0:05 things that hopefully matter very very much to all of you and if they don't

0:11 then I'm I apologize sincerely for that we have we have an unusual show for you

0:16 today this is the first time in quite a while that we do not have a special

0:21 guest so I had actually reached out to a couple folks but I mean it's the holiday

0:26 season and people are all over the place yes and see es is we're going to be I

0:31 mean we're flying out tomorrow so um it's just not that surprising to me that

0:36 no one was able to do it today so it's just going to be you and me and him

0:45 simultaneously all right we've got some great topics for this week guys uh so

0:49 number one and this is huge is for the

0:52 first time that I'm aware of um valve

0:55 has outright removed a game from Steam and I'm not talking about like removed

1:00 it from the store for purchase I mean that's happened with all kinds of things

1:04 I'm talking about it is gone people who bought it it is completely gone from

1:09 their libraries uh We've also got some really exciting stuff with respect to ey

1:14 tracking so steel series is going to be showing off a technology that is going

1:18 to allow you to use ey tracking to interface with your computer and then

1:23 what else we got whoa I was working on other things um we also have a NASA

1:28 using a Oculus Rift and a connect to

1:32 control a robotic ARM which is actually really cool and we have USB 100 W power

1:38 or up to 100 wat power 20 volts 5 amps

1:41 so that's also really interesting yeah being able to being able to actually

1:45 power something like a monitor I mean we've seen USB monitors in the past but

1:49 they're like these slim low power like super not baller types of devices you

1:55 could you could easily power a pro off of this like a proper monitor off of a

1:59 US USB port which is uh which is crazy I

2:02 mean I I think that when you compare that to something like Thunderbolt all

2:07 of a sudden USB starts to look a lot more interesting yeah um anyway so guys

3:46 your videos on monetized platforms no actually YouTube's got a pretty cool

3:51 thing going on lately where what they've been doing is they they changed the

3:56 default So you you're and you can't change back unless you have a specific

4:02 agreement with your partner Network and ours isn't that sophisticated so I

4:06 haven't even asked them about it yet but I probably should at some point um no no

4:11 offense to anyone who might be watching anyway so you have to have a specific

4:15 agreement with your partner Network in order to change the default to Syndicate

4:19 the content everywhere and when I'm

4:22 uploading if I set it to everywhere as

4:25 soon as I make it public it reverts to to monetize platforms

4:30 so then once it's public I can go back in and I can change it I don't

4:33 understand why Mobile isn't a monetized platform some mobile platforms are some

4:38 of them aren't I think it depends on the app implementations like I think that

4:42 was part of the the whole thing where Microsoft and Google were at each

4:46 other's throats over the YouTube app on Windows Phone 8 because it enabled some

4:50 functionality that wasn't enabled on other platforms like ad free viewing I

4:54 believe was one of them and then downloading videos was another one that

4:58 uh Google wasn't particular pleased with right so I mean but with that said I

5:02 still don't think Microsoft was at fault there because Google was kind of acting

5:06 like buttheads even once Microsoft removed the functionality that was

5:09 supposedly offending them right so let's

5:13 move into our first topic and honestly this is one of those ones that's I don't

5:17 know is it Tech news is it not Tech news one thing's for sure certain in that is

5:22 that it was posted on the Linus Tech tips Forum which means that it qualifies

5:25 for consideration to be featured on the W show and number two is that it is

5:30 pretty darn adorable so this was posted by nice hat on the Forum and uh this is

5:35 night man is the game particularly good the answer is no not really I mean I

5:41 played point though I played it a little bit I know it isn't the point but is it

5:46 the point because hold on a second okay so I played it a little bit and like the

5:50 the the controls are just kind of frustrating and anything anyway so uh so

5:55 this was the original articles from well pixel proposal I guess is the actual

6:00 site where you can go to to play the game but um what 3D artist Robert fin

6:05 said was I couldn't allow myself to do a normal proposal it had to be special he

6:10 explained something we would remember forever to remind us where we started

6:14 Simple Times playing games together growing up and learning that games can

6:17 convey all sorts of emotion I wanted her to see all the spikes I would jump over

6:22 for her and I think it's I think it's very Charming I think it I think it if

6:26 you're G to publish the game then it

6:29 doesn't necessarily matter if it's up to a certain standard of quality but if

6:33 you're going to ask for donations for the game then it should probably be up

6:37 the donations were for the game I think the donations were in general right but

6:42 it's a donation button at the bottom of a game screen in a browser is it oh I I

6:47 only saw it on the whole website sorry on the but on the pixel proposal website

6:52 yeah but it's like a while away from the game I don't think the point is that you play the game I think the point is that

6:56 you watch a video okay well at any rate

7:00 if you guys want to see the reaction video It's it's super cute and I I think

7:04 you your favorite thing about it was sort of brutal

7:08 but my favorite thing about it was that it's it's not the most original thing

7:13 ever and the 86% at the end if you pay a

7:17 lot of attention and you watch through the whole video near the end it like

7:21 tracks how well you did in the game and it it tracks how many coins you

7:25 collected so she gathered whatever 86% of the coins was so at the end it fills

7:30 up a heart with all the coins and doesn't fully fill up the heart and then

7:34 even though it didn't fully like alongside of not fully filling up the

7:37 heart it said 86% you could do

7:41 better yeah it's funny because that's exactly what my parents said to my

7:49 wife it's like yeah he's an A but just

7:52 barely you know why not a yeah why not A+ I mean you're Asian you should strive

7:57 for the A+ I tried to like make it so that like a few people would

8:03 understand you didn't have to make it like super ridiculously anyways yeah

8:09 anyway so that was super cute but actually this was one that Luke added to

8:13 the document after the fact one that I hadn't seen that I think I actually kind

8:19 of like better okay it was less they're different yeah they're quite different

8:23 it was less work to do this but I think

8:27 that in terms of if you're gonna okay okay okay okay in terms of qualifying a

8:33 lady to be your partner forever if she

8:37 can beat

8:40 Contra yep right yep yep so what this

8:45 guy did is he he modded a Ness cartridge

8:49 so you can actually like badass modded check this out wires all over the place

8:54 and what I like about this guy is the other guy's a 3D artist already which

8:58 and I'm not saying creating the game wasn't difficult and it wasn't a lot of work and it wasn't a labra of love and

9:01 all that stuff it's awesome but this one was it's more like a regular dude who

9:06 kind of did his best he's not he doesn't seem to be any kind of special

9:10 programmer or anything like that had to fight his way really good job had to

9:14 fight his way through just figuring out how to operate a hex editor didn't even

9:18 get it quite working 100% right but what

9:22 he did manage to do was um what his like

9:26 lab and stuff yeah so here's his so like it's it's more like a general Workshop

9:30 like you can tell the guy who doesn't necessarily do all the electronic stuff

9:34 um but there's there's the NES console that he was presumably using for uh for

9:39 testing all right so here uh yeah there are all the

9:43 chips uh use note how many chips I went

9:46 through already up top so not an expert and then what he did was he he edited

9:51 the hex uh the hex data here in order to

9:55 change the names of the characters of the game to his and his wife's name

9:59 which I think is super cute so you can your player select is Quinn and Amy I

10:04 mean I don't know if his wife's that Butch looking in real life but if she is

10:08 then I'm not judging her that's I'm I'm kidding I know there's a picture of her

10:11 down below but uh I I really liked this one I thought it was super cute so he

10:16 made it so that at the end uh what did it say at the end there it

10:20 is a that's pretty cool and and and I I

10:24 I think the biggest thing about this is just the fact that you know what yeah if

10:29 she can if she can beat Contra on the nest then she's a

10:33 keeper that's pretty epic so yeah and

10:37 then that's them on Halloween that was taken earlier it's not like the yeah he

10:41 just wanted to show them yeah and he he left a very special note here no that is

10:47 not an upskirt she has shorts on so for those of you who were thinking hey I

10:51 need to see this in higher resolution just to you know double check and verify

10:56 aate what's going on in that picture there is nothing

10:59 going on in the picture grow up so we are having problems we are not dropping

11:03 frames we do not seem to be lagging on this network at all but like a ton of

11:08 people can't load the stream at all um

11:11 what am I supposed to do probably on twitch's end it's probably on here so

11:15 that people know that we're aware of it because I'm getting spammed on all

11:19 mediums about it right now so anyone that is watching which is probably

11:22 everyone that's not spamming me yep we're having problems okay all right so

11:27 moving on to our next topic here this is actually one of our headliner topics and

11:32 I know um you're you're an you're an

11:35 Oculus Rift dork and I get that but

11:39 interfaces are changing in general an

11:42 Oculus Rift is not like VR is not the

11:45 only way that interfaces are changing other ways to interface with things dork

11:50 I also bought Nia back in the day I was looking into getting that's just dumb I

11:55 was looking getting that's being a dumb gimmick dork I just I I like ways that I

11:59 can interface with things that isn't normal I find it very cool I think this is really cool do you even listen to

12:05 yourself anyway uh so this is a

12:09 collaborative project between Toby and

12:12 steel series well actually to Toby's the one with the technology steel series

12:16 presumably is investing and bringing it to Market so that's it's great to see

12:21 guys that are forward thinking like valve and and now steel series

12:25 partnering up with these technology companies to bring it to Gamers so there

12:30 are a couple of videos here that I would like to check out uh this one isn't one

12:35 of them let me just see if I can find the right one apparently it's a North

12:39 American twitch problem it seems like most streams are kind of unwatchable

12:43 right now okay so there you go guys if nothing else there will be the archive

12:47 what I would like to do is avoid spending too much time on the live show

12:51 talking about the issues so that the people who watch the archive of whom

12:55 there are actually more um don't have to sit through listening to us talk about

12:59 the issues with the live stream cuz they're not even watching live I'll tell

13:03 you why you're loading a video Yeah well no no I know I'm just I just mean in

13:07 general I'm explaining why I'm not cuz the chat's like lonus look at the chat

13:11 yeah I'm I'm aware of it we're just not going to talk about it for two minutes that's all all right so let's go ahead

13:16 and check out this video all right this is the Windows 8 has a start screen with

13:21 large tiles okay we're not going to listen to this guy and talk for two and a half minutes I'm sorry but basically

13:26 he's like okay interfaces are changing there's this natural swiping through

13:30 stuff thing that's going on but it's not great for the mouse because you have to

13:34 move these huge distances to hit these

13:38 huge icons and it's just not very optimal but what ey tracking will do is

13:43 is a couple of things it will allow you to actually interface directly with a UI

13:48 with your eyes or it could augment the

13:52 experience that you're having with other things like something where I see this

13:55 being really useful and he kind of hints at this in the video but it's not directly said is if you are touching

14:01 something and you know you kind of Miss by a bit but you're looking at this one

14:06 but you kind of are on the border between this one and that one it should

14:10 be able to in theory track your eyes and go well no he probably meant this one

14:15 and then another way that they show it and then another thing would be uh would

14:18 be well actually it would be mostly touch mostly touch for fine details once

14:22 this technology gets Advanced enough instead of clicking on something and

14:25 having a little whoop magnifying which one did you mean to I would love to be

14:29 like oh well he was looking at this word it's probably the one he meant to click on uh so that's extremely exciting and

14:33 then one of the other demos that they do later on in the video and this is more

14:37 of a uh more of a gaming relevant one where did that demo go I think the

14:41 StarCraft one yeah the I think that's in the other video is that in the other video so oh that is in the other video

14:46 okay because I liked that one too okay let's check out the other video so the

14:50 other video was a um was a Starcraft video and I guess that makes sense that

14:54 that's the that's the steel series collaborative one so navigating the mini

14:58 map maybe you can explain this one a little bit better so it's in in the

15:02 video it's kind of confusing if you can find it because what it shows in the video is it shows the mini map becoming

15:07 like full screen temporarily it's not really how it's going to work I'm pretty

15:10 sure I think he was just trying to show how the mini map moved so basically what

15:14 you could do is okay well this part's kind of cool

15:18 because it talks about just general interaction between the gamer and other

15:22 characters in the world like when you walk into a bar someone might nod at you

15:26 when they see you looking at them for but not before they see you looking at

15:30 them so when you walk in they might say like Greetings or something but then if

15:34 you're looking around doing whatever it's okay and then you look at the

15:37 bartender finally and he'll like nod at you to be like ask if you want to drink

15:41 something like that but then he might delay until you look at him to ask something like that and in something

15:45 like an MMO that could actually be really cool because you're you're

15:49 walking around and someone looks at you and you could kind of be like you could

15:53 be aggressive towards them you could offer to trade with them but you would

15:57 know when you have people's attention even just in towns like a a blacksmith

16:01 could shut out that they're selling swords yes but only once you kind of

16:05 look at them and so I think I think that's incredibly cool I mean the

16:10 the the ability to tell if you have

16:14 someone's attention digitally has been a

16:17 problem that goes back to my earliest encounter with this would be the MSN

16:21 days yeah it's like are do are you talking to me and just me right now or

16:26 do you have 18 other chat Windows open and are you doing 100 other things using

16:30 ey tracking you could actually make experiences more engaging whether it's

16:34 in gaming or other ways as well not only this message has been read but this chat

16:39 box is being looked at yeah I mean Isn't that cool all right so here let's talk

16:43 about the mini map thing so I'll have this playing while you so it it's a

16:47 little bit vague to be completely honest on how exactly it works but it allows

16:52 you to continue doing other see like he shows it taking up his whole screen I

16:55 don't think that's yeah but that's just to zoom in you can see the alias yeah but no go back a little bit oh sorry

17:01 this isy wait for it so what we do inad

17:05 no is when when we can see his screen here wait no like Let It Go

17:13 Boom I kind of have a weird feeling and

17:16 hope that's not really how it works because that's not going to help you no

17:20 covering the whole screen with your mini map is not a good thing and he he said

17:24 like it would be bound to a button so it will only do that when you're looking at

17:27 the mini map and press the button but and stuff but I still don't like that it

17:30 takes up your whole screen because that's not going to help I wonder if it

17:34 could be faster than moving your mouse down and back

17:39 up I don't know maybe marginally but

17:43 every APM counts at a professional level so and then taking up your whole screen

17:46 so you can't see other things is kind of not going to be super good but then if

17:51 you're wanting to move and look at something else anyway somewhere else on

17:54 the map yes but part of the problem is going to be that having that much of a

18:00 change distracting but then I think that

18:03 all of this is sort of a moot point when we consider that most rtss these days

18:08 are basically in the Dark Ages when it comes to mini map functionality mean

18:12 Supreme Commander had this figured out like what five six years ago and they're

18:17 not going to you could fully zoom in your mini map you could fully zoom up

18:21 your main map you could have on another monitor and you could put it over there

18:25 why does this not exist oh well you know some people might be like better than

18:29 other people because they have like better stuff you know what athletes with

18:32 better training equipment are better than athletes that have crappy training

18:36 equipment and in an improper diet I'm sorry but that's the way the world Works

18:40 anyway sorry I I got distracted so I don't think this would be allowed anyways in competitive play for one um

18:46 because it's a change now that you brought that up oh no change oh no

18:49 things are getting better and we can interact with things better you know what maybe maybe Starcraft 3 will only

18:54 run at 800 by 600 because anything higher than that would be too much

18:57 detail yeah and we're going to move backwards

19:02 in technology as we move forwards in the franchise Starcraft 3

19:13 interesting my one thing with it which is probably why you brought up the Oculus Fanboy thing but it's I'm not

19:17 even coming from an Oculus Fanboy Direction when are you ever not coming

19:21 from an Oculus Fanboy perspective rarely um but like I I you games have to be

19:27 developed with this in mind pretty heavily like interaction for everything

19:32 that they're going to want is going to have to be made so that it supports this

19:35 which is a lot of work with uh Oculus if

19:38 you develop under the right platform it's a button press and then hopefully

19:41 some tuning okay yes Oculus is easier but that doesn't mean that you would

19:46 have to program an entire game just for ey tracking because if you went and and

19:51 you maybe even retroactively applied to an existing game but if you develop the

19:54 game with the intention of making things interactive like say for example if my

19:58 Crosshair was focused on you you might say hi yeah then all you're doing is

20:03 changing one parameter so that instead of the Crosshair it's it's this and like

20:08 I'm I'm hoping a lot of games do develop for it I'm just saying it might be

20:12 struggling for the whole extra development side of things yeah um and

20:17 it would be cool if people like patch it into their games I think that would be awesome and people would really

20:20 appreciate that um or whatever else I

20:24 just think they might have like you noticed in their video Developers

20:28 developers developers the old Steve bomber thing essentially happened

20:32 because almost the whole time they were asking for developers um the also the

20:38 music was a little bit the music was

20:42 ridiculous I was like are we starting a religion like what what's going on here

20:47 speaking of starting a religion I just for those of you who haven't seen this

20:50 iconic video you you must see it I mean this is the guy is just developers

21:34 like to see out of it tracking technology from a from a gaming

21:38 perspective maybe as the main focus but also what would you like to see from

21:42 just a general computer usage perspective I mean do you do you see the

21:45 value more in the one video where they're talking about navigating the

21:49 Windows modern UI or do you see the value more in something like gaming and

21:54 let's talk just gaming from a chair so Oculus is okay because we're going we

21:58 have some more topics for later on in the show that are going to be about gaming outside of a chair but let's

22:02 let's get to that later so love to hear from you guys but first another topic so

22:07 the Samsung Galaxy camera 2 I am actually very disappointed about this

22:12 product yeah um I was hoping you might have gotten that from my notes I'm not

22:15 sure they no I I didn't even know you were disappoint okay let's start with

22:19 why you're disappointed uh well it's it's it's not phallic enough for you I

22:23 guess wow wow luckily most people won't get

22:26 that word yeah they will oh because now they'll look it up um it's it's not that

22:33 amazing it it doesn't seem super good it doesn't seem like that big of an

22:37 improvement it seems behind in the terms of smartphones also you can't call

22:41 people which is what we were asking for last time they came up with this but it

22:45 has NFC

22:50 like jeez it's it's not that fast it's

22:54 not that amazing it's just like there's

22:57 two too much meh going on in my but why no one cares no effing cares NFC has all

23:03 the NFC I mean who knows someone who bought

23:08 a Galaxy camera that's something that I can't

23:12 figure out like when you see these products and you're just like okay I

23:16 have not yet seen a Galaxy Gear I've

23:20 never seen one I've seen a few Pebbles you're not the only person I know that

23:24 has a pebble right I've also seen them out in the wild like people I don't know

23:27 yeah I've never seen a gear so like how much money did you lose on this

23:33 project and like did you get the hint that it wasn't successful I mean Maybe

23:38 I'm Wrong maybe Galaxy cameras is is is a big hit in like I don't like

23:43 Kazakhstan or something in Korea they use a lot more Samsung devices than they use here I noticed that even just

23:47 walking around but uh H I don't know

23:50 maybe it is fic

23:54 enough I think the biggest thing that I'm disappointed about here is just the

23:58 fact that and you already covered this you already mentioned this there's no

24:02 phone calling I don't see the value of a

24:05 dedicated Android camera I don't see the value of a dedicated camera anymore

24:10 especially looking at the direction that companies like Nokia are going in where

24:14 they're adding more and more advanced Optics to phones I think that's the is

24:21 amazing that's the convergence that we're going to see we're going to see

24:24 bigger camera bumps on phones that are more optimized for professionals I mean

24:28 this is the conversation we had with the whole modular phone concept is do people

24:33 care more about the gaming performance of a phone do people care more about this do people care more about that but

24:38 we're already kind of there the phone makers have the opportunity now to just

24:43 create individual SKS rather than modular SKS that are more optimized for

24:48 one thing or another and we've seen that with camera Samsung had an opportunity

24:52 here to make a phone that is also a

24:56 fantastic camera and it's really not that much more to add to it when you

25:01 consider that the Galaxy camera series already has mobile data connectivity

25:07 there's a SIM card in it there's a there's a SIM

25:10 card put a microphone in a speaker on it

25:14 for crying out loud give people the choice to say look I don't use my phone

25:19 that much but I'm a Shutterbug yeah that

25:23 would have made this a compelling device because I know a lot of people that would have just bought that because they

25:28 don't actually care about their phone that much and then just had it replace their camera absolutely so there you go

25:34 I mean anyway General specs it's got 2 gigs of RAM now instead of 1 gig it has

25:38 1.6 GHz quad core processor we don't know exactly which one runs Android 4.3

25:44 uh it has a 4.8 in super clear touch HD display whatever that means and 8 gigs

25:48 of storage 2,000 milliamp battery and an

25:52 expandable micro SD card slot I'm just

25:56 so disappoint they changed the bends a little bit um ISO is the same Zoom is

26:02 the same is the aperture better the aperture I think is that f1.4 is

26:07 Aperture or 4.1 rather 4.1 yeah the old

26:10 one was 2.8 wait no that would be worse then 4.1 is worse than 2.8 yes oh lower

26:16 aperture is more better oh my God confusing things um yeah f4.1 squiggly

26:23 line 86.1 mm the other one was F2 .8 W

26:28 schooly line 5.9 T I know nothing about

26:31 cameras so I'm hoping he can translate this no I'm I'm I well the problem is

26:36 that I don't I'm having a hard time interpreting your numbers here as the

26:39 problem that's directly taken from their website okay like Samsung's website I

26:44 went to Samsung Because unless it has two lenses cuz this looks like 23 mm

26:49 wide angle look oh never mind this is the other side my bad so better oh so

26:54 it's side versus side the right side is the so it has dramatically better Optics

26:58 then I was reading the wrong way okay yeah cuz you okay so it's a 2.8 aperture

27:02 lens versus a 4.1 so that is a lot more

27:06 light transmission that will be better for both picture taking and video

27:11 recording that's in direct comparison to Galaxy camera 1 and another thing I

27:14 would have liked to see included if you're going to call this thing a dedicated camera where's the 4K

27:18 recording for the amount that you're charging for this thing and the fact

27:21 that you still haven't even managed to put a phone in it Galaxy Note 3 does 4K

27:27 recording I know it might not be anything super super special and that's

27:30 not as good as a proper 4k camera but I mean at least it's it's a

27:37 feature exists yeah I just I think there was a missed opportunity there trying to

27:41 say in this it still does it's maximum video recording is 1080p 30 FPS just

27:46 like Galaxy camera one all right so here is Twitter Blitz

27:50 time I think the ey tracking in games like Battlefield would work to spot the

27:55 enemy because you looked up at him so you know what that's interesting that's

28:00 really cool what if cuz the spot mechanic you have to I I

28:05 literally if I'm playing Battlefield I just continuously press Q the entire

28:10 game pointing at all the things anyway

28:14 um you know what I actually okay I

28:18 probably interpreted his message wrong but I I think oh crap I had yeah no I

28:22 had a completely different direction I was going with that oh yeah yeah yeah

28:27 yeah yeah yeah yeah this maybe not for the hardcore keyboard mouse PC Gamers

28:32 but the direction I kind of went with this was what if you could use it

28:35 tracking as sort of a smart auto

28:39 aim right yeah like as a way to correct

29:41 time it took to be able to learn how to use that thing in any way that made any

29:46 amount of sense because it actually added something he needed it it wasn't

29:51 worth it for me it was kind of fun but like wasn't worth using all right

29:55 someone says would ey tracking be possible with the Oculus Rift um a

30:00 future version perhaps certainly not the first one it would help because the

30:05 screens inside would be illuminating your eyes yeah but I don't yeah be kind

30:10 of difficult I think I would prefer eye tracking but of course suspicious people

54:29 Forum I've been finding a little bit unfriendly to people so this particular

54:34 thread was someone who posted saying hey I just got a sound card and I really

54:38 like it I'm really happy with it my my sound is better and louder and there's

54:44 about five or six pages of people

54:47 crapping on the guy because he didn't have the almighty you know forethought

54:53 to research search the specific places on the internet where the wisdom exists

54:59 that something like a E10 might have been a better option so an external abin

55:04 Dack um and I didn't really find that

55:07 acceptable because of a couple of things number one is that as much as people

55:12 might be right and something like an objective 2 or a file E10 might be a

55:17 better option than pretty much any sound card in some cases nobody even went to

55:24 the trouble to ask a probing question and this is where I feel like a lot of

55:28 audio file people would do well to consider the old saying you'll catch

55:33 more flies with honey than with vinegar rather than being rude and abrasive to

55:39 people who are excited about the same

55:42 thing that you're excited about and rather than being helpful to them and

55:46 and really being welcoming to them making fun of them is just going to

55:51 perpetuate the myths and the misconceptions that you claim to be

55:56 trying to help them with so I'm going

55:59 let that sink in for a minute so the thing that bothered me is that after

56:02 five pages of people telling him that his onboard sound was fine and that the

56:06 solution he had used was terrible and that these were all the better Solutions

56:10 and he was basically an idiot for not realizing it and that any perception

56:14 that it sounded better was a placebo effect nobody actually recommended a

56:19 comparable product to the sound card that the op had purchased it was a Zone

56:23 RDG which is a 30 $ sound card remember

56:26 guys $30 for an amp and a DAC and an

56:32 upgraded microphone input the problem people have with onboard sound is not

56:36 always pure sound quality sometimes it's

56:39 sound volume if they're using headphones that are more difficult to drive

56:44 sometimes it's their mic input that is a big steamy pile of garbage sometimes

56:49 it's a driver issue and the external solution might be better to resolve a

56:54 driver issue because most of them are completely driverless or it might not be

56:58 because the driver issue might also be related to the mic in and most external

57:03 sound cards only have a headphone out

87:23 this super unstable platform so NASA was using Oculus and a connect to control a

91:27 outward yeah so there's a short video here where they demo it with

91:32 um so you can use a camera to create a

91:36 virtual environment around you that you can then interact with using the Oculus

91:41 so because of the front mounted camera you actually have a much finer uh detail

91:46 in terms of what your hands are doing so you could use gestures you can pick

91:50 things up and move them around like seeing in the demo video and that's

91:53 pretty much all there is in this demo video things don't get like real crazy

91:57 until the second one here so this was a guy who is using that 3D printed thing

92:02 for his own little experiment so he 3D printed one and added a rubber band

92:06 which is pretty simple pretty Innovative if you ask

92:10 me all right so here he's showing the

92:14 setup okay so he got he got a USB battery pack to power the Oculus Rift

92:18 box and then he has a USB extension for it to go to the computer and he has HDMI

93:50 corner and like blast something and like the shards of the wall would fall away

93:56 because if like okay if you could walk around the house and create the map

94:00 first you could even have a destructible environment maybe if you could walk

94:04 around with a 3D camera and then like load it into something that you have

94:08 like say you wore a backpack yes to do some type of processing and that's where

94:12 the HDMI cable goes and then you could load a map which is mapped out of your

94:19 move things we're not that far away from like really exciting augmented reality

98:43 servers because there wasn't that many people playing the game there were still people playing the game just not a ton

98:55 game it's not a subscription game I wouldn't think you'd need that many servers if there's nobody playing it and

99:07 because of that and it was an online only DRM based game so if you shut down

99:12 the servers there's nothing for your DRM game to connect to and you can't play it

100:28 source and shareware and like there's a lot of different types of things but

100:31 when we're talking about games typically none of that applies you are buying a

100:38 so it's it's just kind of gross because there's actually a lot of games right

100:42 now that have online online only DRM meaning that this is going to actually

100:46 happen quite a bit eventually because we've and you you can't be like oh well

100:52 my steam Library looks the same as it did seven years ago um yeah this whole

100:58 online only DRM thing hasn't really been a thing that whole time it's more recent

101:02 so we're actually going to see The Fallout of this in the future not now

101:07 we're starting to see it and the author of the hexus article brought up a really

101:10 interesting point what is my steam Library going to look like in 10 years

101:14 because Square Enix might not be the most customer friendly company but there

101:18 are plenty of other not that customer companies out there that might go ah you

101:24 know what it's too much work to keep the server up it's too much work to send out

101:28 a new patch that makes it DRM free so

101:33 whatever and like uh I believe war gaming is attached to this and if you

101:38 look at it uh World of Tanks if they shut down the servers all

101:43 of that money that you've poured into the game is gone whether it was on tanks

101:48 or whether it was on whatever anything that's not expendable like

101:52 ammunition you you see it right now as a permanent thing but if they shut down

101:55 the service at some point it's gone and that's how that's going to work a lot I

101:59 mean with with the way that most mainstream Gamers move from one game to

102:03 the next game it won't matter too much it won't matter to too many people and I

102:07 think that's why they did this for this particular title I think if it had been

102:11 Starcraft 1 where blizzard was like okay

102:15 we're shutting down the Battlenet servers so um you know pack up your CDs

102:20 and mail them to us you we're no longer licensing this software like that would

102:24 have caused outrage but since it's a game that very few people were actually

102:28 playing I suspect most of the people asking for refunds were probably people

102:32 who weren't playing the game anyway and they're just trying to get money back and they're just trying to get some

102:35 money out of it yep I actually think that's probably the exact same thing

102:38 although there is going to be that group of people that were probably a fairly

102:41 hardcore Community because reading up on this game I never bought it apparently

102:45 was not super Noob friendly apparently it was actually kind of hard so a lot of

102:50 people didn't really play it a ton because of that because it's not a super

102:54 popular game and it's really difficult right so there was a few as far as I can

102:58 tell again I never owned it so I don't really know as far as I can tell there was a smaller community of

103:04 hardcores it's I don't know it's interesting and it's going to become

103:07 more and more of a problem so a lot of people have been blaming everyone and

103:11 everything that they possibly can um but it brings up the question whose fault is

103:15 this and Square Enix yeah Square Enix a

103:18 lot of people have been slapping Steam for this what a lot of people have been

104:28 actually pretty good with their own stuff valve valve or valve sorry valve

104:31 is actually pretty good with their own stuff which is really cool and if you're

104:35 freaked out there are other options that still interface with steam because you can go to something like the Humble

104:39 Bundle store and if you look on the Humble Bundle store I think literally

104:44 everything is steam compatible and then if you look even closer there's games

104:48 that'll have DRM free boxes on there so if you buy it there you get a steam key

104:53 and you get a DRM free download yeah so things like and not even just like

104:57 crappy games like trying to for example trying to DRM free download Rogue Legacy

105:02 which while I believe it's Indie I don't actually remember off the top of my head

105:06 um but still huge game DRM fre like

105:09 there's there's yeah so there's options out there and you can still use steam if

105:13 you still like that platform also if you're can use something like Gog gaming

106:14 first time I'd used my optical drive like last calendar year I don't have one

106:21 took forever too I was like what this is stupid anyway so I installed the game

106:26 and I just added it and then game stream work just like that so that's really

106:29 cool even though it's not um a GeForce

106:32 experience title and it wasn't properly fully integrated with steam right anyway

106:42 last week in the Afterparty we did a massive poll and try to get everyone to

106:58 become unfeasible with the size of the Forum now and how fast everything goes

107:03 for us to actually see every build log that's coming in and it's becoming

107:06 really really difficult to sort through the ones that have been actually finished this week that's been really

107:12 hard because we see people posting this week and I can see that Tim stamp but

107:15 it's really hard to and people are commenting on ones this week that have

107:19 been done a long time AG and it's been really hard to actually track which ones are specifically done this week um so

107:25 we've come up with a conclusion which is going to take a bit of work from uh Mr

107:29 Wizard and myself probably mainly Mr Wizard because it's kind of crazy and

107:34 confusing um but it is coming it is not here yet though um so yeah we don't have

107:39 build logs of the week this week that's a really high number but it's yeah it's

107:44 coming and it's going to be actually pretty cool and the build logs forum is

107:47 not going to work is probably not going to work exactly the the same as how the

107:51 rest of the Forum works okay cuz it's going to work on this interesting we're

107:55 we're trying to see how this will work but it's going to work on an interesting

107:58 sorting system where you can see what has been finished and what is in

108:02 progress based on forced tags that everyone has to implement and use and

108:06 change and stuff and that'll help us with some new Forum features or site

108:09 features that are potentially coming in the future as well yeah there's like there's a bunch of changes coming to

108:13 build logs huge changes coming to build logs so yeah the the build logs of the

108:17 week changes thread I I guess I can just lock now I hadn't locked it yet because

108:22 we knew we weren't going to be able to implement the ideas immediately so I was

108:25 I had an original end date of Wednesday I just kind of let it spill forward um

108:30 but we kind of we kind of know what we're doing now um if that idea doesn't

108:34 work there's a few other ideas that we're going to try we've been in business for a year and that's the

108:38 conclusion we kind of know what we're doing now kind of kind of not entirely

108:43 sure if it'll work but yeah there's a bunch of ideas and there's a bunch of fallback ideas and we're good with that
