0:00 This right here is a $560
0:04 gaming monitor. It's got a 240 Hz
0:08 refresh rate, G-Sync, and 1 millisecond
0:12 response times. I mean, gaming on this thing is way better than gaming on this
0:17 cheapo HP. But is it six times better?
0:24 Now, take this one. This $5,000
0:29 8K workstation monitor for creatives.
0:33 It is way better to look at than this peasant trash.
0:38 But is it 55.55
0:43 repeating times better?
0:47 Well, your mental math is correct. This
0:51 monitor is only $90. And welcome back to
0:54 another episode of why the actual holy
0:58 advertiser friendly content. Are you guys all buying this? The best
1:03 selling monitor on Amazon.com.
1:16 The Pavilion 22 CWA, the bestselling
1:19 monitor on Amazon.com, has over 3600
1:23 reviews and an average rating of 4.4 stars. And admittedly, it does look a
1:29 little out of place next to the kinds of products that we typically cover on this
1:33 channel. But don't let its dimminitive
1:37 21 1/2 in size and super light 8 1/2 lb
1:41 weight fool you. This monitor is 100%
1:45 pretty not bad. Just check out those
1:48 colors. So, what's the deal here? Well,
1:51 it's not just that HP is selling a cheap monitor. In fact, the number three best
1:57 seller is only 65 bucks. It's that
2:00 they're selling a cheap monitor that's equipped with an IPS panel, while these
2:06 other cheapies are sporting your run-of-the-mill TN panels. But HP
2:11 doesn't make LCD panels. They source them from other manufacturers. So if I
2:17 take a spudger like this and
2:20 work it around the edge, I might be able to see who actually made this thing.
2:27 So, the sticker says LM215WF3,
2:31 which according to the internet is an LG
2:34 panel with a full 1920x 1080 resolution,
2:38 typical brightness of 250 nits and 8bit
2:41 color. But what's really interesting is that if I type that model number into
2:46 Amazon, I get a page full of replacement
2:51 2012 to 2014 iMac screens. and for over
2:55 $200. So, either these prices have a heavy
3:02 Apple tax applied to them or HP secured
3:05 an awesome deal with LG because 90 bucks
3:08 for an iMac screen ain't half bad. Plus,
3:12 you aren't just getting the panel. HP is providing you with the casing, stand,
3:16 IO, and their one-year limited warranty, which is of course required by law.
3:20 Haha. And the casing itself isn't too
3:24 bad either. It's made of not terrible quality plastic that doesn't easily get
3:29 covered in fingerprints, and it is slim all the way around. Though, of course,
3:33 they did have to cut some corners somewhere to get the price down. And the
3:39 stand is the worst offender. It offers
3:42 no swivel, no pivot or height adjust
3:47 whatsoever. though it does include a little bit of tilt to that you'll
3:52 probably need because the stand is so short. And that isn't even the worst
3:56 part. It's that should you take the crappy stand off and opt to use a third
4:01 party monitor ARM instead, perhaps in a multimonitor setup, which these are
4:06 awesome for thanks to the thin bezels. It's not Vasa compatible. So, unless you
4:13 get an adapter for an extra $20, you're going to have to get pretty creative.
4:18 Bringing us to the IO,
4:22 it's pretty spartan. You get one HDMI
4:25 port and one VGA port. That's it. I
4:29 mean, you probably have low expectations for such a budget product, but just make
4:34 sure that they're low enough to also not be surprised when there is no HDMI cable
4:40 included in the box. So, who should buy this monitor then?
4:45 Well, if you want a secondary or tertiary or quatinary screen for that
4:51 matter to supplement your main display or displays, the wide viewing angles
4:55 here mean that you can put it way off to the side without much color distortion.
5:01 As for using it for your main display,
5:04 could you use it for gaming? Sure. While
5:07 IPS displays aren't known to have the highest refresh rates or the fastest
5:11 pixel response times, this one's input lag is better than most TVs. And while
5:16 you will see some smearing and fastoving scenes, it's a far cry better than value
5:23 monitors from 10 years ago. So, do we recommend it? Actually, yeah. It's a
5:30 great value. And if you're hung up on the crappy stand, don't worry. An
5:34 additional 40 bucks will get you the number two bestselling monitor, which is
5:38 also from HP and basically the same, but
5:42 an inch bigger and with a Vasa compatible pivoting stand.
