0:00 so Intel just launched their brand new code name Broadwell EP based zons I mean
0:04 these things are bananas the top ofth line one has 22 cores 45 Megs of cash a
0:11 quad Channel ddr4 memory controller and best of all did I mention that we've
0:17 already got one no I didn't because that
0:20 would be a lie we have
0:28 two
0:34 tunnel bear is the easy to use VPN service that lets you use the web as

0:46 description now as impressive as the E5
0:49 2699 V4 might be under the hood CPUs are
0:54 never really much to look at physically but that won't stop us from
0:58 investigating some of the differences between this and the older haswell-based
1:02 V3 processors so first of all they've redesigned the heat spreader I don't
1:07 know exactly what the engineering reason for these little flanges that come out
1:11 into the corners are but if I had to guess I would say it would be to
1:14 transfer the compact pressure of the CPU heat sink onto the pads and the pins in
1:20 the socket below more evenly and then the other thing that they've changed is
1:23 it no longer overhangs the socket and
1:27 it's actually closer to the size of a desktop chip than the previous Zeon were
1:32 with these like Ultra super mega wide heat spreaders on them now there are
1:37 some similarities here and this will be good news for high-end desktop
1:41 Enthusiast users or workstation users who are not necessarily going to drop I
1:46 think this one's like $4500 on a 22 core model but might be
1:51 interested in a high core count model and that is that it uses the same 2011
1:57 contact pads on the bottom and is therefore socket compatible with LGA
2:02 20113 meaning that as long as your motherboard maker provides a BIOS update
2:06 this will be a dropin replacement for the older v3s and even desktop
2:12 processors assuming you've got a board that will support it so naturally then
2:16 the first thing I'm going to do is throw it on my gaming desktop test bench and
2:22 see how it goes but before we do that I
2:25 want to get some oh did I just die that was quick and anyway before we do that I
2:31 want to get some baseline numbers on a 5960x extreme Edition desktop processor
2:36 so we have something to compare this brand new top-of-the-line 22 core
2:42 against Benchmark wise I'll be doing a very very limited set so we'll be
2:47 running Crisis 3 to represent gaming we'll be running cinebench as well as W
2:52 Prime so with our Baseline numbers run all that's left to do is find out if our
2:57 motherboard has a BIOS update we can't
3:00 tell because ASUS and for everyone for that matters BIOS update release notes
3:04 are notoriously terrible so all we can do now is update to the latest one tear
3:10 the system apart and give it a shot all right moment of
3:23 truth yeah uh this is not looking like it is
3:27 going to work we're getting a post code 53 maybe it will
3:33 change and no but that's okay because
3:37 this is just a minor setback Broadwell e
3:40 the Enthusiast desktop equivalent for Broadwell EP is not set to land for
3:47 however long I actually have no idea so it makes sense I guess that some of the
3:51 more desktop oriented boards would not have Broadwell EP support but that's
3:54 okay because we have a system that definitely does
4:00 this is eight Gamers 1 CPU the Michael
4:04 Bay style sequel to seven Gamers 1 CPU
4:08 it's bigger it's better it's better and it's also deceptively named because in
4:13 addition to actually running two CPUs because come on quite frankly if you've
4:18 got a workload that can benefit from 22 cores and 44 threads did I mention that
4:23 CP hyperthreading then you've probably got a workload that can benefit from 44
4:28 cores and 88 thread so we're going to be using this bad boy to deceptively put
4:34 two CPUs in and also deceptively run up
4:38 to 10 gaming VMS but it's going to be a
4:41 little bit different because this chassis supports and you'll see here
4:49 hopefully there we go
4:53 supports eight video cards in it sort of
4:57 advertised configuration but thanks to to its 11 PCI e6x slots on board 10 GB
5:04 networking dual 10 gbit networking I am planning to put an additional two cards
5:09 in here to hopefully get 10 gaming VMS
5:12 running and streaming using steam in home streaming to 10 different clients
5:18 all over the building instead of having everyone Tethered to the system this
5:22 time so all we've got to do then is apply the latest BIOS update and throw
5:27 the CPUs in here for our testing but before we put the 22 cores
5:33 in that machine I actually had to pull out the 8 Zotac gtx980 TI amps and
5:40 replace them with just one Titan X so I could get an Apples to Apples comparison
5:45 against my top-of-the-line desktop 5960x the cool thing here is that this
5:51 is 218 course the previous Flagship before that the flagship E5 was a 12
5:56 core we actually have one of those in Ed's machine maybe let me know in the
5:59 com comments if you'd like to see a generation by generation comparison
6:02 there and so we've gone from 12 to 18 to
6:05 now 22 cores but and this is really
6:08 interesting the 2699 V4 that we have
6:12 actually has 24 physical cores on it meaning that if they were to create an
6:16 additional 24 core skew and yields improve or whatever they potentially
6:21 could which is pretty cool so we ran through the same benchmarks chis of 3
6:24 Center bench and W Prime but it should be noted at this time that W Prime no
6:29 matter how many threads I set it to isn't really scaling so I might just
6:32 leave that out so with that out of the way then all right let's put some 22
6:36 core CPUs in here let's Lock and
6:45 Load Here We Go 44
6:51 oh dang it doesn't matter how
6:54 experienced I get at this stuff I still forget to plug in the
6:59 power supply
7:03 sometimes okay try that
7:08 again Lock and Load 44
7:15 cores hilariously that's not nearly as loud as it was when we had the default
7:19 fans in here I actually posted a uh a periscope stream of me turning it on for
7:25 the first time it was
7:28 deafening please turn
7:35 on oh
7:40 hello hey hey wow that was the longest
7:43 post I've ever seen in my
7:46 life okay then let's uh get into the BIOS here what the hell was
7:53 that it's like they want me to have a freaking heart
7:57 attack 44 core machine not turning
8:03 on jeez why is it that my stress is your
8:07 entertainment Hey where's my bio
8:11 screen okay so that's it video
8:17 card is still detected all good in the
8:23 hood wow that my friends is what 40 4 cores
8:31 88 threads looks
8:35 like just like that stock speed of this
8:39 puppy actually not much higher than the previous one in fact I think it's a
8:43 touch lower but you do get architectural improvements from going from Haswell to
8:49 Broadwell for the microarchitecture of the CPU
8:52 itself um and let's see what that
8:55 translates to so we'll fire up uh let's
8:58 do C bench is our first run here cuz I guarantee
9:03 you none if or almost none if any of you
9:08 have ever seen a cine bench run that looks like
9:20 this and
9:23 done over 5,000 points 50
9:30 24 unfreaking
9:35 real I certainly have never seen anything like it let's run it again just
9:39 cuz Hey it doesn't take very long
9:42 right so CPU usage 100% across 44 cores
9:49 88 threads yeah whatever no big
9:55 deal but can it run crisis only one way
10:00 to find out okay so while I haven't run the Benchmark yet I think I can say with
10:05 a fair degree of certainty that yes yes it can because all tabbing out reveals
10:11 that Crisis 3 is utilizing
10:14 5.6% of this CPU six C oh sorry 6 point 6.4 is what
10:20 we peaked at there well whoa how is that even
10:26 possible okay it's actually using a reasonable amount of it you can see most
10:30 of it's on this one random core right here but uh there are some other other
10:36 cor oh and it fell back down again all right so let's do this let's run the
10:42 bench can it run
10:55 crisis I don't know what crisis 3's music sounds like die you can die too
11:00 you can die too just jump over this thing I kind of screwed up my jump there
11:04 that's okay boom so all that's left now
11:08 is a bit of a wrap up yes it can play crisis it's a silly question of course
11:12 it can it's got about the power of multiples of our highest end desktop
11:18 processor in it but it's only really truly utilized in more multi-threaded
11:23 workloads like for example cin bench that is highend 3D rendering or in a
11:28 heavily virtualized environment like what I have planned for it in terms of
11:33 power consumption and temperatures once again I'm impressed in spite of the 22
11:38 cores under the hood our total system power consumption at idle is around 200
11:42 Watts remember that includes those beefy fans over there and our load power
11:47 consumption is around 500 watts with ID to 64 running Full Tilt in the
11:53 background let's go ahead and pull that up and our load temperatures even with
11:57 these goofy coolers I mean they're good coolers but they're not amazing is under
12:02 50 degrees it does help to be able to
12:05 spread out the cores when you've got lots and lots of cores you have a larger
12:09 heat source so it's a little bit easier for the heat to
12:12 transfer so I think that pretty much wraps it up what was the point of this
12:17 video Well Point number one is holy [ __ ] that's cool Point number two is that
12:22 while this is not something you're going to be running in your desktop you know
12:27 now the thing to not about these kinds of Technology showcases is that all this
12:32 stuff eventually does trickle down I mean remember 12 core like two and a
12:37 half years ago was the topof the line for servers and now the rumor is that
12:43 Broadwell e the desktop version of this is going to have a 10 Core Extreme
12:46 Edition so uh there you go it's a sight
12:50 of what's to come if nothing else Ting
12:55 is an unusual mobile carrier one that's focused on customer service service and
12:59 customer satisfaction first when you call them I'm about to blow your
13:05 mind you do not speak to a robot it was
13:09 pretty disconcerting the first time I did it I called and someone was like
13:13 hello and I was like what Wizardry is this you actually
13:18 get put through directly to a person who asks you what you want and takes care of
13:22 you and you don't actually have to pay a whack ton of extra monthly fees for that
13:28 service in fact the average Ting bill is only $24 per month per device well hold
13:34 on a second lonus why would it be like an average bill why wouldn't they just
13:38 have like contract rates because that's not the way Ting works it's all about
13:42 using what you use and paying for exactly what to use so in order to find
13:47 out if Ting would be better for you all you got to do is head over to lin.com
13:51 LinkedIn the video description and try out their savings calculator you enter
13:56 your last three bills and how much you paid for them and then your actual usage
14:00 and boom Ting shows you how much you
14:03 would be saving if you're stuck in a contract and you switch to Ting they'll
14:07 cover 25% of your cancellation fee up to 75 bucks and if you sign up using our
14:12 link you'll also get $25 in service credit or towards a new device so thanks
14:17 for watching guys if you dislike this video hit the dislike button but if you
14:20 liked it hit the like button get subscribed maybe consider getting a cool
14:24 shirt like this one using our Amazon affiliate code to shop at Amazon if you
14:28 happen to be doing anyway we got instructions up here or even contributing directly through our
14:31 community Forum by answering people's questions asking your own questions or
14:35 even becoming a contributor member where you get a little cool badge and all that
14:39 stuff now that you're done doing all that you're probably wondering hm gee what should I watch next well maybe you
14:43 should check out our Channel Super Fun video which we've got a link to up here
14:47 we've got a lot of stuff that we've done recently that's awesome and a lot of
14:51 stuff coming down the pipe for that channel so don't miss any of it by
