0:01 hey you guys can you guys tell me how the audio is is the audio working fine
0:05 everybody gotta make sure
0:10 yeah that seems like a good idea right about now were you even streaming
0:14 no no no that's just me
0:18 uh i don't know where it's working it shows zero viewers oh no it's working it
0:22 takes a while it's like the youtube viewer where no one's used oh here we go
0:26 yeah yeah it just takes a little bit so i don't know where i copied that too
0:29 let's go ahead and move this here hold on guys i'm just trying to find the
0:33 uh the right file for
0:36 okay guys we have yep there we go that's the one i copied the wrong one before so
0:41 let's go ahead and paste that there and we're back yay
0:46 and yes slick shaved he doesn't look like a homeless person anymore
0:51 it's amazing that was disgusting man
0:55 it's just terrible it it definitely decreased your sex
0:59 appeal by at least 18 notches
1:03 i mean did you notice that no one on the live streams was even saying you were
1:06 hot anymore
1:10 i mean that should be all you need to know
1:14 okay hold on let me just make sure the focus is right so that we're not totally out of focus tonight are the scenes
1:19 working that looks about right right everyone says that's good is that good
1:23 oh no i'm done i'm just kidding i'm just kidding i'm just kidding no more technical
1:27 difficulties tonight we're all done with that all done with that
1:31 yeah all done with that how's that how's that should be pretty good
1:34 that's all right we still look pretty washed out i think but you look devilishly handsome but there's nothing
1:38 i can do about the lighting right now it's done
1:41 and i'm like super the white okay fine there's something i will do about the
1:45 landing because it's me but if it's a problem with you then i think you'll just have to live with it
1:50 yeah there we go all right so
1:53 welcome to the live stream you guys i'm at linustech on twitter he's at
1:57 somethingslickpc on twitter so you guys uh do feel free to
2:02 someone's asking us to remove all the moderators from your twitch chat and
2:06 reassign mods based on a screening process i'm tired of 12 year old mods
2:10 you know what that's probably not a bad idea um what do you think first order of
2:14 business once we get the forum up and running is get sort of forum contributors as
2:19 twitch mods as well as uh as being four mods because honestly i haven't even
2:23 been paying that close attention to what they've been doing have you i no no i
2:28 have no i have no idea no idea whatsoever i do have something really
2:31 cool so just before before we actually before we actually get started with
2:35 anything this is something that i've been incredibly excited about if you
2:40 guys follow me on twitter then you'll ow
2:44 i'm breaking everything if you guys follow me on twitter then you'll already
2:47 know about this but check this out this is a Thunderbolt enclosure
2:51 see there's Thunderbolt interface at the back there you guys can't really see it it's not in focus it's okay don't worry
2:55 about it there's three pci express slots in there so this is the magma 3t which
3:01 is a pci express Thunderbolt expansion box that i was hoping i could use to run
3:08 external graphics on a notebook or on oh here hold on yeah it's okay i got it
3:13 that's just a displayport cable i've been i've been trying things and trying
3:17 other things seeing if i can get a graphics card going with it so it's been suggested to
3:22 me that perhaps the
3:25 sort of camera should be not pointed at the back of that monitor there we go just move over a bit um
3:30 that if i try certain video cards or other video cards uh quadro 4000 was the
3:35 one where i was eventually told that i should uh i should be able to get it
3:40 working drivers in os 10 and there should be no
3:44 issues but i tried it obviously i don't have os 10
3:47 so i what
3:51 echo oh yeah the small echo was my headphones that i was using to make sure that the
3:55 sound was actually working this time because i don't actually have
3:59 speakers on this computer that i used to stream
4:04 because if i had speakers playing back everything then
4:08 you'd get an echo it works yay so why did i not notice the audio issue because
4:12 i didn't notice the audio issue because i have no idea i guess the real question
4:16 is why don't i ever notice the audio issue what's your theory
4:21 well the like incredible amount of times that you've left a stream open is kind of bad a
4:25 stream a stream in the background your own stream oh my own stream yeah
4:30 but but like that one i'm there because i'm trying to open the
4:33 twitch chat and then while i'm going there to open the twitch chat the
4:37 stream's not on so it doesn't occur to me and again because i don't have
4:41 any audio speakers on it like i don't i don't really
4:44 maybe the trick is getting like some closed headphones and then using those
4:48 to something or something we could have just something set up at the beginning
4:53 of any stream yeah like we could oh we could document
4:56 processes check this out check this out i created a video publication guide
5:00 here you can read through and you can actually do all those things now slick's
5:04 just as bad as me just so you guys know most of our editing mistakes are
5:07 actually made by him not by me and see look at no this has good stuff in it so
5:12 we're not gonna read it now or on a live stream i'll read it later
5:16 see this is the this is the kind of attitude i have to deal with
5:20 people who are supposed to be like helping me bring you guys the best tech
5:23 content on the interwebs and he's all like yeah i'll read it later but you
5:27 can't just ignore the current goal which is producing a live
5:31 stream which we're not really doing right now i'm producing a live stream
5:36 at the start it wasn't a very good one mind you
5:40 um so yeah i mean honestly i'm sorry guys i'm sorry for all the audio issues
5:44 uh right now part of the problem is that i'm either using the shotgun mic on
5:50 the one on the xa10 or i'm using the lapel mic on the xa10
5:55 it actually bewilders me how many people tell me to use a lapel mic in videos
6:00 where i am clearly wearing a lapel mic
6:03 have you seen that before yeah like and like and it wasn't even subtle
6:07 like i'm wearing like not a black t-shirt and it's like clipped in the
6:11 middle of a t-shirt and people are like what is you should really invest in a good lap i have a 700 lapel mic
6:17 the problem is that it's wireless and particularly in the old tech tips room a
6:22 little bit in the new tech tips room and not pretty much at all in this room
6:26 um there's some random interference and i've tried changing channels um but
6:32 every once in a while like i i've started putting some bloopers into some
6:35 of the videos that i've been editing because slick apparently can't be asked
6:39 to edit videos these days um and you see some of the horrible like
6:46 like noises that we get and they'll just destroy shots
6:49 like we've had to stop shooting because of it
6:52 so many times yeah it's ridiculous so the ones that you guys hear are a not as
6:57 bad as what we're usually dealing with and b i've also gone in in the video
7:02 editing process and i've taken that like frame or two frames and dialed the
7:06 volume down to like one-tenth so that
7:10 they're a lot less obnoxious and like you're
7:13 like yeah piercing that's the word i was
7:17 looking for um so yes i'm sorry for the audio issues
7:22 we're gonna figure out how to resolve it at some point part of the problem is
7:25 edsel's figuring out all of his finals right now and we don't have um we don't
7:30 have any help whatsoever and uh yeah things are things are bad
7:35 things are just sort of generally bad so
7:39 greg what's our first discussion
7:43 uh let me topic sorry well Intel
7:47 yeah okay well do we want to start that one before the youtubers
7:51 sort of tune in let me just see if we uh let me see if the announcement video is
7:54 live because i'm sure a lot of them saw the original announcement video and they
7:58 were like um yeah i guess
8:05 are we talking about ac rotors or i guess
8:08 oh that's not a bad one yeah yeah you know what let's give them a
8:12 couple minutes because i think the first comment on that is a minute ago
8:16 and so obviously you know did you guys know that every person who posts first
8:19 on one of my videos i personally email them and i send them a video card
8:26 that's why people keep doing it i can't think of another reason
8:30 what about the time you commented first well i sent myself you sent yourself a
8:34 video i don't know you got your 590. yeah i find a video card once in a while
8:37 and because i'm me i can game the system i can be like when's the really baller
8:42 video card coming and then i'll just be like oh it's night first nice you don't
8:46 even have to like make a fake account you just comb it first on your own account yeah on your own video and get
8:51 this i save on the shipping too right because then it's free yeah these
8:54 people live all over the place i mean i can just like this is how i ship myself
8:58 a video card i'm just like hey Linus you want a video card i'm like yeah why yes
9:02 okay it's okay it's only a uh what is this i
9:06 don't even know it's a 650 power edition it's okay all is well
9:12 don't worry about it it would be even better if you went to
9:15 the post office and then shipped it to yourself so you could like get a present
9:18 for the door i do love receiving parcels that is one
9:22 of the most satisfying things it's actually so awesome
9:26 remember you're you're okay this looks younger than me but i mean do you remember
9:30 getting letters no well okay i get letters from like my
9:35 grandma but i don't remember getting like a i don't just get letters from
9:39 friends well like it wasn't often but like when when you're like 10 and like
9:43 even when i got like a bank statement or something yeah like just when your
9:46 parents are like going through the mail and they're like oh this is for you yeah
9:50 yeah it's exciting yeah it's way better than email i hate email now
9:54 they just get like 30 a day email should just die in a fire
9:58 speaking of email that should die in a fire okay
10:05 do you know anyone who uses their isp's
10:09 email account like do you know anyone who actually
10:13 like my aunt for example not super tech savvy it's her name at shaw.ca
10:20 and i'm just like now what are you gonna do
10:24 i know someone who's super tech savvy that uses it because i was thinking
10:28 about this today like i don't know if you guys know this but your google
10:31 account is tied permanently to your youtube account
10:35 unless you have a much older account and you get grandfathered in in fact i
10:39 changed the youtube or the google account associated with ncix tech tips
10:44 at one point and i changed the one associated with minus tech tips at one
10:47 point because i was trying to get it integrated with adsense and something
10:51 something something but now i think they're locked in and the Techquickie
10:55 channel that i recently acquired i had to acquire the gmail account as well
11:01 and uh so so that got me thinking because i was thinking about this and i
11:04 was like um i actually recently bought a domain and i've set up an email for
11:09 myself under that domain more about that later by the way fascinating email i
11:13 just got from google um yeah like awesome so so i set that up
11:17 and i was like what if i forget to pay for this domain like i'll be stuck and
11:20 i'm like horrible it's not as bad as those guys are using their internet
11:25 service for fire i mean what if you actually used aol for
11:29 dial up back in the day or like my family we used sprint
11:34 my family actually used the email address sea lion one at sprint dot ca
11:40 and i'm like i mean at the time i didn't know that that was such a terrible idea but
11:45 i mean what does it say about you
11:48 i've never used an isp z motorist not once even when i was a kid i mean is
11:53 there my family didn't do this uh i bet they did i bet you
11:58 i bet your parents shared it yes they did way back you know what here's our
12:02 discussion topic and i'd love to take this to twitter you guys email best
12:05 practices things that just irk you like why is it that old people don't
12:10 understand that you don't forward chain chain letters well there's that uh oh
12:15 what is his name he makes comics
12:18 oh my goodness the oatmeal the oatmeal yes the oatmeal is amazing and i
12:23 go to the oatmeal.com right now yeah i promise it is not bikini clad women
12:27 fighting an oatmeal although that would be fine too
12:33 i mean it's the internet there's probably there's probably a sight for it
12:38 but um but he goes and talks about how like there's there's like pretty much
12:42 whatever email you have and you're in like the crap list and then there's the
12:46 people that have gmail and then there's the people that have their own domain
12:49 right okay so i i don't think i've seen that one it's pretty good i i do love
12:54 him although i still have a hotmail account right
12:58 but there's a legitimate reason for that i used msn a lot yeah back in the day
13:02 yeah um i like it's tied into like forum accounts
13:08 that are like eight years old yeah for really legacy stuff but usually you can
13:11 change the email that's attached to it you can but it's like just too much work
13:15 what am i gonna do i'm gonna go in and like change i moved everything to my new
13:18 gmail but i have a hotmail and i have a hotmail.com uk and i have a outlook i
13:23 have a hotmail.ca i have Linus sebastian hotmail.ca fca as well basically uh so
13:28 you're just domain squatting basically like yeah yeah i want my naming convention okay so
13:32 email best practices things that things that hurt you old people who don't
13:35 understand chain letters chain leaders in general health advice oh
13:40 like you know what i got from my aunt once
13:44 i'm sorry i know my aunt comes up a lot but she's probably one of the least tech
13:47 savvy people i know she actually sent me i swear i swear to
13:51 god this email had a 25 megabyte attachment it was a powerpoint
13:56 presentation of like pictures of adorable animals and
13:59 i'm just like this is the least
14:03 efficient possible distribution medium for this
14:07 why are you emailing this to me and she was just like i hope it made you and the
14:11 worst part is she'll actually call me like and like ask me if i read these
14:15 emails i'm just like no i did not read that email
14:21 because it's horrible my grandpa sends out a lot of chain
14:24 mails but then he doesn't send them to like my brother my dad or myself they'll
14:29 send them to my mom and then my mom will like filter through them and then just
14:32 pass forward the okay ones and that's actually okay but that's having like a
14:37 human filter on part of it right and human filter is not a bad thing i mean i
14:41 don't mind being someone's human filter like again my aunt oh man
14:46 i have a feeling i'm gonna be picking on her a lot here but from time to
14:49 time she'll get one of those ones that's like virus alert holy crap your entire
14:54 internet could be downloaded into the the hard drive of the mainframe and you
14:58 need to back up your data now and like that kind of stuff she'll forward it to
15:02 me she'll be like is this legit and invariably i'm like no and stop
15:06 using the internet please um
15:10 she figured out text messaging on her own at one point anyway let's let's go
15:13 to let's go to twitter and let's have a look at what you guys think are some
15:18 pretty irritating email best practices ah that's a good one okay yes will
15:23 miracle here squeeze over so we can both share the spotlight i don't think i'm
15:28 going to make um my ARM
15:31 yeah why are you so wide why are you so aware well it's because i have to move
15:34 closer to the camera the more i move over here but i'm obviously not okay
15:37 like that just well okay whatever just i don't think it's a big deal okay i'll do
15:42 q a or i'll do i'll do this okay so will says i hate when people have goofy email
15:47 addresses that they give up during a job email interview as someone who knows the
15:51 hr manager at ncis let me tell you if your email address on your resume is
15:57 like cutiepie69 at hotmail.com or something
16:00 you are not getting a job like call it discrimination call it whatever you want
16:05 you're they're not going to email you they're not going to type that into a
16:08 browser and send an email to that address not going to happen great one
16:12 will uh isaac says five pages with absolutely
16:16 no punctuation you know what that goes beyond email etiquette that is
16:20 internet etiquette i actually okay
16:23 that's etiquette no punctuation that's just life that's just rude yeah that's
16:28 just like rude and horrible and speaking of things that are rude and horrible
16:32 yay i got my remote control now um i mean i try not to tweet like
16:38 phenomenally stupid pms that people send me but did you did you get the one i
16:41 tweeted the other day oh it was awesome it was like there was
16:45 no punctuation it was about this long and the guy basically bought some core 2
16:50 duo or something and he was asking me if i could do an overclocking guide and
16:54 like a tutorial for like how to use like this motherboard and the CPU i'm just
16:58 like and then he wanted me to send email him the video once i was done making it and
17:03 i was just like oh dude okay for one thing subscribe i'm not emailing you
17:08 when i'm finished making a video like what am i going to do email 230 000
17:12 people every time i make a video i've never made videos
17:16 and then number two there was no punctuation and like it's like this old
17:20 stuff and i'm just like oh come on like come on man what am i what am i
17:24 supposed to do to help you with this to help you to on twitter sometimes i can
17:28 excuse little things like punctuation if you're hitting your character count if
17:32 like you need that one character where the period could be or the comma like
17:36 yes but if you're if it's a short one there are some that are still
17:39 inexcusable i will never accept da as a
17:42 shortened form of the yeah i agree no no i i actually ignore those tweets i won't
17:47 read them i'd rather squeeze words together and just capitalize the second
17:51 word yeah like i don't mind you for you i don't mind like uh you know bc for
17:56 because like there's there's ones that it's just like that's okay
17:59 but don't pretend to be a thug on the internet
18:02 because you aren't you're not a thug
18:06 and if you're a thug then please don't come for me
18:10 but i'd slick to defend me he's very large he played football once
18:15 for like eight years that's a long time to play football you
18:20 must have gotten really tired
18:23 um okay there's some general q a there i
18:26 hate when people get long emails free ah yes
18:29 we're getting really good ones tonight dylan says i hate when people receive a
18:34 page long email from you and they respond with okay or lol
18:39 that's rude and that you know what actually email i don't run into that as
18:42 much but i am like when you're having a long conversation with like your
18:46 girlfriend or your boyfriend or something is a perfect example where you
18:49 can tell like you'll be like having a conversation and then all of a sudden
18:54 you send them like this long drawn out thing and they're like lol and you're like you're watching a video on your
18:58 computer right now and they're like yeah one thing um i was
19:02 called out for that at one point in time um for just saying k way too much
19:07 even though like and uh one thing i did to actually make
19:11 it better was just i say right that's not better but a lot of people
19:15 don't pull that with me i do do you
19:20 it just you automatically perceive it's longer so you automatically is that why
19:23 you do kk instead of k kkk yeah you know what that one i noticed
19:28 of course that one's not really trying but like so that means it wasn't even worth
19:32 the effort to type five characters
19:35 because you were only willing to go for two of the same well no i say right when
19:39 i'm typing on a keyboard if i'm typing on my phone i say kk
19:43 because i usually type on my phone with one hand
19:47 is it twice today yeah twice twice today you've been fired
19:52 no that's a good one oh this is a great topic i love this
19:55 um my parents use isp i told them to stop
20:01 yeah i know i play way too many
20:04 why do we have so many emails combine them all into one you know what that's
20:07 actually something i'm guilty of i do that though kind of because okay i have
20:11 like a huge list of emails but they all port towards one my gmail and then
20:15 whenever i respond i respond as that email and everything so it's i use one
20:19 email so i don't do that because i don't know how and i could figure it out if i
20:23 took like 10 minutes but i just have it it takes no time i know i know i know so
20:28 so to be perfectly honest like for years now i've just been using my ncix email
20:32 as my primary email for everything oh but then which is which is same problem
20:36 which is which is way worse than an isp-based one
20:40 like way worse because with an isp at
20:43 least you could be like oh yeah i'm gonna cancel my service in six months and they'll you know figure everything
20:48 out or is it like if it's a job they can just turn off your
20:53 wow not only that but because ncix uses
20:57 google apps i have like google docs that have like
21:01 all my game cd keys and stuff that are tied to my hands
21:04 way to be a hypocrite i know no no i fixed it all recently
21:09 but i was doing that for the longest time and so people wouldn't know where
21:12 to email me because my personal email address is with my personal email
21:16 address but i never check it like by the time i cleaned it up like a few months
21:20 ago i had something like 7 000 unread emails
21:23 most of them were like newsletters from motorcycle gear shops and stuff like
21:27 nothing relevant and then i have ones that i've just opened and then used once
21:31 and then never looked at again and then i've got all of the actually no i legit
21:35 need a lot of email accounts because i have all of my gmail accounts that are
21:38 tied to youtube accounts right so how many people does that apply i have like
21:41 eight of them but like
21:45 not that many people have that many youtube accounts right
21:49 so uh so yeah that's that's a really good one people have too many email
21:52 accounts and you never know how to reach them all right i guess i'm screwed as mine as
21:57 i play way too many video games people who fanboy with things because their product is mainstream and his picture is
22:01 a character from league of legends and you're saying i don't think league
22:05 of legends is mainstream it's the most played game in history that doesn't make
22:09 it mainstream necessarily actually no no see this is no this is a good topic i
22:14 would if you need a jacket it's right there i'm fine i would make the argument
22:17 that mainstream is something like internet explorer
22:22 whereas internet explorer actually is not the number one in terms of market
22:25 share okay so i would say that again but the
22:29 default mobile if someone's gonna play at moba they're gonna okay
22:32 nhl 2012 is mainstream
22:36 but league of legends i would say is more of like a hardcore style game that
22:39 lots of people play okay but if you if you play pc games
22:45 because you're basically pulling out just console games right now okay hold on let me find a pc game for you
22:50 um
23:05 is nearly as mainstream as legal agents
23:08 okay hold on let me think of a mainstream piece of crap this is terrible i mean that's the state of pc
23:12 gaming you can't even come up with a mainstream pc game if you try
23:16 that's like just a pc game yeah
23:20 wow okay you're fine good thank you
23:24 completely different genre it doesn't matter we're talking we're talking yeah
23:28 but you can have a genre of movie that's like you can have like like you
23:32 can have an obscure action movie that lots of people watched like i would
23:36 argue blade runner is relatively is not mainstream even though lots of people
23:41 watch but pretty much everyone's heard of it so does that make it mainstream
23:44 no not necessarily i would say because okay here example of a mainstream movie
23:49 would be some something like dumb and dumber that is a mainstream movie so
23:53 tons of people have watched it so i guess it's like not necessarily but you but you but it's
23:58 like it's everyone's heard of legos it's not like jim carrey in it everyone's heard of league of legends
24:03 i guarantee you my wife hasn't heard of league of legends
24:07 not mainstream but she'll have heard of an nhl game
24:11 well it's freaking nhl game right but that's what she's heard of world of
24:14 warcraft
24:18 i wouldn't be too surprised if she has her legal legends is freaking nude you know
24:21 what we're for doing that
24:26 hey vaughn are you feeding the baby can you come here for a minute
24:31 thanks time you're gonna bring on camera uh she
24:34 doesn't have to go on camera okay just stand at the door if you don't
24:37 want to go on camera it can kind of see the door
24:42 no no it's okay if she doesn't come through the door that it should be fine i'll just stand here
24:46 i hope the audio still picks up okay from here are you scrolling through no no no no no
24:50 no no no no no no no no yeah we were getting good ones those are all the ones about the email thing okay uh here okay
24:55 so we have to settle a dispute okay uh have you heard of the game world of
24:59 warcraft can you talk loud so they can hear you
25:03 yes okay have you heard of the game league of legends yes
25:09 thanks for that why i lost
25:13 it's so ridiculously well known wait what hold on what
25:17 how could you possibly have heard of league of legends
25:22 no she heard slick talk about it that does not count that totally counts no it
25:26 doesn't that totally counts you're a total gamer nerd it doesn't matter so
25:30 the fact that you talk everyone knows a total gamer nerd oh no they don't do
25:34 they do no they don't do
25:37 i'm eating my mangoes okay let's find let's find some more uh oh yes when
25:42 people type every word with a capital letter that's the worst thing ever
25:46 yeah that's just wrong my grandpa does that oh at the beginning of
25:50 he means the beginning of every word yeah my grandpa just caps locks
25:55 absolutely everything no cap's luck is like it feels like he's yelling at me
25:59 that's terrible you know what's another one that irks me when people share emails
26:04 old people oh and facebook's oh my goodness like i don't care that
26:07 you just got married you're i don't care just keep yourself freaking
26:12 facebooks yes i know it's like
26:15 it's like combining email is like it's like the new like getting a joint bank
26:19 account yeah it's like no actually i sent an email to
26:25 like my guy friend part of this couple because that's who i
26:29 want to talk to that's who this email is relevant to that's what email is and
26:33 then i mean think of think of remember email
26:36 electronic mail when was the last time you addressed a letter to two people
26:40 that's anything other than a christmas card that's just a card or like an invitation it's called cc
26:46 oh that one drives me crazy okay i love
26:49 this topic of conversation and hopefully everyone else likes it as much as i do
26:53 but they seem to it's quite possible that they don't so
26:56 you know what you want to check the twitch chat really quick quick and just make sure they don't hate it it's one of
26:59 the uh
27:04 yeah yeah seems like it's all good can you make it go away now
27:08 thank you all right what else we got stuff people
27:12 hate about emails putting stupid email addresses on business cards yes you
27:15 should never that's that's right up there with resume have you seen it
27:18 though i have you get way more business cards than i did yes yeah oh i've seen
27:22 it particularly like uh like at ces there's always like
27:26 some weird guy running around who does like game casting or like um
27:32 you know like some weird media thing where it's like one guy or two guys and
27:37 they think it's like they think it's hip to have like an email address that's
27:40 like you know i don't care about authority at like theirdomain.com or like something
27:45 like that it's like it's a business card it's like professional yeah
27:49 although diesel had a mock-up business card that he created for our client that
27:53 was really cool that was really funny yeah what did what did it say on it i
27:56 don't remember what it all said but it was really good
27:59 it's i think it said on the first date i think it said like sometimes i don't eat people or
28:04 something like that it was it was just ridiculous but it was funny
28:08 and he wasn't being serious he wasn't handing me his business card like he was
28:11 like yeah i think this is funny
28:15 yeah yeah um okay so
28:20 what push pull can okay no we're not talking about that right now i got a new
28:23 email every five minutes p.m with in-law phone rings it's her
28:29 yeah yeah that's a good one
28:33 yeah funny pictures that were posted like a billion years ago
28:40 john paul's with me about his aunt
28:43 okay hey patrick call out shout out to you
28:46 for tuning in on your birthday awesome
28:49 and these aren't candies they're dried mangoes they're absolutely amazing but they're like 13 this is the first time i
28:54 bought them in like two years
28:59 um you know what i don't have any comments on the 8970 or the 89.90 we'll comment
29:04 when the embargo lifts once we've actually got the card in hand and we've
29:07 like tested it oh my goodness uh GeForce experience we
29:13 didn't talk about this uh last week did we have you heard of the GeForce experience
29:17 no oh i've been in like school zone for a
29:20 while uh you know the uh the internal code name for it at NVIDIA was the gf
29:25 experience wait for it
29:33 but anyway the GeForce experience or the gf experience is really cool so what it
29:39 does is it's basically like a driver download that babysits your entire
29:44 computer for you so think of it in terms of like an optional setting so it's not
29:49 the same conversation we had last week about like soldered cpus where it takes
29:53 the choice away it's an optional thing you don't have to install it
29:56 that will configure your system according to what CPU and what GPU you
30:01 have for every game and it will optimize the settings so
30:05 that you don't end up playing at a rubbish frame rate or with crap details
30:10 and 200 FPS because you don't know any better it automatically keeps your
30:14 drivers updated and it just makes all these changes
30:17 completely in the background without you knowing i remember going over to my little brother's house yeah exactly
30:21 that's what i was gonna bring up he has a gtx 275 and he was running some crap
30:26 call of duty game at 1680 by 1050 low
30:29 details because he didn't know any better i turned it all up for him he was
30:32 like whoa this looks way better now and that's what happens i think people
30:38 not configuring games properly is killing pc gaming is one of the things
30:41 that's killing pc gaming disagree or agree i could totally be
30:45 because a lot of people are worried about their FPS so they just crank it to the bottom and let it rip and people who
30:50 don't think the graphics on pc are better than the graphics on a console
30:54 just completely wrong which is completely wrong i mean even cod games
30:57 look better on a pc okay you gotta see i'll show you like after the live stream
31:01 or something some guy posted i'm not gonna necessarily say where but whatever
31:05 um skyrim after 100 mods and you download a hundred mods that
31:10 changed just like little tiny tweaks of how the graphics work
31:14 it's incredible like it's like hard to
31:17 reference that it's the same game just because the details are so freaking
31:20 amazing really and like he's like oh yeah i'm just for xbox right no pc but
31:26 he's got like he's like three i'm just kidding
31:30 he's got like a pretty sick rig and it pushes it pretty hard but it looks
31:34 incredible best looking game i've ever seen after skyrim after 100 mods which
31:39 is like that's a crazy amount of mods but still you can do it and that's the
31:42 other thing too is GeForce experience should be able to predict with a
31:45 reasonable degree of accuracy remember NVIDIA has like some kind of super
31:49 computer thing going on where it's capable of simulating any graphics card
31:54 any configuration do you know about this yeah i've heard of it yeah so
31:58 for those of you who don't know they have like this uber configuration that can just
32:03 emulate any computer ever and that's how they do their validation for graphics
32:07 drivers and for for testing things like GeForce experience to find out they can
32:11 run any game on this on any configuration and then they can just
32:15 create their own internal what makes it look best
32:19 and they actually do they have people hands-on tweaking it as well
32:23 which is really really cool um so they can they can predict with a
32:27 reasonable degree of accuracy how it's going to run and then what i'd love to
32:30 see for something like this in the future because remember out of everyone
32:34 who has more inves invested in the pc as a hardcore gaming platform than NVIDIA
32:38 yeah yeah for sure they don't even have a CPU
32:41 business to fall back on nope they have tegra now
32:45 but unlike AMD they've got gamers i mean they have
32:49 things like tesla but gamers are still what drives that
32:52 development of GeForce graphics cards of GeForce processors so
32:58 you look at them you go so what next generation maybe they figure out oh
33:02 you've got graphics horsepower to spare let's um you know let's
33:06 suggest some mods for you and then all of a sudden you could turn
33:09 this into a platform that not only optimizes your driver setting for a game
33:13 but actually optimizes the pc gaming experience so you don't so you never
33:18 have to deal with ever again something like launching a game
33:22 which then launches at 800 by 600 and you have to go manually like it doesn't
33:26 like properly detect it would be nice too because like not even for we're
33:30 talking about our own use but realistically you and me are probably
33:33 going to want to configure it ourselves i'll probably change it anyway because i yeah
33:38 i have a pretty crap tolerance for frame dips yeah so i won't be looking at
33:42 what's my FPS right now while i'm doing nothing i'll be like did i see it dip
33:46 crank everything back down and that'll be slightly different for me because in
33:50 in single player games i don't actually care quite as much i i want it to look
33:54 amazing still drives me crazy and then in like FPS games or multiplayer games i
33:58 usually drop quite a bit just so i never see a frame rate loss or anything like
34:01 that but then this is going to be awesome for like oh i just built the
34:05 computer for my buddy who wants to start playing
34:09 freaking whatever star citizen with me but is going to start playing everything
34:12 yep um i want to just load this piece of software and just forget about it and
34:16 he's going to be good like that'll be cool and this is the kind of thing that
34:20 really is going to be the future of how guys like NVIDIA and AMD are going to
34:23 differentiate themselves from each other because you look at what AMD's doing right now with never settle where you're
34:27 getting far cry 3 hitman absolution and
34:31 sleeping dogs with a high-end card plus
34:34 20 off the upcoming medal of honor game which is insane like seriously guys
34:40 if you don't have a high-end graphics card go buy a 7950 right now because it
34:44 comes with three games that are worth over a hundred dollars
34:47 in total like you could agree that's a hundred dollars they're both they're both 60 they're
34:51 all three of them no sleeping dogs i think is now 49. yeah the other two were
34:55 59. yeah so like crazy value and i think that the entire internet agrees that far
34:59 cry 3 is just outstanding it's amazing oh my goodness so that alone
35:04 if you're a gamer you should be playing that game right it's so much fun
35:07 yeah i don't know it's really good so so basically yeah go buy a 7950 right
35:12 now but on the other hand you look at what NVIDIA is doing where i think
35:15 they're bundling assassin's creed 3 and borderlands 2 which are both
35:19 legit enough titles um some cards okay yeah some cards and it
35:23 depends on the retailer like ncix i know has some cards that come with both
35:27 um so so they're doing that and then they're driving things like stereo 3d
35:31 which whether you like it or not stereo 3d is not going away i mean the
35:36 form of it might change but it's not going away and they have way
35:39 better support than AMD uh things like GeForce experience things like physx so
35:44 they're pushing like the technology and it'll be interesting to see which one
35:47 works out better in the long run
35:50 um but i don't have a clear answer for that so yeah GeForce experience i haven't
35:55 tried the beta yet and i've heard there are still some issues but
35:58 it's in beta and based on where NVIDIA like NVIDIA doesn't always do everything
36:03 perfect the first time i mean look at how long it's taken phys x to
36:07 have a serious impact on a game like like it does in borderlands 2 or in our
36:11 community well borderlands 2's kind of
36:15 it makes a difference yeah but they're whether you like how they're doing it or not
36:19 but the technology making a difference and then going through and manually
36:23 removing things for certain people okay so that's a whole other debate but the
36:27 i guess okay but something like GeForce experience i don't mind yeah because
36:31 it's not like an AMD card user is going to install GeForce experience which will
36:35 dial down all their settings although
36:40 they'll be hilarious they'll be so hilarious if they just like set all your
36:44 settings to minimum again and every NVIDIA fanboy on the entire
36:50 internet found a way to take every like
36:53 AMD card user's computer and secretly install the g4 experience on it
36:58 so the game just crashes and then like a legit looking error message comes up and
37:03 it's like it looks like you're not running a GeForce graphics card
37:07 and then there's like a link to buy one
37:13 not good not right
37:17 not how it needs to work
37:20 hey this is a really good point from jared i work for our country's largest
37:24 isp and i hate supporting isp mail it's
37:27 useless leave it to the pros and i think the problem with supporting isp mail is
37:32 the people who are using it more than anything else it's like how do
37:36 i integrate this into outlook express and they'll like call you right it's
37:41 like leave me alone
37:44 why are you using outlook express
37:50 my mom used to use outlook express okay i think we're down to uh we're down
37:54 to where we left off so does this have a page up oh it does no way
37:59 so cool oh my goodness look at all these emails this thing has a mouse on it
38:03 emails
38:06 you know what screw you you use that all the time well no i don't i only ever
38:11 used it as like a remote remember i opened the package for this right the
38:15 first day we recorded it on the thing
38:22 and that one's like an air mouse so you just go like this oh okay that stuff
38:25 okay okay uh you know what okay let's do some
38:28 more twitter q a for a little bit and then you get started with twitter q a
38:32 and then i'm going to go find i had a couple other topics i really wanted to
38:35 talk we still have to do the Intel one and Intel oh and ac and the new youtube
38:40 okay no we got lots of topics okay okay don't worry guys lots of topics now you
38:43 do twitter q a for a bit i'm hungry anyway go take my seat
38:48 i'll be back how do you even you guys have to tweet
38:53 me if he says anything rude or disrespectful about me while i'm gone
38:59 you can't read from there no i've really bad eggs
39:02 do you need your glasses i don't have them here i'll make do
39:08 sorry best onboard audio i've ever heard on a
39:11 laptop was probably the MSI ice powers called ice power uh dynaudio
39:17 dynaudio who's got ice power way better i don't know what ice power i don't
39:20 remember who has ice power but uh the MSI dynaudio one is like super legit way
39:25 better than anything else encountered i've never heard beats audio though
39:30 um i've got a friend at school that has one it isn't one of the high-end laptops
39:34 it's one of the more business-oriented laptops and i didn't really notice the
39:37 difference but it has like
39:41 bass on the bottom but like a sub yeah
39:47 but if i'm on my laptop i'm probably listening to headphones anyway so it
39:51 doesn't really help what do you mean it doesn't help
39:54 i'm having a subwoofer on the bottom oh oh okay well no but i mean it would help
39:58 if the audio chipset was better yeah no that's what i'm saying but i didn't
40:02 notice the difference but there's a cat
40:05 look at the camera ah this is not why i haven't actually
40:09 left yet right into the garage okay let's see no i do not think the
40:14 world will end i'm surprised that was actually a
40:18 question can you post skyrim thing video description
40:23 um i don't think i don't think we'll post it on youtube um but if people spam me on twitter so i
40:28 don't forget i will post a link to the guy's
40:32 blog or whatever it is that has the 100 mods because it's pretty epic i'm
40:35 planning that as a project over uh christmas break i want to set up my
40:39 skyrim with a hundred mods and just look at how ridiculously fantastic it is
40:45 um
40:50 getting get an ASUS zoner stx alex at
40:53 chickenwin that card is amazing i have 595's which
40:57 are pretty damn close to five nine eighths
41:00 and um we did some sound card testing and i
41:04 could tell a difference moving up to the zoner stx with most lower end headphones
41:08 i couldn't really tell the difference moving up to that high end of a sound card but
41:12 with something like five nine eights or five nine fives uh you can really tell
41:16 the difference uh when are you going to do promise
41:20 response time uh that response time video will happen
41:24 uh we're just really busy right now i'm in finals i've got
41:28 tons of finals next week um once that's over with we'll probably look into more
41:32 of the that style of content videos that we've
41:35 been talking about for a long time move into a lot of those
41:45 console and pc gamer rant i don't know um
41:50 there's reason for both and like the thing is it's pointless because
41:54 everyone likes their medium more because of x or y reason so there's no really
42:00 point in arguing with that person because they like it for whatever preference it is so just i don't know
42:05 let them enjoy it it's a video game we should all be happy gamers anyways
42:09 but oh
42:13 da da
42:18 downloaded GeForce experience today it actually worked pretty good with my games i can tell a different difference
42:22 that's pretty good to hear um i'm definitely going to look into
42:26 grabbing it and trying it out at least so that i can tell people my opinion on
42:29 it but again i'm going to final scenes so probably after that i'm 100 sure we'll
42:35 do a video on it when it's actually released we might even do a video on it while it's in beta not entirely sure
42:41 um
42:47 not entirely sure what you're talking about kearns knoll
42:51 mind doing a video about Windows 8 and steam shortcuts
42:57 i don't know new youtube later was horrible
43:01 oh my goodness i don't usually like the youtube layout changes um facebook
43:05 changes are usually all right but youtube layout changes i've never really
43:08 liked talking about youtube layout changes how'd you get on a topic without me
43:13 someone asked someone asked yep just because someone asked something now all
43:17 of a sudden we're gonna talk about it what do you think this is some kind of q a session yeah oh it's weird i'm on your
43:22 side it's like it's like now you look so
43:25 small
43:28 okay good
43:32 okay not to get into sort of too much while we look the same
43:36 you're so large not to get into too much detail but like
43:39 have you ever switched sides in the bed
43:42 oh yeah yeah it's weird right
43:46 no when Yvonne was pregnant she couldn't lay on one side or something because of
43:51 like the baby or something like it makes it so it can't breathe or like it's hard
43:54 sometimes like it blocks an artery or something like you have to sleep a certain way
43:58 during certain parts of the pregnancy i'm sorry if this is too much detail for you guys but um
44:03 like we had to switch sides and i was just like
44:07 sitting there in bed and i'm like whoa i don't understand how this works
44:11 okay here's another one have you ever you ever drink from the faucet like just
44:14 turn it on and just drink from it yeah okay pretend this is a faucet go ahead
44:18 drink from it okay try this tonight put your head the other
44:22 way i already know it's gonna be weird oh no
44:27 it's like you know how it's weird when you fold your hands the wrong way it's
44:30 ten times weirder than that because you like you'll be like
44:33 you're like you won't know how to i swear
44:37 go ahead you guys those of you watching the live stream
44:40 maybe after we have the youtube layout changes topic discussion but don't try
44:44 this go find a sink and put your head the wrong way because it's ridiculous
44:49 okay let's how far have you gotten into youtube layout changes i just started
44:54 okay just started youtube layout changes are the most ridiculous thing ever and
44:58 i'm gonna show you why yeah i'm sorry for that you guys uh oh
45:03 right no that's not what to do i understand why this isn't working
45:08 there we go all right so
45:11 number one your name is sending oh i'm not signed in you gotta be signed in for
45:15 it to be as horrible as it is well it's still horrible oh i know i i love how my
45:18 24 inch monitor has all this blank space here which is flipping brilliant
45:24 and uh oh what what account am i going to be able to sign into yeah they
45:27 justified left they just like shove everything lay off into the left uh i
45:32 don't think um i think i have two step on this
45:38 i don't care if they email me here i'm just gonna ignore it you guys just so you know i will not read your email i
45:43 don't even check this email actually going back to our multiple emails thing
45:47 yeah i use this email once for like contest submissions and he doesn't even
45:51 push emails to a different email so you will legitimately not get them yeah
45:55 legit won't get it you know it's actually really cool if
45:59 you want to throw away email address that actually will work like you can register on websites with it and stuff
46:03 um not go to not sharing my dot info it's
46:07 an actual website and you can sign up for email accounts that are
46:11 some random username at not sharing my dot info and their legitimate email
46:16 account so you can use them for like we might have a problem
46:19 oh never mind it's okay because i was thinking maybe that was
46:23 why this wasn't working because i'm pretty sure i'm pretty sure
46:27 i'm entering the right password here
46:34 what the heck oh i entered the wrong username
46:39 here
46:44 there we go if you're tuning in now we'll be talking
46:47 about youtube ui very soon yeah very soon as soon as uh
46:52 here let me let me go get that code in the meantime you entertain do a dance or
46:56 something no
46:59 sing no
47:03 twitter one second guys sorry
47:08 i'm drinking both sides depending on where i oh i should probably move
47:13 hello you're back already yeah i'm good yeah i'm good why do you keep taking my chair
47:18 because it's like you're some kind of homeless person and all i have to do is
47:22 move away from my house for like two seconds and you like take it
47:25 imagine people just stole houses that would actually
47:30 that's the smartest thing ever why do we even make youtube videos let's just do
47:33 these houses yeah just flip houses that we do yeah
47:37 sounds legit uh okay
47:41 switch again cause this is weird it feels like i just switched sides in the bed with you
47:45 okay back to uh back to why the youtube is horrible now
47:52 all right sweet there we go let me just
47:55 check on twitch make sure we got our uh on x all right so what's horrible about
48:00 this number of things so now that i'm signed in you can see there's actually more blank space here which is amazing
48:05 i love the what to watch i actually went through this earlier today so it's got
48:09 my other channel it's got something from logan which is fine i got no problem
48:13 with that has some old video from logan which is like this is a couple months
48:17 old at this point i'm like okay how is this at the very top of my feed
48:20 um there was some other stupid stuff check this out my own video
48:26 recommended for me my own
48:30 video i mean you were in it like
48:35 guys that's actually hilarious i turned to them guys my own video recommended for me
48:40 brilliant right it's sort of your video too you were in
48:44 it but ridiculous okay so let's keep going like
48:47 i actually spent a fair bit of time playing with this today prepping this topic because it's just ridiculous so
48:53 you know channels that i have as like my recommended channels so it's kind of
48:57 like yeah i'm aware of this channel already like like i know about Linus cat
49:01 tips but thank you um wait what wrong thing there i hope oh
49:06 shoot see i can't uh i can't monitor
49:09 i can't monitor xsplit when we're there we go we should give you a second i know
49:13 i know we totally need one okay so there's some badminton videos that's fine but i'm subscribed to that and
49:18 check this out 10 months ago this video is from whoa
49:22 this is in the top of my what i should watch feed like is it paying attention
49:26 at all some ncis tech tips it's got stuff i've
49:30 watched already it knows i've watched it
49:33 and it's from two days ago and it's apparently way down here and
49:37 something um so yeah i think the worst part is
49:41 recommending me to watch my own video okay my least favorite thing okay look
49:46 on the left here my subscriptions yes if you go there and then you check where is
49:51 it uploads only okay it's already two full loads that i
49:55 have to go through and then if not now because audio issues and whatnot if you
50:00 click on a video and then go back it loses this preference and you have to
50:05 click on my subscribe here let's do it okay so we go back
50:09 unless i already fixed it unless they already fixed that hold on
50:12 my subscriptions uploads only so they must have already fixed it i did that
50:15 like immediately on rollout
50:18 okay okay hold on i've got i've got some good ones i've got some good ones okay
50:22 so when you go to the home page
50:25 where's the where where's the viral videos oh there you go so this is my home page
50:30 there you go if you go to the home page where
50:33 so you have to go like i don't know okay so where
50:37 where where are my viral videos you guys like where's the ray william johnson
50:40 video that's hot today where's the you know video about some world event that's
50:45 going on that's that's hot today that's true because the default menu is not my
50:49 subscriptions and the default menu is not even
50:52 even if it was my subscriptions that's terrible too because what if it's a
50:55 channel i'm not subscribed to what if i just want to see what's hot on youtube
50:59 right now oh oh and recommended channels is great so my top recommended channel
51:03 is gay penis which i clicked on just because i was
51:07 curious why is this recommended for me he has one video called ear rape and
51:12 it's just like a horrible noise and i'm like
51:15 doesn't he only have 674 yes
51:19 so how did that possibly be okay then there's my own channel
51:23 then there's something i don't know what this is tim mentioned i've watched a
51:26 bunch of his videos so that one's the one legit one check of tomorrow okay
51:31 legit i'm a tech guy so and then kerbal space program which it's like
51:35 irrelevant it's that stupid game that like you make yeah
51:39 yeah um so okay okay okay so there's that
51:42 there's that now get this so then there's my subscriptions which seems to
51:45 be broken too because it's not all the latest ones like i'm pretty sure
51:50 newegg tv has had more stuff in the last two days than that
51:53 um okay so fine
51:58 social get this so this is the most blatant horrible integration of google
52:03 plus that i've yet seen like gmail doesn't have anything like this
52:07 what the heck is this
52:11 like what is this i haven't looked at it no it's terrible basically it's just
52:15 random like google plus crap that if i really wanted to know if someone on my
52:20 google plus liked something on google plus on
52:24 youtube i would go to google plus and i would look at that like this is just just
52:29 blatant just blatant integration of
52:32 something nobody wants into something that everyone wants
52:36 and i mean i understand why they're doing it but well it's it's buried in a
52:39 sub menu though yes so at least it doesn't bug you meanwhile there's
52:43 fundamental stuff that's still broken this kills me this is what guys this is
52:47 why i hate youtube pms so check this out this is how many pms i get this is going
52:52 back to the fifth so in the last two days i've gotten this many pms
52:56 which is worse when i'm replying to them like when i reply to them they come in really
53:00 fast we're all the way back to the fourth now so 100 p.m in the last sort
53:04 of four or five days um that plus twitter plus email plus
53:10 everything just adds up so this is what i hate about this remember this is the
53:14 company that brought you gmail the conversation based email thread thing
53:19 okay why is it that here i'm gonna find
53:22 something that's a reply here why does this not have any other
53:26 information in it you can't expand you can't view other messages or anything so
53:32 guys don't message me on youtube
53:36 do not do it because what happens is i might reply to you and you'll say
53:40 something like hey Linus here's my configuration what video card should i
53:44 get to which i will reply 7770 for example and then you'll reply
53:49 back to me a few days later remember i've read another 80 youtube messages
53:53 alone by then let alone with something right and twitter messages and whatever
53:58 else but is my power supply enough for that and i'll be like guy i have no idea
54:02 what you're asking me i have no idea what power supply you have me so then i
54:06 have to send back another message typing out explaining that i'm not going
54:10 to be able to help you and then you have to send me another message and all of a sudden it turns
54:15 this is why we need a forum like then i'm just going to send like uh like a
54:19 copy paste reply to everyone who messages me join the form join the forum
54:22 join the forum because i can't manage this like it's
54:25 totally impossible uh and i think i just messed up but nope there we go okay by
54:30 the way forum's coming i need to at least like finish finals first
54:34 which are coming up soon once i finish finals work on the forum we'll start up
54:38 again okay so meanwhile they're not even fixing fundamental stuff like how broken
54:43 private messaging is oh yeah here's another good one this this is this is
54:47 freaking awesome so i think i have to go back to messages
54:51 uh yes contact notifications i have 1500 of
54:54 them watch what happens if i actually try to accept them
54:59 it only has that little bit yeah it adds like two or three or something and it's
55:03 like great thanks for that so that's broken comments shows me only a small
55:07 fraction of the actual comments that get posted on my video which is fine i guess
55:10 because it's unmanageable anyway
55:14 uh shared with you i totally ignore those um yeah so so ridiculous okay so back to
55:20 the homepage back to other things that are wrong uh watch later watch history right so i
55:25 can't find anything viral social i would have thought would have been like viral
55:28 stuff managed subscriptions is fine browse channels this is the kicker and
55:32 this is where it went from being annoyed to being mad
55:36 like okay here i cannot emphasize enough how mad i am
55:40 about what's about what you guys are about to see so get this so we've got a
55:44 whole bunch of different topics it's always been sorted by topic and it i
55:47 mean do you remember when there used to be awards like there was like top ten in canada or two that was really cool those
55:52 were really cool i liked those because i always wanted them but they were never accurate so i don't
55:56 know if i ever lived it actually won them like i was number one most viewed in canada
56:00 once and there's no way like there's just no way um
56:05 okay so we got recommended for you we got animation automotive beauty and
56:08 fashion oh really no way this is in alphabetical order
56:12 that is the worst way of sorting things ever oh i didn't even notice that before
56:17 that's terrible oh okay so top gear motor trend car and
56:22 driver these are all these all make sense beauty and fashion i have no idea which ones are the good ones
56:27 celebrities and gossip okay so we got ray william johnson there
56:30 film and entertainment we got ray william johnson there
56:33 lols and interwebs we got from william johnson
56:37 what category is he not in okay so there's that now get this
56:42 uh comedy doesn't have ray william johnson for some reason but does have
56:45 epic meal time which i would argue is not really very funny but is definitely
56:49 cooking and definitely not health okay so there's that
56:53 um there were some glaring omissions that i
56:57 noticed from tv gaming where is pewdiepie
57:02 isn't he the most like biggest person on youtube he is number 10 for most
57:07 subscribed on youtube he is number two for the gaming category behind only
57:11 machinima at this point okay he is the fastest grow i mean okay like
57:16 i can't watch his videos let me make that clear i'm not a bro oh okay not a
57:20 bro however
57:23 you can argue with results he is the fastest growing channel on youtube even
57:27 bigger than uh what's her name jenna marbles who is number two right now
57:32 and somehow youtube has overlooked him in
57:35 the gaming category where is he exactly there are channels here that have
57:39 literally one quarter to one eighth as many
57:43 subscribers as he does daily views for him is in the millions
57:48 like four or five million views per day and he somehow he's not a top featured
57:53 gaming channel let's say it's like okay that makes a lot of sense
57:57 um music okay you can say whatever you want about justin bieber and
58:03 where he should be there but he should be there he's the number one music
58:07 channel behind universal music like i actually pay attention to this stuff
58:11 where is justin bieber here not there
58:14 um okay now this is the part that okay here here here get this okay so it
58:19 should be noted that i'm on location canada and the results change a little
58:22 bit if i go to worldwide here's another glaring admission where's the usa
58:27 what you cannot manually select usa as a
58:31 location no it's not there trust me it is not
58:36 there okay so let's go worldwide just for
58:39 lulls actually oh no no no hold on oh shoot no
58:44 no let's go back i want to i want to stay i want to stay canada for now sorry
58:48 guys trust me i'm going somewhere with this i'm going i'm getting to the part that made me mad soon
58:52 okay canada uh here so back to canada all right so so
58:58 we've established that there seemed to be some omissions in terms of the
59:01 rankings of things so let's go back to ah tech
59:04 so i'm not here i can swallow that i guess
59:08 although this creators project thing with 43 000 subscribers seems kind of
59:12 sort of like it doesn't need to be there okay so i'm location canada where am i
59:20 where am i slick i just i'm not there i didn't know texila was
59:25 canada i don't think any of these things are canada i noticed all of google's
59:28 channels are here ijustine is very definitely not canada very definitely
59:32 not canada very soldier knows best is not very definitely not canada indeed um
59:37 you know what else is missing so they've got htc where's samsung mobile
59:42 we've got newegg.com which is clearly not canada so you could make the
59:46 argument okay so one of the things that was suggested to me was well Linus
59:50 you're logged in as yourself obviously it's not there and i went okay
59:55 where's mci xcom where's the other channel
60:00 but i am clearly not logged in as
60:04 and like you can say oh you're just complaining about your own thing but
60:07 there's a billion people here okay there's guys with like subscribers 39
60:11 000 subscribers here 39 000 41 000 i mean there was one that i was looking at
60:15 i forget which one it was um shoot i don't even remember but it was
60:20 one that's getting like like a thousand views a day like we're talking a channel
60:23 that is 100th the size of what i'm doing on one of my channels alone so well
60:27 about 1 200th of what they're doing together so i'm like okay where am i so
60:31 i kind of went okay well they've clearly got the regions all mixed up so let's go
60:35 ahead and change to location worldwide shall we
60:38 so this is how broken this is where's justin bieber where is
60:43 like where's pewdiepie they're in there by the way so now where am i
60:48 oh still not there we have stuff in here with 5 000 subscribers
60:54 there's a channel called samsung galaxy s2 with 5 000 subscribers that's in here
61:00 7 000 yes there are incredibly small channels
61:03 neither Linus tech tips nor nci xcom are
61:06 in here that's crazy isn't it
61:11 so i actually sent an email to partner support today i was just like oh guys i
61:15 couldn't help noticing that i'm i've been a youtube partner for like
61:19 you know three and a half four years now and my channel is not a recommended
61:23 channel under tech which is sort of clearly the category that i'm in
61:28 so yeah that's sort of that's that that was a shot through the heart because i'm
61:32 very sure that people use this to find channels so yeah so they've totally
61:36 screwed up the regionality they've totally screwed up as far as i can tell
61:41 the channels that are actually showing up here because like some of these i see
61:45 samsung mobile is here now now that we're here
61:48 apple's here google's here and i mean that's the thing about samsung too is
61:51 it's like i guess i guess i shouldn't necessarily be that butthurt about it
61:55 because if they left out samsung who's one of google's key partners like key
62:00 strategic partners for the future of Android
62:04 then it's it's probably not something where they were like oh yeah well that
62:07 line is techtube's guy i think we'll just pull him out but i think it's just that's how broken the algorithm is
62:14 i mean ray william johnson's in three different categories and i'm not in the
62:18 tech category that's like well what are you guys doing over there like well ray should
62:22 definitely be in a at least one but still but but only one
62:26 you don't get to be in like six different categories like so if i make
62:29 one video about makeup and i have 200 000 subscribers should i demand to be
62:33 under makeup because i have a bunch of subscribers like
62:36 i know it's ambiguous sometimes but jeez
62:39 i mean there's stuff in here that isn't tech the slo-mo guys is not a tech
62:42 channel and here it is it's listed under tech i don't understand how that makes any
62:47 sense whatsoever so there i hope that wasn't too boring for you
62:52 guys i hope you guys found it interesting that is my take on how
62:56 friggin broken youtube
62:59 new horrible horrible horrible layout is
63:03 here let's go to actually oh this is no this is another one oh
63:06 okay so we'll go look at an actual video now
63:10 pause thank you good work
63:13 um so we'll go look at an actual video
63:16 maximize there we go so we got all this blank space over here that's not that
63:19 bad i read the comments on my videos i really do i think a lot of youtubers
63:23 don't and i think they're missing out because i read them too yep it's a great
63:27 way to find out what the audience actually thinks of your content when i
63:31 click all comments do you like how much of my screen i'm
63:34 using now we're down to like a third
63:38 and on the monitor that i have that i usually read comments on it's 2560x1440
63:44 which means i'm using a quarter of the monitor because it just mashes
63:47 everything over to that corner and it's absolutely ridiculous
63:52 so yeah how much do i like the new youtube layout not not a whole huggy
63:57 huggy lot here sorry let's go ahead and kill that sorry
64:01 that ended up being like my tirade and not so much uh
64:05 not so much sort of a conversation between us but i'm sorry for that no no
64:10 that's fine but yeah i hadn't checked it out way too much so i was i'm i'm super
64:14 super mad ah
64:19 no okay is slick attacking i didn't know
64:22 what that meant until i had to ask one of my friends at school
64:26 um i'm not like i'm still not entirely
64:30 in full understanding of it but it means like huge fan of anime oh okay i watch
64:35 one i need to eat so go ahead you're gonna get a chair we'll switch sides in the
64:39 bed again i watched my warmed it for you which oh
64:43 god which as some people figured out from
64:46 some of the videos my background on my laptop um it's sword art online one of
64:50 my friends drew that picture that's why it's the background of my laptop but
64:54 anyways um so any constellation you came up first
64:59 page if it's any constellation you come up on
65:02 first page when you search for tech
65:05 search for tech okay so that i i don't know i didn't see
65:09 all i saw was the uh the recommended channels anyway i'm eating now so go
65:12 ahead you
65:15 gotta pay google to be there i've heard about search ranking stuff where you
65:19 have to pay them but i don't suspect that that guy with 5000 subscribers
65:24 got there because of that um unbox therapy was there
65:29 on international i don't think it was there in canada no not on international
65:34 yes international no canada even though he's based out of toronto right okay
65:42 what is the final platform for the forum uh v bulletin
65:48 yeah paid for it already when you guys were sending your recommendations so
65:52 we're not changing it now and v-bulletin's good we're going with
65:55 revolting um please talk about Intel already only
66:00 30 minutes left okay get started so i'll just bring it
66:03 up okay Intel released a statement saying that they will oh well i'm still
66:07 eating but whatever until released a statement saying that they're committed to lga
66:11 um although it was fairly kind of
66:16 airy it wasn't like down to the point like oh 1155
66:21 tier and 2011 tier will always be lga blah blah blah blah as we were all kind
66:25 of hoping it was more just there will always be a socket
66:28 so that could easily mean that exactly what we were saying before where
66:33 they're getting rid of the 1155 tier could happen
66:36 although i'd yeah explain tears
66:40 so there's we used to have one socket guys remember we used to have lga 775
66:45 lga 771 which was server only
66:48 now it's just like a workstation and really really high-end enthusiast which
66:52 is 2011 tier and then like average consumer average gamer not even average
66:57 gamer pretty much every gamer which is 1155 tier
67:02 and you know what they've done that very gracefully because when they first introduced the
67:06 dual socket system
67:10 they launched the new processors on 1366 and for quite a while
67:14 if you didn't want to buy 1366 enthusiast class platform you were still
67:18 stuck with 775. then finally
67:21 1156 rolled out and kind of caught up to the point where
67:25 they were very close and then over the last almost what four
67:28 or five years now Intel has slowly
67:32 de-emphasized having the gamers and enthusiasts on that higher end platform
67:36 to the point where when's the last time you saw a gaming rig
67:39 that's not like just sort of a because i can rig with like a
67:43 six core but like a properly optimized gaming rig that's got a 2011 motherboard
67:47 in it uh no one really because everyone that i
67:50 know if they're building a 2011 system and they're a gamer it's also because
67:54 they're like a programmer or a systems guy or something where they want to run
67:59 vms that's the main reason why i actually see people running 2011 boards
68:03 is because they want to run vms uh because all the RAM all the
68:07 additional processing power threads everything is really really helpful for vms
68:12 but yeah pretty much anyone i know that's like yeah i'm a gamer it's just a
68:15 155 which means that that really common
68:18 socket is still under threat realistically because Intel
68:23 hasn't completely cleared it AMD was like sockets all the way and they
68:27 released this huge press thing about how uh all the rumors surrounding Intel and
68:31 all that kind of stuff they just didn't care and we're always going to support the do-it-yourself enthusiast which is
68:35 awesome that's really cool um but Intel is still even though they released a
68:40 statement saying that they're dedicated to sockets i think
68:43 they were dedicated sockets anyways because if you move away from sockets
68:46 the big server guys are not really going to be okay with that well
68:50 like at all so they're still definitely gonna when
68:54 you look at super computer projects like um crap what's that one that just rolled
68:58 out all those teslas and then tech did an article about it
69:01 i don't know the name i don't remember but they didn't constantly swap them they upgraded all their cpus at the same
69:06 time yeah they have like guys whose job it is to just like
69:10 mass socket swap cpus so like
69:13 they weren't gonna just ditch it and they're basically just saying yeah we're
69:17 not gonna just completely ditch it but no total promises on the whole
69:21 idea so they could still roll out the 1155 tier and go with vga
69:27 but i would argue AMD didn't have any choice but to say that
69:31 i mean you look at how they behaved like yes they could kind of go like
69:35 rah-rah-rah we support overclockers we have unlocked
69:38 cpus we have this we have that but
69:41 okay look it back when they were riding high they had one unlocked CPU it cost a
69:47 thousand dollars okay um
69:51 you look at how long it took them to roll out that unlocking all the way down
69:55 i think what was the original i think it was a phenom x4 we finally
70:00 got a black edition yeah or wasn't it an original phantom what were the original
70:03 phantoms was there a 940 black i'm not sure
70:08 i think there might have been a night for i can't remember i i'm sorry i can't
70:11 remember but it took quite a while until we got to
70:15 the point where anything other than the flagship whatever price that was coming
70:18 in at was unlocked to where now every fx is
70:22 unlocked down all the way down to like 100 and whatever dollars yeah but that's
70:25 also a bit of theme yeah but it's a theme that they had to
70:29 implement yeah they didn't have a choice so i mean it's all fine and good for
70:32 them to say you know rob we're supporting the socket we're supporting overclocking and
70:37 modding and all that but what else can they say at this point
70:40 well oh discussion topic though and this
70:44 was something that i tweeted about already uh do you know what an athlon mp is
70:49 no oh okay can i take my last bite first yeah okay
70:53 should i ask them probably guys can i can i just do this they they said no
71:01 my hair is like hovering blue that's kind of gross actually
71:04 no no no no no
71:08 no that's disgusting we're gonna eat
71:13 move oh my goodness i need toilet paper that's actually how did you even find my
71:18 hands no but how did you manage to get all of
71:21 that all over your hand as i put the wrap down in the plate that
71:25 already had the drippings from the last wrap i ate so the outside of it was covered in
71:29 grease you know like you just after you make it you flip it over and then it doesn't
71:33 drip out i have no idea what you're talking about
71:38 don't worry about it okay
71:41 so yeah we all know AMD's sort of you know
71:45 hard times right now and all that and like okay jumping back a little bit you
71:49 can say yeah they had to say that but they still said it you can't just
71:52 completely devalue something because you see that
71:56 it was necessary yes i can if i have like that axe to your throat and i say
72:00 tell me you think i'm like hot and sexy and awesome and funny
72:04 and you say that do i believe you um
72:08 no i would argue AMD has an axe to their throat right now
72:11 have you seen their stock price no i'm sure it's horrible they're going to
72:15 be a penny stock in no time so yeah
72:19 they're come on still they've been taking that angle before it isn't
72:24 exactly new and like you're saying that unlock processor thing but that was a
72:27 whole market slow movement
72:30 until it was pretty slow with that too yeah they were slow about it but they
72:34 were selling plenty of cpus at the time like they when Intel rolled out k series
72:39 they didn't have to right whereas when AMD was doing it they
72:43 had to so who do i trust more inherently here right but it's also been a really
72:47 really long time yeah it took a long time okay right
72:51 so the artificial locking of multipliers goes right way back to the barton days
72:55 that was when AMD started doing it in fact early 2500 pluses were unlocked and
72:59 later 2500 pluses weren't when i resold my original my first diy computer i
73:04 built for myself had a 2500 plus and when i sold it i actually got more than
73:08 i paid for it because it was an older unlocked one and AMD had started locking
73:13 multipliers so guys in case you don't know this locking the multiplier is an
73:16 artificial thing that's done it is a it is a product differentiation strategy
73:21 that is allows them to sell something for more when the product actually isn't
73:26 any different so they're both they both do it and there's a lot of stuff that's
73:29 like that things like cash your 3930k
73:33 has just as much cash on it as a 3970x
73:36 but they've turned off some of it or it was defective or whatever else
73:40 okay so so multiplier unlocking
73:44 here's another artificial limitation so any CPU these days whether it's from
73:48 Intel or AMD has um has all of the the key communication bus
73:54 built right into the CPU whether it's you know a front side bus or a hyper
73:57 transport or a qpi or whatever else so
74:01 what they've been doing since before my
74:04 day so a little bit before athlon xp
74:08 is they've been artificially limiting the ability for two sockets and a
74:12 motherboard to communicate with each other so great examples of this are
74:16 things like skull trail things like evga
74:19 sr2 and srx where the only cpus that
74:24 work in these configurations are xeons
74:28 or the only cpus that work in a dual CPU configuration are opterons
74:32 and you know what i think it's time for us all to just call bs on that because
74:36 there's so many applications that scale well with cores now and i'm not talking
74:40 games no gaming here but 3d rendering
74:43 video editing after effects all this kind of stuff scales incredibly
74:47 well of course we can build awesome multi-core cpus these days that
74:51 have great single threaded performance and
74:55 we've got both AMD and Intel basically giving us the old
74:59 you know it's the wrong finger but you get the point um if we actually want to
75:03 just take two cpus on the cheap throw them in a machine and go okay i
75:07 don't care about single thread performance that much i want two lower
75:10 clock cpus and i want them to just be like
75:14 wicked fast for some kind of maybe i want to run a bunch of virtual machines
75:18 yeah i was especially just saying dedicating an entire CPU to like two
75:21 virtual machines would be amazing we have desktop platforms now that are
75:25 capable of 64 gigs of RAM i was running that in the one behind you if i could
75:28 throw two cpus in there for a total of 12 cores or even two cheap quad cores
75:33 for a total of eight cores like freaking awesome right that's like
75:38 what's that like eight gigs of RAM per core that you could run virtual machines
75:42 on that would bring back a like
75:45 weird performance scramble that we haven't really seen in
75:49 in like custom computers in a really long time right okay so the athlon mp
75:54 was a cheapo athlon CPU not a server
75:57 grade CPU that would actually had like a cheapo dual socket platform remember
76:02 this is socket a that was capable of running two cpus i
76:06 remember seeing one in london drugs before i was into diy when i thought
76:11 shopping at london drugs was a good idea for computer stuff
76:14 and it was just it occurred to me the other day it's like
76:18 okay well tdps are going down so in terms of board design limitations
76:24 it shouldn't really be anything that complicated because we don't have to
76:27 deal with these hot hot cpus anymore um
76:31 core counts and single threaded performance continue to go up
76:35 why not enable this if AMD like okay AMD needs to sell cpus
76:40 to enthusiasts which they can't do right now they need to sell more cpus which
76:45 they can't do right now they need to gain back some mind share with something
76:49 other than an empty press release about you know something that they had to say
76:53 anyway because realistically what were they gonna do it's like oh we're
76:57 committed to the socket because that's on their road map probably because they
77:00 didn't think of it first and and wait AMD actually only said until 2014.
77:06 so there you go and 2014 is i think when that's when
77:10 piledriver is supposed to last hope so they haven't even committed an am4
77:14 socket or anything like that until do the same thing yeah so if they
77:19 wanted to basically go look we care about this again
77:23 give us a multi-processor capable desktop platform why
77:28 not i don't know because a phenom 2 or
77:32 an fx rather an fx8 series is good
77:35 enough for gaming and from a single core perspective
77:38 whereas like any affordable xeon is clocked at like two 2.3 gigahertz like
77:43 it's slow whereas you could overclock these things
77:46 because they're f x's i mean they tried to do this with four by four or whatever
77:50 that ended up getting called yeah i don't remember
77:53 um it was four by four at first that dual fx dual core thing yeah um
78:00 but in in that case they made the platform so expensive and like the cpus
78:04 were so power hungry and blah blah blah blah blah like make it a cheap chipset
78:08 cheap chipset let guys like ASUS Gigabyte MSI come to market with cheapo
78:12 motherboards that can take two sockets it's fast enough for gaming and you
78:16 would just have like horsepower to just
78:19 throw at whatever you could you could never slow down that system you throw a
78:23 couple ssds in there and raid you throw a couple like wicked graphics cards in
78:27 there there is nothing that system couldn't do it would be a folding monster
78:31 i think i think the the reason why they don't is uh
78:35 maybe you get a rush in sales right away well it might hurt optron in the long
78:38 run but that's what i mean but then you've got that system that can do everything and you've got the problem
78:43 which we have right now we're already there oh i know but like we're already
78:46 there you would just make it worse though but at least they could sell two
78:49 cpus to every person who upgrades their computer instead of one right
78:54 we've got the problem where everyone is running a 260 or everyone is running an
78:58 8800 and they just don't care because it still runs everything like some guy
79:02 asked me i don't remember exactly what games he listed but he's like what
79:05 graphics card will run this this is this all fine i'm like
79:10 take your pick yeah whatever you want man i was like uh 260
79:14 because i know from personal experience because i used to run a 260. uh some guy
79:17 that comments on a lot of my stuff was named his graphics card and he's like
79:20 i've been running this forever and it runs everything and i'm like
79:24 yup like yeah good job but like
79:28 at the same time like okay cry engine three
79:32 ah i'm so excited for crying but the specs have been released i know what
79:35 about hardware sucks they do but everyone's like oh look at the minimum requirement it's not that high yeah but
79:39 realistically it's going to be trash okay absolutely
79:43 i mean have you run crisis one at minimum details it's horrible it looks
79:47 like halo one it's terrible and you still lag like crazy it doesn't
79:51 even matter like minimum spec
79:54 does not equate what you should actually be running at that's one thing i think
79:59 people don't really care about and what i love about that too this is the best
80:03 part is that the like the baller recommended spec
80:07 is maximum stuff which basically means
80:10 it doesn't exist because if there was something better they'd probably go with
80:14 that i think when crisis was released
80:17 it was uh and cryengine 3 is supposed to scale too right yes so if you throw in
80:22 like they're they're high-end performance ones they're like oh 680 or equivalent
80:26 um if you throw two in it's going to scale up so here guys this is what um this is
80:31 what crisis called for back when it was released so it asked for
80:37 ah minimum system requirements like a 6800
80:42 gt or greater 9800 pro it was asking for
80:46 which is like was not that great of a card back then and then recommended it
80:51 was asking for an 8 800 dts
80:55 640 which that would cry running that
80:58 game yes i had to get crushed i had 9800
81:02 gts running i had a Gigabyte 800 gts and i tried to run crisis and just
81:07 medium settings maybe not even anyway even on media and i was running 1080p so
81:12 on medium settings it like just boiled itself crashed so i am super hopeful no
81:18 crisis is free i mean people who are tweeting you they're like oh we saw the
81:21 crisis three specs and oh it doesn't look like it's gonna be oh yeah it's gonna be demanding
81:26 i'm super excited i can't wait until i need to upgrade that 480. and i love how
81:31 they have four different tiers it's like minimum something something like maximum
81:35 or and you're like even once you start getting into recommended it starts
81:39 asking for pretty good hardware so and
81:42 not to mention like there's going to be guys there's going to be mods for it in all likelihood if they're sticking to
81:47 what they said where it's going to be a proper pc title so yeah people are going
81:50 to find ways to amp up the textures and everything else well star citizen star
81:54 citizen so other servers modded all servers other games running the engine
81:58 could even bring more i mean remember this is just an FPS with some jungle or
82:02 something you want like a friggin universe running the engine you're
82:05 probably going to need some more horsepower well eve isn't that hard to run out of universe well yeah but it's
82:09 also not running cryengine 3. i agree
82:12 so and and i think the the action bits
82:16 i think the action bits of star citizen are going to be a little bit more intense than he played eve for years
82:22 yeah i believe we should all just yell at him he's good
82:26 he was good just because you can't handle it
82:33 rule you want he was good whatever man i've been thinking about
82:36 getting back into it oh no don't do it don't do it don't do it
82:40 no don't do it don't do it it's not worth it man you know you know
82:44 it's not worth it i know but i just you're gonna have a you're gonna have a
82:48 full-time job soon so
82:51 yeah okay we talked about Intel we talked
82:54 about the youtube layout um there was uh
82:58 ac ah wireless ac
83:01 so we were playing around with our first wireless ac
83:05 router and client in the tech tips lab today
83:09 and um well
83:12 how'd it go it's kind of terribly
83:16 yeah we tested a one Gigabyte file transfer
83:21 and it took uh
83:24 about thirty percent longer twenty percent longer took n plus a minute and
83:27 a half fourth and four fifty and four fifty
83:31 yeah okay yeah and four fifty it took a minute and a half on the same router on
83:34 the ac router yeah and then on ac it
83:37 took two minutes
83:41 it was like 158 or 159 or something like that so
83:45 this was an ac router that was 1200 ac 450n yeah
83:50 so in theory it should have been three times faster but we were using
83:55 what was our actual dongle 1200 or something right
83:58 so in theory 1200 so it should have been on three times faster almost oh yeah
84:04 almost almost two and a half times faster yeah um so that was not our
84:08 experience with it um so i guess the real question is is now
84:12 the time to upgrade to an ac router because bearing in mind that ac router
84:17 with maybe better clients are coming that will support like more clients are
84:21 coming because right now you almost can't buy anything with ac there's like some media bridges there's this one usb
84:27 adapter and that's another funny thing is like
84:30 pop quiz what is the maximum throughput of usb 2.
84:38 uh you don't remember do you is it 480 yeah 480 megabit per second so if i'm
84:43 going to be like yeah wireless ac i didn't realize you were asking me yeah
84:47 then you doesn't matter yeah ac 1200 megabit per second on a usb adapter
84:54 because it came with usb 2 which was just flabbergasting like
84:59 so so okay so like real clients i mean that might have been the problem i don't
85:03 know i don't think it was but i usually don't i don't it was slower it doesn't really
85:08 make any sense but there's a lot of overhead still yeah slower by 30 seconds on a scale of
85:13 two minutes okay that's pretty bad
85:16 okay um so so right better clients are probably
85:21 coming more clients are probably coming the router's obviously not crap because
85:24 those are pretty good end speeds if i recall correctly
85:27 um but
85:31 is right is now the time to upgrade because you can still get an ac router
85:35 that is a good an access point so if you're buying a new router today
85:41 do you buy ac personally no okay why
85:44 ea 4500. i know i know i know i know you
85:48 love the ea for i love the ef 4500. everyone should love the a45 it's like
85:51 200 so my black friday sale it was like
85:55 140. was it really i was really tempted that's a really good deal i know you
85:59 already have a 35 i know
86:04 don't just buy extra routers i didn't how many times
86:10 he wanted to buy a new keyboard just to have one that's loud and one that's
86:13 quiet i'm probably still going to ah you're killing me here um
86:19 okay well what if your phone supported ac which it doesn't i mean hopefully
86:23 phones are coming soon but then what um i'd want to see the actual effect of
86:28 throughput because if it's kind of like what we saw in the office then no
86:32 i had an interesting conversation with linksys where they basically said that
86:37 uh there was one out of a big box chain i'm not gonna say who it was but it was
86:41 like future shop best buy staples like it was one of those guys out of one out of a big box chain there was one store
86:46 that had their their return rate for tablets was like one-third of all the
86:50 other stores and when asked how the heck are you
86:54 getting people to keep their tablets because it's big box people just buy
86:58 this stuff and they're like oh Android i can't figure it out they take it back right um they were like oh well when
87:02 people come back we just ask them when's the last time you updated your router
87:06 and when they upgrade to an m router they have a way better experience with
87:09 it they don't find it so slow and they end up keeping them and um
87:14 my response to that was my iphone 4 has wireless n
87:20 and when i actually just do like oh my battery ran out because you people
87:23 tweeted me too much when i actually do just like a raw file transfer it peaks
87:27 around one megabyte 1.2 megabytes per second have you tested your galaxy s3 uh
87:33 if i'm transferring to my computer i do it through a cable to through because
87:36 it's better for your battery to charge your phone through your computer not a wall plug so i always charge it to my
87:41 computer anyways okay okay then
87:44 so would you say okay well fine so so right so one
87:48 megabyte per second what's that translate to in
87:51 sort of mega bit yeah so that's about eight megabits
87:55 which means even after all the overhead there's really no reason why wireless g
87:59 shouldn't be fast enough for that and i mean we're
88:03 the tablets back the tablets that i'm talking about is from like a year and a
88:06 half ago two years ago or like whenever whenever uh tegra 2 launched yeah so
88:11 whenever that was a year ago whatever so something something ago
88:15 and um i would make the argument a couple of
88:18 things so number one is that wireless g should have been plenty fast number two
88:22 is that there shouldn't have really been any processor in any tablet at that time that was that much faster than what's in
88:27 here well okay um to add to this argument maybe that's why
88:31 uh maybe that's a huge part of the reason why wrt 54g lasted so long with
88:36 better firmware right with tomato because people could make it good enough
88:40 right that's fine and g has really really good range too i know g has
88:45 amazing range that's another thing about ac ac relies on five gigahertz which
88:49 means less interference but actually less range as well yeah yeah and i
88:52 already drop wireless in my house using wireless n all the time if uh if you can
88:57 get in range though then five gigahertz is like
89:01 primo absolutely primo but you can get five gigahertz in
89:05 yeah which is what i'm running at home right now right so so that's not a strong argument for ac
89:10 either um so anyway i would make the argument that if i can only do one megabyte per
89:15 second sustained throughput on this guy over wireless and this is like at a
89:19 reasonable distance from my access point like i'm not right next to it but i'm
89:22 also not eight rooms over either i don't think there's anything yet in a
89:27 mobile hand held that's more what three times faster than this
89:31 so that would give us maximum like three megabytes per second
89:35 throughput and if you're getting three megs per second on your phone and we're
89:38 not talking artificial speed test i'm talking i'm actually downloading a file
89:42 from my server to my phone on wi-fi i wish i wish i had
89:46 more because i can't even really say anything because i haven't done like
89:50 actual legit file transfers right and i haven't timed any downloads over lte but
89:55 i've had stuff come down pretty freaking fast let's have let's have people on uh
89:59 let's have people on twitter see if they just totally disagree with me
90:02 no one's talking about it oh we can this is a good this is a good
90:05 q a question but we'll cover that one after so okay i would make the argument
90:09 that wireless ac will do absolutely nothing for phones because wireless n
90:14 like like wireless n one one antenna is
90:17 already 150 megabit so even if your phone is three times faster than this
90:22 one that means still you're talking 25
90:25 megabit or so real world is all you really need wait were you doing a file
90:29 transfer from your own pc yeah okay from my home server i just not the bottleneck
90:33 i wanna i wanna actually try this maybe we should do a video on it sometimes
90:36 because i haven't tried it at all with my phone so i don't really wanna comment
90:39 so i don't know i don't know what's gonna drive ac adoption because what
90:43 seems to me that people complain about for wireless is mostly range
90:47 um reliability so ac will address some reliability but you could just as easily
90:51 do that with the five gigabytes wireless n oh yeah
90:54 um and range is not going to be helped by ac
90:58 um speed would be another one but based on
91:02 our experience it's not there yet in terms of like the hardware we're also in
91:06 like draft pre-draft range yes so
91:10 and i mean the chipsets run so hot and consume so much power it's gonna be a
91:13 while before we see it properly implemented on like ultrabooks and and
91:17 phones which are the most wi-fi reliant platforms yeah um i would argue that the
91:22 processor in your phone and sometime in the next it'll take what
91:26 maybe another three four five years before it even remotely requires ac
91:30 speeds um
91:33 i mean it's not usually my thing minus tech tips to be like yeah you really
91:37 don't need this yeah um but when it comes to but at the same
91:41 time okay yeah we have to be realistic about it yeah um ac maybe not but at the
91:46 same time i think it is realistic for people to look into options like ea 4500
91:50 instead of their like random green stripe
91:54 kind of trashy rotor that they just buy because they think it's going to do the job like there is legitimately way
92:00 better experiences than you're having right now right because i'm sure most of people watching
92:05 do not have something like an ea 4500 and slick's coming from a very heavy
92:08 usage household i mean if it's like two people then you know what
92:13 use the stupid wireless router that came with your with your modem because who cares yeah
92:17 but i mean how many people are in your house right now we've got four people all of which are gamers uh there's a lot
92:23 of file transfers that happen a lot of watching streams a lot of gaming a lot
92:27 of and on a residential just normal internet connection your router actually
92:31 makes a huge huge difference yeah so any multi multi-person household i could see
92:36 it making a big difference yeah you know what let's wrap up with a little q a i
92:39 actually didn't realize it's almost 11 o'clock so oh well like wow
92:44 um so great question from fade why is it better to charge your battery over you
92:48 well okay they're they're all over usb but why is it better to charge your battery from your computer versus from
92:52 the ac wall outlet when when you plug your phone into the
92:56 wall compared to when you plug it into a computer you might notice that charge is slower that's actually a good thing
93:01 because when you trickle charge something it keeps its total capacity
93:04 for a longer period of time so over a year your total capacity of your battery
93:08 is going to go down but if you trickle charge it say through a computer which
93:12 isn't exactly trickle charging but it's more trickle charging than plugging it into a wall slower yeah it'll hold that
93:17 total capacity at least better than when you plug it into a wall if you're
93:20 playing into a wall all the time it's just throwing so much power at it at all
93:24 points in time that your total capacity actually there's grass for it online you
93:27 can look this up will kind of be okay for a little while but then we'll tank
93:31 really really hard now modern batteries handle it better yep than older
93:35 batteries but it's still a factor and something else this is just my sort of
93:39 common sense alarm going off i don't know if there's any validity to this but
93:43 um okay think about think about the power
93:46 that's being delivered over this medium so for usb you've got it going through
93:51 so you've got your ac power which is going into hopefully a ups
93:55 but probably not but into a computer power supply which has very strict
93:59 regulations in terms of the uh the voltage fluctuations and all of that
94:03 which is then going through your motherboard which is regulating again
94:07 you're getting five volts come hell or high water
94:10 to that device which charges off five volts now whether you bought an iphone
94:14 or a cheapo phone or a samsung phone the reality of it is that little power brick
94:18 you have they optimized it for two things space savings and cost someone in
94:23 xinjiang china or somewhere is making that adapter
94:27 at a spec of space and cost and not necessarily at a spec of exactly the
94:32 right output voltage or no fluctuation whatsoever a power supply
94:36 is an incredibly complex piece of electronics and think about it why is it
94:42 that your power supply for your computer costs a hundred dollars and this thing
94:45 costs like you know 30 cents to make which one is giving you
94:50 cleaner power to your sensitive electronic device i would argue probably
94:53 the computer yeah so i don't know if there's any truth to that but it's just
94:57 sort of it's just probably
95:01 uh okay i have the apple aluminum keyboard
95:06 oh people buying multiple keyboards for their acoustics
95:11 ashley craddick is there any good aftermarket air
95:14 coolers for the 7970 core edition um
95:18 you know what i really just don't recommend aftermarket graphics card
95:21 coolers anymore i really i would just block it yeah get a water block or get a
95:26 good graphics card in the first place
95:29 um you should use your own router the extreme computing that's a decent writer
95:34 i hate that it's not possible to just a page and post something just by typing
95:38 something and it will automatically find the box
95:41 what what i hate that is not possible to just
95:47 um okay moving along yeah angel if you could only use one os would you stay
95:51 with Windows 7 or Windows 8. you know what we did an episode today that's going to be up hopefully soon where we
95:55 added the start menu to Windows 8 and i thought i didn't miss it and then i was
96:00 sure i missed it and then i thought maybe i could get used to not having it and then we put it in and i was like
96:04 yeah this helps Windows 8 is snappier it has more
96:09 up-to-date functionality like storage spaces it's quick it's just better
96:14 and then you add start menu to it and the the one on nine night.com you can
96:18 add the xp the vista or the classic
96:21 start menu to it and you can change all the options it's very customizable you
96:24 can go to like what is it what's a little button called view all options or something yes and you get like two
96:29 complete rows of tabs that are full of
96:32 like customization it's kind of amazing it's really good yeah it's awesome
96:36 um people who played crisis 3 alpha must
96:40 not tell you anything about it but if they were allowed 7970 ultra 27 but if
96:45 they are interesting interesting point xavier
96:50 he's saying he can't tell us anything about the FPS but if he could
96:54 then that would be very surprising right um zone rdx for 20 bucks
97:00 about a one millimeter gap from the graphics card fan i would recommend finding another slot if you can
97:05 i've been thinking about getting back into eve as well
97:08 guys don't do it yeah cds barlow don't do it don't do it
97:13 uh gaelic gelled wings are awesome i use those on my front radiator in my system
97:19 and they undervolt really well yes zach okay
97:23 fine last last conversation topic fan specs that matter okay so cfm and
97:28 static pressure these are both important things um noise these are important things but
97:34 for me those take a secondary role to how
97:38 gracefully they undervolt remember there's a lot more to a fan's noise
97:42 signature it's noise characteristics than just how much noise it makes on a
97:46 decibel meter okay
97:50 think about that for a minute because if there's like an ee
97:53 versus a which one's more annoying if there's
97:56 like a very obnoxious whereas if it's just a
98:00 low hum those can both read exactly the same on a sound meter
98:05 but in actuality some of them are much more annoying than others that's why i'm
98:10 kind of a really big fan of chisel typhoons air
98:14 penetrators are good too i'm not yeah did you ever try your penetration no i did i did i really like them um
98:19 f series knocked up they're also very good yellowed wings i
98:22 cannot stand the beige and brown i love Noctua and like
98:28 nhd14s i put them in so many systems but then they're just
98:32 ah why are you beijing brown like they look okay in c70s because they give it
98:36 like a weird military camo kind of look and it's kind of cool
98:39 but other than that it's just like oh this is their old color scheme it
98:44 actually wasn't quite as bad that's not nearly as big this is uh this is from
98:48 back when their first heatsink launched before they even had a pressure fan so
98:52 it's more of a white and it's a darker brown whereas now it's kind of a ready
98:56 brown yeah and it's like it's like a kind of weirder beige too yeah yeah
99:00 they've actually done quite a few revisions on the colors i've seen them over the years they've changed a fair
99:04 bit but like air penetrators gentle typhoons all these like the sound that
99:08 you get from them even if it's even if it's a little bit loud like if you're
99:12 running some fast ones and you're not downvolting them or anything um
99:17 it's just like a whooshy air sound yeah like you
99:20 just kind of hear the airflow you don't necessarily hear a ticking or a buzz or
99:23 anything like that which is great and a lot of people ask me about like oh
99:27 what's a good fan to buy this one's got really good pressure or whatever it is
99:30 Linus i see you never recommend this fan but it's got really good specs it performs really good usually um you know
99:36 i take sort of if i don't have anything nice to say i don't really say anything
99:39 at all approach about products um so if you see me recommending gelid wings
99:44 gentle typhoons air penetrators and what
99:48 was the last one i like oh right Noctua f series
99:51 if you see me recommending those just buy them
99:55 don't ask me if this other one is good because i'm going to be like it's okay
99:59 because it is it's probably fine it's a fan i mean it's a motor and like blades
100:03 and it moves air i mean it's not like rocket science
100:06 but there's usually a reason that i'm recommending a specific fan over
100:11 something else and i'm not okay i need to like make sure i'm not trashing on
100:15 noctu at all i love their fans i'm just not a huge fan of the uh
100:23 i'm not a huge fan of the color scheme that's all other than that they're absolutely amazing i mean some fans
100:28 really good specs really good noise um you know really good pressure
100:33 don't undervolt gracefully so what that means is they'll have some ticking or
100:37 some buzzing or some pwm noise ah that's
100:41 one sometimes fans if you control them with pwm they just
100:45 crap the bed and they hate it and they'll make whining noises like coil
100:49 wine so guys the fans i recommend
100:53 just buy them and be happy don't ask me about other ones
100:57 i think that's pretty much it thank you for the live tuning in tonight
101:01 look at that we i think we had 2 200 people at the peak tonight yes that's
101:05 very good i think that's is that a best i think that's a tie for the first time
101:08 i came on so what you're gonna just give all the credit to yourself now
101:12 no do i need to remind you this is called the Linus tech channel i was
101:16 using that as like a point in time how else am i supposed to suppose you're
101:20 fired that's three times he's so fired i think
101:23 that's four i don't know there's one one on the stairway yeah and then there's
101:27 one when we first started live stream and then no i fired you twice in the
101:30 last like 30 seconds oh yeah i don't remember they were separate they were
101:33 discreet firings okay so yeah four times all right actually
101:38 there's one more twitter question that i liked here i do have a 480
101:41 that was the one christopher really yes lick has a 480 yeah i have a 40. okay
101:45 c70 or half that go half xp uh max payne 3 also has top products as
101:51 recommended okay older generation can still why would you even ask a question
101:55 like that which older generation graphics card can still run modern games
101:58 like battlefield 3 good ones
102:02 my uh my 260 before i got rid of it in battlefield 3 but
102:06 would kind of get upset at certain points in time
102:09 if i mailed you a 2600 pro and a 6600 gt
102:14 would you send me a random card in return i wouldn't be random but it'd be
102:17 something crappier than those for sure let's do that trade
102:21 i love that i don't even have to commit to what i'm gonna send him could AMD go
102:26 bankrupt uh they'd get bought yeah
102:31 uh well we went over quite a bit tonight what we want AMD to do yeah we talked a
102:35 lot about Intel last week so i want to upgrade from 1156 and i can't decide
102:39 between 1155 or fm2 get 11.55
102:44 if one person yawns you at all yeah i know i do that so much i
102:47 built my first machine when i was 12 around my age then okay oh no okay well
102:53 here we're gonna we're gonna wrap up with this careful
102:58 just get ready to close it
103:04 okay that's not too bad it's not too inappropriate all right
103:08 good night everybody bye guys
