0:00 Hey guys, we're here at NAB 2015 and to kick off our coverage, we're here at the
0:03 Sennheiser booth to check out all of their new gear. Let's get into it.
0:16 Lionus Tech Tips coverage of NAB 2015 is powered by Sennheiser, Kingston, and
0:20 linda.com. So, the moment I got into the Sennheiser booth, I was told that they
0:24 had a new audio product that as a video guy would really impress me. So, I went
0:29 into it not really knowing what to expect. They handed me this new
0:32 Sennheiser AVX. Now, if this looks really simple, that is by design. As I
0:36 mentioned in our gear video, we've been using Sennheiser G3s for a long time.
0:41 But the idea behind this device is to make wireless audio a very simple and
0:44 quick process, especially if you're on a tight timeline. You simply plug it into
0:49 a camera or audio recorder's XLR port, and the receiver powers on and pairs to
0:53 the prepaired microphone. This really speeds up any audio setup you'll have to
0:57 do with a hammer or lav mic wirelessly. If you have ever had to shoot video as a
1:01 one-man band like I have in the past, you will appreciate how simple this AVX
1:05 is to use. Sennheiser has targeted this product to people who do a lot of video
1:09 work but can't afford to have audio take up big chunk of their setup time. And
1:13 for show coverage like we do, I see this being a very handy tool to have. Moving
1:17 on to Sennheiser's new MK2 digital and clip mic digital. These are two iOS
1:22 specific lav mics that Sennheiser has made in partnership with Apogee.
1:26 Physically, each mic has a built-in preamp designed by Apogee to give clean
1:30 quality audio straight into your iPhone or iPad. Both mics feature a lightning
1:34 connector at the bottom for easy input into an iPhone 5 or later and most
1:39 current iPads. The mics come included with a clip to rig the mic to a shirt or
1:44 jacket and are easy to use with Sennheiser's iOS app that works in
1:47 tandem with either one of these new lav mics. I see this mic being great for
1:51 journalists on the go who want to record interviews while only needing to bring
1:54 around their iPhone or iPad or even simply to use as a quality mic source on
1:59 a conference call. The MK2 is intended for slightly more professional
2:03 applications like documentary interviews and live events where the Clip Mic
2:07 Digital is intended for anyone who wants a quality audio solution without buying
2:10 any other equipment to get it. The last thing that really caught my eye at the
2:14 booth was Sennheiser's finalized version of their Sera surround microphone
2:18 system. At the heart of the system, you have the SPM8000 stereo microphone
2:22 connected into their SBP8000 unit with this interesting double analog XLR
2:27 cable. What this all adds up to is a stereo microphone setup that really
2:31 brings you into the atmosphere of wherever the mic is placed in. Trying it
2:35 out myself, I see this being great for sports events that really want you to
2:39 feel like you're sitting right in the arena with everyone else. Thank you to
2:42 Sunheiser for sending us here this year. If you're at the show, be sure to check
2:46 out all the other great audio gear they have at their booth. Also, Kingston SD
2:50 cards for all your personal and professional needs. Check out bit.ly/krston
