0:00 in early q2 of this year NVIDIA announced g-force g-assist a usb stick
0:07 that would enable a suite of features called g-force assisted gaming so ghost
0:13 play would use ai to analyze your gameplay style then if you have to get
0:17 up to get the door or something it would just keep playing as though it was you
0:22 neat boss boost could analyze boss fights and help you with the most
0:27 effective way to beat them you could use it one time per session and envy nurture
0:32 would even tell you when to eat and drink to stay nourished and hydrated
0:37 even going as far as to tell you when the drinks in your fridge were chilled
0:43 obviously of course that was an april fool's joke
0:47 but after much
0:51 clamoring from the community NVIDIA did
0:54 actually produce a g-force gtx styled usb drive in the
1:02 same kind of form as the g assist so it
1:06 looks just like a little miniature gtx
1:11 1080 isn't that adorable so NVIDIA produced only 1080 of them and
1:18 i see what you did there because 4k gaming right
1:22 and they sent us two of them so naturally our first question was
1:28 can they run traces and the answer of course was no that's
1:32 stupid they're usb drives they're 64 gig thumbsticks our second question then was
1:37 can we run them in sli
1:41 let's find out
1:51 cooler masters 25th anniversary edition
1:54 cosmos 2 features a unique dual curved tempered glass side panel
2:00 check it out now at the link below
2:04 but how do we run sli obviously there's no you know sli
2:10 enable button in NVIDIA's control panel for a a gag limited run product
2:16 so we got to thinking well raid then would be the closest
2:21 thing to running multiple storage devices together for increased
2:26 performance but this raises other questions how do
2:29 we do that hardware raid cards are the best raid
2:33 experience but as you can probably imagine
2:37 nobody really makes a hardware raid card these are like 500 plus dollar devices
2:42 for putting thumb drives in them so no
2:45 we're gonna have to go back to our good old friend software raid something we've
2:49 actually used several times in the past including on our ill-fated raid 50
2:54 solid-state wanik server so for our first attempt
2:58 then things are going to be pretty simple we go ahead and plug in both drives
3:04 they're both formatted right out of the box
3:07 we open up the disk management software that's included with Windows look at
3:11 that they're both detected and then
3:15 stumbling block what should come up when we right click
3:20 on the drives is the option to convert them to dynamic disks
3:25 they need to be dynamic disks in order for us to run software raid i mean to be
3:30 clear i'm not complaining that Windows doesn't allow you to run a
3:34 raid on removable usb devices that's
3:38 a terrible terrible idea but that doesn't change the fact that i
3:43 want to do it so fortunately we found some unverified instructions on the
3:48 internet that should allow us to load a
3:51 really ancient 64-bit usb drive driver
3:56 and hopefully get our raid 0 game on
4:00 so the first step is that we need to disable secure boot including unloading
4:05 the pk keys then well we tried installing the old
4:10 unsigned usb driver to trick the system but that failed with an error about
4:15 driver signing so by shift rebooting
4:20 then disabling driver signature in the advanced startup options
4:25 we can force the driver to install using
4:29 device manager once that happened
4:32 both drives were detected as normal internal drives rather than usb drives
4:39 and the striped array option becomes available for us too
4:43 no come on
4:48 surely my random thing i found on the
4:51 internet with a random driver from 2006
4:54 should have worked but it didn't
4:58 well desperate times call for desperate
5:02 measures i took to googling it and found this
5:07 video from the 8-bit guy
5:10 whose channel intro says the ibook got
5:14 hold on a minute oh no
5:18 you can't do it on the pc but you can do it on a mac
5:25 here goes then we got our 2017 macbook pro
5:31 and we are going to do this because i am determined to run sli usb drives even if
5:38 i have to do it on a macbook
5:42 oh all right
5:45 i'm a little rusty on my mac operation i actually haven't touched this thing
5:49 since uh since i did my review of it um
5:54 right nothing on a mac is done by right clicking
5:58 right raid assistant striped raid zero
6:01 that's what we want no way
6:06 is it this easy is it gonna work okay
6:09 sli raid okay
6:13 this looks promising no
6:18 it works gtx sli raid
6:23 no freaking way
6:27 okay so let's fire up blackmagic disc speed test
6:31 change our target and bam
6:35 let's have a look at what these write speeds look like baby
6:38 okay uh
6:41 there you go they're not the fastest drives in the world but
6:46 114 megabytes per second on our sli raid
6:53 is actually faster than the 72 megabytes
6:57 per second that we got on a single drive
7:01 so does sli work
7:05 on the GeForce gtx g assist limited
7:08 edition usb 1080 drive
7:13 not a real product thing the answer is
7:16 sort of you've probably heard that you should
7:20 use a vpn when you're browsing the internet if you want your data to be
7:25 secure and you want to be able to access things that would otherwise be
7:29 restricted but you've also probably heard oh it's complicated you heard
7:33 wrong tunnelbear is so simple you just pick what country you want to tunnel
7:39 through and press the button it's available on iOS Android pc and mac they
7:45 even have a chrome extension and they've got a top rated privacy policy and they
7:50 do not log your activity so whether you want to watch programming that's uh not
7:56 available in your region or whether you just don't want your internet service
8:00 provider knowing what sites you're visiting and what you're downloading
8:04 tunnelbear's got you covered you can try it for free with 500 megabytes and no
8:08 credit card required then when you get a year of unlimited make sure you go to
8:13 tunnelbear.com LTT so you can save 10
8:17 so thanks for watching guys if you dislike this video then you clearly
8:20 don't enjoy fun but if you liked it hit the like button get subscribed maybe
8:24 consider checking out where to buy the stuff we featured okay you can't buy
8:28 these but you could buy a real one at the link in the video description
