0:00 I'm Linus of Linus Tech tips as well as ncixcom and today I'm going to talk to
0:04 you a little bit about how I found my Niche on YouTube I'm actually back at
0:09 one of the places that I originally started really taking off with the whole
0:13 product unboxing thing this is a little uh Globe as well as uh behind me we've
0:18 got a little map of the world and uh I'm going to take you on a tour of my world
0:23 of product unboxings product showcases as well as short reviews so this next
0:29 little bit is about insight and search so basically early on most of my traffic
0:34 was driven by the YouTube search and I was able to use insight to find out well
0:39 which topics are people interested in and obviously the user views data
0:43 correlated with that and what I found
0:46 out is how to make my content more interesting so actually on this very set
0:51 location which is an outdoor unboxing location near our office I unboxed and
0:56 did a little product Showcase of a raid enclosure uh was for the cameraman's uh
1:01 video editing station it was totally not like I wasn't that interested in it
1:05 personally and what I discovered is that nobody cares whereas one of the other
1:10 videos that I did early on was actually at a desk in a dimly lit office and it
1:16 was some hot new video card that I was the first one to have an unboxing of and
1:22 you know I put all my tags in I uploaded the video and to this day it is one of
1:25 my highest viewed videos so what I discovered at that time was that for me
1:30 for product unboxings my big focuses need to be about powerful keywords in
1:35 the search because rate enclosure I mean what kind of Technology Enthusiast is
1:39 going to be searching for that there are a few but it's not really a very
1:42 mainstream topic versus hot new directx11 video card is going to
1:47 generate a lot more interest in terms of
1:50 search hits now back then everything used to be search driven and I actually
1:55 didn't do that many videos compared to what I do now now YouTube's blog post
1:59 which I've uh explains that if you have a release
2:02 schedule that's a great way to uh allow
2:05 your viewers to subscribe and know when you're going to have new content now
2:10 I've personally never been disciplined enough for that so my solution to that
2:14 problem has been just releasing a ton of content over the last 6 months or so I
2:18 actually average about 40 to 45 videos per month from my lonus tech tips
2:23 Channel and what that means is that a casual viewer is going to happen across
2:28 my videos quite often they're going to find out that I'm updating all the time
2:32 and then they're going to want to subscribe because that means that whenever they sit down for their nightly
2:36 routine at their computer they're going to have something to watch on the lineus
2:39 tech tips Channel and that's how I've been able to drive more subscribers to
2:43 my channel so that means that in contrast to the early days when I was
2:47 primarily search driven now I'm actually primarily subscriber driven with a lot
2:52 of related videos and that's tied into to the subscribers who are going to want
2:56 to watch my videos after they finish watching another one of my videos and
3:00 it's also related to the fact that I just have this huge Content Library
3:04 built up for my particular niche as a product unboxer there's going to be a
3:08 lot of stuff that I've done in the past that's very relevant to whatever I'm
3:11 looking at now so if I'm looking at the latest video card people are going to
3:14 want to compare it to last Generations video card so that's where I'm able to
3:18 generate a ton of views by just talking about the same sorts of things over
3:22 generations of product lines product unboxings it's not a perfect art so uh
3:29 you upload product unboxing you get a bunch of views you don't know what
3:32 people were interested in you don't know what they didn't care about did they
3:35 like the back of the box did they like the inside of the Box did they like the
3:40 when I turn the product around you can see it from the back hard to say so
3:43 hotspots allows me to find out which parts of the video my viewers are most
3:47 interested in so that in my future unboxings maybe next time I do a
3:50 motherboard I can look more closely at the things that people really wanted to
3:54 see the other thing that allows me to monitor what I'm doing right and what
3:58 I'm doing wrong is the subscriptions module so on a more macro level when I upload a
4:02 video and I try something new I can find out a couple days later well hey did I
4:07 lose a bunch of subscribers did I gain a bunch of subscribers what kind of an
4:10 overall impact did it have on my channel so thank you for checking out my little
4:14 video here for the YouTube Partner program thank you to YouTube for making
4:17 this possible and don't forget to subscribe to Linus Tech tips
