0:01 all guys welcome to the W show that show
0:05 once a week that's all like
0:08 w r Where We complain about things do do
0:13 we I I think we sometimes don't complain about things we defin
0:17 when and
0:23 then all right went
0:28 nowhere that went nowhere in a hurry I mean we've been we've we've been live
0:33 for a minute and we've already had two jokes fall completely
0:38 flat we're off to a rough start here that was awesome okay do you want me to
0:43 start so that you can do your long yes because I will actually do it
0:47 right phone locking phone unlocking in the states is now actually legal and
0:52 they now have $12 Wireless plans so that you can use selective Social Services
0:57 not Social Services social
1:01 there social things that are also services on your phone Social Services
1:04 has a pretty specific meaning I'm going to call social
1:08 services on you no speaking of Social
1:12 Services and abuse he is getting abused
1:16 by the Oculus DK2 which is getting like
1:19 zero day patches like multiple times a
1:23 day like well the different like the different games and applications and
1:27 stuff are all updating because the backend SDK
1:30 for dk1 went up to 0.3 and then for DK2
1:35 support they're like you need 0.4 so a lot of things don't really work yay um
1:40 also it uses a screen from a Galaxy Note 3 which is kind of interesting um next
1:44 up we've got unsurprisingly GTX 880
1:48 rumors are circulating and actually
1:51 surprisingly GTX 99d rumors are
1:54 circulating so we'll go through all that rumor mill stuff because I legitimately
1:59 know nothing about either of them yay
2:03 that's always fun not yay
2:08 work
2:28 yay how's your rap coming uh my rrap is
2:31 done actually have you heard it yet no
2:35 oh all right well this is you're going to like this all right sponsoring the
2:38 show today we have dollarshaveclub.com shave time shave money actually had
2:43 someone complain about that pun on our last Dollar Shave Club spot believe it
2:47 or not I didn't make it up so there you
2:51 go also oops no that's not the oh oh
2:54 this is terrible this is bad news okay well whatever there's music now squ spay
3:00 Squarespace is the fast easy way to create a beautiful website that works on
3:04 your computer on your tablet and I'm just going to yell over this music right
3:08 now because Squarespace is so good that
3:11 it's like
3:14 loud we do legitimately like Squarespace a lot though to be uh to be completely
3:20 clear we we use it both personally and
3:23 uh and for the business it's good for a lot of different stuff all right us
3:27 let's kick things off with
3:31 Obama thanks Obama no legitimately
3:34 thanks Obama this is very important uh so this was originally posted by JK snow
3:39 on the Forum who has 342 posts has a
3:44 picture of a girl wearing a lot of
3:47 mascara like that is a lot of mascara um
3:51 anyway more importantly right in 2000 okay I think that uh I think that that
3:56 might actually be wrong I believe the law was actually passed in 2012 but the
4:01 point is that there was a law passed in the US that prohibited users from
4:06 unlocking their phones users who unlocked their phones could face prison
4:10 time or massive sixf figure fines in
4:14 penalties which is insane I mean it's
4:19 insane let's look at this from the carrier perspective for a second okay so
4:23 they sell you a contract okay so you're locked in you're going to pay them
4:28 however much per month and you're going to use their service and you're going to
4:31 pay it okay then they sell you a phone
4:34 now they can either sell you the phone by itself for full ticket price or they
4:40 can bundle it with a contract and then they can sell you an inflated contract
4:45 price with a reduced price phone and you're subsidizing the phone with the
4:48 contract now either way whether you
4:51 bought the phone outright and signed a contract with them at a lower price or
4:55 whether you bought the phone partially and signed a contract to pay an inflated
5:01 price the phone belongs to you yeah if
5:04 you terminate the contract you have to pay the remainder of the value of the
5:08 phone that you own or that you owe so
5:12 why shouldn't you have the right to change carriers well there's a couple of
5:16 reasons number one is exclusive devices where they work out deals with phone
5:20 manufacturers like Verizon for example being the only one with the Droid DNA
5:24 and AT&T being the only one with the ASUS um pad phone X
5:32 but that's not a legal thing and who
5:35 cares and and that's not that's not a
5:38 legal problem the government the police
5:42 should not be wasting resources on this shouldn't be involved in this crap so
5:48 makes no sense basically what's going on is it's effective today it's no longer
5:53 illegal to unlock a phone in the United States you know what's funny is I
5:57 actually ran into issues with this myself even though I'm in Canada because
6:02 I would be seeded us version phones for
6:05 reviews and I would say yo dog I ain't
6:08 got no AT&T up here so I need this
6:11 unlocked and they'd be like no can do really sorry I won't say
6:18 who it was but someone did it but that's exactly it how are they going to enforce
6:22 that rubbish like of course you can do it so okay the good news is that an IDI
6:29 iotic law that never should have existed has been done away with but the bad news
6:35 is that it actually doesn't mean
6:38 anything this does nothing to prevent I
6:41 I know a ton of people that were already unlocking their phones in the States
6:44 because like you just said how are you supposed to enforce this anyways so it's
6:48 super Dum ridiculous and this doesn't do
6:51 anything about phones that are just enforced by the manufacturer or by
6:56 particularly the manufacturer where the manufacturer is enforcing no unlocking like the iPhone cuz it's also not
7:00 illegal for them to lock and protect the lock on their phone that's right so it
7:05 does absolutely nothing um and I wish
7:08 that this was better news than it was I've seen a lot of people really excited
7:12 about this news and as much as it's as
7:15 as it's at least a step backward from
7:19 the wrong direction it's not a step in the right direction yet there are
7:23 countries where these kinds of lockdowns
7:26 are illegal because should because it's a consumer protection issue it's it's
7:31 it's basically an anti-competitive Behavior to go not only am I going to
7:36 get you to sign a contract that says you can't go with someone else during this
7:40 time and then we're going to subsidize a phone with that even if you do want to
7:44 break the contract and pay off the phone I'm that's a brick now so whatever dog
7:49 and the other thing too is and aside from that even if it was mandated that
7:54 legally they had to unlock them they're still allowed to charge you for it and
7:57 there's no limit although hearing Canada I think the average is around 50 bucks
8:02 yeah yeah and whereas you can get a code online
8:07 for like six yeah so this this should have well I I wanted to unlock my iPhone
8:11 4 and I wasn't able to yeah yeah and that funny thing about that one is that
8:16 if I recall correctly it didn't matter
8:19 that the phone was completely paid off subsidy wise my contract that the phone
8:25 was tied to wasn't up because that
8:28 contract changed because I moved from NC
8:32 owning my phone plan to me owning it and it renewed for a new chunk so I ended up
8:38 not being able to unlock it within the useful lifetime of that phone oh my God
8:42 ridiculous kind of ridiculous I gave my brother my old S3 so that he could work
8:47 with it and try and fix it and give it to his girlfriend because his girlfriend had an ancient phone anyways so he ended
8:53 up figuring that out and wanted to unlock it so I used my unlock code that
8:57 I bought for it when we were in Taiwan again and it re unlocked the phone for
9:02 free free I had already paid for it but I had done this like two or three times
9:06 already and it still worked and cost me like $6 when I did it so just in case
9:12 you're waning on how to do it there's like a billion in one websites that can do it for you speaking of but I've heard
9:18 that the unlocking iPhones you pretty much have to get it done through your
9:21 carrier and it's like super crazy expensive although there's some
9:25 jailbreaking thing that you can do but then I I think it's like a lot of work
9:29 and a pain in the ass or something or something like that and I think his
9:33 girlfriend didn't want that done or I don't remember speaking of bogus unlocking codes uh this was actually a
9:37 pretty funny article I read this week it's not in our it's not in the do yeah
9:41 yeah um so shiron Parish Jr allegedly
9:46 scammed Apple not once but 42 times uh
9:49 basically the trick is that you here we go hold on so it's an authorization code
9:55 scam and it's apparently amazingly simple so you visit an Apple Store try
9:59 to buy products with four different debit cards which were all closed by the
10:03 respective financial institutions when his debit card was inevitably declined
10:07 by the Apple Store he would protest and offer to call his bank except he was
10:10 just pretending to call someone so the complaint says he would offer Apple
10:14 store employees a completely fake authorization code with a certain number
10:19 of digits which would normally Pro be provided by credit card issuers to
10:22 create a record of the credit or debit override but the problem with this
10:26 system is that as long as the number of digits is is correct the authorization
10:31 code actually isn't meaningful in any way it's just a record it's a log yeah
10:36 yeah so all they had was a record of him approving his own overrides you got to
10:42 you got to wonder 42 times like this is like 300 Grand at some point do you just
10:47 kind of go this worked really well maybe I should go to perhaps a different store
10:53 like not the Apple Store maybe I should hit someone else change it up a little
10:58 bit he even hit the same exact storefront twice yeah like dude I mean
11:04 it's one of those things like hilarious Thief footage is always funny because
11:08 it's like what kind of people b& well
11:11 usually winners right um where they just do this amazingly ridiculous stuff yeah
11:18 um my favorite is sorry I'm going to interject here my favorite is the guy
11:21 that's sprinting through the mall and then runs through the glass door and
11:24 just like Kap the glass shadow and he just slaps
11:30 it to the ground and doesn't move and I was like wow you literally just knocked
11:34 yourself out spectacularly good
11:38 job all right what else we got here oh this is more more good news on the uh
11:44 wireless carrier front um
11:47 Sprint is going to be selling a or is selling whatever a $12 Wireless plan
11:54 that connects to Twitter Instagram Pinterest or Facebook
12:00 okay I think it's a bunch of ores like Twitter or Instagram or Pinterest or
12:05 Facebook okay so basically instead of buying a bucket of data customers can
12:10 pay less for just the app that they use
12:14 the
12:18 most other apps might be added in the
12:21 future um and this new plan is only available at Walmart and the base
12:25 offering covers just 20 minutes of talk and 20 texts but with unlimited access
12:31 to one of the above social media
12:35 platforms um well what I would like to see I think they had something coming
12:39 let me just have a look I think there was something for uh a music streaming
12:42 service as well um but the the stupid
12:45 thing about this is that T-Mobile is already allowing unlimited music
12:51 streaming service that doesn't count against your data plan so when you use a
12:55 service like uh Spotify for example
13:00 so yeah I just don't really understand
13:05 if they enable Skype I could see people using it because you can do text and
13:09 voice calling through that so if you wanted a really basic phone but then why
13:13 would you need data so so yeah so the plan starts at $7 a month with uh each
13:19 service costing $5 or $15 for unlimited
13:23 use of all four oh there we go so even
13:27 then though we're talking about
13:31 2022 when you could sign with like for
13:34 example whose run on the Sprint network and
13:39 really just have a complete pay as you go solution like you know how their
13:42 billing works right yeah the only thing is I always forget about Ting because we
13:46 don't have them I know we don't have them but they are they are sponsor of
13:50 the show and they are awesome and they are legit whenever I think about like
13:54 planning out cuz I I still have to switch carriers or do something yeah you
13:58 have to do something cuz I need that phone back at some point and but like oh
14:03 my God they all suck I don't know what to do they all suck I know Ting come to
14:09 Canada all right speaking of things that don't suck or that do suck wait here
14:13 this doesn't suck so krych has secured a
14:16 new source of capital to take care of itself in the longer term so this was
14:21 posted by Pokemon trainer 4 and
14:25 basically the whole history here so the original articles from PC Gam
14:29 let's just fire fire this up the whole history here is that rumors were
14:32 circulating that they were out of money and then they denied it and then sort of
14:39 somewhere in the mix here employees stopped showing up for work and filed
14:44 grievances about not being paid allegedly yeah and then krych came out
14:50 and said yeah we're in a bit of a pickle not allegedly officially and then now
14:55 basically all they're saying about this is we've got got the money um we're
15:01 making it we're in a transitionary stage right now so we're moving from you know
15:06 a game developer to a I don't know to to
15:11 online publisher Someone pasted some
15:14 other sentence in the middle of the one I'm trying to read to online publisher
15:17 they have the funding they need uh no further details will be
15:22 communicated radio silence and the only article I could find that wasn't from
15:26 exactly a week ago was from 5 days ago saying they followed up and heard
15:30 nothing so I'm guessing that's the last we're going to hear of it they are moving to be an online publisher and
15:36 there we go so that's it so cry's not going anywhere I mean this was mostly
15:40 like I wasn't too worried about getting a sequel to Rise Son Of Rome um so this
15:45 was mostly a worry because I was looking at all the games that are going to be
15:49 running cry engine over the next little bit kind of going well cry engine's
15:53 great um a lot of these games are great and if they could keep using cry engine
15:57 that would be great be great yeah so it looks like that's happening
16:02 um they're going to be fine at least that's what they say but it wouldn't be
16:05 the first time they lied I guess so I don't know what to make of any of this I
16:09 wonder if it's a ditch effort to keep more employees I don't know but what's
16:13 the point of keeping the employees if you can't afford to pay them anyway yeah it's true but I do wonder about stuff
16:18 like THQ where they had to close down but they had like two or three fairly
16:23 major game launches like right after they close down like if they able to
16:26 hold out for two more months they might have been totally fine well I mean they
16:31 they tried remember they did that crazy Humble Bundle um I almost wonder if they
16:36 had communicated why they had to do the Humble Bundle if more people would have
16:41 jumped behind it if more people would have jumped on it or if people would have contributed more to it yeah um
16:47 speaking of humble bundles is that square Humble Bundle still running I
16:50 think so think so uh so there's a square sale on our Square Enix I guess sorry
16:55 Square Enix sale on Humble Bundle and I was a little bit Mis yeah here it is um
17:01 I was a little bit misled because no wait there's a Humble Bundle no there's
17:04 a there's like a sale as well I think it's a different thing anyway the point is it's in the Humble Store uh the point
17:09 is that I was misled I was told that it had Final Fantasy 6 in it but it was
17:14 actually Final Fantasy 3 which is what six was called for the North American
17:18 release I think someone was confused anyway they do have seven and eight for
17:21 PC I believe they also have three for PC they got Tomb Raider in there which I'm
17:26 finally playing now I'm actually really enjoying it so far I'm playing it on my
17:29 shield it's good same place I play all my games although I'm playing it through
17:32 on The Shield tablet I'm determined to play through an entire game on Shield
17:36 tablet and see how it goes um speaking of playing through an entire game on
17:39 Shield tablet uh remember those controllers that we got with the back
17:43 buttons yes I spent some time which ones
17:46 um the ones with the mushy back buttons mushy back buttons yeah the rear buttons
17:50 that you could circular ones what the like circular back buttons yeah okay
17:55 yeah so so so those controllers I was using the Xbox One one with Tomb Raider
17:59 on the PC for a little bit it's not as bad as I thought the mushiness actually
18:05 helps you grip the controller without actuating them my problem was my hand
18:10 was too big so it was pressing in like here I'm like I can't I'll spend some
18:14 more time with them and we'll talk about them more on the show later um speaking
18:18 of talking more on the show later uh there may not be me on the show next
18:23 week because my wife's due date for the new baby is actually four days from now
18:28 so I could get a call right now and I'd
18:31 be like peace and uh and that would be that so that's happening real soon it's
18:35 going to be an entire oh let's do a straw pole it's going to be an entire
18:40 week of Luke Tech tips you guys because
18:44 don't have backlog of your stuff maybe a little bit but it'll otherwise be you so
18:48 okay so we're going to have super happy we just lost an entire video of mine
18:55 cool yeah woo that's good news
19:00 okay how excited are you for Luke Tech
19:04 tips week um um I believe on April fools it
19:09 was called slick Tech tips not very a
19:13 bit not at
19:16 all okay so let's go ahead and post this
19:20 straw poll here guys remember do not click on straw Poes that weren't posted
19:24 by me or a mod in the Forum or the
19:28 twitch chat it's called whatever there
19:32 you go guys start adding your uh we
19:35 should make the whole twitch chat just a giant Forum thread oh I'm logged in as
19:39 you so there's like a whole bunch of lch spamming CU we're both doing it
19:44 y all right so let's go ahead and throw those results up on the screen so you
19:49 guys can watch them be tabulated as they come in what's our next topic here our
19:52 next topic is let's leave that one that was boring
20:00 how about the Blackberry one okay okay so Blackberry is evidently the only
20:05 phone maker that can meet the German Ministries security standards so I guess
20:09 they're the only phone maker that can protect you against the NSA a little
20:13 bit I don't know I think that's it seems like what Germany's security standards
20:18 are kind of based on right now it does kind of seem that way ever since that uh
20:23 ever since what what did they do they tapped into her phone yeah it's like
20:27 genius way to make friends guys I know way to make friends okay so do you want
20:31 to do the run through here uh the ministry uses 3,000 encrypted Blackberry
20:36 devices outfitted with technology made by German security firm seu smart I like
20:42 how so many different security firms just put seu and then something yeah I
20:47 know it's like good job being creative
20:50 guys hopefully you're creative with your technology I would call mine Su you
20:56 all it's the most secure all
21:01 wow yeah theirs is the smartest though
21:04 smartest but mine's mine's the highest SE most smart most
21:09 smart seu smarter SE smarter um I don't
21:13 know it makes sense I I don't know if this is going to be enough for
21:16 Blackberry really I think again they need to just really focus on software
21:21 Solutions cuz if even if they could make like an offshoot of Android that had
21:25 their technology built into it I think people would be more acceptive there's a
21:28 lot of problems with developing Fork versions of Android though Google
21:31 doesn't like it that's true and they basically make life difficult for you or
21:35 any OEM who builds devices for you like it's really bad yeah so in order for
21:42 them to and the other thing about Android is that no matter how much you
21:45 lock Android down no matter how much Samsung wants to talk about how secure
21:50 Android is with it's it's yeah it's not
21:53 it's by its nature very hackable it's think like a dual boot style though
21:59 you know the work at home system M like what if the work system was a completely
22:03 different OS on the device but then if you totally broke
22:07 through Android you can still get to the file manager and access that and you look at how pissed off and uh Google was
22:13 about running Windows and Android on the same oh notebook that's true so is that
22:17 going to be any different if you want to run Blackberry OS and Android on the
22:20 same phone I don't think so probably worse probably worse I would think so y
22:25 yeah um so what else do we have any other information about them
22:29 the the handsets incorporate SE smart micro SD cards that act as a separate
22:33 hard drive oh my goodness this is what I was trying to talk about U for
22:36 confidential information that can't be access can't be accessed by hackers that
22:41 is don't say that that was dumb what are
22:44 you doing
22:47 smart like you not that smart um they're
22:51 sold by the German company for
22:55 €2,000 okay so if Blackberry gets Cuts that's how comes back okay makes sense
23:01 um German publication build recently reported that the country's interior
23:05 Ministry was looking for to buy 20,000
23:09 yeah if blackberry's getting a cut of that that'll help a little bit not
23:12 enough to like save their company but hopefully enough that we can still have
23:16 that Canadian company but at least this is some good news for them and then
23:20 other people might be interested because they might hear about this I mean if Blackberry were to manage to become the
23:25 de facto standard for government use again how quickly would corporations
23:30 corporations and anyone who's scared of the NSA and then once they gain that
23:35 share back how quickly do we start to see some app developers give two cares
23:38 about it I mean mind you you can you can load Android apps now anyway but the
23:41 point is how quickly would it turn back into something that actually matters I
23:45 don't know cuz honestly I really liked the the social thing on BlackBerry yep
23:50 and it was it was actually really usable I I think it would be interesting to try
23:53 Blackberry again now that the Google Play Store is just straight up inside of
23:57 it because because I think that would actually make things quite different
24:00 there's not a ton else on here that's about all there is to say so
24:05 let's go to our straw pole results shall
24:08 we so 48% of you said wet uh 36% of you
24:14 said vary with 9% of you saying a bit 5%
24:18 of you saying not at all and 2% of you
24:21 saying not veryy so mostly people seem to be uh seem to PR pretty down for the
24:25 whole wet Luke's Tech tips about uh the
24:30 game controller what's up oh oh yeah we should definitely move on to the game
24:34 controller so this this is a Kickstarter
24:37 that let me tell you guys I was oh what
24:42 why is this post gone on the Forum what did someone
24:48 do okay game controller here we go okay
24:54 so here's the article from end Gadget and you know what you know what makes me
24:58 really upset about that look how well search optimized we were on this
25:05 post and that post is gone anyway so
25:08 here's the article on end Gadget the game controller that trains your pelvic
25:13 floor muscles so uh the package will
25:16 come with an iOS or Android game called
25:19 Alice in continent which is a joke
25:23 because incontinent means you can't control your you know latter and stuff
25:29 so basically the idea is that by doing keegle exercises you will be able to
25:34 improve the strength of pelvic muscles which is great for pregnancy and
25:38 improving Sensations in women um last
25:42 time I checked the kickstarter really wasn't doing very well it's not making
25:46 it it hasn't it hasn't gotten better is it not making it I think it's going to
25:50 not make it by a fair amount that is a bummer oh only 12 days to go they should
25:57 have worked on their kicker exercises exercises so they're uh let me
26:03 see where it is yeah so Tatiana Kenova
26:07 kova okay okay whatever Guinness World Record holder of pelvic strength kova
26:14 says that uh sure so the point is that this will help you exercise and uh and
26:19 be better at that I mean it's a real thing it's like a healthc care
26:23 professional you know thing to oh who
26:26 did this did someone
26:29 oh apparently that thread was moved to spam so some moderator on the Forum is
26:35 getting in trouble I've seen a lot worse stuff than that make its way through all
26:38 right so let's move on to our next topic slightly more Tech related hopefully we
26:42 haven't completely destroyed all of your guys' uh eyeballs over there you I think
26:47 that thing's fine but whatever I don't think there's anything wrong with it me
26:51 neither all right who moved
26:55 that okay let's move on to our next topic though all right so in NVIDIA has
26:59 evidently found a way to quadruple
27:02 display performance in low res LCDs kind
27:07 of Beast which is pretty darn cool so
27:10 instead of using a single higher resolution panel they're actually using
27:16 two lower resolution panels directly
27:19 over top of each other to achieve pretty much the same effect as a single higher
27:25 resolution panel which is like pretty ban is an actually kind of amazing is it
27:30 quite as good well no no the answer is
27:33 the answer is definitely no but it does make a significant difference so their
27:38 researchers disassembled two 1280x 800 LCD panels and rebuilt them into a
27:43 single display with slightly offset
27:46 pixels a filter to weed out polarization conflicts and a bit of customized
27:50 software to force the display components to work in tandem they're calling the
27:55 Prototype a cascaded display and tests
27:58 it has quadrupled the spatial resolution of the original panels which is pretty
28:02 darn cool now to be clear guys resolution actually refers to what your
28:06 eyes perceive not a set of numbers so
28:10 resolution can double without you know
28:14 doubling the number of pixels or quadrupling them or whatever it is as it
28:17 were brain explosion brain explosion um
28:21 pretty cool I think it's cool because hopefully this will lead way to stuff
28:25 that we're seeing from like segue to the Intel thing the Intel shark I mean it's
28:29 not perfect the viewing angles aren't great and the brightness is definitely
28:33 reduced uh it's not the first time I've ever actually used a display that has
28:37 stacked panels the last time I used one was an IED 3D 3D gaming display it was a
28:41 1680 by 1050 I always forget that R 1680
28:45 X 1050 3D display that had two different
28:50 um panels that and then it had um instead of uh active shutter glasses it
28:56 had polarized filters different ones on so that you could only see one of the
29:00 panels which in theory it didn't work very well but um I'm just hoping this
29:04 will lead to thinner things behind displays that would be nice ah very cool
29:10 though I mean we H pixel density is so
29:14 high at this point and it's not so I mean okay for things like Oculus I can
29:19 see it mattering for things like a desktop display though I really don't
29:23 think manufacturing two lower resolution panels is going to be something that
29:27 makes any sense in the near future I don't even Oculus you don't think so not
29:32 really cuz they need much higher raw resolution panels and it's really close
29:36 to your face so you're going to notice any weirdness yeah so I think they just
29:41 need like a super baller panel speaking of super baller panels and Oculus you
29:45 want to take this one sure posted originally by dri W sorry I had to get
29:50 that in go ahead no worries I fix it ripped apart a I had to get that
29:55 in sorry go ahead um I fixed it ripped
29:59 apart of DK2 delicately not ripped it apart they nicely took apart of DK2
30:04 sometimes they rip things apart do they sometimes
30:08 really oh god um hey if we get to see
30:12 the insides that's cool I'm not going to tear mine apart but they found as you
30:15 can see here uh maybe not that one yeah
30:19 this is the interface yeah but can you see the one where it actually shows like there we go it is a you sound like uh
30:26 what's the sponge thing SpongeBob oh I actually have never watched
30:30 SpongeBob I don't know if I've seen a whole episode but I've seen his laugh
30:33 that remind me of his laugh anyways this is a panel from a Note 3 down to as you
30:38 can see holes for the things on the Note 3 I believe it even has a hole for the
30:42 home button um like yeah directly taken
30:47 from that but that's cool this is again a dev kit so I believe it was said
30:52 somewhere at some point in time that once the consumer version comes out they
30:55 will be having their own panels for everything but as of right now they're
30:59 just like easy yep yeah because we need
31:02 you guys to be able to work on it and this thing had an AMOLED panel and good
31:06 resolutions and all that kind of stuff so totally good yeah so 1080p display
31:11 and then they actually overclocked it a touch to run at a higher 75 HZ refresh
31:15 rate so something of note guys is as
31:18 much as people might want to debate can you see 30 FPS or 60 FPS or whatever
31:23 else uh from personal experience even overclocking a panel a little bit past
31:28 60 HZ does make a big difference going from 120 to 144 frankly I can't tell but
31:34 going from 60 to 72 which is as far as I
31:38 got my old Samsung 305t my old 30-in monitor that my cat jumped on I never
31:42 actually got to use it like that cuz I wasn't using it at the time that we did
31:47 that how to overclock your monitor thing and then my cat broke it before I
31:50 finished building my system so I never actually got to game on it at 72 Herz
31:56 but that was as far as I got on it and made a significant difference so um well
32:01 he he like he tested it he just didn't get to yeah anyways um yeah I don't know
32:05 it matters my favorite thing is the low persistance which you can notice a lot
32:10 once I get you sitting down with both of them side by side it's interesting to
32:13 get into a certain game where you have to like whip your head to the side and
32:17 there's text and interface elements and stuff and with dk1 it'll look like
32:21 complete mush and then with DK2 it's very solid because a low persistence
32:26 thing is turning off the panel between
32:29 frames so that it isn't persisting on the screen for too long but it does it
32:33 so quickly that you don't notice right that actually helps a lot really really
32:37 good the high resolution and low persistance helps a ton we'll have a
32:40 video on that at some point in time we're waiting because I got mine
32:44 actually still relatively early before some devs are even getting theirs so
32:49 most of the big devs already have theirs obviously but it's taking a while for
32:52 everyone to move sdks to sdk4 which is where you get support for
32:57 the the camera and DK2 is kind of like automatic detection mode instead of just
33:02 screen extension mode um so we just yeah
33:07 kind of have to wait for that to be fully implemented so we can actually try
33:10 a whole bunch of different things Cu uh my idea for the video is to sit down
33:14 pretty much everybody in the office and have them try gaming normally game with
33:19 dk1 game with DK2 and get their thoughts on the comparisons of the three and
33:24 that's not really going to work if we only have like a couple Tech demos and
33:28 maybe a few other things because I want to get some very specific games running
33:32 on it so yeah that video will be coming at some point when it's doable and
33:36 hopefully you're still here yeah let's hope I mean if I'm not here I guess it's
33:40 not really the end of the world but uh yeah you guys I'm sure will do a good
33:44 job of it without me yay hopefully that's my way of saying a good job of it
33:49 better be done because I'm just going to say that's that's his way of saying don't screw
33:53 up cuz we're actually going to be doing our first set like I'm I'm determined to
33:57 make Media Group as much like a real company as possible so I'm I'm doing
34:01 performance reviews with everyone when I get back I actually borrow performance
34:06 review no can we all performance review you well there's that's going to be half
34:10 of each person's interview is like what
34:13 we can do better as well I was going to say we should get the entire company on
34:16 one side of the table and then you on the other so it's like the the Surfs
34:21 versus management fine but I get to have my
34:26 wife on my side too no we will lose that
34:29 is not fair that's not how this works she has
34:33 to be on our side
34:38 no all right what's next all right speaking of being on a side we are on
34:44 the side of Dollar Shave Club Dollar
34:47 Shave Club is the sponsor that forced
34:52 poor Taran to shave his beard we had
34:56 some of you happy about the beard shaving we had some of you extremely
35:00 upset about the beard shaving we should probably get a straw pull going straw
35:03 pole I was frightened were you happy or upset about taran's beard sh as one of
35:09 the options anyway so Dollar Shave Club what's the point if you guys aren't
35:12 already familiar with them is they for less than the price of going to the
35:17 store and buying razors with less of the hassle deliver highquality razors
35:22 directly to your door your first order gets you a handle and a set of blades
35:27 and then subsequent orders will include four of whatever blade type you want up
35:32 to their six blade
35:36 executive model that is uh pretty darn
35:39 executive I got to say six blades is like six more blades than no blades
35:45 which is better than not being able to shave your face at all just going to say
35:49 and they also have other stuff too so they have Dr Carver shave butter you
35:53 could probably shave your face with no blades which goes up you just might not
35:56 have that much face left like grind fingernail shave anyway
36:02 uh Dr Carver shave butter which goes on clear so you can see what you're doing
36:06 they have their new aftershave product which actually Taran tried it smells
36:10 quite nice and then finally speaking of things that smell nice one wipe
36:15 Charlie's peppermint scented butt wipes for men you know what's funny this like
36:20 sponsored bit was probably the one that I felt most awkward delivering at first
36:26 cuz I was like really I'm I'm like I'm
36:29 talking about butt wipes butt wipes but
36:33 you know what having a clean butt is good I mean have you ever sat next to
36:37 the person who kind of smells faintly of poo yeah
36:41 yeah can you imagine if they smelled a little bit like peppermint instead you
36:45 know what I'm really happy about is that is I I would appreciate you know that
36:50 like uh you're the real MVP thing is
36:53 like the guy that stinks on the airplane but brings a one wipe Charlie yeah
36:57 you're the real MVP you're the real I want to sit next to you for like 2 hours
37:00 if you smell like poo so anyway guys check it out dollarshaveclub.com they are a wonderful
37:05 supporter of lonus tech tips they sponsor Techquickie they sponsor lonus
37:09 Tech tips they sponsor the W show and all you have to lose by subscribing to
37:13 them is a few T trips to the store I
37:17 wasn't quite sure how I was going to turn that around because you're not really losing anything you can lose
37:23 negative things that's not really the point actually good so uh negative
37:28 negative positive negative negative positives sure
37:33 okay so here we go Squarespace is our
37:37 next sponsor and every month over the
37:41 next little while Squarespace is going to be giving you guys an opportunity to

38:07 Frankenstein this little bit of code and otherwise Cobble together into a
38:11 functional website their whole thing is they've got all that stuff built in so
38:14 if you want to make a Blog you want to make a portfolio you want to run a store
38:18 even I mean I know that uh Lou from unbox therapy his site runs on
38:23 Squarespace now he used to have his own thing we're using it for Linus Medi
38:27 group.com we used to be on WordPress I know Logan is using it for his store now
38:31 his epic pants.com store yeah like Squarespace is legit good chosen for use
38:37 by legit people and you should definitely try it out squar base.com
38:40 Linus for a free trial and to get 10% off use offer code Linus and use hash

38:55 a Squarespace sponsor spot you could win your Squarespace site for a year all the
39:01 hosting covered everything covered your subscriptions covered all of their
39:05 backend tools like their logo creator all completely covered so guys
39:09 definitely do that apparently MKBHD dcom
39:13 might also be Squarespace really yeah oh well coming soon powered by Squarespace
39:18 look at that it's like all the all the legit folks I'm I'm bunching myself in
39:24 with legit folks so that people will make the association
39:28 you know I guess you can do that that's fair oh yeah and I should probably also
39:32 mention this uh Squarespace has redone
39:35 their developer platform so if you're a developer you're definitely going to
39:38 want to go and check that out that's interesting yeah that's kind of cool you
39:43 should probably Che I haven't looked at it at all yet yeah I know this is this is brand new so there's a whole bunch of
39:48 new tools and stuff so it gives you full control over the HTML CSS and JavaScript
39:53 so that's kind of I don't think it had JavaScript support before I'm not sure
39:57 but it I don't think so and that's really nice yeah cool so there's a
40:02 there's another thing because I know you're working on a personal site with it right I'm taking more time than I had
40:06 originally planned but I like my new idea cool so oh well and I've kind of
40:10 dropped that with working on Squirtle version 2 right Have I Told yeah I've
40:15 told you about some of my plans for that yes so he's redoing his personal rig and
40:19 his personal website you should make your website about your personal rig
40:22 well I'm I'm waiting for it should have photographs and you should like learn
40:27 photography to take great photographs I was just going to get Brandon into so
40:30 you should learn you know I think we all don't
40:36 appreciate Brandon enough I do you know
40:39 he's my he's my bro on trips we're Team B man we're gonna bring hold on maybe
40:43 you don't appreciate we're gonna bring Brandon in here for for a moment of
40:47 appreciating Brandon okay hey Brandon
40:51 can you come here for a sec we have to appreciate you
40:57 why why okay okay okay here here we have to
41:02 bring we have to bring Brandon on for a moment of appreciation we just
41:06 appreciate you very much you film all the things edit all the things yep and
41:13 he's like scared he even he even came and did like a maternity like photo
41:17 shoot for me and my wife cuz he's a good guy good guy Brandon you guys should
41:22 follow him on Twitter I can't remember your Twitter handle _ the intern I want
41:27 to change it I want to change it now the
41:30 reason I haven't changed it is because when we ordered business cards yeah
41:35 that's what was on the business card and I have what is it 500 business cards
41:39 that have that Twitter handle on it been waiting to change it I have the other
41:43 one I want though so that's okay you got packs coming up so you can give out a
41:47 bunch there and then uh we've got CES
41:50 coming up you should give out the rest there just hand them off to someone just
41:53 take them all so I can order people's booths sleep en tire no one will
41:59 forget and then I change my Twitter handle and they they they can't find do
42:03 you like the business do the business card exchange
42:07 but give the guy a hundred here you go so it's actually worse to give out all
42:12 the business cards before you change the Twitter handle maybe tell you what why
42:17 don't you change the Twitter handle I'll buy you new business cards we'll call it
42:20 a great all right thanks Brandon now he's back to editing all the things if
42:25 you oh yeah I was going to ask him to close the door cuz I don't ask him to do
42:28 enough apparently so you're just going to you're just going to monopolize
42:31 Brandon's time and have him take pictures of your computer for you all
42:35 right well we gave him some appreciation for it at
42:38 least yeah so now we don't have to feel bad but yeah I wanted to I have I
42:43 started building my Squarespace site and I was like okay a lot of these layouts are honestly optimized very well for
42:48 having a lot of photos which is yes very Visual and then I was like I don't have
42:52 any problem I was like when I build my new
42:56 rig set up I'll get photos you know what I didn't even mention speaking of new
43:00 rigs our build guide that we did where Brandon stayed at the office with me
43:03 until 3 in the morning filming so that
43:07 was a uh I think taking out the meal breaks I think it was like a 15 or
43:12 16-hour day or something like that like some ludicrous winner yeah it was good
43:17 though we got the build guide done which is what it's all about all right well that was fun uh
43:22 let's move on to rumors shall we okay so first rumor is that the
43:29 GeForce GTX 880 has been
43:32 certified there's a question mark at the end of the headline here have we had an
43:36 880 rumor every week for last month oh
43:40 possibly yeah yeah that sounds about right so this is from video
43:45 card.com and the word on the street is that the GTX 880 will be coming sometime
43:50 in mid September they're apparently planning a big event for all major press
43:54 members from around the world and uh
43:58 prepare for boring Maxwell architecture presentations I wonder if video
44:02 cards.com is getting an invite yeah what the hell live streaming
44:07 new hardware and Jensen explaining why you should buy g-sync monitors and
44:11 shield tablets I wouldn't be surprised
44:14 if if he explains that we should buy gsync monitors and shield tablets especially cuz Shield at least the
44:19 concept I'm not that sold on the tablet personally not because it's a bad
44:23 product I'm just not a tablet user um love Shield and now that I'm using the
44:28 Rog Swift as my daily driver did I even tell you that uh no yeah I'm us I kind
44:33 of expected you to I'm using the r Swift every single time a new ASUS monitor
44:36 comes in you just take it seriously when was the last one you
44:42 didn't that's the answer I was looking for hold on hold on wait if I go back
44:49 far enough okay at my house right now I
44:52 have the pb287q so I have the 4K I have
44:56 the pa27 9 Q so that's that beautiful 10
44:59 bit panel that's like pretty baller that
45:03 you shouldn't have and then I have the r considering we have a Quadro here and
45:07 Brandon could use a 10 bit panel for editing no Brandon can't have a Quadro
45:11 yet he's going to get a Quadro when we do the upgrade is he then getting a 10
45:15 bit panel no I'll keep
45:19 it so next time a video doesn't look perfect and you know Brandon edit it
45:23 blame him uh you know what though we are going to do a bit of a monitor Truffle
45:27 Shuffle because we have that BenQ uh CAD one that 32 in that's actually using a
45:32 pretty nice VA panel so someone will get that that's okay for pretty rudimentary
45:37 color work actually pretty decent color work then we've also got um like are we
45:43 making sure everyone has at least one we're making we're going to make sure everyone has at least one pretty
45:46 accurate pretty accurate monitor is everyone getting quadros then uh no yeah
45:50 okay uh Taran is going to get a third monitor probably though he's asked for
45:54 one uh just because he his work flow
45:57 would make it a lot easier for him if he had a script above we're going to we're going to be covering all this of course
46:01 in the whole room water cooling upgrade thing speaking of
46:06 which what is this we had our first shipment of supplies arrive for it hold
46:11 up I can move mine you can here do you want to hold this up sure just kind of
46:16 hold it so so they can here it's okay to have it sort of tilted but not all the
46:21 way okay here we go okay so oh
46:27 yeah here we go uh you can go ahead and I think they'll get the
46:33 point yes
46:37 friends a master carton of Titan black
46:40 editions you know that graphics card that we never got one to do a review
46:43 about I know right now we have a lot you
46:47 know what's funny I got the okay okay this is great great story I got an email
46:51 from Acer today cuz did I already tell you that we're going to get a sample of
46:55 their upcoming 4k gsync yes okay so the thing about gsync is
47:00 that it works down to I oh shoot I
47:03 believe it's 25 frames per second 24 35
47:07 something like that if you dip too low it stops working because you can't leave
47:13 an image on the screen for too long it starts to degrade and you have to
47:17 refresh it so I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what that frame rate is but Acer
47:22 had some concerns about me reviewing their gsync monitor because if you don't
47:26 have a graphic setup that cannot dip below that you're going to see some
47:30 tearing and you're going to see some visual anomalies that otherwise g-sync
47:33 completely eliminates so they sent me this email they're like do you have a
47:38 system that's powerful enough to drive this monitor in games and I'm
47:44 like really really yeah I think I do I think
47:51 so I think we'll be okay I think we'll be all right so what we'll so what we'll
47:54 probably do is uh dual 780 Ti what I
47:57 expected go go to go to town on it should be good I may actually have to
48:00 borrow a rig just to do my review of that monitor cuz I've got a single Titan
48:04 in my machine that might not be enough you might need two monitors to drive
48:09 modern games at like CU you want to be
48:12 in that you don't really want to fall below 45 FPS cuz when I was at the demo
48:18 it looks pretty darn smooth down to about 45 your Titan's water cooled in
48:22 right it is you have quick disconnects on it no that's one thing I did for my
48:25 update right my card is be quick disconnected with those cool an black
48:28 ones oh my God anyway Sor is that where those all went no oh I got my own okay
48:34 where are they all oh they're on the bench that's right okay um anyways they
48:39 were like stupid expensive but after building them into that bench I was like yep need them um anyways uh what was I
48:45 going to say yeah you could have just swapped those in your system but you can just take a bench home yeah yeah I'll
48:49 probably just do that what I might do oh I should just swap a Titan black and
48:54 then bring the Titan here it's not that much slower someone can have a Titan
48:58 Brandon will never know the difference no you just had an appreciation thing
49:03 let's take advantage of Brandon no he should get a Titan black he should get a
49:06 Titan black Taran Taran edel and Brandon all need to get at least one each
49:12 there's five fine you can't take one of
49:15 those from all right so we never actually managed to talk about any of
49:18 the 880 rumors so the rumor is it's
49:22 going to be 4 gigs of RAM with a 256-bit interface uh we should apparent ly also
49:27 expect 8 gig models According to some leaked pictures um the rumor is that it
49:33 might not be the fastest card out there but it won't hurt your wallet too badly
49:38 so we're not going to see a flagship card launch at you know $7.99 or a
49:42 $1,000 like the Titan black speaking of hurting your wallet um crackling
49:48 packages do not make that easy yeah I know right it's twitch chat telling you
49:52 to do bad things again um however Etc etc etc so it's
49:57 basically a gk104 replacement according to the rumor on vide
50:01 cards.com but based on you know how
50:05 efficient Maxwell is based on how big we think the Chip is going to be it's
50:09 pretty safe to assume it will sit above 780 and maybe even above 780 Ti in terms
50:14 of performance so this could be a pretty darn ex uh exclusive card exclusive
50:21 pretty darn exciting card they're not making very many you have to be a part
50:25 of Team Green to get one
50:28 is team red yeah yeah that's a real thing I was that's why I was oh were you
50:33 making fun of team red oh okay well I wasn't making fun of team red I was like
50:37 the only thing about team red that kind of bothered me was AMD inviting me to
50:41 join it the Twitter pictures where no no not those hilarious no they invited me
50:46 to join it and I was just kind of sitting there I was going like look we
50:49 have a relationship and it's good but if I start joining team don't send us
50:54 anything to test or Team Green or team blue like if I start joining a team
50:59 that's stupid I'm supposed to beti right I might as well just not they
51:04 might as well just not send me a card and I'll make a review about how great
51:07 it is anyway if I join team red yeah like I I I I can't do stuff like that I
51:12 got to be I got to be looking at the product maybe that's what they were trying to do because they don't really
51:15 send us things so they're like if he just joins the team let's be fair to
51:19 them they send us most things most
51:23 there's only one there's only one product they haven't sent us in the last
51:27 year and that was the 295x2 so and I believe they did intend
51:32 to send one I think it just didn't really happen all right so we expect
51:36 rumors of an upcoming graphics card to start circulating but what we don't
51:41 normally expect is rumors of a graphics
51:44 card that is not coming anytime soon to start leaking um oh first of all the op
51:49 for that last topic was Victoria Secret and the op for this one is Big Earl so
51:54 thanks Big Earl but this is the room right now apparently even though the GTX
51:59 880 is allegedly going to be coming out
52:02 uh and this one says early or late October so let's just say late Q3 early
52:10 Q4 the rumor is that the GTX 990 will be
52:15 launching in early 2015 so the original
52:18 article here is from tweak toown so thanks to them for posting this this is
52:23 actually a relatively R reputable site
52:26 like we're not talking WCC for their audio playing ads except for their oh
52:32 shoot are we playing any no no they don't have any audio ads on right now
52:35 just be careful because it might randomly attack you even if you don't
52:39 refresh the page so they're saying they're we should expect NVIDIA to
52:42 completely skip the 20 nmet process going from 28 to 16 nanm which would
52:47 mean that if this is a large style chip
52:51 there could be a lot more logic in it compared to what we've seen in the past
52:56 the rumor is that this will be under the Maxwell architecture and that's probably
53:02 that probably pretty much goes without saying and then it won't stop there as
53:06 apparently we should see the GeForce 1000 series sometime in the next 18 to
53:10 24 months as well although I think that that as far as guesses go is about like
53:15 me saying the sun will probably set sometime in the next 5 hours because new
53:22 video cards come like eventually yep and
53:25 saying something time in the next 18 to 24 months is about
53:29 like even if they have to 9,800 it yeah
53:33 even if they oh oh I just made some people sad what
53:37 if they GTS 250 it oh
53:42 oh not good not good sad days all right
53:46 so what else we got here today uh Intel is apparently going after our Duos and
53:51 raspberry pies in the most um unorthodox
53:55 possible way so this guy right here is called sharks Cove it features a quad
54:00 core processor that runs at I think it was like 1.3 GHz or something ridiculous
54:04 like that yeah it's an atom chip it's got a gig of RAM 16 gigs of storage with
54:08 a Micro SD slot you can output via a fullsize HDMI port or an MPI connector
54:14 and it's got a usb2 port the only issue here is that it clocks in at a whopping
54:19 $300 but it comes with a full Windows 8.1 license yes it does so if you wanted
54:25 to Dev for Windows
54:29 8.1 on a very small
54:33 device I don't actually think this is directly trying to attack Arduino or
54:37 Raspberry Pi it can't be the price point isn't right at all I mean Intel's not
54:41 stupid they would know that if they need something that's supposed to compete
54:45 with that it would have to be 20 bucks or 30 bucks or whatever else and like
54:49 from talking with them at CES a big thing that they kept on saying over and
54:54 over again when I was looking at their little chipset then or not uh their
54:57 little boards then was that they're very Dev focused and in this one they're
55:01 talking again it's supposed to be helping developers build apps for different sized systems and different
55:06 solutions so I wouldn't be surprised if that's entirely their focus again
55:10 speaking of entirely being focused on wait a minute hold on did I miss the op
55:14 there nope I didn't speaking of being entirely focused uPorn really has been
55:20 they were serious about it they have focused on sponsoring a pro mooba team
55:28 so apparently it is happening and um
55:32 there you go this was originally posted on the Forum by power consumption junkie
55:36 I love that Avatar gtx480 love it I
55:40 never noticed that actually I've seen him around but I never really correlated the two so apparently many people who
55:45 responded to the original tweet where they were like hey any pro League of
55:49 Legends or Dota 2 players yeah we want to sponsor you um apparently most people
55:53 came to the same conclusion that we did and that's that if they were to sponsor
55:56 team they would likely have to fund them under a different name because you're
56:00 not going to have on like you know the main feed for the international that's
56:06 like like let's say this team makes the finals and they're being broadcast on
56:10 ESPN just done the they could have called them YP and used their little
56:15 logo thing the pink Y and black even then I think that's it's a pink Y and a
56:20 black PE never thought of that um so anyway the point is that they wouldn't
56:25 be able to have you corn logos all over the backs of the shirts of the players
56:29 or whatever else so hopefully we see
56:33 some kind of uh some kind of you know tastefulness and the way that they do
56:37 the sponsorship and I think it's you have giant Pink wise on the front okay
56:41 enough of this um
56:47 just you know on the on the other side you know
56:52 what we try to maintain a certain level of professionalism on on this show my
56:57 mom might be
57:02 watching I'm sorry Mom okay continue
57:05 apparently the contract is drafted so there's that this is also cool original
57:11 poster on the line of techtips forum was drick W LG is showing off speaking of
57:16 size mattering their 105 in 5K TV yes 4K is not enough for LG
57:27 they want a 21 by9 5K TV so it runs at a
57:31 whopping 5120 by 2160 we're not even
57:34 talking the usual hey it's a new TV standard there's no content for it we're
57:40 talking a whole new level of I don't even know of a camera that shoots this
57:46 you'd have to shoot at like Red's 6K or something and then crop it and
57:56 what what are you doing with that said I do think that moving to 21 by9
58:01 especially for very large format TVs makes a ton of sense I just don't think
58:06 that um chopping off the top of content or having black bars if I'm going to
58:11 spend $120,000 on a TV is going to make S oh
58:14 sorry I shouldn't say $120,000 because Samsung's competing model is $120,000
58:20 LGS comes in at a mere
58:24 $177,000 well hey if if you were spending hundred plus, on
58:30 a TV I probably wouldn't care about that little extra or the other way of looking
58:34 at it is maybe you spent all of your money and you don't have another 3,000
58:37 to spare don't do that on a TV man I would so buy a Tesla Model S instead but
58:42 that's a poor people way of thinking what you would buy instead but then you
58:47 just said you spent all your money so you oh no I'm I'm past that yeah that
58:51 was just a stupid thing I said to get a rise out of you um so that's not stupid
58:55 I would way rather buy mod no no I know no no but the point there is that when
59:00 when people like us real people discuss
59:03 like really expensive stuff and we're like that's stupid it's stupid to buy
59:08 that because here are all the things I would buy Instead This stuff's not for
59:12 us this is for people who already have all that stuff so we're thinking about
59:17 it wrong we're clearly the ones doing it wrong that's all I have to say about
59:21 that but yes I buy instead hold on
59:24 you're you're pointing they can't well you can't point at that screen
59:28 either I can use the mouse I'll use no wrong Mouse wrong mouse that Mouse here
59:32 just put your hand
59:36 there okay this big bar which is I'm
59:39 assuming must be some form of speaker yeah why because idiots you're spending
59:46 $120,000 on your TV why why is that
59:50 there what the hell what are you
59:54 doing is this part of at the bottom here I think it's a cutout I think it's a
59:59 cutout it's like what are you doing wow
60:03 yeah that's the wall yeah that's bad
60:06 super dumb maybe it's not not super fun speaker I don't even well it must be
60:11 because the speaker sure isn't here so like why do you even have speakers in it
60:16 if you're spending 120 Grand on a TV please say you have some sort of sound
60:22 system yeah you should not be using
60:25 those people remember the kind of house you might
60:28 have if you have $120,000 for a TV is
60:31 probably very like minimalistic and beautiful you don't want to go
60:35 cluttering that [ __ ] up with like wires
60:38 so you should probably probably use the speakers in your TV I mean it's
60:41 a it's $120,000 TV so probably the
60:45 speakers are badass you could have the wires going through the
60:48 wall can't even fully complete the sentence Oh my God you can get that
60:54 crazy controller thing that I saw on what was it mono price you have Wall
60:58 switches for all your speakers no because that would probably ruin your
61:01 wall your Wall's probably very beautiful so it would have to be like touch
61:06 detecting lasers in the roof so that you can tap on the wall and there's no
61:10 screen there yeah but like the wall would have to be glass so that you
61:14 wouldn't like get your oil on it and like Ru it yeah my rich people house
61:19 would be awesome I actually planned out what my rich people house would be so if
61:24 I just had like millions of dollars and had no idea what to do with it I would
61:28 build a house that's completely below ground because I don't know about other
61:33 places but here in Vancouver the average lot size has significantly decreased
61:38 over the last 25 years so my idea was
61:42 that the entire house would actually use Like An Egyptian mirror system style
61:48 thing to pull light in from a certain
61:52 sort of number of places but then the actual entire top of the property could
61:56 be like a a grass field thing so people
62:00 would be driving by and it would be like empty lot except there would actually be
62:04 a house there so you would access it by opening up like a like a storm cell
62:08 style thing well you have a million dollar house yeah a million dollar house
62:11 so like you you'd like well okay million dollar house Vancouver not that
62:15 expensive you have a multi you have millions of dollars yeah so so you'd be
62:18 like beep beep boop on your on your like Smartwatch and then like uh an elevator
62:23 would come out of the ground here is your personal
62:27 system then you get in so the point of this house would be that I spent all
62:30 this money on the house I'm going to save that money in cooling expenses I
62:35 wouldn't need air conditioning because I'd be so far down below the ground you
62:41 still on about the air conditioning oh my
62:47 God to avoid getting air conditioning he
62:51 would a build a multi-million dollar house underground so he wouldn't have to
62:55 get air conditioning or B water cool every single computer in the office in
62:59 one Loop so he can pull air out of the pull that heat out of the room but still
63:04 not buy air conditioning and I could still I could still enjoy like the all
63:10 that money I'm spending by further investing in things like the best home
63:14 theater system ever cuz you could Crank that up as loud as you want and if you
63:19 were three stories down that would be amazing cuz you could have it be
63:23 completely dark if you put subwoofers like in the walls you could make
63:27 everyone think that you're there's manyi earthquakes whenever you watch action
63:31 movies that would be amazing it would be so epic great I saw someone on Twitch
63:35 chat saying if lonus had a million dollars he would buy streets by 50 Star
63:38 Wars headphones to review them yeah I already did that I shot that review
63:43 today that review is going to be when is it going up not for a while cuz we have
63:47 to film the music video on Tuesday and then it has to be edited which is going
63:51 to I'm assuming take like at least a full day for someone so so yeah that
63:57 review that review is a thing it's going to be amazing or terrible I'm pretty
64:02 stoked for that or terribly amazing or
64:05 all right so we've actually don't have a ton of topics this week it's kind of the
64:10 summer and uh rather than end the show early we decided we wanted to do kind of
64:15 an interactive thing with you guys and talk
64:18 about what you think in terms of of raw
64:22 going for raw FPS versus where is this
64:26 where did it go what is this was it removed I don't
64:32 know I can't find it right now the the discussion
64:37 topic oh oh I see it okay well okay no
64:40 first let's do I just okay this isn't something that's a news item I just
64:44 thought this was a really great post by um uh exia exia xya um so basically AMD
64:52 released their free sync FAQ so free
64:56 sync is the gsync competitor sort of
64:59 from AMD where instead of them
65:02 developing like a chip that goes in the monitor that allows the display to only
65:07 refresh when the video card sends it a signal telling it to refresh instead
65:11 this is part of the upcoming Vasa standard for DisplayPort 1.3 so AMD's
65:17 naming of it as as free sync because it's going to be part of a Vasa standard
65:22 is uh yeah you know kind of a shot at shot at NVIDIA as well as just a way of
65:28 sort of making it clear that this is something that's part of an existing
65:31 standard sort of um so basically theyve released right so they released an FAQ
65:36 about it and the main points here are that DisplayPort active sync which is
65:41 what it'll actually end up being called not project freesync enables the
65:45 real-time adjustment of the monitor refresh rate so that's good they're
65:49 saying it's project freesync is a unique AMD Hardware software solution that
65:55 utiliz is DisplayPort active sync protocols to enable user facing benefits
66:00 so that's smooth tearing free and low latency gameplay NVIDIA so what's
66:03 interesting about that is there's actually no guarantee that freesync is
66:08 going to be supported across all graphics cards Intel hasn't commented on
66:12 it at all and NVIDIA certainly hasn't
66:15 commented on it so we may actually be looking at a completely new set of
66:22 NVIDIA certified AMD certified rather than a completely open standard that's
66:26 supposed to come you know crashing onto the market and make it so that everyone
66:31 can enjoy what is truly an amazing technology which I find a little bit
66:34 disappointing but I'm not ready to condemn it yet because if it does turns
66:40 out to be absolutely freaking fantastic then that's great but the problem is
66:45 that it requires specific Hardware so
66:48 you could actually see DisplayPort monitors that do not support free sync
66:54 and they could still be dis Port 1.3 so that's another thing that is something
66:58 for people who are waiting that are who are holding out for free sync that's
67:02 something that they might want to consider aside from how long they will
67:05 likely be waiting this was actually a post pulled from ASUS someone from ASUS
67:10 posted this let me just find it here we go so blah blah blah blah blah yeah so
67:17 someone posted on I think it must have been on their Forum you know any monitor that can get to the gsync upgrade
67:21 already has vblank enabled which means it's free sync compatible right and
67:24 basically Marshall R shut this down and said no it's not the same it needs to be
67:28 enabled in firmware drivers ic's Etc and
67:32 it's not ASUS official it's just a little bit of background information on
67:36 how product development Works having an industry standard is only a first step
67:41 it doesn't make it happen Vasa is on board so it's probably going to be fine
67:45 but it likely won't be fast and another
67:48 great point that gets brought up here is that it doesn't take into account that the LCD and display guys are already
67:54 really focused on other crap right now now 4K 21 by9 touchscreen curve displays
67:59 these are all things that they're focused on that are not just catering to
68:03 Gamers and are important for everyone
68:06 not just Gamers so adaptive refresh needs an Asic display IC physical
68:11 redesign it's not just a firmware update that means silicon tape out
68:15 manufacturing testing firmware everything typically that's 12 months
68:19 from now to get it in their hands and then another 6 months or more of product
68:25 Dev to actually make a retail display and that's if all the display IC
68:30 manufacturers decide to update for 1.2a instead of just waiting for 1.3 so sorry
68:35 1.2a I believe is the one that was going to include it I'm a little bit Rusty I
68:39 haven't looked at it recently anyway the point is that in the short term until
68:43 further notice ASUS is committed to g-sync and the
68:47 pg278q because it's the only technology that's actually on the market in the
68:50 midterm they're going to be standards agnostic I mean ASUS is notorious for
68:56 just doing everything yeah yeah yeah like you look at you XFX going from
69:00 being GeForce exclusive to Radeon exclusive or like EVGA being GeForce
69:06 exclusive or whatever ASUS has always
69:09 just given the old yeah you want us to only make Intel
69:13 boards you want us to only make AMD boards you want us to make what we're
69:16 going to make whatever we want so and sometimes that turns into products that
69:20 make no sense but a lot of the time it
69:24 uh wow we should get the most lest tective
69:29 sponsor no we shouldn't should I ask this poll topic no oh yeah sure I was
69:34 like why not I thought it was I thought it was should we get uPorn as a sponsor
69:39 no we shouldn't oh man all right so anyway I thought that was just an
69:43 interesting read through just because not a lot of details have been given by
69:47 AMD up till now I think it's great that they're demystifying this for everyone
69:51 but unless you've been paying close attention um they've released
69:54 information very very slowly starting with that exclusive CES thing from Anand
69:59 where they showed it they showed a tech demo working on a laptop all the way up
70:02 to now today where we see that the standard has been accepted by Vasa and
70:06 then we're going to continue to move forward from there but the point is just we're a long way away um so this was
70:12 where I actually wanted to get you guys Twitter blitzing and this was an
70:15 interesting topic I'm not sure that I agree with it I just thought it was
70:19 interesting I'm going to post this in the twitch chat I want you guys to check it out there we go is am D falling
70:26 behind NVIDIA because you could look at a lot of the stuff that AMD is doing
70:30 right now and make Arguments for the other way I thought the R9
70:35 295x2 was a really great product and it was a real nod to the people that it's
70:41 actually supposedly targeted for like I am tired of companies coming out and
70:45 saying we've got an Enthusiast grade product and then not actually giving
70:51 enthusiasts the features that they want and that they deserve like a water
70:54 cooled card isn't too much to expect an
70:58 Enthusiast to deal with and I think that
71:01 treating enthusiasts like babies is not the right approach either so I mean was
71:06 the product perfect no it was you know kicks out a lot of heat and of course
71:10 you have to have a case that has an open 120 mm mount for the radiator and all
71:14 that stuff but that's okay that's what made an Enthusiast ready but I thought
71:18 that this post was uh I thought that
71:21 this post was pretty interesting and I want to hear from you guys we're going
71:24 to start with a straw poll but I also want you to Twitter Blitz us as well um
71:29 and here let me get let me get that straw poll up did you post can you post that in the chat just for me to click on
71:34 yeah thank you it seems like the quickest way to share a link oh for
71:38 crying out loud I clicked if you scroll up it'll pause the I can get it though
71:42 okay we got it so let's put the uh the free sync versus gsync thing on here but
71:45 I want to get more from you guys actually I want to know do you do you
71:51 value what NVIDIA is doing in terms of things like game stream in terms of
71:56 things like Shadow play Al AMD does have
71:59 a better competitor for shadow play um as well as what they're doing in terms
72:04 of things like g-sync where they're basically saying okay look the standard
72:07 needs to exist maybe in the long term g-sync doesn't end up being that
72:13 important but if we could bring it to Market two years earlier than the
72:16 competitor would that be worth it and just kind of going for it or do you
72:21 prefer to see them just focus on making
72:24 graphic cards so I would like to uh I'd like to hear
72:27 from you guys about that so here's the gsync versus freesync thing so we've got
72:31 57% of you saying gsync and I'd actually
72:35 feel free to Twitter Blitz about this as well I'd like to hear why gsync or why
72:39 freesync I mean reasons that I can think of off the top of my head are gsync is
72:43 here right now um reasons I can think of against gsync are NVIDIA has to my
72:49 knowledge no intention of opening it up to anyone else whether it's Intel or AMD
72:54 um although I think Intel would be more likely um as like a licensing deal but
72:59 uh what do you think in terms of like what are the actual Market percentages
73:03 for NVIDIA versus AMD right now on graphics cards um like what's steam
73:07 steam's things let's let's pull it up let's pull up the hardware survey survey
73:11 but last time last time I was in retail I know that in terms of sales numbers it
73:16 was about 6040 to 7030 depending on the day of the week for NVIDIA okay yeah
73:21 that's what I kind of found fairly interesting is this isn't quite 64
73:26 so are we just getting whatever graphics card people have in their
73:29 systems well I'm wonder I'm well okay
73:32 the one way you can look at it is in a lot of cases whatever graphics card
73:35 people have in their systems are what they're going to be voting for in this type of a poll yeah yeah yeah no that
73:40 makes sense it's not necessarily even a fanboying thing it's just whatever
73:43 they're standing behind in any form all right so here's the latest what I'm
73:47 trying to say is that freesync is getting more credit than I actually expected it to right in this poll so the
73:53 latest Steam Hardware survey which I think is a great way of pulling Gamers
73:57 particularly like ignoring the casuals
74:00 um is 50% NVIDIA 30% AMD and about 20%
74:05 Intel so if you tried to pull this directly
74:09 across uh gsync should have gotten a lot more votes yes so it seems like
74:13 generally more people are getting actually behind free sync it's an
74:16 interesting takeway from the poll just as an open standard yeah yeah sort of
74:21 sort of I mean it's something open if NVIDIA chooses not to support it because
74:27 but they choose not to do they choose I
74:30 wonder because is is it choosing if you have to specifically enable it on a
74:35 hardware level on the graphics card or is that just not having I don't know
74:39 we'll we'll have to see how this shakes down it's going to be 2 years before we
74:42 have a clear idea of how these two compete in the market yeah that's
74:46 interesting I mean locking into locking into my next graphics card upgrade I
74:51 have to confess makes me pretty uncomfortable me too it's a big deal you
74:54 know like buying a monitor for $800 right and then knowing cuz a monitor is
74:59 something I expect to keep for five or six years whenever I make that
75:03 investment so you're buying that really expensive really nice monitor on the
75:08 notion that you have to buy the right graphics card for the most while I have
75:11 to hope that they don't screw up that they don't screw up and have you know
75:15 another GTX you know 480 generation
75:18 where it's just not that competitive and it runs really hot or not even 480 I
75:24 don't think 480 was even the problem let me just try to think right back when AMD
75:28 had already refreshed and NVIDIA still only had 285s to compete right there was
75:33 like there was a big gap there where NVIDIA just had nothing to compete with
75:37 is that why they skipped 300 series I'm not sure I actually don't know the uh I
75:41 don't know the story behind that I still don't get that it drives me crazy every
75:46 single time I try to explain like graphics cards to people they'll be like you missed one I'm like no no no I
75:52 didn't no I don't understand either but no I didn't
75:55 all right let's go ahead and have a have a look at some of these tweets all right
75:59 if Twitter ever loads yeah that a lot of tweets man Twitter yay Alexander hul
76:06 says I hate the NVIDIA only thing although I understand it the argument
76:10 that they want to improve the experience they argue that they want to improve the
76:13 experience of all Gamers but do the
76:16 opposite they also want all Gamers to be
76:19 using NVIDIA products and whether I buy it or not part of their whole Spiel when
76:24 they origin unveiled gsync was that they were legitimately trying to improve the
76:28 experience of all Gamers by pushing this technology onto the market and kind
76:32 worked and it kind of worked AMD announced free sync three months later
76:36 vesa ratified it a few months after that like For Better or For Worse the ball
76:41 wasn't rolling to our knowledge until NVIDIA rolled the ball
76:48 so whoa just melee already says posted
76:52 today krych UK shuts down deep silver takes over hom front the revolution oh
76:56 look at that sorry to hijack someone just tweeted this to me wow this must
77:01 have been so I guess they're downsizing if nothing else yeah PC Authority cry
77:07 Tech UK shuts down interesting so guys uh here's the here's
77:14 the news for that I'm surprised I didn't spot this earlier because it's was 20
77:17 hours ago 20 hours no it has zero comments though that's what I mean yeah
77:21 that's weird it say it was 20 hours ago maybe it was written 20 hours ago
77:25 look whoa weird yeah maybe they wrote it
77:28 but they were waiting to uh waiting to publish maybe so there you go crytech
77:32 Shuffle staff as home front once again causes developer casualties in recent
77:37 weeks unpaid wages Etc has announced it
77:41 has acquired casualties on the home front
77:45 wow Deep Silver has already agreed to co-publish the game but now owns the IP
77:50 and will keep all the work that krych already performed wow
77:55 okay on to Twitter blitzing all
78:00 right um Cole says yeah I feel like AMD
78:03 is falling behind too much I feel like NVIDIA may have the edge except Titan Z
78:07 was a big failure Titan Z is a weird product to me it it really felt like um
78:13 like just kind of because we can like I
78:16 I don't really expected to do so yeah I know I I just I think because you wanted
78:23 us to I mean the thing is is if you actually look at the pricing scheme for
78:27 it 150% 150% it's about the same as R9
78:31 295x2 it's just that r9290 XS are
78:34 cheaper than Titans but then you could make the argument that
78:37 gtx780 is just as good as a Titan from a
78:40 gaming standpoint so it's just not priced for gamers and I and I I get that
78:45 I just I wish NVIDIA's messaging was a little bit more clear sometimes like it
78:49 was the same with Shield tablet where the first thing they said to us when we got in the room was this is a tablet
78:54 first we wanted it to be a really great
78:57 tablet for gamers and then all the demos were gaming demos except for the stylist
79:02 demo yeah and so I was like you you guys are you guys have your heads so far into
79:08 the gaming scene which is good I mean I get that it's just that sometimes
79:12 especially in your in your marketing communication you forget that a product
79:17 was designed for more than just Gamers like the tablet and it's really
79:20 interesting that review has like 2,000
79:23 comments on it of people discussing Shield tablet and people anywhere from I
79:28 think it's stupid Shield Portable 2 should have been released with Tegra K1
79:33 all the way to people being like yeah I actually don't really give any cares about gam stream but this looks like a
79:37 great tablet I plan to buy one K1 is fast yeah and I'm a go for it which is
79:43 uh which was really interesting to me it's a very wide ranging Market it's not
79:47 like a GPU where a lot of people like a very large amount of people are just
79:51 like yeah it needs to go quickly like it's actually there's a
79:55 huge amount of use cases for it Eric apparently feels like AMD is falling
79:58 behind with NVIDIA having the backing to create this new stuff uh bomb mask I
80:03 think AMD has dropped the ball on driver support you know what's funny is over
80:07 the last couple of years so since lus Media Group formed I just am I'm tired
80:13 of NVIDIA has crap drivers AMD has crap
80:17 drivers you know what they both have problems I can get just as mad about AMD
80:22 not supporting custom resolutions as I can about what's the stupid thing on
80:25 NVIDIA's side they support custom resolutions but when we were trying to
80:29 get that thing working yeah yeah I'm trying to remember they didn't
80:33 support shoot I don't remember anymore it's in our video about super um super
80:39 sample anti-ia sing where basically we couldn't get something working because
80:44 NVIDIA didn't support one basic feature and AMD didn't support some other basic
80:47 feature they both have issues and we've seen them both swing back and forth in
80:52 terms of stability within games stability and SLI and Crossfire and for
80:57 some reason on my personal rig using uh
81:00 GeForce experience I can't download drivers right it'll download like most
81:04 of the way and then just be like no connection to whatever server thing I'm
81:08 just like K thanks and then there was that issue that I had on the mini PCS
81:12 when I was trying to Benchmark where installing installing the proprietary
81:16 vendor specific driver off of the manufacturer of the Box's website would
81:21 install GeForce experience which would then download a new generic driver that
81:25 just wouldn't work on the machine like there's just neither of them is perfect
81:30 let's not pretend that they are that's all I have to say um I prefer g-sync
81:34 because it's available and it's proven to work I prefer free sync because I
81:38 much prefer open to closed how will you deal with freezing temps in Canada in
81:42 your whole room one Loop project great question we're in Vancouver so it
81:46 typically doesn't fall below around minus5 here
81:50 gsync but it's just unfair to not let AMD use it especially because the prices
81:56 it's not unfair um totally not unfair
81:59 you develop a technology you leverage that technology you don't give it to
82:03 your competitor I mean if we created a completely new way of making videos are
82:09 we going to just like bring every other YouTuber in and give them a tutorial
82:13 actually though well the YouTube SCS a little different I think we share a lot
82:16 we actually probably would we probably would but yeah xaver says smooth gaming
82:22 now gsync is great I'm getting an Swift
82:25 want it now I would go freesync because it's the same thing except a less
82:29 expensive option that is a theory we have no idea how much a free sync
82:33 monitor is going to cost by that time who knows g-sync may be extremely
82:38 inexpensive because of how mature it is because of how long it's been in
82:42 production whereas whenever a new product or a new technology dropsens I
82:47 mean look at 4K yeah how expensive is it
82:50 for the first year what fraction of that price can you expect to pay for it the
82:54 next next year so while free sync is still you know hot and new and exciting
82:59 and there's that pent up demand from AMD users who have wanted some kind of a
83:03 solution but don't want to go NVIDIA I think it's going to be expensive at the
83:06 beginning do think is here now and AMD hasn't been specific on performance even
83:11 beta benchmarks you can't Benchmark this that's not really the way it works um
83:14 basically it just it just does what it does it's not a benchmark thing when the
83:20 graphics card is finished rendering a frame it outputs it to the monitor which
83:24 refreshes only when there's a new frame that's the way it
83:27 works uh Tim says Open Standards over
83:30 exclusive J says we need new technology free sync is good because it's here
83:34 right now um okay gsync is already here
83:38 and almost available free Sync has quality loss that's actually something I
83:42 wasn't aware of with freesync so I would have to look into that a little bit more yeah do you think is better because I
83:47 use it right now and it's amazing all right fair enough
83:50 Quantum it really is kind of amazing I have no extensive use with it uh I
83:55 should I should I should lend you the Swift I wonder why well the other
83:58 monitor got taken apart by the ncx tech tips team and they haven't put it back
84:01 together for me yet I told them I'm not putting it back together so they need to
84:05 put it back together for me and they just keep dragging ass on it all right
84:09 Ruck do says I'd rather see a video card company focus on video cards I can do
84:13 video recoding and streaming with other things better interesting point but what
84:18 you uh actually you know if we give valve a little bit more time to build
84:22 you know an Android version of steam we could could see in home streaming show
84:25 up on uh on Android without NVIDIA game Stream So maybe Ruck do has a point if
84:30 we're willing to wait a little bit longer maybe we don't need any of that stuff I already have a g-sync monitor so
84:35 I couldn't really vote any other way um amintha says no I don't think AMD
84:40 is falling behind NVIDIA and AMD are focusing on different things and that
84:44 will both be important to improve the industry I mean something that we didn't mention at all is mantle um mantle is
84:50 coming for a lot of games more than I would have expected
84:55 back when they first announced it um let me just see if I can find the list of
84:59 upcoming games I find when most people guess the guest is far too low which is
85:03 a good thing actually because then they'll be coming out with more so
85:06 hopefully there's actually something you're interested in yeah here we go so
85:10 here this is from videoc cards.com so we've got games that are here now so
85:14 that's uh Battlefield 4 Thief Sniper Elite 3 not quite not yet available with
85:19 mantle as well as Plants Vs zombies Garden Warfare we've got games that are
85:22 unreleased but have confirmed mantle support Star Citizen civilization
85:27 Mirror's Edge Battlefield Hardline Sims 4 like big deal game if you don't like
85:32 the Sims The Sims is huge yeah just just
85:35 it's important deal with it it's all we have to say and then there's unreleased
85:39 with mental support pending and there's a bunch of other really interesting
85:42 stuff in there Sleeping Dogs Grand Theft Auto 5 like all this crazy stuff I guess
85:47 for me the thing that I need to see is I need to see how mantle actually ends up
85:52 stacking up against Direct X DirectX 12
85:56 yeah so and I mean people thinking that
86:00 mantle spurred on Microsoft to bring
86:03 direct X12 to Market guys that's not what happened direct X12 has been in the
86:07 works for quite some time already it's not it's it's not like Microsoft sudden
86:12 this is what we kind of thought at the time because we just knee-jerk reaction
86:16 it it's not like Microsoft hadn't been listening at all it made sense with the
86:20 evidence that we had at the time yes in the in the in with the release schedule
86:24 information that we had at the time it kind of made sense but no they've been working on directx12 for a long time it
86:28 is a lower level API and it is going to bring some real improvements um so it
86:34 remains to be seen which is going to be more important moving forward and who
86:37 knows openg is in the mix as well
86:40 but at least they're kind of like the g-sync thing at least AMD is pushing and
86:45 going okay well if we can have mantle support a year earlier than waiting for
86:50 the rest of the industry to catch up then hey we can do that we can deliver
86:53 better performance to our users and especially with buying more expensive
86:56 potentially somewhat proprietary monitors I see this as much more
87:01 impactful than G freey anyways which gser freesync seems to be the big versus
87:07 conversation but those games coming out with mantle on them I think might
87:10 actually be a big deal if it turns out to actually be a big deal for Lima says
87:15 AMD May release something big soon I don't know maybe um I was supposed to
87:19 have a call with them this week and that didn't happen so I don't know anything
87:23 uh Delon says I want them to wait and release something substantial instead of
87:26 these gimmicks I don't like apple but take notes from them interesting wait
87:32 and release something substantial so is what you're saying that you would like
87:35 to see them wait for a new graphics card to
87:39 release a new technology alongside entirely sure yeah I don't know cuz I
87:43 mean I like seeing stuff like you know directx12 compatibility announced like
87:48 you know retroactively for previous graphics cards or you know stuff like
87:52 game stream or or some of the new stuff that they did with Shield tablet that's
87:56 now coming to Shield portable I mean all that kind of stuff I I love to see the
88:00 technology just continue to roll never mind new products yeah
88:06 um free Sync has been patient since 2008
88:10 so NVIDIA is behind and used AMD stuff not really how it works Tech news um the
88:17 one with the product on the Shelf in the store is first yeah like anyone who's
88:24 Watch Pirates of Silicone Valley we shipped first it doesn't
88:28 matter so this is interesting in a lot of countries NVIDIA and AMD are not that
88:34 price competitive but usually it's the other way around where NVIDIA asks for a
88:37 bit more of a premium for their products so I'm not sure where you're from The
88:40 Lion gamer NVIDIA definitely has an edge with new steeld tablet but fell a bit
88:44 behind with Titan Z okay fair enough AMD
88:48 will fall behind because of the GTX 880 and 880 we don't know anything about
88:51 these cards yet if these are what we think they might be marginally better
88:55 performing Parts with better power consumption they're not exactly going to
88:59 turn the market on its head a lot of Gamers don't even look at power
89:05 consumption or noise when they shop for a graphics card they look at an FPS
89:09 chart and in that respect AMD performs
89:12 very well from a price to Performance ratio standpoint Raptor adds some
89:18 features NVIDIA has but AMD UHD but it
89:22 is too bloat weish yeah Raptor I know I know the game okay they they said they
89:27 have a new update it's either coming or it just came that's supposed to be way
89:30 better they asked us to check it out so maybe we'll have a look at it at some point yeah uh just I'll have a look at
89:35 it on a drive that I fully intend to just like multi like what is it called
89:40 botin nuke so oh maybe we can have a look at AI sweet lower at it oh god um
89:45 patalo Jones I just want all video cards to come with back plates installed yes
89:50 please oh my goodness you man yeah dog
89:54 yeah all right well all I agree um I think that is almost it we have one more
90:00 thing to do before the show ends unless you had something else you wanted to
90:03 mention do we have any other rapid fire topics oh yeah we have two more things
90:06 two more things so first up okay there's
90:11 this guy right there's this guy he has this like YouTube channel or something
90:16 we need everyone to be attentive here for a sec yeah we need everyone's full
90:19 attention let me just bring up let me just bring up his email here because uh
90:24 this this guy this guy said a thing I think he didn't believe in the power of
90:30 the W show audience so yeah I'm I'm I'm
90:34 pumping you guys up here
90:37 Logan from Tech Syndicate is giving away his car so this is this is already crazy
90:43 and then he got even crazier he's hand delivering both his car his personal
90:49 vehicle and a gaming PC to the winner
90:53 and anywhere in the contiguous United States I think Canada was actually also
90:59 included but then the craziest thing he said was hey lonus do you mind
91:04 mentioning it on the W show and I kind of went oh yeah no problem dog but you
91:09 know um should I should I kind of get everyone to Zerg rush it all at once or
91:15 should I try to like spread it out a little bit so they don't all go at once
91:18 and he kind of went wo audience come on
91:21 they're not going to all hit our site at once sign up for this contest and uh and
91:26 you cause any problems with our server so we are going to stress test the tech
91:31 Syndicate server because I want all of you guys to go sign up to win a car and
91:36 a gaming PC of course if you qualify for the contest so please crash their
91:40 website is basically what we're asking I'm saying please go to their website
91:44 I'm saying please crash their website but do it by registering and signing up
91:48 for the yep wrecked is it down
91:57 yeah I kind of knew that would happen oh good work everyone okay guys
92:03 seriously though the contest going the contest isn't uh the contest isn't over
92:08 now so wait a couple hours go back make
92:11 sure you sign up this is a really cool giveway keep trying until you get
92:15 through don't wait a couple hours and uh what's really neat about it is not only
92:19 will Logan be hand delivering your system but Josh from fractal is going to
92:23 be coming for the road trip they're going to be making a video about the whole process
92:28 of driving the car and the gaming PC out to you I think it's a really cool
92:32 giveaway if able to get to if you're not able to get to the page right now this
92:36 is what it looks like uh win Logan's car and a game they can through anyways
92:41 because they can sign up on Facebook right yeah they can sign up on Facebook
92:44 they can sign up of the entries through Facebook so uh here let me just
92:49 see go 18 ways to enter so complete the
92:54 entries to unlock 12 more ways to enter so guys definitely check it out I think
92:57 this is really cool and of course you know we've worked with Logan not that
93:01 long ago and we had that whole successful Highlander thing so we
93:04 definitely want to make sure that we're throwing some love is way here and you can win a car you can win a car this is
93:08 the coolest package for someone who's like just at their license level yeah or
93:13 like a student that's what I mean though because a lot of students are like
93:16 working summer jobs so they can get PCS and don't have a car so if you get a car
93:21 and a PC all in one drop it's just like oh
93:24 actually have like spending money well I don't know if uh I don't know if it's
93:28 the most sensible Prize Package because as soon as you get that new gaming PC
93:32 you're not going to want to go
93:35 anywhere that's a good point actually that is a pretty good point and they
93:38 stayed in their dorm forever
93:42 forever when I had my mineral gaming PC and I was at um university living in
93:47 dorms I didn't even need a car I didn't
93:52 have it on the road I could have afforded to insured at that point in time but I was just like n i don't go I
93:57 just buy groceries like it's not that big of a deal all right our next crazy
94:00 announcement here guys is the winner of
94:03 the Rog G550 JK gaming notebook from
94:07 Highlander did not respond so we are redrawing it new
94:14 winter time see we even called this because they only had one Post Yeah so
94:18 like it's highly possible that they just won't come back here we go so let's uh
94:23 we'll redraw in real time here guys so here's the post 611 pages so first we're
94:28 going to do a random.org and I'm going to try not to do it wrong this time here
94:32 we go you did it wrong yeah cuz I had us hiding it in the corner oh I was like
94:38 I'm going to do this live so they can validate the results I'm looking here so
94:42 I didn't even notice I know Nick pointed it out to me and I was like oh oops so
94:48 first we're going to pick a page page eight wow one of the very early entrance
94:54 is going to win you can just change your yeah but then I have to type
94:59 page yeah I can never remember if it's like a dash or a slasher yeah yeah yeah
95:03 all right so here are the potential
95:07 winners settigs 333 Josh noodle Eli wood
95:13 dedicator Linux user speezy J shadow FR
95:20 Javan Deathwing 72 the Gunslinger with
95:24 an underscore monop polo 11 Master Wars
95:29 Olive with a three and hippo 2626 Mike
95:34 theore boss froggy 12 Cole yah hore and
95:39 P super one of these folks will be the
95:43 winner so let's go ahead and do another random.org this time from 1 to 20 and
95:49 actually on the screen
95:55 seven seven I don't remember who that was all right let's count down from
95:59 seven one two three four five six
96:07 Jess another one poost Wonder so it's
96:10 technically possible so it's technically possible te that we'll be drawing this
96:14 again in a week uh I'm just going to go ahead and why is the oh right cuz I'm
96:19 not uh not signed in just copy his name somewhere we also have footage of it
96:23 Nick to I'll get Nick to deal with it yeah there we
96:27 go winner boom so you'll be contacted
96:30 via the Forum and if you don't draw then it'll be bad for you and not for
96:34 everyone else we've got someone Leia is awesome in the chat saying I won OMG so
96:40 hopefully that's you the totally not similar at all username throws me to
96:44 assume that it might not be that person yeah probably not the same person all
96:50 right well unless we have anything else I think that's it for the w show thank
96:54 you guys so much for tuning in we can go through build logs of the month kind of
96:58 can we yeah kind of oh all right hit it
97:01 I I've have decided that as I am obviously very terrible at doing it whoa
97:07 whoa whoa whoa whoa sup you're not on okay cool yeah don't worry um yeah you
97:11 want to do that thing yes I do
97:15 yeah oh no okay give us this that guys don't worry dog it's all good why is my
97:20 phone ringing go away whoever you are your phone is ringing because do you
97:23 want to answer it yeah I want to answer it here go for
97:27 it do you realize he's at
97:30 work it's my
97:39 mom you can't figure out how to win the car oh oh I guess you would beig speaker
97:45 phone okay yeah here hold on I'll put you on speaker yeah there we go hello
97:54 wait there's an echo hold on hold on why is there an echo because I got a delay
97:58 on this end oh okay okay you muted us on that end now okay good all right caller
98:03 you're live on the W show what would you like to say I went to the tech Syndicate site to
98:08 try to have it
98:15 die we tried to I was trying to help make it
98:20 die but I'm on there but I don't see
98:23 where's the contest thing um okay it's the it's the link
98:30 down below so I think you have to log in
98:33 you want to like them on Facebook like fractal design on Facebook you have to
98:37 do a bunch of uh a bunch of Facebook stuff you want to check out the YouTube
98:41 link to the uh to the to the car giveaway so the actual YouTube link that
98:45 has the video embedded in it at the top of the page you want to check that out
98:49 and uh I haven't actually entered I don't think I would be eligible I don't
98:53 think I would either so I so I I hadn't actually tried I just assumed it was
98:56 pretty self-explanatory but apparently it's it's a little difficult but I don't
99:01 want to like them they're the other guys no they're good guys there's nothing
99:07 wrong with liking them besides you can unlike them after the
99:11 contest okay there that's a good idea
99:14 okay oh no all right thank you we'll
99:18 talk to you later bye Mom okay oh no all right are you ready
99:24 to do builds of the week sure um I think
99:27 their sight's back up I think they're all good now I think so yeah yeah all
99:31 right so they actually handled it surprisingly well recovery time very
99:35 good very good recovery time so I got to give Logan props their site actually I
99:41 I'll call that held up like I think if a site goes down or slows down for like a
99:45 minute when it's getting hit really hard it's not really that big of a deal that's not that big of a deal so I got
99:49 to give them props there all right oh
99:53 wait no I don't think it's up oh never mind maybe that's why she can't get to
99:57 it okay fewer props anyways moving on um
100:01 I guess we need to am I still why does
100:04 it do this
100:07 sometimes what you doing bro uh sometimes Chrome Will Will just decide
100:13 that you are logged in oh I know you can be like sign out and then you load like
100:16 a different page and it's like nope I know you're signed in and you don't even
100:20 have like other Chrome browsers open elsewhere it's just random all right to
100:25 screen we can screen share the screen so as you guys can see
100:29 we're looking at the results of the voting thread posted by someone that
100:32 wasn't me so that actually got posted and now uh there's there's a small group
100:37 of mods that will managing this so that it actually happens um SNF won because
100:43 the least surprising things ever happened this time uh because SNF I
100:47 think this this might be like his fourth time ending up in build loocks like geez
100:53 and like the winning percentage is pretty impressive yeah with a full 37
100:56 and a half percent of the votes yeah it's kind of amazing though as I'll
101:02 scroll down there to check it out so snaf gotot came in first and then second
101:05 place was enthalpy with
101:09 Noctua so I'm assuming there is a massive amount of Noctua fans on his so
101:13 this is sn's build we're just going to look at a single picture which just like
101:18 oh my goodness every single time I see his builds I wish I could personally
101:22 bring myself to take the time to plan out all these fittings yeah but just
101:28 like it's kind of amazing I there's no way I could do that lot of beautiful
101:31 machine kind of awesome really like the
101:34 two reses that looks really cool yep and
101:38 since you're the one actually screen sharing for a change they can actually
101:41 see the mouse yeah when I when I do this
101:44 yep oh man he just consistently has
101:47 really nice builds what a gorgeous machine I don't even really know what
101:51 else to say a lot of times I have like Fe feedback and it's just like no you're
101:55 Spectre Pro fans are pretty badass they actually perform reasonably well a lot
101:58 of people don't know that they actually have good static pressure and just
102:02 generally they're quite quiet they undervolt reasonably well they're quite
102:05 excellent fans and they look really nice they look really really nice I I'm not
102:09 sure if the build quality of them is quite up to what I would say is like
102:12 best think because there's two different yeah they're a two-piece fan and so they
102:16 kind of have a lot of flex to them like even when you're screwing them in you can see the whole frame Flex um but
102:21 that's really my only complaint about yeah I have some of them in terms of
102:25 like 140 mm fans in mind what do we got next NOA NOA by enpy find it that would
102:33 have won if I was picking them just because it's called Noctua project blank
102:38 has a lot of Noctua fans where is
102:42 it uhuh that's something we should maybe
102:45 is it actually project blank I don't think so oh that it must be this ah it's
102:50 cuz there's single screenshots I'm tripping myself out we're good I got it
102:54 so this is the single screenshot that was submitted for this build I do
102:57 believe unless this is also his yes it is this is why this is confusing there's
103:01 only supposed to be one what are you doing wher um anyways 23 nocas in a
103:07 custom Loop all 23 nocas are on external
103:11 radiators wow is that just like is that your your personal is that in your
103:16 multi-million dollar house no my multi-million house multi-million dollar
103:20 house would have um like a like um it
103:25 would have a fluid to fluid heat exchanger and then it would have one
103:29 Loop that goes underground so that it's actually just cooled by the Earth and
103:33 then it would have another loop that exchanges heat with that one so that's how I would get all the system heat out
103:37 of my house perfect that's how that would work obviously okay I should have
103:42 known I'm sorry duh yeah duh Oops du
103:46 that's pretty freaking cool yeah that's badass I like that he's actually like
103:49 showing off his rig very in the open I
103:53 also really can appreciate those quick disconnects cuz those are like my favorite thing ever now people like
103:58 shirt off for Riot I'm sweating so much that if I took my shirt off I would just
104:02 be so shiny the camera would like he was oiled yeah because I'm feeling the exact
104:08 same way maybe he is yeah oh man this
104:12 looks cool I wonder if I want to know if he would do it
104:18 differently who with the industrial fans
104:21 h because I think with going with this
104:25 theme I think he's fully embracing the Noctua of it considering he even called
104:30 it that y I don't know I don't think he would do it differently but I would like
104:34 to hear from him maybe if he PMS me or something anyways I think that's it for
