maybe live maybe live I should hope so
0:05
welcome to the show today guys we figured out some of the issues
0:11
ahead of time like where we were going to stream from as you can see Kingston
0:15
has gone ahead and decorated our streaming set with a whole bunch of
0:18
their uh their cute little you know rex
0:21
head things that they got going on here we figured out an internet connection
0:25
we've actually got a 50 up 50 down connection so that was no problem but
0:31
what we didn't figure out was that well a couple of things I forgot the AC
0:35
adapter for my laptop which is fully set up and configured for streaming I asked
0:41
for a USB microphone you asked for a
0:44
suggestion from the camera and editing people and they suggested XLR and then
0:47
we took XLR just to clarify okay well my
0:50
suggestion before their suggestion was grabbing a USB one because we know it
0:54
works so we brought an XLR microphone which as as we know from past experience
1:00
does not work uh in both Channels with our particular camera um so the the way
1:06
we've actually got it set up here is we've got a stereo microphone set up so
1:11
we're plugged into both XLR inputs on our camera so the viewers on the one
1:16
side can actually this is kind of cool maybe we should do it this way from now on because viewers on one side can hear
1:22
me as if I'm you know sitting on that side of the screen I think they're still
1:26
probably both closer to you um well no no but yeah but do it
1:30
properly yeah so there you go guys we
1:34
are we are finally live we are at the show it has been a heck of a week so far
1:39
and this is going to be a bit of a a bit of a special episode uh because it's
1:43
special in the sense that we don't have our lower Third special in the sense
1:47
that we don't have special in it there's lack of preparation yes yes so this
1:53
episode going to trash on it like immediately is all about helping you
1:57
guys appreciate the usual quality
2:01
standards and timeliness of the land show this time I mean we're late by 50
2:06
minutes usually we're late by like 30 minutes so like I mean that makes our
2:12
usual look so much better yeah see right
2:15
guys and uh yes yes this will this will come on YouTube later at some point I
2:21
have no idea how it figures into the release schedule because as you guys
2:25
have probably noticed we've been releasing about a video every 3 hours
2:29
since we are arrived at the show and that is exactly what we're going to talk
2:32
about today on the stream is what has been going on and uh what have been what
2:37
have been the highlights so far I'm going to drop right into this have you seen that crazy Chinese car no the
2:42
electric car th000 horsepower over 200 mes hour no I did not you Haven seen the
2:46
Faraday car no I have not okay I'm going to drop into this immediately looks like
2:50
Batmobile 100% looks ridiculous um has
2:54
over 100 or has over 1,000 horsepower can go over 200 mph is an electric car
2:59
are just ridiculous some crazy Chinese
3:02
entrepreneur company thing dumped huge amounts of money into this and the idea
3:08
is that the platform much like Tesla did they were like look the Roadster and
3:12
then now they're changing to other things yeah it's the platform that they're really trying to show off the
3:17
crazy thousand horsepower electric car is mainly just to like pull people in
3:21
and obviously get huge amounts of people talking about it because that's exactly
3:25
what happened um but the main thing they're showing off if you watch their
3:29
monitor and stuff is that they have a modular platform and they want to turn
3:33
this into other vehicles so yeah very
3:37
very interesting yeah I'm looking at it it's got kind of a uh it's got kind of a
3:42
a like Hot Wheels Batmobile kind of
3:45
something yeah it looks like the like a like like the Batmobile and a Lambo had
3:49
a baby and uh a little bit less aggressive than a Batmobile a little bit
3:54
more aggressive than a Lambo man that is a very interesting
3:59
looking vehicle so it can go from this is great so in theory a 1,00 horsepower
4:05
machine of this weight could use it four electric motors at each wheel to hit 60
4:10
mph in 3 seconds but that of course will
4:15
remain purely purely theoretical so Faraday has already committed it's
4:19
really interesting that they went with Faraday for the them of the company yeah
4:24
wow okay they have already committed to building A1 billion doll factory outside
4:29
of Las Vegas real close to Elon musk's gigafactory thanks in part to $335
4:36
million in incentives from the states
4:39
and they are actually just weeks away from breaking sorry the state the state
4:44
of Nevada so they're actually just weeks away from breaking ground on that
4:48
project I love how fast we ditched screen sharing here I guess that was
4:52
probably just my fault completely oh my bad everyone yeah I'll stop leaning over
4:57
and start doing work things
5:01
what website are you on Yahoo yeah yeah I'm well are we done now yeah I I think
5:06
I think we're kind of done um but yeah I I I was on my way to chiro and I've I've
5:11
heard of this I've talked to a few people about this I've been talking about it on Twitter I talked to a few
5:16
different taxi drivers about it yeah like I've I've been around and then
5:19
walking to chiro I was like oh fair day and then looked over and their entire
5:23
Booth was like completely packed and it
5:27
was the only booth that I saw like multiple people filming all at once I
5:32
think this might be the mo the biggest thing from CES this year there's still a
5:37
lot of time for this to be a complete
5:40
bust oh yeah oh yeah there's there there's there's there's there's tons of
5:45
time for electric which is still not
5:48
even beginning to be established as as a mainstream technology there's still a
5:53
lot of time for the traditional automakers to kind of go okay well all
5:59
right I got I guess we better get our crapping gear I mean actually one of the things that I've had the most fun with
6:03
here at the show has been BMW so I test
6:06
drove the I8 um and I also got a chance
6:10
to check out some of the concepts that they have for uh Touchless Control
6:14
inside the car at the same I totally hear what you're saying and I agree to a
6:19
large degree but at the same time I think I'm not surprised that this is
6:22
happening because if there was any time for a new player to jump into the auto
6:26
space it's probably on the tail of electric yeah oh definitely
6:30
definitely definitely I mean that's when when there's a huge fundal change that
6:34
occurs that's when that's when there's time for others to get more compe ground
6:37
equals out a little bit more yeah I mean a perfect example would be something
6:41
like uh let's say let's say the the YouTube video sharing platform
6:45
completely disappeared overnight you know for whatever the new
6:49
platform is we're at an advantage still because we have that viewership that is
6:55
going to be out there looking for us but
6:59
uh oh I just realized we never tweeted that we're live um hey we didn't do a
7:04
pre yeah yeah well this has been this has been definitely it's all about
7:08
helping them appreciate what we what we normally do um so be while we are still
7:15
sort of building up an audience on on a new platform that's a perfect time for
7:18
someone else to come in be really competitive be really awesome and
7:22
basically leave us in the dust it doesn't mean that we're you know down
7:26
for the count by any stretch of the imagination but like saying it just
7:30
means that there's more of an opportunity and a major platform shift
7:33
like this where a lot of the existing
7:36
ecosystem I mean let's let's face it Beyond you know molding for interiors
7:43
and you know sources for you know leather and and metal and being able to
7:48
create body components there's there's okay there's a lot of stuff that can be
7:53
reused but but a lot of the science
7:56
behind it a lot of the engineering behind it and a lot of the facilities to
7:59
build this stuff I mean uh an entire facility dedicated to building gasoline
8:04
or diesel engines is all of a sudden not an advantage it's not a problem and you
8:09
could certainly retrofit it it's not like the facility is all of a sudden
8:12
garbage it's just not nearly the same kind of advantage that you would have
8:16
had when every car was going to have a gasoline or a diesel engine in it and
8:21
basically guaranteed basically guaranteed and all of the and all of the
8:25
business advantages and economies of scale that go with having having a
8:29
production line that is running at X capacity all the time and you've got
8:33
this predictable flow of how many workers you know you need versus like
8:37
this like oh it's this completely new category we don't know how much
8:41
infrastructure to build up we still have to figure out the costing on it we have
8:45
to figure demand is still questionable blah blah blah blah BL demand is a huge
8:48
question and you're and you're an established automaker you're not allowed to be just sitting around losing money
8:52
you have shareholders who expect you to be making money because you've been around for a hundred years uh whereas a
8:57
new company coming in the expect is like everyone applauds when hey we lost only
9:03
you know 20 million this year it's like who yeah what an improvement yeah so
9:08
it's a completely different standard as well yeah um I'm going to do this tweet
9:13
so do you want to jump into whatever our next topic here is I I yeah I still find
9:17
it weird that we have topics BMW air touch 3D you probably know things about
9:21
that uh yeah so that was that was what I was talking about that uh that they were
9:25
doing I really like the concept that they have behind their electric stuff
9:30
that they're showing off um so the that
9:33
was the it was what do they call it like I8 future concept something something
9:38
yeah I I Vision future
9:41
interaction I was like okay that's a
9:45
hell of a name yeah it's a cool name but but there is some really neat stuff
9:48
about it so it's got this like super wide panoramic display and then it's got
9:53
a dual layer display right in front of the driver and then it's got a heads up
9:57
display that is visible as your looking through the windshield and then the way
10:01
that you interact with all of this equipment is actually kind of like as if
10:05
the panoramic display was a touchscreen except that you just kind of gesture in
10:09
the air and you kind of go oh like this and like that uh the video is already up
10:13
for it but the thing that stood out to me most about it um aside from you know
10:18
the I I really liked the Dual layer display I haven't actually seen that
10:23
practically applied in any meaningful way yet and it was really cool so it
10:27
would have like topographical information on on the rear display and
10:30
your route information and speed and other details on the front display like
10:34
overlaid in a way that as as things moved around and shifted looked and
10:39
looked really cool and and futuristic but looked cool and futuristic in a way
10:43
that wasn't compromizing the functionality of the thing like we see
10:47
so often with a with a concept device or
10:50
vehicle or whatever else but the thing that stood out to me the most about it
10:54
aside from that was when you when you sat in it the seat was really
10:58
comfortable like really comfortable you kind of sink
11:02
into you lean back and you're and and you're holding on to the steering wheel facing forward I like the live action
11:06
demonstration but also very comfortable
11:09
to kind of shift your butt about you know 20° put an ARM on the very wide
11:15
middle armrest obviously designed for two middle armrest and have a
11:19
conversation because that concept car
11:23
would be a concept of a fully self-driving car so they're kind of
11:28
sitting there going yeah we don't want to sacrifice the The Ultimate Driving
11:31
Experience because driving is is a verb
11:35
and you're the driver you drive the car
11:39
it's it's driving they don't want you to their whole tagline Ultimate Driving
11:43
Experience they don't want you to not be able to drive the car and have and have
11:47
a great time so it's not a couch on Wheels but it also really did think
11:51
about those do exist you know conversing
11:55
between the passenger and driver just kind of looking at each other got a
11:58
video plan playing on the dash while the car drives itself as well which I I
12:03
don't know I just I thought that was uh I thought that was really cool now we
12:07
just need self-driving coaches on Wheels hey I I I'm taking it one step
12:12
further I'm going with the Homer Simpson dream sequence where he's got the flying
12:16
bed oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yes and and I want cherubs sort of holding on to each
12:22
of the each of the bed posts and kind of carrying me off to wherever it is that I
12:26
that I need to go um
12:29
fantastic I want to take this I want to take this opportunity to uh to get you
12:34
guys to tweet at linest Tech let me know if there's anything that you guys want
12:37
us to talk about and while you guys are tweeting at us we've actually got a
12:41
couple of of special special guests that wanted to come and just kind of say hi
12:46
these guys helped us out a lot a lot
12:50
this uh this year so I'm gonna I'm going to move my chair over here I'm actually
12:53
just going to like super ghetto widen the shot over there and these guys can
12:57
squeeze into the middle l and I just have to yell so you can hear us it'll be
13:01
all right how many systems do you guys have
13:06
here I think we have seven seven yeah
13:10
seven this year we cut way back how many
13:13
did you have last year like 12 oh my goodness okay I thought you were
13:17
joking yeah no we had like 12 so yeah we
13:21
got a little sleep this year actually before we came so that was different
13:24
that's yeah that's an the truck was completely packed the seven G gamer
13:29
system everything all the night before and then
13:33
in the shop ready for a c okay so come
13:36
come on come on in a little bit closer here guys I think we're all uh I think
13:40
we're so running into BS and stuff so
13:43
this is Bob Stewart and Rod Rosenberg of
13:47
BS mods and you guys will probably recognize them if you ever watched that
13:51
mod 24 uh contest that Luke and I sort
13:54
of MC slash hosted these guys guys
13:58
Shuffle everyone over a little bit yeah these guys did end up winning the thing
14:03
but uh they do far more than just build
14:06
you know white and green themed machines around the gtx980 and I'd love to hear
14:11
from you guys what has been the highlight of the show for you so far you
14:15
know we spent a lot of time looking at cases surprisingly yeah really um
14:21
surprising cases yeah fasc so a couple
14:25
cases that we want to see right away what's inwin doing because they do some
14:28
pretty remarkable stuff uhhuh signature
14:32
and what not they do anything interesting this year a boat that's not
14:35
England that was so enwin's got a brand new
14:42
um what is the name the Signature Series yeah I don't remember it uh it's
14:46
actually an H frame H frame hame yeah it's the H frame series whatever and you
14:51
know remarkable lighting and a custom
14:54
power supply size oh yeah yeah a custom power supply and a window power Supply
14:59
yeah with lights lit power supply yeah
15:02
uh it's it's the same idea as the towel
15:05
where if the lights on the inside of the power supply are not on it looks like a
15:09
mirror but when the light is on you can see on the inside so you can see all the
15:13
internal components to the power supply it's actually pretty sick and it's designed to it you can only get it if
15:18
you buy that case it's designed to go with that case so the aesthetic is the
15:22
same which is great if the power supply ever fails in the future and you to
15:27
replace it it only fits in that case yeah that that's that's that's that's
15:30
that seems like a good idea um what else have you guys seen on the
15:35
case side of things I mean honestly it's been pretty quiet from my perspective
15:40
well we saw some uh well there's you know every year there's new things
15:44
that's why we're here but um I think we saw the Deep cool Suite they had some
15:50
really unique things going on there um
15:53
and then Leon Lee with the Prototype
15:57
builds of the yacht the boat you know and and so those were kind of cool too
16:01
we had some ideas when we saw those that we'd like to uh you know turn them into
16:05
battleships or you know just something cool but um I like the Coast Guard idea
16:10
yeah Coast Guard yeah you know maybe do Coast Guard theme you know there's a lot
16:14
you could do with them really so those were pretty awesome yeah okay so uh here
16:18
squeeze in a bit more so you guys are sitting right at the table got people
16:21
complaining sound is too low I'll just
16:25
okay so these guys did us a huge huge
16:29
favor keep squeezing in squeeze squeeze
16:32
all right okay these guys did us a huge
16:35
favor because I am fairly certain that
16:39
if we had shipped seven Gamers one CPU
16:42
down to Vegas we it was not going to get here in
16:46
one piece in fact uh one of their fellow
16:50
fellow modders Travis Jen had a system
16:54
completely destroyed in shipping
16:57
incidentally a system system that was in the same case that we used for seven
17:02
Gamers one CPU like what were you saying boot marks yeah boot marks on the Box on
17:07
the box when they got it it had shoe marks all over it like somebody used it
17:11
as like a booster or something to climb up a wall or who knows what but it was
17:15
destroyed on the very Stout Cas Labs case they've got the Pressed in uh
17:21
pieces to allow the panels to attached and those ripped out and so panels are
17:26
tweaked motherboard tray bent just I mean total and a missing stick of memory
17:31
gone not in the Box Not underneath the flaps of the Box not stuck to tape gone
17:37
it's great because our viewers give me so much crap for harping on case
17:42
manufacturers about packing material but you guys get it right oh you guys
17:48
understand how important is the packing material when you decide to buy a case
17:52
if you are having a system built in it
17:55
before it is shipped to you yeah yeah shipping a loaded ch see no packing
17:59
material seems to be designed for it well yeah the packing material is
18:03
actually just made for the empty case
18:06
yeah so that's what it's designed for once it's been built if you you know do
18:11
ship it somewhere it's not designed for that extra weight so there's a chance
18:15
something can happen so we usually try to build uh wooden crates and um that
18:20
fit that particular build you know and and that saved us although we've got
18:24
some builds back that the wooden crate was uh taped together hoping that it
18:29
would hold together so you know that stuff happens
18:33
so okay so I've been I've been meaning to ask you guys this
18:38
um uh give me give me a score out of 10
18:43
oh oh I know it's coming oh on seven Gamers one CPU I want to know I want to
18:48
know what you guys think
18:52
um on as an
18:56
overall you can decide you can decide I I no let's say on the physical build um
19:02
the physical build give me a score out of 10 I I want I want I want you on a
19:05
thoughts how do I do can that camera pick up my face turning red right now
19:09
it's like I don't know you go first R all right I think I'm going to go with
19:13
seven because a seven it's actually more generous than I was expecting okay the
19:18
ssds were done well you know yeah it's
19:21
double stick tape we love that stuff too
19:24
but you've got the full window you got a nice display of a of a impressive array
19:28
of ssds MH yeah you've got a theme that
19:32
runs throughout it's got paint it's got tubing it's got cables that all tie
19:37
together it's got fans custom fans I
19:40
mean who who can't love those nocta fans
19:45
so yeah yeah uh on who don't have the lus tech tips Edition one that's who
19:50
yeah so I I think it was well done I
19:54
would love hold on that's the next question okay okay so you you got to
19:59
give me you got to give me a score too all right so I'm going to give you a
20:03
7.5 oh wow so are you just like are you
20:06
basically kissing up at this point yeah yeah yeah no uh just for that half of an
20:10
extra brownie point you know so no actually uh that thing was really clean
20:14
you know we we are very particular with every build we do so we make sure that
20:19
all the wires are running correctly and super tight and shortened to the right
20:23
length and the you know uh stuff like that the one thing I could say that you
20:27
guys maybe should have done has added some lighting inside the case MH um so I
20:32
didn't see that and um it was nice that you went with a two-tone so you had a
20:36
little bit of extra you know a little bit of extra flavor there so some
20:40
different colors mixing it up a little bit that was good um but the layout was
20:44
great everything it was just no actually you guys did a really nice job so um
20:49
yeah I think 7.5 is probably right on
20:52
the money for for us I mean if you had one of our paint jobs you know of course
20:56
the score would go way up there you know it's like no it was a great job brownie
21:01
points motion got everything under
21:05
control okay okay okay so I I can't take
21:08
credit for the extra half a point because I came to Luke and I said Luke
21:15
orange or black for the tubing and Luke
21:19
goes half and half and I'm like safe
21:23
answer yeah well no I I I don't consider that a
21:28
safe answer I think black is a safe answer yeah for sure black would be the
21:32
safest of the three choices with probably all orange being the most kind
21:37
of out there but I kind of went no no no no pick one and he goes no you've got
21:41
the black and orange in the cabling you have to go black and orange in the tubing I'm like well hold on a second
21:46
we've got we we've got other orange accents we've got the orange accents on
21:50
the fans you know what what about those orange accents is that enough he goes
21:54
no well also because the fans were black and orange and the cables were black and
21:58
orange and everything else was black and orange and wanted the tubing just to be
22:02
do you guys ever along do you ever like just get along and like agree on
22:06
anything or is it always like we get along but we're like he's a car that's
22:10
driving right and I'm a car that's driving left so we just go B kind you're
22:15
just stuck there like you're kind of that's how we make progress yeah exactly
22:18
yeah you know other people would tell you you know you all got to drive in the
22:22
same direction we would tell you you just kind of like you know RAM up
22:27
against the guy next to you kind of it might not be as efficient but sometimes
22:32
you cinch on and then both Motors help no I actually don't think it that's
22:37
that's very very very good that I tried okay Rod what would you have done
22:42
differently I gotta add the Hardline a
22:45
you really you're GNA you're going to rag on me about the Hardline you know
22:49
but it was a great job with tubing and Hardline is not everything but with the
22:53
two CPUs and the fact that you've got that excellent seven-way block you know
22:58
I just think the Hardline would have just put the build over the top okay so
23:02
Hardline and lighting and then what do I get without OBS mods paint
23:07
job oh without the paint
23:10
job cu the paint job turns it up to
23:14
11 oh man I'd say
23:18
uh Hardline and
23:22
lighting I get I'd say an extra full
23:25
point eight and a half eight and a half okay all right okay that's good to know
23:29
I know what to strive for next time I am probably not going to end up doing
23:35
Hardline anytime soon did you guys see my personal rig update yet I have not
23:39
seen it yet okay so that's over only over on vessel and you guys are going to
23:43
cringe oh great so freaking hard on that
23:48
video because I went into it thinking
23:51
okay I'm doing Hardline tubing on this and I'm like like I get out the heat gun
23:56
and I get out the the monsoon bending it and I get out the all the blocks and
24:01
everything and I go and I put I put the uh GTX Titan X in the top and then I put
24:07
the Intel 750 SSD in another slot and I
24:10
go oh yeah hold on a second what is how
24:16
am I going to get a Bend between this full height card with a water block and
24:21
this half height card with a water block and not have the bottom card interfere
24:26
with the bottom of the case when I try and get a right angle Bend out of it so
24:29
tell me so so so anyway so from there I
24:32
go and I'm like okay we have to do soft tubing but I didn't account for this and
24:38
so none of my fittings are going to are going to fit like this is a foru chassis
24:42
it doesn't even have the same width as some some of some Tower chassis so when
24:46
you're coming off the graphics card or and the uh so yeah so when
24:51
you're coming off even the um even the reservoir I was having
24:56
trouble with the bends right so so I end
24:59
up digging up these like you know remember that kind of rusty blood red
25:03
that bits power had right I end up digging those out for a black and blue
25:07
themed build otherwise and I'm like okay I've got some 90s and some
25:11
45s like maybe maybe I can make this work and then finally I find a couple of
25:17
90 Silvers and I'm like okay maybe I'll just go with my ancient true Silvers the
25:23
the old silver play on I'm like oldies
25:26
but I believe they're goodies and that is exactly how old people think
25:31
and and then I I I end up I end up actually using a heat G the heat gun to
25:37
bend soft tubing right in order to get extra little twist to it so you end up
25:42
with that weird angle coming out of the fitting kind of like this instead of
25:45
coming out straight and bending nicely but um you know you got I don't want to
25:51
score from you guys on that all right yeah we'll we'll not do that if you want
25:55
to watch the train wreck then go go ahead go ahead enjoy it's in my plans
26:00
yeah we will we will definitely no okay
26:03
so the last thing here is uh this is something that we've kind of been kind
26:07
of been kicking around internally um and something that I know that you guys have
26:11
expressed interest in but I'd love to hear from the audience we have never
26:16
done like whether it's uh whether it's like a tech Showdown style buildoff or
26:20
whether it's a scrapyard Wars we have never done anything like that with a
26:26
Team Battle
26:31
so we're formally inviting you guys to
26:34
participate with us but we are going to
26:38
leave this up to the audience oh oh boy
26:44
is this like a is this like a rap battle SL battle or is this just straight up
26:49
the whole time it better be rap battle do you want to
26:53
see me and Luke get destroyed by these guys cars
27:02
bumping or do you want to see Luke and I
27:06
each pick who we think is the best of BS
27:10
mods oh oh wow and split the two dream
27:16
teams and make them compete against each other oh man so I'm going to create a
27:21
Twitter pole here guys and uh yeah we
27:25
we're we're going to do this you guys have you guys have been working on this
27:29
haven't you you just didn't pull that out of the hat which team the live
27:33
decision was out of the Hat oh the team battle was not really okay okay so I'm
27:39
I'm creating this so lonus and Luke versus BS mods oh well I guess you guys
27:45
are just BSM there you go or actually here no
27:50
let's just do uh LMG versus BS mods
27:55
or uh split the team
27:59
okay all right all right let's let's tweet this let's tweet this puppy and
28:02
let's uh let's have a look at those at those results as they come in I will
28:06
share that link with you guys in the twitch chat here I need you all to vote
28:09
and I need you guys to be serious here okay because this could determine
28:13
although I retain my veto Powers uh
28:17
this this could determine how this is going to go down so in the meantime why
28:23
don't we go back to back to sort of the the regular Twitter boards here and see
28:27
what you guys have submitted that you'd like us to talk about from the show so
28:32
oh man of course the the entire the entire Twitter feed is full of like team
28:37
Team Battle scrapyard Wars team Team Battle Tech
28:40
Showdown um okay so Jordan Leighton asks
28:44
what's up with the 8K stuff there at a certain point isn't more KS just useless
28:49
have you spent much time on the show do you see any of the 8K stuff I have seen zero okay have you guys seen any 8K
28:54
stuff this year yeah we did see a couple what do you think if if you're going big
29:00
I mean these huge displays you know 80 plus inches AK is cool but where do you
29:05
get content no that's a you know yeah it
29:09
those demos look so beautiful on these ultra thin screens and it's like okay I
29:14
don't think Dish Network's quite pump in AK well you just watch those demos and
29:18
loop over and over and over I mean now
29:22
I'm kind of offended by this to be perfectly honest because I'd like to
29:26
point out to you guys that there are a lot of you know great YouTube creators
29:31
out there okay sure making a lot of great content right and YouTube actually
29:36
does support 8K at this time wow it
29:39
doesn't look any better than you know a Blu-ray at 1080p because of the bit rate
29:45
but I'm still going to sit here and be offended because that's the kind of guy I am you got your 8K camera he said I
29:50
didn't well I don't know you like a drama sign
29:56
over yeah okay so so in response to Jordan my I mean my whole take on 8K is
30:01
that unless you are unless we're talking
30:05
about 8K displays that sit about this far in front of your face in a VR
30:11
headset I'm really not that interested
30:14
because even 720p to 1080p I can really
30:19
tell like that's that's that's very noticeable to me definitely but it's not
30:25
like the jump from you know 480p to 720p
30:29
either the difference between watching a
30:33
a DVD versus a 70 and 480 yeah yes so
30:38
the difference between a 480p DVD and a
30:41
720p video is huge the difference
30:45
between 720p and 1080p is definitely more enjoyable and I'm talking on like a
30:49
55 in TV in a normal sized living room like what like what 90 99% of people are
30:56
at or below right now and the jump from
31:01
1080p to 4K is
31:04
like oh yeah oh yeah I can see it but by
31:08
the first you know three minutes of the movie that I'm watching I've completely
31:12
forgotten about it yeah definitely because that's what movies are you know
31:17
watching a movie unless you're some kind of you know Cinema equipment buff like
31:22
Brandon is not about the technique that
31:25
they used to blah blah blah blah it's
31:30
and even for him it's not about the
31:33
resolution so the only people that care about that there's the guys that sit
31:37
down and watch a movie for the escapism and that's I think most people then
31:42
there's the guys that are getting into the techniques behind it and then
31:46
there's the guys who are just straight Gearheads and just want to know that a
31:50
higher number camera and more of those cameras was used to make it sorry they
31:55
shot it in a 4K stereo 3D no that's not good enough we need 6K
32:01
stereo 3D I mean the reality of it is is one of the most popular digital cameras
32:06
digital film cameras in Hollywood right now the Ari Alexa is a 2.5k camera that
32:12
image is considered acceptable by Hollywood directors who are you know
32:16
super easy to please with with the equipment that they use and super you
32:19
know flexible and that stuff that's considered good enough for a movie
32:23
theater and and I bet you didn't
32:26
notice so so I'm personally not sold on
32:30
8K with that said I think that for for
32:34
very very closely positioned displays uh
32:37
particularly for VR it cannot come soon enough and I love that the displays are
32:41
coming so that the display interface technology can catch up so that the
32:45
content ecosystem can be built so it can become mainstream so people can demand
32:49
it and they can feel like oh if we make this then people will think we're a cool company I look forward to all that stuff
32:54
but not for not so that I can have an 8K TV
32:58
just so you guys know right now we're waiting for another update on the polls but currently it's 52% and 48% really
33:05
that's cool it was sitting 5050 for a long time currently it's 5248 currently
33:09
leaning towards LMG versus interesting a big
33:15
Showdown you know we still got to remain friends after this so we got to make
33:19
sure it's like Mario Party man we cut
33:23
ties uh Jordan also asked what happened in the ASUS Booth you seemed pretty
33:27
salty oh no no I I love those guys they're great guys uh no no salt no salt
33:33
whatsoever I do not like going to shows
33:39
and being shown something that people won't tell me what it is because I want
33:44
to bring you guys the most complete information that I can but the only
33:49
reason that laptop drove me so
33:54
crazy was that it surprised me they were
33:58
doing something I didn't understand that form factor and that CPU should not have
34:04
been running continuously without throttling and they were really
34:09
smug they were super smug they were
34:16
like that was that was exactly the look on my face I asked about it and everyone
34:21
in the booth turned to me and went okay that's not quite how it went
34:26
guarantee that going happen I wasn't salty but I was pushing them pretty hard
34:31
including pressuring them publicly through the video to tell me what's up
34:35
so I could tell you guys they they
34:38
wouldn't they didn't and I can't tell you anything other than that that looks
34:42
like a very impressive little
34:45
notebook um okay Luke your thoughts on
34:48
egpu technology is it becoming viable for the average consumer now that we
34:52
have USB 3.1 Thunderbolt uh I haven't actually seen
34:57
many of those devices here I've literally seen zero g Gigabyte had one I
35:03
did not see it or excuse me MSI MSI had
35:06
one they didn't show it on their oh well was over on the system side you were
35:09
focused on component over okay okay okay okay to be completely Fair I've seen
35:13
none of the new ones so not very many then do you want me to do you want me to
35:18
kind of like describe what what has were systems at the show so yeah okay so so I
35:22
saw a couple of them I saw razer's core
35:25
which is quite small uh beautiful
35:28
aluminum construction man did they ever nail that did you guys see it yes that
35:33
very very nice how thick is that aluminum is that three four mil yeah
35:37
probably probably 3 mil really really
35:41
thick um and they've made it toolless so you can actually just pop out a handle
35:46
you slide the whole thing out like it feels kind of like a like a server blade
35:51
or something like you kind of Slide the whole thing out and you can change out the graphics card and shoot click back
35:56
in like really really nice
36:00
um the one thing that's not ready yet is
36:03
both ASUS and Razer are talking about hot plug okay hot plug PCI Express is
36:10
not easy it's not simple it requires BIOS cooperation it requires driver
36:14
cooperation on both NVIDIA's side and
36:18
Intel's side it is not simple and for
36:21
both of them I basically yanked out the cords crashed the systems um and was
36:28
like okay so it's not working yet and they're like no but by the time the
36:32
product comes and I think they're both looking at sort of the next two to four
36:36
months time frame they're both expecting to have it working because that was one
36:41
of the things that was kind of cluggy about the gs30 shadow MSI's uh like
36:46
giant dock thing that their that their laptop went on top of was that you had
36:50
to shut down the system in order to switch modes and then turn it back on
36:54
MSI actually has a new dock so that's the third one that I saw this year which
36:58
is not USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt so their
37:02
new dock is much Slimmer it's uh it's
37:06
much better looking but it still has that same connector so it's actually
37:10
forward and backwards compatible is my understanding um and we'll work with
37:14
multiple different notebooks from their lineup their solution has a couple of
37:18
advantages number one is that it's PCI e6x as if anyone really cares about that
37:24
because the performance is not really a factor um PCIe 3.0 forx is just fine for
37:30
an external GPU but they are sticking
37:34
with that large like more than PCI
37:38
e-shaped connector so that they can have additional devices that operate in the
37:41
dock so that they can have that full bandwidth and they are willing to trade
37:46
off the the ability to hot plug it
37:50
because I think from their perspective the user should not be hot plugging a
37:53
GPU at this point in time so MSI who I
37:56
considered a front runner in external graphics cards on
38:01
laptops um back when we covered the gs30 shadow last year is kind of going well
38:07
hold on everybody let's slow down I don't think we're ready for this um
38:12
another thing that I really need to know before I can talk about how amazing this
38:16
is is what is interoperability going to look like uh Razer wasn't quite as Cy as
38:22
ASUS about this where Razer said we're validating on the blade Ste
38:28
and if it works on other stuff great ASUS is maybe thinking about locking it
38:33
down wow so it would only work on at you
38:37
know presumably an Rog but it would only work on an ASUS laptop with USB 3.1 and
38:43
Thunderbolt 3 um msis is obviously
38:46
completely proprietary and if it's tied down to
38:51
this model of laptop or this brand of laptop then it takes away a lot of the a
38:56
lot of the benefit of swappable Graphics
39:00
right which is that you can upgrade your system kind of Peace meal as you go hey
39:03
I need more GPU horsepower now and then oh my GPU is actually still okay but
39:07
maybe it's time for time to trade in the old laptop if that's not an option then
39:11
I think that really hurts the solution with the final piece of the puzzle being
39:16
price no one is talking about it uh so
39:19
Luke you remember back when we did that magma 3T thing right yeah yeah yeah uh
39:24
so we covered an old Thunderbolt like
39:28
quite large like like the width of a shoe box thing um that actually accepted
39:32
three addin cards and I I had understood
39:36
because I was wrong um that it would work with graphics cards and that thing
39:40
was like $900 neither Razer norus would comment
39:45
on price other than to I got kind of a
39:49
vibe from men at Razer that the core
39:53
should be less than that did you start
39:56
at one and go is it two is it three is
40:00
it four no I I had a poor strategy going
40:03
into it I started at that thing was $8.99 and he went okay it's not that
40:09
which actually doesn't even necessarily mean cheaper now that I think about
40:13
it an update we're at almost 2,000 votes it's now
40:17
5545 wow that's closer than I thought I thought everybody go straight up just
40:21
like let's tear them apart you know really so they want to see LMG versus BS
40:27
mods R oh Bo very interesting we tried
40:30
lus so they just want a good run they like to see me eat Humble Pie yeah I
40:36
think uh oh man uh oh okay this question is from
40:41
Kylie kefir when can we get the WAN hoodies that I am wearing by the way uh
40:47
all LMG staff are now equipped with uh
40:51
with the with the Linus Tech tips W hoodies we actually had them bring a few
40:56
early samples to the show so we could wear them in the videos and wear them
41:00
out about as kind of like a team uniform thank you thank you hoodie model 3 um oh
41:06
that's straight up Gangster right there V do do you know when the shipments
41:10
arrive like do we know I'm getting I'm getting the old um so it's better to
41:15
promise nothing and deliver something eventually than to promise a date and
41:20
even deliver something eventually after that date so we're going to go with Deno
41:26
uh we are definitely have more Noctua fans in a couple of months and if the
41:31
WAN hoodie which by the way like I
41:34
apologize but it was expensive to make and there's a lot of logistics that goes
41:38
into it there's margins for the resellers uh the L hoodie is going to be
41:42
$99 us if the WAN hoodie is a success for us
41:47
I will promise that you guys will see
41:50
more stuff like this in the future from us because we think there's really a lot
41:54
more to to our merch than just just printing a logo on a T-shirt and we want
41:59
to really explore some of the other cool ideas that especially edel has for for
42:04
stuff that we can do have you guys like this yet it looks I was just admiring it
42:07
it looks pretty high quality good thread count you know I mean Egyptian cotton
42:12
yeah right what is this what is this
42:15
silk Chinese silk sheets yeah
42:18
right um Luke do you want to talk about the HTC Vive the Vive made a lot of big
42:24
changes I haven't actually been able to meet with HTC yet okay but you tried it
42:28
though right I have tried it in the paint application which is actually
42:32
actually a good demo I know it sounds boring but the paint application you get
42:36
to move around in 3D space and basically you have uh what a brush ESS you can
42:42
change different things you done have you tried the new Vibe on it yeah yeah
42:47
what did you guys think I love it it's he spent awesome a long time I mean he
42:51
spends a lot of time in a paint booth already but I had some fun I was like
42:55
the virtual paint booth Bob was like gone I created a whole like Campground
42:59
with like grass and a tree and fire and
43:03
and a sign and all kinds of stuff so they they give you crazy effects and stuff the reason why I think the paint
43:07
demo is actually really good for a Vive and the reason why a lot of people give
43:10
the paint demo is because you can move around in 3D space with the being spaced
43:14
out and you can paint wherever you want with the controllers so like you said
43:17
make a campground you could probably walk through the camp absolutely it's
43:21
just like as if you could spray paint into the air and have it stick to the
43:25
air right where it is and just then you can just move all around andain just
43:29
crazy basically yeah they've made some changes this is
43:33
the part that I don't know about cuz I hav't met with them yet there's now a camera on the front of the Vive right
43:39
heard about that I'm not entirely sure what the intention for that is there's a
43:42
lot of different ideas people are throwing around one of them is like
43:45
literally so if someone calls you on your computer you could like pass
43:49
through and then see what's going on or if you're still worried about the bounds
43:53
of the sensors and you're like I really feel like I'm going to run into something you could pass through and
43:56
check you without taking it off having to realign and maybe you smudged a lens
44:01
with your oily hair and now you have to clean it or something like that CRA it's
44:05
genuinely annoying so it's may be nice for a pass through the controllers
44:09
though I don't know what's going on with the controllers before the controllers
44:13
were a like touchpad on the top fa
44:17
standard setup now it's still a touchpad but there's this ring yeah and I have no
44:22
idea what the ring is about I'm wondering if it's trying to up the
44:26
accurac when you're on til I felt like when you twisted it that might be what it was for
44:31
and it seemed to be accurate that way too it did seem to be very accurate and
44:34
it had less jumping and disconnects than the previous controllers did very smooth
44:38
but like that's a crazy design so I don't know I still need to meet with HTC
44:43
to figure out what the heck they're doing once the helmet's on though you don't you don't see it so you know see
44:48
your things you know so it feels like the I'm just wondering uh I don't think
44:52
it's a bad thing I'm just wondering why they decided to do it and it seems to be
44:56
more accurate so that's great I'm just wondering what the theory behind it is
44:59
or if that's all there is there might be something more I don't really worry about that too much cuz I figure you
45:03
know you already look weird anyway walking around with something on your head so you know what what does it
45:08
matter at that point but no I'm sure there's a reason for it but one of the
45:11
biggest things I noticed here though was um a lot of people have been fighting
45:15
about exclusives over the VR headsets I haven't weighed in that a ton because
45:20
they're not out yet we're not seeing what's going on I think I kind of really
45:23
get it now the demos that you're seeing that are really good good on the Vive
45:28
right even that aren't exclusive are not the demos that you're seeing that are
45:32
really good on the Oculus they're different strengths they're better at
45:35
different things and I don't even really care about the exclusives a lot of those
45:39
games I wouldn't want to play on the other one anyways right I don't know so
45:43
okay I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm GNA cut this topic in half uh with a shout out
45:48
for Squarespace for allowing us to be here at CES 2016 guys if you want to
45:57

46:22
onto that template I'm going to arrange them like this and whether it's a blog
46:26
site whether it's a store or whether it's a portfolio like you know if you
46:32
build custom computer cases say for example and you just wanted a simple
46:36
TurnKey solution hey you know we're done a rig snap snap snap here's a gallery

47:02
build it beautiful thank you Luke no so let's go back to um the followup
47:08
question this one is actually from uh 10day tende day Dongo that cannot be a
47:14
real name and if it is cool man
47:18
um so so you just said you left off as a
47:21
refresher you left off saying the excl the exclusive titles here I wouldn't
47:26
necessarily even want to play here so then what I gather from that is that
47:31
much like many hardcore console Gamers would obviously own a Wii U a
47:36
PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One hold on I'm going somewhere with this
47:40
okay is your and it's a two-part question is your expectation that you
47:45
and other hardcore VR enthusiasts are
47:49
just going to have to Pony up and buy both or or all and part two of the
47:56
question is so let's talk then about how
47:59
much that's going to cost now that we know the price of the Oculus Rift and
48:03
there there's interesting debate on the price of the Oculus Rift and I might not
48:07
be on the side that everyone necessarily thinks I'm on I'm not even really on a
48:10
side I think there's Fair Arguments for both
48:14
um yes and no especially looking at the
48:17
New York apartment argument which is people don't have as much space as they
48:21
used to wherever you happen to be but especially in a New York apartment the
48:25
Vive is actually really difficult sell I've seen very awesome demos on the Vive
48:30
like incredible demos the Everest demo that NVIDIA has been showing off like
48:35
super cool if you can get a setup in your house where you have like an ice
48:38
box behind a fan and you wear like a parka and you do the Everest demo no
48:42
seriously it's awesome because they used actual footage from Everest it's it's
48:48
not like a random some guy tried to see how accurately he could recreate it like
48:52
you're on Everest and it's the high really high resolution screen it's it's
48:56
amazing but you need a lot of space for that so
49:00
I don't think the adoption is going to be as high and I think a lot of it going to come down to someone going oh I have
49:06
the space to be able to get a Vive maybe I'm going to do that or someone going I
49:11
kind of need a seated experience that just has a little sensor in front of me
49:15
I'm going to get a rift I and then some people being like YOLO I have enough
49:19
space and gratuitous amounts of money I'm going to buy both I think buying
49:23
both and have a gaming rig having a gaming rig that's fast enough is going
49:26
to be a little bit of a hard sell for the average person because that's a lot
49:30
of money because I don't see the Vive being that much cheaper or cheaper at
49:34
all I don't know okay so then now that you've said that you don't see the Vive
49:39
being cheaper talk about talk about 599 $599 is expensive and I know Oculus
49:44
talked early on about how they're trying to not make like they're they're not
49:49
going into to make huge amounts of money on the headset and I know the development kits were
49:54
cheaper but if you line them all up and
49:58
you look at the years that they've been out for I know it's been a while since
50:02
development kit 1 but you pick up development kit one and it feels like
50:05
crap it feels clunky the screen is terrible Nothing fits very well the
50:10
velcro straps are like basically literally from a ski mask like
50:15
it's the bomb cost isn't that high you go to DK2 it steps up a lot it gets a
50:21
lot better but there's still some problems there's still a bit of weight there uh the foam is nah there 's a lot
50:27
of n all over the place you get to Consumer version one the foam is
50:31
replaceable so that after you have it for a long time if you're sweating into
50:34
it or whatever it's not gross the the materials are really good they feel very
50:39
solid and they're very light which is an expensive thing to do the sensors in it
50:43
are very accurate it's extremely smooth the screen looks great lately
50:47
everything's really good they have a new sensor stand which is fantastic all that
50:51
stuff is great people are complaining about the included controller the Xbox
50:54
controller not a huge fan about that either either I don't really care I
50:58
would rather be able to just buy that on its own they're uh complaining about the
51:02
included Oculus controller something Palmer has said and I do believe him
51:06
however is that those didn't even massively impact the cost of the setup
51:11
and they aren't making a ton of it on it and everything that's inside the headset
51:15
is really expensive now I'm going to believe that I'm going to jump in and
51:19
say yes the headset is really expensive
51:22
but one thing I wish it was cheaper too one thing that bothers me a little bit
51:27
is that well not bothers me a little bit but I guess it's sort of kind of like I
51:32
told you so you you guys had this coming I mean Oculus For Better or For Worse
51:38
had expectations out there that it was
51:41
going to cost in the neighborhood if I think we can all agree we all thought it was going to be $250 to
51:45
$400 was that kind of the the perception
51:49
I was I would probably reach 300 or 450
51:52
was my expectation so like yeah I two I
51:55
was going to say that but then I figure some people are probably pretty optimistic sure yeah yeah yeah so from
52:00
the kickstarter campaign and you know from kind of the way that was structured
52:04
and from the way that they talked and the way that they never corrected anybody yeah and I think they and then
52:10
yeah even worse that was the expectation
52:14
that was kind of the number in the backs of people's heads for Better or For Worse then when the Facebook acquisition
52:19
happened a lot of the justification a
52:22
lot of the reason we're doing this was to make it more affordable
52:27
for everyone so I think people were kind of running around thinking oh well that
52:32
perception I had before well maybe now that that Facebook's basically dumping
52:37
buckets of cash into this maybe they're just going to sell them all at a you
52:40
know a $100 loss maybe I can pick up an Oculus Rift for for $199 by the time it
52:46
launches and I think even though they never confirmed that either the fact
52:52
that they let us think something without coming out and saying look it's going to be over $500 because they wanted the
52:56
hype train they wanted people to at least talk about it cuz I know a lot of
53:00
people who won't talk about something that costs more than $500 because it
53:03
might as well be a Bentley for them like it's true though it's not
53:08
affordable um and I think they let that
53:11
happen I think they let that perception remain and they used that PR line about
53:16
the Facebook acquisition which I don't think anyone's really upset about anymore in order to to smooth things
53:21
over with the community and then they Dro this bomb on the community oh by the
53:24
way it's $600 which in Canadian Rupees
53:28
after taxes is going to be about $1,000 yeah seriously not taxes and shipping
53:33
it's about a grand it will cost almost as much as a VR capable gaming PC wow
53:40
almost as much yeah you do need a lot of power side note super interested into
53:45
benchmarking for VR that's going to be actually really fun but yeah it's I
53:50
can't disagree with any of that I'm actually not that surprised by its price once I tried on the consumer version one
53:55
the first time I immediately knew it was going to be way more expensive they
53:59
ditched certain things and I think this actually came with it's an interesting
54:03
point that you talked about the Facebook acquisition I think this came with the
54:06
Facebook acquisition but later on I think Facebook wasn't necessarily okay
54:11
with the idea of ski goggle straps right
54:14
because they're super not ski goggle straps anymore there's this thing that
54:19
kind of sits on the back of your head and it's great and the velcro straps are way more high quality now you don't get
54:23
your hair stuck in them really anymore like the fit and finish has jumped
54:28
massive amounts and in talking to people
54:31
from Oculus you point at something and they're like yeah that material was
54:35
really expensive like I don't think they necessarily wanted this to get really
54:40
expensive but Facebook was probably going this needs to be social this needs
54:45
to be comfortable to wear Financial analysts are looking at I went to vrx
54:49
financial analysts are looking at this going you need to be able to come home
54:54
and play a game for 6 hours constantly on this thing and then go to bed fit and
54:58
finish Comfort wearability went through the roof and cost materials went through
55:02
the roof right it happened to the Vive
55:06
too the new version of the Vive that came out here is way more comfortable
55:09
than it used to be is way more uh way less rickety than it used to be all the
55:15
stuff in the VR space feels way more solid and feels way more expensive
55:19
although I'm thinking that it might be okay for
55:22
the Target customer base before you stab me um it's extremely hard to run a game
55:29
at acceptable rates for VR and before
55:33
you say like oh my computer can run
55:37
games at 90fps you're going to want really high
55:41
settings and you need 90 FPS to be like your
55:45
minimum it's going to be really hard you're going to need a need a badass rig
55:50
to be able to run this so I don't really see that many people going like H I'm
55:55
going to spend this much money on my computer in order to run VR when if the
56:00
VR headset was 200 bucks cheaper they would be able to do it right so you're
56:05
saying anyone who's got the disposable income to build a dual 980 TI rig can
56:10
afford an Oculus Rift or if someone has that amount of disposable income and
56:14
they were going to buy a rift I don't see $200 more being that difficult for
56:18
them I see $200 more being impossible
56:22
for a lot of people right but I think those people might not be having 980 TI
56:28
rigs multiple 980ti rigs right maybe they do I don't know this is random
56:33
speculation that I have the twitch shot is probably murdering me right now no
56:36
actually okay I'm quite surprised it's crazy the overall cost of a rig when you
56:41
talk about it's really high it's really
56:44
high and VR and that's the thing right now monitors are exploding people are
56:47
looking at the the that PG monitor that runs at 165 HZ it's over a grand in
56:53
Canada um so if you're if you compare
56:56
that ultrawide experience to maybe I don't go Ultra wide and I go VR so then
57:01
tell me this okay so I think we can probably turning into the VR show um and
57:06
it is kind of a big deal at CES this year like the VR section of the show
57:09
floor is like everywhere okay just kind of try and move through here um so so so
57:15
there's various stages of adoption right now I think at
57:20
$600 where it really has zero functionality outside of games and Tech
57:25
demos yeah we're talking like the same people who are running around buying
57:29
Google Glass and this this this is something that lonus and I talk used to
57:32
talk about more but always talk about on the L show which is maybe you don't buy
57:36
version one yes version one isn't the killer version version one is the like
57:41
the people that are crazy about it will probably go for it and have probably
57:45
been planning to be going for it for a while and then later and this is again
57:50
there was this crazy financial analyst that was at vrx and it was really
57:53
interesting to hear him talk he was saying he put up some price ranges he
57:57
said if it's over $1,000 he doesn't think it's going to make it if it's high
58:02
range within $1,000 he thinks there will be hardcore adapters or adopters and
58:07
hopefully the industry can push forward which is interesting because that looks
58:10
like exactly what just happened um if it's low like under 500 bucks he thinks
58:15
it's going to be really good um but he's not sure if that's possible and once you
58:19
get to like $100 for a capable one no
58:24
see but this is going to be way down the line once you're able to buy one of these for 100s and it's still a really
58:28
good experience that's when it explodes so I think there's a stage in between
58:33
and that's when it still costs you know
58:37
$600 to $1,000 but it's functional Beyond just
58:42
gaming and and Tech demos and even social interaction like I think if they
58:47
can and stuff we were talking about no what I'm talking about actually is if
58:52
cuz we we talk about the ultra wide monitors and how many of those moving at
58:57
$700 or or you look back at any development in monitor technology let's
59:02
let's treat it like a monitor for a second whether it's 1440p uh you know 27
59:06
in when that happened or whether it's Ultra wide now or whether it's 4K that
59:11
six to $700 price point is actually
59:14
palatable for Creative Professionals for high-end consumers and for people who
59:20
who like shiny toys but they do these aren't the people also who are just like
59:25
you know whatever so once it has a functionality
59:29
Beyond games then I think we can talk
59:32
and if they get the resolution high enough it can be a virtual monitor
59:37
because they they have the virtual monitor idea but you're you're right the
59:40
the resolution isn't there yet yeah and this is again the maybe the next version
59:44
thing so what you're saying is if it's good enough to be like a Workhorse if I
59:48
don't need to buy it on top of my ultra wide for productivity now you've got my
59:53
attention especially like let's say I'm a day trader for example you get the
59:57
resolution high enough those guys can never have enough monitors those guys if
60:01
they can have virtual monitor space all
60:05
around New York apartment right well you can set up that essentially the the
60:09
crazy Star Wars computer thing that everyone loves which is the monitors in
60:12
a complete circle around them you could just spin around in your chair yes we
60:16
have to figure out cables and stuff but people like orus at Gigabyte are working
60:20
on that resolution has to be better but if you can deliver that then I think
60:24
that opens up that opens up an in between stage where it can still be very
60:28
expensive but if it does more than just you know what I do for you know two
60:33
hours on a Friday night after my kids go to bed then I think you're able to
60:38
access a lot more people and to be fair
60:41
the financial analyst that was talking opened up with I know nothing about VR
60:46
right but I do a lot of financial analysis on the tech Bas so he doesn't
60:49
know about the potential for those things and that's a really interesting
60:53
bit of input yeah yeah so I don't know
60:56
I'm I'm not 100% against to the cost I'm not happy that it's a th000 Canadian
61:01
dollars to get one yeah are you buying one uh Probably sounds like it no just
61:07
wasn't happen it must be I mean I have to because if we're going to Benchmark
61:11
games in VR like you already bought the lineus Media Group one right so L
61:16
unforunately missed the first shipping window that is a shame okay I know we
61:20
had some issues with the credit card anyway we did that's unfortunately what
61:23
caused the Miss in the shipping window so minus Media Group is going to have
61:27
one we are going to be bringing you guys a proper formal review um as soon as we
61:33
possibly can now that we have a PR contact maybe
61:37
we can get at least at the very least maybe we can get our order bumped yeah
61:41
no I I'm planning on talking to him about that I still haven't received a
61:44
message probably tomorrow I'm expecting so so the sooner we can get on that the
61:48
better and we are going to bring you gaming
61:52
benchmarks and I have some ideas for those they won't just be done the same
61:56
way we do them now yeah yeah so uh so so
61:59
that's done but in terms of you know what I'm
62:03
out what I'm not buying one oh yeah I didn't expect you to I was going to oh
62:08
okay when I thought it was $299 to 399 us a few things changed number one is
62:14
the pric is sort of 60% to double what I
62:18
or 6 166% to 200% of what I thought it
62:22
was going to be so that's number one number two is the Canadian dollar is
62:25
falling about 25% since that time adding another
62:30
couple of hundred to the cost I haven't ordered one yet and that's actually
62:35
strictly because of the Canadian dollar so so I'm so I'm out um you know I might
62:40
tool around with it at work but that's a
62:43
work device that sits at work that's for us to do work on um and I will not own
62:48
one personally because I just am not in a position right now where that makes
62:52
sense for me so you know what we need to hear from
62:58
you guys yeah we need to do we need to do another Twitter poll yeah so there's
63:02
there's actually this is like this is a two-part this is a two-part answer right
63:06
here so let's let's get this poll going
63:10
oculus rift at
63:13
$600 so was was going okay um okay was
63:21
going to buy they don't give you a lot of
63:24
characters still no ah okay we're just no I'm just going
63:29
to do this really simple so was
63:32
still am
63:35
okay was not
63:40
anymore and uh let's go with um wasn't
63:45
and then uh am now and one thing that I
63:48
want to add here is that um there are a
63:52
number of demos that almost no one has tried
63:56
which are flat out insanely
63:59
incredible um one that I was able to try at NVIDIA last night and I don't think
64:04
has been shown very much this one's not the like no one who's tried this um but
64:09
bullet train have you guys played bullet train no I haven't bullet train is a
64:13
game made by epic and it's a standing
64:17
experience for Oculus it's a standing in
64:20
pivot experience you're not supposed to walk around um it's based on
64:24
teleportation slow down of time and firefights wow you you teleport around
64:30
to different areas where there are firearms that you can pick up and say
64:34
it's a shotgun you have to actually pump it um if it's a rifle it's really
64:38
inaccurate unless you hold it with both hands and you have to like actually position your hands properly uh if you
64:42
slow down time you can grab bullets out of the air and throw them back at people
64:46
the one boss that I was able to fight I have to catch a missile out of the air
64:49
and redirect it and then and like it's going to be at a weird angle and you
64:52
have to like and then redirect it and shoot it back at them
64:56
incredibly fun W right and like there's I'm finally starting to see games other
65:01
than Valkyrie that are like wow I really
65:04
want to play that so yeah and it does
65:08
include two games um a lot of consoles
65:11
when they first come out won't include a game and then later will include a game you get Lucky's tail and you get
65:16
Valkyrie with it and basically everyone's going to buy Valkyrie so you
65:20
can take some out of the costs if you consider that cuz buying an buying a
65:25
rift and not buy a game makes no sense right um and buying a rift and not
65:29
buying Valkyrie for most people I kind of think makes no sense okay so uh I
65:34
want to do the results of the LMG versus BS mods or split the teams thing first
65:39
so uh 60% of you are saying it's going to be LMG versus BS mods so unless I
65:44
decide to veto it because I'm like ah I don't want to lose that badly um that
65:49
looks like the route we're going to go timeline TBD these guys are really busy
65:53
we're really busy we got to make sure it works for everyone
65:56
now let's have a look at the results for did you ask them before the show at all
66:00
no we've T we've talked to them about the possibilities very I've been like
66:03
very light pitches over a while but yeah you guys were kind of like hinting
66:07
little things but uh yeah the opportunity you guys are down right well
66:11
you know we can uh we'll come up with a handicap of some kind you know I mean
66:15
we'll do like maybe uh I think we're going to ride hoverboards well yeah yeah
66:20
moding or something on yeah something like that
66:24
yeah mod the computer with your feet only yeah that might be fair well I
66:27
could like while if I'm doing some paint I could put a blindfold on Rod can
66:31
direct me with the gun and then you know
66:34
I mean we'll just we'll work something out to help you guys out a little bit
66:38
okay so um much two minutes so here's the final
66:45
answer then we've got 11% of you a mere
66:49
11% that say you intended to buy the
66:52
rift and you still intend to buy the
66:55
rift we've got the page taking a little while to load I wanted to refresh it there we
67:00
go we've got 33% of you in the lonus
67:04
camp you intended to buy one you are not buying one anymore we've got 3% of you
67:10
that have changed your minds the other way you didn't intend to buy one but now
67:13
you're down and a massive 53% of you
67:16
never intended to buy one and still don't intend to very interesting
67:21
obviously these aren't like you know scientifically derived results or
67:26
anything like that but uh there you go it looks like there's a lot more people
67:31
who feel the way that I do than I actually thought because I do wonder if
67:34
part of that um is letting everything B
67:38
out the shock yes and yes and something
67:42
else the one that I had but I think you're both right um which is the the
67:47
benchmarking performance right I think a lot of people are going into this like
67:50
oh yeah I want an Oculus it's super cool yeah yeah and then they see any price
67:54
tag they get to any form of checkout and they're like wait can I do this like I'm
67:58
going to have to upgrade my system I need a better GPU I want a new platform
68:02
I need okay this cost looks like more than just the head I note right I wonder
68:07
how much this would change after somebody actually tries it that's a huge
68:13
thing too one of oculus is biggest things is they need to use Best Buy as
68:18
weird as that is and they need to get demos out and people need to play bullet
68:22
train and people need to play Valkyrie and people need to play um um whatever
68:26
CCP ends up calling sorry CCP but your Tron game um and they need to be able to
68:31
try all these different things and it's
68:34
I don't know yeah we'll see how it actually ends up in I guess once think
68:39
it might play out maybe like the Wii a little bit where it took a while to get
68:42
going it was at a lower price point but then it just kind of took off because it
68:46
was such a new experience the lower price point helped it it's it sure won't
68:50
be it sure won't be 3D Vision where they did get the demos out there and people
68:54
did try and and they still didn't buy it yeah yeah yeah bullet train like you had
68:59
your set amount of demo time and you ran through the one scenario that was all it
69:03
was like you walked this way and then you walked that way and then you fought
69:07
and then everything was done and I tried to get in line literally as many times
69:12
as I possibly could you're that guy yeah but like there was other people doing it
69:16
too there was some uh chick who was totally not interested NVIDIA games or
69:20
VR at all but they had her try it just cuz she was there and she went back I
69:25
think two or three so like it's a thing
69:28
it's really expensive and I don't want anyone to break the bank on it not what
69:32
