0:08 either way I think I'm getting a little bit more used to the routine I see
0:11 there's lots and lots of people joining us in the chat
0:16 already um actually not that many but we're starting so you know hopefully
0:20 more people will will tune in soon I've got a lot of really cool stuff to talk
0:24 about today and as usual we'll be doing a fair amount of Q&A mostly on Twitter

0:47 and you know what actually I've come up with another topic for tonight's live
0:51 stream and that is the fact that I absolutely hate hoot it's the stupidest
0:55 thing ever and I'm going to show you guys all the reasons I hate it and I
0:59 really hope someone from Twitter or hoot or someone who knows someone who knows

2:16 660 Ti which is also a perfectly good

2:28 yes doing oh yes right my YouTube video isn't even up yet so the YouTube viewers
2:33 haven't even had a chance to tune in because uh the first recording I did
2:37 like I do a recording and then I upload that to YouTube so that they can tune in
2:41 and then they can see the live stream but unfortunately the first one I
2:45 recorded didn't have any sound so I uploaded it and fortunately I realized
2:49 that it had no sound before anyone actually anyone actually looked at it um
2:56 and I I mean I know I have technical problems with my videos some sometimes
3:00 but um yeah I'm trying to avoid them trying
3:04 to avoid them as much as possible so let's see if uh I just want to make sure

3:50 NVIDIA's green light um I'd love to see

4:12 lonus you're live is the speed of your RAM important to overclocking no
4:16 generally speaking not really it's um
4:20 it's less of a factor now that we have unlocked processor so RAM didn't matter
4:25 back in the day when AMD had unlocked multipliers and then RAM mattered a lot
4:30 in the uh in the socket 478 days RAM was
4:34 everything getting high performance high frequency RAM was the only way you were
4:37 going to get the maximum overclock out of your CPU and then both Intel and AMD now have
4:43 unlocked processors so you actually don't even need to adjust your RAM speed
4:47 in order to get whatever overclocking you want um Adrian wants to know how I
4:51 know Logan honestly I don't really know Logan I've never met him in person just
4:55 we've exchanged tweets and emails and YouTube private messages over the last a
4:59 while here um that that's about it we only really know each other through like
5:03 like the YouTube the YouTube Brotherhood so I I'm late tonight Brian I am not
5:09 late tonight I was exactly on time I was about as on time as someone could ever
5:14 be for a live stream that starts when they show up so no matter what I do no
5:19 matter what I do I'm on time so no one
5:22 I'm not familiar with Greenlight oh this is great green light is extremely
5:27 interesting so it started with the firm architecture cards and what green light
5:32 basically is is okay let's say Galaxy for example Galaxy um colorful palette
5:38 actually I don't know if colorful is a GeForce partner I I don't remember whatever they're not in North America so
5:42 let's go with the GeForce Partners MSI Su C VGA all of these guys what green
5:47 light means is they create a design for
5:50 a card so if you guys aren't familiar with how an adom board partner Works
5:53 basically NVIDIA designs a chipset so that's a that's a
5:57 GK 104 4 for example gk104 is the chip
6:02 that's on a 660 Ti it's also the chip on a 670 a 680 and a 690 but there's two of
6:06 them so they have a chipset then they do a reference design
6:11 where they take that chipset and they completely design a product around it so
6:15 they'll put on a memory amount of memory they'll put like a suggested memory RAM
6:19 speed frequency timings they'll design like a power delivery system and they'll
6:24 make a PCB for it they'll do a cooler that is a reference card so it's
6:28 actually designed in every possible way by NVIDIA although NVIDIA manufactures
6:32 nothing NVIDIA's chips themselves are manufactured by a third party such as
6:36 tsmc and their cards themselves are
6:39 actually usually man well not usually they're always manufactured by someone
6:43 else as well so when NVIDIA does like a
6:46 new launch for example if they launch a a reference GTX 680 that means one of
6:51 their addin board Partners was probably contracted to produce all the reference
6:56 680s which then the other partners have to put their sticker on and you know
7:01 they're kind of doing it as a favor for NVIDIA so they probably don't make a whole lot of money on it and all of that
7:05 but that's okay reference design okay
7:08 now the addin board partners are more than welcome to design their own many
7:13 aspects of the GPU so you've seen you know EVGA with their billion different
7:19 versions of every GPU where they've got a super clock and a super super clock
7:23 and a for the win and a for the win plus and a super Super Clock Plus and a
7:27 classified they've got so many cards cards so some of those have different
7:32 cooling solutions some of them have different clock speeds some of them have
7:36 different Power delivery which will enable better overclocking some of them
7:40 will have different amounts of RAM so they might be 2 gigs three gigs four
7:45 gigs six gigs doesn't matter um these are all the different things that the
7:48 add-in board Partners can do they can add different display outputs so great
7:52 example was evga's 570 HD where they
7:56 actually added and this isn't a 570 but they added a DisplayPort out which none
8:00 of the other 570s really had they were mostly dual DVI with a mini HDMI another
8:05 example would be Galaxy's 570 MDT which actually had triple display outputs on a
8:10 570 before NVIDIA officially introduced that feature with the 600 series okay so
8:16 we got reference designs then we have addin board partner designs and that's
8:20 anything that was designed by someone other than NVIDIA and doesn't look like
8:24 that standard NVIDIA card
8:27 okay so green light means that Nidia it
8:31 has to approve or give the green light the goahead to any design that a
8:36 manufacturer submits before it gets
8:40 released to Market so what does this mean there's a
8:44 lot of different sides to the story so I'm going to give you guys a little bit of the history of what's happened to
8:49 bring the green light program to light to light to Green Light uh to light
8:54 recently so number one is MSI's power
8:57 edition cards they're power edition cards cards they're Hawk edition cards
9:01 Nidia has a certain spec so you know
9:05 this is aside from the cooler and the clock speed whatever they have a certain spec for how much voltage they want
9:10 appli to the GPU how much voltage they want to apply to different parts of the
9:15 kit that is used to make up this graphics card where the add in board
9:18 partner can design all the other stuff and what MSI was doing was they were
9:23 allowing the gpus to be overvolted and
9:26 overclocked in a way that inidia did did
9:29 not authorize now Tom's Hardware did a fantastic article actually it was the
9:34 German site that I think did the original article but there's an English version that's sort of shorter and and
9:39 easier to read for people who don't read German like me and uh what they
9:44 basically discovered was that MSI was dramatically overvolting one of the
9:47 components on this board in order to achieve the results they were getting I
9:51 mean a 660 Ti power Edition when maximum
9:55 overclocked could actually run right there with a gtx6 70 reference card when
10:01 they were both at their maximum overclocks which basically means you'd
10:05 have to have rocks in your head in order to buy a 670 reference card when this
10:10 660 Ti power Edition was just as fast
10:14 once you overclocked it so so they discovered that's that's what
10:19 they were doing um it was also then discovered that MSI is revising the
10:23 cards um in order to adhere to NVIDIA's
10:29 guidelines with respect to GPU voltages
10:33 and um and the overall design of the card to get it sort of greenlighted
10:37 again now green light doesn't mean that MSI cannot release the product you can
10:41 see they released the 660ti power Edition even though it was not running
10:46 according to spec so what NVIDIA has basically come
10:51 out and said in the last uh the last day or so is that it's not a matter of them
10:56 redlighting a product they're not saying okay you can't release this product to
11:00 the market but what they are saying to the add-in board Partners is if you
11:04 release this product we are not going to
11:07 warrantee the components that you bought from us so basically they're voiding the
11:14 addin board Partners warranty for overclocking outside of the certain
11:20 threshold that NVIDIA wants overclocked
11:23 another example is EVGA 680
11:26 classified that um is no longer sold
11:30 with the evbot utility that allowed it to be
11:35 overvolted okay so a couple different ways to to interpret this number one is
11:39 you could kind of go Rubble Rubble Rubble NVIDIA is limiting the board
11:43 Partners in terms of what they can do in the terms of the designs they can bring to market the performance they can
11:47 deliver to Gamers um so that's that's one perspective the other perspective is
11:52 uh this is from NVIDIA's Camp is that the green light program is designed to
11:57 improve the reliability and the consistency of the experience for
12:02 GeForce gpus for gamers so NVIDIA has an
12:06 internal philosophy that and I agree with them 100% on this that if your
12:10 video card dies after a year or two
12:14 that's not a good thing and that that's
12:18 going to create a bad customer experience a bad experience around the
12:22 GeForce experience and NVIDIA is deeply concerned with what kind of an
12:26 experience the customer has whether they buy a gal Galaxy card an EVGA card ASUS
12:32 whoever it doesn't matter from their perspective they want to make sure no
12:35 matter who the customer chooses they get
12:38 a great experience so they're evaluating things in this green light program
12:42 they're evaluating Acoustics they're evaluating the temperatures they're
12:46 evaluating the um the size of the gpus
12:49 making sure that the customer is going to have a great experience so from their
12:53 perspective they're kind of sitting here going okay we did all the work on this
12:57 we understand how this chip worked down to its very like
13:02 microscopic level we've done all the testing and determined what is a safe
13:07 voltage in terms of the heat that it's going to Output you know whether the
13:12 cooling design can handle it or whatever else what is a safe voltage in terms of
13:15 the longevity of the chip they have B the chips at their level so remember
13:20 guys a gk104 GPU is exactly the same GPU
13:24 exactly the same thing whether it's in a 660 Ti 670 or 680 so what is the
13:29 difference the difference is that they actually take these gpus and they sort
13:34 them into which ones are validated for 680 670 660 Ti operational speeds as
13:41 well as the number of functional units that are enabled
13:44 okay so NVIDIA is basically going okay look well we already B these for you we
13:49 told you what voltage is safe to run them at from a reliability and a heat
13:52 output perspective and if you want to go ahead and turn them up that's fine but
13:57 the onus is going to be on you to support these things once they're out
14:00 there in the market because this is not what we designed them to be used
14:04 for so who's right actually that's outside
14:09 the scope of this conversation but I would love to get your comments on
14:12 Twitter and have a look at what you guys think about the greenl program and
14:17 whether okay you guys are just like you guys are just not talking about this at
14:22 all okay please please at Linus tweet
14:28 that direction tweet and let me know what do you think of the green light
14:31 program whose side are you on are you with the add-in board Partners who are
14:35 basically going okay well we should be able to take this thing that we bought
14:38 from you NVIDIA we should be able to do whatever we want with it and you should
14:41 warranty it because you know we're your
14:44 partners or do you take the other perspective and go well NVIDIA kind of
14:49 has the right to set a warranty term I mean they're not telling the partners
14:52 they can't do it they're just saying we're not going to warranty it because
14:55 you used it outside of the Opera it's like if you use your fridge um to cool
15:00 your PC you're not going to get a warranty for that it's like a consumer
15:03 TV actually consumer TVs are a great example TBA I believe is the only brand
15:08 that will actually warranty a consumer TV the instant you put it into a
15:13 commercial environment so if you use a Sony TV Samsung TV in your business in
15:19 your restaurant you have TV displayed you you want it up on the wall the
15:22 second you put that in there your warranty is void because it is not valid
15:26 for commercial use so it's not like this is uncommon thing okay we finally have
15:30 some interactions let's have a look at what people say all
15:34 right oh wow we've got a lot of responses now yay way to go guys okay
15:39 Nicholas NVIDIA side um Raz we're not
15:44 talking about that right now Jordan NVIDIA is taking a stand I like it they
15:48 aren't limiting us we still have both options now Jordan something I would
15:51 bring up about your point here is that we actually don't have both options
15:56 every partner that I'm aware of that had a skew that was not warrantable under
16:01 green light has pulled that skew back so
16:05 effectively by pulling the warranty out of them they have removed those options
16:10 from the market whether they're correct about it or not is sort of the debate
16:14 we're having here but we don't really have a choice anymore so there something
16:18 to bear in mind uh NVIDIA is correct NVIDIA NVIDIA
16:22 NVIDIA are in the right here uh Ryan says what's going to happen to the
16:26 existing 660 Ti well for the power Edition from MSI which is the example I
16:29 focused on a lot here um any that were already released um are going to be what
16:36 they are and so they'll perform a little better and then the new ones that are
16:39 redesigned will be under the same name they'll be the same skew and they'll
16:43 have slightly less overclocking potentially you won't be able to crank up the voltage as much um and that will
16:49 be that okay fax says NVIDIA has the right to control their warranty Alex I'm
16:54 with NVIDIA they shouldn't have to warranty something it's not designed for
16:57 so it looks like by and large you guys are both are all very much on
17:04 the green light NVIDIA side which is very interesting because a lot of the
17:08 time consumers and I'm not going to generalize you guys here anything like
17:11 that but a lot of the time consumers are not uh very quick to side with sort of
17:17 the multi-billion dollar uh international company in this case I can
17:22 see it from both perspectives because
17:25 what NVIDIA's effectively done is they've taken something the GPU Partners
17:29 have always taken for granted they've always been able to do this before and
17:33 it's always been one of the ways that they can compete against each other
17:36 because it's not like NVIDIA supports every partner equally I mean they try
17:40 they do their best but it's like you know if you have like 10 children
17:43 there's bound to be one that's your favorite or whatever else um so one of
17:48 the ways that the that the GPU Partners could use to differentiate from each
17:52 other um has has been taken away so I
17:55 can see why particularly some of the partners that relied on this this would
17:59 be really upset it's like um should your kids have an ice cream every Saturday um
18:06 you know what it there's nothing wrong with giving them an ice cream every
18:09 Saturday if they're being good um are
18:13 the kids are the kids wrong when they
18:17 say well we're still being good and the expectation was always that if we were
18:20 really good we were going to get ice cream on Saturday and now you're saying
18:23 no ice cream anymore um I don't know I
18:27 don't know I I don't have I don't have the right answer here but uh okay NVIDIA
18:31 side NVIDIA's in the right Matthew says say my name that's creepy dude creepy
18:36 creepy creepy oh wait you didn't mean it like
18:41 that all right what else we got here so we've got about another 65 results which
18:46 means I can't read all of them but I am going to do a quick skim here once I get
18:50 down to uh whoa we have a lot of a lot
18:53 of tweets here Matthew something something I don't know whatever let's
18:56 just look at them uh
18:59 what possibility change motherboard is it going to be dis NVIDIA is correct
19:03 NVIDIA is correct oh I think I actually went past it there we go on NVIDIA's
19:06 side it's the partners that want to crank up the cards Scotty Scotty you're
19:10 the first one toci side with the partners here I'm with the partners
19:13 because they produce brilliant coolers and it just improves the card's performance you're right it does improve
19:17 the card's performance so here's an interesting take on it this was um I
19:21 forget who brought this up but evga's
19:24 680 was originally permitted to operate
19:28 this way and then now they're not able to ship it
19:31 with evbot anymore so effectively NVIDIA
19:34 has created this environment where SKS that don't really exist anymore okay so
19:40 the power Edition as we know it for 660ti doesn't exist the 680 classified
19:45 with all the overvolting doesn't exist but SKS that no longer exist have been
19:50 used to set overclocking records and set an unrealistic expectation with
19:54 customers did they do this intentionally did they not I actually don't know
19:59 um NVIDIA has the right to limit their warranty I'm on the NVIDIA side I think
20:04 the green light program is great and I'm all for a good customer experience you know what that is that is one huge way
20:09 to uh to look at this is that if NVIDIA is effectively improving the reliability
20:14 in the GeForce experience then how can
20:18 we see it as a bad thing hard to say I mean what if uh what
20:22 if the partners basically said to you guys here we'll give you a BIOS that uh
20:25 you know if you register your card we'll give you a BIOS that unlocks all of the
20:29 overvolting options and you will you'll
20:33 forfeit your warranty would you guys do something like
20:37 that I mean that might be the solution to all of this MSI continues producing
20:41 the power Edition exactly the same way that they always have and then they just
20:45 kind of go okay well you know we're going to ship it like this with this
20:49 BIOS that limits all this stuff so we can maintain our warranty and then we'll
20:53 give customers the option to and I don't know how they' track it to be perfectly
20:57 honest I mean there all hypothetical but we'll give customers the option to
21:00 Forfeit the warranty that way it's not on MSI's head what the customer decides
21:05 to do with that card um and NVIDIA won't have to deal with it either that way
21:10 you're just taking responsibility for your own your own overclocking Adventures which is how it used to be
21:15 actually I mean overclocking used to avoid everyone's warranty back in the
21:19 day so okay does AMD have a similar process
21:24 AMD I think is pretty much they they let the partners do what they want at this
21:27 point I mean you look at something like the devil 13 7990 from powercolor I mean
21:31 that's a very elaborate design that went into that card and uh they
21:37 also yeah they they released it power color managed to release it so I'm with
21:42 NVIDIA not warranting misuse I'll take him side I'm going to look for anyone
21:46 else who's who's on the uh who's on the partner side here I think we only had
21:51 one person side with the partners through all of
21:55 this NVIDIA oh here we go here we go

22:02 cards they should be able to do what to NVIDIA is right to though okay I'm
22:07 unfortunately I don't really understand that tweet but thank you male for um
22:14 participating okay we're going to move on from this topic now I see I have a
22:18 ton more tweets about this but as you guys can clearly see it's pretty much
22:21 impossible for me to read and and and analyze all of them but I just wanted to
22:26 share this whole situation with you get your guys' thoughts on it give you my
22:30 thoughts on it let's move on to the next thing Ultra books
22:35 so my understanding of an Ultra Book was
22:38 that uh aside from MacBook Air which we all know hopefully we all know is not an
22:44 Ultrabook MacBook Air is not an Ultrabook okay so we're clear um because
22:50 Ultrabook requ the word Ultrabook
22:53 requires an Intel license to use it it's
22:58 on a skewby skew basis for those of you who don't know what a skew is a skew
23:02 refers it means stock keeping unit it's like one sort of set specification of a
23:07 particular in this case notebook okay so
23:10 it's on a skewby skew basis there's no charge from Intel to validate a notebook
23:16 the only charge involved is you take your notebook we're going to pretend this is a notebook this is going to be
23:20 my prop for the rest of the night no matter what I'm talking about so you take your notebook you slap a shipping
23:24 label on it you send it to Intel and
23:28 they analyze it they look at it in a bunch of different ways and sort of then
23:32 they either give you the okay yes this is an Ultra Book or they say no go back
23:36 to the drawing board you have to fix this and this and this and it is not an
23:40 Ultrabook yet send it back again when it's done and uh so anyway so apple does
23:44 not participate in that program so MacBook Air in spite of its similarity
23:47 to something like an ASUS Zen book is not an Ultra Book okay so I would love
23:53 to see some tweets here guys about what you think are the characteristics of an
24:00 Ultra Book so we're going to go back to uh we're going to go back to the Twitter

24:31 that kind of good stuff that's what most of you were up

24:41 books are cool however all right here we go here we go so let's get into what
24:44 people think of this whole Ultrabook thing Zack says Ultrabooks are cool but
24:49 I would much rather get a more substantial customizable laptop my response to Zach is this is the
24:53 direction things are heading man whether we like it or not Apple has set this
24:58 trend with MacBook Pro MacBook and
25:01 MacBook Air that that's the Direction notebooks are going I me look at
25:04 something like the razor blade if that's not like an apple aluminum unibody sort
25:10 of inspired design then I don't know what is you look at ASUS Zenbook if
25:14 that's not a MacBook Air inspired design then I don't know what is but anyway
25:19 moving right along so Joseph thin you're right thin is part of
25:22 it um Ultra books are overpriced Slim in SSD ah Nicholas okay so slim yes SSD not
25:30 necessarily but I'll get into that in more detail later Joel says good quality
25:35 good quality can be Quantified in a lot of different ways um so again don't
25:40 worry guys I'm going to talk about this I'm going to talk about this okay High battery life says Jordan fast small and
25:45 light says Derek uh Ultrabooks are Intel laptops that are thin and light and good
25:49 battery life Joe I love your picture this is the second time I've seen you on
25:53 the Twitter feed I I still need to know if that's actually you though because
25:57 that's that's amazing that burger is well it's literally the size of a man's
26:02 head um okay battery life and thinness Intel I series CPU SSD integrated
26:07 Graphics Ultra books suck not enough power okay Dom we're sorry uh 60 new
26:12 interactions okay okay I'm just going to take these 60 if you guys do want to
26:16 participate in the whole like Twitter thing I need you guys to like be on the
26:20 ball on your tweets because I can only read so many of them slim and Powerful
26:24 battery life size and weight okay I'm I'm looking for a few different things
26:27 here guys that I'm not see yet because there's way more to Ultra Book than I
26:31 actually understood myself but the uh we had one of Intel's field guys in today
26:36 and he explained all the different aspects of things that um Austin Austin
26:42 you can watch the live stream after on the YouTube channel so I can't I can't I
26:47 can't redo the whole thing just for you Ultra books are nice I wouldn't buy one
26:50 so yeah he explained all the different stuff that goes into it none of you are getting it which is uh which is awesome
26:55 because I feel a little bit better about me not knowing what an Ultra Book was about okay so number one then then then
27:02 form factor form factor is huge so depending on the screen size the
27:06 diagonal screen size Intel has different specs for how thick an Ultrabook is
27:11 allowed to be to still be an Ultrabook okay so if you have a bigger screen size
27:16 you're allowed a little bit more thickness and it can still be an Ultrabook okay battery life honestly
27:22 Intel isn't too stringent on battery life the requirement is 5 hours and
27:27 that's that means five hours of like real five hours not like five hours of
27:31 like you put it in hibernate and you try not to like go too close to it and it'll
27:36 last for five hours no five hours with Wi-Fi with using the computer of actual
27:41 General usage and Intel validates this stuff okay however the sort of the
27:45 recommended what we're seeing more commonly is closer to around eight hours
27:49 which is fantastic I mean eight hours is long enough that you can realistically
27:53 use the computer in sort of an all day type environment as long as you're
27:57 putting it to sleep whenever you're not using it and then waking up when you are
28:00 using it aha which leads us to another spec so a lot of you suggested that an
28:05 SSD is a necessary part of the Ultrabook
28:09 spec it is not an SSD is a great way to
28:14 meet the Ultrabook spec because it'll mean that you can have a thinner form
28:17 factor if you're using like an M SATA SSD it'll mean that your power
28:21 consumption will be really low it'll run really cool um it will also enable fast
28:27 wake from sleep times and overall Snappy
28:30 performance so Intel has a spec that says it can take no longer than seven
28:36 seconds for an Ultrabook to wake from sleep now when uh his name is Ben we're
28:40 going to have a couple episodes on the ncixcom channel featuring him in the
28:43 next uh next week or two um so Ben
28:47 pointed out to me that with an SSD an Ultra Book can typically and oh yeah
28:52 boot boot times are uh are probably looked at as well although it wasn't on
28:55 the list of things that are and analyzed so the UEFI BIOS went very quickly the
29:00 first time we booted it up and it booted up extremely quickly then when we put it
29:04 to sleep and opened it up it took less than two steambow less than two seconds
29:08 to be fully functional when it was coming up from sleep so an SSD enables
29:12 that however an SSD isn't the only way to do it you are allowed as a laptop
29:18 manufacturer to implement a hybrid solution such as a hard drive with an
29:22 SSD cache the SSD cache has to be at least 16 gigs and with that hybrid
29:28 solution you can honestly with the hard
29:31 drive you would just wouldn't be able to meet the spec Intel doesn't explicitly
29:34 say you can't use a plane hard drive but what they do say is you have to adhere
29:38 to this performance standard which rules out hard drives so with a hybrid drive
29:42 you can meet that spec while not having the add extra expense of going with a
29:48 straight SSD solution so something like a momentus XT or a separate 16 gig on an
29:52 MSA with a separate mechanical hard drive running in the Shell uh these are
29:56 solutions that the partners can Implement so okay so there's a
30:00 performance aspect um it has to use a third generation core I3 I5 or i7
30:05 processor I you know personally I wouldn't mind if they locked it down to
30:08 just i5s and i7s I mean um at the point where you're looking at low power i3s
30:13 they're not um they're not going to deliver that that snappiness that
30:16 performance um connectivity an Ultrabook
30:21 must have a highspeed connectivity Now
30:24 Intel doesn't specify what that is but in Practical terms it must have a USB 3
30:29 port and it or or sorry or it must have
30:32 a Thunderbolt port or both it has to have at least one though uh one of the
30:37 other things with respect to connectivity is that I believe business
30:40 class Ultrabooks must have an Ethernet port they can't rely solely on Wi-Fi now
30:46 all Ultrabooks do have to have Wi-Fi which makes sense because none of them
30:49 really have Optical drives and if you had no Wi-Fi and this Ultrabook this
30:53 like portable device that actually you have to plug in every time you use it
30:56 that would be stupid but um that's an aside at this point moving along to some
31:01 of the other things Ultrabooks must have right they must have Intel's identity
31:07 protection technology and they must have
31:10 Intel's anti- theft technology now we did a really cool Tech tips um about
31:15 Intel anti- theft technology and I'm going to give you guys uh I'm actually
31:20 going to give those of you who are who are subscribed to uh who not subscribed
31:24 see I'm so used to being like a YouTuber those of you you who are following me on
31:29 Twitter I am going to explain one of the
31:33 most cryptic things that I have ever uploaded to the internet ever today so

32:12 kind of like a fake thing like it was kind of fun we were like Ben I stole your Ultra Book and I going to log into
32:17 your Facebook and I'm G to message your grandmother and um and so Ben was like
32:22 well no lonus I'm going to use my anti- theft technology which is built into the
32:26 ultra book at a pre-bio level so there's
32:31 like there's like hardware and then there's like like bare metal firmware
32:37 then there's BIOS which is programmable you can erase and and reflash it then
32:41 there's your OS okay so it's built in at this level um and what he was able to do
32:46 and the subscription to mcafe service I think cost like 60 bucks a year or
32:49 something like that what he was able to do was he was able to tell his Ultra
32:52 Book you can tell it a couple things you can tell it if you go too long without
32:56 an internet connection shut off and lock
33:00 you can also tell it next time you have network connectivity shut off lock um
33:06 you can't get around this reformatting the OS will not help reflashing the BIOS
33:13 will not help once it's locked so once he locked it and I was sitting there I
33:17 was able to show the screen to the camera and go okay there's a message
33:20 from Ben hi this says Ben please return my laptop and you cannot boot The
33:24 Notebook no matter what you do which is very very cool so that is required as
33:29 part of the Ultrabook spec every Ultra Book must have that feature so if you
33:32 pay for the service then you'll be able to uh we were even able to see where the
33:36 Ultrabook was within about a couple block radius just using uh just using
33:41 the IP address that it was that it uh that was registered to it when it was uh
33:44 when it was on the Wi-Fi so very very very cool stuff I'm just going to see if
33:49 there's anything else that I'm forgetting about the whole Ultrabook
33:52 concept uh I don't think so I can see if there's any more any more tweets about
33:56 Ultrabook and if of course there's probably like 1
34:00 billion um okay change the Ultrabook

34:19 actually you know what Let's do let's do a short Q&A and then I'll move on to uh
34:23 then I'll move on to my next topic so I'm just going to look for some of the
34:27 stuff Dom why do retail shops say one or
34:31 two gig graphics and not the specs of the card because retail shops you know
34:35 big box retail guys who rely on the
34:38 ignorance of their customers to make additional margin don't want to tell you
34:43 any spec that will be helpful because from their perspective like okay this is
34:49 a 2 gig graphics card so from their
34:52 perspective would they rather sell you so this this costs like 300 bucks okay
34:56 so would they rather convince you that the Cheapo graphics card that they have
35:01 you know like let's say a GT 640 or something that they want to charge 150
35:06 bucks for would they rather convince you that that two gig card is as good as any
35:11 other two gig card absolutely and because the customers walking into these
35:16 places don't have the knowledge and the experience to know that the GPU the
35:21 memory bus the amount of memory the speed of the memory the type of the
35:25 memory all of these things are way
35:28 way more important than the amount of memory on a video card in fact for any
35:33 lowend to mid-range card the amount of memory is actually almost totally
35:38 meaningless because it doesn't have the GPU horsepower to back up that memory
35:43 anyway so with that 2 gig frame I mean okay you could take a gt640 you could
35:47 put a 4 gig frame buffer on it there's no reason you couldn't do
35:51 it that card could potentially hold
35:55 enough texture data in its frame buffer to power like a six monitor gaming setup
36:02 but that GPU would only be able to run that setup at one frame per second so
36:06 who cares can have all the memory it wants it's totally irrelevant because it
36:10 will be bottlenecked by the GPU power long before the memory amount even
36:14 matters 640 could be a 512 Meg card it wouldn't even matter um and the same
36:18 thing goes for even high-end cards as well so something like a 6 60 TI unless
36:24 you're running surround you don't need more than two gigs um if you are running
36:28 surround all of a sudden more memory starts to matter because it has the GPU
36:32 horsepower to back it up so it all comes down to resolution as well as how
36:36 demanding the textures of the game are if you're running high-r texture packs
36:39 now we're talking about a completely different thing where memory could be the difference between chugging along at
36:44 10 FPS because it has to swap out to the system memory all the time and running
36:48 at a smooth 30 40 FPS so there hopefully
36:51 that addresses the topic of GPU memory
36:55 once and for all let's go ahead and have
36:58 a look at some of the newer tweets that came in once 81 81 tweets okay so let's
37:04 have a look at some of the people who tweeted sort of first here so these are
37:07 two minutes does that mean you could also hack into the anti thefting to lock
37:10 up someone's computer I guess in theory I don't know that that's actually been done

41:40 the CPU architecture it is still using Sandy bridge- e for I don't know
41:45 Enthusiast workstation whatever e stands for so Sandy Bridge has been wait hold
41:50 on Sandy Bridge no sorry it's one generation behind and once Haswell
41:54 Launches on LGA 1155 it will be two Generations behind so by the time it
41:59 gets a refresh it'll be two behind so what does that mean so it means that in
42:02 terms of instruction per clock it is behind so single threaded performance is
42:07 actually lower on LGA 2011 than it is on 1155 in spite of 2011 being the
42:12 Enthusiast platform
42:16 okay are enthusiasts happy about this I don't know uh personally as a 2011 user
42:21 I wish I had an IV Bridge uh processor to drop in my system I wish that I you
42:26 know had Haswell e to go into my system
42:29 so that's the disadvantage of 2011 is we seem to be getting a bit of a short
42:33 straw in terms of upgrades um however the advantage of
42:38 2011 is that it's getting a much more advanced so much more robust overall
42:43 architecture so 2011 when Ivy Bridge
42:47 gets its refresh so right now okay so we had Sandy bridge and Sandy Bridge e LGA
42:52 2011 LGA 1155 then we got Ivy bridge
42:56 then then on 1155 this is 1155 we're going to get Haswell so Intel will have
43:01 gone through two architectural changes then we're going to get Ivy Bridge e
43:06 which will be sort of caught up but still a generation behind however LGA
43:10 1155 will not have more than four cores Intel's already said this they won't get
43:14 more than four cores 2011 already has six cores if you're like me you render a
43:19 lot of video six cores there's actually more important than a few more
43:22 instructions per clock okay so once we get once we get
43:27 Ivy Bridge e we're going to get anywhere from 10 to 12 cores and these will be
43:32 high performance cores because there's no need to have a GPU Core built in as
43:36 for what happens in the future I hope we'll get Haswell but honestly I kind of
43:41 doubt it however looking back at LGA 1366 so remember 1366 lasted
43:49 throughout part of 775 you know 775 was still there on the
43:53 low end when 1366 was a premium platform lasted through
43:57 1156 and was still relevant once we moved to 1155 if I recall correctly
44:03 although I could be getting that mix either way 1366 lasted for multiple
44:06 mainstream sockets and there's no reason to believe that LGA 2011 won't last
44:10 through multiple mainstream sockets it's got all those pins um worst case
44:14 scenario they might do a chipset refresh or something like that but they probably
44:17 won't change the socket and um I guess basically I don't really
44:22 know Nick says can I have a shout out

44:32 maximum temperature for overclocking a video card Raz there isn't really a maximum temperature it depends on the

44:44 are good up to 90 95 degrees um and they're actually designed to run like
44:48 that however you can see what Intel and AMD have been doing with the last couple
44:51 Generations improving the power efficiency and improving the
44:54 temperatures that they're probably not trying to have their gpus run so hot

45:08 into so we're going to go ahead and do that now why is quad SLI a terrible idea
45:15 for a gaming machine and I should clarify oops amir's question is actually
45:20 not as terrible so he wants to know would you recommend two GTX 690s or four
45:24 GTX 680s for extreme benchmarking easy
45:27 answer for GTX 680s the reason for that is they overclock better than 690s
45:31 although that's not as true anymore so you'd have to find ones that overvolt
45:36 um along the lines of that green light topic we were talking about
45:40 earlier um and just the fact that in terms of thermals you will be less
45:45 limited because you can use better cooling on them by having them
45:48 separated now forget extreme benchmarking I have a lot of people ask
45:53 me about anything beyond two-way SLI so
45:56 three-way SLI four-way SLI they'll say hey is this a good deal good idea should
46:01 I get uh should I get dual 690s should I
46:04 get uh should I get quad 680s or triple
46:07 680s or what whatever else okay so few things so number one power consumption
46:12 is going to go through the roof number two the actual effici like the actual
46:18 performance you gain I did a great video about this the actual performance you
46:22 gain from three-way SLI oh shoot there
46:25 we go 3-way SLI Linus let's try
46:29 searching for that here so the actual performance you gain from 3way SLI from
46:33 2way SLI is actually very small you guys should check out this video that I did a
46:37 while back so this was GTX 690 versus
46:40 3-way 670 and yeah you should definitely
46:44 check that out it's it's kind of an analysis of the scaling of these gpus as
46:47 well you don't get much in terms of performance now if you go okay lonus I
46:53 don't care money is no object for me it doesn't matter I am willing to blow this
46:56 money on these gpus I want to have a great gaming experience I want the
47:00 maximum FPS to which I would reply wrong
47:03 you're wrong that's not what you want you do not just want maximum FPS there
47:08 is more to gaming there is more to a high-end system than throwing more
47:12 graphics cards into it so I see people
47:16 um and dual 690s I guess is less ridiculous than triple and quadruple
47:21 cards for this reason we've only got seven expansions
47:26 slot on even your highest end board
47:30 something like an ASRock extreme 11 uh where they actually manage to implement
47:34 Seven slots on a 2011 board that's your best case scenario if you install three
47:41 graphics cards never mind four where there'll be absolutely no slots left if
47:44 you install three graphics cards on most
47:47 motherboards you'll have no slots left over or you'll have like a PCI slot or
47:51 something stupid due to the way that they do the slot layouts if you have
47:54 four graphics cards you will have none so let's assume you have n where's your
47:58 sound card where is your raid card where
48:03 is your anything your HDMI capture card for
48:07 streaming your gaming or your G for casting or whatever else most
48:11 importantly where is your sound card anyone who thinks that sound is not an
48:17 important aspect of gaming and is willing to compromise on the sound
48:22 experience use their onboard sound instead
48:27 of or is willing to use that for the
48:31 pleasure of putting in another graphics card to get another 10% 15% maybe 20%
48:36 performance Improvement is just wrong you're wrong because a huge part of a
48:41 cinematic experience whether it's movies or games a huge part of your immersion
48:46 is the sound experience why do you enjoy the movie theater why did you I mean
48:51 let's okay not even today where we've got digital production and great screens
48:55 in most movie theaters let's go back to years ago when most movie theaters had
48:59 like little pops and circles and sort of artifacts all over the screen were you
49:03 going there to see the movie big yes were you going there to see the movie on
49:08 like this pristine crystal clear screen no you were going there to get
49:13 absolutely rocked by their 20.2 surround system with huge
49:19 subwoofers because it makes for a more IM immersive experience there is more to
49:24 life than more graphics cards and more Gamers need to realize this I've
49:28 actually made a point of retweeting some of the tweets people have sent me lonus
49:32 you talked me into buying a sound card holy crap I can't believe I ever
49:37 listened to those people who said that a sound card doesn't make a difference get
49:41 a real sound card get a proper headset
49:44 get proper speakers you will thank me do
49:47 not buy more graphics cards two graphics cards is pretty much enough here's
49:52 another reason so people might respond to me lonus I need more graphics cards
49:56 because I'm going to run six monitors or I'm going to run I'm going to run three
50:01 super high resolution displays wrong again the reason for that is that in SLI
50:06 the graphics cards actually don't build
50:09 on each other's memory if you have two 2 gig graphics cards you have two gigs of
50:13 vram effectively if you have two 3 gig graphics cards you have three
50:20 gigs of Graphics memory that is actually usable by your system if you have four 3
50:26 gig graphics cards I know I'm emphasizing this a lot you have 3 gigs
50:30 of address Graphics memory which means that by the time you got to a resolution
50:35 that would benefit from all these additional graphics cards in any meaningful way you're going to run out
50:39 of vram oh which brings me back to actually 680 quad SLI versus 690 SLI so
50:45 that's right that's why 69 I forgot right so 680 quad SLI or triple SLI is
50:50 terrible because you lose all of your expandability for your system fantastic
50:55 and then quad SLI with 690s is terrible
50:59 because you have a 2 gig frame buffer way to go with your 2 gig frame buffer
51:03 which is not useful for anything higher than about 2560 x600 single display
51:08 you're not going to be using a 2 gig frame buffer to get an optimal
51:11 experience on Triple displays you'd probably be better off going with like
51:16 dual 67 all right like dual 660 Ti 3
51:19 gigs or something like that actually no that's probably not fair I mean dual
51:23 6804 gigs or something along those lines May actually be a better solution than
51:28 290s because of the limited vrm so there

56:51 out some tweets um but beyond that there's just nothing I can do the sheer
56:55 volume of messages I reive like guys think about this okay go and read a
57:00 tweet and then like reply to it and then
57:04 yourself now times a thousand every day
57:07 I have a full-time job I have these videos I have a live stream when I do a
57:11 live stream it's going to completely wipe out my place where I was and it's
57:16 going to absolutely destroy any progress I could have possibly made at catching
57:21 up because in this live stream alone I've already received well over 600
57:25 tweets so so I'm sorry guys I do my best
57:28 it's all I can do it is not mathematically possible for me to reply
57:31 to the tweets and that doesn't even get into the point that once I reply to a
57:35 tweet that person usually tweets me back which means that what was a thousand
57:39 tweets once I reply to them is probably going to turn into more like 1500 once I
57:43 have to reply a second time and then maybe even let's say half of those
57:47 people again reply to me again so now every thousand tweets is actually
57:50 probably more like 1,700 tweets by the time I'm actually done addressing the
57:54 person's question so this this is why I think I need a forum this is why I think
57:58 I need a way for you guys to interact with each other and not just me because
58:02 I will die um speaking of which Twitter I mean if you guys want to sort of find
58:07 anything at Linus Tech and throw in your own answers that would be great that
58:11 would actually be immensely helpful for me because I can't reply to them all on

59:26 a 3930k uh it used to be that the extreme Edition was somewhat
59:31 justifiable uh because it was unlocked so you could break benchmarking records
59:36 and if you like really wanted sort of the the epen of having an extreme
59:40 Edition then that was cool but a 3930k has a little bit less cach a little bit
59:45 lower stock clock speed and other than that it actually overclocks exactly the
59:49 same so we're talking performance within like 1% 2% of each other once you
59:54 overclock them both to the max so um I've never recommended a 3960x to anyone
60:00 uh people do buy them I mean people buy them it's sort of it's cool um yeah I
60:06 mean go for it you want to be extreme buy an extreme Edition but um yeah it's
60:10 not something that I've ever really recommended uh can you talk about micro

64:36 great options so ASUS backs it up with a 5-year warranty which is cool awesome
64:41 and then MSI has a three-year warranty but they're hand testing every single
64:45 board in an overclocked scenario so I
64:48 don't know you decide which of those two things is more important to you and then
64:51 like go for it they're both absolutely fantastic options

65:07 when does a motherboard really affect
65:10 with an a Brandon really affect
65:13 performance uh the answer is sort of complicated so there's a lot of ways
65:17 that a motherboard can affect performance so in terms of the features
65:22 that it delivers so uh ausis implementation of USB 3 for example as
65:28 far as I can tell is superior to what I've seen from other guys you'll get
65:32 faster performance regardless of you know which here I'm going to see if I've
65:36 got one in my pocket you know regardless of which usb3 device you're using or
65:40 whatever the case may be you will get better performance uh from an ASUS
65:45 chipset uh or from an ASUS board using their as media chipset and their um uasp
65:51 or their Turbo Modes so that's one of the ways a motherboard can affect
65:55 performance um it can affect performance in terms of just what features it has
65:58 enabled so if you want to run dual Graphics SLI Crossfire you better get a
66:04 motherboard that supports it otherwise you won't get that performance because
66:08 you can't install those things so there's that it can affect overclocking
66:13 which means like if you have a better power delivery system it runs cooler uh
66:17 you're going to get slightly better overclocking results um BIOS
66:21 optimization is another way that the motherboard can affect performance and
66:24 overclocking so um the better they
66:27 program the BIOS the better the power delivery is the better it is however
66:31 it's not the way it used to be it used to be back in the socket 478 days back
66:37 in the socket a days that you could actually like run gaming benchmarks on
66:41 one motherboard versus another motherboard and you might see a 10% spread in terms of performance which
66:47 these days totally unheard of it doesn't happen anymore um at at the same speed
66:51 at the same frequency that's what I'm talking about and that was because of
66:55 the way that the manufacturers were um
66:59 designing the board I mean they were they were doing so much more work at the
67:03 BIOS level because they had to optimize for the communication from the FSB
67:08 between the over the FSB between the CPU and the chipset and then from the
67:11 chipset to everything else including the RAM the second that the integrated
67:16 memory controller came along with the Athlon 64 the second that the memory
67:20 controller was taken off the chipset all of a sudden um there was less
67:26 differentiation in terms of performance because there was nothing the motherboard manufacturers could really
67:31 do besides routing the traces really cleanly to the memory banks that would
67:35 affect the way that the performance was going to play out because it was no
67:40 longer being relayed by anything there was no like tweaking they could do to
67:43 this chipset there's just this integrated memory controller it's built right into the CPU so there's that um
67:49 and I mean even then though you know PCI Express AGP these were features that
67:53 could differentiate boards you know better implement of the graphics ports
67:57 um was something whereas now especially on the Intel platform even PCI Express
68:03 Lanes are implemented at the CPU level
68:06 so what's not implemented at the CPU level now there's a few things so
68:10 there's usb3 which is on the South Bridge there's SATA which is on the sth
68:14 bridge um so really anything that's built into
68:18 the CPU there's not much the motherboard manufacturers can do about it besides
68:22 helping you tweak more overclocking speed out of it
68:25 everything else now okay so yeah onboard Graphics was another way that
68:29 motherboard manufacturers could differentiate now that's built onto the CPU
68:32 too so really there's not uh there's not
68:36 a whole lot left they can build in uh you know things like SAS functionality
68:40 like gigabyt sun with the X x79 S5
68:43 things like Thunderbolt so connectivity more usb3 ports better usb3
68:47 implementations better sound implementation such as A's done with the
68:51 Maximus 5 formula uh these are the ways that these motherboard guys can really
68:56 differentiate from each other but in terms of performance you sit down you
69:00 play a game performance there's not much of a Delta
69:04 anymore um oh dude do you have do you have to
69:09 have that Twitter name it's like I I hardly even want to reply to your
69:12 message but what reason would make you end your YouTube career um good question
69:17 I guess I haven't really thought about it I have zero intention of stopping uh
69:22 making videos on YouTube if anything I feel rejuvenated these days because it
69:27 was uh it was a huge milestone for me to
69:30 hit that like just huge I cannot express
69:33 how awesome it was to hit that 200,000 subscriber Milestone I mean back when I
69:38 started doing this um I I would look at
69:41 guys with 50,000 subscribers or 100,000 subscribers and I'd be like wow that is
69:47 amazing if I can ever get there I will be so grateful and I'll be so happy and
69:52 um and I and I'm there now and I mean now I'm I'm looking for the next I'm
69:55 looking for the next level I'm looking for 500,000 I'm looking for a million I
69:59 mean it's always about taking it to the next level and um it was it was just
70:02 really exciting to get to one of those Milestones that I'd really set for
70:05 myself uh one of the first Milestones that got me really excited was the day
70:09 that this goes back to Logan because I think he was still on the project at the
70:12 time but the day that I passed Tiger Direct blog for the number of
70:16 subscribers as well they've still got more views by a long shot but uh but
70:20 it's it's it's it's fun it's friendly competition I mean I have nothing against any of those other YouTube guys
70:25 it's just it it's kind of fun to to play that game so speaking of that game one
70:29 of the things that's also rejuvenated me lately is check this out so since I hit
70:34 that 200,000 subscriber Mark not only has it not slowed down so
70:40 this is social blade I know this isn't the best one vid stats X is sort of
70:43 better but this gives me I'm just used to the interface here so check this out

70:51 is my total number of subscribers in this column I was averaging kind of 300
70:56 subscribers a day this is an anomaly I think YouTube was doing a correction

73:07 I'm checking on the NC website here it is okay so 40in TV I'm just going to

73:58 sort of a wild ride here why is it that a 40in TV at a 1080p resolution costs

74:19 got LED backlights whatever so why does it cost more I can tell you the answer

74:37 pixel density and something something something right right right right right okay so a much larger TV costs more okay
74:44 so now let's let's scale things back down again and let's look at uh let's
74:50 look at pixel density so when we get to pixel density all of a sudden the
74:56 smaller something is the more it costs
75:00 because it's more difficult to manufacture so tell me something if a
75:05 bigger device that inherently has lower pixel
75:09 density and a smaller device this monitor I showed you guys before this is
75:13 like in the same price range it's on super discount now but generally speaking it's a $400 so if these two
75:19 things cost the same thing in cost the same in spite of the same resolution why
75:23 is it that this
75:27 device which actually is a 10-in panel
75:30 so in terms of the actual size difference it's like a similar ratio
75:35 going from like a 40in TV to a 27 in LCD
75:39 why is it that this doesn't cost the
75:42 same even though the pixel density is actually significantly higher this is also a 1080p panel if I recall correctly
75:47 this is a Transformer TF700 so here's my question to you what
75:53 is actually affecting how is it that we can produce a 40-in TV which is vastly
75:59 bigger for the same price as this
76:05 LCD and we can't produce you know what I
76:09 had a whole thing sort of in my mind about this and I've sort just totally
76:12 lost my train of thought so I'm going to give up on this topic but the point is
76:16 generally what affects it is it size is it pixel density I can't quite figure it
76:20 out because it doesn't seem to it doesn't seem like the cost scales
76:24 proportionally when we increase the size and then it doesn't seem like the cost
76:28 scales proportionally when we decrease
76:31 the pixel density or increase the pixel density or whatever else the case may be

76:40 only cost like a 100 bucks if you buy them from um I don't know it's like

77:29 US so he's uh he's doing he's doing his
77:32 own sort of vloggy style videos and then I wish him well but I think he's only
77:36 got like a 100 subscribers or something like that see there he is look how sexy
77:40 he is okay and then finally we have
77:43 actually this one I haven't seen what Paul's up to but Paul's Hardware is
77:48 another channel that you guys probably want to check out if you enjoy what I'm doing then uh you're probably going to
77:54 enjoy what what these guys are doing here so Paul only has one video he's

78:32 you're not familiar with my new gear conversation I blew over 10 grand on New
78:37 Gear so I have an fs700 camera coming which is going to be awesome we'll be
78:41 able to shoot video realistically at 240
78:45 FPS if we need something extremely
78:48 extremely high speed it can do up to 960
78:51 FPS and here's like a like just I have all these ideas in my head of stuff we
78:55 can do with this like all of a sudden we'll be able to empirically evaluate
79:00 the performance in terms of input leg on an LCD monitor because all we'll have to
79:05 do is take a microphone put it next to a mouse and go like this hit it so you
79:11 take a video of the LCD monitor and I guess you
79:16 could you could put the mouse in there as well and then all you have to do is
79:19 sync up with the sound it made when you tapped the mouse and you'll have to have
79:23 the microphone like right next to it we don't want the delay of the sound causing any ill effects actually you
79:26 know what you should probably keep the mouse in the shot so you can really see
79:30 that point of contact and we should be able to in
79:33 theory get down to the exact frame at
79:36 960 FPS okay 960 FPS the exact frame
79:40 where we touched the mouse then we can count how many frames until the monitor
79:46 responds and I don't know if this is going to work maybe it's totally stupid
79:50 maybe 960 FPS isn't enough but I'm super excited to try it out so I'm think if we
79:55 have like a CRT on one side and an LCD on the other side we can just try it and
79:59 see like how much if we take like ASUS's
80:02 144 Herz CCD and put that next to a CRT
80:05 how much of a difference is there are the CRT die hards missing out by

85:43 cards and fully custom liquid cooling unless you have a manufacturer in mind
85:47 that has already made a water block for your non-reference card if you want to
85:51 water cool your card get a reference card because it's very different
85:55 difficult these days to water cool a video card without a full cover block
85:59 and full cover blocks do not work on non
86:04 compatible cards so it just doesn't work that way

86:53 talking about ITX gaming um if I was
86:56 going to build an lg1155 PC I would want to take advantage of the fact that it
87:01 can fit in a very small form factor so I'd probably go with something like an
87:04 ASUS p8 z77 I uh Deluxe okay so that's a
87:09 z77 ITX board um then I'd go with
87:12 something like an external sound card like U oh you know what I don't have it
87:15 next to me anymore so you can't use the onboard sound on that it's terrible but
87:19 well it's not terrible but it's not it's onboard sound so I'd used some kind of
87:22 external USB DAC and as a headphone amp and all that kind of stuff so I'd do
87:26 that and then I'd probably go with a 3570k because I'm assuming this is for
87:31 like a portable gaming machine and then I'd throw probably something like a 660
87:34 Ti in there so hey Bernard there's my recommendation for what you should do
87:39 with this card and then in terms of case I'd probably go with um either that
87:43 Cooler Master one that I just unboxed the elite 120 I think it's called or I'd
87:48 go with a Silverstone F3 which is sweet sweet case the mini one the mini one F3

88:39 internals that makes the TGF 7 so appealing you can fit all this water
88:43 cooling crap in there and it's still not

88:51 big um Ryan is there a sound card you can recommend for a balance between
88:54 gaming and music enj honestly anything from the ASUS line the Zonar line is
88:59 going to be awesome um if you're using headphones get one with a headphone amp

89:07 balance between gaming and music enjoyment good sound is good sound I've
89:12 always taken that philosophy about it maybe to the most extreme of audio files
89:17 there will be some difference between a gaming optimized sound card and a music
89:21 optimized sound card but the reality of it is if it
89:25 produces clear sound you know deep bass
89:29 Rich mids clear highs if it does all of those things it'll be great for games
89:33 it'll be great for movies and it will be great

90:41 not even remotely capable of carrying that kind of bandwidth even the new
90:45 revised HTMI is not capable of carrying

90:53 that's the one with the faster processors on either end and whatever
90:56 1.4a or something like that who cares HDMI sucks but
91:01 um what they're doing is they are not
91:04 just refreshing the image so let's say here's your motion okay so something's
91:08 moving across the screen like this these are your frames okay so instead of just
91:13 doing this so let's say let's say we got four frames one two three four to show
91:17 you the motion in between each of those
91:20 frames they are flickering the backlight and that plays a trick on your eye that
91:25 makes so if they go two flicks and one
91:29 frame two flicks and one frame two flicks one frame it plays a trick with
91:34 your eye that makes the motion look smoother but also has sort of a strange
91:40 effect that makes it look unnaturally smooth to some people so when you see
91:46 someone saying this is a 240 HZ TV or 480 HZ TV they are referring to the
91:52 modulation of the back light not to the
91:56 refresh rate of the actual LCD panel so
91:59 that's a really important clarification that's why there were so many 120 HZ TVs
92:03 out there that people were talking about or they wanted to buy or they were even
92:07 mistakenly buying with the intention of running 3D Vision or something with
92:12 their graphics card getting an in a middleware driver and they're trying to do this only to realize that their 120
92:18 HZ TV was only a 60 HZ panel it wasn't
92:21 even capable of displaying a left and a right image at 60 HZ for each eye with
92:27 3D glasses so fantastic question and uh
