0:00 there are a number of important things that separate AMD from Intel in the CPU
0:05 Market these days here are just a few product called Threadripper AMD yes
0:11 Intel no gigantic package AMD yes Intel
0:16 no debuted at LTX amds Intel no but if
0:21 the name and the sheer size and girth of
0:25 AMD's new socket TR4 platform isn't
0:29 enough to sell you on it then stick around because we're about to open it up
0:34 and see if what's inside rips team blue
0:39 a new
0:48 one the be quiet! dark Bas Pro 900s
0:52 modular design supports a variety of different layouts and configurations

1:00 Ripper AMD's latest and greatest in more
1:04 ways than one release for the Zen
1:07 microarchitecture that threatens to hit Intel where it hurts the high-end
1:12 desktop and workstation this is a really big deal because the last time AMD had
1:18 any punching power in this weight class optons were still a thing people wanted
1:23 to buy and you could still get a decent AGP graphics card it can be argued that
1:28 ryzen 7 positioned against the core i7
1:32 6900 K had a lot of appeal but it lacked
1:36 per thread performance and more importantly perhaps the many PCI Express
1:42 Lanes that professionals have come to rely on while Threadripper is actually
1:48 clocked similarly to ryzen 7 and makes use of the same modular CCX design and
1:54 infinity fabric interconnect by amping it up to four CCX of cross two dies we
2:01 now get a total of 64 PCI Express Lanes that is 20 more
2:08 than Intel's shiny new core I9 and even
2:12 threatens Intel's Zeon server processors
2:15 Who currently enjoy just four more Lanes than their core I9 counterparts and in a
2:20 world where gpus are critical to
2:23 high-end compute performance like rendering and scientific research 64
2:29 Lanes gets you highspeed connections to
2:32 a lot of them three gpus by themselves
2:36 at 16x speeds would saturate a core I9
2:40 or zeeon completely while on a Threadripper based system you're going to have
2:44 room to spare to be fair to Intel their
2:48 rationale is that there's not many scenarios where this is a big issue but
2:51 AMD's betting and we believe they're right on NVMe storage high-speed
2:56 networking and high performance external accelerator even gpus becoming more and
3:02 more common as time goes on though with that said there is no word yet on
3:07 Thunderbolt support in any AMD ecosystem
3:10 what is supported on all AMD Zen based platforms though are The Usual Suspects
3:16 like sense Mii Precision boost and xfr
3:19 which allow Threadripper to determine the Optimal Performance State voltage
3:24 and power limit on a millisecond scale and even boost performance further if
3:29 the cooling is good enough old news perhaps but it's an important
3:34 distinction from Team blue whose high-end desktop and Zeon processors
3:39 have traditionally lagged a generation behind their mainstream chips in terms
3:43 of power management well all right then lonus thanks for the recap tell us
3:47 something we don't know we'll get to that first a closer look at the chips
3:52 launching today the 1950x clocks in at a
3:55 whopping 16 cores and 32 threads with a
3:59 massive 40 megab of cash it achieves
4:04 this by gluing together two zenis of two
4:09 CCX each what's perhaps even more interesting is its little brother the
4:15 1920x which still enjoys a numbers
4:18 advantage over the more expensive cor I9
4:21 7900 X at 12 cores 24 threads and still
4:26 64 PCI E Lanes so we slotted both of
4:29 them quite literally this new mounting mechanism is bananes into an ASUS Zenith
4:35 extreme with 32 gigs of tridentz RGB RAM
4:38 and a thermal take ring RGB cooler as for competition all three of our other
4:43 test benches will be represented x299
4:46 z270 and x370 and as for performance
4:50 well surprisingly our 1950x actually beat out the competition
4:56 in Rise of the Tomb Raider and DSX mankind devis
5:00 but then fell well behind the pack along with the 1920x in
5:05 CSO not quite sure why that would be but
5:08 it pulls up alongside team blue again in our synthetics so maybe we'll chalk it
5:13 up to the ongoing game engine optimization for ryzen that AMD has been
5:17 shouting out or just another source engine Quirk to throw in the pile moving
5:22 on to productivity benchmarks this is
5:25 where it gets really interesting while our synthetics show Threadripper more
5:30 or less trading blows with the core I 9 even in multi-threaded workloads when we
5:35 get into rendering with cinebench R15
5:38 and blender our 12 core
5:41 1920x is competitive with the core I 9
5:45 7900x and our 1950x is way out front like by a lot our
5:52 two Threadripper CPUs also had the lowest performance drop during our
5:58 combined streaming and local recording test with OBS in
6:03 CSO beautiful so what's the catch Linus
6:07 does it light up like a Roman Candle do we need a pocket nuclear reactor to
6:12 power it well if you're overclocking actually maybe more on that
6:17 to come but at stock speed Threadripper manages this kind of multi-threading
6:22 performance at roughly a dozen more watts and 10 more de under synthetic
6:27 load compared to the core I 9 and at these prices the value proposition
6:32 especially for professionals is outstanding for gamers unless you're
6:37 streaming or 3D rendering at the same
6:40 time you're gaming Threadripper isn't
6:43 going to be the best value but for pros
6:47 it's frankly starting to look like a no-brainer if your workload relies on
6:52 multi-threading performance or lots of adding cards now it remains to be seen
6:57 how team blue will react if at all but given their negative press against AMD's
7:02 epic and Threadripper products for Data Center and workstation use it's safe to
7:07 say they're beginning to feel a little hot under the colar but that's okay
7:12 Intel AMD's got a uh Threadripper that
7:15 can help you with that get it it's a joke cuz you could rip the
7:21 fabric whoa our buddies at cable mod
7:24 bought an LTT integration business must
7:27 be good and for good reason they're great people and they make great
7:31 products and they've got a new product to announce today they're sleeving kits
7:37 for aios they let you add the same cable
7:40 mod vibrant colors to your all-in-one liquid cooler that you previously could
7:45 on your cables and they are color
7:49 matched so your aiio tubing can actually match your mod mesh cables installation
7:55 is super easy you don't have to disassemble your cooler or anything like
7:59 that you just wrap mod wrap sleeving around your AI tubing and complete the
8:04 look with the included fastening Clips so check them out and maybe buy one buy
8:10 one at the link in the video
8:13 description so thanks for watching guys this video sucked you know what to do
8:16 but it was awesome get subscribed hit that like button or check out the link
8:19 to where to buy the stuff we featured in the video description also linked in the
8:23 description is our merch store which has cool shirts like this one and our
8:27 community Forum which you should totally join l
