0:00 Linus Tech tips coverage of E3 2014 is brought to you by hyperx Fury series
0:04 high performance ssds the Corsair Vengeance k70 and k90 RGB mechanical
0:09 keyboards and nc.com our trusted
0:12 retailer for high performance gaming PCs all right guys we're here at control VR
0:16 to check out easily the the most impressive demo I've seen at any
0:20 convention so far if I can stroke your ego a little bit more uh with the CEO so
0:25 what H how does this work so uh what
0:28 what control VR is doing doing is we are providing uh users of virtual reality
0:33 such as Oculus the opportunity to put their hands in the game which is
0:38 something that has never been done before and it's really solving the
0:41 biggest issue that's been facing the the VR industry which is you know it's one
0:45 thing to be able to see an environment in 3D but how does one then see himself
0:49 in that experience and once you try it uh it really is hard to go back without
0:54 it and so uh the way it works is we're using uh a form of advanced wearable
1:00 technology and so these were uh tiny little sensors that were originally
1:04 developed for military applications that over time we've been able to uh adapt
1:09 and shrink the size down where we can place sensors on each of your fingers uh
1:13 and have complicated uh algorithms that basically are able to then create a
1:18 language that sends back to your operating system exactly how your
1:22 fingers are moving and it's a real real achievement it's it's it's completely
1:27 surreal because there there's a few things out right now where you can get like your ARM moving but it's usually
1:33 very not very well synced and your fingers aren't going to move with it and all that kind of stuff and when you put
1:37 this thing on and you get the Oculus on and the first thing you do is lift your
1:41 hand up and start wiggling your fingers that's the weirdest thing ever and it it
1:45 feels amazing uh what what can we see coming from you guys in the future sure
1:50 so where we're at right now you can you can get the development kit on Kickstarter uh it's going to be running
1:54 for uh another couple weeks and then
1:57 what you can expect from us in the future is to uh get a great SDK we want
2:02 to provide our community the best tools possible so that they can go and create
2:07 the applications that really speak to them you know we're very passionate
2:11 about this technology and about the potential for really changing the world
2:14 with it because it it starts with gaming but also then you know goes into
2:18 Physical Therapy applications potentially um robotics you know there's
2:22 there's really a lot of different applications for this so what you can expect from us is to get a quality
2:27 product uh with an easy to use SDK and then from there you know we've already
2:31 begun working on uh you know the uh plans for the commercial product and
2:35 what you can expect in the future as a commercial product is you know we're
2:38 going to offer a wireless solution for this and then uh I think the the thing
2:43 that we're most excited about is the incorporation of feedback into into the
2:47 system and so um when you think about uh
2:51 having a controller for virtual reality you want to be able to also experience
2:55 that that sensation when you reach out and touch something that you're touching
2:58 it so uh the real huge hurdle has been
3:01 what we've accomplished now and uh you know including a feedback system
3:06 something we're already working on and is something that uh in in comparison is
3:10 is not nearly as complicated so we're excited to provide that uh as soon as we
3:15 can and as soon as the product's ready and we feel like it's ready for Consumer
3:18 Market where we just want to get it out there as quick as possible and that's
3:21 that's really important and being able to link that together you guys are going to have an SDK so being able to link
3:25 both of those together will be really helpful one really important thing about
3:29 immers is that all of your senses are immersed
3:33 and with oculus you only really get the one you only get Vision so being able to
3:37 pull in touch and movement is very important and something that a lot of
3:41 people don't necessarily understand yeah sure in a drive-in game if you have a
3:46 model whose hands are fixed to the wheel at all points in time and you have a
3:49 wheel in front of you it might work but there's not honestly that many
3:53 situations where that's perfect so it's nice to see you guys trying to tackle
3:56 two extremely important components of VR
4:00 so that people can actually get this experience what is your final vision for
4:04 VR in general the whole experience sure so you know the final vision is
4:09 something that uh I I can't even articulate because we don't know where it's going to go it's like sort of like
4:13 the Internet it's you know it's a very powerful thing that's out there and and
4:16 it'll evolve as people develop different applications for it so you know I
4:21 ultimately want to see this as a tool that improves the world uh and improves
4:25 communication I think it's going to be amazing for the classroom uh so the idea
4:29 of of a uh classroom full of you know 10-year-olds that are able to go to the
4:34 to the to the lou in Paris and be able to walk around and you know talk to each
4:38 other uh once you do social VR um it's
4:42 one of the most powerful experiences uh that you'll have because you realize
4:46 that we have a future ahead of us where we're going to be able to connect with
4:50 people that we usually would not be able to connect with in a real meaningful way
4:54 so ultimately I I I'm just excited to see where where the community takes it
4:58 for sure there's a there's a couple things in that I want to that I want to branch on one is being able to bring
5:02 this to the community is insane because of how much this is traditionally expensive this is an insanely expensive
5:07 device and the fact that you guys are getting it at a fairly affordable amount
5:11 is just nuts and then you brought up uh being able to go to the lou this might
5:15 make history class interesting that's that's probably the first time I've ever been able to say that like it's one of
5:20 the worst possible subjects in school and it's like wow I can actually go to
5:24 these different places and experience that in real life and the social
5:27 interaction that you were talking about the most insane experience I I've been
5:31 saying this is the the greatest demo ever but easily the greatest part of the
5:35 greatest demo ever was when I'm in this demo environment which is the space
5:39 environment which is like pretty cool but it's not the most compelling demo
5:42 ever and then you walk over and you see the other person that's in the demo and
5:46 you wave at them and they wave back and you're like oh that's so cool and you
5:50 see like the little micro movements cuz you just both got excited that's nuts
5:54 that instantly made that demo which is like kind of cool absolutely amazing and
5:58 when you get into things like if you saw the kickstarter demo when there's a bunch of people there and you're all
6:02 just like playing around with food throwing like pingpong balls around and
6:06 like just doing whatever that's crazy it's it's not necessarily about this
6:10 this testing environment which is essentially what it is it's about what
6:13 you do with the testing environment so that is super super cool how is someone
6:18 going to go about getting one of these like I know the kickstarter has 23 24
6:21 days or something whenever you guys see this might be different but like at what
6:24 tiers you going to be able to get different levels of this device sure so
6:28 the see the entry point is $10 in which case you get an SDK and it's going to
6:32 allow you as a developer to see how you could incorporate this and start
6:35 developing for uh for the platform uh you can get a one-ARM system for 350 and
6:40 then the complete experience is 600 for the full upper body motion capture with
6:45 your fingers which is absolutely unheard of you know and uh over time we're going
6:49 to continue to do everything we can to drive the uh the price of the system and
6:52 the sensors down and I think that uh the solution that we're providing is
6:57 something that uh is going to change your world so you know I think it
7:00 already did so well thank you and we want everyone to go out and you know
7:04 support the kickstarter and uh and help us you know realize this Vision that
7:08 that's being created and be a part of History that's fantastic if you're an indie developer that $10 SDK is really
7:12 not that hard to get into or if you're someone who just wants this like you
7:15 said there there's the one ARM experience there's the full body for 600
7:18 any of that kind of stuff that'll really help I'm super excited for this I think
7:22 we're going to have to sign off so I don't stay here for an hour um but
7:25 thanks again for showing us through that was absolutely fantastic thanks to
7:29 hyperx Corsair and ncx for sending us to this E3 like seriously we wouldn't I
7:34 wouldn't have been able to experience this awesome demo if it wasn't for them so thank you very much I'll see you guys
7:38 next time
