1:04 another video tonight with um with with Slick's brother actually you want to

1:08 talk a little bit about that uh my brother and my mom actually uh my mom is

1:12 hosting a charity called uh caregivers night out it's for caregivers of family

1:17 members what it's for caregivers of family members and whatnot that don't

1:21 get paid for what they're doing so if they're if you're taking care of uh some

1:25 sort of family member you don't get paid for it takes up all your time you don't really get any days to yourself this is

1:30 for you um it's more just in our area so it's more of a local thing but my

1:34 brother thought that he' help fund the event because uh there's dinner and

1:38 everything included and it's all paid for by my family brother thought he'd

1:41 help fund the event by holding an online Starcraft tournament so it's $5 Buy in

1:46 $2.50 goes towards the pot and $2.50

1:50 goes towards the charity and yeah it'll be just a fun event for everyone all

2:16 asked how you got started how did I get started uh I built a

2:21 computer um when I got started ncx

2:24 wasn't really around so I researched some parts online I went on to a couple

2:29 forums I don't remember what they were at the time um but just a whole bunch of

2:32 old school computer forums asked around for what parts people liked looked up

2:36 reviews uh performance reviews whatnot why did you want a computer uh Diablo

2:42 okay at the time I wanted to play Diablo yeah okay yeah Diablo is pretty cool is

2:47 that Diablo 1 uh at the time that was Diablo I my dad had built a computer for

2:51 Diablo 1 awesome okay what else we got here guys you're late which is getting

2:55 out of control come on guys I was like two minutes late geez

3:52 your ARM okay I was biking to school came down a hill uh went around a corner

3:57 and as I came around the corner a car came up right up beside me so we were

4:01 both going around the corner together as we got around the corner and I was coming into school uh I got pushed into

4:06 the gutter this was the first big day of fall so there's tons of wet leaves everywhere there's a ramp for people to

4:11 walk up onto the sidewalk and I tried to turn up on there what I couldn't see

4:14 because of all the leaves that were covering it was that the ramp actually still had a ledge about this much

4:18 instead of the side box that was about that much so when I turned to try and go

4:21 up on it um my wheel went completely sideways and I went Head Over Heels of

4:26 my bike and landed on the big curb right on my shoulder and then screwed up my

4:30 hand as well so that was on Monday so so

4:33 they're probably going to want to know if your ARM's broken my ARM is not

4:36 broken no bones are broken no fractures

4:40 um the muscles in my shoulder are pretty messed up and there's a big cut and my

4:44 fingers are quite cut up but I can still move them

4:48 so cool story

4:52 bro here we go guys we got another question for slick uh I've got one

4:57 brother no other siblings he's quite interested in technology um he's got his

5:01 own water cooled Cosmos 2 um I think you

5:05 actually tweeted pictures of that right I have tweeted pictures of that those are pretty early on but if you go to my

5:41 about showing myself it's always been kind of a fun game for people to look

5:44 for me in Reflections I remember one of my favorite things was uh closer to when

5:48 I first started uh we had a video where in the background of the TV you could

5:52 see me really well so I came with the idea of putting random stuff on my head

5:56 we put a a shoe we put a shoe uh

6:00 um CP water cooler yeah and something

6:04 else was a Bo yeah it was a box or something and that was pretty fun cuz

6:08 people got to guess what it was and I don't know some people you know it took

6:11 a while but then people started actually noticing it so that was uh that was

6:14 pretty awesome yeah okay

6:19 um H I actually haven't heard of the 570

6:22 LX but if it's basically similar to an h100 but with a thicker radiator then it

6:27 should just be yeah yeah pretty much like here say we collectively three

6:31 thumbs up because no no don't even don't even try it's there's no

6:37 point okay we got more questions here's here's a good

6:46 know kind of simple but I didn't really think it was that big of a deal um it's

7:03 the year sort of condemning my uh my disrespectful treatment of slick uh

7:09 cameraman all these various sorts of characters so slick can you set the

7:14 record straight once and for all were your itty bitty feelings hurt by no uh

7:19 banter usually goes back and forth off camera um there's there was a couple

7:24 where people were like I'm unsubscribing blah blah blah uh the one I remember was

7:28 an I don't remember exactly what what it was I think it was MSI z77 gd65 make

7:32 sure you're projecting it in theer I think it was the MSI z77 g65a unboxing

7:37 outside and I was trying to cover up the Sun so that there was a shadow on it so

7:41 you could see it easier I don't remember what he said but people got pretty up

7:45 about it no because it was kind of it was kind of homo because you were really

7:48 close to me so I was like I well okay I

7:51 was like this and I was unboxing something and then you were like you

7:55 were like right the I was like whoa you're you're a little close it was just

7:59 it was one of those things it was like I thought you were going to give me a man

8:03 hug um no no no off camera banter goes back and forth so I can totally

8:07 understand how that might have looked on camera but it's actually fine once it's

8:10 off camera I give him back it's all and just so you guys know like attached to

8:15 my left foot I have like a blade that I've been sticking into his calf and if

8:19 he doesn't say that it's okay then I was going to like stab him so

8:23 yeah all right what else we got um should be fine here hold on sorry

8:29 should be fine try the Windows 7 drivers they should work um my ARM is more

8:35 questions about the ARM I mean okay geek tweets

8:40 BL oh flip as has a good question so for

8:43 the h100i we actually we actually shot an unboxing tonight I'm going to go find

8:47 it but slick can probably explain what the difference is um new magnetic

8:51 mounting hardware is pretty awesome so that you can easily switch out the

8:54 hardware for if you want AMD or Intel the new tubing's great it's really cool

8:59 um make sure you're projecting at the camera the radiator seems exactly the

9:02 same the new fans are awesome a lot better than what they were before

9:05 they're basically uh of course they're SP fans but they're simplified a bit no

9:09 more rubber mounting system no more tube through there uh no more ring yeah no

9:14 color color customization yeah you can pop on and off show the magnetic M yeah

9:19 so see so this is really cool guys so it has 38 in tubing now which is kind of

9:23 awesome uh so you can see super thick tubing compar okay you can't see it at

9:27 all but super thick tubing compared to what we have had before and instead of

9:30 those screws that you use to put the mounting hardware on it you just got a

9:34 little clip that goes over top and uh is held in place by a magnet

9:39 so you can swap between the Intel and the AMD mounting hardware very very

9:43 easily which is really cool so I mean that's well of course they link yeah and

9:47 of course they link and the the actual water block is very glossy now and looks

9:52 pretty cool yeah looks sweet I mean

9:56 glossy bothers me when it's a monitor bezel yeah but when you're not really

9:59 touching it all the time or it's not really in like direct dust you know yeah

10:03 I mean it's sideways so it should have a hard time settling on there should be

10:06 okay I think and positive air flow but

10:09 yeah guys we'll have an unboxing coming of the h100 very soon I'm going to

10:13 upload it sometime tonight after I upload the live stream video so good

10:21 okay Jared what would you recommend for an nmo gaming mouse and an MMO gaming

10:25 blue backlit keyboard well for one thing you're not giving us a lot of options

10:29 with the MMO gaming blue backlit keyboard because you can either try to

10:33 dig up one of the legendary Logitech g15

10:36 gen ones good luck with that cuz the people who have them are you know yeah

10:42 yeah not not giving them up um or you could go with something like a COR k90

10:47 but the k90 has some compatibility issues with some motherboards unless

10:51 they've received BIOS updates um for a

10:54 mouse my personal pick is still the Naga

10:57 I've used the g600 I've used the M90 M90

11:01 is not bad but I would still I would pick the Naga what would you go um I'm

11:05 not actually a huge fan of the more MMO branded mice and keyboards um okay but I

11:11 think we can all agree k90 is better than k60 yes I'll actually agree with

11:15 that um if you if you don't actually use

11:18 the macro keys on the side of your keyboard because most people I know that have them don't actually use them um I

11:24 know more a lot of people that I know that have MMO like they play a lot of

11:27 MMOs and they like their MMO ke use the ones on the mouse but not the keyboard

11:32 so if you use the ones on the Mouse um I know rat or mad cats is coming out with

11:37 a new MMO Mouse pretty soon um there's k90 there's uh there's quite a few M90

11:43 yeah my bad M90 um did you try the g600

11:47 yet no oh just feels a little bit laggy to me like it's not oh the Logitech one

11:52 yeah yeah I haven't tried it but I've heard a lot of reviews about it being lagy tons of them it just it just

11:56 doesn't feel quite right like even something like uh like M60 or M90 or G9

12:02 g9x those nice yeah g9x is awesome it's

12:06 like twitch responsive but then I noticed um I love Logitech

12:11 peripherals but other than their g710

12:14 plus which recently came out they're more recent stuff I'm not a huge fan of

12:18 g710 plus is kind of outstanding it's pretty great actually and for keyboards

12:22 in general if you're looking for a blue backlit keyboard if you want it to be mechanical check out ducky or deck I

12:27 know they both do blue backlits all right we have 123 new

12:33 interactions oh boy

12:36 um ay2 LS to a claro Halo do people

12:40 still buy claro cards claro Halo is an

12:44 HT Omega card right I believe so I think so yeah claro Halo is a little bit on

12:48 the outdated side I mean it's still a very good quality card I'd probably go

12:51 with something like uh Zone rst at this point though for a more modern modern

12:56 solution that you know is going to keep getting drivers support because with

12:59 sound cards there's that super build quality which really doesn't change

13:04 because analog and even Dax to a certain point are not advancing nearly as fast

13:09 as a lot of stuff but when it comes to driver support that's where you can run

13:13 into issues with an obscure sound card and if you get the right sound card you

13:17 can get swapable all amps and other things so you can actually change it a bit down the line oh yeah that's true

13:23 too um personally I'm not a big fan of

13:26 the sort of dedicated physx card modern card are so fast it's kind of

13:30 unnecessary um Ryan good question if

13:34 you're upgrading to Windows 8 here I'm going to oh I'm going to put our oh it's

13:37 not working okay two seconds guys okay slick answer that question and then I

13:41 will fix this thing um I personally install Windows 8 on my laptop just to

13:46 more try it out because it's a develop my laptop is a permanent development

13:49 suite for me um I don't see a huge difference I don't

13:55 actually use Optical drives that often anymore uh I'm thinking about swapping

13:59 out the optical drive on my laptop actually for an additional uh hard

14:03 driver SSD Bay so yeah um I would probably just download it and load it

14:07 onto a USB okay yeah I think that pretty

14:10 much covers it okay what are you eating lonus oh I'm having a honey garlic honey

14:15 garlic pork and uh and rice and broccoli

15:09 family of routers and what we did is we actually went to Slick's house see here

15:14 we are in Slick's house and here I'm going to go full screen so I'm going to

15:18 let you guys watch this segment because it's kind of interesting on the Western

15:21 Digital myet N900 Central router to see

15:25 if it can handle anything we can throw out it pretty much his internet

15:30 connection is 25 megabit Down 2 megabit

15:33 up and we are absolutely hammering it we

15:36 have Diablo I as well as another game updating right now we have an FTP

15:41 download going on this notebook over a I'm going to skip a bit here

15:46 guys so basically here's uh here's me

15:49 and slick with Netflix running and a Skype call going at the same time while

15:53 we've got the network super loaded up which we of course have permission for

15:58 We Are are streaming ah yes we have one of his other roommates you can actually

16:02 see diesel here check this out you can see diesel right here filming behind the

16:06 camera because that's my end of the Skype call two utorent clients running

16:10 on separate PCS all running off

16:13 the all right so let's get back to uh

16:17 let's get back to business so slick what was your take because we

16:22 actually tested the ea4500 that's the cloud cloud router and the minet 900 so

16:28 we did that we showed the test with the 900 but take it away the 4500 was kind of

16:34 insane uh to put it lightly I we we

16:37 brought down the firmware right yeah we we're not using the cloud firmware on it

16:41 we brought it off Cloud firmware because neither of us are neither of us are a fan of cloud firmware um we were running

16:48 two or three utorent connections that were all downloading and uploading we

16:51 were downloading and uploading to an FTP we had a roommate of mine streaming on

16:56 Twitch we had just everything we could

16:59 possibly a Skype call we had everything we could really think of to hammer the

17:02 network and then 4500 just didn't care uh it ran everything perfectly pings

17:07 were kind of insane but everything that we were actually doing actively was

17:10 running seamlessly now the original

17:13 intention of the episode was to show like a head-to-head um because it was WD

17:18 who asked us to do the episode about their FastTrack feature which is qos

17:22 that is maintenance free you just it's automatic automatic qos um so we were

17:29 like okay let's test it against something that doesn't have automatic qos and we were expecting to be able to

17:33 demonstrate like a huge difference in the prioritization now the minet did

17:39 prioritize the traffic the Netflix stream didn't degrade in quality and the

17:43 Skype call was maintained but what happened was when we started to throw

17:48 more stuff at it um the like the game

17:51 pings when we tried it at the end was about a second on the myet minet router

17:55 playing League of Legends around a th MS

17:59 so so what that meant was that it was

18:02 the the prioritization was working but when we actually put it head-to-head

18:06 against the linkis router it wasn't

18:11 necessarily a good demonstration let's just put it that way so so pretty much

18:17 the answer to that question I think is pretty straightforward I would probably

18:20 go with i i okay I don't think I would

18:24 actually buy the AC router though because there's nothing AC unless un you

18:28 really want it um but the ea4500 is really great and I'm expecting that the

18:33 6500 would be pretty much more of the same yeah

18:37 okay um yeah see this this pretty much that

18:42 pretty much summarizes the sentiments of anyone with uh with g15 Gen one G g15

18:48 the best gen two yeah you can have it I had an N g15 for a really really

18:54 long time and it took me like it took me like sorry I was looking down cuz I

18:58 depressed it took me like 3 months to pick a keyboard when it died cuz I was

19:02 just so unhappy when it died and I love mechanical keyboards but there's just

19:06 something about g15 like the original g15s that was just absolutely amazing um

19:12 I still have it upstairs even though it's completely dead I just kind of

19:15 refused to get rid of it I don't know Sim asks what's a good FPS gaming

19:20 mouse um I like my g9x I also like g500s

19:24 uh like I've already said earlier I'm a pretty big fan of Logitech peripherals

19:27 mainly their mice uh actually for keyboards I usually go for more mechanical ones but I guess they have

19:31 710 plus now yeah but not in Blue switches so i' probably I I'll wait for

19:35 that I'll wait for that um but yeah g9x I really like G500 I really like the

19:40 meic one is also really good yeah zal 60 is what I'm using these days well that's

19:44 their keyboard yeah it's like their did he ask mice mouse oh the naos uh naos

19:49 5,000 or 500 naos 500 yeah my wife uses a naos 3200 she really likes the uh the

19:55 ergonomics yeah it's good most okay

19:58 here we go so two two quick questions here um won't the h100 I magnet

20:03 interfere with the motherboard or any hardware no Universal scripts asked what

20:08 is your opinion on sh sorry that's the

20:11 baby what is your opinion on Windows 8 strictly as a non-touchscreen OS and

20:17 actually slick spent more time with Windows 8 than I have so far so take it

20:20 away uh I really like the feel of it

20:23 like when you search for programs and stuff it flows really well it it seems

20:27 to it feels very natural everything flows as you I miss men I miss Arrow

20:33 glass I actually don't um for a little while I did but I don't actually think

20:38 it's that big of a deal because I I think the reason they took it out and

20:41 this is just purely speculation I think the reason they took it out probably has nothing to do with it not being better

20:46 like I think it's way better no it's cuz it's all generalized so the tablets and

20:50 phones would have a problem with it um and you can feel that when you use it

20:55 though that's that's the pet peeve I have about it you can tell when you do

20:58 certain things that this was designed for a tablet this was designed for a

21:01 phone this was designed for a touchcreen so there's usually at least one more

21:05 step to everything and it doesn't sound like a lot but when you go to shut your

21:09 computer down and like I'm moving from class to class I want to shut down

21:12 really quickly um when there's one extra step it's just tedious and annoying and

21:17 like as you riddle me this why do you need to shut down because it wakes and

21:22 sleeps so fast but if you ever do need to shut down like for whatever reason if

21:28 if you wake and sleep it's the same thing I've had some problems closing my

21:32 tablet uh my laptop and moving from class to class but that's more to do

21:36 with the fact that I had a pre-release version of Windows 8 that I don't think

21:39 had full functionality yet so that's probably it but back then I was constantly shutting down and going from

21:43 classic class but no matter what you do there's usually one more step or say if

21:47 you want to open another notepad so if you already have a notepad open uh Press

21:51 Start type notepad press enter it will just bring the notepad that you already

21:54 have open forward on the screen instead of actually opening a new notepad like

21:59 it did in all previous versions of Windows so instead you have to either go

22:03 down and middle click on it with your mouse wheel or right click and create a

22:07 new instance which is just I liked the

22:10 old way I don't know I'm not a huge fan of it as a non-touchscreen desktop OS

22:15 but yeah but you'll stubbornly use it I will stubbornly use it I will give it

22:19 time I'm excited for service pack one right I mean there's a couple little

22:23 things that I'm kind of looking at going well if they just fix this then it would

22:26 be a billion times better like the search uh search right now you click

22:31 search and then or you you click the start menu and then you type in something and if you don't have the

22:35 right type of thing that you're searching for selected it won't find anything so if you're looking for a

22:39 setting like device manager um or whatever you have to go under settings

22:44 and it's default is apps so it it's just annoying you should just be able to type

22:48 it and press enter but you have to type it and click on the thing and then yeah

22:52 yeah so on the other hand surface r is

22:58 amazing Surface RT is amazing there is other really cool things about Windows 8 too um file transfers are awesome I know

23:04 they're amazingly awesome remember when we were trying to do those benchmarks

23:08 with the ad Data Drive on the Windows 7 machine and it was like just completely

23:12 derping out I tried it on Windows 8 machine it's like so easy I get a useful

23:17 readable Benchmark I mean I'm using I'm using Windows 8 for any kind of file

23:20 transfer any kind of like storage benchmarks from now on that's that's

23:24 just it yeah I know absolutely great shows you a perfect graphical map of How

23:28 It's transferring they're pausable which is amazing I absolutely love that I use

23:32 that constantly yeah um all of that is just great the new task manager is

23:36 awesome I love task manager and it even works on like the RT tablets and stuff

23:41 which is kind of cool it's great like there is really really good things about

23:44 it but there's also things that I'm not a huge fan of and they could fix that in

23:48 F their service packs or whatever so we'll see how it goes okay so let's move

23:52 into one of our discussion topics um I don't know if you guys have heard about

23:55 this already or if you haven't heard about this already but if you haven't

24:00 then motherboards.org the channel just

24:03 go motherboards org you know the one with uh with

24:08 El is no longer the motherboards.org Channel with elri so if you guys haven't

24:13 seen this already check this out in the last couple days here we'll go on uh

24:18 social blade yeah this will probably be

24:21 interesting yeah this will this will probably be interesting so El left

24:25 motherboards.org published a video on his other Channel Tech tomorrow or

24:29 tomorrow Tech I think it's Tech tomorrow I think it might be tomorrow Tech okay

24:32 it's one of the two um telling his subscribers to unsubscribe because his

24:37 channel had been taken from him so in

24:40 the last couple days uh yeah helps if I type the thing

24:44 right in the last couple days he has shed thousands of

24:50 subscribers so my hard there we go okay I got this i got

24:56 this so check that out guys in the the past couple days he has lost about

25:00 13,000 subscribers from the motherboards org Channel which basically is um I mean

25:08 what are what are they even what are they even going to do with it like realistically think about this guys what

25:13 if I was like fired from NC then I don't

25:19 know slick would you do lus Tech tips uh

25:22 probably not okay so there hold on okay couple things guys so there's a lot of

25:27 there's a lot of people in the twitch chat and I'm here I'm going to let you

25:36 are um that are saying you know oh well you know blah blah blah he wasn't he

25:40 wasn't that great anyway blah blah blah it's not the it's not really the point

25:43 the point is it's very difficult to recast someone who is sort of the the

25:48 face and I'm not saying who was right and who was wrong because I have no idea

25:53 but I mean would you watch uh for example actually okay what what other

25:58 channels do you even follow okay time to live Customs yeah would you watch it

26:01 without tiny Tom Logan no um the only

26:05 other guy I really watch is Tiny Tom Logan and the only reason why I watch

26:09 him is if he goes so into depth with things so that I can't actually just get

26:13 this from reading a little blurb um and without him that Channel's dead if he

26:19 lost if he left for some reason it's his thing so he can't really be fired but if

26:23 he left for some reason I would see no reason to watch any more videos uh the

26:27 whole thing is branded on a person like

26:32 uh what was that TV show where the guy got fired because he smoked too much cck

26:36 what oh uh Charlie Sheen yeah when he left like does anyone actually watch

26:40 that show anymore I know right ashon cutcher yeah as far as I've heard it

26:44 just no one cares and like ashon cooker Kutcher is apparently a good actor but

26:48 like no one cares the whole idea of the show is gone right I don't know okay so

26:53 that was something that we said we were going to talk about I want to talk about another thing so

26:59 everyone knows what this is and this of course looks like the same thing which

27:02 is of course a reason that uh Apple should get a lot of money

27:08 um so it's official the Galaxy S3 is the

27:12 top selling smartphone ever or something like that right yeah

27:17 okay what's that mean I don't know here's my okay here's

28:11 about a phone it's really durable I've dropped it a couple times already can

31:47 generations ahead of anything else in terms of performance why uh they're they're ARM

31:53 processors uh I was talking to a friend at school Theo if you're out there hello

31:58 um I don't know if this is true this is something I heard from a friend at school so don't quote me but he's pretty

32:02 credible so I think so and he was saying that apple is they haven't made an

32:06 official statement or anything but they're seriously considering going with ARM processors for everything really

32:11 ditching Intel and I think that might give Intel

32:15 a little bit of a wakeup call for the tablet Market I certainly hope so yeah

32:19 because surface is amazing and I can't

32:22 really fight for any Android tablets although I'd like to but I just can't

32:25 but again the same thing holding back surface is holding back Android tablets

32:30 in a big way and it's Tegra 3 I Tegra 3

32:33 was good when it came out it was good but even then it wasn't as fast as iPad

32:37 2 y iPad 3 was faster iPad 4 is faster

32:42 again it's a two generational Gap and it already wasn't that competitive

32:46 so why is it that NVIDIA can't afford to

32:50 make a faster chip or Samsung can't afford to I mean even Galaxy Note 10.1

32:55 has a faster chip in it than a or three but using it did not feel like anything

33:02 like using an iPad um I think NVIDIA is more going for

33:09 it's kind of weird because NVIDIA usually goes big or goes home but um but

33:13 they Trump at the performance of tiger from the rooftops yeah I know um and

33:18 they really need to get their game up because they are getting destroyed by ARM and so does Intel Intel needs to

33:22 wake up and actually care about tablets and start destroying ARM because Intel

33:26 has the power to do it NVIDIA is awesome but I think they're still even though

33:30 they say they're kind of focusing on tablets I think they're still focusing on the desktop realm um trying to make

33:35 things cheaper that an Enterprise an Enterprise and all that kind of stuff

33:38 and I think that's what Intel is doing too they care more about desktops they care more about servers um here's the

33:43 thing that kills me about what Intel's been doing lately and it comes down to die

33:48 size Intel chips now that okay okay you

33:51 look at sort of think about this so the pricing of AMD CPUs versus Intel CPUs

33:56 AMD has a four module pile driver chip

33:59 the 8350 that has an enormous die like

34:03 we're talking a die that is at least I I

34:06 can't remember the exact measurements but it's more than double the size of an

34:10 Intel 3770k huge die size compared to that so when it comes to how much a CPU

34:15 costs or how much any chip costs like this chip you know this chip doesn't

34:19 matter what chip it comes down to the manufacturing process so the R&D that

34:24 went into it and then it comes down to the die size because the die size is the

34:29 odds that a defect will appear on that part of the wafer so the wafer is about

34:33 this big and then you can put as many chips as you can and the bigger the die

34:38 size any wafer is going to have defects especially around the outsides the

34:41 bigger the die size the bigger the chance there's a significant defect on

34:44 it it can't be used so Intel if you watch they've been

34:50 shrinking their manufacturing process they haven't been giving

34:54 us any kind of uh they they've been shrinking the die size that's dedicated

34:58 to the actual CPU for the last few Generations so what could they do if

35:03 they were actually paying attention if AMD was actually giving them a run for their money and this ties back into my

35:06 point about Apple as well uh they could use their real estate more and just blow

35:10 them out of the water isn't it um 2011 didn't they like burn off to the cores

35:15 uh yeah yeah 2011 well the the server chips are up to eight cores yeah yeah

35:19 and then the extreme Edition which is supposed to be the even the new extreme

35:23 Edition 3970x which is supposed to be like 50 watt TDP So in theory they

35:28 didn't even care about TDP but all we got out of it was a couple hundred more

35:33 mehz and they did not leave in the other two cores and I'm I mean Ivy Sandy

35:40 Bridge e Ivy Bridge e Ivy Bridge e which is coming I think it's supposed to be up

35:44 to 12 course but whenever it comes it'll

35:47 come and that'll be that I think um I used to be a pretty big fan of AMD back

35:53 with their Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 X2 yeah you're a fair weather friend as B

35:56 basically what you're trying to say but go ahead yeah um but AMD just hasn't been

36:02 competing properly lately Intel's just been absolutely destroying and because

36:06 AMD isn't actually giving Intel a run for their money um Intel doesn't have to

36:12 care I they can just keep on making things cheaper and cheaper so that their

36:16 profit margins are higher and just they just don't have to Care on the other

36:20 hand what do they have to do because they're a publicly traded company

36:24 publicly traded companies are always evaluated bed Bas on growth they have to

36:28 make money yeah yeah so they have to make money they have to show growth if

36:31 they're not increasing profit margins or increasing revenues or doing both then

36:35 they're going to get destroyed so the PC

36:38 desktop PC market is pretty saturated and I've got my own opinions about why

36:42 that is I don't think it has anything to do with the desktop being dead as a platform I think it's just I mean how

36:46 old is your parents okay you're probably a bad example but your friends how old

36:50 are their parents computers oh really old my parents computer my my friend's

36:54 parents computers are really old five years probably around there XP machines

36:59 they're just they're all XP machines all my friends parents computers are XP machines or they're my friend's old

37:04 computers which are now running Windows 7 so it's hard to sell CPUs if you're

37:08 not buying people aren't buying computers but that doesn't mean they're not still using desktops so we can put

37:13 that aside forever the desktop is not dead but if you're Intel what choice do

37:17 you have now you have to increase your margins um or you have to try and find a

37:21 way to sell more stuff or you have to expand into new markets I mean I think

37:24 SSD is going to be a big deal yeah um you look at what's going on with ocz

37:28 right now you look at what's going on with anyone who's not a manufacturer

37:34 yeah and uh guys like Samsung guys like

37:37 Intel where they have Fabs they have the

37:41 technology the vertical guys those those are going to be the guys who win yeah um

37:46 where are we going with this they well I'm not actually entirely sure but like

37:50 Intel can make their own uh modules and

37:54 cherry pick them too so it's not really fair for all the guys that aren't manufacturing their own yeah that's true

37:59 until Samsung just trade pick their own stuff right okay so back to my back to

38:04 my Apple thing so here's my theory as to why Apple can

38:10 be two generations ahead of everyone else in terms of performance they spend on die size you look at the size of

38:16 something like an a6x compared to a Egra 3 it is huge it absolutely dwarfs tiger

38:22 3 it's not rocket science I mean a processor is how many transistors are in

38:28 it basically and then the advantage of a

38:31 smaller manufacturing process is basically the the whole point is being

38:35 able to stuff more transistors into that space because you reach a point of

38:39 diminishing returns when it gets this big the delay to get a signal from here

38:43 to here across the Chip And sort of all the traces in between becomes too much

38:47 so as long as you stay within a certain size and it's all good but if you look back at like older remember when CPUs

38:53 didn't have a heat spreader on them how big the cores were how big there so much

38:56 smaller now whereas apple is interesting because NVIDIA doesn't get to take money

39:02 from the manufacturing but neither does Apple they don't get to take money from

39:06 the screen they don't get to take money from the app store they don't get to

39:09 take money from the the button anything else Apple

39:14 gets to take margin on almost every aspect of this device and and apple can

39:18 make money on other things too like cables and cases and whatnot yes

39:22 accessories so what happens I I believe

39:25 the reason that they can be so far ahead is they can just spend on die size they

39:30 can go okay we don't care make the chip as big as you want whereas NVIDIA only

39:34 gets to sell a chip so they have to optimize you know like think about the

39:38 margins you need if you're a chip maker so that that tagra device that you have

39:43 um I don't have any handy right now but that Tegra device you have NVIDIA only

39:46 got to take a profit on that one little thing so if they were to take like

39:51 what's Apple's gross margins 40 45% or something like that it's around that so

39:55 if Apple gets to take 45 % on a phone

39:59 then NVIDIA if NVIDIA only gets to take 45% on a phone that means Apple's taking

40:04 a couple hundred dollars or on a chip rather for NVIDIA and NVIDIA if that

40:09 chip has to be part of a phone that costs $500 and they're getting 45% of

40:14 whatever that is they're only getting to take a few bucks so they have to have much higher profit margins

40:21 so that's my theory I don't think anyone can catch up unless it's maybe Samsung I

40:26 think am could catch up Intel could catch up full solution providers yeah I

40:30 I wish I don't know I hope I hope Tegra

40:33 doesn't die I like kind of like NVIDIA and I like where they're going with it

40:36 they're trying really hard they're pushing for the gaming side of it and stuff but it's just not there well

40:41 Wayne's going to be significantly faster than the current generation product I

40:45 mean the uh the road map that I saw at

40:48 the last uh NVIDIA partner conference basically had performance going like

40:52 this I think they were saying by 2014 or 2015 we were going to have Core i5 level

40:58 performance in a tgra product um I mean they're very much in

41:03 the game and as a Solutions provider I think they'll they'll always be a big

41:07 winner yeah I mean AMD is finally turning things on with uh hey have you

41:11 seen the new AMD drivers I actually have not never settled drivers are adding 10

41:16 to 15% across the board on 7,000 series cards in AAA titles their their cards

41:22 haven't really been a problem though no their graphics cards have been really

41:26 good it's other areas that they've been failing in lately right okay let's do

42:33 buddies to ask him he was on here actually Harrison I got him to ask him

42:37 um when he when Harrison asked them they said specifically oh we're not doing

42:41 anything we're not do anything that's up to the board Partners but if the board

42:45 Partners do anything about it like what MSI did I'm guessing like NVIDIA pulls

42:49 all warranty yep so they can't afford that that's where NVIDIA used to stand

42:54 behind them but now they don't stand behind them so they are doing something about okay the flip side of that is if I

42:59 manufacture this CPU Cooler and I say

43:02 you're not allowed to run the pump at 14 volts or 15 volts or 20 volts or

43:08 wherever the limit is but don't I have the right to say no warranty yes and

43:13 that's true but NVIDIA has always covered this and now they have pulled it

43:17 back that's to taking away an advantage of your product um if you if you run a

43:23 company for 20 years I'm just pulling random numbers um 20 years and you've

43:27 always had one big strong thing that everyone really likes you for and then

43:31 you take it away you can't expect people to just be like oh yeah that totally

43:34 makes sense people are going to be upset it's annoying um and like putting people

43:40 in weird situations like MSI where they have to backpedal from their overvolting

43:43 where that was so cool the 660 Ti power Edition was epic I love that card and

43:47 now so basically it's a business decision at the end of the day it comes

43:51 back to that you know what it comes back to that whole like die size and margins

43:56 and shrinking business because Graphics as as I mean everyone wants to talk

44:00 about PC gaming isn't dying PC gaming is not dying League of Legends most played

44:05 game in history right here's the problem though is that League of Legends does

44:09 not help sell graphics cards that's true that is true high-end PC gaming has been

44:14 a very sad thing for a very long time um

44:17 Crisis 3 I'm hoping starts to turn this around they I've heard that it will I've

44:26 screw your graphics card and your memory and your CPU I'm going to crush it all

44:31 so great I think that's great for PC gaming um Star Citizen using cry engine

44:36 3 y looks really exciting space Sim game so I'm hoping it all turns around but

44:42 when when when guys pitch those sort of PC gaming as growing numbers they're

44:45 talking wow they're talking Leal Legends uh Wow's going down actually okay

44:50 whatever they're talking about mainstream stuff pegle these are

44:54 technically PC games these are technically PC Gamers but they're not

44:58 buying GTX 680s No so at the end of the day NVIDIA again is a public company

45:03 what do they have to do they have to reduce their rmas they have to find

45:07 other ways to tighten up their business they have to take smaller dieses 680 is

45:11 a smaller die size than I think at least

45:15 three or four generations back of high-end cards one thing too though like

45:19 uh NVIDIA's always had there it's in the game campaign but they used to be way

45:23 more aggressive about it and stuff like Borderlands where they made it kind of

45:27 cheesy where it's just it detects what kind of graphics card you have and literally takes things out of the game

45:32 if you have an ATI card have you seen that yeah I showed you that okay um it's

45:36 pretty brutal like they'll take out water pipes that shoot water out ATI

45:40 cards can create water I'm sure that's not a big deal um but they just removed

45:44 it from the game like if they changed their push with that and made it so that

45:47 NVIDIA sponsored games were just intense and had awesome Graphics hardware and

45:52 really really really good resolutions and just

45:56 conses and by the sound of things Wii U isn't going to turn it all around no not

46:00 exactly but like there is games coming out look at Kickstarter there's so many

46:04 games coming out that are just PC right so do it for the games that are just PC

46:08 why would NVIDIA sponsor a game that's coming out on Kickstarter is kind of the best thing to happen to the PC gaming

46:12 industry like ever it's actually been kind of amazing cuz the whole problem

46:15 with PC gaming and you guys can argue about it till you're bleue in the face the problem with PC gaming has been

46:20 piracy because at the end of the day it's the most pirated platform so if

46:24 you're going to produce a game for one platform it's not going to be PC period

46:30 um on the other hand Kickstarter takes all the risk away from the developer

46:35 although I would argue that the well yeah because they get the money up front

46:38 they know at least their cost is covered so if anyone buys the game then it will

46:42 be profitable it's it's already profitable in a lot of situations because they're selling the game in a

46:46 lot of in almost every single every single Kickstarter situation um you're

46:51 buying it or if you're going below the buying price which most people don't

46:54 don't tell my wife I I don't if you can hear us but I'm actually thinking about

46:58 buying the $250 Star Citizen package oh my goodness it comes no it comes with

47:02 the baller ship for if you do one of my friends for

47:06 my birthday bought me the star citizen package not not the two I think it's the

47:10 one that just gets you the game just the game okay and I I get a ship but it's

47:14 not like the most amazing thing um so basically I get to blow you up right

47:17 when the game comes out in yeah I don't

47:20 think I get Alpha either I get I think I get ba oh you don't get Alpha I don't

47:24 think so so basically by by the time you get beta I'll be an expert and my ship

47:28 will be Ownage and H I wonder if you get to carry that onward anyways um yeah I

47:33 got to carry it on I actually I don't know yeah I don't know a lot of them don't let you um so anyway sorry you

47:38 were saying kickstarters include the game I'm trying to remember where I was

47:42 going with that yeah so a lot of their sales are already done right that's the

47:45 thing and they have to calculate calculate that in like yes this budget

47:50 gets to go towards the development of the game but that budget also has to go

47:53 towards paying everyone because a huge portion most of their

47:59 sales are done before the game is released right which is kind of a really

48:02 interesting platform kind of scary really scary for a lot of people but no

48:07 they're also hitting like 300% of their margins in a lot of situations project

48:10 eternity was insane project attorney wanted like I don't remember the numbers

48:14 I'm sorry but I think they wanted like $800,000 and they ended up getting

48:18 almost 4 million wow okay uh okay here's

48:21 the risk then because okay so your point that most of the sales are probably

48:27 launches would counter that and I would say many customers will be very UNC

48:32 unless it's an extremely reputable developer about giving money to a

48:36 developer basic there's no way to get Kickstarter money back no um if if it

48:40 doesn't hit their anyways yeah keep going well no if the project goes ahead

48:44 they say thank you for the money it's a Kickstarter it's it's a it's a it's a

48:47 seed fund you don't get it back if the project sucks or the game isn't very

48:51 good so you're paying 40 bucks for the game that's that's the cost of a game on

48:56 Steam or whatever discounted game um what if it turns into a Duke Nukem

49:00 Forever type of fiasco where 13 years later you paid $40 for this game did

49:05 speaking did you see the Google image of the guy who had his original pre-order

49:09 yeah anyway from it was like all decrepit but that's the situation that

49:12 we could potentially be creating so I think lots of people will hold out until

49:15 the game's done yeah and they can do that one thing you're doing is like uh

49:19 if any you guys follow the project attorne one Obsidian made some of the

49:23 most iconic games that have ever been rele relas but lately haven't been doing

49:27 that amazing uh they have publicly blamed this previously on the people

49:31 that have been funding them they pushed the project dates they pushed the project dates then the game is released

49:36 uncomplete Brink think about Brink for a second Brink was like one of the biggest

49:41 disappointments of a game that I've ever released I was so excited for brink and

49:44 then it was so terrible because it was so obviously unfinished um it was not

49:50 polished the single player was multiplayer with Bots that was literally

49:53 like you click on single player and you might like it's the exact same map

49:57 that's in multiplayer you do the exact same thing except there's bots on your

50:01 team and bots on the other team like that's not a single player there's

50:04 random cinematics as you're running through it's like oh cinematic randomly like what I don't care this means

50:09 nothing it was just horribly unpolished and uncomplete and if you get your

50:14 budget from fans and you can set it whatever date you want is well you have

50:19 to set it yeah within reason within reason because you have to set a date and then

50:23 conf your fans have to accept that date when they're paying for it so they have

50:26 to know it has to be reasonable but you can have these allowances that you've

72:47 I would like to I would like to direct your attention to this when is the last

72:53 time you went to your local big box retailer and checked out the prices of

72:58 TVs how much do they cost nothing

73:01 compared to before people bought big TVs before so a 55 in TV you can get for as

73:06 little as I think around 600 700 800 bucks so if that costs $800 and yes the

73:13 pixel density is lower but I still don't think the pixel density of of you know a

73:19 30in version of that should be you know an engineering or manufact in Nightmare

73:24 so this is only $800 the density we need is like 80

73:30 bucks 90 bucks why isn't there something

73:33 in the middle that marries these two things it just doesn't seem that

73:38 complicated it really it shouldn't be that hard it just should not be that

73:42 hard I mean okay here couple things yields so it comes down to the same

73:45 thing we were talking about with die size for chips before you have to have a

73:49 yield of a panel so if you go okay like

73:54 they build they build LCDs in in large large large panels they cut them up

73:58 essentially like they cut them up okay so if you're going to manufacture rtina

74:01 displays you're going to manufacture a big old thing like this and you're going to go okay here's all the places with

74:05 defects that we can't use and you cut around them

74:08 essentially so okay if you build a bigger high density panel you're going

74:13 to lose some yep but then you build it into the price exactly you always build

74:19 that into price that's part of business and then the other thing is the demand

74:23 the demand for these high density panels is extremely high you look at something

74:26 like Nexus 10 um where what what is they what are they 1920 x 12 no is it 2560 I

74:32 think so I think it's 2560 by 1600 which is ridiculous and honestly tiger 3 is

74:37 not fast enough for that I'm I'm really excited for like a Nexus 10.2 or
