0:00 all right it's WAN Show time again It's the most exciting show of the week that
0:06 I host with you We we launched the show
0:10 based on like degradation of radioactive materials so that we're like exactly
0:16 millisecond on time Everyone else just has incorrect clocks Yeah Well there's a
0:20 7 minute time delay so that we can place our bets about the outcome of the show
0:25 before you know the betting closes Everyone else is on a delay You heard
0:29 about that right Yeah Yeah Yeah That was like really bad That was some That was
0:34 some bush league stuff going on there That's like Yes We want to be taken
0:39 seriously as a sport Oh also our athletes are going to bet on a time
0:44 delayed like match because or or sorry event
0:49 organizer event organizer is going to bet on a time delayed match because they
0:55 are spectating in the game Like I
0:58 So anyways let's go ahead and uh let's get started We're going to have a great
1:02 show for you guys today Um we've got
1:05 actually tons of great topics I'm even
1:08 going to I'm even going to jump away from some of the ones that we did as our
1:12 teasers at the beginning Um some some smart TVs have started just inserting
1:17 ads into content on their own That's
1:20 smart France is deploying anti- drone
1:24 drones at their nuclear plants There's some stuff going on like a lot of stuff
1:29 going on at frozen CPU and no one is
1:33 sure exactly what kind of stuff's going on Also Apple's activation lock is like
1:39 seriously reducing theft of smartphones all kind of around the world And NVIDIA
1:44 is digging even freaking deeper and
1:48 disabled 900M overclocking with a new
1:51 driver So yeah Can you drive underground
1:58 Yes they do that for mining
2:25 And our sponsors for the show today are linda.com
2:30 Dollar Shave Club
2:34 and Oh is that a new one Oh what's that XSplit Is that that software we use Yeah
2:40 Is that Is that that software that we've been using since we like started on the
2:44 WAN Show that we always used to complain about but now that we like Yeah Oh look
2:48 at that Cool All right guys So let's get
2:51 right into our first topic here Um
2:55 NVIDIA digs deep as latest 347.29
3:00 driver on the GTX 900M series disables
3:04 overclocking Are you in the Twitch chat Cuz I sure am not This was posted by
3:08 Kubaru I can post it I've got it No worries All right I just want to get the
3:12 Twitch chat open I'm using a different laptop this week because there was a bit
3:15 of an unfortunate occurrence last week thanks to me using my general purpose
3:20 personal and work laptop on the stream
3:23 and a technical complication that basically it's a long story And uh the
3:28 original article here is from Tech PowerUp I'm going to go ahead and screen
3:31 share with you guys so you can have a quick boo at this And some some
3:36 notebooks Um so notably we did a review of the G751 J something or other
3:42 Whatever The G751 ASUS's updated G750
3:46 that features Dang it Tech Powerup Just mute
3:52 I guess I can You're not screen sharing right now I'm not Oh you are How is that
3:58 not going through that I don't know Yeah I couldn't hear it Huh that's bizarre
4:01 Anyway okay So um so right So we have a G751 that we reviewed It did have albeit
4:07 very limited overclocking features enabled and NVIDIA has pushed out a
4:11 driver update that disables that Not only on the 970M and 980M but my
4:17 understanding is there's also um another
4:21 another graphics card I think it's the 860M has also had overclocking disabled
4:26 on it So you'll have to you'll have to correct me on that Someone in chat says
4:30 860M and 850M and 850M too So basically
4:35 NVIDIA so some users were upset because they kind of go "Yo dog Um so I was
4:40 overclocking my GPU and my temps were all cool Get it Temps were cool because
4:45 cool is good Lack of heat." Lack of heat or lower
4:50 amount of heat Excellent thermal dissipation Uh so my temps are great I
4:54 was getting all this extra performance I got a new driver update so I could play
4:58 whatever new game it is that the kids play these days And boom no overclocking
5:03 all of a sudden So NVIDIA has clarified that GTX 900M series overclocking was
5:09 enabled by accident and has therefore since been disabled
5:14 Users were insensed uh arguing that they should be able to use their hardware as
5:18 they choose even if it does void the warranty Overclocking has been allowed
5:21 on mobile GPUs from NVIDIA in the past but we've seen them become a lot more
5:26 restrictive even on the desktop side in recent years and every architecture
5:31 seems to add some new functionality designed to let the GPU manage itself
5:36 versus paying really any attention to user intervention So um my take on this
5:42 is one you shouldn't be overclocking your notebook GPU anyway So there's that
5:47 Two I think it's a dick move because if
5:50 you want to break your stuff it should be your right to break your stuff
5:54 something that has always baffled me about the whole overclocking thing where
5:59 manufacturers will say overclocking voids your warranty Um and then they
6:05 never had any way to tell Like if you've ever taken like an iPad into an Apple
6:10 store and for for warranty replacement the first thing they do is they whip out
6:13 a flashlight and they look inside the connectors for those moisture uh those
6:18 moisture strips or those moisture color change things because if they're going
6:21 to say "Hey look your warranty is void if you drop it in the water," then they
6:25 better have a bloody way to actually back it up Otherwise it's all just this
6:28 It's just gum flapping So something that baffles me is why doesn't NVIDIA just
6:33 allow us to do whatever we want with it and then actually void the warranty
6:40 Huh Huh Why don't you just Why don't you
6:44 just enforce the policy you already had
6:48 instead of making a new policy that just makes people mad at you And if it was
6:52 enabled in the past oh man on like previous
6:57 if it was enabled on previous
7:01 if it was enabled on previous versions of NVIDIA mobile GPUs they should just
7:06 tell people they're having a big communications problem these days They
7:09 need to just tell people that it would not be enabled on the new one If it was
7:13 if they told people it would not be possible and then it was accidentally
7:16 possible and they took it away that's a totally different story I mean people
7:20 will still be upset Yeah and I would still get it Yeah but it's it's it's
7:24 it's it's incredibly frustrating how
7:29 incorrectly NVIDIA goes about a lot of this stuff And you know what I get it
7:33 Honestly this is probably something that
7:36 comes about due to higher and higherend
7:39 graphics cores being implemented in these like thin and light designs that
7:44 were going to thermal throttle or be on the edge of it like barely make it like
7:49 stuff like the GS70 like this these super thin designs Aoris's X7 Pro hyper
7:55 thin SLI enabled notebooks they actually
7:58 don't throttle but as soon as you go ahead and you start turning things up
8:01 they will So that's going to create a bad user experience going to potentially
8:05 make the chips run even hotter therefore reducing their lifespan And the thing
8:09 about a a a something that's meant to be implemented into a finished goods
8:14 product like a notebook GPU is that when
8:17 that dies like let's say your desktop you know GTX 970 that's a what $400
8:23 graphics card Let's say that GPU burns out because someone was irresponsible
8:27 and they they overclocked it they cooked it whatever the case may be If that dies
8:31 now that is kind of hard these days with a GPU boost but regardless if that dies
8:36 then that's a $400 RMA replacement that
8:39 the manufacturer then has to deal with You know your ASUS or Gigabyte or MSI or
8:43 whatever else the case may be If your laptop GPU dies all of a sudden we're
8:49 talking about a $2,000 replacement or let's say at the lower
8:53 lower end of these high-end GPUs you know a $1,500 $1,800 even up to you know
8:58 $3,000 device that is now effectively bricked
9:02 Now you can make arguments for oh well then you know they should be doing
9:06 mobile GPUs on MXM modules anyway so that I could just replace the graphics
9:10 card And and there are arguments to be made for that If you've seen the kinds
9:14 of notebooks that feature replaceable graphics cards stuff like the GT80 Titan
9:19 from MSI it's like 2 in thick like also
9:23 and expensive There is more involved in
9:27 making that stuff modular and in designing an interchangeable system for
9:30 the cards and the cooling slots cuz none of that stuff's standard and it's never
9:34 going to be I get people messaging me all the time suggesting that we do a
9:38 video about doing a customuilt notebook Customuilt notebooks died ages ago Like
9:44 my laptop that I that I got for
9:48 university So this was back in uh how
9:51 old am I I
9:54 2004 I guess So this is about Man I'm
9:57 old Okay So this is over 10 years ago It was an ASUS M5NE
10:03 and uh this was back when laptop displays were like 5x4 It was a 12 inch
10:08 which was a big deal at the time And you could get an extended battery that stuck
10:12 out the bottom like this much Yeah Yeah And and acted as a keyboard incline Yeah
10:17 Exactly That's why I said they're awesome They were actually really good So those those were freaking awesome But
10:21 but aside from that so you know having like six hours of battery life on a
10:25 laptop back in those days was like amazing So that one I bare bones built
10:30 it So I bought my own CPU from Canada Computers I bought some RAM I bought a
10:35 drive And then I bought a barebones unit from from NCIX and um I I put it
10:42 together and I realized that I had saved exactly $0 And that was when custom
10:48 laptops died for me And the fact that they make them even less upgradeable and
10:53 customizable now doesn't cost the
10:57 consumer any more money It just gets us better designs things like the Razer
11:01 Blade uh the Razer Blade 14 would not be possible if they were going to try and
11:05 go "Oh well we also have to build in the ability to upgrade the graphics card Gee
11:08 how are we going to do that We can't." Uh things like RAM and storage still
11:12 really need to be upgradeable And that's something that really irked me about the
11:16 Blade 14 the the last edition that I covered but I think I've kind of gone
11:21 off on a tangent here Um
11:24 dick move poor communication Um also something that users are not uh
11:31 understanding clearly enough is I see a lot of people saying "Oh well hey my GPU
11:36 temps were great so there was no concern." It actually doesn't work that
11:40 way There's that that's one temperature
11:43 for one component It has nothing to do
11:46 with monitoring the health of the entire rest of the graphics card because even
11:50 if it's integrated into another board and it's just like a sight cordoned off
11:54 part of the PCB it's still a full graphics card with VRM and memory
11:59 modules and a GPU and and all the other stuff that goes with that So if any of
12:04 those other components were running out of spec and just plain weren't designed
12:08 for it due to cost constraints or cooling constraints or whatever else the
12:12 case may be it could meet an untimely death even if the GPU itself was fine
12:17 and running at a frosty 60° Yeah So
12:21 frosty That's pretty good for a graphics card I know but it's not frosty
12:29 Anyways my laugh right now is amazing That's all I have to say That was
12:32 beautiful You You have like the um that video that was going around um about the
12:38 GTX 970 memory fiasco with the guy that laughs Oh yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
12:43 Like I can't even do that Like the we laugh I don't Yeah I don't know how to
12:46 do that Yeah Yeah
12:51 Oh my god Yeah Pretty good we laugh going on there Oh man that video was
12:56 actually hilarious All right so that was posted in the forum by uh Kabu Kabaru
13:01 I've never seen that before All right we've got one of our one of our classic
13:04 posters here This is it is official Posted by Good Bites RadioShack is
13:09 closing down permanently Files for bankruptcy Uh so our original article
13:15 here is from the verge.com
13:19 Um Oh I thought I had a touchcreen I went to scroll the page I hate my life
13:24 Wrecked Okay my life isn't bad My great life You have page down page up Yeah I
13:29 prefer function up down for that Yeah I'm a big fan of that Um anyway Radio
13:36 Shack clearance blowout 20% 50% off They
13:39 don't know how many% it is It's everything Um yeah just everything's
13:44 everything blows for them right now Um so basically let's Okay I thought that
13:49 Radio Shack was already gone Canada Yes Okay Cuz I was reading this article
13:54 going like what Circuit City acquired them acquired all the stores except I
13:59 think maybe like a couple or something Correct me if I'm wrong Didn't rebrand
14:03 some of them Rebranded it into the source which I'm not sure if it has ever
14:06 turned a I mean Canadians out there love to hear from you guys in the Twitch chat
14:10 Okay Have you ever bought anything from the source I have gone to the source
14:14 once I didn't buy anything there because they didn't h it was what was it NZX had
14:19 the exact same thing and at the source it was like $45 and at NZX I think it
14:24 was like three Okay like a huge difference We have got some people in
14:29 the Twitch chat that are actually kind of bothering me because you guys are
14:34 clearly new We got people saying Radio Shack sucks or sucked or whatever Radio
14:40 Shack might suck now but Radio Shack Radio Shack was the the the
14:45 [ __ ] was the [ __ ] It was awesome Like Radio Shack when when I was young Yeah I
14:51 know Oh I'm so No I Every story is going to be me being old today Uh I was I'm
14:56 old too then Okay Radio Shack was awesome when we were younger Like they
15:01 were the one place you could go to find that weird stupid battery that fits in
15:06 that weird stupid thing that you really need to get running Now open the cool
15:11 like remote control toys and whatnot as well Like that was the place where if if
15:16 Radio Shack still had their Mojo that would be the place where you go to buy
15:21 all like your DJI drones and like all that kind of cool stuff Like they would
15:25 have all the like the weird drone accessories for DIY repairing them and
15:29 stuff Like they used to have all that cool stuff Like if you just had to buy
15:32 like be like a Shapeways shipping portal and like all the like Yeah they used to
15:37 be really cool If Radio Shack hadn't forgotten who they were and started
15:41 trying to be Best Buy and sell TVs and cell phones cell phones Yeah Like has
15:47 anyone ever bought a cell phone at Radio
15:50 Shack Like why would you ever do this I don't understand And so okay Okay Now
15:55 we've got Now we've got some people that are that are Yeah Radio Yes Radio Shack
16:00 did take a massive dump around the year 2000 This is true They did It's just
16:06 that they used to be cool You see Flying Trout you cannot buy a resistor at
16:10 Walmart Just saying Exactly It was the
16:13 place you could go to buy a specific resistor or capacitor and they might
16:18 actually have it And then they stopped having that stuff and I stopped walking
16:22 in the door and then the game the game was over for them at that point pretty
16:25 much Um Yeah I feel like in the last 15 years they could have figured out how to
16:29 go back but they did not Yeah And like
16:33 Radio Shack used to have like PC games and stuff like it they and and like uh
16:37 they used to have like joysticks and like stuff that like geeky dudes would
16:42 like That was Radio Shack It wasn't a specific category but it'd be like "Yeah
16:47 I need some I need some like batteries car or a joystick or some weird battery
16:52 or resistor or a game or I need like something cool to play with." Or they'd
16:56 have like you know like back when those those clocks that had like the things
17:00 that went back and forth and the the timing of the LEDs was just so that you
17:04 could read a clock and it looked like it was kind of hovering in midair Like they just have like stupid cool crap and uh
17:09 now now they're dead So they're selling off 2400 of 4,000 US stores Uh rumors
17:15 that Sprint and Standard General may pick some of them up Uh so they'll live
17:20 on apparently through a store in a store agreement with Sprint and Standard
17:24 General So uh based on that Sprint is one of the purchasing entities I'm
17:29 guessing cell phones aren't coming off the menu at Radio Shack Um so Radio
17:34 Shack had an overall desk deficit of 0.19 billion as of November 1st 2014
17:40 and have failed to post a profit since 2011
17:44 So um someone in the there's a mini argument going on in Twitch chat about
17:49 whether or not Amazon is better Radio Shack they're not even the same at all
17:53 They have nothing to do with each other Yeah you can get resistors and stuff off
17:57 Amazon but like someone in the chat said you can't just drive there Yeah you
18:01 can't get it at 8:00 p.m when like you have a school like Okay here Perfect
18:06 example So like a school project Let's say for example totally hypothetical
18:10 you're making a wooden cutout dinosaur
18:13 that has like uh one of those one of
18:16 those mazes where it has like the wire thing maze and then you want to build
18:21 like a wand that you go and follow the maze with and then if you fail it
18:25 completes a circuit and lights up the eyeball of the dinosaur Let's say
18:28 hypothetically you ever wanted to build something like that Radio Shack would
18:33 probably be the place to go if you're like for like all of that for like all
18:37 that stuff It's like I need a weird stupid light bulb that goes in the eye
18:41 of a dinosaur radio shack and like the wand thing and the wire thing and
18:45 everything and then just get the other stuff from a craft store or just make it
18:49 out of wood or whatever All right So um
18:52 so that that's pretty much it for that So sad day but then I was sad back when
18:56 they died I was going to say it would have been a sad day if it was 15 years
18:59 ago Yeah Um you Oh this is interesting So Aming posted this on the forum Our
19:04 original article here is from Yahoo You got the uh you got the link All right
19:08 I'm gonna go ahead and screen share with you guys I actually one thing that's
19:11 nice about using this laptop is that I actually have an HDMI output now instead
19:15 of relying on um a DisplayPort adapter
19:20 So I think it should be more stable and more likely to work So for police body
19:25 cameras big costs loom in storing the
19:28 footage something that people that are techsavvy are not going to be surprised
19:33 by I'm sure a lot of our viewers are sitting there going "Why are you even talking about this?" Duh
19:40 Uh but mainstream folks like the you
19:43 know government officials that are calling for this um are just kind of
19:49 going to kind of going to go "Oh well you know it's must be easy." No actually
19:55 like a big really difficult problem If you've got thousands of videos like
20:00 we're talking we're talking hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours a week
20:04 even thousands of hours a week you deploy these on you know Okay so in Duth
20:08 Minnesota I probably pronounced that wrong I don't care Sorry to everyone from Minnesota Um 110 officer warn
20:14 cameras are generating 8,000 to 10,000
20:17 videos per month And you got to store
20:21 this stuff You can't store it forever for one thing Okay So you got to store
20:25 this stuff for at least some period of time So 30 30 days They're thinking 30
20:29 days but but longer in many cases apparently In many cases longer because
20:35 what if you got rid of something on day 30 that someone sends in a complaint
20:41 about on day 31 all of a sudden Wait we
20:45 need a system for oh we can only delete
20:48 the stuff that um absolutely nothing
20:51 happened but we can't review all the footage at the time that it happens
20:56 which Oh hold on a second Now we need an administrative system Now we need some
21:00 kind of software archival management
21:04 thing Just upload all of it to YouTube
21:09 I had two plans One of them was upload all of it to YouTube If that doesn't
21:13 work throw Daily Motion a bone They want some videos They'd be happy with 8,000
21:18 more videos a month Throw them on Daily Motion The other one is maybe repurpose
21:23 some NSA data centers
21:26 I'm sure the American citizenry would be happy with that That's a big problem
21:30 though because the the municipalities are saying "Hey you guys are throwing
21:33 the burden on us to pay thousands of
21:37 dollars for these cameras," which are nothing not even approaching the cost of
21:40 running the program But we're supposed to you know have these contracts and
21:44 licensing uh agreements for data storage and we're supposed to buy these cameras
21:49 We're supposed to train our officers on how to use them and how to not you know
21:53 obstruct them So that something they let's say an officer did something
21:56 inadvertently where they covered it up and all of a sudden they're you know the
22:00 latest you know plastered all over signs
22:03 and everywhere because they whatever You got to train the officers on how to use
22:06 these They're police officers not like camera operators Um and the
22:12 municipalities are going "Well hold on a second You guys are telling us we have to do this Where's this money coming
22:16 from Like is it is it coming out of the you know military budget where they're
22:21 buying tanks and planes and whatever crap they're buying Like do we get some
22:26 of that money No So it just comes out of it just comes out of our budget So what
22:30 are we supposed to are we supposed to lay off police officers so that we can
22:34 big brother the rest of the police officers And I'm not saying to be clear
22:38 I am not saying that law enforcement officials do not need to be held
22:44 accountable for what they're doing This needs to be a better properly laid out
22:48 plan so that this can actually work or an actual plan Yeah Yeah A plan cuz they
22:52 just said you have to do it They didn't really give any information about how or
22:55 anything did they So so um Sergeant Jason Halifax actually has a great quote
23:01 Everyone is screaming we need body cameras but no one is saying where is
23:05 the money coming from What are you going to do with all the data Who is going to
23:09 manage it Are we going to cut personnel Are we going to increase taxes Great
23:13 point Great point Sergeant Halifax I uh
23:16 agree completely So that's basically just it's it's another one of those give
23:22 every officer their own YouTube channel their own private YouTube channel It's
23:26 another one of those things where it's like seriously though it's it's like
23:30 this hairbrain scheme that someone well-intentioned comes up with like uh h
23:35 what was it Is it Toronto where they banned plastic shopping bags And then it
23:39 turned it turned out that the waste from all the paper shopping bags that
23:44 replaced them ended up being much more harmful to the environment and also just
23:49 less easy to use and like all these other problems Um yeah it's like we got
23:54 to we got to or or or the whole um crap
23:58 I forget what it is but there's some there's some food like it's a vegan or
24:02 vegetarian like it's a popular food that's actually more environmentally
24:06 harmful to produce than beef What And
24:10 the argument for I I can't I can't remember what it is exactly but it's a
24:13 lot of these well-intentioned things that in practice actually just don't
24:16 make an ounce of sense At least not yet and not without a proper plan I think
24:19 this does They just need to figure out their data storage makes a ton of sense
24:22 because the amount of like you look at how bloated the legal system is now to
24:27 get anything done anything done cameras
24:30 are an excellent solution And then the funny thing is though it's it's it's
24:34 always it's always hilarious because as soon as law enforcement tries to use
24:37 cameras to back up any claim they make against the civilian or whoever it is
24:41 that they're trying to enforce the law against it's probably the same group of
24:45 people getting buttthard about traffic cameras as the people who are calling
24:49 for the cops to have cameras monitoring what they're doing You understand Like I
24:53 I hope people understand what they're asking for here You are asking for your
24:59 complaint about the police officer to be
25:02 basically thrown out immediately because it's like yeah we got we got a camera
25:06 There's no debate to be had here But the good news about all of this is that the
25:10 savings is going to come about eventually I'm not going to get into
25:15 politics but those are two very different conversations that you just tried to merge into one They are Okay
25:21 like very different because you're talking about observing people who are
25:25 currently employed to be administering other people No you're talking about
25:28 observing the people that they're observing but your main action that
25:33 you're observing is the officer It is but it's also the stationary camera is a
25:38 very different situation It's both And the the Yeah it's both I'm just saying
25:42 that the people who are upset about being filmed Yes But the traffic cameras
25:47 thing is traffic cameras The whole automated thing okay most of the
25:52 argument against traffic cameras that I think really holds water is that they're
25:56 an outright money grab They have nothing to do with safety They have nothing to
26:01 do with upholding the law They have to do with planting them in places where
26:05 for nothing for the cost of a van sitting next to the road or in some
26:08 cases now it's gotten even less expensive back when they implemented in BC before they got rid of the whole
26:13 photo radar van thing They were they were stationed in vans Um I don't know
26:18 if I've ever told this story on the WAN Show before but I knew someone who knew
26:22 someone who uh who had just an utterly epic story about photo radar So all
26:28 photo radar vans were these white vans They were these white windowless vans
26:31 and they would park on the side of the road and then basically it was autopilot
26:35 There was an officer sitting in there but they didn't have to do anything because it would just mail you uh it
26:39 would mail you a violation notice in the month a month later or whatever Um so
26:44 one of the cops who was off duty arranged not sure how to borrow another
26:51 photo radar van because he knew that one
26:55 of his colleagues would just sleep in the van So what he did was he waited
26:59 until that colleague was on photo radar duty borrowed another van
27:06 drove up made sure he was sleeping swapped the plates
27:10 on the two vans and then spent the next couple hours speeding past
27:17 his own trap repeatedly
27:21 So while that officer was on duty there
27:24 was like a couple dozen speeding violations for the van that he was
27:29 supposed to be driving
27:33 That's actually so awesome That is It was like It's like the most amazing
27:37 troll that I think I have ever heard of That's great It's fantastic Yeah know
27:42 there's again I don't think we should talk about politics too much but there's
27:46 there's things with like the u public should not be automatically assumed
27:50 guilty and therefore not observed blah blah blah I don't know it's a very deep
27:55 conversation the thing about the photo radar though is that there is no assumption the radar is first the photo
28:00 comes later that's not the conversation so so there's so anyway so the whole the
28:04 whole thing is that the police officers
28:07 are being monitored it's a difficult IT question that they didn't expect yes
28:12 pretty much and everyone's being more monitored and that's what's happening
28:17 I'm just I'm just interested in how they're going to deal with it Right now they have their contracting agreement
28:22 Yeah So they have a three-year contracting agreement for 78 grand for
28:26 storing uh I think that was what um 110
28:29 officers 84 cameras Yeah This was Duth Minnesota Yeah Um like I I think they
28:35 need to localize that a little bit
28:39 I think that might be better Yeah I don't I don't know I don't I don't know
28:44 what or honestly I I wasn't I was maybe a little bit joking when I was talking
28:48 about YouTube but seriously a private account that isn't uploading the videos
28:53 to the public that is like that is like a terrible stupid solution
28:58 that might actually work Like but but but but I mean the the the agreement
29:05 you'd have to enter into with YouTube about you know who that footage belongs
29:09 to and privacy and all that like it it's completely untenable
29:13 Completely untenable but
29:16 it's just all right It would work if you weren't like actually the police Posted
29:21 by nine shadow Uh this original source here is global.samsungto.com
29:27 Samsung has updated their um uh their
29:32 ULA to basically say "Look we are not monitoring your living room
29:36 conversations." Uh because no one believed ever
29:40 hopefully Um like "Look we're the only
29:44 thing we're listening to is voice commands Uh because there was kind of a
29:48 a sketch looking a sketch looking warning about not talking about personal
29:52 information in front of Samsung smart TVs um their privacy policy was updated
29:57 warning users they shouldn't talk about sensitive information and then now it's
30:01 saying whoa hold on a second um yes you
30:05 know information could be among data captured transmitted to a third party
30:08 but hold on blah blah blah they we take our users information privacy very
30:12 seriously users can opt out of voice recognition whenever they please um no
30:18 longer mentions any sensitive information reiterates that users can disable voice recognition whenever they
30:22 please so I I suspect Heck actually nothing has changed It's just Yeah it's
30:27 just a ULA reversion designing it differently or whatever This one's
30:31 pretty good though This was posted by Victoria Secret and there's a great
30:34 Reddit thread There's always a great Reddit thread for just about anything isn't there Um where someone posts well
30:40 hold on a second Plex stopped playing my
30:43 video halfway through and played a Pepsi ad Um so this was posted by uh Beans90
30:50 and there's a 34 point upvote comment that says "Yep just Googled this to find
30:55 out what's going on Never had this in the two months I've been using Plex but
30:58 today all of a sudden it began I'm glad I'm not the only one Every movie I play
31:03 20 to 30 minutes in plays this Pepsi ad No audio but crisp clear ad It has
31:09 happened on six movies today." Oh yes Uh mine is a Samsung TV also Six movies
31:15 today This guy's going ham Who watches six movies What is he watching
31:20 Sorry completely unrelated That just that blew my mind a little bit This is
31:25 crazy So now to be clear Plex has
31:28 already said "Wo not us." Uh actually we had nothing to
31:33 do with this And um this is not the only
31:37 application that users are experienced have experienced this in Uh so native
31:42 smart TV apps uh so the Foxtel TV service app in Australia is experiencing
31:47 the same commercials So there's a Foxtel
31:50 employee that was quoted as saying this absolutely should not be happening and
31:55 is being escalated immediately Uh there's no word from Samsung as of
31:59 February 11th when the article was posted but it is speculated that it may
32:03 be a new ad insertion platform that may have been accidentally turned on by
32:07 default in certain apps Although none of this has been confirmed
32:12 Wow Yeah I have at this at no point in
32:16 time have I ever wanted a smart TV I can't think of a reason that I would
32:21 need it to exist Although um crap I feel
32:25 like a terrible person I think it's Sony
32:30 is using Android TV for all of their
32:33 smart TVs now like instead of the stupid like phenomenally stupid propri
32:39 Interesting But like I just I want a good dumb TV and then I just want to
32:43 plug uh chcast into it Yeah that's all I
32:47 want Dumb TVs don't even exist anymore I mean every single TV is a smart TV now I
32:51 know So get wrecked I know Yeah Well
32:55 wait What What are those Uh what's that cheap Korean brand Uh Samsung
33:02 No no that's the expensive Korean brand Sorry No they uh crap They came up with
33:07 like the really affordable 4K stuff really early Um Oh
33:13 some It starts with an S Those are all not smart right Yeah I don't think they
33:17 are See Seyo Seyo something Seyo's
33:21 watches No I think it is See those lines
33:25 I I don't think those are smart TVs Okay
33:28 man Talking is hard Got people saying
33:32 Vizio I don't think Vizio is a Korean brand
33:35 I don't know what Vizio is Um all right So basically this is this is a big load
33:40 of crap Um so Samsung there's nothing
33:44 else even really to say This is just stupid We're on the record as this is an
33:49 completely ginormous load of crap Like I literally bought a piece of hardware
33:54 from you and you actually don't get to
33:57 serve me ads on it
34:01 Mind you I mean okay if we if we if we
34:04 break this down a little bit is it different from buying a laptop with a
34:08 Trial of Norton on it That is an ad At least you know that's coming
34:14 Well maybe they put it on the box now with 30% more ad Jen But it's not right
34:21 But what if they did Would you feel any better about it No But I wouldn't buy
34:25 that TV What if they all did it Then I
34:29 wouldn't buy a TV You already don't buy a TV Okay Well so the point is
34:36 we we strongly disagree with this and I think we may just might as well move on
34:40 because it's not like you and I are going to debate this point Um
34:45 so in the sketchiest thing ever Oh Oh are
34:50 we moving on to that This is a sketchy weird article This is like this is like
34:55 a horrible horrible horrible list of may
34:59 I don't know Um so FCC commissioner says
35:02 this was posted by commandman7 Um the article that we've got here is
35:08 breakitbart.com and
35:11 uh there's a there's an autoplay Oops
35:14 There's an autoplay video here that I would really like to I guess it doesn't
35:18 really matter because I have my audio muted So here we go Here's a picture of
35:25 one of the two one of the two Republican FCC commissioners with President Obama's
35:30 332page plan to regulate the internet
35:33 That is very strong wording designed to
35:37 incite upset I wish the public could see what's inside It's got about 4500
35:43 retweets Um so inferred in a tweet that the
35:48 document is basically a scheme for federal micromanaging of the internet to
35:51 extract billions in new taxes from consumers Um
35:57 and I guess the only thing I really have
36:01 to say about this article and then the
36:04 fantastic one high taxes heavy-handed controls and the status quo uh linked at
36:10 the bottom here is that the amount of
36:14 the the Okay I think I don't know if we
36:18 want to use this site as a reference anymore Uh because it looks like the
36:22 folks that are relying on these articles
36:26 for their information have some have some information to gain about the
36:32 internet and stuff The comments under this second article in particular are
36:37 fantastic like about how the you know
36:41 title two is is going to basically all
36:45 that stuff that you know gets written by
36:49 executives at telecoms and then signed
36:52 by government officials who are in their pocket It's like paring of that It's
36:57 fantastic I love it I thought we were streaming this I'm kind of happy we're
37:01 not No we're not streaming it because basically it's a whole lot of terrible I
37:05 was like pretty sure what they were and I was like why are we showing this So um
37:10 President Obama's plan marks a monumental shift I think I already said
37:15 that the plan saddles small independent
37:18 businesses and entrepreneurs with heavy-handed regulations that will push
37:22 them out of the market Something Okay Something I don't like about any of this
37:26 is here's this thing you can't read and you can't know what's in it except
37:30 here's what's in it I have a feeling all this stuff that they're telling us might
37:35 not even be right Um okay I'm not agreeing with or disagreeing with it
37:39 Just we would need to be able to see what's in it before This is no accident
37:43 Title 2 was designed to regulate a monopoly If we impose that model on a
37:48 vibrant broadband marketplace
37:52 I guess if we did impose it on a vibrant broadband marketplace this might be
37:56 applicable Um a highly regulated monopoly is what we'll get now That's
38:01 what we have right now To be clear they have right now That is a that is that is
38:05 a valid point other than the vibrant marketplace bit the whole bit about
38:09 regulated monopolies not really being great either because that's that's
38:13 basically what we've got on the telco side as it is So title two remember the
38:18 thing that we're all sort of going harrah about is reclassifying the
38:22 internet with under title 2 as um as a
38:27 utility which honestly hasn't worked out that great for us on the phone up till
38:33 now either because you still have no choice
38:38 Yay Um so so that is a valid point but
38:42 the the part where this really misses the mark is calling the vibrant
38:46 broadband marketplace vibrant and a marketplace because it it's not It it it
38:52 is horrible It's even more horrible than a regulated monopoly So it is is it
38:56 perfect No Is it a step in the right direction Yes Is treating it as anything
39:00 other than a step in the right direction just
39:04 nonsense And to reiterate we have no idea what this thing says Yeah that's a
39:10 big problem We have no clue I'm not I can't agree or disagree with
39:15 it because what the hell is inside Well I can disagree with the way it's being
39:19 spun which tells me what I sort it gives me it gives me some idea what the
39:23 credibility is here If we're going to call if we're going to call Telos a
39:29 vibrant broadband marketplace then we're wrong We have no idea what's going on We
39:34 were wrong before we opened our mouths and that's unfortunate All right so
39:38 let's move on to more unfortunate news
39:41 Sorry sponsors Oh yeah Yeah yeah yeah He's telling me to do sponsors It's okay
39:45 We'll do sponsors in a bit Uh this one is pretty good This was posted by Cat
39:49 Butts I actually didn't mean to whisper that as hardcore as I did It just wasn't
39:55 Um also Cat Butts is awesome He has a YouTube channel that I used to watch
39:58 before I started working with you and was a member of our forum and stuff Yeah
40:02 Wow cool Yeah Um who else were we
40:05 supposed to do a shout out for today Right Yeah Shout out for Paul Paul's
40:10 Hardware YouTube.com/paul's hardware Uh let's just go ahead and
40:16 screen share this Uh so Paul is doing a giveaway Um look at him with his blatant
40:22 advertising his how to build a computer video that is clearly inferior to our
40:26 how to build a computer video Uh this is the silent build giveaway So it's like a
40:30 4770K and uh some card with a GTX and uh
40:35 some 8 gigs of RAM and some pretty cool stuff And I you probably have to be
40:41 subscribed or something which is unfortunate cuz look at this guy and the
40:44 t-shirt he wears Wow he wears a shirt with himself on it What a nerd
40:53 I wear that shirt too Yeah it also has you on it I know Okay So as long as
40:57 we've understood as long as we've understood the the layers of irony here
41:02 it is 100% collateral damage myself
41:07 That would be a great name for a band 100% collateral damage
41:15 You like have to smash your whole set every show no matter what I'm adding
41:18 that to our intro slogans There's a dock I should get you added on
41:23 it We're just gonna like continue adding to it For the Mayo one it's going to be
41:27 like Luke is sick or something I saw a couple of great ones on the uh on the
41:32 forum thread where someone was complaining I saw you responded to it
41:35 already where someone was complaining about um do as we say not as we do being
41:39 under our logo saying it was unprofessional And I was like people
41:42 came up with a couple other ones that make us sound like idiots I was like "Oh
41:45 these are great These are comedy gold I'm I'm putting these in the thread."
41:49 That's awesome Um so intro Oh Oh bloody
41:54 hell Uh intro thing 100% collateral
41:58 damage Yeah you actually have the voice for it
42:03 right now Too bad I can't sing at all I
42:07 That's fine I think for that style All right so um our source here is the Jay's
42:13 two cents forum So we've got a post from
42:16 this guy Wow So is this like worse than
42:19 WCCF tech or I I I don't I don't know Uh
42:23 but basically Jay's saying I've had some discussions with people This has been
42:27 this has been all over the place So we're going to treat this whole thing as
42:33 basically none of this information is
42:36 confirmed It is all hearsay But
42:39 basically a post showed up on overclock.net where someone was saying
42:43 "I am a former employee the owner has suffered has struggled with addiction or
42:48 something along those lines and there is no reason to believe that frozen CPU
42:53 will be back up and running There has been damage to the premises Um and then
42:58 sort of there's nothing on the site to this day There's nothing on the frozen
43:03 CPU.com website Um and then other people
43:06 have allegedly posted
43:09 here I have pictures of the alleged
43:13 damage inside the frozen CPU
43:16 headquarters So there's like parts of the office look pretty pretty trashed Um
43:23 so I like that picture This is like oh okay Here's this broken thing Here's
43:29 some like here's a beer bottle and all that kind of stuff Um
43:35 and so someone from a water cooling manufacturer said "Yes this is confirmed
43:40 in the thread." Then the owner of the aforementioned water cooling
43:44 manufacturer went in and said "Whoa hold on a second We cannot speak for Frozen
43:47 CPU None of this is confirmed." Um I I I
43:52 actually I've exchanged emails with but never met the owner Mark from Frozen CPU
43:58 Um I I do know Matthew Buckner from Frozen CPU but honestly I just out of
44:04 sheer respect for the quantity of emails
44:08 that they're probably dealing with I have not emailed either of them I
44:12 probably will at some point here but I have not emailed either of them to ask
44:16 what's go what's going on Um
44:20 yeah it's really unfortunate
44:24 and like something's got to be going on if there isn't an official post
44:27 somewhere So the site is still online Uh so okay so rumors have it that Frozen
44:33 CPU has said that they are running on a skeleton crew and they'll be back up and
44:37 running Um the ex employee
44:41 said something like physical damage of the warehouse has occurred as well as
44:44 dismissal of all support and warehouse staff The site is still online still
44:48 accepting orders So we're going to take
44:51 a wait and see approach with this one Yeah that's pretty much all of them
44:55 Speaking of things that we'll need to wait and see about this was posted by a
44:59 Ming on the forum and this is the new
45:03 cutting edge my friends If you were running network cables that were not
45:09 Audioqu Quest Diamond RJ
45:12 whatever that is Ethernet cables before
45:16 then you were completely doing it wrong and you need to get your life back in
45:21 gear because this is the new standard These network cables are made of Here
45:26 hold on a second I'm going to bring up the uh I'm going to bring up the
45:30 Dang it Dang it Windows 8 All right
45:34 They represent a lifetime's research and
45:38 are the first so so the first you know twisted pair Ethernet standard just to
45:42 be clear 10bas t was published in 1990 so the relevant engineers are must be 25
45:47 years old max um these are directional
45:50 Ethernet cables I mean you wouldn't want birectional communication you know um
45:56 discombobulating the waveforms and the
45:59 beating heart of the audio quest diamond are the solid solid 100% silver perfect
46:06 surface conductors where raw silver raw
46:09 silver as opposed to cooked silver raw silver is processed by drawing through
46:14 at a much slower speed than normal to create an ultra smooth surface area
46:19 surface free of indents and grooves
46:23 because the way that we all know I mean we all know I hope we know do you know
46:27 that the way that it works is the electrons are like hurdle jumpers okay
46:31 they're like curling rocks in a race in a race Okay if an electron you know
46:37 traveling along a wire hits a hurdle all
46:41 of a sudden that electron is going to arrive out of phase with the rest of the
46:44 electrons And think about it this way That's how DOS works Did you know that
46:49 the Earth if shrunk down to the size of
46:52 a pool ball if it was shrunk down it would actually be smoother than an
46:56 actual pool ball Did you know that That's actually that's actually a fact
47:00 Um and so these these tiny wires for
47:04 these tiny electrons to not hit a hurdle need to be completely smooth And the
47:09 silver surface is reflective which aids
47:13 their travel It's also an antibacterial agent It's also an antibacter that
47:16 actually is true but has nothing to do with Ethernet Um none of what else none
47:21 of this had anything to do with Ethernet So So these are $10,000
47:26 I think that conversion may have been done incorrectly Maybe it's like 10,000
47:29 Canadian rupees Um so 4700 Great Britain
47:34 pound 8 meter Ethernet cables for idiots
47:39 Um they have a 5year warranty Um they are supposedly Audio Quest brand which I
47:46 guess stupid like ridiculous junk We'll just throw audio file on it I guess it
47:50 like if you're streaming if you're streaming from you know a NAS music
47:56 files then you want those electrons to not get hurdle hurdle blocked Um so what
48:02 what so I'm I'm just going to read the blurb because it's hilarious The diamond
48:06 is a top grade Ethernet cable which is the result of a lifetime's research by
48:10 Audioqu Quest made from the very best materials available This really is a
48:14 money is no object cable for the dedicated hi-fi enthusiast that has
48:18 extended into a world of digital audio sources by extending the thought process
48:24 of quality cabling from a server PC or
48:27 media streamer to the router Extending the thought process from a server to a
48:32 router further detail can be realized and restrictive shackles loosened
48:38 Audioqu Quest's Diamond RJ is a directional Ethernet cable made with the
48:42 same hallmark materials philosophy care and attention that is applied to all
48:46 their internet connects Whether it's an entry-level introduction to hi-fi or a
48:51 dyed in the wool music connoisseur
48:54 I think I think they got dyed wrong there That's a very different dye Dyed
48:58 in the wool What does that mean Another upgrade is
49:03 the complete plug redesign You don't get to redesign the RJ45 connector
49:10 Made from silver with tabs that are virtually unbreakable The plug comes
49:14 with added strain relief and firmly lock into place ensuring no critical data is
49:19 lost Critical data Am I listening to music or is it critical data
49:24 Directionality All audio cables are directional
49:29 The correct direction is determined by listening to every batch of metal
49:33 conductors used in every audio quest audio cable Are you serious I arrows are
49:38 clearly marked on the conductors to ensure superior sound quality For best
49:41 results have the arrow pointing in the direction of the flow of music
49:47 So for best results so you don't even have to really all insulation slows down
49:53 the signal on the conductor inside Man
49:57 that sentence When insulation is unbiased it slows down parts of the
50:02 signal differently A big problem for time-sensitive
50:06 multioctave audio
50:14 You should be able to get sued for this stuff
50:20 Wow
50:23 I hadn't actually read the product page yet I hadn't finished I hadn't gotten to
50:28 that part That was fun I didn't either I
50:32 read this and was like "Oh it's another one of those things." That was really
50:35 fun Like you know monster cables Okay Sometimes you can get monster cables on
50:39 promo for like twice as much as a cheapo
50:43 cable And I would I would argue for buying them at that point because they are going to tend to have like better
50:48 strain relief connectors and they're nice sle They might have sle on them
50:51 which sle on HDMI cables which you have to run potentially through like wooden
50:56 cut holes and stuff can actually be helpful Can actually be nice We're
50:59 talking physical damage to the cable Longer HDMI connectors with a better
51:03 quality connector thicker gauge wire It may make a difference It may be the
51:07 difference between it works at all or doesn't work at all which by the way for digital is the only standard it works or
51:12 it doesn't work for a video cable Um so
51:16 I Okay you know what I'm done and I don't want to talk about it anymore That was that just they're BS That was fun
51:22 but I need to I need to move on with my life Um so speaking of moving on with my
51:27 life linda.com is the way to move on with your life How do you segway

53:34 been using the same blade for like two months I think
53:39 Why do you have to do everything wrong
53:44 I'll I'll re tell you what Tell you what I will I will buy you a Dollar Shave
53:48 Club subscription Okay Because it's important You're going to you're going
53:52 to like hurt your skin with like dull razors It's bad It's bad Anyway for only
53:57 a few dollars a month Dollar Shave Club saves you the hassle of going to the
54:01 department store or wherever they keep all the razor blades under lock and key
54:06 nearby you If you happen to be too lazy to buy razors then having the monthly
54:10 subscription makes sure that you're using a fresh blade every week and
54:14 getting the best shave possible so you can look like a well-groomed human being
54:18 without ever having to actually step outside the house and you can save a few
54:22 bucks while you're at it I think the best thing about Dollar Shave Club for
54:25 me is that the countries that they exist in so Canada Australia New Zealand and
54:30 the US Funny story about the New Zealand thing by the way Um they they price
54:35 things reasonably They don't just go "Oh arbitrary It costs three times as much
54:40 tax because you're from Canada." I love that Companies that are like "Look we
54:45 have a margin target This is how much so much worse this is how much our product
54:49 costs us and this is this is how we're going to do it Love that That's a high
54:54 integrity way of doing business So the New Zealand story um I called out in a
54:59 Dollar Shave Club sponsor spot online as tech tips that they're available in
55:03 Canada US and New Zealand Nick spazzed
55:07 because we had they they didn't say that they
55:11 were in New Zealand and like freaked out and was like "Yo dog what's going on and
55:16 he like sent an apologetic email to Dollar Shave Club and they're just like
55:20 "How did you know that?" Yeah we we just rolled it out
55:24 And Nick's like "Yeah we're paying really close attention." Okay And he
55:29 asked me about it and I'm like "Yeah no I straight up screwed it up I I I
55:32 screwed up I thought Australia and New Zealand." Telepathically connected I
55:36 knew it was I knew it was somewhere butt wipes I knew it was somewhere butt wipes
55:40 gives you a mental connection Oh yeah They don't just have razors They also
55:44 have butt wipes for men They have after shave They have their shave butter All
55:47 all kinds of good stuff So okay Okay I I think we should move on to This is new
55:53 Yeah this is very new Uh Nick you can go
55:56 Whatever you have to say isn't going to be nice to me I wanted to say thank you
56:00 for sticking to the script And also you're the worst
56:05 You know how it is Love you buddy Um
56:08 look my mountain kind of goes with the logo So this is a product that we have
56:13 been using very extensively over the
56:16 last couple of years and XSplit has actually launched a new version of
56:21 XSplit V2
56:25 that uh actually I mean we didn't really have any complaints about XSplit for a
56:29 long time like in the early days once we figured out how to use once we mostly
56:32 well they did have some issues too it didn't used to be 100% So we've been
56:36 streaming the WAN Show on XSplit since the very first WAN Show I believe Yeah
56:42 since since before the WAN Show was the WAN Show we've been using XSplit We
56:46 really like the software It's stable It's feature reasonably rich There's
56:50 still a couple things that I might want to ask for but for game streamers or for
56:55 like proumer grade broadcasters like us
56:58 you've got a ton of options Being able to stream at any resolution having it be
57:02 easy enough to configure in only a couple of minutes and being extremely
57:06 affordable makes XSplit definitely our platform of choice which we don't have
57:10 to we don't have to like say it's our platform of choice because we just
57:14 switched to using it because they sponsored us No we've been using it for a long time You can learn like video
57:19 editing and like video management stuff from Linda Make yourself look better
57:23 with Dollar Shave Club and then stream to the world with XSplit Yeah it all
57:27 goes together really well So XSplit V2 uh they have some notes for
57:32 for me to kind of call out because we've been using it for a little bit here but
57:35 it has powerful new production tools built to meet the needs of today's
57:38 content creators Um makes audio video It
57:41 has an audio video mixing application that allows anyone to create
57:45 professional quality live broadcasts and video recordings like what we're doing
57:49 right now It supports all kinds of different Okay I'm just Okay I'm
57:52 abandoning their notes because I like my way better Uh it supports all kinds of
57:56 different broadcasting modes So you can broadcast at different frame rates and
57:59 different resolutions You can broadcast at different bit rates according to
58:03 what's going to work out best for you and the service that you happen to be
58:06 broadcasting on It's fantastic It has so many more options compared to free stuff
58:12 like NVIDIA's Shadow Play that for many game streamers it's sort of competing
58:17 against but in my mind it's not really a competition if you're trying to have a
58:21 professional looking stream because the options are extremely limited And an
58:25 exploit gives us the ability to do all kinds of stuff like bring in uh bring in
58:28 video callers very easily Um capture portions of the screen and mix and match
58:33 them and switch them around and have like transitions
58:39 That's all automatic We don't actually do that stuff Um what else am I talking
58:42 about Yeah I'm supposed to talk about Gamecaster Game cer is one I haven't
58:45 used as much just because we have the full broadcaster but it's great for
58:48 gamers that are looking to get started You can easily stream and record your greatest gaming moments can broadcast to
58:53 live streaming services such as YouTube Live Twitch Ustream and more And the
58:57 best thing is that XSplit the free license is
59:02 you guessed it free So visit xplit.com/Linus
59:05 to try it out The paid license the one we have allows like more scenes and
59:09 higher quality audio and uh probably a number of other things but those are the
59:13 big ones for us that are why we go with the with the professional license So we
59:17 can have like all these different lower thirds So thanks to Flip Dollar Shave
59:21 Club linda.com and Linus TechTips for
59:24 powering the WAN Show today All right let's go ahead and uh move into our next
59:30 topic here which is awesome What's our next topic You go ahead The drones in
59:34 France Oh I love this thing My voice is like super done Yeah it's super super I
59:39 need water Um Nick I don't know if he's going to
59:44 hear you Anyways I posted it in the Twitch chat No one's going to hear you
59:49 I'm still trying to find it I want to play that video There have been people
59:52 that have been Oh it's it's just control F4 dude Uh this was posted by Victoria
59:56 Secret on the forum Yes And this video is amazing I like I love this thing Um
60:02 so basically there's been an issue with um let's go ahead and screen share
60:07 People flying drones over top of French uh nuclear reactors
60:12 like DJI drones So uh Wow So they're
60:16 deploying anti- drone drones to go find
60:19 those drones and break their [ __ ]
60:23 Wow I expected to like fly it down but nope Holy crap Nope Love it Absolutely
60:30 Absolutely love the way that uh the way that that just got done So um I guess
60:36 the real conversation here is is not uh
60:39 is not You know what they should do They've probably done this to a certain degree but I want them to bring it to
60:43 like TV and make it mainstream You know how they had robot wars Like drone wars
60:47 I think someone must be trying to do that on TV though
60:52 Dang I'm not sure I know that Uh I know that uh what's that show that's coming
60:56 back Battlebots is coming back Really Yeah Battlebots is coming back I
61:01 don't know if they're still going to have like Carmen Electra and stuff but Oh I don't care But the format is coming
61:05 back All I care about was the robots I didn't even know she was on there Me
61:10 neither Someone else told me I had no clue I was like I think I was young
61:14 enough when Battlebots was cool but hadn't you know matured yet Yeah So so
61:19 to speak Uh
61:23 that's cool I loved that show That show was awesome I remember my favorite my
61:28 favorite battlebot ever was this completely OP spinning one that just
61:32 like it it it went up against some like elaborate contraption that was like yes
61:38 I will do this and I will do that and then it was just like this like super
61:41 fast spinning one It basically like went up to it and just like broke pieces off
61:45 of the other just like it would like try to attack it and the spinning one just
61:49 crack pieces off it Love that bots Um
61:54 let's go ahead and
61:57 uh Oh yeah So right So drones and and
62:01 privacy and all this kind of stuff I actually posted this on Twitter last
62:05 night That's good footage Holy crap Uh here's some footage of Yes I know I'm
62:09 live on Twitch Like it should not show me that I'm me just like how it shows
62:15 That's a verification that it's working Ads I guess So fine Fine But ads on my
62:19 own videos verification that they're enabled Verification that they're enabled but I'm not technically allowed
62:23 to click on my own ads or as far as I know watch my own ads Like I think
62:27 that's against the user So that's why I have ads enabled for my account on the
62:31 forum So this is 1080p Um so this isn't
62:36 the most interesting part I think I go up quite a bit higher
62:40 So as drone cameras get better and better
62:45 and better the ability to spy on people
62:48 and things is going to get become more
62:52 and more and more of a concern So I mean you know right now maybe it's a nuclear
62:57 power plant which is like enough of a problem but you know hey you want to
63:01 keep track of the route you know that kid takes home from school or like
63:06 there's all kinds of this is amazing creepy stuff that you can do with this
63:09 And this I didn't even go that high I still had the 30 m cap on I increased
63:13 I'm amazed how stable it is I increased it to 60 on my next flight and um I
63:18 didn't upload that one unfortunately But this is uh this is me and my son down
63:21 here Yeah it's absolutely incredible the
63:25 kind of video quality that we're getting off of these drones these days So I I
63:29 think it's cool that the French have come up with a creative solution to
63:34 eliminating I love how medieval that net is I know I love it That's so cool It's
63:39 like we just wrecked your stuff Get dunked Uh so so far 13 of the country's
63:43 19 facilities have been buzzed So they're looking to for a way to stop
63:47 quadcopters from messing with nuclear reactors Um
63:52 blah blah blah The drone that was photographed is an Interceptor MP200 So
63:57 you've got to check out uh
64:00 where is it And they used the Interceptor to catch a DJI Phantom that
64:05 was piloted by Bill Dubois the company CEO I think it's this So the Interceptor
64:10 is a much larger and faster drone with six rotors and the net it carries is uh
64:15 pretty BS Um Luke has another link to a
64:18 to an effective method for taking out drones This is the kamicazi kamicazi So
64:23 this little guy just goes nuts and smashes itself into the other one And
64:28 you can see still frame shots of how it works So if you scroll down
64:33 so it flies into the other drone and just mashes into its propellers breaking
64:37 stuff off and then they both crash It's a lot cheaper than the one with the net
64:41 because the one with the net has to be very strong has six propellers to be able to carry the net cuz the net is
64:46 really happy uh heavy Sorry This one is very inexpensive and just nails into
64:51 other ones Hilarious Um wow Yeah it's
64:55 just this little quadwing little thing
64:59 And you can see just Yeah they're both just super wrecked
65:02 Wow Awesome I love it I got to imagine
65:06 firing a projectile would be easier than carrying a net Part of the Yeah And
65:11 you're kind of firing projectile with this The reason why you don't want to fire something like a bullet is because
65:15 it could miss No bullet No No But I I didn't mean bullet I meant like uh like
65:20 um like some kind of like like if you could if you like and I don't know if
65:25 this exists but like a goopy surf sur like a goopy substance Like if you could
65:30 just fire like like a ball of like stringy/goopy stuff that tangles it or
65:35 something like basically Yeah If you could fire like a ball of yarn at a
65:38 drone that would be very likely to take it down yarn is going to have troubles
65:41 flying Yeah So unless it's actually a
65:45 tight ball and it's not going to do anything or if it impacts and like
65:48 unfolds or something like if it was like a spring-loaded like all the yarn kind
65:52 of goes everywhere and you hit something or whatever Yeah Yeah Yeah Like you
65:55 could probably make something that is an entanglement mechanism that you could
65:59 fire at other drones Um but I mean you
66:03 know this works Yeah Boom Yeah Um speaking of things that work uh this was
66:08 posted by Victoria Secret The article we've got here is from TechCrunch
66:12 Apple's activation lock leading to a
66:15 significant decrease in iPhone theft in
66:18 major cities This is one of those why didn't we do this before things It's
66:23 like you know Apple and the carriers are running around all worried about you
66:27 know us using the phone on the wrong carrier with absolutely no regard for
66:31 all these years for the wrong person using the phone on the right carrier And
66:37 so California mandated these kill switches and said they were going to
66:40 bring a bill into law something something It's not actually active yet
66:43 but Apple has proactively started
66:47 enabling this lockdown feature by default on iPhones And uh there's some
66:53 really interesting numbers to go along with this So the number of stolen iPhones dropped by 40% in San Francisco
66:59 and 25% in New York And smartphone theft
67:03 dropped by 50% in London in the 12 months after Apple added That's amazing
67:09 That's awesome because basically it turns a stolen iPhone even if you can
67:14 unlock it into like a glorified like
67:18 iPod touch So it's not worth not not a brick but
67:22 yeah no one's really going to want it So
67:26 so far Apple Samsung and Google have implemented kill switches on their
67:29 smartphones Microsoft is expected to release an operating system for its
67:32 Windows phones that has one this year Um but some of the smartphone systems
67:36 require consumers to opt in and uh blah
67:40 blah blah blah blah blah Attorney General called on all manufacturers to
67:43 make the technology active as a default position as Apple has done with the iPhones I mean I don't think anyone's
67:48 going to force you Um except as law requires in the area that you happen to
67:52 live I don't think anyone will force you to use the kill switch anytime soon but
67:55 having the uh having it on by default I think makes a ton of sense
68:00 That's cool Yeah I like that a lot Go Apple on that one Uh FCC now requires
68:06 American carriers to unlock consumers handsets Also posted by Victoria Secret
68:11 Are you posting these Okay cool I wasn't sure if you were keeping up I try not to
68:15 you know glance at your screen because then it looks like I'm you know looking at something else And I I did this and
68:19 everyone thought I was looking at your butt which is not possible when you're sitting on a couch But yeah
68:26 FCC now requires American carriers to unlock consumers handsets This is not
68:30 quite as awesome as it sounds initially So it's not like you can walk into your
68:36 local carrier store and you know go get
68:40 some other carrier to bail you out of your contract fees and then you can just
68:44 take your device over to the other carrier Um it has to be it has to be
68:48 fully paid off and blippity blippity blop and there's all this other stuff A
68:53 lot of when you pay off your thing is
68:56 fully paying off your phone though So I wonder how that would work because if
69:00 you got bailed out that is technically fully paying off your phone So this is
69:04 only after the phone has been paid off under contract or if the phone was
69:09 prepaid under contract Okay Yeah So once payment has been completed consumers can
69:14 do what they choose with their devices So this is actually the result of talks
69:17 between the FCC and CTIA the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association
69:22 which is represents major carriers AT&T Sprint T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless So
69:28 um I mean there's no guarantee that carriers aren't still going to be
69:31 butttheads and make you jump through hoops or whatever else but ultimately
69:34 they have to do it So you know other than making you talk to a retention
69:38 agent or whatever the case may be I suspect we mostly won't have to deal
69:42 with too much nonsense Yeah Well not we We're in Canada We get no such benefit
69:47 Yeah Not at all Americans Yeah Luckily America Yeah All
69:54 right The Verge Wow that is a big ad Yep
69:59 I am viewing at 70% right now Oh no I'm at 100% They've had bigger ones That is
70:05 That Ford one that you showed me was like Yep spectacular Pretty much the
70:09 entire screen Wow Yep That is a big ad
70:14 It's like how does the Verge afford their baller CES uh their baller CES
70:20 internet connection upload or whatever like that Yeah Elon Musk says Tesla will
70:26 unveil a new kind of battery to power your home Why would they call him the
70:31 eccentric CEO Oh come on Is he more
70:35 eccentric than well lots of other
70:39 innovative CEOs How many of those are there All right
70:43 fine Um so basically something something
70:48 Tesla didn't ship as nearly as many cars as they predicted Something something
70:51 Maybe they have more batteries than they know what to do with Not really sure what the background is here but the
70:55 company is working on a consumer battery pack for the home Production could begin
70:59 in 6 months and they're still deciding on a date for unveiling the new unit
71:04 This isn't exactly a new idea No The Toyota Marai which uses a hydrogen fuel
71:08 cell gives owners the option to remove the battery and use it to supply
71:12 electrical power to their homes It can power the average home for about a week
71:16 which is crazy Which is awesome What some cool things that Tesla's planning
71:20 to do is they're planning on making the battery wall mountable and having like
71:24 kind of cool design so it won't look really bad and it knowing them it'll be
71:29 tall if you're wall mounting it So if you not not flat on the ground it would
71:33 be tall but relatively skinny right So it could actually maybe work somewhere
71:38 right Uh which is kind of cool Very easily put it in the garage and have no
71:42 problems Or if you have a very like high-tech looking area have it there and
71:45 it'll probably be fine Um fairly plugandplay which is kind of awesome
71:51 Yeah this stuff is really cool I'm totally down with having like I'd love
71:55 to UPS my whole house That's essentially yeah what this would be and that would
71:58 be awesome Yeah Uh BMW developing new
72:02 plug-in hybrid named as i5/ i7 to
72:05 compete against Intel excuse me the Tesla Model S Uh the i7 should have like
72:10 four normal wheels like and then four like wheels beside them but they're not
72:16 like really the same
72:19 And go slightly faster Very slightly faster Just a little bit faster Not too
72:23 much faster Let's be really clear about not much faster Just a little bit And
72:28 four wheels help or something Uh so our
72:32 original article here is from caragazine.co.uk and it was posted by a
72:36 Ming Did you post that on Twitch already All right let's go ahead and fire this
72:40 baby up So looks like this is to take on
72:43 the Model S Um I guess that shouldn't be
72:48 too unexpected Yep Uh it'll be priced to
72:51 suit with target volumes in the tens of thousands and a cost spanning from just
72:55 below the Tesla to more than 125,000
72:59 I think it's cool the way electric cars can actually span an enormous price
73:03 range and still make sense Yeah because you can upgrade and downgrade them and
73:08 like the performance still makes sense for high for a higher price car but like
73:13 we still get that mostly that or at least some of that down there But then
73:16 you can kind of go yeah I don't need like the you know like fetus cow leather
73:22 double stitched interior whatever the hell Um all right let's go What What
73:28 else do we know about this I'm sure there's something Actually this I think this was added really late I didn't see
73:32 this in the dock until we started going Oh okay So 45 four and a half% of all
73:37 units sold in the pace setting US carb states must be zero emission vehicles by
73:42 2018 So yes expect to see more electric
73:46 models and for them to become more and more affordable The e-unit in front
73:50 delivers 204 brake horsepower and the
73:53 smaller battery powered motor in the back is good for 95 brake horsepower
73:56 sources say whoever they are Uh this brings the aggregate target output to
74:01 400 kW or 544 brake horsepower So right
74:06 in the middle of Tesla territory Allegedly capable of a a zero emission
74:10 range of 80 m this BMW is designed to operate in battery mode most of the time
74:14 The combustion engine will typically only cut in above 40 mph when road and
74:19 wind noise out decibel it anyway So it should be very silent to drive much like
74:24 other electric vehicles I think manufacturers who fail to comply
74:29 by not offering enough zero emission vehicles uh transitional zero emission
74:34 vehicles neighborhood electric vehicles or e vehicles with range extenders have
74:37 no choice but to acquire clean air credits from sources like Tesla
74:41 currently the major provider of such certificates And that makes German car
74:46 makers very sad Um all right I think
74:49 that's pretty much pretty much it Uh we've got we've got some more stuff
74:53 NVIDIA sends uh has sending out press invitations to a March 3rd event that I
74:57 actually can't make it to Um unfortunately their CEO Jensen says that
75:03 what they're showing off will redefine the future of gaming
75:10 We'll let that sink in for a minute We'll redefine Doesn't say anything
75:14 about a good definition but uh the picture shows a thin device It's
75:18 speculated to be another Android tablet I doubt it if it's going to redefine the
75:21 future of gaming it won't be uh an iterative release of something they've
75:25 already done There may be a tablet We might get a Tegra you know X1 tablet or
75:30 something or whatever the latest one is Can't remember Um we might get a Tegra
75:34 X1 tablet but it'll probably be something to do with cloud gaming to go
75:38 along with it That would be my guess Um grid I got a I got a Oh as long as it's
75:43 not embargoed got absolutely nothing until I find out um
75:49 something nothing I learned nothing and nothing happened Um so anyway close that
75:56 I'm sorry Close that Why is that even open Uh because I was reading it Uh so
76:02 anyway Konami PC game sales surpassed their
76:07 Xbox One sales They went from 2% to 10%
76:11 year-over-year and um has surpassed Xbox
76:14 One and all handhelds now going head-to-head with the Xbox 360 This was
76:18 posted by Oh the previous one was Abh 6547 and this one was Death Jester and
76:24 the original article here is from DS DSogaming.com
76:29 Skip this ad Haha no money for you
76:33 Um well I'm in a hurry I think they get
76:36 a little money for that No I'm pretty sure they still do I mean there's this ad No they get a little money for you
76:41 skipping And there's this ad Yeah I know Oh yeah They I think they get a little
76:44 bit on that and they get money for these ads They don't really expect Okay how about I click swing copters to make them
76:49 feel better I'm actually I'm legitimately interested in swing copters This looks excellent Okay Client
76:54 download required Optional software included How can optional software be
76:58 included Isn't that the definition of optional
77:03 It says optional software included Yeah Yeah What does that mean That means you
77:08 probably download this game and then it's like "Do you want to also install this?" Why would they even put that in a
77:14 banner That's very honest Yeah I've never seen anyone advertise that there's
77:18 optional software included All right I'm going to I'm going to do a full review
77:21 of Swing Copters coming up Channel Fun
77:24 Yeah Channel Super Fun review of Swingopters
77:28 Facebook rolls out a feature for users when they die This was posted by Fnot on
77:31 the forum Our Oh my god we should do real life swing copters with a drone
77:36 Yes absolutely
77:40 Um not sure exactly how this works but
77:44 gives users the option of having their account permanently deleted when they
77:47 die or if they wish they can appoint a friend or family member to take control
77:50 of some aspects of the account That's interesting An interesting note that was
77:55 added to the dock too is how do they confirm your death I don't know I don't
78:00 I don't understand why Facebook needs a
78:03 not gee I don't know just leave it
78:08 Uh what else we got here Vasa publishes embedded DisplayPort standard 1.4A
78:13 includes adaptive sync So this will be good for devices that need embedded
78:18 DisplayPort like say for example small stuff Um
78:22 greater data rates 8.1 Gbit per second per lane theoretical limit of 32.4 Gbit
78:28 per second We've got Ultra HD support at 120 Hz with 10 bit color because you
78:33 know DisplayPort just isn't content to
78:37 wreck HDMI a little bit at every turn
78:40 and everything else Uh WhatsApp Oh that
78:43 was uh posted by Querty Warrior and the original article here is from Tom's
78:47 Hardware This is all our rapidfire topics by the way That's why I'm rapid
78:51 firing Vasa publish Oh I already did this Well basically that's what that
78:56 website looks like You're welcome Um
78:59 next up what do we got The WhatsApp thing Yeah the WhatsApp thing WhatsApp
79:03 may not be as private as some people thought It's posted by I Hammy Very
79:08 unfortunate Super not surprising at all Thought anything that you posted to
79:12 anything Facebook owns or really anything on the internet was private
79:15 Yeah Um so it's what spy public is this
79:20 app that um that I think it's a guy Yeah
79:23 some guy made And here's this project I made this for you to realize how broken
79:28 the privacy options in WhatsApp are I mean this is something that anyone from
79:33 like the MSN Messenger days is probably
79:36 already familiar with Like you could see if someone blocked you just by entering
79:40 their username into into a website which by the way Microsoft patched and became
79:45 impossible Yet another way that MSN was
79:49 way ahead of its time and everything else that's come after it totally sucks
79:53 Balls Um MSN was great So anyway you can
79:56 see online and offline status profile pictures privacy settings and status
80:00 messages from anyone even if they have
80:04 the most secure private settings enabled in their account And so the point of
80:08 this was just hey we should probably
80:12 draw some attention to this Um feels a
80:15 little what what would this be Gray hat
80:18 Yeah I guess Speaking of hats um anonymous
80:23 attacks ISIS websites and social media accounts Uh this was posted online as
80:28 tech tips forum by Sauron and our original article here is from the
80:32 hackernews.com And I mean the thing about when
80:37 anonymous does anything is that that's
80:41 not necessarily that doesn't mean that everyone in anonymous is a united front
80:46 doing something It means someone saying they're anonymous because that's the
80:50 whole point is they're anonymous They declared what group within it was I I
80:54 don't remember where it says red something I think has launched a
80:58 something something something I don't know where it is but it's they
81:03 red cult anonymous group and red cult announced the operation opis and claimed
81:08 to have carried out cyber attacks against hundreds of Twitter and Facebook
81:11 accounts used by ISIS for its own propaganda and to recruit new members
81:16 According to the video it's coordinated by Muslims Christians Jews alike and a
81:22 masked individual discusses the aim of the campaign So uh they're releasing uh
81:28 lists of Twitter and Facebook accounts suspected to belong to Islamic militants
81:33 and Twitter has already suspended more than 1500 ISIS accounts since the group
81:37 released the first list in June 2014 And dozens of militant recruiting websites
81:42 were knocked offline using collective DOS attack I got to say it's nice to see
81:47 it's nice to see them doing something positive They do sometimes they do that
81:51 um sometimes anonymously So we don't know who's doing good who's doing bad
81:55 who's doing something in between Who knows But someone is doing something And
82:00 I think hopefully we can all agree that ISIS is a bunch of buttholes And um
82:06 anything we can do to make them not be
82:09 quite such buttholes is good Yes Taking
82:12 down communication lines of any sort is a very effective thing in these types of
82:17 situations Yep So it might not seem like much but it can be like a lot Oh web
82:22 activism is dumb Actually not necessarily Not being able to get your
82:26 message out there when your entire thing is that you're you are broadcasting this
82:31 message in hopes of you know finding like-minded vid individuals and
82:35 inspiring them to do unspeakable things Um actually that's super It's very
82:40 effective It's like it's like plant on rock effective It's super effective
82:46 I mean the only the only thing about anonymous is that they're they're not
82:50 employed They're not um like there's no
82:55 there's no long-term commitment to you know you know 2018 when ISIS is still
83:00 doing whatever it is they're doing There's no like there's no long-term action plan or anything like that But
83:04 it's good that they're doing something anything at all now Um I guess that's
83:09 pretty much it for the key stuff today This was a short show Yeah
83:15 Wow A short painful show Yeah For you Yeah I
83:21 had fun Not because it was painful for you That
83:25 was just a bonus
83:29 Oh man I do have an exciting announcement though Um I am going to be
83:34 doing the first garage sale in a very long time today Oh jeez It is going to
83:39 be as soon as I figure out how all the tools work The afterparty is going to be
83:44 straight up garage sale today because there is some stuff that needs to not be
83:50 here anymore and is here right now Um and I need it gone So that is why I am
