0:00 Guys, welcome to our first video from CES 2013. We're here in the ASUS
0:05 notebooks suite. Well, notebooks and tablets. And I think you're going to see
0:08 that the line has been somewhat blurred between those categories based on what
0:12 we're about to show you here today. Welcome to Linus Tech Tips at CES 2013.
0:17 Our trip to the show this year is powered by Corsair, maker of quality PC
0:20 components and peripherals. Our trusted storage partner is Seagate Technology,
0:25 and our trusted networking partner is Lynxys.
0:31 So, right here is the Taiichi 21 and the Taichi 31. The Taiichi 21 we've sort of
0:36 seen before. It's an 11.6 in tablet with 10point multi-touch. But did I say
0:42 tablet? Did I say notebook? See, I'm getting confused already because it is a
0:45 notebook. It is a tablet and you've got
0:49 a wide variety of different ways that you can actually interact with it. So,
0:53 see how quickly it wakes up from sleep, too. I love Windows 8. So, check this
0:56 out, guys. We're going to go to the desktop here. So, we're going to click
1:00 on that and I'm going to show you guys something really cool. So, think about
1:03 all the ways you can use this. This is an ultrabook, so it's super portable.
1:07 You're a sales rep. You're a photographer. You want to be able to
1:10 show someone something quickly without doing the old, well, here, let me work
1:15 on this and let me uh show it to you over there. Now, I can't see what they're doing. It's it's it's not very
1:20 it's not as interactive. So, now what you can do is you use this button right
1:23 here to decide how you want to use it. You press the enter key. Boom.
1:29 Now it's a 10point multi-touch tablet. These are two IPS screens that are built
1:33 into this notebook here. So the viewing angles are fantastic. And the
1:37 brightness, as we've come to expect from ASUS, I mean look look at something like
1:40 a TF700. Just fantastic. Is well meets
1:44 expectations, but I guess that that doesn't sound as good as it actually is.
1:48 Now the next mode you can do is check this out.
1:53 Mirror. So now there's the presentation scenario I'm talking about. Instead of
1:57 it just being a tablet, now it's got a tablet side where you can interact with
2:02 it through touch, but that exact same thing is now showed on the non-touch
2:07 side where you're expected to interact with a keyboard and a touchpad. Last but
2:11 not least, this guy right here. So this is an extend mode. Basically, what
2:15 you're doing is you're taking that screen on the back and pretending that
2:18 it swings out this way. So it's an extended desktop. So you can do
2:22 something like if you're sitting working, the kids are bothering you. I
2:26 mean they're they're distracting you in some way. You go look, sit over there
2:29 where I can see you. They wrecked something. They're in timeout. You go look. Okay, fine. Here, watch a movie.
2:33 Drag it over to the other video or to the other screen. Maximize it. Boom.
2:37 You're watching a video over here. So four different ways you can use it. This
2:40 guy right here is a new version. So now it comes in a 13.3 in size, still full
2:46 HD, so 1920 x 1080, and basically more
2:50 of the same. So here, let's get some uh let's get some really nice sort of
2:54 glamour shots of this. Remember guys, this is an ultrabook. In spite of the
2:57 fact that ASUS has built another screen, a piece of glass, which adds to the
3:02 weight, adds to the thickness, this is still meeting the Intel Ultrabook
3:06 specification while also being a full-blown Windows 8 tablet. Now,
3:14 very, very, very cool stuff. On this side, you can see we've got a few different things here. So, give me one
3:19 moment. And I'm going to find out what this little button does. ASUS is finding
3:23 out for us, but we actually figured it out already. So, what this does is it
3:26 completely disables the back screen. So, even if you accidentally hit one of the
3:30 uh the hotkeys to change the screen modes on it, it will just not go to that
3:34 one. It keeps it it actually keeps it off. So, other than that, we've got
3:38 power, we've got an indicator LED, micro HDMI, VGA that you can output with an
3:43 adapter, super speed USB 3. Remember guys, super speed USB3 or Thunderbolt
3:48 are requirements. You have to have one or the other to get the ultrabook status
3:52 from Intel. We have another super speed USB 3. So, ASUS has done not one but two
3:56 of those. Finally, SD expansion volume control. Remember, it's a you need a
4:02 dedicated hardware volume control switch because of the fact that it is both a
4:06 notebook and a tablet. So, thanks for checking out our coverage of the Tai Chi
4:09 21 and Tai Chi 31. Don't forget to subscribe to Linus Tech Tips for more
