0:12 The unboxing ninja chooses his prey
0:15 wisely
0:18 and they fell. Oops. Okay, so today we've got the Minet N750. This is
0:23 slightly higher end than the N600, meaning for your dualband speeds, you've
0:27 got one 450 megabit per second stream and one 300 megabit per second stream,
0:31 giving you a total of 750. And slightly lower end than the N900, which has two
0:36 450 megabit per second streams. This one also has gigabit ports, better range
0:41 than the N600, and also has easy setup.
0:44 Also has fasttrack streaming, fast track streaming, which I will go over in a
0:48 moment. also supports full HD, which it bloody well better if it has gigabit and
0:52 N750 and has 4 GB ports, which I already
0:55 talked about. I Fasttrack HD entertainment. So, let's talk about what
0:59 FastTrack does exactly. Fasttrack is profiles that WD builds into the
1:04 lower-end routers, the N600 and the N750
1:07 that I was expecting him to come look at this while I sort of talk. There we go.
1:11 Fasttrack basically is profiles that WD builds into the firmware that takes your
1:16 frequently used games and applications and turns them into priorities. So
1:21 instead of doing manual QoS, manual quality of service, which you do with
1:26 most traditional routers, WD provides all the profiles. All you got to do is
1:29 turn fasttrack on and it'll automatically prioritize things like
1:32 Skype over, you know, your brother who's
1:35 torrenting in the next room and you're like, "I'm trying to talk to grandma."
1:39 And he's like, "I'm trying to play League of Legends." And you're like, "No, I'm trying to talk to grandma." And
1:43 you have these conversations and it's just pointless. It's stupid. Just get one of these. Then you don't have to
1:47 worry about it anymore. It'll automatically prioritize. So, moving
1:50 right along. Here's the help me choose things. So, the benefits, I kind of
1:53 already covered this. So you get 4 GB ports versus the four fast Ethernet
1:57 ports on the N600. You get two USB 2 ports. So WD is a storage company. They
2:03 do want you to buy a hard drive to use with your Minet router in order to, you
2:06 know, back things up and store all your data in one place, access it from
2:10 wherever you want. If you get a compatible Western digital drive, such
2:14 as a MyBook Live, you can actually even
2:17 use your router as kind of an Apple time
2:20 capsule replacement with Time Machine. although it's compatible with Windows
2:24 utilities as well. Uh one, two, three step setup, 24/7 customer support, and
2:29 this one is rated for multiple HD streams um over Wi-Fi. I mean, I think
2:34 that's it's optimistic at the best of times. I
2:38 think if you're getting one full HD stream over Wi-Fi over any kind of
2:42 distance, you should probably be pretty happy. But who knows? I could be wrong.
2:45 I'm just unboxing it now. I haven't actually sat down and tested it yet. Uh
2:50 the Minet dashboard gives you a simple view of your essential settings, more
2:53 access, remote access with WD to go. So these
2:56 are apps that are available that you can use as well as the WD photos app. More
3:00 simplicity. Okay. Easy to auto configure, advanced QoS. Yes, that's
3:04 that fasttrack feature. Parental controls and internet security, network
3:07 diagnostic tool, auto sensing port technology, and antenna amplifiers. So
3:11 that's what makes this one higher range than the N600. In terms of included
3:15 accessories, there's not a whole lot. There's a power brick. There's warranty
3:19 as well as technical support. Phone numbers for you. There's a start here
3:22 which has steps for Mac, steps for Windows as well as a disc as well as an
3:28 Ethernet port port.
3:32 An Ethernet port which you can plug this Ethernet cable into is what I meant to
3:36 say. All right, let's have a look at the physicality of the router. There's your
3:39 power LED, your wireless LED, your wireless LED. Yes, wireless LED, your
3:44 internet LED, and your WPS LED. There's your button for that. On the top, it's
3:48 sort of matte and sort of shiny. It's actually got kind of a nice look to it. Can you see that in the camera? Does it
3:52 look good? Looks good. Yeah, Diesel's giving me the nod. Okay, so you've got
3:57 power switch, power in, 4 GB ports,
4:00 internet port, and then two storage ports, which is actually really cool.
4:04 And again, WD is a storage company. They want you to like get more storage. And I
4:09 personally totally believe in NAS storage. I'm a big NAS like guy. Uh,
4:13 this is a little basic for me. I actually have like some pretty high-end
4:16 NAS stuff going on. But uh hey, if you
4:19 don't have any network backup already, you will thank yourself if you throw a
4:23 centralized backup on here next time a computer hard drive crashes or anything
4:27 bad happens and you need to recover some data off of it. You will, yes, you'll
4:31 thank yourself. Plus, being able to access your files while you're on the go
4:34 on your tablet or your phone or whatever other device is very cool as well. So,
4:37 thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look at the WD Minet N750.
