0:00 hi i'm riley welcome to techlinks
0:04 last week AMD took the wraps off their threadripper 3960x and 3970x processors
0:10 but while those parts boast 24 and 32 cores respectively
0:15 that ain't nothing compared to big mama AMD may be announcing a
0:20 3990x with 64 cores and 128 threads real
0:25 soon you see MSI released a video recently demoing its creator trx40
0:30 motherboard and in one clip the video shows a pc with task manager open
0:35 showing the number of threads there's 16 columns and eight rows and i'm no
0:40 mathematician so how many threads is that taryn uh i wasn't paying attention
0:45 yeah it's classic i already said how much it was it's 128. it's 128. come on
0:51 MSI of course promptly took down the video but not before it was captured and
0:55 immortalized on the internet so keep your eyes and ears peeled for the
0:58 official announcement of this behemoth soon although it's probably going to be
1:02 over three thousand dollars quick how many dollars per thread
1:07 i don't know i thought you were good at tech no you're a smart guy uh no the
1:12 youtube verse has been all riled up recently
1:16 over changes made to the video site's terms of service which indicate that
1:20 youtube could deactivate channels if they're not commercially viable the
1:25 uproar was sparked by a line in the tos that previously said youtube may
1:29 terminate its legal agreement with you if the provision of the service to you
1:33 by youtube is in youtube's opinion no
1:36 longer commercially viable now the line reads youtube may terminate your access
1:41 or your google account's access to all or part of the service if youtube
1:45 believes in its sole discretion that provision of the service to you is no
1:49 longer commercially viable so
1:53 the new language has sparked concern though among users that youtube could
1:57 start banning people who use adblock since that directly takes away from
2:01 youtube's revenue and creators revenue as well i might add but youtube says
2:06 that they're not changing anything about how youtube works just making sure the
2:09 terms are up to date the company got into a separate pot of hot water though
2:14 over the bands its automated systems handed out to markiplier fans who
2:18 spammed emotes in the chat during a live playthrough of the creators a heist with
2:22 markiplier interactive show those accounts have now been reinstated but
2:26 not before the whole thing added fuel to the anti-youtube fire
2:31 hmm but that fire keeps me warm
2:35 honey i live for the drama but here's something that we maybe
2:39 should be concerned about google has allegedly been collecting the private
2:43 health data of millions of americans across 21 states it's all part of an
2:48 initiative called project nightingale and includes things like lab results
2:52 doctor diagnoses hospitalization records and more the wall street journal says
2:57 google is getting the data from st louis based ascension the second largest
3:01 health company in the u.s and that 150 google employees have access to it now
3:06 this all sounds kind of scandalous but apparently it's all completely legal and
3:11 according to google patient privacy is being prioritized in project nightingale
3:16 the ultimate goal is apparently to aggregate disparate patient data and
3:20 host it all in one place which no joke i was literally just talking to
3:24 someone the other day about how we need a central system like that
3:28 and i'd rather have google do it than facebook
3:32 but yeah
3:35 anyways no time to ponder the nature and morality of privacy it's time for the
3:38 quick bits brought to you by the massdrop cos esp95x electrostatic
3:43 headphones with energizer
3:46 it's quite the name this baby's a revival of the original esp released by
3:50 kos in 1990 it was initially designed for live recording but has now been
3:55 updated for the modern audio file the esp95x has unmatched audio quality with
4:01 clean highs mids and bass and includes an energizer and battery pack to power
4:05 the headphones it also comes with a cost lifetime limited warranty and is
4:09 currently 100 bucks off so don't miss out join the drop at the link below
4:16 better do the quick bits now you might have gotten excited by rumors
4:21 that apple would be releasing its ar headset next year but sorry mac people
4:25 you'll have to wait until 2022 that's when cupertino is reportedly planning on
4:29 launching it followed by a pair of smart glasses in 2023 hopefully apple can roll
4:35 them out with a smoother reception than google got with the google glass
4:39 it's an apple product people will want to have their picture taken i'm sure the
4:44 alliance for creativity and entertainment a benign sounding
4:48 coalition with netflix amazon disney and hbo among its members are trying to
4:53 figure out how to stop people from sharing their streaming service
4:57 passwords possible solutions include requiring
5:00 customers to change passwords periodically and receiving two-factor
5:04 codes on their phones but as one analyst noted young people aren't going to pay
5:08 for these services anyways because young people are poor mostly so if you make it
5:13 harder for them to share passwords they might just pirate stuff
5:18 tough situation speaking of young people things the centers for disease control
5:22 say they have identified a possible culprit in the recent outbreak of
5:26 vaping-related injuries a chemical called vitamin e acetate has been found
5:30 in the lungs of 29 affected patients it's used in foods supplements and skin
5:35 creams but it's also a known additive to dilute vape liquid that contains
5:39 thc the active ingredient in cannabis
5:42 while this is a promising development the cdc says there are likely more
5:46 factors at play so in the meantime don't go by vaping products off the
5:50 street in fact not just in the meantime ever
5:53 in fact you know what don't even vape it upsets me that's where i get my moral
5:58 code what does what would riley do sony has filed a patent for a game
6:03 cartridge uh in 2019
6:06 there are no other details that hint at what this cartridge could be intended
6:09 for sony has denied rumors that they're working on a new ps vita handheld and
6:14 the playstation 5 will use blu-ray discs for its physical games format unless
6:18 neither of those are true and sony
6:21 is making a 2019 sega genesis
6:27 i've got to call the papers
6:30 and spacex has shot some more of its starlink internet providing satellites
6:34 into orbit marking the first time the company has reused a rocket fairing and
6:38 the fourth time this particular falcon 9 rocket has taken off and landed
6:42 successfully the satellites will be added to the existing 60 that were flown
6:46 up there earlier this year and if you look up on a cloudless night
6:50 you might be able to see them there's a lot of satellites up there you
6:54 can see something yeah taryn enough of this nonsense what i'm not doing it
6:58 anymore okay come back on wednesday for more tech news i promise it'll be worth
7:03 your while oh and we'll probably be doing that one million subscriber uh q a
7:07 video that uh we've mentioned on twitter at some point so hold on to your
7:10 britches for that and if you got questions i guess tweet
7:14 them at us
