0:00 Google Home Max, latest hell, one plus.
0:06 No way!
0:08 They're finally here!
0:09 I thought Anthony was just throwing money away
0:12 buying graphics cards on AliExpress.
0:15 Let's go check these things out
0:18 after I tell you about today's sponsor.
0:20 be quiet!'s Dark Rock 4 and Pro 4 near-silent air coolers
0:24 feature wave-contoured cooling fins
0:26 and easy top-mounted installation.
0:28 Learn more through the links below.
0:39 Okay, so apparently what we think we ordered
0:42 is an ELSA GTX 1080 and a MacSun GTX 1060 5 gig.
0:53 And this is what we've got.
0:56 So why don't we start with the one that has no box?
0:59 So we've got ELSA on here.
1:01 That's actually like molded.
1:05 So, you know, presumably there's some kind of volume
1:07 to this production.
1:09 And then it's got a sticker on the fan that says de Broglie?
1:13 I don't know what de Broglie is.
1:14 But it doesn't sound very good.
1:17 The board feels pretty heavy.
1:18 It's got a lot of memory chips back here.
1:20 So this seems somewhat credible,
1:23 but there's no recognizable part number anywhere on it.
1:30 It's got what looks like a serial
1:33 and then a warranty void by a tear or damage.
1:36 And that's about it.
1:37 I gotta say though,
1:38 this shroud is sketching me out a little bit.
1:41 I haven't seen many 1080s that are that, sort of, cheap.
1:44 Sort of cheaply constructed.
1:46 All right, so we know already that this one
1:48 doesn't have five gigs of memory
1:50 because NVIDIA doesn't make a GTX 1060
1:55 with five gigs of memory.
1:56 This is a funny thing for me.
1:57 So Mac's son is using a really cheap heat sink design
2:02 on this thing.
2:03 Holy crow.
2:05 I haven't seen something like this on a card
2:08 above the like $100 price point in my memory.
2:13 So you see, even though it has
2:14 all of these aluminum fins,
2:16 this is just a, what is it?
2:19 Like a cast design.
2:21 I'm gonna check with Alex.
2:23 Would this be cast aluminum?
2:25 You see how the fins don't go all the way through?
2:27 Actually, no, this was extruded.
2:29 Extruded.
2:30 Okay, so his theory is that it's actually extruded
2:33 and that makes a ton of sense
2:34 because then they just have this profile
2:37 and they'd have the aluminum just kind of push through it.
2:39 And then they could just slice off heat sinks like this.
2:42 And then it's very little work to create,
2:44 these little slices for air to pass through.
2:46 And then these little spots where they can throw in
2:49 a couple of heat pipes.
2:50 This is a very inefficient way of cooling
2:53 versus having fins that actually pass all the way through,
2:56 so you've got a lot more airflow.
2:58 There's nothing really else about it
2:59 that sets off warning bells
3:02 other than the plastic back plate,
3:05 which will obviously not only serve no purpose for cooling
3:08 cause even metal ones don't do that,
3:10 but actually could make it worse.
3:12 Holy crap.
3:13 Holy crap.
3:14 This might actually have five gigs of RAM.
3:16 What is a 160 bit bus?
3:19 Am I mistaken?
3:20 Is there a five gig that like,
3:22 look, you know what?
3:23 Let's just, all right.
3:24 So we've got benchmarks run
3:26 for our reference Founders Edition GTX 1080 already,
3:30 which means we can go ahead,
3:31 pull that puppy off the bench here
3:35 and throw on the Elsa de Broglie.
3:40 How much less did we actually pay?
3:42 I thought the idea was we were supposed to find things
3:44 that were like cheap.
3:46 Okay.
3:47 So 720 US for the 1080?
3:50 325 US for the 1060.
3:52 Okay.
3:53 They've got some kind of tape over the SLI fingers.
3:57 Why would they do that?
3:59 And not like a temporary looking tape.
4:01 Like this doesn't look like it's intended to be taken off.
4:04 These little heat sink fins on the back
4:07 don't actually appear to be like attached
4:11 to this aluminum plate in any meaningful way.
4:14 So I don't know.
4:14 I doubt sincerely
4:15 that they're really doing anything for cooling.
4:18 It does show up as a GTX 1080.
4:21 Benchmarks almost done.
4:22 And honestly, everything here is looking pretty good so far.
4:26 We haven't like power throttled or anything like that.
4:30 So 6551, average FPS of 49.
4:37 How does that compare to our Founders Edition, Anthony?
4:40 Our Founders Edition did 6576.
4:44 Okay.
4:45 So this one is bang on.
4:49 That's actually pretty cool
4:51 because compared to the overpriced mining cards
4:54 that were available at the time,
4:56 even though we did pay a lot of money for this thing
4:58 and getting a warranty for it
5:00 would probably be a pretty sketchy ordeal,
5:04 we at least did save a significant amount of money.
5:08 Spoil it for me.
5:09 Was there anything I was supposed to notice
5:10 that was bad about this one?
5:12 That shroud is for a GTX 980 Ti.
5:13 That shroud is for a GTX 980 Ti.
5:14 That shroud is for a GTX 980 Ti.
5:15 Not a 1080.
5:19 Did they reuse the PCB as well?
5:22 The PCB is for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition.
5:28 But then they're just using a 980 Ti shroud on it.
5:31 Yeah.
5:32 Okay.
5:33 There are model numbers on the back
5:34 that coincide with an Apple Mac Pro GeForce 7300 GT.
5:41 So it's not like it's not a little sketchy,
5:44 but by and large, we got what we paid for.
5:47 I consider that one a success.
5:49 All right.
5:51 This one, oops.
5:55 I am not quite as hopeful about.
5:58 These fans are exactly as cheap as the heatsink.
6:01 Oh, wait, hold on.
6:02 Maybe they're not at,
6:03 no, they're not as bad as I thought it, ow, ow.
6:07 Okay, you stop that.
6:09 This isn't like an AMD card or something, is it?
6:11 Okay, no, no, don't tell me, don't tell me.
6:13 Well, I'm not sure if I'm expecting it,
6:15 but we should see performance similar to a GTX 980 Ti.
6:20 This is a 1060.
6:21 Frame rates look like about what I would expect
6:24 from a 1060.
6:24 Let's see what it is.
6:26 It's actually showing up as 1065 gig
6:30 with memory running at four gigahertz.
6:32 So that would be eight effective.
6:35 So at 3532, that's about 300 points less
6:40 than we got with our Founder's Edition 1060,
6:44 but every piece of data we can find seems to confirm
6:49 that this is in fact a five gig card.
6:54 So those of you who have heard us rant on,
6:59 what was it?
7:00 The 1070 Ti video and at various points on the WAN Show,
7:03 we'll be aware of how we feel around here
7:06 about manufacturers saying, this is a 1060.
7:09 It's got six gigs of RAM.
7:10 And this is a 1063 gig, but oh, by the way,
7:13 it's actually also cut down in some ways.
7:15 We don't like it,
7:16 but apparently they're screwing around with this even more.
7:19 And more in other regions?
7:22 Okay, so after some digging,
7:24 what it looks like happened here is NVIDIA
7:27 actually released a China specific five gig version
7:31 of the 1060 with the only difference,
7:34 same number of CUDA cores,
7:35 with the only difference being the bus width
7:38 and the amount of memory.
7:39 So it performs as we saw fairly similarly
7:42 to a regular 1060,
7:44 but what with the whole global DRAM shortage and all that,
7:48 it comes in at a,
7:49 a lower price and it is intended for internet cafes.
7:54 So this card ended up accidentally on purpose
7:59 on a marketplace,
8:00 but it was actually for OEM sales only
8:04 to these kinds of LAN cafes
8:05 that are much more popular over there
8:07 than they are over here.
8:09 So once again, we actually got an okay value
8:14 and the product itself was legit.
8:17 So buying GPUs on AliExpress,
8:19 good idea, bad idea,
8:22 we're still not quite sure,
8:23 but it's,
8:26 it's not obviously a complete scam.
8:30 So that's actually better than I was expecting
8:32 to be perfectly honest with you.

9:31 Also down there is our merch store, which has cool shirts like this one and our community forum, which you should totally join
9:37 Well, that was fun. Now. We've got a couple graphics cards that we bought that we don't need
9:42 So we'll probably have like an eBay or a Craigslist link under the video at the end here
9:46 If anyone actually wants it
9:47 I'll give you a free copy of the 5 gig 1060 or 1080
9:51 Presumably you'll get no warranty coverage whatsoever. So, you know, the thing about mystery meat is it tastes best with a grain of salt
