0:13 of a problem for us so uh hopefully that's not going to be the case tonight

0:17 but uh We've we've repositioned the the microphone so the funny thing is

0:21 normally the complaint is always that the audio is too low but uh during the

0:26 the the pre-show people were saying no no it's too loud it's like okay okay

0:31 well apparently everyone's volume knob is broken because well the problem is

0:36 that everyone's volume knob ranges from everywhere from the bottom all the way

0:40 to the top so someone it's too loud

0:43 someone it's too quiet and there's nothing we can

0:48 do at all someone says they were kidding about

0:52 it being too loud so that's really not helpful yeah it's actually actually not

0:57 helpful because we actually have have had problems with audio before so guys

1:04 this is the new time for the live stream I'm actually going to go ahead and

1:09 launch the YouTube video that says hey hey we're live so you should probably

1:13 join and uh and and not be not watching

1:17 the live stream I have a feeling that we're not going to have a ton of viewers

1:20 live tonight just because I think people aren't going to be used to the new time

1:24 and we told everyone like super late

1:27 last night some people today yeah some

1:30 people today and we told everyone last week that it was going to be moving to

1:33 Monday but then there's a there's a very good reason we didn't move it to Monday

1:37 and it has to do with um like

1:44 gnomes what are you doing it's not

1:53 watch because what yeah oh there's an

1:57 ad oh this video might have played I guess

2:00 maybe yeah it must be over um so yeah we

2:04 we went with this time slot for a very good reason and the reason for that is

2:08 that because of the way that the Earth turns and because of where the

2:13 International Date Line is for some people when we live stream pretty much

2:17 no matter what it's going to be tomorrow and so if it's if it's a Monday and it

2:22 lands on someone's tomorrow morning then while we understand that it's not

2:26 perfect for everyone in Australia and Asia to have it in the morning we

2:30 figured a Saturday morning is probably better odds wise than any other day of

2:36 the week in the morning and then the reason that we're still on for Friday

2:40 night is that um it was really challenging for a lot of people to stay

2:45 up late in Europe when it was on like a

2:49 Monday night and they had to go to work on a Tuesday for example and I know not everyone works 9 to5 Monday to Friday

2:55 but we have to we had to do something and it couldn't stay where it was we

2:58 tried grabbing High possible percentages in every field and this is what we came

3:02 up with yeah it kind of had to be 400 p.m. it kind of had to be during the

3:06 week so it was what day during the week and if we had it the only day that had

3:10 actually had an advantage was Friday because all the other days you run into

3:13 the exact same problems and then Friday you have that slight advantage of some

3:17 people being on Saturday instead of some people being on during school or work at

3:22 like 9:00 a.m. on a Tuesday Wednesday Thursday you know what the irony of it

3:25 is is that probably one of the worst time zones for this slot is our

3:31 yep so I had uh I had Tim from Timmy

3:34 tech TV Who's down in Seattle uh he works at Microsoft he has his own

3:38 YouTube channel and he was like um

3:43 guys yeah it's it's kind of like oh I'm

3:46 not going to be able to watch anymore well my my mom tries to be like over

3:52 what do you over supportive in like every possible thing ever and is just R

3:55 about everything which is awesome but she's like well I can't really watch it

3:59 any more and I'm like it's okay the

4:02 archive's there yeah don't worry Mom it's really all right it's like she she

4:08 she tries to contribute things that we might talk about stuff which she like I

4:12 don't know I love that she watches it but don't understand at the exact same

4:15 time because there's no way she understands like three cors what we're

4:19 talking about but yeah I mean she probably understands when we're talking

4:23 about like Harry Potter yep so and then

4:26 we talk about like 77 990 and we got torn part for talking about Harry Potter

4:31 because I gave away a bunch of spoilers and there were viewers that so we can't

4:34 talk about the things that she does understand the things your mom gets we're not talking about anymore I'm

4:39 sorry sorry slick um you know what why don't we

4:42 start with let's let's start with something pretty easy today why are they

4:47 putting the Star Wars films on a release schedule right once once every summer is

4:52 that it right once every summer once every summer that's insane that sketches

4:55 me out because stuff like like Harry Potter was on our leas schedule I

4:58 believe well release schedule is and Lord of the Rings was definitely on a

5:02 release schedule and The Hobbit is on a release schedule okay hold on hold on

5:06 hold on all of this was pre-filmed yeah

5:10 that's right yeah whereas they're setting like as far as I know I can't

5:14 imagine they've done any degree of planning for episode 10 I guess oh yeah

5:19 sounds like a good idea or episode seven rather pardon me like I it's like oh so

5:24 some ex like that's that's what this reeks of it's like what goes wrong with

5:30 actually here we should probably be we should probably be uh providing the link

5:34 so this was a link on the verge so we are not the source for this news so you

5:39 guys can check it out here but this really reeks of executive somewhere

5:44 making a decision that has no basis in reality this is like um like I look at

5:48 someone like Disney and I go yeah they've done so many good things with so

5:51 many good franchises I kind of had faith in them but I mean come on guys you

5:58 can't you can't rush the creative process like Who Who Are You

6:02 EA know it's early from my shot at EA we

6:06 we have to take our weekly shot just oh

6:09 bam it's like how's your nuts feeling from last week here let me give you

6:20 must have a new game I mean I mean that's what happens game like sports

6:25 games used to be good now what are they they're rehashes of the same damn thing

6:30 every time I mean is that what this is going to be it's bad decisions that get

6:33 made early on in the process that end up turning it into something unsustainable

6:38 I want more Blades of Steel and I I mean

6:42 I mean okay and another thing too is like look at how long it took to to make

6:47 the original Three which quite frankly they didn't they probably shouldn't have

6:51 taken quite that long but we're looking at the out Mark Hamill goes from like

6:56 like super hot youngster with really bad hair to like ugly old guy with good hair

7:02 and it's like he never he he never won he could never win how could how did he

7:06 stand a chance of being a heartrob are they going to do the same thing to a

7:10 whole new generation of stars well no apparently well no definitely not I mean

7:13 the only the problem is they're not going to age the next thing they have to

7:16 do to really sort of make me not even bother showing up at the movie is cast

7:20 sha buff oh God wasn't that awful in

7:31 I mean with that said the casting couldn't be much worse than it was for

7:34 the prequel trilogy so and I mean the

7:38 the word on the street sort of the rumors is that they're bringing together

7:41 a lot of the original cast to play you know parents and all that with some of

7:46 them yeah some of them are like I don't

7:49 really want to do this yeah but hopefully they can just throw enough

7:52 money at them that it actually won't matter it's Disney so I kind of see that

7:56 happening it's Disney and it's the Star Wars franchise I mean just on the basis

8:00 of the money they're going to be reaping from you know a new a new sort of

8:06 generation of Mark Hamill action

8:11 figures like if I was one of those guys that's holding out I'd be I'd be asking

8:15 for sort of a piece of some of the pie in some way as opposed to a lumpsum

8:19 amount but then if I'm Disney I'd be crazy to give them that so I'm sure

8:23 it'll all come down to the individual negotiating tables but I really hope

8:26 they'll find a way um cuz yeah I mean

8:30 you can bring back a series but if you bring it back and kill it yeah is Disney

8:35 they're doing pretty damn good with their action hero movies I know but they're okay tell me something though

8:40 did they put something like Spider-Man on a we have to release a new one every

8:43 year like what if they did that to

8:47 Batman oh man um I don't know I honestly

8:51 don't know because they've been doing the cartoon series for so long now okay

8:55 Star Wars whatever it's called I don't even know I've never seen it yeah I

8:58 don't know I saw the anime at Clone Wars movie it was terrible it was like the

9:01 worst thing I've ever seen was it was the cartoon one terrible I haven't seen

9:04 either I don't know why don't we you know what guys we're opening up the Twitter boards because let us know how

9:10 is the Star Wars animated series we'd love to hear your feedback and we're

9:58 if I ever actually did make my own channel would probably be something centered around gaming one of the big

10:02 reasons why we haven't done that yet is we haven't found an approach that we

10:05 find um we have time for we have time for is a big

10:10 one that's like reason a 100% of reason

10:14 this much of the reason yeah and then a little bit of the reason is we want we

10:18 if we did that we would want to have a unique angle and we don't know what our unique angle would be yeah I mean um and

10:24 the other thing is you know whatever he starts I'm going to want to cut a bit so

10:28 you know I think from his perspective going to start

10:31 anything he's going to be like oh you're starting something 90 99% 99% and uh oh

10:38 yeah that's on your own time so you know I'm not going to be paying you hourly

10:41 for it so don't worry about it um let's have a look and see if we've gotten any

12:20 to pull anything from that story line like are they going to take anyone from

12:23 that series and continue them working on the new series you know I really wish

12:27 okay here here's the way this is going to work anyone from Disney if you're

12:31 watching this is how you need to do it because I'm evidently an expert because

12:35 I wear a Star Wars shirt that looks super old if they are

12:41 licensing the No No it's like ironically retro see it's intentionally like broken

12:46 lame yeah I know I'm a I'm opposing um

12:49 if they're going to make this work on a one-year release schedule it has to be

12:53 expanded universe content where they're licensing they're licensing books

12:59 because otherwise to expect new creative

13:03 unique awesome like up to the level of the original movies Star Wars scripts on

13:08 a yearly basis plus execution on a yearly basis brutal what I'm worried

13:12 about is what you just said what are you basing it on like what are the stories

13:15 based on yeah what what what what is the one your timeline based on what is any

13:19 of this based on well because story writing takes so much time before you

13:22 can actually start production that's why I'm saying and are we going to end up

13:25 with a situation where it's like you have multiple teams working on it so

13:29 it's like a like it's a graphics card you know where you have a team working

13:33 on the one that's three generations from now and then by the time that's actually

13:38 released they're working on something that's going to be three generated like if you have like multiple teams are we

13:41 going to have like a b and c quality Star Wars movies yeah happening every

13:46 three years I don't know so I mean it I guess it depends how much many questions

13:51 all the questions and it like it seems unnecessary why do you need so many

13:55 movies most of the money from Star Wars comes from merchandise anyway

13:59 I mean just re-release the original trilogy in 4k and it's like I'd buy it

14:03 I'd buy it who cares yeah I don't have much money still buy it I'd still buy it

14:08 doesn't matter you know what they really need to do like if Disney was really

14:12 smart go for it I've got an idea to original not special edition Trilogy in

14:18 4k Han shoots first you know what he did

15:43 it's it's one of those things where it doesn't seem like as much of a problem

15:46 because obviously if you're looking up an article about Tomb Raider you know

15:50 tress effects hair effects or whatever else then you know what Tomb Raider

15:54 you're talking about but when we start to get into games that are are going to

15:58 be like the original release is going to be on the steam platform and then like

16:02 the later release is going to be on the steam platform they're just going to be

16:06 the same name next to each how are you supposed to well Tomb Raider one had a

16:11 suffix did it not I don't know I don't think so I

16:15 don't think anyone ever used it I think it did because with Tomb Raider you know

16:20 you know how they started doing that thing where like if you pre-order and then enough other people pre-order the

16:24 whole idea is that you share the fact that you can pre-order if you pre-order

16:27 and enough other people pre PR then you unlock prizes and there's three tiers of

16:31 prizes okay Tomb Raider was one of those and I think the first tier was you got

16:35 like Tomb Raider one and two for free okay like what I can't remember exactly

16:40 what it was maybe twitch chat will tell me hopefully twitch chat will tell me um

16:45 but yeah so like I think it had a suffix and like steam can deal with it they'll

16:50 have some backend naming convention that's different for them it might be

16:53 confusing in your games list but I mean just the year would be okay Tomb Raider

18:16 usage that most I could fit a Titan into that machine with like a justifiable

18:20 configuration so but then people would be like oh yeah it's a budget cuz

18:24 technically it is a budget yeah it's a budget you can have a million dollar

18:28 budget and it depends what you're trying to do

18:31 I mean if you want to you know if if by budget processor you mean you want to

18:35 play games on onboard Graphics I'll say get an APU if by budget processor you

18:40 mean you want to edit video with as low a budget as possible

18:44 I'd say get an FX 6300 if by budget

18:47 processor you mean you know whatever it is that you

18:51 happen to 850s do quite well at really low NVIDIA editing that's a $200 chip

18:56 though is that budget I don't know

22:21 louder it's noticeably louder Titan's very quiet one big thing is are you

22:25 running multiple screens but we're that's not audio but that well okay so

22:34 performance Delta yeah so for those of you who don't know 6 GTX 690 is a dual

22:39 680 card essentially dual GPU uh 4 gigs

22:43 of RAM two per GPU that's important later sorry pause for one quick second

23:12 of all right guys so we think we're live again frames encoded is going up and

23:17 Frames dropped is not going up so it looks like changing the router has not

23:22 helped um basically what's happening is

23:25 while we're streaming our internet connection is completely no it was me uh

23:30 is completely dying um for some

23:35 competely unknown reason that we have we

23:38 have to call our ISP because it's just kind of getting ridiculous yeah happens

23:42 like every week we've swapped the router there's literally nothing we can do

23:46 about it it doesn't happen at all if we're not streaming through twitch yep

23:50 and like we do stuff that's just as intensive on the network every single

23:54 day like uploading videos to YouTube we'll do a huge batch internet does not

23:57 go out and we'll do multiple at a time um which is nuts yeah so I mean this is

24:03 uh this is a this is a this is a problem um so anyway let's get back to our

24:07 discussion topic because I mean sure that's what people want us to do so 690

24:12 versus Titan uh less effective memory on the 690 because remember guys in SLI

24:18 Whatever video memory you have per GPU so if it's 4 gigs total that means you

24:23 have 2 gigs per GPU that's all you effectively have whereas a Titan has six

24:27 gigs of memory so when you're running at something like 4K resolution throw that

24:31 690 in the trash because it won't work well it'll work but unfortunately we

24:36 didn't have a 690 but if you check out some of the results from the Titan

24:40 testing that we did a while ago yeah um you can you can extrapolate from it

24:44 where the RAM actually helped a crazy amount yes so it's already helping even

24:49 at 1080P and 2560 x600 which means it

24:52 will help that much more when you get up to resolutions like 4K which is

24:59 so wher one of the moderators on the Forum is suggesting that it's possible

25:03 that our ISP is using qos to um or

25:08 something or something to throttle us when they see us hitting the the

25:13 connection really hard the way that we've been doing which might throttle

25:17 enough that kicks off the stream because

25:20 our internet connection isn't dying a lot of the time we're still on Skype

25:25 chat and still seeing twitch chat even though the stream is down and it's just

25:28 giving us messages that say frames dropped dropped dropped Dro dropped like

25:33 we're actually still connected because when we lose our internet connection

25:37 outright xplit completely cuts it off right so xplit is still on just

25:42 telling us we're dropping every frame which is like helpful but uh but anyway

25:48 hopefully 720p will fix the issue uh my laptop still doesn't have any internet

25:52 connectivity but we're back on okay so I I I give up on this discussion topic

25:57 because we're just going to have to move on but in short if you want to use if

26:00 you want to play at higher resolutions tomorrow get a Titan if you want to run

26:05 a higher frame rates today at lower resolutions then the 690 is still the

26:10 better solution compared to the Titan I'm really sorry for the technical

26:14 difficulties this week guys honestly there I this is beyond our control we've

26:18 done everything that we can do um sorry to interject is it ea4500 right yeah

26:23 it's still an the a4500 so it's a it's a high-end powerful router I really don't

26:27 think that's the issue uh so first time watching in Germany

28:37 was looking for a simpler one but that's before their their they threw in the

28:46 device you buy you are giving money to Microsoft and that is the way that it is

34:43 like wait what I know that's within dis manager but sometimes the the new dis

34:47 doesn't even show up in device manager so you have to refresh the list before

35:50 was so mad it took me probably 2 hours to get some Intel Nick driver working on

47:43 chips appropriately use a really good thermal adhesive uh for example the one

47:47 that's in my wife's computer I used not the ones that come on swiftex MC1 14s

47:54 but I used the ones that I bought after Market 3M thermal adhesive that's

47:59 balling and that's the only reason they don't come off also don't use little

48:03 tiny heat sinks unless you're planning to actually aim a fan at the GPU as well

48:07 use beefy heat sinks use awesome heat sinks like cut up old CPU heat sinks and

48:12 make the fins this long if it's on a vrm component if you do it properly it's

48:17 fine otherwise it's a bit of an issue yeah um so it's doable but it's sketchy

48:22 and be careful and be thorough so I got ahead of myself and uh I kind of thought

48:54 hurts I just had a headache so what we did was we took a 650ti boost

49:00 and pitted it against a 6 650ti boost overclock Edition from MSI and pitted

49:05 against a reference card from EVGA a 660

49:09 so two different gpus one is a step

49:13 behind but overclocked from the factory and one is a step ahead but not

49:17 overclocked from the factory and unlike how we do it at Linus Tech tips where we

49:21 just overclock everything this was ntx Tech tips so neither were overclocked by

49:25 us there was the one that was overclocked from the factory and the one that wasn't and the one that wasn't was

49:30 a 660 and the one that was was 660 Ti boost 650 TI boost sorry um we then

49:35 played what was it crisis 2 Far Cry 3 wi

49:40 and Witcher 2 um actually anyways I'm not going to get

49:44 into that because I'm not sure what I supposed to say about that um but yeah we did those three games and then pitted

49:49 them against each other and I don't even know what the result was which is one

49:53 reason why I have to interject because remember you're the only one that has the numbers for this okay well I'm

49:57 almost done my pickle you're still eating a pickle on the stream then

50:08 it was really interesting because I have a lot of people ask

50:11 me which you know 660 Ti should I get

50:15 and the answer is unless you're buying the cheapest one get a

50:20 670 okay which 650 TI boost should I get

50:24 the cheapest one or get a 660

50:28 because even though the 650 TI was overclocked from the factory our 660 or

50:33 did I say 6 even though the see this is so confusing even though the 650 TI

50:38 boost was overclocked from the factory our 660 vanilla reference bone stock

50:45 card outperformed it by 10% while being only 10 bucks more expensive so that's a

50:49 5% difference in price for a 10% difference in performance now here's

50:54 something that you guys need to understand about over clocking Headroom

50:58 reference cards versus non-reference cards sometimes a reference card will

51:02 have X amount of overclocking Headroom over the stock reference clock and then

51:06 a non-reference card will have y amount of overclocking Headroom but it's not

51:11 like overclocks three times as much it doesn't work that way it's it's a GPU

51:16 limitation so if it overclocks a little bit more then it might get a slightly

51:19 higher you know Factory clock but that ceiling is still pretty close so that

51:25 reference card hasn't been overclocked yet meaning that

51:31 okay so we got our 65 like let's say the Gap is like this and our 650 TI boost

51:36 makes it to here because it has a factory overclock but there's still a 10% Delta okay that doesn't mean that

51:42 both of these cards can still overclock this much and the difference will always

51:45 be like that this one has had some of its overclocking Headroom used up so it

51:50 might make it this much further whereas this has used no overclocking Headroom

51:54 it can go this much further but maybe not quite this much further so that

51:59 difference in performance I know this isn't a very good visual but the point

52:02 is that you have a certain amount of overclocking head room if they use it up

52:06 at the factory they used it up at the factory it's not like you couldn't have

52:11 taken a reference card and overclocked it to where that factory OC card is

52:15 sometimes there is a binning process something like an EVGA classified card

52:19 something like an a Seuss Aries level card something like an Rog card Matrix

52:25 card they are binning those they are making sure that those are the

52:28 most overclockable gpus our Matrix 7970

52:32 was a beast destroyed everything single

52:36 GPU that we've seen to date other than the Titan absolute Beast so unless but

52:42 these mildly overclocked cards you know like a superclock or a superclock plus I

52:47 would be looking more into other things if you're getting a aftermarket cooler instead of a reference cooler like audio

52:51 levels um you might get better temperatures if you specifically really

52:55 really want low temperatures um looks looks stuff like that so if

53:00 those are your factors then okay by all means look at a lower tier card that has

53:05 other features that you appreciate maybe you want different connectors on the

53:08 back yeah this is something to consider but if you're thinking gaming

53:12 performance buy a better

53:15 card that's it same thing for dual GPU

53:19 buy a better card overclock it yourself two 650 TI boosts or a single 670 buy a

53:23 670 single GPU card

53:27 and buy the best GPU you can

53:31 afford so there that was my lecture on that there's there's weird kind of

53:35 there's exceptions there's exceptions to the rule like uh 660ti Hawk from Power

53:41 Edition from MSI when that first released was a better deal than a 670

53:45 but then now things have changed BL now it's been nerfed a little bit so yeah um

53:51 but like yeah there's slight exceptions to the rule but that's usually just kind of how it goes and there are other

53:55 exceptions to the rule so some such as 670 versus 680 a factory overclocked 670

54:00 can get pretty darn close to 680 performance 680 does cost a lot more in

54:04 a lot of cases especially once you get up to the higher tier cards The Rules

54:08 start to change so usually the best bang

54:11 for the buck well the best Extreme Performance bang for the buck is the

54:16 second one down so as long as it's based on the same GPU as the high-end one a

54:20 lot of the time you'll get very similar frequencies but it'll have some uh some

54:24 Cuda cor some SMX unit some stream processors whatever they

54:29 happen to be called it'll have some disabled so it'll be slightly lower performance but it'll be darn close as

54:33 long as you've got enough vram then it's often better to go with that option

54:37 versus the higher end card but I still wouldn't spend

54:42 $400 on you know a 660 Ti if that'll get

54:46 me a 670 no matter what no matter how OC and like you know

54:53 Uber it is the only thing I would worry about at that point is like uh what I'm

54:57 doing with my build but if I'm buying a $400 card I'm hoping on water cooling

55:00 yeah yeah I okay water cooling is another one because then that won't show

55:04 the if I don't like a reference cooler that won't show the reference cooler

55:09 certain reference coolers like the Titan I kind of want to leave that cuz that

55:13 reference cooler is just so cool like I don't want to change the reference

56:34 time V bulletin started to get a little bit more efficient um ncx moved a lot of

56:39 their operation okay well it crashed fine so it looks like it can only handle

56:43 so much so um it's holding oh it made it

56:47 okay NC moved part of their operation to the place where we were hosting it and

56:50 they had to throttle our internet connection so we only had what 25 megabit up so now we have about 800

56:57 megabit up and instead of the homemade

57:00 server that we were using before 1,400 users online thanks guys

57:10 um what was I even saying I can't believe that page even

57:15 refreshed um damn okay I got to do a shout out thank you mod team in general

60:39 it's not nearly efficient enough and our old server couldn't our old CPU used to

60:43 max out at 100% CPU load at times during the day with like 300 people on with

60:49 like 300 people on whereas now we have 1,700 people on and I think you said we

60:52 had 300 people on before and it was like 3% CPU yeah just doesn't care it's just

63:07 upcoming Haswell CPUs um and ASUS motherboards that'll go with them and

63:21 got here Ryan and he's like dude I'm trying to write an article I'm like yeah

63:49 sides of how there was so much more visual tearing in the release driver and

63:54 then the Prototype driver guys this prototyp type driver is probably 6 to 10

63:58 weeks from an actual release it's not the beta drivers it is not the currently

64:03 downloadable data drivers no it is a prototype it's a completely different

64:07 thing it's not even based on the current 13.5 it's based on an older like 12

64:12 point something driver if I recall correctly I don't know that but it's

64:16 based on an old ass driver and um I

64:19 meant I yeah I wasn't saying you're wrong I was I have no information yeah

64:23 no so it's based on an old driver but it

64:26 is addressing the um the frame time

64:30 differences which can cause AMD Crossfire solutions to have high frame

64:36 rates but choppy actual perceived

64:39 performance that's what it's causing right now and this prototype driver

64:44 hasn't made it as good as NVIDIA's solution yet because NVIDIA has Hardware

64:48 that takes care of this but it's a software fix that makes it look way

64:53 better so it's basically taking games that are already optimized for the card

64:57 on crappier older drivers not crappier but you know older less optimized

65:02 drivers throwing in this Frame time smoothing algorithm and bringing it up

65:07 to 20% better than a much newer much more optimized per game Driver so the

65:11 future is bright for Crossfire owners however his conclusion in the review

65:16 which is what I think he was writing when I was standing over him was okay

65:21 that still doesn't mean I can recommend the 7990 cuz it comes with a butt ton of

65:24 games and this is all good eight GES but the gaming experience today what you get

65:29 for $1,000 today is not what this

65:32 prototype driver is that won't be available for a while and when the

65:36 driver comes with the fix we'll look at it again but it's not there yet and I

65:41 think that's a very fair and honest conclusion so um anyway it was it was

65:45 cool to sort of stand over him and have him explain in person it's one thing to

65:48 read a review from a from you know a highly technical author it's another to

65:52 sit next to them while they're writing the article and have them explain their thoughts processes every word goes onto
