0:00 this video from ces 2017 is brought to you by squarespace
0:04 yeah we've got them linked in the video description you know what they do
0:08 so this is it monitor monitor evolution has ended
0:12 because i don't really understand how it gets a whole lot better than what i have
0:17 in front of me today this is the rog swift pg27uq
0:23 and it would be a lot easier for me to come up with a list of crazy amazing
0:27 features that it doesn't have so 4k resolution 3840x2160
0:34 HDR and i will get a little bit more into that later
0:38 g-sync so that means if you're running an NVIDIA graphics card you've got
0:41 support for variable refresh rate technology and
0:45 it runs at 144
0:48 hertz well how are they doing that
0:52 what the what the crap is going on here so i so i pulled the plate off the back
0:57 and it's running on a single cable
1:00 so the only thing that i've seen it's got on the spec sheet here it's got HDMI
1:05 but come on realistically this is an HDMI 2.1 they just finalized the spec
1:08 like yesterday or something like that so it's displayport 1.4 it's got two inputs
1:13 and i assumed it would be using two of them but then i thought wait a minute
1:18 i just saw the dell 8k monitor
1:21 that was running off of you guessed it
1:24 two displayport 1.3 so they've got this
1:28 all closed in here see this my friends ASUS won't tell me
1:32 what's here but fortunately i have two hands
1:35 i got two hands i know how this works okay well i can't tell exactly what they
1:40 are but if i had to guess if i had to guess i would say that it's one of the
1:44 only graphics cards on the market that has support for anything higher than
1:48 displayport 1.2 so it's probably if i had to guess quadro p6000 sli
1:56 nobody nobody's giving me any confirmation whatsoever okay i'm not going to stress about that too much the
2:00 point is this thing's coming in sometime and by that time hopefully there will be
2:04 a system that can run it all right more details though i said before HDR
2:09 but the industry has kind of decided that HDR means anything above sdr when
2:14 it comes to a consumer grade monitor ASUS not good enough for them there's a
2:18 gaming display but they're like yeah no we're going to do it properly so we've got 384 zones of fully
2:25 fully backlit array backlit lcd goodness which is allowing them to achieve 1000
2:30 nitpeak brightness meaning that this display with hdr10 support is not only a
2:35 gaming display it is also potentially and i don't know much about the color
2:39 space coverage what do we got here you guys talking about that looks like not a
2:43 whole lot but it's quantum dot so i'm assuming we're doing better than adobe
2:47 RGB anyway there's nothing that would prevent this
2:50 thing from being used for content creation what can't it do
2:55 yeah the answer is pretty much nothing but just in case
2:58 you don't like the gamer aesthetic well hey they've got the pa32u this puppy
3:04 looks like it's built on a pretty darn similar platform so the same 384 direct
3:09 zone direct led backlight 1000 nit peak
3:13 brightness HDR support all that good stuff but on this
3:16 one they are actually calling out 85 of
3:20 rec 2020 coverage 99.5 of adobe RGB 95
3:24 of dci p3 and 100 srgb support so this looks like it could
3:29 be a candidate for us to move to an HDR workflow wink wink sometime in the
3:34 future uh assuming that uh you know they can get it produced sometime in the in
3:39 the next little bit here so how much is one of these gonna cost you
3:43 i don't know lots let's say 1500
3:47 maybe more but they're super cool
3:50 so thanks for checking out this video guys don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss any of our i was doing the
