0:11 So, why is Lionus wearing a pair of headphones right now? How is this an
0:15 unboxing of a of a headset? Because these are clearly headphones. These are
0:19 old headphones. These are not even like new and interesting headphones. Because
0:24 I have something really cool to show you guys. This is the Oh, he says, "Good
0:29 luck, Lionus." Thanks, Jimmy. That's always a good sign when the manufacturer
0:33 says, "Good luck." No, I'm just kidding. I'm sure it's all good. Um, so this is
0:37 the Ant Leon Ant Lion Mod Mic.
0:41 www.mmodmike.com. Designed and assembled in Portland,
0:44 Oregon, which is actually pretty much uh neighbors from here. The instructions
0:48 are actually right on the outside of the tube. So, the packaging is pretty simple. It's a toilet paper roll that
0:53 has both of the ends bent. It's not quite a toilet paper roll. It's a little bit more rugged than that. Okay, I'm I'm
0:58 just I'm just teasing Jimmy here. Okay, we're going to get serious now. Find a
1:01 flat spot on the headphones to place the adhesive circle. The pad will stick to
1:04 smooth and mesh surfaces just like this one that you see right here. Okay, put
1:09 your headphones on. Make sure the Mod Mic will reach from the point of attachment to within 3 in behind the
1:13 corner of your mouth. Clean the surface with the provided alcohol swab. Let dry
1:17 and stick it. And then angle and location 30 seconds adhesive, whatever.
1:21 Okay, let's open this bad boy up. So this is the way to solve the problem
1:26 that I personally have had and that I think many people have had where by and
1:31 large the head the the the headphones
1:35 included on gaming headsets are not necessarily the best thing out there in
1:40 terms of a high audio quality gaming experience. Now, I switched from my um
1:47 from my HD555s that you see here to my Steel Series 7H's quite a while ago when
1:53 I basically just was like, "Okay, well, I'm tired of hanging a microphone around
1:57 my neck. I will accept that the 7H's might not be quite up to the same
2:01 standard as 555s uh for the convenience of having an integrated mic. Now, with
2:06 this guy right here, I no longer have to compromise. So, here we go. We've got
2:13 alcohol swabs, which you use to apply the mod mic. Apparently, there's uh
2:17 apparently you're going to have to like bend this thing pretty good. Put your headphones on. Bend the boom until the
2:21 mic sits behind the corner of your mouth. So, they do want you to bend it.
2:25 There's uh not much in terms of
2:28 Oh, okay. There you go. That's pretty flexible. Okay, that's not bad. That's uh that's not not actually what I was
2:33 what I was expecting there. All right. You've got Here we go. included magnetic
2:38 pieces here. So, you've got uh you can actually hook it up to two different
2:42 headphones. So, these have magnets and adhesive strips on the back. So, maybe
2:46 what we'll do is we'll actually go through the whole process here. I'll just mount the thing to my HD555s and
2:51 we'll call that an unboxing. So, consider this a mod mic installation
2:55 guide. Which side does the microphone usually go in? This side, right, left side. Yeah. Okay. So, here we go. So,
3:00 we're going to take our mesh spot here. We're going to use our alcohol swab.
3:03 This is really important because otherwise the adhesive stands a really good chance of not adhering correctly if
3:09 there's any kind of grease residue. Adhesives do not like that. So, we're
3:13 going to go ahead and do that. Then, we're going to take one of these two
3:16 spots. So, you can see the uh the magnetic piece clips onto there really
3:21 nice. So, we're going to take one of these two and we're going to mount it
3:25 kind of I mean, normally we'd try this before we actually go ahead and stick it
3:29 to it, but whatever. So, we're going to go with You know what? I'm going to at
3:34 least try to do this properly. Okay. So,
3:37 we're going to go with right about I'm going to test that spot. Make sure it
3:40 doesn't look stupid. Yep. So, we're going to go with that spot right there.
3:43 Press on it for a little bit here. In fact, they probably have instructions for how long they want you to press on
3:47 it. Uh, press it on for 30 seconds. So, we, you know, we'll finish pressing it
3:51 on after. Okay. Then, the next thing you do is you take the Mod Mic, which has,
3:56 see a little cable managed wire here. So, you can Okay, you know what? I'll
4:00 show you that part later. So then you take the mod mic and you put it into
4:05 this piece right here. So this unscrews. There we go. And then can go in either
4:10 this way or
4:13 Oh yeah, that goes in pretty tight right there. Okay. So it goes in just like
4:17 that. Sits in there pretty good. Then you
4:21 screw this on. Okay. That holds it into place. And
4:28 voila. Hopefully this works because like I said, I haven't tested it at all. So,
4:32 you just make it so that this sits right by the corner of your mouth here. You
4:36 can adjust that the way that you want. And oh, I don't think I got the angle
4:39 quite right, but we can compensate for that. And there you go. So, it has a
4:44 little What' I do? Oh, it's magnets, right? So,
4:48 it's basically magic. Uh, so there we go. So, then what you do is you take the
4:51 little included cable organizer doodad here. You clip that to your existing
4:55 headphone cable. If I had to criticize something about the product so far, I'd
4:59 say that it's a little bit small, the clip for the other cable, but what I'll
5:02 what I would probably end up doing is attaching them in a more permanent fashion, even using a piece of braided
5:07 sle and covering the entirety of both of the wires together so that it's uh
5:12 pretty much one cord. Because the mod mic is interesting from a, you know, oh,
5:16 I can detach it from my headphones perspective, but as a gamer, I think
5:21 most people are going to be using it as more like a way to attach a high quality
5:24 mic to a pair of headphones pretty much semi-permanently. So, the way that these
5:29 connect is actually by a screw-in connector. So, I have pretty good
5:32 confidence in the ruggedness of that connection right there. And I think
5:38 that's pretty much it. So, I'm really excited to actually try this out, guys.
5:42 I wish I had taken a little bit more time to get the angle right because the
5:46 angle that it comes out here is dependent on the way that these Oh,
5:52 that's smart. Look at that.
5:55 Oh, so you can either detach it completely or you can actually put it up
5:59 like that just by using magnets. See, magnets are basically magic. It's
6:03 amazing. Now I'm like I've lost completely lost
6:06 my train of thought. I just want to get this I want to get this about right before we wrap up here. And I'm having a
6:12 little bit of trouble doing that. Once you get it in place, I don't think it's
6:15 going to move because it's actually quite stiff. So, thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look at the
6:20 Antlian Mod Mic. Don't forget to subscribe to Lance Tech for more
6:23 unboxings, reviews, and other computer videos. And I'm really glad they include two because my original perception that
6:29 it's so that you can have two different headphones you can use it with might have been wrong. Maybe it's so that you
6:33 can have a a doover on the uh the setup
6:36 process there. Thanks, guys.
