0:03 all right ladies and gentlemen welcome to the when show we're
0:08 technically here get this out of my face yeah
0:12 no i want it in my face put it in my face
0:16 you're not letting me remove it
0:20 once you put it in my face you got to leave it there um at least for a little
0:23 while for a little while let me savor it
0:27 all right so we've got a great show for you guys today i think i actually have
0:31 no idea it's been off to a pretty rough start to be perfectly honest with you i can't
0:35 even check if i wanted to yeah luke's got an update that's sitting at 23 thank
0:39 you dual core laptops yeah i am so glad
0:43 that as of 8th gen you're gone forever
0:46 did someone if someone raised your chair again do you want to but when people
0:50 like when people come on WAN Show they need to just not
0:53 dink around with anything or did they not
0:56 that's it well why is it framed like this did someone mess with mine
1:02 you know what forget it who cares uh maybe your chair is too low
1:06 counter-strike co-creator suspended after being arrested for child
1:09 exploitation um well my head's getting cut off yeah i know well like mine too now let's just
1:15 hi uh
1:18 i'm i'm calling max i'm such a wonderful show i'm summoning you beautiful show
1:22 the best show um okay no further details yet other than
1:26 the other details that we have that we'll tell you about later uh AMD suggests that mining may be profitable
1:32 on threadripper
1:35 i don't even i have i'm not even laughing because i like know that it isn't or that it is it's just like
1:41 please miners buy our stuff too
1:44 buy more of our stuff miners you're making us so much money please um
1:49 all right elon musk uh released a flame
1:52 thrower yeah what is it called the boring company yeah all right so we'll
1:56 talk about that later i guess and apple
1:59 sells fewer iphones but profits rise
2:02 wow this is some boring boring stuff i'm
2:06 so interested in apple making lots of money we'll find out other things to
2:10 talk about i guess
2:16 so i had you lower it max but i think what ultimately happened was someone
2:19 adjusted my chair tight
2:22 because luke's and my head was supposed to be at about the same height because we're maintaining the illusion that i'm
2:27 not homunculus so um
2:32 but trying didn't even faze at all
2:36 no one's cool we can't see it no i do not want an apple box to sit on
2:41 what are you brandon
2:44 no no no bad new brandon
2:50 bye just slouch a bit
2:55 terrible welcome to the lan show oh man is this update still at 20 28 it's gonna
3:01 go like the whole show you're not even gonna have a laptop for the show today
3:06 oh man you know what
3:11 i would i would even say it's been that kind of week but it actually hasn't it's
3:16 been an okay week i actually had an okay week yeah well you know no wait hold on
3:21 a second i forgot about all the drama at the beginning of the week what with the
3:25 oh yeah you know about you right
3:28 i was a latecomer okay because i i had no idea
3:32 i had no idea what was happening while it was happening yeah and then i was like just cruising through Floatplane to
3:37 make sure everything was going good and i saw like you were like what a mess
3:41 where did this come from well no i saw like that thread and i was like i'm confused and then i watched like two
3:46 minutes of it and was like i don't have time for this and i don't care and then
3:49 i scrolled down and was like most the comments don't seem to care
3:53 oh oh on our side on our site yes yeah
3:56 and then i heard about the tweet and then i was like whoa and then i moved on yeah it totally blew
4:01 up um a lot of people have sort of asked me for comments but i've oh i've said
4:06 pretty much everything no no it's that's a scheduled shutdown i've said pretty
4:09 much everything i have to say in an unlisted live stream that you should
4:13 have gotten four notifications about i was so mad like it's so mad okay i have a 15
4:19 megabit app connection at home i am i've watched that part down the
4:23 hall from a thousand dollar access point which
4:27 those of you have been watching a long time no focus that i used to have a lot
4:30 of issues with wi-fi so eventually
4:33 finally about three years ago i was like i am so
4:37 done with this like what gives me more satisfaction in
4:40 my daily life another graphics card for sli no or
4:46 wi-fi that works all the time i think i'm gonna do by the way i think
4:50 i might do another wtf is going on with this live video really because i think
4:55 it almost needs an update it doesn't actually change that much
4:59 it's like neither of them want to support it AMD's like no completely and
5:04 videos like sort of two other than that
5:07 no NVIDIA likes people putting two graphics cards in their system honestly
5:11 i think for them it's less even about the money and more about just like that
5:16 a GPU is a status symbol yeah um
5:20 but the the game developer support is
5:24 basically non-existent and before the
5:28 i don't know why we're talking about this i guess there's no good topics so we might as well um before the mentality
5:33 from the the hardware guys seemed to be that they just show up to your
5:37 development studio before your game came out and would be like no
5:41 you now support sli and crossfire and then now they just don't and because
5:46 they're not there isn't support for you i don't know
5:49 it's it's been a terrible experience like assassin's creed origins if you ran
5:53 with sli enabled the game would run it would just run way worse than it would
5:58 have ran otherwise which is like completely not the experience that you
6:01 should have i don't know it's been it's been rough
6:05 for the multiple graphics card guys and the future doesn't look any better
6:09 at all yeah so i don't remember where we how we got onto this topic a little bit
6:14 uh you were talking about this the you preferring having like a sweet ap versus
6:18 a sweet graphics yeah so i decided that wi-fi was actually more important to me
6:22 than a few frames per second so i got a baller access point so i was streaming
6:26 through the youtube app on a pixel 2 xl so i was as google as i could possibly
6:31 be and i sent out the interesting part i managed to send out three
6:36 notifications to people each time i went live which
6:39 three each time no no no one each time okay three one for each time i went live
6:44 and then the streams would just stop i got a i got a screen grab of uh actually
6:49 you know like unhappy face i can probably grab it but yeah like um
6:54 it would just give me this error and be like yup
6:58 your stream is down whoa
7:03 um and it doesn't seem to have uploaded to
7:07 that's my thumbnail i know yeah because just the the eye i couldn't eye
7:11 roll enough i actually tried to eye roll more that was the most that was the most
7:15 that i could physically roll my eyes um but i just got this your stream has
7:19 failed message and and it would just stop and then what i've discovered now
7:24 is that you can't you have no way of undoing
7:29 those notifications that are sitting in people's feeds so i was getting messages
7:32 from people for the next couple days
7:36 they'd screenshot these four notifications in a row they'd be like wtf is this and i'm just kind of sitting
7:40 here going i'm sorry i can't reply to every single one of you i don't like it
7:44 either trust me it's dumb but i i can't do anything
7:48 about it so i finally streamed on the iphone 10 instead
7:53 and it worked perfectly that's like something like if you're if
7:56 you're twitch streaming and say obs crashes or your computer blue screens or
8:00 something and you need to go twitch stream again yeah it sends the email
8:03 version of the notification to everyone i disabled the auto tweet one because of
8:08 that on like most like ours doesn't do it mine doesn't do it i most people that
8:12 i help it doesn't do it anymore yeah but it will still email everyone and people
8:16 still get the phone notification right so it's pretty yeah it's pretty
8:20 frustrating like it would be nice to have it you know be resumable or
8:24 something like if especially because the app itself didn't crash it was just like
8:28 your stream is stopped we'll start it again
8:32 and i understand i do understand that
8:36 whether it's down to uh you know codex requiring files to be closed out or
8:41 whether it's down to any number of reasons that it's actually
8:44 not like trivially simple i do get that but
8:48 there has to be a better system than what we have now especially if you stream for like one minute and then you
8:54 stream again like i would i would i would like for it to be a little bit
8:57 smarter than that um so anyway i said pretty much everything i had to say
9:01 there you guys can check that out if you want you probably have a notification if you're subscribed but
9:05 um in a nutshell people were mad because
9:08 i confused a tampon and a pad because
9:12 the title said tampon okay in the thumbnail i was holding a pad
9:16 i don't know we probably shouldn't get into it i just i just don't understand
9:19 um yeah we probably shouldn't we probably shouldn't get into it because
9:23 all we stand to do yeah all we stand to gain is more
9:26 articles on mashable daily mail really and some yeah oh yeah
9:31 like there are there are like articles about about this controversy that i'm
9:36 kind of sitting here going okay like i guess i guess that's a thing that
9:40 we need to write about today okay um i'm just gonna not comment let's move on yep
9:46 so i don't i don't even want to cover this first topic either what's the first
9:50 topic today the counter-strike thing oh yeah there's not really a lot to say
9:55 well no it specifically says was not charged with a crime so i don't really
10:00 want to cover it because we're just like throwing this dude under the bus when he
10:03 wasn't charged with a crime maybe if anything concrete comes out of it yeah i
10:07 don't like the idea of just throwing his name under the bus when he's not
10:12 uh arrested suspended by valve
10:16 um yeah it's a suspension they're probably waiting till they
10:21 okay statement from valve suspended from the developer while the company
10:24 investigates does not have a criminal history so in a nutshell we're not going to name
10:29 any names it doesn't look like anything's really happened here but one
10:32 of the co-creators of counter-strike has been arrested and suspended from
10:36 valve and uh there's what's weird is that
10:42 he's been arrested but not charged with a crime and the police
10:46 didn't say if an actual child was harmed
10:50 he has no criminal history and of course the local news station is
10:55 speculating as to you know what this might mean
11:00 but no one has actually indicated that they know exactly what's going on here
11:04 so let's move into oh man
11:09 why would AMD even bring this up
11:13 so this article from pcgamesn.com what does this mean for
11:17 AMD's reputation that's an interesting thing for me because so many gamers
11:21 right now are really upset about lack of stock of parts
11:26 about prices of things going up
11:30 and the person or the group that everyone
11:33 loves to hate is theoretically fighting against it at
11:37 least in statement i don't know outside of that yeah but NVIDIA has stated at
11:41 least i don't again i don't know outside of that they might be doing something i
11:45 don't know if they are or not um that they that they are trying or they want
11:49 gamers to still be able to buy graphics cards and stuff AMD i don't think has
11:53 stated anything about graphics cards as far as i know i could be ignorant on that topic it's not like my laptop's
11:57 working right now um this might take several minutes yeah you
12:01 bet it will but but is actively encouraging people
12:05 to buy cpus for mining so they're trying to potentially crush the other side of
12:09 the market and right now with everyone being mad at like what is it micro
12:13 center or something i don't know because they're like bundling gpus with whole
12:18 platforms but if you buy the whole platform you get the GPU at msrp
12:24 okay sure but like if you don't you get it at
12:27 a cranked up price right yeah that makes sense so it makes it tough for upgraders
12:31 but that's but then upgraders are a huge part of the market because yeah you
12:35 don't have to upgrade your CPU that often yep
12:38 so anyway the what what leads up what leads you
12:42 know we should probably straw pull this but what led us to this conversation is
12:45 that AMD's technical marketing manager damien trillit believes that there's
12:50 massive potential for home mining rigs with their threadripper cpus and there's
12:55 a few details here let's go through the like stuff that was said first and then
12:59 we'll get into all the problems with this because there are some
13:02 um so kryptonite can be mined with cpus that have about two megs of level three
13:06 cache per mining thread level three cache is important for CPU mining yeah
13:10 so this rules out almost all asic mining machines that are so far in production
13:14 but favors cpus with high level three cache per core which threadripper is
13:19 designed for okay so we also said cpus could be
13:23 acceptable for mining if they could handle very few threads very fast and
13:26 that's exactly what threadripper's able to do threadripper comes with up to 32
13:30 megs of level 3 cash and it can keep the data set in cash what speeds up crypto
13:35 mining a lot blah blah blah so with two mags per
13:38 thread a threadripper 1950x could run around 15 active mining threads not bad
13:45 that would allow it to get in about the same ballpark as rx vega and it will be
13:49 much faster for example this is all quoting them much faster than a 1080 ti
13:54 for example in kryptonite uh each Intel's htt chips have far less level
13:58 three cash per core um he believes that a threadripper could
14:04 be capable of accumulating around 90 a month through the nice hash mining
14:07 program though of course uh let me just check my handy-dandy how
14:11 much has the market fallen yeah
14:15 uh you know calculator here and it's dropped
14:19 honestly this is not reflective of what happened yesterday so it's probably somewhere in the neighborhood of like 30
14:23 plus percent in the last couple of days um
14:28 dude so your mileage may vary now of
14:32 course um you could also go back up or it could go down 80 more i heard
14:36 something happened last january as well so there could be a seasonal pretty sure
14:40 it's every january yeah there could be a seasonal element to this but um or there
14:44 might not be who knows maybe every other january was just a coincidence and maybe
14:48 this one is too or maybe this is the end of times who knows the end of mining um
14:55 anyway so using his estimated earnings a
14:59 threadripper1920x would see a return beyond its own msrp of around 760
15:03 dollars in just under nine months
15:06 so oh oh yeah
15:10 i'm not reading james you have to do it you do it is AMD trying to cash
15:15 in on that cryptocurrency c-a-c-h-e
15:21 terrible okay so penny problem number one is the
15:26 perception problem yeah i think that's huge
15:30 because you look at how many people were mad about the piece that we did on
15:34 cryptocurrency mining what was it a week ago two weeks ago
15:37 something like that did you check out mining adventure part two part three
15:40 yeah uh part two the one with the gpus i've seen all of them okay you've seen
15:44 all of them so mining adventure part two roughly i would skip through it we
15:48 covered um building a more optimized GPU mining
15:53 machine and that got 40 000 likes which
15:57 is pretty good wow but also 10 000
16:00 dislikes yeah because the gamers so just over a fifth of you guys were mad enough
16:06 that on a piece of content that i thought was pretty good whether you like
16:11 mining or not i thought it was interesting um Jake did a lot of
16:15 research on this one we ended up with a pretty cool rig
16:18 pretty optimized configuration anyway people were so mad that we got a
16:24 fifth of you like pressing the dislike button to show your
16:28 dissatisfaction with us even covering this stuff and there's eight thousand
16:31 comments on it eight thousand i don't know who they should be mad at well okay
16:34 i know at least one group that they should be mad at outside of that i don't know if they should or should not be mad
16:38 at other groups yeah uh but gamers i understand the GPU market is terrible
16:43 right now yeah it's crazy i would not want to be building a computer i wouldn't build a computer
16:48 i tweeted out like way before the whole internet made articles about
16:52 it and then some people were like oh they copied you it's like no they didn't put whatever i still try but they
16:56 figured it out independently yeah yeah it's a pretty common thought but buying
16:59 consoles right now yeah is like actually if you just want a game
17:05 a pretty decent item like not a bad bet yeah and the crazy thing is you look at
17:09 how quickly this happened oh because if you go back to mining adventure part one
17:14 which it was fine back by many accounts or by
17:17 or by a lot of accounts is a worse video
17:20 yeah because we we did not
17:24 try to build something optimized we actually
17:27 went at it from a completely unoptimized way it's amazing by the way here's the
17:31 point it's amazing how many comments there are on that video about how poorly
17:35 optimized the build is that was the point even though we said it right in the video
17:39 that that was what exactly what we were doing uh it's amazing how many people try
17:44 really really hard to not understand a video
17:48 anyway um so that had 50 000 likes and just
17:52 1600 dislikes that's about 97 and then
17:56 this one's closer to 80. so the whole public perception was like this is okay
18:00 and then this is suddenly not okay so that's true again it makes sense from
18:04 mid-november to mid-january
18:07 two months and the perception changed that much around GPU mining well it went
18:12 from like where i think is a good spot for it to
18:16 be which is like oh gamers you can like
18:20 make some more money doing this yeah and like if you if you have a couple gpus
18:23 around or you want an excuse to play with hardware and buy some more graphics
18:26 cards you can do this it went from that to like
18:30 i'm getting a warehouse and then people got really upset about
18:34 that right okay the solution
18:37 Linus coin did you see Jake's tweet no you're
18:42 saying instead of float coin we should call it sync coin saint coin sync sync because the
18:47 market's sinking
18:50 and because of it's same coin because you should sink your investment into it
18:54 all of it literally all of it yeah so
18:58 so i think we've pretty much decided we have kind of talked about it a little
19:02 bit to be clear when luke initially brought it up total joke in paul's video
19:08 not a thing we had even talked about no at all
19:12 i still don't want to call it float coin pure legend we don't have to okay okay
19:16 um but we've talked about it we're gonna do a
19:19 coin and we're gonna do it as part of mining
19:23 adventure and the point that we're going to be trying to make is that and i
19:27 really want you guys to listen really carefully just turn off the radio
19:33 kids don't listen to the radio anymore turn off the whatever else whatever
19:36 audio noise pollution you have around you turn off the twitch streams listen
19:40 really carefully we are creating this video
19:44 to demonstrate how
19:47 a coin can be created for purely
19:51 exploitative purposes because a lot of them are because a lot of them are we
19:54 will be going through the procedure and showing you guys how it is done and
19:59 we'll be listing like a lot of the different ways that it could be done and
20:03 then we'll be picking a few yep and we'll be going that route yep well you
20:07 guys will so if you guys decide to mine it
20:11 by all means mine it if you guys decide to buy some by all means do it but let
20:15 me tell you guys right now our coin aside from if we can find some purpose
20:20 for it where you can like use it for uh voting on wan showers voting on lan show
20:25 or like uh some kind of access to a special sub forum on the forum or
20:29 whatever like we might come up with like a couple a couple LMG or Floatplane related
20:33 things you can do with it and those would largely be a part of the experiment of
20:37 getting people to use it essentially but
20:41 expect it to crash because in the long term we do not have
20:45 either the technical know-how or the inclination
20:50 to follow this through and make it a technologically superior coin which is
20:55 yeah it won't be we're going to fork someone else's thing do do no special
20:59 advancements to it yes and run forward yes so expect it to be that which is
21:05 common now i realized i talked for a really long time so
21:10 if anyone tuned out here's the bottom line
21:14 if you didn't listen to everything i just said don't mind any and don't buy it
21:21 everybody got that yes yeah okay
21:24 that's good uh now it's time for our sponsors hold on one quick thing if do
21:29 want to know about um
21:32 CPU mining i believe i believe ufd tech has done a video on
21:36 like is it worth it i don't know if we're going to go down that route oh i
21:40 actually haven't i wanted to talk about a few things to do with this okay after
21:44 after these messages from our sponsors we're going to talk about a few things from the
21:47 no way what up oh these are cool it comes with
21:51 swappable uh the kids ones oh oh okay
21:55 never mind i thought it was like just purple and and for adults yeah so those
21:59 those can come off easily and they bend easily and they won't break and all that
22:03 kind of film with this one this week all right so spectrum
22:07 glasses my friends spectrum glasses are
22:10 all about keeping that blue light out of
22:14 your eyes staring at a monitor all day can be hard
22:18 on your eyes over time and make it tougher to fall asleep
22:21 so compared to a software solution spectrum gives you better filtering of
22:26 blue light features include that they are stylish
22:30 and you guys can check out their site they've actually got tons of different
22:33 styles to choose from they're high quality they come with a one year warranty and they have low color
22:38 distortion so the idea is to block high energy blue light while keeping colors
22:43 as similar as possible to be very clear you're still going to have to flip up
22:47 your glasses if you wanted to do some like color accurate work but if you're
22:51 reading text or working on spreadsheets or powerpoint presentations or whatever
22:54 the case may be you won't be sitting there working on it with your spectrum
22:58 glasses and then like you know save it and walk
23:01 away and then go to present it to someone you're like oh that's supposed to be red it's orange
23:05 not going to be a thing they're primarily focused on the canadian and
23:08 u.s markets but they are expanding to europe oh that's cool and they offer
23:13 international shipping check them out at spectrumglasses.com
23:16 collections slash prospect or click this
23:19 link and use offer code Linus to save ten percent
23:24 i'm going to copy that link into the twitch chat so you guys can go check
23:28 them out and you can look almost as cool as me almost i'm wearing big headphones around
23:32 my neck which makes me look super cool that was a thing for a while i know why
23:36 was that a thing why
23:39 i know why because of beats by dre why were those a thing
23:43 why are they still a thing actually i've heard the latest ones are
23:46 pretty good i haven't actually tried them i suspect apple might
23:50 improve them a little bit oops there's this but you know i don't know
23:54 i think apple's bar for audio is like
23:57 good enough and clearly when they bought the brand
24:01 it was already good enough was it well the solo twos are apparently pretty good
24:05 oh i don't know tyler herzog likes them the only ones i've tried were garbage
24:10 but i've only tried like one or two pairs i only tried the og ones yeah and
24:13 they were awful yeah i did like the really old-school black and reds right i
24:17 remember i remember trying to talk one of my old colleagues at ncix out of
24:22 buying them like i i did my video on them and he was
24:26 like yeah so like i want to buy them but it's a lot of money they're like 400
24:30 it's a lot of money are they any good and i'm like
24:34 no and he's like well i mean they look
24:37 really cool and i just like i thought maybe they'd be pretty good and i was like they're not
24:41 and he's like well i was just like i mean maybe they're like good enough and
24:45 i'm like they're not good and you need to change the batteries like every other day
24:51 so they're not good there's a change that they weren't charging they didn't work at all
24:56 they didn't work at all without the batteries two triple a's okay yeah and
25:02 he was like yeah you know what i'm just i'm gonna get them and i'm like
25:05 why do i even that was the point where i realized
25:09 that no matter what i say in these videos people are just going to do whatever it
25:14 is that they're going to do like it's actually amazing how little
25:17 influence that i have as an influencer yep and on that subject
25:23 squarespace yeah if you're going to build a website please listen use
25:27 squarespace okay it's really easy

25:38 device and your site just i mean squarespace doesn't advertise this this
25:42 is not one of their talking points but like your site never goes down yeah like
25:46 our site has been up for like four years or whatever like i have never
25:50 i don't i don't think it's ever been down nope it's amazing we've tried well
25:54 we haven't like okay we've had the land show
25:57 zero aggression yeah yep um it's awesome they've got 24 7 support via live chat
26:02 and email and tons of great features including every website having a free

26:37 someone said it's down it's not i checked lol get on
26:42 freshbooks is the super simple to use invoicing tool that actually does a lot
26:46 more than help you create and send slick looking invoices hey this is new talking
26:50 points you can track your time with their timesheet function manage your
26:54 expenses with their expense function and keep track of who
26:58 owes you what with their who owes you what function also it has a feature to tell you when
27:02 the client looks at your invoice for the first time so that if they're like oh
27:06 hey yeah could you be send that i didn't get it you could be like
27:10 sure yeah let me resend that to you because realistically what what purpose
27:14 does it serve to fight with them about it but you'll know that they're good for tracking on your side you'll know and
27:19 you're hard of hearing if they say they didn't get it the second time then you can be like all right we need to fix
27:23 this yeah um they have fully featured apps for iOS and Android with all of the
27:27 functionality of the whole platform and it's great if you're a freelancer or
27:31 small business owner and you're looking to spend more time doing your job and
27:34 spending instead of spending more time figuring out how to account for it if
27:39 you have any questions there's support staff you just talk to a person there's no
27:43 phone tree no nothing like that and they'd be happy to help you and you can go to freshbooks.com
27:47 and get a free trial today enter when and how did you hear about us section
27:54 all right let's go back to why CPU mining doesn't make any sense so first
27:57 of all um okay part of mining adventure should you
28:01 do a like the other ways video and do like hard
28:05 drive and CPU well hard drive's coming oh okay yeah that that's mining
28:09 adventure side quest did you get GPU working it's not good uh i haven't yet i
28:13 figured it out though you just need to use a different plotter yes yeah so yeah
28:17 like i just it's a yeah it's slightly more complicated than that yeah um but
28:20 yes i don't care anymore because i'm using a dual 22 core system and i am
28:25 getting uh up to about 70 to 80 000
28:28 nonces per minute on CPU
28:32 so i have um so i have four
28:36 four instances running at a time because there seems to be some kind of
28:39 limitation that's capping me at 60 CPU usage so i've got four running at a time
28:43 so while one of them is committing to the dr while two of them are committing
28:46 to drives the other two are running and then these ones will kick back in and
28:51 then those ones will kind of run through creating nonces and then they'll be committing them to drives and these two
28:55 will be running so overnight i was actually able to do over 10 terabytes on
29:00 a single rig with CPU plotting so
29:03 anyway to be clear i'm not running out and buying all the hard drives put away the
29:07 pitch forks um i'm just experimenting with burst coin because it's this coin
29:12 that you mine by just allocating empty hard drive space to it and it doesn't
29:16 seem to so in further research and actually doing it a little bit myself
29:20 yeah once it's plotted yeah it doesn't seem to hurt the drive
29:24 okay at um plotting though yeah you're hitting the
29:28 drive really rough yeah yeah like really rough so from talking to guys in the
29:33 burst community they're saying that it doesn't hurt it any more than normal use
29:37 would yeah so i'm still not doing it on petabyte project yeah no because i just
29:41 don't even want them spinning if they don't have to be yeah um but on all
29:45 these like janky drives that i had sitting in literally sitting in boxes
29:48 around the warehouse why not might as well um so before i go
29:53 for the weekend i'm gonna load up as many drives as i can on that system
29:58 run them through all weekend and then by sort of next week i should actually have
30:01 it all going so far i've made five dollars nice yeah there
30:07 you go do you have much more than that i've spent on electricity a lot
30:12 i don't know exactly how much but a lot
30:15 you can do dynamic plotting too are you going to do that uh no i'm actually not
30:19 familiar with dynamic dynamic plotting is uh
30:24 you are able to use the drive oh as you add more data to it the plot
30:29 will make itself smaller no i probably won't do that and you set an offset so
30:32 that you have room to put stuff and then you put the stuff there and then it will shrink itself we can discuss it in the
30:37 video but that's like not really the approach i'm taking you saw the machine
30:41 i'm using no i know i'm just saying for for people that have like
30:44 it's already getting to the point where it's probably not that practical to try
30:48 to mine with just like the drive in your computer depending on the pool you join
30:51 so the the difficulty so okay i'll get into this in the video but
30:56 the more capacity you have the easier it is to respond to a job in time in sort
31:02 of very very simple terms and so different pools you know if
31:06 that's on a per machine basis or a per address um
31:13 that's a great question wonderful question no idea okay um
31:18 anyway so different pools will have different
31:22 thresholds for how quickly you need to be able to respond to a job in order to
31:26 benefit from the pool yeah because if you're just someone with like 300 megs
31:31 and you're like never never going to
31:35 actually discover a coin because it's like each amount of
31:40 capacity is kind of like buying more and more lottery tickets so if you just have
31:43 like a tiny tiny amount you're basically just piggybacking off of the success of
31:47 the big people in the pool so some pools have very strict requirements for how
31:52 much capacity you have to have in order to be considered a contributing member
31:56 and in order to allow you to join so what you could do is you could join one
31:59 of those pools even if you have a hundred megs of data but you would just
32:03 never qualify and your entries would just be rejected
32:07 every time you would never benefited just hit your drive from plotting
32:10 and then never again and then never gain anything and then there's much much
32:14 looser pools that have really really long times but those ones are full of a bunch of
32:19 losers that you know no one like are individually
32:22 going to find almost nothing um so anyway right now it's kind of like a
32:26 weird stage where to get the most out of it you really do need a lot of drives
32:30 like it's kind of transitioning that way interesting not surprised
32:34 so back to cpus um so AMD has made a couple fundamental
32:39 errors here number one is calculating roi time roi time is a
32:44 flawed calculation because it is very easy to underestimate it or overestimate
32:49 it you can't just look at how much it's bringing in today and go yes that is
32:54 going to pay for itself in amount of time x because because saying
32:58 it will pay for itself in amount of time x if nothing changes is just a sentence
33:03 that doesn't matter yeah it will change it depends when and if you cash out um
33:08 it depends what currencies you're mining et cetera et cetera et cetera et cetera
33:11 et cetera it depends on whether you will even still be able to mine that
33:16 particular algorithm um yeah nine months
33:19 down the road on a CPU uh so yeah depends on a lot of stuff
33:24 problem number the second is that there's more to the cost of a
33:28 threadripper CPU than the cost of the CPU itself
33:32 so threadripper motherboards are like 300
33:35 plus dollars normal mining motherboards are in the
33:40 neighborhood of a hundred plus to around 200 for something like ASUS's
33:45 b250 mining and you're going pretty hard if you go to that yeah
33:49 the other issue here is that you could kind of go oh okay well Threadripper is
33:53 only like you know 50 to so double to 50
33:58 more than a regular motherboard but you can effectively make use of the CPU
34:02 socket as another mining you know uh
34:06 node or whatever you want to call it as another miner
34:10 except the problem with that is that threadripper is limited to what is it
34:14 seven PCIe devices or eight something like that yeah so you could
34:18 never have a threadripper mining optimized board
34:23 because you could never plug in enough gpus
34:28 to account for this difference in cost so while yes theoretically you could
34:33 mine on threadripper you would not do that if you were
34:38 actually trying to build an optimized dedicated mining machine you might not
34:43 be though if you're picking a CPU for your home rig and you want to like mine
34:46 overnight it would double your roi time for one
34:49 because you're not 24 7 mining but if you wanted like a beast machine CPU
34:56 there's another problem um yeah yeah i'm just not sold i also
35:01 wonder about power yeah power uh it's probably not any
35:06 worse than like remember they're comparing it to a vegas similar but
35:11 but you're taking away from your roi time
35:15 yep because power is a cost so that will delay your roi time which is a screwed
35:20 up thing to measure anyways i think it's a little it's borderline nefarious in my opinion
35:25 for a hardware company that isn't like selling asics because then who cares
35:30 anyways um to be like it'll pay for itself in nine months
35:35 that's a little uh i'm not super stoked on that personally
35:41 all right putting its like hash rates up and stuff
35:45 is fine maybe even if they do an article on like
35:48 this is why you need l3 cache yeah CPU
35:51 mic that makes makes a lot of sense it's like a blog post because a lot of people
35:55 don't understand l3 cache anyways yep so if you're like look this is a practical
35:59 application that needs a bunch of it um
36:02 that would be an interesting blog post all right some random youtube channel or
36:08 website or uh podcast or whatever picked that up
36:12 and was like oh my goodness you can man with cpus that's fine because that's
36:16 someone else doing that so you bought this yeah
36:20 is this even legal here okay
36:24 technically 100 yes
36:28 uh-huh it actually making it here
36:32 i'ma give it like a 50 chance uh-huh
36:36 my hope is that if they reject it i can just tell them to ship it somewhere else
36:39 uh-huh and then i'll just send it to my grandpa's or something and he can
36:44 get rid of scorpions 20 000 flame
36:47 throwers for 500 us dollars
36:52 they sold them within a couple of days yeah thanks twitch subscribers
36:57 um because they took paypal here's the caption here don't do this
37:01 also i want it to be clear that a flamethrower is a super terrible idea
37:04 definitely don't buy one unless you like fun
37:09 that's kind of lame i hadn't actually seen it fire yet that's really that's a
37:12 really short yeah it's short burst
37:16 okay which a lot of people were like oh that's because of laws and
37:21 apparently basically nowhere has regulations on so one of the reasons why
37:26 flamethrowers are not illegal in places yeah is because uh people use them as
37:32 like weed destruction torches basically uh-huh and
37:37 that's apparently really common in like a lot of farmland and stuff which you
37:40 think oh that's gonna start a forest fire apparently no because they just like do it properly and stuff i don't
37:45 know but yeah there's no regulations around it in
37:48 canada there is not a single beep about it in the firearms act uh it's it's
37:54 apparently completely allowed i even looked up import and custom stuff and
37:57 there's import and custom stuff about knives because i was talking about switchblades
38:03 yeah switchblades and stuff and i was talking about how i like um like pocket
38:06 knives on my stream once so someone sent me one and it got grabbed by customs and
38:10 customs was like we're keeping this forever screw you and i was like oh okay
38:14 well nothing i can do about that so i looked it up and yeah there's all the stuff about knives there's tons of stuff
38:19 about guns there's ways to do it properly with both of them because stores can do it you just can't do it
38:23 personally and you can let you have to set up as an entity to be able to import it and
38:28 nothing for flamethrowers
38:33 it's coming atf says any flamethrower with a flame shorter than 10
38:38 feet 10 feet is a-okay
38:41 our design is max fun for least danger
38:45 i'd be more scared of a steak knife
38:51 this guy is such a troll yeah
38:55 like he's such a troll so i want to cook with it
38:59 if i don't know what type of fuel it takes so i don't know if that's
39:02 possible um if it takes the right kind of fuel i
39:06 want to it's like propane or something it's like a no i think propane can no
39:11 you can with propane you can't with uh whatever tiki torches
39:15 no no no but tiki torches are like an oil what fuel is that okay oh yeah yeah
39:19 no it's going to be that it i mean i'm not an expert but
39:23 it looks like it could be a propane flame to me
39:26 it's very blue i don't see any reason why that would not be a propane flame
39:31 especially because that would make it really uh really cheap and really easy
39:35 to um to refuel
39:40 okay blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
39:45 sale drew criticism from a california politician who said he would introduce
39:48 legislation aimed at banning the flame throwers we don't allow people to walk
39:52 in off the street and purchase military-grade tanks or armor-piercing ammunition i cannot even begin to
39:57 imagine the problems a flamethrower would cause firefighters and police officers with that said this is hardly a
40:02 military-grade tank or arbitration ammunition
40:06 if you need this to start a fire this is basically a blow torch shaped like a gun
40:11 yeah like okay it's a little longer but like
40:14 if you can't go to the if you can't go to the hardware store i
40:17 can find something that'll make a fire easier than this then i don't know man
40:22 like honestly that flame has got to be
40:25 that's only maybe 18 inches maybe like
40:28 you can get you can get blow torches that'll do not
40:32 much shy of that and probably hotter if you can jog around an office with your
40:37 thing fully firing and everything's fine
40:40 yeah like you could like he's saying military grade whatever military if you
40:44 can run around an office shooting with a gun it's not gonna be fine
40:48 yeah okay i think it's hilarious so honestly now that i've seen it fire like
40:52 i was disappointed i didn't order one now i don't even care it looks kind of lame i'm assuming you can mod it
40:57 oh oh you figure maybe you can mod it maybe
41:01 but it depends on the fuel like something like propane i doubt it yeah i don't know if it is so maybe maybe
41:05 people are spamming the chat telling us what it is um canadian firearms law is so weird
41:12 22 stub nose pistol nope you might hurt yourself well technically a cannon you
41:16 can get in the same classification as a rifle
41:21 is such a joke it's so bad most stuff is classified by name instead of by
41:25 specification so there's a lot of things that like look scary that are banned and
41:29 there's things that are way scarier that don't look super scary so they're not
41:33 bandaged it's so weird
41:38 apparently tiki torches use butane someone's backs me up that it looks like
41:42 it looks like prophase what kind of tiki torches are we thinking then because i'm talking about those ones with like the
41:46 wick and the like kind of wicker thing around it i have no idea what they take
41:50 i thought they just used like uh like a wick soaked in a thing and they had like
41:54 that lemon smell am i thinking of something else what is the tiki torch
41:58 tiki torch fuel citron
42:03 yeah no that's not that's not like i thought this is like a like a wax or
42:08 like an oil look at the way it burns i could be wrong though
42:12 tiki torch fuel like the things that we end up i don't i don't think it's a wax
42:18 um something something
42:22 it doesn't say america's number one torch fuel pre-filled paradise in your
42:26 backyard oh wow please just tell me what is in it
42:30 thank you i wish you would just tell me what's in it
42:34 oh man tiki torch fuel american sail.com
42:38 with lemongrass oil oh my goodness okay well either way they have a lot of like
42:42 it's scented with this or it has whatever else eucalyptus formula
42:46 ah i'm dying it's kerosene kerosene
42:50 kerosene oil keeps the bugs away yeah yeah but that's not what makes there you go no
42:54 there's different kinds this is why it's hard to find paraffin
42:58 tiki green whatever this is but like that's like paraffin's a wax
43:02 type okay but yeah just something with a wick in it like it's totally different
43:07 from from this um yeah i don't know if anyone actually
43:11 knows let's see i don't think you burn
43:14 citronella i think that's the yeah that's the scent crap yeah why switched
43:18 out is spamming cintronella i think that's what like makes it smell good or
43:22 keeps the bugs away or something apparently the slo-mo guys did a cool video using tiki torch oil what haven't
43:26 they done a cool video about that's fair
43:30 all right a lot of people saying kerosene oh finally
43:35 Windows 10 defender is finally going to block those shady free pc optimizer
43:40 applications about time this was posted by tech
43:43 dreamer on the forum and the original article is from cloudblogs.microsoft.com
43:48 protecting customers from being intimidated into making an unnecessary
43:52 purchase how did this take so long i mean i'm not mad like this is like the
43:57 main thing that they should have been blocking wow there was something else that i was
44:00 like really mad about yeah how do you know why does Windows not have a built-in
44:04 screen recorder at this point outside of games how is it that iOS has this
44:10 and Windows doesn't like there's just some baffling stuff that they haven't
44:14 built in there's so okay have you heard i don't think it's in the dock but have
44:18 you heard the rumors of uh the companies microsoft is interested
44:21 in buying no uh oh yeah it's propane uh just go to
44:25 their website 20 ounce propane there you go so there's no way you're going to get
44:29 a pro point propane flame much longer than that so change what fuel it is
44:34 yeah i don't know we're talking like okay to be clear i think there are going
44:39 to be people putting new rags in them and they're going to be people changing
44:43 out the gas i don't care sure i'm not going to do it
44:47 but um i i think it's gonna be i'm gonna go help my friend who lives on a farm
44:51 clear uh blackberry bushes with it
44:54 because that sounds fun right all right anyway that's what i'll do
44:58 what were you saying about the uh so this is like super rumor mill
45:02 stuff and to be clear i'm pretty sure if anything
45:05 i think it's like insider information which is super rumor mill no no no i
45:10 didn't hear this directly this is posted on some website sure okay um
45:13 and it was very much like they're interested in doing this not those other companies
45:18 are also okay with it sure so and one of them i'm very sure is not okay with it
45:23 um but pubg corp
45:27 what ea what
45:30 and valve which they technically have the warchest
45:34 money to deal with but like i'm sure the last one is not okay exactly yeah
45:39 they're not okay with it pubg corp
45:43 it sounds like they're micro uh their minecraft acquisition yeah hey this is
45:46 already popular and everyone already bought it let's now buy it to
45:51 we're not really sure um but okay microtransaction actually yeah part of
45:54 the idea behind that sorry i just remembered was not letting it go to
45:57 playstation because it's a timed microsoft xbox
46:01 exclusive and i guess they're they might be trying
46:05 to buy it before it can go to playstation and i heard that the idea of
46:09 them acquiring ea is to get a whole bunch of excuses can i
46:12 let me cut you off right there if microsoft wanted a game studio
46:18 why did they get rid of microsoft game studios
46:21 where's a mic need a mic
46:25 well they're still making microsoft games
46:29 because like uh whatever that new pirates game sea of thieves is like a
46:33 microsoft game yeah like not much they used to be an actual major game
46:37 developer yeah well i'm assuming maybe they want to get back into that i don't
46:41 know okay so the ea acquisition idea is interesting
46:45 because there's a lot of ways to hate that because more exclusives for xbox
46:49 and stuff um but i mean everyone already
46:52 hates ea pretty much at a maximum capacity already so yeah
46:56 maybe they can't hate them even more i don't know maybe it's not that big of a
47:00 deal i don't know
47:03 um yeah i don't think any of that's going to happen i just wanted to bring up
47:06 microsoft stuff um all right what else we got here this is
47:12 all boring uh apple delays iOS features to focus on stability that seems like a
47:16 good idea couldn't use uh speaking of built-in screen recording couldn't use
47:19 it today without rebooting it would list it it would just go
47:23 and then you can stop it and then the clip would just be gone yeah we tried a
47:26 few times it was broken um for iOS 12 they've been working on a redesigned
47:30 home screen app grid hopefully by redesign they mean exactly
47:35 the same except i can move stuff where i want it uh multiplayer mode for
47:38 augmented reality games ah augmented reality is so bad
47:44 like it is so bad
47:48 we're just we're not even close we're so many years away he's okay
47:53 it's bad max it's bad
47:56 what can i help you with no we're streaming
48:03 um uh a merger of the third party
48:07 applications running somewhere iphone's max do i
48:10 ivan told me you didn't have time after work um okay improvements to facetime um
48:16 longest standing video game record was thrown out after 35 years this was by
48:20 todd rogers it was for his dragster record yeah obviously it was impossible
48:25 because it's like physically impossible to happen in the game so are a lot of
48:28 his like 1400 other video game records a lot of
48:32 them are physically impossible including records that are like not
48:36 actually able to be gotten in the game because like your score goes up in
48:40 increments that his score isn't at like a lot of the games they'll be in
48:44 increments of like 10 and his score will end in like a five and it's like that
48:48 it's not how that works um or he'll play donkey kong and like the next highest
48:52 person is like 10 million points below him um yeah no it's super bs and uh
48:59 uh where is it sorry give me one second
49:02 twin galaxies records he has so many records in twin galaxies that make no
49:07 sense at all um and like and they're the official
49:10 source for guinness's world records and a lot of
49:14 a lot a lot or all of his records were posted through
49:18 one person who's now like in jail and like the tapes were seized by the
49:23 police so he's like oh yeah all the tapes of my records are just gone because of that but then people have
49:27 contacted the police they're like uh no we returned them all and there's like
49:30 basically none um so yeah todd todd rogers records super bs
49:36 moving on now his personal website offered a simple
49:40 explanation of how he achieved his unbeatable time uh while maintaining
49:44 that activision's certification of his time highlighted in one of the company's
49:48 newsletters was enough to cement his place on the gaming leaderboards
49:52 great that's makes sense there's even like someone took apart
49:57 a game and found that like one of the games that he played it's electronically
50:01 impossible for him to get the score that he got there's another game where um i
50:06 can't remember what it's called barnstorming or something like that you fly a plane and you have to fly through
50:11 barns and you have to dodge other things they removed all the ops and so it when you
50:16 go up and down to dodge obstacles you lose a little bit of horizontal speed so
50:20 you're supposed to skim things right you're supposed to move up and down as little as possible and go straight as
50:24 you can but you have to move a little bit so they removed all the obstacles
50:28 from the game and just flew in a straight line and didn't even make his time
