0:00 Uh, hey, got it. Okay, good. And we are now
0:05 live. We We're late, but we're 8 minutes late.
0:11 Yeah, it's not it's not Yeah, for us that's really not bad. Like 8 minutes is
0:16 pretty damn bad, but like Yeah, for our track record, I feel like that's not the
0:20 worst thing. It's like going one mile over the speed limit. It's like, who
0:23 cares? Yeah. compared to last week where we went 50 over the speed limit and had
0:28 our car impounded because we were like we were so late that people got the time
0:33 zone wrong and thought that we were a little bit early cuz we were like 58
0:37 minutes late so people thought we might have been 2 minutes early. How does that even happen? It's just when when time
0:43 zones start coming into play. Yeah. So good. Anyways, this week we have lots of
0:47 topics most of which are AMD based. There is so much AMD news, which is
0:52 great because their stock needs to come up. Um, so hopefully that goes well, but
0:56 we'll get into that in a moment. Other than that, we also have a 200 Hz
0:59 ultrawide monitor. And North Korea has started manufacturing their own iPad.
1:04 What does that look like? I don't know. Let's find out. And we're going to start
1:08 the intro using the Stream Deck. So
1:11 hopefully this works. I just tried it like a million times and it did. So we'll see.
1:18 That was awkward. Oh no. But it's fancy, but it doesn't
1:23 work. Why? It worked before. It It
1:27 worked fine. Like literally, literally just when we weren't live, it worked
1:30 completely. Okay, Taran. It broke. Well, I don't know what
1:36 to tell you. Hang on. Say hi to Taran, everybody. Hi. Trying to get this here.
1:41 Just close. Give Give us a second. Close the thing. Oh god, it's gone.
1:46 So, this this is the stream deck as you guys. It's very fancy. What did that do
1:52 it? Well, we can't see now cuz No. Well,
1:56 just click on it. Okay. It worked when we weren't live. Just click on it.
2:00 Oh, good gracious. That kind of sums things up right now. Is that like So,
2:05 there's no exploit integration right now. That's the issue. They have OBS,
2:09 but they don't have exploits. What? So, I told them that that's important and
2:14 like it is. We don't need Windows anything other than 10 nor or XSplit.
2:19 Screw it. Anyways, iFixit. You can screw things with their screwdrivers. That
2:22 would be fantastic. Thank you, iFixit. Also, LTX Tech Carnival 2017. If you
2:28 want to go to that, get some tickets. Meet me there. And Squarespace. Thank
2:32 you very much to Squarespace. Going to shove this back to the top. And then I'm
2:35 going to try to use the Stream Deck. Nope. Going to click on it. That worked
2:39 better. Sometimes an easier solution is better. Not always, but sometimes. I
2:43 feel bad because I was kind of attacking Elgato on Twitter because their stream
2:48 deck only works with Windows 10 and I don't like Windows 10, but I like the
2:52 Stream Deck and like I have one now
2:55 because Catboy boiler bought one for me which was like amazing. Well, but I I
3:00 can't use it cuz I use Windows 10. Aren't you currently using the version
3:03 of Windows that has the current least market penetration except for maybe
3:07 Vista? Probably close to that. Okay. Okay. But
3:12 like supporting the last two is a fairly general thing. I think that's fair. You
3:17 think but okay. Anyways, I still think it's a super cool product for a pretty
3:21 niche crowd, but still a super cool product. So, I'm I'm actually not trying
3:25 to roast them by having it not work right now. There's something going wrong
3:29 because it was totally working flawlessly when we were offline and I
3:34 will completely admit to that. So, that's how it always happens. It works
3:37 perfectly when no one's looking. Taran is the one that's trying to do the
3:40 review on this thing. So, if you guys are interested in the stream deck um and
3:44 have any specific questions about it or anything like that, hit Taran up on on
3:47 Twitter. I don't Do you know what his handle is? I don't know handles off.
3:51 TaranVH. That Yeah, that sounds right. So, TaranVH on Twitter. If you have any
3:56 specific questions about the Stream Deck, he will vet those, see if they're
3:59 important enough, and maybe include them in his review. But to start the show,
4:04 we've got AMD news, not Stream Deck news. Um, the first of the main AMD news
4:10 topics is AMD announces new Thread
4:14 Ripper details. And these are pretty freaking juicy. You want to start firing
4:17 through them? I'll get this on screen. Yeah. So, Threadripper is conf
4:20 confirmed to be half of an Epic processor. That's EPYC. And I had when I
4:25 first read this, I had this slide Gary Johnson moment uh where I didn't I
4:30 thought it was an acronym, but it's not. It's just Epic spelled with a Y because
4:33 it's supposed to be their super high-end thing. So, um, we're looking at 16 cores
4:37 and 32 threads on the top end, uh, made
4:40 of two processor dies. So, that's pretty interesting. Um, all products feature 64
4:46 lanes of PCI Express with 60 of those, uh, coming off of the chipset. Uh, for
4:51 reference, uh, the top end of the new Intel i9's on the other side are 44. So,
4:55 you're getting quite a bit more with this. um all products featuring DDR4
4:59 quad channel RAM pre standard 16 megs of
5:02 level three cache uh an X399 chipset and
5:07 which is so annoying. Yeah, cuz I saw this I had yet another moment like that
5:12 where I saw X399. I'm just like is Intel releasing like two families of chipsets
5:17 back to back because of 299 but they're not. This is an This is an AMD thing.
5:21 Like, so yeah, I I wonder if they're just trying to zet Sintel with the
5:25 naming a little bit there. Ours is 100 better and and Yeah. And like And you're
5:29 not going to want to name your next platform this one cuz we already had it
5:32 and blah blah. Yeah, exactly. The naming
5:36 schemes for the last like few years just I can't even get over it. And I know you
5:40 guys are probably even like tired of hearing it at this point because I feel
5:43 like every single video that a product has a stupid name. uh like the like the
5:47 Surface Pro instead of being the Surface Pro 5 or almost uh any Razer laptop at
5:54 this point. Like it's just it's so frustrating that all the reviewers freak
5:57 out about it. I don't know how interesting it is for the viewers, but
6:00 like uh just I don't know. At some point
6:04 I'm just expecting someone to get sick of it like a new company start model
6:08 names company name company product name one and just start one two three four.
6:13 Yeah, exactly. Yeah, perfect. Skew one product one done. Why not? We've made
6:18 500 products. What is this product's name? 500. It's It's like Intel's first
6:22 ever processors was what the 404. What
6:25 happened to one through 403? Like Like I
6:28 know there was a reason behind it, but still, you know, anyway. But, okay, so
6:34 there's a new there's a rumor about the Threadripper, and that rumor is that
6:37 the Threadripper might be under $1,000,
6:42 which due to the, you know, more recent
6:45 news from the Intel camp is a little bit cheaper. The 16 core version of the Core
6:52 i9, which is not the top end. The top end is 18 cores and cost two grand. the
6:57 16 core. I don't know the pricing off the top of my head, but you have to think it's at least a $1,500 part, you
7:02 know? So, this is going to this is going to be quite a bit cheaper. Yeah. And
7:05 like this isn't this is a like a random
7:08 tweet leak kind of deal thing, if it even is a leak. This is is a little
7:13 loose, but yeah, I don't know. A49 is insanely
7:18 cheap for what you're getting. And the thing is that that sounds like a move AMD would try to pull. So, I'm not even
7:23 like way too it doesn't seem unrealistic.
7:26 This seems like something they would do. I mean, there's also the whole IPC
7:30 argument and what single threaded like. Yeah, there's more to it for sure. But,
7:34 you know, at the same time, Ryzen's been mostly good as far as single threaded so
7:38 far. So, you have to think, okay, then then we've got even I'm just going to
7:42 try to power through some AMD news here. Hopefully, everyone wants to hear about
7:46 AMD stuff. I do. It's kind of what's interesting right now. Um, so AMD trims
7:53 prices of the Ryzen 7700
7:56 and the Ryzen 1700X.
8:00 Uh, so I showed that to you guys on stream. The current price of the 1700 is
8:06 $319. That's going down by 10 or sorry,
8:10 the current price is $329. That's going down by 10 to 319. Not a major
8:14 difference, but the 3 uh 17 hundred X, which was 399, is going down by 50 bucks
8:21 to $3.49. And the eight hundred X has a
8:24 little bit of a smaller change. It's going from $499 to $469 with a savings
8:28 of $30. That that 1700X discount is
8:31 pretty sick, actually. It's pretty substantial. It's just like booking a
8:34 hotel at Disney World. The more expensive thing gets the bigger discount when it goes on sale. And that's kind of
8:38 what's happening here. Well, not entirely. Not entirely, but the most
8:42 expensive You're not going to you're not going to um save as much on the very low
8:45 end, though. But that's, you know, I I think, you know, $50, you know, get
8:50 yourself get yourself a AAA title, get yourself a few 12-packs of Mountain Dew,
8:54 get yourself whatever else you're into. Yeah. Fill the mini fridge. There you
8:57 go. There you go. Uh but yeah, I know. I think that's pretty cool. My nightstand
9:01 with a mini fridge. I'm thirsty middle of the night. Just reach over. But my
9:05 fridge is all the way downstairs now. It's like, get some nucaca. Yeah,
9:08 perfect. Um Yeah. But like I I think that's pretty substantial. 400 to 350.
9:13 There's that like golden number that's like around. It was 300 for a long time,
9:18 but then I think there's been some inflation and now it might be like 350,
9:21 right? Um, but for a long time, like consoles were right around 300. Like a
9:26 lot of like nicer things that you could get for like your house, like different tabletop things and whatnot. Tried to
9:30 aim at like 300 cuz it was a digestible
9:34 but relatively expensive item that you could buy. But like a digestible, like
9:38 you could save up for this over a little bit and get it and it would probably be fine. Yes, that that's the trick in this
9:42 industry, right? You you want to price things high but not too high. And
9:46 there's there's always a spot to hit there. So, so I think that might help them actually getting to that 350
9:50 number. That's pretty cool. And on top of that, AMD Vega release dates. This is
9:57 cool. The Vega Frontier Edition card will be available on June 27th. Can we
10:02 bring up a picture of that cuz it looks pretty ball. Hopefully they've got it in
10:05 here because it Yeah, that's pretty cool. Mhm. the I like it.
10:11 You might not be able to tell from the screen cap there, but the that little yellow thing on the upper right is it's
10:16 actually a um it's a cube. It lights up.
10:19 It's illuminated. The R, of course, for radon. So, um and it also comes in a
10:24 kind of a reverse color scheme. I think they have a gold one with like a blue cube on it, too. So, stupid clickbait
10:28 stuff. Come on, Anantech.
10:32 I've always hated like not not to rag on an Nantech while we're here, but I've
10:35 always hated when there's article clickbait ads on a site that is based
10:40 around articles cuz like it makes you think that like
10:44 reverse hair loss with this brilliantly simple home remedy. An Nantech is now
10:48 talking about like uh this secret that
10:52 will cure your diabetes and this ear
10:57 tonitis ending trick thing and like weird other stuff. #fake news. Except it
11:02 literally is. Yeah. But yeah. Yeah. But
11:05 yeah, that's a pretty sick looking card. I'm also stoked that it's coming soon
11:09 because I feel like Vega has been this like cherry that's been dangled in front
11:13 of everyone for so freaking long. And it's been actually really annoying
11:17 because people have been asking me forever on my stream, on this stream, on
11:21 all the comments, on all the videos, on the forums, everywhere like, "Oh, should
11:25 I buy this card or should I wait for Vega?" And it's been like, "I have no
11:29 idea." Yeah, because I don't know when Vega is coming. Information's been a
11:32 little bit hard to come by. I actually wonder if they're going to have that sick looking shroud for the consumer
11:37 line because the Frontier edition is is is more of a professionals card, you
11:41 know, so it's not really for gaming. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds like the Founders
11:47 Edition there. There's a lot of originality
11:50 going on over there right now. X399, the Founders Edition. Now they need to
11:54 combine the two. The X399 Founders Edition. Oh, good. Or sorry, Frontier.
11:58 Frontier edition. Frontier Edition. I'll I'll get it right. Sorry about that.
12:02 Frontier edition. Come on, guys. Anyways, that's actually super cool. I'm
12:06 really stoked on that release date. And I'm assuming that mean cuz like as far
12:10 as I know, we don't have one yet. So, I'm assuming that means that we're
12:14 getting one fairly soon and we'll be able to like screw around with it, which
12:17 will be cool. Um, I look forward to it.
12:22 Yeah. The the Frontier edition of AMD's is is AMD's first batch of Vega based
12:26 cards marketed towards early adopters. Completely unlike the founders edition.
12:33 Yeah. Okay. A price has not been announced. Um
12:39 so that sort of sucks. It's going to I mean if it's a prolevel card, it's going
12:43 to be it's going to be like quadrole probably. So it's going to be pretty
12:46 high. It will Yeah, it will be many. Expecting it's not going to be cheap.
12:51 Um, some Intel news. Finally, Intel
12:54 getting on the board. So much AMD news. Intel announces Skylake X bringing 18
13:00 core HCC silicon to consumers for
13:03 $2,000. They've also simultaneously announced
13:07 KBLEX, which is very confusing. Yes. So,
13:11 so Skylake X is like the super high-end
13:14 and then KB Lake X at least for now is going to be I think mainly four core
13:20 8thread i7s, right? Which going through puberty there
13:25 apparently. Yeah. But uh that was wild.
13:28 So, so, so we're not used to seeing four core 8thread SKs being considered an
13:34 enthusiast product, but apparently now at least some of them are. So, that's
13:38 happening as well. Yeah, I it's it's very speaking of
13:42 confusing naming schemes, but yeah, top end i9 um 18 cores, 36 threads, uh
13:49 $2,000. It's cool. But I think this is going to
13:52 be an interesting fight. And I think at least um as far as our our viewers are
13:57 concerned, AMD is probably going to win this fight because just the value
14:03 proposition of those dollar amounts is pretty intense. I feel bad for anyone
14:08 who bought a 6T950X with it with its puny 10 cores because they're selling a
14:14 10 they're selling a 10 core i9 as the
14:19 lowest end i9. They have score excuse
14:22 going from 10 to 18 cores. So if you
14:26 spent that much money on a 6950X, I feel bad for you, son.
14:30 I I got 18 problems. I guess I got Yeah,
14:35 but only having 10 isn't one of them. I failed that pretty hard. Let's revisit
14:39 this joke later. I feel like this is one that's worth like processing in the
14:42 background for a few minutes. Yeah. Okay, cool. Uh, speaking about
14:46 processing in the background possibly not happening anymore. Elon Musk to
14:50 Trump, you quit Paris, so I quit you.
14:53 Um, this is some political jargon, so we're probably not going to spend too
14:56 much time on this. Um, but Elon Musk and
15:00 Disney boss, didn't know about that part, quit Trump's business panel over
15:05 the Paris pollute. Basically what happened, uh, there was this thing
15:08 called the Paris Accord. It was agreed to last year. It was a ton of countries
15:11 came together saying, "Hey, let's do something about global warming." Then
15:15 Trump got elected and he said, "No, I I ain't about that." He He's going to try
15:19 to pull the US out of it and Elon Musk is not very happy about it. So Elon is
15:24 no longer sitting on I think President Trump had like some sort of technology
15:28 council advisory group thing. Um Elon's
15:32 not too happy with the Paris decision, so he's pulling out. And that's pretty
15:35 much that. Yeah. So Elon's tweet said, "Am departing presidential councils.
15:41 Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is
15:44 not good for America or the world." And
15:48 there you go. Although in counter news, because I'm trying to explain the whole
15:53 playing field, I believe there was like a surge in the stock market or
15:56 something. I have no idea. Stock market did well or something. If you're
16:01 interested in that, go check it out somewhere else. We're not very good at covering political topics. That's not
16:05 our mo. Correlation is not causation. Or is it? Decide for yourself. Also, it
16:10 should be noted, however you feel about this issue, the Paris Accord actually,
16:14 to my knowledge, it doesn't mandate that the signatorries actually do anything.
16:19 So, it's not like, oh, you must reduce carbon emissions by X percentage by year
16:24 or there will be consequences. It I don't think it does anything like that.
16:28 Um, but uh there which whichever way you
16:31 feel about this, uh there you go. So, this is another like uh kind of
16:35 political topic kind of deal where we're
16:39 probably not going to dive into it too far, but you guys might be interested. So, we're at least going to give you
16:42 like the kernel so that if you are interested in it, you can go try to find
16:46 the whole popped corn. I don't know where I was going with that, but the
16:49 whole piece of popcorn. Yeah, there we go. Well, one is a precursor, the
16:53 others. Yeah, I guess I guess that works. Yeah. Okay. I don't know. Um, so
16:57 this is US approved social media background checks for visa applicants.
17:01 The so the reason why we thought this might be interesting to you guys is social media I guess tech things social
17:06 media stuff I don't know if you're this is definitely tech is it I mean like
17:11 it's social media sure but I mean how like like do you call someone who's on
17:15 Twitter a lot a techie go on our forums go on ours technica go on any of the
17:21 major sites that cover tech news there's always about either privacy or net
17:26 neutrality which affects social media and is is discussed as a tech topic So,
17:31 I think it's completely appropriate. Yeah, I've always just thought it's been
17:35 a little weird, but I do agree with saying it at all. There's a
17:38 questionnaire which we can check out here in a second um because it was
17:43 linked by the glorious person who made this doc. So, here we go.
17:48 Here's the Wow. Okay. Um, yeah, we're
17:52 not going to look that closely at that. Social media identifier, nameandle,
17:56 social media platforms. So, you can see that right there.
18:01 So I guess you'd have to declare I wonder how like what is defined by
18:05 social media. Please provide your unique username for any websites or
18:08 applications you have used to create or share content, photos, videos, status
18:14 updates, etc. as part of a public profile within the last 5 years. So like
18:19 what qualifies? If someone is not from the states and they use Linus
18:23 techtips.com, I think they would have to declare their
18:26 username and the site.
18:30 Let's just get right down to brass tax. Well, if you have a Pornhub account, you're leaving comments on that. Does
18:33 that I mean seriously, does that like I think it would if you want to embarrass
18:37 yourself to that like point like because that is in a for it says status updates
18:42 which is just text and then etc.
18:46 There's also the thing where I think I also wonder how they would find out like
18:50 let's say you just put let's let's say you just put Twitter. All I use is
18:54 Twitter. I have a public Twitter handle. You put that down. You you declare it.
18:59 If you had five other things, would they necessarily know we're finding? Maybe
19:03 they're going to like cross search your handle. They could potentially do that.
19:07 Boy 52 and find you on Pornhub as well.
19:10 I don't know if you're maybe if you're a known person of interest to Customs and
19:14 Border Protection and you only declare one handle and be like, "Oh yeah, we
19:18 need to like look at this guy." So there's this huge like veil of secrecy
19:23 around it, you know? Um cuz you don't know exactly what that information.
19:27 Yeah. And it's really vague to the point where like I feel like if you signed up
19:31 for some random site 4.45
19:35 years ago and completely forgot about it and tons of people have Yeah. accounts
19:40 just around the internet they've forgotten about because they don't need, oh, I want to access an article when I
19:45 have to sign up for a stupid free account. I'm never going to use it again. But, um, it does say though that,
19:50 uh, this isn't like an auto request. It
19:53 says that additional information would only be requested when the department determines that quote unquote such
19:58 information is required to confirm identity or conduct more rigorous
20:01 national security vetting. So, this sounds like they're going to ask you if
20:05 you're already like flagged, if you're already some kind of person of interest
20:09 to them. It also says, "If you're unsure of the answer to a question, please
20:13 provide a response to the best of your knowledge." Mhm. So, I don't feel like
20:17 you're going to get crushed too long. The vast majority of dealings with the
20:20 federal government is you're not going to get in ridiculous trouble as long as
20:25 you're trying to tell the truth. Like, that's kind of how the IRS operates, you
20:28 know? They they they don't they don't typically come after people for honest mistakes. They really go at you if
20:32 you're if they think you're like intentionally intentionally like lying or defrauding them. So don't forget
20:37 linesttips.com. If you're trying to get a visa in the
20:40 US, make sure you list that as a social media platform. I want as many US
20:45 officials searching my site for people's usernames as possible
20:50 just cuz it sounds fun. Okay. So if we get guys in like dark
20:55 dark suits showing up Yeah. one day at the door and sunglasses. Awesome. Yeah.
20:59 Yeah. Super cool. I'm excited.
21:04 What What's the chat saying about this? I kind of want to know. I have no idea.
21:09 Probably nothing good. We'll do. Yes.
21:13 Thank you very much, Roy. I appreciate I appreciate your uh your willingness to
21:18 do so. Yeah, at least I'm a US citizen. Yeah, I feel the same way.
21:23 I was I was actually crossing the border the other day. I was I was driving down
21:27 um to Bellingham and I got a pretty gruff gruff border officer. I gave him
21:31 my passport. He he saw it was from the US. His whole tone completely changed.
21:37 Oh, welcome back. He just he started he was just started becoming super chill
21:41 with me cuz cuz I have BC license plate. So he must have thought I was Canadian,
21:44 but he saw that and it just it was so funny. But another person come over the
21:49 border and pick up a darn package.
21:52 So many of them. Oh lord. Okay. My favorite question is,
21:57 "Uh, what are you coming over for? I'm just picking up a package." Uh, sir,
22:01 it's it's 3:00 a.m. Why are you picking up a package? I don't sleep, man. Well,
22:06 yeah. You you you know what I would say if I were you, and this would also not
22:10 be lying. Um, is that the border weights are much less. Yeah, there's a few I've
22:15 had to get into it a little bit more a couple times, but that's that's a big
22:18 one. There's I can just roll up and there's usually only nobody or one or
22:22 two people in front of me, which is Greater Vancouver has two major highway
22:27 uh border crossings and they're both usually extremely busy so you can wait
22:31 quite a while. Yeah. Next up is North Korea's iPad. Oh boy. Which is just I
22:37 Oh, wait. I air quotes iPad. Yeah. Yeah.
22:41 So, a North Korean company named Wow. Uh Moyang Moyang. Sure. Uh,
22:48 Mioyong it released a new tablet and
22:51 they called it the iPad. So that is not
22:54 Yeah. Okay, good. It's It says in the corner of this photo, actual iPad
22:58 designed by Apple in California. I like how designed by Apple in California.
23:02 Made it all the way to that subtext. Goodness. Okay. I Okay, I think the
23:06 reason why I made it there was cuz he's trying to be like making a joke like not
23:11 designed by some random obviously a joke like it's it's not made by Kim Jong-un
23:15 and Pyongyang. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
23:19 Apple hasn't commented on this development um its use of its most
23:24 popular trademarks. And while the company undoubtedly isn't pleased with
23:28 it, it's unclear what kind of legal action it could take against a company
23:32 that's controlled by the North Korean government. I guarantee you they don't
23:36 care. Their lawyers don't care. Um I don't think there's really any
23:40 significant market in North Korea for Western consumer goods. At at the same
23:44 time, you know, I don't think there is a market in North Korea. Yeah. There's not going to be this isn't going to be
23:48 shipped out of North Korea. It's probably going to be one of those dealies like with the radios and TVs
23:52 over there. Oh, it's set to like three channels that only broadcast government
23:57 approved like content and propaganda. This is probably going to be the same
24:00 thing where they have it running through like a firewall just for North Korea.
24:04 Yeah. So, Apple's not going to care. It doesn't matter. So, it it can This is
24:11 fantastic. It has a 1 GHz CPU, 512 megabytes of RAM, 8 gigs of internal
24:16 storage, 16 gigs of external storage, an 8 in display, and it promises 6 hours of
24:21 battery life. Honestly, that is not quite as bad as I expected. The next
24:25 part, though, is rather fantastic. It's currently unknown what kind of apps the
24:29 device will be able to run in a region like North Korea, which is not
24:32 surprising. But it has a total of 28 websites that it can access.
24:38 That's a pretty good number of websites. It's probably 8 GB is also that's a lot
24:44 of compressed JPEG. I think Lionus owns more than 28 domains just cuz he like
24:49 likes buying domains. Yeah. So So how many images of the deer leader is that?
24:53 8 gigabytes. And how much how much does how much would like you know there has
24:57 to be a minimum quota like you you have to have a certain percentage of your
25:01 storage on your tablet filled with various angles and various images of the
25:06 of the leader. Yes. Oh yeah. And like and like the the the the
25:10 The uh the game is probably something like it's like Space Invaders except it
25:15 was like you know Kim Jong-un like a little fighter fighting the capitalist
25:18 or something like that. It's probably something like that. So shooting American flags in an asteroid simulator.
25:24 Bastards. Yeah. But so so yeah, that's happening. Uh that's pretty epic. Can
25:29 Apple even do anything to stop this? I seriously doubt it unless Apple decides
25:33 to get an army, which at this point they could probably do. They probably could.
25:37 But I mean I mean again like if If
25:40 you're going to say, "Okay, will this violate some sort of like intellectual
25:44 property statute with North or not statute, but agreement that North Korea
25:47 is probably not even a signatory to they still have to enforce their laws inside
25:52 their own borders. It's kind of like, you know, Team America World Police where Hans Blicks comes in. Yeah. Or
25:57 what? Or we'll write you a letter saying how angry we are with you. So, yeah,
26:01 probably nothing's going to happen. And some folks in North Korea will be
26:04 getting their um commie pads. So, yeah, there you have it. After that, we've got
26:08 ASUS with an announcement of a 35 in ROG
26:12 Swift PG35VQ display with quantum dots and a 200 Hz
26:17 refresh rate. My question
26:20 is, I'm actually getting a little bit disturbed by this. ASUS, where the heck
26:26 is the 4K um HDR
26:30 G-Sync beautiful Swift that they announced at CES that I saw in person
26:35 working, you know? Why can't I buy one?
26:38 I tweeted them and they just liked it. They didn't say anything. Oh, the long
26:43 troll. Okay. Well, you know, you know better than to see a prototype at a
26:49 trade show and then be like, "Oh, where can I buy this?
26:53 It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Maybe it only worked for
26:57 the length of the show and it like died 5 seconds after it left. You don't know
27:00 that. So, funny funny story about the seeing the prototype thing. U in 2012,
27:05 just before Christmas in 2012, I decided
27:09 uh that I was This was remember 2012. This is early Kickstarter. This is when
27:13 people still like believe that things might happen. I saw a hammer on there.
27:18 It was super cool. It's called the coalar hammer. Let me see if I can find
27:21 this. Is this like the two-handed great sword?
27:26 The cobbar. Here it is. Cobbar hammer by Lance Brandon. Let's see. Was I right?
27:31 Was it 2012? This thing does look pretty cool. Um, yeah, hit updates. So, yeah,
27:34 expected delivery of June 2013
27:38 and my gift to him was the backing of the project. Um,
27:44 project launched April 25th, 2013. Okay.
27:48 So, it was a 2013. It's been a long time, but it's been a while. Um, so I I
27:52 backed the cobbar hammer. I decided to back this thing from my dad. It's super
27:57 cool in theory. It usually I'm not into
28:00 like multi-tool stuff, but this one actually looks pretty sweet. Um, you can
28:04 see like a lot of people covered it. You can turn it into a crowbar instead of
28:08 just being a hammer. It's it's a socket wrench. Like it's a whole bunch of
28:13 different things. And it's it's their destruction tools. You can take them
28:16 apart completely. It's that is amazing. Like it's pretty cool, right? It's still
28:21 not out. But the best part about this, because most Kickstarter projects, if
28:26 it's been like four years, they would
28:29 have just given up, right? Cobbar has not given up at this point. If you go to
28:34 their updates tab, which I check every once in a blue moon just out of
28:39 interest. Fifth month, 10day, 17th year.
28:42 They are still giving updates for backers only, so I can't see it cuz I'm
28:46 not logged in, but dang. It's basically a modular hammer. Why is it taking so
28:50 long? Like, does it does does it have Bluetooth or something? Like, what what
28:54 like why is it? And yeah, that's the other part. Okay, so the whole reason
28:57 why I got to this story is in their demonstration videos, they have one and
29:02 then like the guy like jams it in a little thing and hangs off of it and
29:06 like they they do tons of tests with it. So, I'm like, "Okay, you know what? I'll
29:09 back this because they physically have the product and I can clearly see that
29:14 it is working." Maybe it was a very very very well done hologram.
29:18 Oh, man. At this point, I have to wonder if it's been 4 years. That thing crushed
29:22 my soul. That destroyed any possibility of me being into Kickstarter. That like
29:27 fueled the Kickstarter Kickarted series. Well, it's funny cuz it's a literal
29:32 hammer. So, it smashed your faith. It smashed my faith. Yes. Kickstarter.
29:36 There you go. Just buy a hammer and a multi-tool. I know. Well, I was trying
29:40 to like my dad is totally um of the
29:43 persuasion and I agree with this to be completely honest of just buy the damn
29:48 tool, use it till it breaks, and then buy another one. And like toss them
29:51 around, do whatever. The the job is what's important, but try to not buy one
29:55 that's like too crap. But like he's not super into like, oh, this is such a
29:59 amazing tool. Whoa. He just like wants something that he can do the job with.
30:03 Yeah. Like so I was going to try to buy him something that was above the tier
30:07 that he normally shops at so he can have like so he doesn't have to be the one
30:10 that buys it so he doesn't feel bad about spending too much money on something. Mhm. But it's also not like
30:16 god tier. Yeah. It's just kind of a cool nifty thing. And then nope. Never got
30:20 it. Completely failed. So when chat said
30:23 I hate sand. Yeah. It's coarse and it gets everywhere. Just
30:29 the story. It's funny every time. It is. It absolutely is. Uh, speaking of funny
30:34 every time, every single time it's funny. We're going to go to looking at
30:39 Channel Super Fun on Floatplane. Uh, so
30:43 here we go. This is a Floatplane club. Where's Channel Super Fun? Meanest
30:47 YouTube comments. This was actually genuinely hilarious. I had a great time
30:50 with this one. So, everyone that you can see in the thumbnail right now, including the the one and only Nikki V
30:55 and John who's sitting right beside me, read through comments. That's what
30:59 you're doing every day. You're living it. various platforms and discuss how
31:04 mean they may or may not be. You know, it's a great video, but Colton could
31:09 have picked far meaner things. There's some pretty intense things. Some of them
31:13 are brutal. Dennis has some pretty brutal ones. Th this one on screen, how
31:17 to be Dennis, be terrible at everything, cheat, and then lie about cheating. That
31:20 honestly sounds a little bit more like Lionus with Lionus. Lionus is like the
31:24 perpetual. If you watch Kenny versus Spenny, Lionus on Channel Super Fun is
31:29 Kenny. I can't remember a Channel Super Fun where he did not cheat in some way
31:33 or attempt to cheat. Yeah, I think the last the batting scrapyard wars, am I
31:37 right? There you go. Yeah, the batting
31:41 cages wasn't a competition cuz we were just literally hitting balls, but other
31:44 than that, yeah, every time. So, you can see it scrubs pretty quick, which is
31:49 cool. You can watch this video now if you're interested, which is cool. And
31:52 you can even download to watch it later. You can, which is awesomely fantastic.
31:57 Scrapyard Wars. If you guys have been enjoying that, the last episode of
32:01 Scrapyard Wars will be on Floatplane this weekend. They've been on Flowplane
32:05 every Saturday so far, but the main editor for them, Edel, got pretty
32:10 freaking sick, actually. Um, so the next one is going to be slightly delayed. It
32:14 will be coming out on Sunday instead of on Saturday, but it is still coming on
32:18 Floatplane first. So, you can see the actually insane, probably the most
32:23 insane conclusion of any Scraphead Wars we've had. The last season of Scrappy
32:27 War season 4 was my favorite one. But in
32:30 terms of conclusions, this last conclusion is insane and by
32:36 far the most nutty freaking balls conclusion we've ever had. Like no
32:40 question about it at all. You don't know, do you? I've only watched through
32:44 the first episode. I have not had time to watch. I I fully intend to watch the
32:47 rest of them. I'm not just saying that. But, uh, everyone that was a part of it
32:50 has been trying to stay rather closed about it around the office cuz a lot of
32:55 people around the office if I don't have any much going on this weekend, I might just sit down and like binge like the
32:59 last couple of them. Yeah. So, yeah, I
33:02 think this week, not not to uh bash on my own platform, but I think this week a
33:06 fair amount of the things that were released were from Computex, so they're on both platforms. Um, but we do have a
33:12 few different things that that meish YouTube comments on Channel Super Fun is
33:16 genuinely hilarious. Would highly recommend that. Uh there's some tech
33:19 wiki stuff on here. Why do people still use fax machines? If you guys like the
33:23 sketch that we did um for our scanners
33:27 um fast as possible. Uh you're going to love this one. Um so yes, why do people
33:32 still use fax machines? Uh featuring the one, the only Dennis Leowl. Um currently
33:36 on Floatplane Club just went up today. And yeah. Hey, it's you. Hey, there he
33:41 is. It's coming out of a phone. I love it.
33:45 I'm going to show you guys just the first little bit of this. sitting there
33:48 minding your own business and you go, "What's that strange ticking noise? Oh
33:52 my goodness, it's my god, it's a bomb." So, you call your friend. Anyways,
33:57 that's your teaser. And there there's there's there's another episode um about
34:02 um about SEO, I believe, which
34:05 isn't as exciting, but it's still very interesting. A cool a cool topic. The
34:09 TechWiki is interesting because it doesn't have like the like sex appeal of
34:14 certain channels, but it's more interesting than a lot of other things.
34:18 Luke has basically summed up my entire life.
34:21 It's not what I was trying to say. Well, you said.
34:25 Anyways, if you need a website for whatever reason, you can go to
34:29 Squarespace and get your website on Squarespace. You can save 10% by using
34:33 offer code WAN. They have 24/7 live chat and email support. It is 12 bucks a
34:38 month. And if you subscribe for a year, you get a domain rolled in with that.
34:42 They have a commerce module, so you can sell your stuff online. They have a cover page feature, so you can have one
34:46 nice, beautiful, scrollable page. Um, and everyone can now publish content in
34:51 the Apple News format directly from their Squarespace blog module, which is
34:55 pretty cool. Um, it's it's automatically available to millions of potential
34:59 viewers. This thing dynamically changes
35:03 in a responsive way to basically whatever screen size and whatever format
35:07 you need. It's all done for you. It's fantastic. Did you talk about commerce
35:11 already? Yes, I do. If you're using Squarespace and you want to host an
35:14 online store, this is new. This is a pretty recent update uh to the platform.
35:18 They they they now support lots of different new currencies. So if you want
35:23 to take Israeli shekels, if you want to take pesos from Mexico, if you want to
35:26 take New Zealand dollars, Singapore dollars, even uh rubles from our good
35:30 friends over in Russia, you can do that now. That's really cool, actually. Um so
35:34 it's squarespace.com/wan, offer code WAN, 10% off. Moving on, if you need to
35:38 fix some stuff, I actually use this thing very often at home now that I have
35:43 one at home, but iFix's ProTek toolkit. You've probably seen them in a lot of
35:47 our content. Uh we use them in Scrapyard Wars. Uh, yeah, it's a 64-bit driver
35:53 kit. Magnets, which is actually really nice. The the lid for the driver kit
35:58 magnetically goes on and when you take it off, you can use it as a parts tray,
36:01 which is pretty sick. Um, it has precision ESD safe tweezers, including a
36:06 pair of reverse tweezers. Um, it has a
36:09 rather wide variety of plastic opening tools that are better quality. Let me
36:13 see if I actually have one here.
36:17 Yes, these things are beautiful. Some of
36:21 the the older ones that they had were still really cool and I liked them a
36:25 lot, but they weren't as durable as these ones are. So, after you use them a
36:30 few times, the edge would get a little chewed up and then you might have some
36:33 issues getting through some thinner electronics. But these new ones have
36:38 been able to withstand like everything we've thrown at them. Uh, which has
36:42 actually been really cool. They give you three, which is pretty awesome. So even
36:46 if you do manage to wear through a few of them, they've really been a lifesaver
36:50 because the current trend in electronics desk oh not desktops but um laptops,
36:54 tablets, mobile phones has been let's make this thing as difficult to use user
36:59 service as possible. So the opening tools really help. So those are like
37:02 manual intervention openers basically. Um it's backed by iFix its lifetime
37:07 warranty which is awesome. um buy it
37:11 because it's awesome or don't and you still get access to all of their free
37:14 repair resources, which is awesome. So, even if you have your own driver kit and
37:18 your own tools, if you want to get into repairing stuff and you don't want to
37:21 buy this, you can still go to iFixit's website and learn how to take things
37:25 apart, which is awesome. They use their own tool kits on there, so it's easier
37:29 if you have their toolkit. But yeah, head over to L uh sorry, head over to
37:34 ifixit.com/Linus and use offer code Linus at the checkout to save five bucks
37:37 on a purchase of 10 bucks or more.
37:41 There you go. And if you're in Canada, this is actually a pretty cool note. If
37:45 you're in Canada, check out amazon.ca for cheaper shipping options because
37:50 sometimes we have sponsors and we talk about buying it or whatever and people
37:54 in Canada where we're from are like, "Guys, you're from our own region and
37:58 shipping sucks for this." So, they're offering another option, which is pretty
38:01 cool. Also, LTX, if you want to show up to a
38:07 weird place and meet us weird people and do weird things, uh, you can go you can
38:12 buy tickets for LTX. I'm going to move to that thing. There we go. So, you can
38:16 go to the the worst URL to say out loud
38:19 ever, which is ticketrocket.co/eventdetails246LTX-20
38:26 2017. Come meet me. We can talk about burger
38:30 trivia. Oh my god. You should have a trivia booth. We'll figure something
38:35 out. That would actually be awesome. I'm doing VR stuff. Taran's editing a video.
38:39 You can do the like What is that? Geogesser. Yeah. No promises, but it's a
38:44 fantastic idea. I'm going to look into it. I actually like that a lot. That would be freaking great.
38:49 And back to the real show. Okay. What is
38:53 there even to talk about still? This week was weird. Most of the like
38:57 interesting news from this week is in literal videos that Lionus hosted from
39:02 Computex, but um Microsoft has rolled out not one but
39:07 two bad builds on the Windows Insider program.
39:12 Thanks guys. It's like every so often they're like they remember, oh, we're
39:16 that company that made Windows MI. We should remind people that from time to
39:20 time when they do things like this Windows MI Millennium Edition. No, I
39:25 know. I just don't hear it called that very often. But yeah, I that's kind of
39:28 how they marketed it. Like me, oh, it's my version of Windows is for regular
39:33 people in the year 2000. Except it wasn't. It just made everyone very very
39:37 mad because it didn't work. Yeah, the marketing was terrible. But Windows 7
39:41 professional update. So yeah. Uh I like I don't know.
39:46 Okay. And now people in the chat are saying or appear to think that I said
39:51 Windows meme emme. Oh my god. which it
39:54 kind of was. Someone needs to make a custom Microsoft OS that is skinned all
40:00 with memes. It's like every day when you log on there's like a different courage
40:04 wolf as your background. He's saying different things. Cartana is advice dog.
40:09 Is it just advice dog? Yeah. Yeah. It should just be It's been a while since that meme was popular, but like Yeah,
40:14 you you could even do like a twoin one with that. You could have it be advice
40:17 dog, but it could start every sentence to you with yo dog, like the exhibit meme. There you go. Nice. When whenever
40:23 your system has like a pretty heavy slowdown and then comes up with like an
40:26 error, it can be slowpoke. That'd be good. Please, someone do this.
40:32 That would be fantastic. You're You know what? You're like, you're you're you're
40:36 developing an idea for another line of tech this video as we speak. The custom
40:40 meme. Windows meme. Yeah, there you go.
40:45 Oh jeez. John's pics. What is this? This
40:48 is just crap I sent to James. Okay. What is this? Tell the people. Tell the
40:54 people. Okay. Um, well, first thing I
40:57 will do is I did find this earlier and I did read it, but I've been busy since
41:01 then. So, let me click on the article first. And right to speak freely about
41:06 engineering is subject of First Amendment lawsuit. An engineer was fined
41:11 $500 for discussing traffic light engineering without a license. So, this
41:16 happened down in Oregon, which is not too far from here. Uh, so Oh, I heard
41:19 about this. Apparently, this guy sent the state some advice about um traffic
41:25 light timings. Um specifically, he wanted to make yellows longer. Um which
41:31 is which obviously can be very important for traffic flow reasons and also not to
41:35 surprise people when they think they have enough time to drive through an intersection, but they actually don't.
41:39 Anyway, so um but instead of the state saying, "Hey, thank you for speaking
41:44 out, concerned citizen. Let's have a look at this." they instead slap him
41:47 with a $500 fine for doing something along the lines of practicing
41:52 engineering without a license. Now, as some of you know, um I went to law
41:56 school. I have a law license, which is currently inactive because why do I need
41:59 it right now? But I do have one from North Carolina and it there and in every
42:03 other state and also up here in Canada, you can't do a thing called unauthorized
42:07 practice of law. You can't practice law or give legal advice without a license.
42:12 It's against the law. So for engineering um I also believe every state has like a
42:16 professional license by for engineers licensing body for engineers where
42:20 they're doing the same thing but just like I can sit here on the WAN Show and
42:24 generally discuss legal topics like I am doing right now actually without giving
42:29 anyone specific advice. You would think an engineer could do the same thing but
42:34 the state of Oregon is saying to him no you can't even talk about it without a
42:39 license because I think this guy doesn't have his license yet. So, this is a huge
42:43 problem. Um, ended up going to court. Uh, he ended up suing uh the state of
42:47 Oregon uh for breach of his first amendment rights, which is free speech.
42:51 You can you can say what you want to. Um, and I think this is still going on,
42:55 but they basically said that he can talk
42:59 about this as long as the lawsuit is pending. So, that is where where we are
43:03 with this. Okay. Yeah. Interesting. I don't understand legal stuff, so I have
43:07 concerns and questions, but I'm just going to move on because they're probably juvenile. Uh, big leagues,
43:13 $10 million League of Legends tournament. Holy butt chunks. Team
43:19 applications for the new LCS open today. The buyin price is $10 million.
43:27 Players on the 10 selected teams get a guaranteed salary of at least $75,000.
43:33 Wait, the buyin is 10 million? Yeah, that the buyin for the World Series of
43:37 Poker isn't even $10 million. How how how does that
43:41 Jeez, pretty nuts. Yeah. Yeah. Um Riot
43:44 Game said it end goal is to create a strong and stable system that's
43:49 profitable for pro players and provides entertainment for fans in the long term.
43:54 And I guess they plan to do that by charging $10 million for 10 teams, which
44:00 is $100 million. How many people on the team?
44:04 you know, like there there would be five active players, but you have like a
44:09 roster where you have coach and benches.
44:12 Like there's there's other stuff going on.
44:16 Once the 10 teams are determined, they are in the league for good. Ry says it
44:21 will offer incentives to teams that play well and penalize the squads that
44:26 purposefully that purposefully stay at the bottom of
44:29 the ladder. What?
44:34 Um, teams that tank for for on purpose for some reason. Why? Okay, so
44:40 admittedly I don't really watch esports. It's been a very long time since I've
44:44 played LOL, but uh what I can say in um
44:47 in more traditional sports um what
44:51 certain teams at times are um especially
44:54 in the US and Canada, it doesn't really work this way in Europe, but in the US and Canada, um teams will be accused of
44:58 tanking if they have no no hope of making the playoffs. So, they end up
45:02 tanking for a better draft pick. So, so
45:05 whether this has ever actually happened is a matter of debate, but like there's
45:09 accusations of it happening that pop up every now and then. Maybe it's something
45:12 like that you get some kind of extra benefit. Are you draft picking in League
45:16 of Legends though? I don't think so. I don't think that's how it works. To be
45:19 clear, we're not talking about draft picks in terms of like when you're
45:23 drafting heroes for that game. Um No, we
45:26 probably have a lot of people that don't watch sports at all. Yeah, it's we're talking about like like the NFL's
45:31 college player draft where the worst the worst teams can pick earlier to help
45:36 make them better. So, yeah. pick a player like a person, a human being. Not
45:42 not draft picking like, oh, let's let's ban Ezreal or something. I don't know
45:46 why you'd do that. I don't think he's very strong right now. Someone says they say not to get relegated, which may be
45:51 true. So, that would be more like a not to get relegated. More like soccer, you
45:55 know, about promotion, relegation, soccer. Okay. Interesting. Okay. Uh,
46:00 that's pretty nuts. That's That is That is so much a $10 million buy in. I
46:06 wonder how well they're going to do. I don't know. I almost wonder if if they
46:10 would if if it would help them to have like teens represent specific areas like
46:15 real sports or traditional sports. I won't insult anybody, but I don't see.
46:19 Okay. I have no idea. It's so new. That's like a deeper topic, but I don't
46:23 think so because I think with esports it's more of a global thing and because
46:29 everyone basically everyone is watching online and they online. Yeah. Like there
46:36 I don't think there's a lot of
46:39 team like personalities you like or like I I
46:45 could see a little bit more like national spirit like if there was like
46:48 the American team that happens a lot in like individual sports a a little bit
46:53 more like traditional individual sports. You know we did have um a heroes of the
46:57 dorm in the US where uh the larger colleges all enter college teams into
47:01 this. So there was like a little bit of that but yeah so yeah interesting. Next
47:05 up, we have the first Ryzenbased all-in-one, which is actually pretty
47:10 crazy. It's It's a Dell all-in-one. Let's have a look at her. It looks
47:14 pretty nice, actually. Uh Dell Inspiron
47:18 27775
47:21 AIO. It's an 8 core AMD Ryzen 7. Hey,
47:24 six numbers in a row. All right. Great name. Pretty freaking nuts. Well, I get
47:28 the 27's got to be 27. Well, yes, but but even so, like even so. So, it's the
47:33 7775 AO or 7775, whatever you want to
47:36 call it. Uh AMD Ryzen 7 chip, Radeon RX
47:40 580, and a 4K LCD screen. And it looks
47:43 pretty sharp. You could actually do some like pretty serious gaming on it with an
47:46 RX 580. Yeah. Yeah. Um the the chassis
47:50 very vaguely reminds me of the the Surface Studio from Microsoft, like a
47:55 little bit, you know, like the way the mouse is, like the way the chassis is.
47:59 Yeah. Yeah. some of the 7775.
48:06 Uh, this is worded a little bit weirdly,
48:09 but I can get I'm going to I'm going to jump away from that actually. Come on
48:13 in. Well, I couldn't tell if they were talking. Whoa, I just screwed
48:17 everything. At first, the diabetes cure, now this. Okay, so despite being Yes.
48:21 So, it's actually the Inspiron 277000
48:25 series. The 7775 is a specific version.
48:29 There's multiple versions of it. Um, the low-end version is a quad core AMD Ryzen
48:35 51400 with an RX 560 with 4 gigs of GDDDR5
48:41 memory and then 180 W PSU. But if you
48:45 jump up to the high-end, I believe that one that I just noted is about $1,000.
48:50 Um, and if you jump to the high-end, you get an 8core AMD Ryzen 7700, which I had
48:55 just mentioned, and then a Radeon RX 580
48:59 with 8 gigs of GDDR5 and a 330 W power supply. And I believe
49:05 you can get up to 32 gigs of RAM with one of these. I do hope the lower-end
49:09 one didn't go for like the full like ball in 4K display because there's no
49:13 way you're going to get 4K consistently with say some low have the 4K. So, I
49:18 seriously doubt that the low-end one is so the bare bones one is a grand. So,
49:22 there we go. Here we go. If we scroll down a little bit, they do a they do a
49:27 better job with it. So, we're uh display or screen display. There we go. Um yeah,
49:32 so the cheaper one is 1080p. It's still IPS, so it's still going to be a pretty
49:36 good looking display, but it's going to be 1080p. Yeah. 1980 by That's got to be
49:40 a typo. Should be 1920 x 1080.
49:45 Yeah. That's pretty interesting, isn't it? I think that is a typo. In terms of
49:49 USB connections, which is like a topic of much debate these days, I do see
49:54 type-C, which is good. So, they have two USB 2.0, which is fine. They have three
49:59 USB typeA, or sorry, they have three two
50:02 USB 2.0 type A, which is fine. Three USB 3.0 type A, which is good. One USB 3.1
50:09 type C, which is solid. Um, and then one
50:12 USB 3.1 type A, which is also pretty good. The webcam is 720p, which is like
50:19 actually a little disappointing. Um,
50:23 like still seeing stuff showing up in 720p is H. Um, it's running Windows 10
50:28 Home 64bit, which is about what you'd probably expect.
50:33 It's kind of cool, though. It looks sharp. Um, I'm happy to see
50:38 AMD getting their products and stuff like this. So, that's cool. Yeah, it
50:41 also looks a little bit more elegant than some past gaming AIOs we've seen. I
50:44 mean, granted, a lot of that is most is more the GPU manufacturers, but even so,
50:49 and I think part of this is that it I don't think it's heavily aimed at
50:52 gaming. It's not it's game on if you
50:56 want. It's powerful enough. The the higherend one is definitely powerful enough that you could, but it looks more
51:01 like it's designed for like, oh, if you wanted to edit some video or photos and
51:05 stuff like the uh com the Twitch chat
51:08 says 580 for 4K casual use is great. And I would agree with that. So, yeah. Yeah.
51:14 There we go. Okay, moving on. We're a
51:18 little thin on topics. Are we talking about um
51:22 uh the the facial recognition thing with the monkeys? So, we want to talk about
51:26 that. Where's that? It's down here, right? It's under John's pics. This is
51:29 which is why I mentioned I didn't know what the heck was going on. # shameless. You want to start talking about it? I'll
51:33 get it on screen. So, uh, there's an article in the Guardian here about, uh,
51:38 scientists discovering how the brain recogniz recognizes faces by reading the
51:42 minds of monkeys. More specifically, analyzing their brain wave patterns.
51:46 Yeah, it's a little different, but you know, and what they what they did was
51:50 they they looked at their brain waves and decoded faces that the monkey like
51:54 human faces that the monkeys remembered. And you might be able to see it on the
51:57 screen capture here, but they were almost exactly the same as the subjects
52:02 appeared in real life, which is both cool and a little bit unnerving. So, you
52:09 know, you start wondering about, oh, well, things like, you know, reading
52:12 minds and that and reading thoughts were
52:16 once purely the realm of science fiction, but now you're starting to
52:20 wonder, okay, you know, is this something that, you know, actually has
52:23 has some some water to it? You know, some of them look like video game
52:27 versions of the real people a little bit. Yeah. So, so the so the predicted
52:31 faces are on the right and the actuals on on the left. Yeah, they're pretty
52:35 close though. Actually, for this one, I thought the predicted face was the
52:38 accurate one and the actual face was not. Isn't that weird? Cuz the actual
52:41 face on this one actually looks lower resolution
52:44 than the predicted face, which is kind of interesting.
52:49 Yeah. So, you know, you have to wonder about, you know, is this does this mean
52:54 that a person could end up one day with
52:57 the correct equipment seeing, oh, what is a person thinking, but or who they're
53:01 thinking about and what they're thinking about there. I think that they were also
53:05 talking about um your brain encodes like
53:09 faces a certain way and it does much
53:12 kind of like a GPU would do like mathematical transformations to like if
53:17 you're if there's a shape on your computer screen and it's like rotating
53:20 you can see it's like a cube or it's a circle or it's a sphere like whatever
53:23 else your GPU is doing mathematical transformations to it to figure out what
53:28 it looks like. So it's the article was saying the brain works similarly where
53:32 if you have met a person a couple times even if you haven't seen their face from
53:36 every possible angle your your brain can do these mathematical transformations.
53:41 So when you see the person again maybe just see them like from the side or like
53:44 from an angle when they're walking away from you but you can still figure out
53:47 who it is. So it's it seems like it's
53:50 tapping more into that part of the brain. As far as reading like emotional
53:55 thoughts that might be a little bit different. I don't know. But someone in the chat said how to hide your porn.
54:01 So like we'd we'd have to make like a version two of that video. Yeah. It's
54:06 like think of your grandma. Here's how not to think about what you've been
54:09 looking at. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's like Well, it's like as soon as you say don't
54:13 think of a pink elephant, you think of pink. So Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. How to hide
54:18 your porn version two mind readading edition.
54:23 That'd be freaking awesome. I should make that video at some point in a
54:26 thousand years. This might get litigated. Does this cover the right to
54:29 p the right to privacy cover your own thoughts? You know, I would certainly think it does, but who I mean, who
54:35 knows? Who knows at this point? Who knows? They're allowed to record it.
54:38 Well, you know, when you think in public, you implicitly give up your right to privacy. Of course, I can see
54:43 some lawyer making that argument like hundreds of years from now. So, yeah.
54:47 Yeah, I don't know. But NVIDIA announces GPUs for thinner gaming laptops. So,
54:53 they've got a few different things going on. Uh, now NVIDIA is looking to find
54:58 the fastest and most power optimized performance level to allow laptops under
55:02 20 millimeters thick and sport a GTX
55:05 1080. Well, we're already getting pretty close, aren't we? Like with with the new
55:09 like the new Razer blades, you know, you can get a 1080 in those. And how thick
55:13 are those? You know, I'm not sure on exact thickness for those, but he's
55:17 showing pretty thin freaking laptops right here with his trademark leather
55:20 jacket. Very good. With his freaking leather jacket.
55:27 Max Q.
55:31 It's cool. Thinner laptops is good. Whisper mode, blah blah blah blah blah.
55:36 We're constantly getting ah see Forbes even.
55:40 At least they say from the web, but like still, come on, guys.
55:45 News websites that advertise articles
55:49 for clickbait news is such a weird situation. It really, really is. cuz
55:54 there's tons of people that really can't tell the difference.
55:58 Super lame. Anyways, that's that's just a cool thing. NVIDIA's trying to do
56:02 that. That's cool. Mhm. They'll they will, I'm sure, succeed if they're going
56:06 to be this open about the fact that the hey, we're going to do this. Yeah,
56:10 they've probably already done it. Mhm. Um ASRock announces ITX boards for AMD
56:16 Ryzen. That's super cool. Um, I've been
56:19 kind of waiting for I expected it was going to happen faster than it has been,
56:24 but I wanted MATX to get really popular.
56:29 There is a serious serious lack of um
56:34 really good looking microATX boards out there. And that's part of the problem.
56:39 Yeah. But ITX boards too, like I I expected to see more of this stuff going
56:43 on. I think with Fantex's new case, I
56:46 can't remember the new name for it. The old name for it was project 217, but as
56:50 of this competex, they have a new name for it. I think that might even help
56:53 because Fentex cases are super popular and this thing's freaking beautiful.
56:57 Yeah. I just want to talk about micro ATX for a second because because when
57:01 you think about it, if you're an enthusiast, it has to be the most
57:05 sensible form factor, you know, because because no one uses four-way SLI
57:09 Crossfire anymore, but you get two slots usually micro ATX. So, if you want to
57:13 expand, you can. You should get like a little bit more IO like but but most
57:17 people are doing external DAXs, not internal sound cards anymore. Exactly.
57:20 So you don't really need like but and even if you want like PCI Expressbased
57:25 storage, most people are using M.2 Optains coming up so that you don't have
57:29 to slot it into a traditional slot. So it's just like why don't you see more of
57:33 this? Because ATX is overkill for most people with the amount of expandability
57:36 that you're just never going to use. So yeah, and you can get some really nifty
57:41 kind of small cases, but that's part of the problem too. There isn't a huge
57:44 amount of demand on the motherboard side. So, the cases aren't there yet
57:49 really. There isn't a ton of cases for it because of that. And then there isn't
57:53 a ton of cases for it because of that. So, people don't want to build that form factor.
57:57 So, there isn't a ton of demand for the motherboards. We're in like kind of a
58:01 stuck situation, but I wish they'd get a little bit more popular. I hate stuck
58:06 situations. Ducklet Schwag says, "I didn't realize John knew this much
58:10 stuff." Yeah, I've had a nickel for every time I've heard that. Have you
58:13 ever watched Techquiki?
58:18 Techquikookie is is more or less unanimously written by John. It's it's
58:22 essentially like it's my channel and it's not. I'm basically creative
58:27 director for whatever it's worth, but tons of other people contribute to it,
58:30 too. But yes, so but like especially on
58:34 the writing side, like entirely, but especially on the writing side. I'm
58:38 trying not to sound like a jerk hogging all the credit. So, but yeah. I know on
58:42 the writing side is basically the John show right now. So yeah, I think that's
58:47 probably about it for the show today. Yeah. Do we
58:52 do we need to make Taffy stretch or are we stretch like stretch like Well, you
58:57 know when you come to the end of a program but it's not the end. You have
59:00 like blank space. Do we need to like Oh no. No. We just need to roll the intro.
59:05 Outro. I mean intro outro. It's the same thing.
59:10 I can try to do it with Nope. The stream deck's still not
59:14 working. Such a sh It looks so And look at this. When I press the button, you
59:18 can see you can tell it's just one screen cuz I'm like damaging it.
59:26 Hey, Taran, come look at this. That's so sad. Are you still alive? Thank you
59:29 Squarespace. Is it working or not? No,
59:32 it's not. LTX 2017. Thank you us, I
59:36 guess. And thank you iFix It. Bye guys.
59:40 Got to reset this. Bye. It'll work as
59:43 soon as you stop streaming.
