0:00 maybe you love food but hate cooking or maybe you just suck at cooking maybe
0:05 you're like me I love cooking but I rarely have time to sit around and nurse
0:10 some of the foods that I like to prepare for myself to eat which can result in
0:13 more fast food junk food and paying for
0:17 late night pizza deliveries in my pajamas while waiting to respawn so how
0:21 do we solve this problem science of course all we need is a little bit of
0:26 water cooling a 1,100 WT heater a
0:29 brushless DC motor Bluetooth Wi-Fi and a neodium magnet this is SED
0:43 cooking tunnel bear is the simple VPN app that makes it easy to browse
0:47 privately and enjoy a more open internet to try tunnel bear for free check out
0:51 the link in the video description so the general idea behind
0:55 Su is that if you could control your cooking temperature very precisely and
1:00 very accurately while ensuring that the heat is applied evenly to the food all
1:05 while keeping all the juices herbs and spices contained well that would be
1:10 extremely beneficial if you like tasty food so the way that suied cookers also
1:15 known as immersion circulators accomplish these goals is pretty cool
1:19 they're submergible water circulators and heaters that keep a volume of water
1:24 within a reasonably sized container like a cooking pot at an exact predetermined
1:30 temperature then the idea is that you vacuum seal your food or put it in a
1:34 ziplock bag and squeeze the air out this
1:38 creates a barrier between the water and your food while still allowing for
1:42 adequate heat transfer what using one of these devices and achieving all of the
1:47 goals previously noted affords you is a more predictable and precise
1:52 mathematically enriched cooking experience traditional cooking methods
1:56 are heavily reliant on timing because the heat used is usually very high so
2:01 pulling what you're cooking away from the heat when it is at the correct
2:05 temperature to ensure that it isn't under or overdone can be as much of an
2:10 art as a science with Su you just put your food in a bag tell the cooker what
2:14 you plan to eat and how done you want it dunk your food in wait a set amount of
2:19 time or a little more if you're busy and then just put a sear on it to finish it
2:24 up and enhance the color texture and flavor what did you do at work today
2:28 John well I seear the chicken rest is an industrial heat gun so if you've made it
2:32 this far into the video and I know this isn't usually our thing so thank you
2:35 you're probably interested but unsure where to start there are a few solid
2:40 immersion circulators on the market currently but the one I have today is
2:44 the jewel by Chef steps a company backed by the one and only Gabe Newell whose
2:49 son took an interest in cooking after meeting Chef step's co-founders
2:52 hardware-wise the jeel is 11 in tall and only 1.85 in wide weighing in at only
2:58 1.2 28 lb it has 1,100 watts of heating
3:03 power and can maintain the temperature of up to 40ish L of water enough to
3:09 simultaneously cook enough steaks for a small freaking Army it even has an
3:14 impressive 01 de Celsius temperature
3:18 accuracy and I've tested that it's true
3:21 it does this by combining its impressive heater with a brushless DC motor and a
3:26 360° Inlet flute at the bottom to pull
3:29 in the coolest water for reheating for usability it features a neodium magnet
3:34 mount with about 6 lbs of holding Force so it's not easy to accidentally knock
3:38 over when paired with iron steel or other induction ready pots it's got a
3:43 simple clip on the back as well for other containers like Plastics and
3:46 whatnot and finally that brings us to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi which again brings
3:50 us to the software the app is arguably the best part and it features some
3:55 extremely important tools that chefsteps absolutely nailed the first of which is
4:00 visual dness so as you follow there many
4:03 interactive guides that ensure you're correctly compensating for meat type and
4:08 thickness you'll be presented with these awesome videos not only do they provide
4:13 funny yet insightful comments about the dness of your food but they even include
4:17 a video of someone cutting into said food after it has been cooked letting
4:22 you select a visual result for your meal before you even start brilliant this
4:27 works because the lower and more controlled cooking temperature allows
4:31 you to get every part of the meat even the center of the thickest sections to a
4:36 minimum temperature that will reflect that dness without overcooking anything
4:41 else this is kind of tricky with traditional cooking methods that can
4:44 leave thinner parts of the meats or parts closer to the surface overdone so
4:49 at the end of the day it's just math and Chef steps is doing it for you the
4:53 temperature you want your meat to be at when it's done corresponds to the dness
4:56 that you choose at the start then you pick the amount of time to cook for
5:00 based on the typee and the thickness of the meat in simple terms dness
5:04 determines temperature type and thickness determines time the app also
5:08 features a training wheels off manual mode that lets you pick your desired
5:12 temperature and time if you want to have some fun off the book there are many odd
5:17 things you can use the jewel to cook and of course there's also notifications
5:22 although I do have a pretty big gripe here it is truly a notification not an
5:28 alarm meaning that when my phone is muted which it essentially is always
5:33 muted I don't hear it it just vibrates
5:36 now in their defense this is a beta version and they could easily change
5:39 this with a software update and with suid it isn't as important to get your
5:44 food out of the cooker right on time their app literally tells you how long
5:48 you have to remove it which is often quite a while either way I would prefer
5:52 there was at least an option to make this notification act like an alarm so
5:56 you're hyped up you're ready to eat you're wondering what to buy I was there
6:00 on December 16th of 2015 I pre-ordered
6:04 The Jewel and as it goes with much pre-ordered hardware and the W show it
6:09 was far from on time in fact I don't even have it yet this is a beta version
6:14 that I got for review through work not the one that I bought personally I am
6:19 very happy with how well it works how easy it is to use and the quality and
6:24 feature list of the app and holy crap the food is amazing my girlfriend said
6:28 the steak that I made for her was the best she's ever had my dad was super
6:32 very much happy with the steak he had and I cooked chicken with it every other
6:36 night and it's been absolutely fantastic
6:40 wow nice this is like he went to a really
6:44 nice restaurant wow but I am a little
6:47 salty pun intended again that it's taking so damn long to get it into my
6:52 kitchen for good Dollar Shave Club as
6:55 you guys know they deliver great razors directly to your door and if you sign up
6:59 to day you get your first month of razors for free membership means that
7:04 you can afford to shave with a fresh blade anytime you want which is
7:08 fantastic as they just keep on supplying them to you you get a first class shave
7:13 when you use the executive blade and paired with Dr Carver's shave butter
7:17 which goes on smooth and clear you can make sure that you get the right lines
7:22 all along your luscious face but your
7:25 luscious face must be in the US Canada or Australia because that is where they
7:30 ship and if you interested go to
7:33 dollarshaveclub.com and give them a try for free all right guys if you liked
7:37 this video like it and get subscribed and maybe go get some food cuz you're
7:41 probably hungry if you dislike this video and you're like what the hell is
7:44 happening to Lion Tech tips I expected computer videos I didn't come here for
