 automatically okay give us a moment to give you a word from our sponsors
9:33 this video is brought to you by our trusted partner Intel for a limited time
9:37 only with the purchase of any unlocked Core I5 or core i7 Intel CPU get a free
9:41 Intel beanie with a chance to win an Intel snowboard valid for Canadian and
9:45 US customers only some restrictions apply for complete details visit Intel
9:49 gaming promo.com going to reset my so the great
9:54 news guys is that it's mid-march which means we're only going to have the Intel
9:58 snowboard promo running for about another two weeks um and I know some of
10:02 you might not want to see it anymore hey we have another sponsor So speaking of
10:06 sponsors and not relying on Google forever that's a big part of the reason
10:11 why we did two things so number one is we're reaching out and getting sponsors
10:15 like sponsors that we trust that we actually use so if you go you know line
10:20 us what CPU you using in your computer I'm using an Intel CPU like at the same
10:26 time and I've been using it for years not because because Intel sponsoring
10:30 Tech tips at the same time we're not hating on AMD and at the same time we're
10:34 not hating on AMD in fact AMD particularly on the GPU side has been
10:38 getting a lot of love Lately from us check out the what was the most recent
10:42 one we did I think I'm of what's released okay Battlefield 3 yeah they
10:47 won Battlefield 3 they won I think they've won every single GPU Showdown so
10:51 far I think they won all of them and then like tied one or something yeah I
10:54 think uh Battlefield 3 was more more of a tie and then Crisis 3 Ste red but
11:00 still the top two spots in Battlefield 3 if you look at the overall chart which
11:04 is poked in at the End by a little bit cuz there isn't really a good vocal
11:07 segue for me to Overlay the overall chart but it is there so if you guys are
11:11 watching the Battlefield 3 video go somewhere near the end and it just kind
11:14 of goes hello and then leaves after a little while but check it out that's
11:18 like the whole like all the cards on one big chart you can see the top two spots
11:22 are actually MD cards there you go um although we have a new sponsor so Cooler
11:26 Master particularly CM Storm game peripherals which I think both you and I
11:31 have been pretty raw raw raw about same
11:35 Factory is filco like you can't really that's all you really need to know you
11:38 can't even go that wrong I've got a quickfire TK upstairs that I use like
11:44 whenever whenever your ducky was dead whenever my ducky was dead yeah or when
11:49 I was swapping the key caps out of my ducky or like I bring it home if I go to
11:53 my parents host for weekend easier to travel with like it's yeah it's nice and
11:58 like it's pretty ruged too so cooler Master's on board now which we're really
12:02 excited about and in addition to that we also just signed with twitch.tv as a
12:06 YouTube Network so we won't have to rely on Google's ad sales anymore so twitch
12:12 is actually going to be responsible for filling our videos the like the regular
12:15 YouTube pre-rolls with hopefully more relevant ads which I think is important
12:21 um as well as hopefully you know not making us rely strictly on Google which
12:26 I mean even now we rely on Google in huge ways just for the infrastructure uh
12:31 delivering the videos to you guys they make all kinds of mistakes that honestly
12:35 cost us a lot of money and a lot of headache um not not delivering our
12:39 videos to our subscribers yeah subscription box I have um my personal
12:44 YouTube account gets like less than a quarter of the lion Tech tips uploads
12:49 I'm like what I should be getting all of
12:52 these very frustrating I mean there's that there's the fact that uh YouTube
12:57 screws up on things like we had a set to
13:00 private and it went public so we we accidentally broke embargo on the GTX
13:04 Titan launch which was not cool and they've had I mean that's been broken
13:08 for months at a time in the past to the point where it's just kind
13:13 of ridiculous so uh so yeah we still rely on them in a big way but we're not
13:16 going to rely on them for our livelihoods which is sort of exciting
13:21 well not entirely for our livelihoods we'll still rely on them yeah if anyone
13:25 from Google's watching we'd still love you please don't shut off our Channel
13:30 Don't Close Our Channel yes we like our Channel um okay so let's talk Galaxy S4
13:38 actually you know what no let's go to let's go to Twitter for for a little bit of Q&A here let's see what you guys have
13:44 to say about the show so far I'm just going to go ahead sorry if people notice
13:47 that I'm looking down a lot I'm trying to get on Twitch but I can't log into my
13:51 account so I'm oh I'm on Twitch over here yeah but I want to be able to
13:55 monitor it here yeah okay we should just be monitoring it we should be monitoring
13:58 the chat at all s because you guys notice when anything's wrong right away
14:01 which is good uh Johnny blae says you should try the new BlackBerry Zed 10
14:05 when you're done with the HTC1 I would love to if anyone from Blackberry is
14:09 watching we'd love to hear from you we'd love to have an opportunity to try it
14:12 out I mean it's funny because we've said
14:15 that enough times like kind of joking but then there was that guy from Belle
14:19 who watched and we called them we said that their customer support with butt
14:22 heads so he called us and fixed it like fixed everything everything's perfect
14:26 now and then um we called though rul sud
14:31 y formerly a voodoo who apparently left a comment on our video um because we
14:35 said that we weren't sure if any of the solid gold cases is sold yes and he was
14:39 like yes we sold at least one $50,000 for that gold case which is just
14:45 unbelievable um and you know what's what uh I checked it is him I had Josh follow
14:52 up with him and find out if it was actually him and it actually was Raul if
14:55 you're wondering where that comment came from on YouTube you can just set whatever name you want
14:59 we hadama com I'm like I'm
15:04 pretty prry has uh some other videos to
15:08 watch that are not related to technology and whatnot pretty sure if he wanted a
15:13 really good computer he would just kind of have a really good computer do you think the 7970 is better for Battlefield
15:18 3 Call of Duty and Tomb Raider you know what we have to do Tomb Raider yeah I
15:22 want to wait I want to wait till driver optim optimization I don't want to do
15:26 too many beta drivers anymore because all the weird stuff that in a couple
15:29 weeks so what we're going to do is we're going to wait till AMD and NVIDIA both
15:34 drop pretty good driver optimization revisions okay then I'll run all the
15:39 test test benches for that bench benchmarks not test benches yeah um run
15:43 all run it on all the test benches every test bench we have U I'll run all the
15:48 benchmarks for that and then we'll release a video on that right away and then you'll have your BF3 and Tomb
15:53 Raider did he mention another game uh Battlefield 3 Cod and Tomb Raider so I
15:57 mean Cod runs on like an atar I wouldn't worry about it man you're probably fine
16:01 yeah it's probably okay just don't stress don't stress Jason it's cool all
16:06 right speaking of which someone asked for a shout out to a Jason but a different Jason slick could you tell us
16:10 about your personal rig maybe we'll cover that when we talk about your Windows 8 downgrade right someone asks
16:15 is Razer really that bad because from what I hear in the Internet it's the
16:19 worst branding in the world no I don't think that's true at all I mean like any
16:22 company not every product is perfect but I mean the um orb weaver is by far the
16:30 best game pad that we've ever encountered uh what was the name of that
16:34 uh that controller the Sabertooth the one we saw
16:38 at CES it's not tournament ready or is it tournament ready and the other one's
16:42 not tournament ready oh that I don't remember it's either the previous razor
16:47 the or Xbox controll I think it's no orca's a headset I know the one you Anza
16:52 onza yeah um it's I can't remember if it was the Anza or the new saber tooth well
16:57 the new one has those button on the bottom but they're removable are they
17:00 not oh no and they're not macro ready right so the new one is tourament ready
17:05 one right cuz you can't rebind all the buttons all over the place yeah so I
17:09 mean and the build quality of it was outstanding especially compared to the
17:13 to the older one which wasn't as good I mean that black widow ultimate is a very
17:18 solid mechanical keyboard I mean guys I
17:21 guess oh yeah and the blade the blade is
17:24 probably right up there with guys like apple in terms of the build quality of
17:27 that notebook All I'm gonna say I've owned two razor leosa or
17:34 leus neither of them work okay so I
17:38 think it's a mi mixed bag when you have people that have a bad experience then
17:42 they're much more likely to talk about that than a good experience that's also
17:46 very true and talking from my NC
17:49 experience where I know what the sales numbers look like I can tell you right
17:53 now if you see five complaints about Razer compared to some other gaming
17:58 brand it might have something to do with the fact that they're selling five times
18:02 more than them or more right so that's
18:06 definitely a very valid and very large point I mean it was like that with ocz
18:10 and ssds for the longest time where people like all the complaints I see
18:13 about ssds are ocz well yeah all the ssds that are selling are ocz so what do
18:18 you want me to say like yeah whatever
18:21 man uh okay so let's go back I'm working on a prodigy build what does your wife
18:25 think about you using the living room as a workshop for your personal rake I actually am not anymore my personal rig
18:30 is almost done I'm working on a prodigy
18:33 build I thought you finished well I still have to my uh the power adapter I
18:37 made myself I made a left angle power adapter for my optical drive but I used
18:41 wires that were too thin and they didn't bite into the thing enough so I have to
18:45 replace that I have to fix the extension wire I was using for my four fans on the
18:49 bottom cuz it like broke or something decrep it somehow I have to remount the
18:55 top LED strip because the included adhesive with the phobias is not holding
18:59 it in place so I'm going to use my double-sided velcro yeah and then I have
19:02 to figure out how to bleed that Bloody T Virus so pretty close was it not it's
19:08 getting there but I'm thinking if I stick like something in there and just kind of swirl it around that might help
19:12 you can do that then you got to take those caps off and that's not always the easiest no no it's easy with the fill
19:17 Port yeah you can just stick it through the fill Port I think it should be would
19:20 you get tied up in the uh maybe in the
19:23 Helix I don't know I haven't tried yet either way if you want to do shake this
19:27 is like totally has nothing to do with the stream I don't want to shake the computer but if you want to do Shake we
19:32 can lift it up and I can stabilize it you can shake oh I shudder to think
19:36 because there's enough things that just are broken enough about it um we're not
19:39 going to talk about bit torrent on the show we like to keep things clean but
19:43 feel free to talk about bit torrant somewhere else uh thoughts on El joining
19:47 the new egg crew I think it's I think it's a huge benefit for the new egg TV
19:52 guys I mean he brings with him an enormous audience yeah he's he's got his
19:57 crew basically like he's got all the guys that are going to follow him which is he's been around forever I mean you
20:02 look at how quickly Tech of Tomorrow grew when he departed from motherboards
20:06 org and channel pro it's going to be interesting departing from
20:10 motherboards.org channelpro going to check of tomorrow which he was already
20:14 kind of he was already kind of running on his own but like boosting it up and
20:18 then ditch boost up he may I I don't
20:21 know what his plan is I haven't talked to him he may maintain it because I know
20:25 Kyle and Paul at least have their own channels do awesome sauce news and
20:30 Paul's Hardware if you guys want to check them out Paul did a really good video review of the leonitis 30in IPS uh
20:37 monitor that's available for like 600 700 bucks on eBay yeah um so guys check
20:42 out his video of that if you're looking at a large format display which it
20:45 happens I am because mine's broken
20:48 now if you want the story on that because he probably doesn't want to
20:51 reiterate it personal build personal rig update 15 has the it's pretty much the
20:56 most depressing video I think either of us have ever filmed
21:01 yeah yeah oh spring break is it spring
21:04 break yes it's been so long since I've been in school I don't even think about
21:08 it anymore maybe that's why no one's watching Linus please enable 240p
21:12 viewing option I have no idea how to enable or
21:16 disable different viewing options I think that's handled by twitch we stream
21:20 at 1080p but I believe you can downscale it to whatever you want yeah I have no
21:23 idea how to do that no
21:27 idea um all right so let's move into our
21:31 next discussion topic should we just let's just let's just hit the Galaxy S4
21:35 now shall we boom so we cheated a little bit in our teaser video for the live
21:40 stream where we said we had a Galaxy S4
21:43 but actually we don't this is just a Galaxy S3 which should give you guys
21:47 some idea of how different we think the S4 is from the S3 if you look at the
21:51 front of the S4 the camera and these two
21:55 little LEDs go slightly more vertical
21:58 and this little indicator LED is now visible just like these ones no goes
22:03 slight more hold on slow down slow down you're blowing my mind man it's visible
22:08 you can see it's got the black ring just like the other ones it goes slightly
22:11 more vertical and it comes all the way over here to go right beside the speaker
22:17 no way hold on beside the speaker fan freaking tastic Game Changer I don't
22:21 even know who could have possibly thought about that the button is like
22:25 slightly more squared off hold on there's a
22:29 button one button one button you can't
22:32 put more than one button okay although with that said the HTC1 does not have a
22:37 button I don't know if you noticed that I did there is no middle button there's
22:40 an HTC I'm not sure what to think because
22:44 you I you double tap home to get to your recent apps which is fine which is fine
22:49 I'm okay with a double tap it's fast and the haptic feedback on this thing is
22:53 outstanding okay holy crap let's stay focused on S4 focused on S4 okay okay
22:58 physical changes carry on take it off and show what the inside different is
23:03 okay so here I'll hold this one so the back from here all the way up to there
23:09 is pretty much the same okay and then
23:13 the flashlight Goes Down Under the camera
23:17 and this disappears okay and that is innovation
23:22 and it's do you have the specs up on your computer I can get it up in a
23:25 moment get the full specs up cuz I'm going to start I'm going to talk about
23:29 sort of the the philosophy behind what might have driven Samsung to go with a a
23:35 very similar to Galaxy S3 design so no
23:39 matter how much I rag on it it does kind of make sense yeah it kind of makes sense okay cuz when you looked at Galaxy
23:44 1 honestly it wasn't a great phone no my
23:47 wife has one it has not really served
23:50 her well no not I'm not going to rag on them
23:54 or anything but they knew it wasn't great Galaxy S2 came out pretty quick
23:59 and revamped everything it went Amed it
24:03 went uh way faster way faster it had a
24:07 way better screen it was just better in every possible way and they completely
24:11 reinvented it with the Galaxy S2 then Galaxy S3 came along and went okay we're
24:16 going to turn every take everything that was good about the S2 and keep it we're
24:19 going to go with a shape that's much nicer to hold did the screen get bigger
24:23 I don't remember I think so I think it did I can't I can't remember Galaxy S2
24:28 again though pretty sure it did didn't last that long and was replaced by a
24:31 phone that was significantly better in every possible way and replaced it now
24:36 Galaxy S3 hung around with us for a long time I mean this launched we did a video
24:42 back around uh around launch so that's going to give me some idea of when it
24:47 was but ncixcom
24:51 Galaxy someone's probably already uh oh
24:54 Galaxy video card eight months ago so so this launched almost a year ago like 9
24:59 10 months ago and here we are finally
25:02 Samsung's replacing it with the S4 which
25:07 is similar but remember this time they're
25:11 not replacing a phone that was fundamentally flawed in any way they're
25:14 replacing a phone that was that did
25:17 really well the number one selling smartphone yeah if you're
25:22 Samsung do you reinvent the wheel when the wheels spinning really
25:27 good one thing thing I brought up when we were origin talking this up yeah go
25:31 ahead um um sorry that was funny uh we were in
25:36 the car talking about it and I was like okay well if it's really similar form
25:40 factor and just like awesome sauce specs compared to before why don't they take
25:45 the Apple approach and just call it like
25:48 not an S because it's already s because of Samsung but like the Samsung GS X
25:56 right GS 3x or something like add another thing to the end because they're
26:00 not changing not really really changing the form factor of the phone not
26:04 changing stuff like that and then you I mean that's something apples gets away
26:09 with though because they've been doing it for so long yeah I mean you know what
26:12 an s means an s means an evolutionary
26:16 change um I mean they've done this with iPad as well where they don't even
26:20 Rebrand the damn thing anymore no they just go iPad IP with retina display so
26:26 you when you buy an iPad you're buying an IP ad unless it's an iPad 2 so there
26:29 was iPad iPad 2 and iPad yeah with Retina and I I mean maybe something like
26:35 that would have been appropriate here as a Galaxy S3 Uber Edition or like
26:39 whatever the brand like better branding than that but um but then branding
26:43 consolidation is a really really big deal and that brings this into play okay
26:47 let's talk about that later hold on I want to talk specs on this first so okay
26:51 okay so Samsung's either going to have um a what is it Snapdragon S600 is it
26:56 called S600 something something Snapdragon 600 something or other um so
27:01 that's going to be a 1.9 GHz quad core
27:04 which is pretty similar to the 1.7 GHz
27:08 uh uh Snapdragon 600 that's in the HTC1
27:11 a little bit faster although it has a beier battery 2600 milliamp hours
27:15 compared to 2300 or 2350 or something like that um but there's going to be
27:19 another version that's an octacore exus or whatever they call their thing uh
27:24 that's an octacore that has 4 A7 cores and 4 a15 cores now would go as far as
27:29 to say if their intention is to use
27:32 those four cores either for power saving or performance it's still kind of a quad
27:37 core can NVIDIA get away with calling Tegra 3 a five core cuz they kind of
27:42 tried it at first and then they backed off on it cuz they have that that low
27:45 power core and then the four performance on is that exactly how it's supposed to work switching for power saving my
27:51 understanding is that's how the octacore is supposed to work cuz come on you're not going to benefit from an octacore
27:56 like four equal cores and the Octor is clocked at 1.6 GHz so it's going to vary
28:01 depending on region what spec you get so the HTC1 by contrast you're going to get
28:05 the same spec regardless of region but there's six different versions
28:10 supporting different bands for different regions that makes sense but you get the
28:13 same CPU regardless um what else have they changed spec-wise so they've added
28:18 so it's a 5 in 1080P I keep holding this because for all intents ofp I'll hold
28:22 this far enough away that you can't tell uh it's a 5 in 1080P display Amed with
28:27 the room rumors were that the Amed uh production line wasn't ready yet and it
28:32 was going to be LCD but very exciting so you're going to get those deep deep rich
28:36 blacks power savings assuming you're not looking at really bright stuff all the
28:40 time that's really exciting um it's going to come with 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
28:45 ridiculous 12 megapixel camera 13 13 yeah 13 megapixel camera with two on the
28:51 front Cam and that leads us to another sort of comparison point between the
28:55 we're not even going to be able to talk about the one cuz we're blending it here
28:58 so HTC went for a bold departure from what
29:03 everyone very bold instead of a high megapixel rear camera they have a 4
29:07 megapixel rear camera hold on I'm G let that snc in for a moment there and you
29:12 know what's kind of stupid is I had all my notes for the
29:17 HTC um unboxing that we did earlier deleted them and I deleted them as we
29:21 went but you for undo I think I've got it they're calling it Ultra pixel Ultra
29:26 pixel camera sensor so this is is a 4 megapixel 3 in sensor with an f2.0 lens
29:31 and Optical image stabilization that they're saying because of the larger
29:36 pixels and the large sensors is actually able to capture more light and more
29:40 detail even though the resolution that will appear when you right click
29:44 properties resolution is actually lower
29:47 and you were dinking around with it a little bit in the car on the way back and it looks like and also based on
29:52 reviews that we're seeing of the phone that might be true it looks really good
29:55 more megapixels may not be the solution so anyway Samsung has a 13 megapixel
30:00 camera on this bad boy um it's available on a variety of
30:05 different internal storage configurations and it does have a micro
30:08 SD slot which the one does not that to me is so confusing the way HTC continues
30:14 to not Implement micro SD in their high-end phones I personally never
30:18 actually filled my iPhone 416 gig and you don't like but not everyone's like
30:22 me some people want more storage there's a spot like they could have put spot
30:27 right on the bottom there put a Micro SD slot there for crying out loud guys like
30:30 you can't take off the back okay you can't replace the battery okay okay make
30:36 an external plugin for it's a really small chip with that said the one only
30:40 comes in 32 gig and 64 gig configurations going to be big so I
30:44 would never manage to fill 30 I know that I actually will both of us won't I
30:48 stream video to myself over my data plan I have a pretty generous data plan so I
30:52 don't worry about it too much okay what else they got oh yeah so there you can
30:56 interact with the touch screen without quite touching it although I don't know how valuable that is uh it apparently
31:01 pauses video If You Look Away although their camera based eye tracking features
31:05 have never necessarily worked for everyone so I don't know about that uh s
31:12 Travel Trip Advisor oh they're adding some of the
31:16 cool features from the Galaxy camera which we shot an NC Tech tips of today
31:20 and is actually really cool yeah it's actually pretty awesome I just wish it
31:23 had a phone in it yeah okay we were talking about this the galaxy C camera
31:28 is running Android yes and Android Jelly Bean and we were thinking if you just
31:33 add like a speaker and a mic yeah it
31:37 supports it supports um it supports data
31:41 it supports data already with a micro SIM yeah yeah so if you're going to have
31:44 a plan for the stupid thing and you don't actually and and if you're one of
31:48 the I mean let's face it there are people out there who don't care about a
31:52 thin phone these people exist and the Galaxy camera is not that thick like
31:58 it's probably if I took look at all the Samsung product placement here Samsung
32:01 ssds like if you took sort of a phone and a couple ssds it's kind of like that
32:05 without the lens sticking out expand your storage today strap an SSD to your
32:09 phone I might be the kind of person who would actually say you know what for the
32:13 sake of having an awesome camera and video camera as a
32:16 vlogger maybe I don't care about a slim phone anymore if I'm going somewhere
32:20 I've got my backpack that's right would you actually mind putting your phone SL
32:26 camera in like a drink pouch or something on your
32:30 backpack you can play games on it it would be cool if it had the
32:34 functionality so that I could bounce my sim right or just get you can get a
32:39 supplementary Sim yeah or do something like that something like that if I could
32:43 share the plan that would be awesome like a self family plan for your camera
32:47 and your phone and your tablet or something and your notebook or something
32:50 like that yeah because there's sometimes that I'm going to go and I don't have my
32:53 bag cuz that's probably where we're headed and I see no reason why I
32:57 shouldn't be able to take a phone call on my notebook if I feel like it yeah or
33:01 on my camera if I feel like it why not and while everyone's talking about
33:05 everything getting smaller and stuff and like phones Getting Thinner cameras like
33:10 you need the sensor you need the lenses you need the distance you have to have
33:14 that distance while neither of us are actually experts on cameras we know
33:18 basic physics we know Diesel and we know Diesel and we knew this before we knew
33:23 dies yes that's true and making the pixels small enough to the point where
33:28 like uh like the the the I forget what it's called whatever this I don't know
33:33 light light wavelengths yeah where the light wavelength actually is not even
33:37 going to be able to hit yeah cuz if pixel's too small you're trying to go
33:40 into a box this big with wavelengths like this you're just oversampling so so
33:45 yeah that's that's an exciting departure what else we got from Samsung's phone so
33:49 they amped up the battery life they amped up the GPU in a big way much more
33:53 powerful should be much more competitive uh Samsung nox will be supported so if
33:57 you want to bring own device BYOD is a big Trend right now um so you'll have
34:01 like a safety spot vers like where your your uh your your work can um sort of
34:07 admit it for you and you can DPN and then you'll have like a consumer one
34:11 where your Facebook pictures aren't not going to be accessible to your office or
34:15 anything like that however Blackberry is moving their secure workstation over to
34:20 iOS and Android or secure workspace yeah secure workspace so maybe nox is coming
34:25 along at a time when it may not even even end up mattering although this is
34:29 interesting because in my opinion if Blackberry did this two maybe three
34:34 years ago I think they would be in a way better position because blackberry's
34:38 whole thing is workplace yep like it's
34:42 it's always been like they they are the business phone or at least they were
34:45 they were that's the problem a lot of people started moving their Blackberry
34:49 servers out and their Blackberry security and all that kind of stuff because people weren't using
34:52 blackberries anymore if Blackberry rolled this out so that people all
34:56 businesses kept their Blackberry infrastructure so your theory is that
35:00 then when Blackberry got competitive on Hardware again again they'd be instantly
35:05 easier to reintegrate everywhere right whereas if there's an infrastructure
35:10 change yeah because now people is a very
35:13 competitive phone oh yeah for sure um now people that ditched businesses that
35:17 ditched are going to have to if they want to roll out blackberries again go
35:21 back again and doing another change is going to be hard to push through
35:24 management and you look at how long iOS and Android were Superior to blackberry
35:30 and yet how long it took businesses to move away from Blackberry because it was
35:33 so good like how how how Superior you
35:37 have to be to drive someone to your solution versus how mediocre you can be
35:42 and Coast on it yeah it's ridiculous and
35:46 like at the same time it's not battle but I'm kind of rooting for them yeah I
35:50 want Blackberry to live I really want Blackberry live the Z 10's an awesome
35:53 phone I want to actually use one it's super light it's kind of like iPhone 5
35:56 light like just super I like
36:00 uh along those lines the S4 is getting lighter than the S3 and the HTC1 has
36:05 some heft to it with its like sexy uh
36:09 aluminum 200 minutes on a machine uh
36:12 shell that is just well it's like very premium compared to this was an
36:18 interesting one quick thing to add Blackberry I think if they still like
36:22 just to bounce back on this again if they still had their servers in place so
36:26 if they gave out their software what they could have done with the Z 10
36:29 release is say look now we have another awesome phone with some added features
36:33 for Blackberry secure workspace so they could have differentiated and been a
36:38 been a standardized platform which would have driven more sales anyways continue
36:43 right uh okay what else we got here uh S
36:46 Voice blah blah blah have we missed anything oh it has wireless wireless AC
36:50 although I have no idea what performance is going to be like because based on our
36:53 experience with like a USB AC adapter it probably won't be any different from in
36:57 it's that's my guess and like power power hungry I mean the actual full
37:03 performance AC Solutions we run into have heat sinks as big as a phone on
37:07 them a little bit bigger actually yeah so uh we don't have it here do we
37:11 available 1632 or 64 gigs with plus the
37:14 micro SD slot and I think that's pretty
37:18 much it so let's wrap up with some of the highlights of the HTC1 so this has
37:22 got the same uh the same Snapdragon 600
37:26 processor in it 2 gigs of RAM just like the S4 it's got that Ultra pixel camera
37:31 it's got the ability to take crap zo zo
37:34 Z zois is that zo or zo Z Zoe so it's a
37:39 four to five still frames at a time while recording 1080p video which is
37:43 very cool I think yeah and the idea is that you'll have kind of like little
37:48 talking talking Snippets uh like motion
37:51 Snippets kind of like uh like the newspapers and the portraits in Harry
37:54 Potter daily profit yeah like in the daily profit and I think it's it's
37:58 either going to be really neat or it's going to be kind of gimmicky and I won't
38:01 end up using it but I actually don't know it's not one of those things like
38:05 um where you you look at it and you're just like ah skip through this stuff
38:09 tell me the spec of this stupid thing because I don't care about these gimmicky features so I'm actually
38:12 willing to give that a shot um boom sound is a huge Innovation and that's
38:18 something that Samsung could have done front-facing speakers come on guys why
38:22 did this take so long every tablet and every smartphone from now on should have
38:26 front-facing speakers you can write me down as having said that because it
38:31 matters if you actually expect this to be a Content consumption device music
38:37 movies games all of them benefit from front-facing speakers because cupping
38:41 your hand around the back of a phone to hear it properly is stupid and all the
38:45 complaints I get from people and it's funny I get a lot of complaints about
38:49 the audio levels being too low which is why we boosted them up tonight uh people
38:52 are like oh I can't hear it because I'm on my phone and I'm like oh it's because
38:57 of your stupid crappy Ultrabook or phone
39:00 speaker that doesn't actually go loud enough and people who reply to those
39:03 people and say oh just turn your volume up they don't understand you guys are on
39:06 a phone not on like a desktop computer where you can just crank it up so we're
39:10 trying to get that addressed in recent videos and I hope we've done a pretty
39:13 good job of that so uh there's that they have an infrared emitter and uh receiver
39:18 built into the power button which I think is a really elegant way to do that so you can use it as a as a universal
39:24 remote and of course I mean the chassis just outstanding it's really easy to
39:28 hold in spite of the fact that it is 4.7 in and I do have small hands uh it goes
39:33 almost Ed to Edge and it is 1080p just like the S4 so this is
39:37 basically I guess it's also not out yet but I think it's going to be out first
39:41 it's basically like a higher end S4 and then slightly lower clocks much better
39:46 build quality right talking about release dates um Samsung S4 is I believe
39:52 April 20th um so coming soon exciting about a
39:57 month August no it is August it is no that's nope that's something completely
40:01 different okay so I don't know the release dates oh that was Saints Row
40:04 four by the way we don't know so forget
40:07 it we have no idea okay so the last bit about phones we're not going to talk
40:11 about phones anymore after this I don't think is that HTC's CMO actually came
40:17 out I don't think I told you this yet fight fight in words came out and said
40:21 Samsung's Galaxy S4 is quote unquote more of the
40:26 same whoa looking to grab some headlines there hey
40:30 boss that might be a good tactic for them right now that might be the way to
40:34 form of marketing sort of ride on the coattails of the Samsung marketing
40:38 engine which exists now for the mobile products so okay last thing last thing
40:42 actual last thing so guys for those of you who have been asking me to do an I
40:46 switched for Android I am doing it I'm going to be using the HTC1 as my Android
40:52 weapon of choice I'm done with Windows Phone 8 we'll be giving away the 8S soon
40:56 actually as well as a bunch of phones on the Forum uh soon uh hopefully next week I
41:03 guess think we can launch it it depends let's try and lach we're going we're
41:06 going to try and launch it next week um but yeah I'm going to do an Android eye
41:10 switch and if there's anyone from Blackberry watching please let me know and I'd love to do a Blackberry I
41:13 switched after that so I can give you guys that noobs perspective I've used
41:17 Android pretty extensively on tablet but I haven't used it much on a phone so
41:23 this should be this should be fun uh why don't we do a little bit of Twitter and
41:26 then let's move into your down unless you had something you really wanted to do uh no but considering we peeped at it
41:31 a second ago Saints Row 4 is announced I think this is one of if not the one of
41:36 the first games to be announced since the
41:40 THQ since THQ was dissolved people are asking me to do an os10 I switched yeah
41:45 Over My Dead Body you can quote me on that too yeah seriously um Saints R 4
41:50 release date August 20th in the states August 23rd in Europe oh awesome so I I
41:56 think that's the first game that has been announced since the since THQ was
42:01 dissolved I might be wrong so don't quote me on that but okay cool
42:05 yeah um blah blah blah blah blah blah
42:08 like first game announced that was a part of THQ
42:12 obviously can neither of you guys
42:15 recommend that what's that CM Storm Mouse we use at the
42:18 office spawn oh it's a spawn okay sorry I we haven't tried the Sentinel Advance
42:23 2 Mouse but the spawn is actually better way better than I thought it was nice
42:26 for really nice for claw yeah really nice claw tracks well tracks on a
42:29 variety of surfaces we've used it extensively now cuz it's hooked up to our display computer in the ncx tech tip
42:35 studio so um yeah let's move into I
42:38 don't see anything that interesting on Twitter so uh let's move on to your
42:43 downgrade so why don't you start can I actually just steal that sandwich from
42:47 you and then you can make a new one and I'm going to take a couple bites while you talk about your experience with
42:52 Windows 8 I'd like you to cover it from a number of different angles I actually
42:56 um Swit to my laptop just throw it on top
43:00 of there and I'm going to go now down on your sandwich here how long using for it
43:04 each how long using it for each yeah in
43:07 like each of those different scenarios so you used it on Notebook desktop and
43:11 you haven't really spent much time with it on touch but
43:14 Laptop touch okay I've spent basically a
43:17 completely negligible amount start with why you started on Windows 8 okay I
43:21 started on Windows 8 because uh my laptop was a development laptop and I
43:25 got Windows 8 from school so I was like Hey might as well do it so I started
43:30 with the developer preview um it was for a laptop though and all I really did on
43:34 that laptop was basic coding which is invi inside an environment so Windows 8
43:41 isn't really going to mess with that that much and then I was exporting that and testing it on other machines not my
43:46 own machine um and
43:49 then basic web browsing like I wasn't doing very much with that laptop at all
43:54 so didn't really get tons of usage out of that and that was not a touch screen
43:57 laptop you had some frustrations at the beginning like shutting down I okay I
44:01 had some frustrations a lot of frustrations shutting down I find
44:04 getting to the charms menu if you don't have like this is a touchcreen Windows 8
44:08 laptop that I'm on right now if you have a touchcreen you just swipe in and it
44:13 comes in very nicely and you swipe out and it goes out very nicely and that's
44:16 awesome if you don't have a touchcreen it sucks um that's mainly to do with when
44:21 it first came out I've noticed it got a little bit better but I still don't like
44:24 it I don't like putting my mouse there and like waiting
44:28 then having it just not come up and then I'm like guys I want to can I can I shut
44:34 down please and then Metro like or I
44:38 guess not Metro modern UI is that it's official name modern UI is not for me at
44:44 all I don't like it um again maybe a lot better for touchscreen almost definitely
44:49 a lot better for touchcreen but I'm not into it as a desktop user experience it
44:53 looks amazing it feels really good
44:57 but it takes too long like I'm I just
45:00 want to press Start type in my stuff and go for it that was resolved by uh
45:05 Windows 8 classic start which I downloaded through 9ite can I uh can I
45:09 chime in on Modern UI so one of the issues with modern UI and you look at
45:14 even other popular touchscreen interfaces like iOS and Android they are
45:19 very touchy very swipy but they don't actually get rid of the folder structure
45:25 yeah they still have it and it's still and that was one of the frustrations I
45:28 had with Windows Phone 8 and I think is similar to your frustration with modern
45:32 UI because if modern UI had tiles but
45:35 you could actually have sub tiles you probably would use it it would probably
45:39 be fine carry on that probably would not be a big deal at all um I'm kind of a
45:44 sucker for having cool backgrounds um so
45:47 I like seeing my desktop and I like having a clean desktop I always go uh
45:51 view don't show icons so I can have nice very very clean backgrounds even on my
45:56 phone the home screen of my phone is
45:59 completely blank
46:02 um if I can get past all these popups the home screen of my phone is
46:05 completely blank you can't really see very well right there but there's no icons except for the mandatory ones at
46:10 the bottom which I can probably get rid of if I ROM it with something weird but
46:13 it is not currently romed with something weird so there's mandatory icons on the
46:16 bottom um okay so those are like the
46:20 initial feelings with my laptop although
46:23 not a big deal and I just kind of left it there because that was not a high
46:26 usage laptop file copy is amazing I I'll go into that but I didn't
46:31 really do that way too much on my laptop anyways um then I'm like okay Windows 8
46:35 is released I have an official version I'm going to try and dive in because I I
46:39 had to reinstall uh my Windows 7 installation on my desktop was pretty
46:44 messed up and was probably going to stop booting pretty soon because of how
46:47 messed up it was that was my fault by the way um I'm not going to go way too
46:51 into it but yeah um I had to reinstall
46:55 so I was like okay I might as well dive in and try Windows 8 I've got everything
46:58 on my data drive anyways I'm just reinstalling an operating system and
47:02 basically ning my program so it's not really that big of a deal um Nite by the
47:06 way if you're wondering why I keep saying this weird word it's n i nit T
47:10 and then just that.com and you can go to the website it's really awesome way to
47:14 install a whole bucket full of programs that you usually install when you're
47:18 setting up a new computer anyways anyways okay so user experience
47:22 with my desktop a few random problems that I haven't seen a ton of people
47:26 complain about um but I know it's not my Hardware because I've tried it with
47:30 other installs with Windows 8 and another uh no I mean other installs with
47:34 Windows 7 sorry it's I get random screen
47:37 flickers where it will just like in about a quarter of a second
47:44 it'll just invert my screen and then flip it back and I'm like whoa what just
47:48 happened and then other times it'll just go completely black screen but only on
47:52 my main Monitor and it's not my driver I
47:56 re like like I've done tons of troubleshooting for it um then I've got
48:02 other problems like just just weird like
48:05 things won't really work very well like have a lot of problems with USB 3 um
48:09 really you had told me about that one I kind of got it working but like it's
48:13 still just like sometimes it won't detect things um and just like just
48:20 weird problems with that some games like I can't play crisis Warhead speaking of
48:25 games not being we played over here you
48:29 guys can kind of see it this test bench is I'm doing 8350 versus 3570k I've done
48:34 pretty much all actually yeah all of the Windows 7 testing that didn't take me
48:38 very long because everything worked and then I had to set up a new SSD I knew
48:43 everything with Windows 8 and the idea was we're going to do Windows 8 versus
48:46 Windows 7 we're going to do Windows 8 on its own we're going to do like like
48:50 we're going to try and do a whole bunch of stuff to add on to Logan's testing
48:54 with 3570k versus 8350 so I to do a whole bunch of scenarios that he may not
48:58 have done yet so we can just add to the discussion because that's a really interesting really good discussion um I
49:04 couldn't play Witcher 2 wouldn't play
49:07 Metro 2033 would not pull any save files
49:11 from the ice cuzy for who knows why um
49:16 Dirt 3 wouldn't play like all this stuff would not run at all so I tried
49:22 reinstalling just absolutely everything and I think I'm going to be
49:27 trying that again on Monday hopefully if I have some time I'll probably have some
49:31 time um so hopefully that will actually work this time and that's not my own
49:34 personal rig but that is something I've directly worked on so that is a personal
49:39 experience um ah what were some of the
49:42 other problems certain programs have weird permission requirements like for
49:47 steam to be able to run you need to run it as an administrator why it's steam
49:52 come on for xfire to be able to run on Startup it needs to be always run as an
49:59 administrator why why right like why
50:02 that's so weird and like a lot of these problems were like okay I guess I'll go
50:06 change that and allow this program to have administrator rights for whatever
50:10 reason um but it's just bizarre it wasn't that big of a deal but it was the
50:14 screen problems that I had which finally booted me off did we get into the bit
50:17 where we assumed Windows 7 and Windows 8 would have equal gaming performance
50:22 because they're based on the same kernel using the same driver pretty much wasn't
50:25 even going to talk about those numbers we can bring it up if you don't mind talking about it before the video yeah
50:29 well we're not let's not go into depth but guys we have a Windows 7 versus
50:32 Windows 8 using Intel and AMD I told
50:36 them set of gaming comparisons coming and we are seeing some pretty
50:41 interesting weird stuff 20% performance drops going from Windows 7 to Windows 8
50:45 and then sometimes where sometimes equal and then sometimes where there's a huge
50:49 drop but then that's without anti-aliasing and then I add
50:53 anti-aliasing and nothing changes for frame rates like exact same frame ratees
50:58 running these to replicate to see if we can replicate it and it's just like
51:02 Bizarro land kind of stuff and rerunning them like a lot more than I normally do
51:06 because I'm like no no no no this is weird so with all of that said I think
51:10 you and I can both still agree Windows 8 is optimal for a device like this it's
51:15 awesome for touch it's great for touch it's great for tablets it's awesome for
51:19 all that kind of stuff I mean if you want a mobile x86 platform so this is
51:23 the Iconia w700 we have an unboxing that's going to be uploaded soon
51:27 outstanding something like a touch notebook would you go Windows 7 or
51:30 Windows 8 um for most my use cases for a
51:33 notebook I'm not gaming whoa I totally missed that I'm not
51:39 gaming for most my use cases for a notebook so not gaming um web browsing
51:45 work in Excel work in PowerPoint work in word all that kind of stuff yeah yeah
51:50 honestly I love this notebook so much in fact I'll take it back from you now um
51:54 and Windows 8 is part of it the touch screen touch screen is one of those
51:57 things where people say oh I can scroll just as easily with my keyboard and
52:00 mouse you know what you don't necessarily want to sit with your hands on your computer while you read an
52:05 article so maybe you want to rest them and maybe it's faster to just go scroll
52:10 scroll scroll and sometimes the user experience of just being able to go uh
52:14 that or I want to do this and just like touch the things is kind of nice instead
52:19 of using these interfaces um so yeah
52:22 just to recap I don't hate Windows 8 I don't even dislike it it's just not
52:26 perfect for my desktop user experience I will probably stick with it on my laptop
52:31 um and I don't have a tablet so yeah so I probably won't be moving to Windows 8
52:35 on my desktop um I just installed Windows 7 last night on my personal rig
52:39 I had to reformat because of a an a situation where I accidentally unplugged
52:44 half of my RAID array uh while the computer was powered on and that doesn't
52:48 really work so well with raid zero yeah raid zero it's not a good thing um so
52:52 anyway I went Windows 7 partly because
52:55 of the gaming experience that we're having on the test band chair although I don't know how much of that could be
53:00 just we need to we need to do a lot more
53:03 we haven't replicated it on a second machine yet yeah do that as well so you
53:08 know take all that with a grain of salt um but aside from that spending some
53:13 more time with it on the notebook here I mean I don't like having things like
53:17 control panel moved around on me I don't like having things like search moved
53:21 around on me um and the search is weird cuz it can only search in like files
53:25 settings what I meant the categories of search I find frustrating like why um
53:31 the start menu fixes a lot of the issues but not necessarily quite all of them
53:37 and it has its own kind of problems classic star has its own problems and I
53:40 really like arog glass yeah which is kind of dorky but I like being able to
53:44 see through the top of things and like you know what's weird you can make a
53:49 transparency for some of the stuff but not all but not everything like the
53:53 Bottom bar the Tas bar will go transparent but then the top bar top
53:58 bars will not and like at first he
54:01 brought that up he's like oh I miss AOG glass and I like no big deal and then
54:05 I'm like oh well I use it I kind of want
54:09 it back I use it I use it to see what's under stuff like even just that top bar
54:13 that little sliver and it just looks right oh I know it looks so good like
54:17 you should be able to see through it like no I don't know not a big deal one
54:21 thing that I'm going to miss a lot which you again don't care about no wait no
54:25 not the file copy not okay file copy amazing so good I wish I could just like
54:30 download the file copy UI I mean Terra copy is okay but it's not well
54:34 integrated with Windows no not very well and like yeah whatever um and then and
54:41 then task manager the new task manager is really no no I agree 100% new task
54:45 manager is outstanding so I'm going to miss those two things and then one thing that you don't care about at all but if
54:50 you are running a whole bunch of backgrounds and you have them switching
54:54 if you have multiple monitors each one can have its own background there has to
54:58 be some third party utility there is third party utility is it one you have
55:02 to pay for it okay two it just sucks
55:05 okay so like H I don't know all right
55:09 then um yeah so there you go
55:13 guys what are your impressions of Heart of the
55:17 Swarm okay so I haven't played enough multiplayer yet the campaign is awesome
55:23 um if you like RTS campaigns especially if you like star I suggest going and
55:27 playing it and play it all the way through because the story wraps up kind
55:31 of nicely there's a few times where I'm like really did you really just do that
55:35 why did you just do that but it ends up wrapping us wrapping up very nicely um
55:40 multiplayer some of the new units that came out are really cool interesting fun
55:46 all that kind of stuff balance I think might be a little bit odd right now were
55:50 they weren't they thinking of removing carriers they were going to remove carriers which was going to remove me
55:54 from the game because I just have that's like classic I love carriers man and
56:00 like whenever I get to late game it's always fun to just like play normally
56:03 and then all a sudden be like carriers because they never expect it oh so much
56:07 fun um anyways so and like okay the
56:11 unbalanced thing is coming from a person
56:14 that plays protos and is finding certain units on protos unbalanced in a way that
56:18 they're slightly overpowered so I'm not being biased being like Oh Taran and
56:23 zerich are overpowered like there's certain units on my team that are kind
56:27 of nuts um there's one flyer unit that has a whole bunch of abilities but you
56:31 can change its mode talk as if you're talking to them and they know what you're talking about you you can change
56:35 its mode which makes it constantly use energy but that means that it can now
56:39 shoot it can't normally Auto attack um but it's really fast moving and it
56:43 doesn't cost nearly as much as say a a
56:46 void Ray um so you can get it in behind
56:49 Minal Lin is you can get it in behind
56:52 mineral lines really really quickly activate this energy ability and just de
56:56 imate mineral lines and then fly them away the energy will constantly go down
57:00 even if you're not shooting so you have to be careful with toggling it and stuff
57:04 but just the speed at which you can clear minion lines or uh mineral lines
57:10 is insane and they're really fast and they're not that expensive so you can
57:13 pump out three and then jump behind the guy's miral line and just like clear it
57:18 and that's game over and just be like sup GG Noob have fun making a little bit
57:22 more money not being able to afford anti-air turrets and having me just rewipe your mineral every time it's
57:27 they're really good and now like I've only played a couple multiplayer games I
57:31 honestly don't even really know the new units for the other races um so I'm
57:35 probably not the best person to talk to about this and there might be really good counters for them and realistically
57:40 they might suck um but every time I've used them it's just been kind of
57:44 ridiculous I've just disallowed the other team from having workers at all so
57:51 I don't know that's kind of cool but not fair so yeah really really fun I need to
57:56 get more used to it I've been out of Starcraft for a while I haven't played
58:00 for a really long time ladder matches last night was like the first time I've
58:05 done ladder matches in months right so I'm pretty out of it but maybe next
58:09 stream I'll be able to come back with a much more knowledgeable opinion on it on
58:14 the multiplayer side at least so overall recommended for 39 I was surprised to
58:18 see a $ 39.99 price point it's not a full price expansion yeah that's awesome
58:22 that is cool and especially from someone like blizzard who who's like yeah
58:27 release full price expansions all the time but then yeah it's not a full price
58:30 expansion the campaign is not short I beat it in two days but that was like
58:35 that was two pretty intense days I had to saw yeah I like would disappear after
58:40 work and then stay up until like 5 or 6 in the morning and then come
58:45 back to work the next day you were so crabby in a couple of those
58:50 mornings um like you're baned I was going to I was tempted to be like look
58:54 you can't play Starcraft until that late at night and come to work cranky like
58:57 that but that's what was important um
59:01 yeah that is the important thing I suppose beating a video game they they
59:05 added a lot of really cool changes now um there's levels so you're
59:11 like your person levels up I guess I think you gain levels depending on what
59:15 race you're playing so like I'm a whatever level protos and I could be a
59:19 different levels Z I think and while you're playing like as you spawn units
59:24 as you kill units as you build buildings you gain experience and then you gain
59:28 experience depending on like how long the game was and all this kind of stuff which add a cool Dynamic which is more
59:33 fun for not the extremely hardcore players which is like oh cool I'm
59:37 leveling upov more stats stats and
59:41 achievements exactly there's way more of that kind of stuff in the game which
59:46 honestly it it is kind of cheesy but I just love it it's cool I like leveling
59:50 up in Starcraft I like getting experience in Star cuz just like oh
59:54 that's cool like I I built this unit and then killed this dude so I got
59:57 experience for building the unit and I got experience for killing him like I
60:01 don't know it's kind of cool it is cheesy but it's kind of cool I like it
60:05 did you ever uh yes we do have a build log of the week okay I'll have to I'll
60:08 have to open that up on there when we get a minute next time you're talking for a bit but um why don't we move to
60:14 Twitter we've still got a lot here why don't we burn through some of the quick
60:18 some of the quick discussion topics okay so corer released 3 gigahertz that's
60:23 3,000 mahz memory um did you you see
60:26 this yet no okay curiously enough they released it under the Vengeance branding
60:31 rather than Dominator yeah so they're Vengeance modules so they're not using
60:36 the custom PCB they're not using or they might be using a custom PCB okay that I
60:40 don't know don't quote me on that but they're Vengeance modules they are going
60:44 to be extremely limited production and
60:47 extreme overclockers only need apply
60:51 because not only do you have to have the 3 gigz memory which is going to be
60:54 really expensive for two 4 gig dims but you will also need to have a CPU that
60:59 can actually handle 3 GHz on the uh
61:02 integrated memory controller and will that they can't all do that will that
61:06 like actually heat up DDR3 probably I
61:11 can't imagine this is like a stock voltage there's no way that's like cuz
61:15 DDR3 doesn't heat up that much no but the binning process that's going into oh
61:20 God 3 GHz I don't even want to know that's probably why they're Vengeance
61:24 modules because the volume of modules
61:28 that they would have to build to bin enough 3 GHz kits to ship because
61:34 Vengeance are a higher volume part compared to dominators that's probably what happened so there you go there's
61:38 the answer to the question that I couldn't figure out by me yeah yeah
61:42 someone just commented in the twitch chat he's like finally he said something
61:46 you actually need liquid cooling for but I was like yeah you don't really need to cool RAM so maybe you will actually have
61:52 to cool your RAM I mean these are intended for like liquid nitrogen
61:55 cooling yeah so expecting people to push these well beyond 3 gz oh yeah so that's
62:00 kind of neat if you're into memory overclocking I think very few people are
62:03 these days though no as far as I know not so much so there's a rumored oh okay
62:09 this uh oh you know what I wanted to do this I'm going to uh I'm going to go to
62:15 the Linus Tech tips forum and I'm going to go to the news section because I do
62:21 like to check our Tech news and reviews section on the Forum and uh pick out
62:27 guys who posted news threads that I thought were interesting so our 3 GHz
62:32 memory News Post was from seai Bell I
62:37 don't know whatever I don't know what that is so at only $749.99 uh this was
62:42 uh this was posted by one of the members of our Forum also there was a post on
62:47 the AMD 7790 and NVIDIA GTX 655 TI that
62:53 are rumored to be released at some point point so I don't know uh I don't know
62:58 anything about these cards to be perfectly honest I don't know if they're real I don't know if they're actually
63:02 coming but what I would imagine that they are because I don't think there's
63:05 any new architectures coming right now um what I'd imagine they are is they're
63:10 just overclocked 7770 and uh 650 TI
63:14 probably that makes sense because they both overclock well um like 7 7770
63:20 particularly is like yeah a beast overclocker so they could just go okay
63:26 higher power envelope turn the clock speed up 7770 is one of my favorite cars
63:30 to overclock CU it's just like um so that's probably what's coming
63:35 on that side they're likely to line up
63:38 sort of perfectly with each other because they're going to be speed bumps
63:41 of cards that compare reasonably well although I'd expect the 7790 to continue
63:45 to beat the 655 TI um if that's what they end up
63:51 being called all this is complete speculation and rumors I know nothing
63:54 about them which is why I can talk about them right if I knew I wouldn't be able
63:58 to talk about it um because of our
64:02 results where our overclocked
64:05 7770 competes very favorably against the overclocked 650 TI so that's what leads
64:10 me to believe that a higher bin of both versions right would favor AMD so right
64:16 uh so there's that one so that one was posted by
64:21 artorius on the Forum so let's go ahead and I'm going to S Like a Warrior all
64:25 arus sorus so he's got some Sapphire's
64:29 official Facebook announcement as well as so he's got references to other sites
64:33 which is good we don't want just random rumors that don't refer to anything so
64:38 that's uh that's exciting so there was another one this one was the one aha so
64:43 game developers say PlayStation 4 will
64:46 outow most PCS for years to come now
64:49 when we actually click on it this was started by Dragon Tale Dragon Tale that
64:54 was a bit of a tionalist headline there
64:58 because what the game devs actually said if we read a little bit further here is
65:04 recent debate about new console something something has developers
65:08 starting to come out and say that the PS4 will outperform entry level Hardware
65:13 in the PC market that includes graphics
65:16 cards around 4 gigs of RAM for years to
65:19 come so okay couple of things here um
65:25 number one is entrylevel PC Hardware is
65:30 so far behind high-end PC Hardware I
65:34 mean you look at entry-level graphics cards things like a 610 a 610 is still
65:40 basically a lowend firmy like that was is a six I
65:46 don't think 610 is even Kepler I think so and and even like back when in the
65:50 400 series I think they rebadged 210 at
65:55 some point point and made those 400 series like there's a lot of rebadging
65:58 that goes reing happens all the time on the lowend stuff because quite frankly
66:02 they sell them for so little that it's hardly even worth the R&D to redevelop
66:05 the chips the people who are buying these cards are more interested in
66:08 features like multim monitor than gaming
66:12 um I I maintain you shouldn't buy a graphics card that's less than $100 if
66:17 you're spending less than $100 on a graphics card you might as well put it in a piggy bank and save up for a
66:22 platform upgrade because you can get Apu platforms you buy new CPU memory and
66:28 motherboard for a couple hundred bucks that are going to outperform an
66:32 entry-level graphics card from either NVIDIA or AMD we have videos from quite
66:35 a while ago now actually but Apu videos
66:39 they do really well y like surprisingly well if you want entry-level gaming
66:43 performance don't buy an entry-level gaming graphics card because that isn't
66:46 what it is buy an APU just do it uh CPU performance is decent it's not it's not
66:51 on par with Intel but the graphics core
66:54 is way ahead of what Intel's delivering right now although Haswell May shift
66:59 things around a little bit because I was looking at the um the amount of core
67:03 space that Intel is allocating to GPU
67:07 CPU is like not going up at all in terms of the actual size like it's going to be
67:11 just optimizations from what I can tell but then what they're doing on the GPU
67:15 is they're like doubling it wow like way more die space so that's that's exciting
67:20 well they needed to compete there a bit more to be honest so so anyway so yeah I
67:24 mean saying something like it they'll be competitive with entry I mean Xbox 360
67:28 is probably still competitive with entry-level PCS that's like a
67:31 six-year-old console it's like wow how far into your crystal ball did you have
67:35 to look for that with that said the vast
67:38 majority of people out there are not running gaming computers and that's
67:42 something that we enthusiasts forget about sometimes there's a lot of 8800s
67:45 there's a lot of 260s there's a lot of stuff that's way crappier than that
67:49 that's true there's a lot of like you know 8600 GTS still out there there's a
67:55 lot of 8500s still out there lot of previous stuff still out there there's a
68:00 lot of Gamers who are still living at home with their parents using whatever
68:05 computer their parents bought from a big box store one of my like they want to
68:08 play games but one of my really really really good buddies is running an an
68:13 eco-friendly 8800 that only has one uh
68:17 PCI Express power plugin that's exactly the same as the
68:21 regular 8800 there's a little tidbit for you it was just a it was just a revision
68:27 to the core that made it slightly more power efficient it's power its
68:31 performance is exactly the same as a non-co well we've benched it and they
68:34 were different that's very maybe that's binning or something that happened there
68:38 that's very strange we'll have to look I'll have to
68:42 look into that one more outside of the stream um but yeah he still plays
68:47 absolutely everything yep and you know the the reality of it is uh the PCS sort
68:53 of you know the greatest thing about about it and the worst thing about it is
68:57 the flexibility of the hardware so you can make a game for PC and if you make a
69:02 game for 90% of the PCS out there the way blizzard does you end up with games
69:07 like Diablo II that look like they're 10 years old but the reality of it is that's
69:13 still a PC game and consoles Next
69:16 Generation consoles will be ahead of that level for a long time yeah because
69:19 you you can develop for exactly the spec Y which is nice so there's that
69:23 optimization that goes on as well um if we don't have anything we should
69:27 jump on Twitter we haven't really been on Twitter at all yeah sure let's jump on Twitter for a little bit see if uh
69:32 see if anyone's got any Twitter things if I could actually get the window open
69:36 that would be great there we go I do so
69:40 love this little uh keyboard mouse thing LOL my friend got ripped off at fries
69:45 they said 800 watt power supply water cooling Etc nope he wasted money on a
69:49 gt640 3 gig and that's another thing about that statement from the game DS
69:53 what do you mean a 4 gab graphics card that doesn't mean anything you could put
69:57 4 GB in fact I think someone did put 4 gigs of memory on a low-end uh gt600
70:03 series I'm just looking at that come on
70:06 that card is going to be bottlenecked by the time it fills up 512 Megs of vram
70:12 because any modern game that actually has highres textures a turn them off
70:16 because they're not going to run on that card and B you're going to be running at
70:20 such a low resolution you're not going to need the vram
70:24 anyway um we usually mean competitive in terms of performance I think re in that
70:30 3200 integrated GPU I think that's an older one from like the express chipsets
70:35 that's not quite the same as an APU just throwing that out there it's me playing
70:39 games with a 9800 yep 650 TI with one or
70:42 two gigs vram one one gig vram is fine
70:45 for 650 TI is it interesting the T balancer T balancer
70:50 next one can you talk about your tea balancer uh I've talked about this on the live streams before so I don't want
70:56 saying recommended he's asking if he should buy one we've talked about why we
71:00 liked it we haven't talked about why we don't like it it's really hard to configure it's such a pain it's hard to
71:05 even find an English version of the stupid software last time I did it which
71:08 was like a couple years ago mind you I tried to do it more recently and could not get an English version working I
71:13 think you have to get the German version and then you have to figure out how to
71:17 change it to English within the German version reading the German menus and
71:20 apparently that works so like like there's a lot of usability things that
71:23 are kind of weird but once you have it set up it's set and forget you never
71:28 touch it again I I didn't touch it for literally years and it just
71:32 automatically configured everything through multiple rebuilds of my computer
71:35 I just didn't change anything about my T balanc or just remembered which fans
71:38 kind of plugged into what and like it's awesome but you're going to have to fight with it a bit that's all okay we
71:43 are going to have a featured rig from the forums a featured build log but I
71:46 don't I don't want to click on anything in Twitter right now just in case it's
71:50 like goatsy or something I'm trying to OC my 777s but can only get a small over
71:55 clock you got way higher try turning up the voltage that might be
71:59 something oh oh you know what I think I might have made a mistake PC computer
72:03 geek might be right we usually line up 7770 with the non-ti don't
72:08 we yes TI is lined up with do we even I
72:13 don't remember okay you'll have to check that out I'll get that one
72:17 sec um no we yeah no he's right because
72:21 it's 650 I'm just do we even run 650 TI I don't think we do so there you go we
72:24 were totally wrong in that whole discussion about that any giveaways
72:28 today probably no giveaways today yeah we run 650 660 660 Ti and 670 is the
72:34 Aries 2 all sold probably ATI can only
72:37 use physx by running calculations off the CPU how much of an impact on FPS is
72:40 this well a lot of games it's like kneecapped by the way that FSX is
72:44 implemented so yeah you never explained
72:48 Cherry MX green switches in your mechanical keyboard Techquickie video
72:51 can you explain its advantages and disadvantages it's basically heavier
72:55 blue and the reason we didn't talk about it was because find a keyboard that
73:00 actually has okay I know there are some but they're very well yeah but that's
73:04 not even out yet we're not they're not even supposed to be talking to us about
73:08 that you're going to get them in trouble sh I they previewed at CIS they
73:11 previewed it at CES but there are very few keyboards out there with Cherry MX
73:15 green and it may gain some popularity moving forward but they are more
73:19 expensive and they are much less rare than the usual blue red brown black key
73:24 switches they have it on their website as new for 99 bucks okay well there you
73:29 go okay apparent 99 Only is that a 10 keyless oh yeah that's an expensive 10
73:33 key list then yeah that's still keyboard with green switches all right exciting
73:38 he he just said they're heavier Blues they also have a more accurate actuation
73:41 Point Blues have a slight problem that people and like okay this I use
73:46 exclusively Blues on everything um but Blues have a slight problem where if you
73:50 float right under the click you can um
73:54 hit the actuation Point repeatedly so there's double tapping issues that
73:58 people will have if they're trying to click really really quickly where they'll accidentally go back down before
74:03 they click and they'll actuate it too many times so the actuation point is not
74:08 exactly on the click greens is way more
74:11 accurate in that aspect than Blues now in saying this Blues are pretty darn
74:16 accurate like you're not going to have you're not going to have this problem
74:19 that often but that is a notable difference is the greens do have a more
74:24 accurate click an actuation Point level okay little bit more Twitter uh is
74:30 it worth it to oh uh corser 200 R is a good good budget case uh we're using one
74:34 for our video capture PC that we're running on right now is it worth it to
74:38 get a big bang 2 that supports 128 GB of RAM I don't know if I would run wait
74:42 where are you going to get 128 gigs of RAM on an x79 you need 16 gig dims so
74:47 good luck with that rumors of those are they coming soon coming out soon non ECC
74:52 16 gig dims rumors okay I don't know
74:55 I've just read You' be spending a fortune on it by the time you spent that
74:59 much on 16 gig dims if this is for a video editing and rendering station get
75:03 yourself a dual socket super micro board throw a couple of zons in there and then
75:08 get lower density 8 gig dims and fill it up just fill it up and then you can get
75:12 your 128 gigs of RAM and get more processing power and a proper
75:15 workstation platform at the same time probably for a fairly uh not at the
75:21 price 16 gig dims will probably be probably a fairly competitive price
75:25 cheaper yeah yeah to be honest lus wanted to get your opinion should I wait
75:29 for the 900d or get something now like a phantom 630 Phantom 630 is not very
75:33 comparable to the 900d I mean 900d is a monster 630 is quite like it's a mid
75:38 Tower almost it's like full steel and aluminum isn't it yeah it's like full
75:41 metal for the 900d whereas a very plastic design for the 630 I think you
75:45 need to decide exactly what you want and then decide what to buy I'd probably go
75:50 with a 7950 or a 60 TI I mean that's a
75:53 good M oh 347 maybe a 660 660 is a great value or a
75:58 7870 or 7850 when is slick going to upload
76:02 videos to his YouTube channel that is for that channel that you see when I
76:05 comment on YouTube videos is for replying to comments on YouTube videos I
76:10 am not planning on releasing anything on that channel uh Slick's personal rig has
76:13 been updated yep uh people asked you to talk about your personal rig and we never
76:17 talked about it during the Windows 8 thing okay um I'm running I'm water
76:21 cooling with a t- virus and a 12.3
76:26 um PA 12.3 donated by someone very
76:31 gracious um I'm running a 2600k and
76:35 moving to a GTX 670 water cooled this
76:39 one's very very short yeah it's really short very short mini card it's
76:43 literally about this looks really small in the 800 it's a little bit ridiculous
76:48 um but it actually kind of works for my water loop yeah cuz it'll be in the right
76:53 position to so you won't have to re replum and buy you tubing so it actually
76:57 kind of works um I have a lot of I don't
77:01 want to do a personal rig update video because I have a lot of work on that rig
77:04 that I need to do before I want to release a personal update video uh the
77:08 mineral oil rig had enough novelty in it that it was just kind of awesome um but
77:14 like currently I love the power that's there's like junk growing in his Loop
77:17 and he doesn't want to show you guys actually that goes away and comes back
77:22 because of the silver fittings right now it's not there is it not there right now
77:26 no it's not oh that's weird but it comes back it's the silver fittings it cleans
77:29 it and then gets dirty it's because I don't think I have enough if I had
77:34 silver fittings on my D5 okay I think it would be
77:39 enough like eight silver fittings in it yeah have six yeah okay um if and adding
77:44 in that graphics card might actually solve it okay if I add two more silver
77:48 fittings there that might actually fix my problem okay or I can just add a kill
77:52 coil or something but anyways uh I still need to like lik seve my power supply um
77:56 yeah your power supply looks ghetto it's a high current ugly it's awesome power
78:00 supply yeah High current Pro 1200 wat or something ridic it's beast and like
78:04 unnecessary but whatever um but totally
78:07 beast and ugly super ugly so I need to
78:11 sleeve that um I'm in an 800d but like
78:15 the front looks horrible it's a little bit broken there's some scratches like I
78:19 I need to so beat up like it's really beat up um one of my roommates that I
78:23 had who was often Under the Influence
78:27 utilized the cardboard panels from the
78:30 box for my 800d to build
78:33 something I was I came home and I'm just
78:37 like what and this is like weeks afterwards cuz I just had the box for it
78:41 in the back room and never really thought about it right and I'm like K well I can't transport my 800d in a box
78:47 anymore it's just so heavy which is insanely really hard to move around and
78:51 like have it not like if it SL like once it gain momentum if it starts moving in
78:56 the back of a car it's going to smack and then that creates scratches so like
79:00 it's it's an 800d but it's like probably one of the least attractive 800 DS in
79:05 existence not really um but it's it's
79:08 not doing so it's down there it's definitely down there so that needs to
79:11 be replaced I need to leave my cables like there's work that needs to be done before I want to release but you're
79:15 saving for a car I'm saving up for a car he's saving for a car so he can drive me
79:19 around for a change instead of the other way around yeah so like it's going to be
79:23 a while but yeah that's that's my rig can we put like um like benchmarker SL
79:30 programmer SL shofur on your business cards when we have them printed oh my
79:34 God we got to do that that would be so amazing that would be perfect we have to
79:38 have chauffeur on we should have leaky chauffeur you'll have to Leaky chauffeur
79:43 yeah his car now actually the roof leaks it's a Pontiac which should be all you
79:47 it's a convertible in BC it got cold and it cracked it's an old car PTI old
79:52 probably leaked at the beginning no no no it's an old car why do you defend the
79:56 Pontiac cuz I like that car what is good
80:00 everything about it is terrible it doesn't even have cup holders that's
80:05 stupid it's convertible you don't need cup what do you mean it's a convertible
80:09 you don't need cup holders nothing slides with you I was
80:14 hoping you wouldn't notice that that's that's like I can't even compare that to
80:18 anything that's like saying it's a it's a it's a it's it's a Rancher it doesn't
80:24 need it was my first car it's gotten me around and it's awesome in the summer
80:29 it's amazingly awesome in the summer you know the cruise around with the top down
80:33 in the summer when it's hot is just kind
80:36 of awesome okay Pontiac whatever your car
80:40 be Leaf runs oh I need to change
80:45 gears okay we're still moving well maybe if I wasn't driving your huge ass around
80:51 everywhere my car would still run it was broken weigh about double what I do what
80:57 I thought we figured out actually no it's not
81:00 bad whatever you look like you weigh um twice as hard to look at there
81:06 Bam Bam um what was I going to say I don't
81:11 care I can't even remember whatever something about your stupid car I like
81:15 my car um something about your personal
81:19 rig oh yeah you're saving up for a car so you're not going to do all the
81:22 upgrades right away that's right away yeah but I am planning like eventually
81:25 all this will happen and then I will eventually release a rig update but like
81:30 I wouldn't I wouldn't hold up for it uh new slore fans for my PC or save
81:35 up for a GTX 680 lightning I don't know if your computer's really loud I've done
81:40 cooling upgrades as opposed to performance upgrades but it really depends what video card you're running
81:44 now although 680 lightning isn't necessarily the best choice unless you
81:48 want to run 3D Vision or NVIDIA um or rather um 3D Vision or fiz X orud go
81:54 what games you play and then check out some of our videos yeah 7970 may end up
81:58 being a better choice for you like something like a um sh what's that ASUS
82:03 one The Matrix one Matrix 7970 is awesome card we did an NCI Tech tips
82:08 quite a while ago showing that even without the never settle driver it was
82:11 already the fastest single card went overclock to the Max and we ran into
82:15 gains to 680 lightning and the never settle driver is like kind of a big deal
82:20 yeah kind of a huge deal Sean contributes that Windows 8 has been
82:23 super Shady on his Grand mother's new computer apparently to run some
82:27 Microsoft games in Windows 8 you need a new app and steam's not providing it so
82:31 that might be something for you to look into I uh we're probably not going to do
82:35 a video on OC Basics because we do specific videos on NC Tech tips for
82:39 every new platform anyway so just go check out our overclocking guides over
82:43 there and you should pick up pretty much most of what you need to know my mouse
82:48 isn't working oh there it goes yay it's
82:52 back and honestly the Windows 8 comments like the usability of different things
82:56 is like I was able to deal with that it's the monitor randomly inverting and
83:00 going black right that I'm not able to deal with because like I've died so many
83:05 times in games just cuz I'm like oh I have a black screen and I can't do anything for six or seven seconds and in
83:09 a lot of games when you can't do anything for six or seven seconds you're
83:13 kind of scream um okay a little bit more Twitter Q&A so Robert asks if his fx8350
83:19 showing four physical cores and eight logical cores and task manager is normal
83:22 and it I don't know is that normal because pile driver cor P pile driver
83:27 modules have are sort of like a core and a half yeah they're they're funky but
83:31 it's not quite like not a core at all the way hyperthreading is so it's
83:36 probably normal as long as it shows eight logical then it should be fine by
83:39 the way slick defense fer kindly so
83:43 basically my car is a Ferrari it's a Pontiac Ferrari built by Pontiac
83:49 Ferrari slick can drive to wreck beach in his convertible Pontiac exactly that
83:54 is how classy a convertible Pontiac
83:58 is Bam and welcome lime fire the Lexus
84:03 LFA has no cup holders and it's an amazing car don't judge a car by its cup
84:07 holders okay okay how about this how about the fact that the Pontiac has no
84:11 cup holders and isn't an amazing car how
84:14 about the cup holders are just one thing for me to pick on in in like 20 years
84:19 all it's needed is new spark plugs okay
84:23 bam and pretty good runs great and a serious like non suckitude
84:28 makeover uh is slick a family member how is he always with you he works me way
84:32 too much yeah that's pretty much it I'm not getting paid right now actually
84:36 you're not no no although you're salaried so technically you are getting
84:40 paid right now just not very
84:44 much like really
84:48 small are you planning a project car I can't imagine you you're not that
84:51 mechanically inclined are you I do okay
84:54 I do I right my dad is okay and then I
84:57 kind of get some from there my dad's kind of a wizard when it comes to
85:01 anything so um Chris I don't think we need more heat sink manufacturers I
85:05 think Scythe exiting the North American Market was sort of all we needed to know
85:09 they had for that yeah good unique products and couldn't make it over here
85:14 because we have enough heat SN manufacturers be quiet! recently moved
85:18 over even yeah they did recently is um I have a blah blah blah blah yep
85:25 definitely go for it Richard do you think Samsung's features are actually
85:28 useful or just bloat Weare ruining Android what monitor are you going to
85:32 use now that your old one broke my mother always told me if you
85:35 don't have anything nice to say do say anything at all skip over it and address
85:39 the next question um I am I don't know he's thinking about
85:46 a leonitis yeah I'm looking into the leonitis I'm thinking about getting
85:50 repaired I would love to drop like five
85:53 grand on Sharp's 32 in 4k monitor but I
85:57 think my wife would kill me like absolutely kill me so
86:03 um yeah I don't know yet if I can repair
86:07 the 305t for a reasonable price then I'll do that in all likelihood just
86:10 tuned in from England yay hi England uh my main question with the tea balancers
86:14 can it actually switch the fans off absolutely the fan curves are fully
86:18 configurable and fully actually work although I'd recommend using voltage
86:22 control and I probably wouldn't recommend using WM fans have you thought
86:26 of combining forces with 10 Syndicate or do you plan to continue to be
86:29 competitors 10 Syndicate well Logan's on the east coast and we're on the west
86:33 coast so unless yeah unless one of us was planning to move I don't think we'd
86:38 be like merging our companies because he's running his own business now too
86:42 much the same way that I am um however I really don't see us as competitors
86:46 Logan's awesome we like Logan yeah we like Logan like a lot I mean we've
86:50 emailed him we've like Twitter chatted with him I've never met him in person
86:53 unfortunately that I'm hoping to at some point but uh yeah we guys hey go
86:59 subscribe raise the world with a zero not to no um on YouTube Tech Syndicate
87:04 go subscribe because Logan's a good guy and his format is so different from ours
87:08 it's good I mean I like it we both do benchmarks but his news show is much
87:13 more structured it's more of a recorded show whereas our news show is like live
87:19 Q&A um subscribing to both channels you
87:23 have that much of a Content style overlap and you would probably if and
87:27 you'll get a couple different perspectives yeah it's cool get M slicks
87:31 Logan uh subscribe to Paul Hardware as well as well as uh awesome sauce news
87:35 that's Kyle from Newegg yeah all good all good
87:40 guys uh okay let's see 520 watt 80 plus
87:44 Platinum is that the uh the passive one if so good work Melvin because the pass
87:48 is boss you know what I figured out I think that one is built on the
87:53 same plat form as the XFX th000 watt Platinum that I'm using yeah yeah you
87:57 told me about that and the fans on my radiator are air penetrators so they're
88:03 directed air flow so if I at least have that one running a little bit I will can
88:07 have no fan at all in my power supply because 520 watts is lots for what I'm
88:11 doing in fact is it 520 or
88:14 550 5 520 yeah I can see it it's over
88:17 there uh how about how is pump rattle in
88:21 the h100 uh neither of our h100s is bad
88:24 yeah I I owned an IBM model M for a little while and then someone took it
88:30 back from me after I cleaned it up how many Canadian viewers do you have I I
88:35 don't know
88:39 400 42 five six first time I watched the
88:44 stream in real time all right can't pronounce your name but that's cool whoa
88:48 is an SLI config of 660 non TI okay you
88:51 know what probably not a bad idea 660 is not that far behind the TI and as long
88:56 as you don't need the extra vram of getting a higher end card with more
88:59 video memory you should be able to get a pretty significant performance boost to
89:03 the tune of of better than you would do by selling a 660 and getting a 670 or
89:08 something like that um dark genin it's
89:12 not N Night classic start I just
89:15 download classic start I think it's Classic Shell for Windows 8 from the N
89:20 Night website just want to clarify that
89:23 uh I'm only 13 I'm not posting strange pictures yeah I was a perfect angel on
89:28 the internet when I was 13 too either way we don't want to risk it
89:33 because we've clicked on stuff that kind of killed people's ears before Tim
89:37 already knows the answer
89:40 n12 Logan likes one of your CES he likes one of our CES we did like 50 what a
89:46 jerk good enough don't subscribe to Logan I take back everything I said
89:49 before about subscribing to Logan I don't even care I still like Logan
89:52 whatever man okay let's see if we've got oh EVGA released their utility for
89:57 changing the lighting yes 690 and Titan
90:00 so you can uh lower the brightness increase the brightness you can set it
90:05 to breathing breathing mode which is like I love breathing mode for LEDs it's
90:09 just awesome although what I think I would probably do if I was balling
90:13 enough to have a Titan is I would set it up depending on GPU load it can go
90:18 brighter or dimmer so cool so cool that's the kind of stuff that really
90:22 makes me geek out that's awesome I love stuff like that that's why I like
90:27 um uh tactical tracers crucial tactical tracers RAM I tried to install the
90:31 application on my computer it just says unsupported motherboard I haven't done a
90:35 BIOS update though it's still running BIOS V1 and it's running that weird Zeon
90:39 chipset it's running a workstation chipset so I might try taking the
90:43 modules putting them in an x79 or like a z68 board or something and then moving
90:48 them and moving them back over cuz I think it saved on the modules themselves
90:51 I think so but I think so I don't don't quote either on that yeah we don't we
90:55 don't actually know so there what was I going to say yeah and
91:00 in combination that would actually be pretty cool oh that'd be so
91:05 cool probably want to do like an LED color swap on the Titan though like if
91:10 there you could probably do it cuz you could take the green out of the cooler and probably put in blue I bet it's not
91:14 even a colored LED looking at that color that's not a green LED color that would
91:20 be that would look so good like blue GTX
91:24 wo that would be cool uh speaking of
91:27 like mods and Rigs and stuff like that I'm actually just you should probably
91:31 not have your sending myself oh yeah guys please don't read my
91:35 emails uh I don't think there's anything here that's that bad but you've got
91:39 stuff from like from people so their names are there and stuff yeah that they
91:43 might care about that that email from that guy is like the most bizarre thing
91:46 that uh that I've seen in a while I don't even see it it's uh they want us
91:50 to promote some contest or something to win like a TV or something we talk about
91:55 the the I have no idea what you're talking about I don't know if I can talk
91:59 about here I'll type it one sec are you drunk no I just don't know how to
92:03 describe this sure yeah go for it um I don't even
92:08 know who it is it's um your it's uh oh
92:12 crap you know what let's just save it then cuz I can't remember who makes now they're all going to be like what H
92:16 we'll talk we'll talk about it later okay okay so let's do our featured build
92:21 blog of the week from the lonus tech tips Forum so our featured build log is
92:26 from joric wait a minute didn't we already feature this did
92:32 we uh oh what you talking about Willis did
92:35 we you have to log in all right I have
92:39 to log in to see images uh I can't change that I'm sorry I think we already
92:44 featured this one okay well jorck you're on again because it's too late for me to
92:50 fix it now um uh uh uh I had other
92:56 competitors okay live stream was very rush today
93:01 okay I don't remember my password for the Forum right now so we're not at our
93:05 best right now here
93:09 guys there we go I'm logged in was this the first one I think yeah I we
93:15 definitely featured this crap none of those were the completed pictures
93:20 anyways way to go did you show the wrong pictures when we actually featured it
93:25 oh I might not have showed I might not have showed all the pictures okay fine
93:28 just we're just going to feature yoro again go to the very last and we're
93:32 going to go to the very end of his build blog why you go
93:36 okay all right it's
93:39 not there it goes okay so we're going to
93:43 look at his build properly this time so
93:46 slick why don't you cover everything that's good about it here you can use
93:49 this to uh yeah this was apparently feature before sorry guys
93:54 guys this was very last minute we didn't have internet in the office today that
93:58 was so fail like so fail I had to try
94:01 and find a build log so I was trying to find build logs without
94:05 pictures which is like kind of hard to do you just have to go based on memory
94:09 of build logs you've seen before that are good so I was I was well I was
94:12 reading the comments and trying to figure out what was going on with this
94:15 one and I was like this sounds awesome so went with this and that apparently
94:20 didn't work out too great um tell us about the rig though that looks awesome
94:25 it looks amazing it's based on like crop circles that's why it's called
94:28 phenomenon so kind of cool cool naming to go along with your style a lot of
94:33 planning that went into this if you look into earlier posts like he gets into
94:37 actually um what uh like I think it's
94:41 called drafting I don't know if that's the official name for what he did
94:44 specifically but he drafted out like what he was going to do for this crop
94:48 circle and like the rest of the design of the case um a lot of really really
94:52 cool maet window this it's very clean
94:56 like you can even see that picture right there that is incredibly clean that's
95:00 outstanding this I never saw so there you go um he uses M&D PC sleeving MD MD
95:07 PC U oh I'm thinking million dollar PC
95:10 um like just insanely clean everything
95:13 about it is clean the I love the white fittings yeah I was just going to say
95:16 the white fittings are awesome um the the sleeving situation he has going on
95:21 is really interesting because a lot of people go with nice patterns and stuff
95:24 like one one or two two or like half and
95:27 half but he kind seen a lot of people do like one accent one or one accent one
95:32 but he kind of flipped it around a little bit and that's scary because you
95:35 can flip it around a little bit and it might not look very good and then you just sleeved everything doesn't look
95:39 very good but this looks really good we have a visitor
95:46 hi oh no okay well live stream's over
95:49 guys my cats are apparently outside so I need to go chase them they are uh
