0:01 we've all been there
0:04 you're settled into your groove you got your doritos and
0:08 mountain dew akimbo
0:11 you're finally ready to break out of silver and overwatch comp and then you
0:16 jump on comms and you're greeted by
0:19 keyboard clattering staticky garbage from that one teammate
0:24 with a questionable username and if that's you
0:28 don't fret because now is your time to
0:32 ascend to the crisp clean land
0:36 of good audio and for just about 50 bucks
0:41 by the way if you value good audio as much as you value privacy you should
0:44 check out pia private internet access is the vpn that encrypts all of your
0:48 internet traffic and uses a safe protected ip it's got a ton of other
0:52 useful features as well check it out now at the link below
1:04 okay so we were playing it up a little bit most people don't have potato
1:09 headsets these days but that's not to say that there aren't tons of options
1:13 that straight up slap around even a decent all-in-one
1:19 gaming headset even if it does boast high quality
1:23 communication and built-in premium noise
1:26 canceling features because as appealing as all of that
1:30 sounds in writing in the real world appealing is probably the last word you
1:35 would use to describe the sounds coming from something like this one
1:39 but before we get into the microphones it's
1:43 important to note that unless it's a potato audio is
1:47 highly subjective so while i might
1:51 choose one microphone over another one my voice isn't yours my ears aren't
1:56 yours and it's ultimately up to you to decide what sounds best so i would
2:00 highly recommend taking advantage of return policies where necessary to try
2:05 out a couple of different mics to find the best fit our first microphone is the
2:09 samson meteorite coming in at 40 bucks a
2:12 purchase that i actually hesitated on since it completely lacks
2:17 any mounting options which means it'll likely sit right beside your keyboard
2:24 other best cheap mic roundups featured it though so we decided to give it a go
2:29 and my suspicions were immediately confirmed it is literally just a ball
2:34 with a usb cable so unless you plan on getting creative
2:38 with your hot glue gun it'll pick up every keyboard clack
2:42 desk bump and a ton of other background noise but wait it gets worse because of
2:48 how far the mic sits from your face you'll have to pretty much crank the mic
2:53 gain amplifying the issue
2:56 so i'm not sure why other people are recommending this thing
3:00 we don't let's move on to something a little more enticing
3:05 this is the fifeine k669 usb microphone
3:09 aside from its excellent name it sports a nice brushed pink exterior with
3:13 physical gain control on the front unlike our previous mistake and it comes
3:18 with a stand to keep the mic in a prime position to capture noises from your
3:22 mouth hole rather than from your keyboard platform but the most amazing
3:26 thing about this thing is the price it's the least expensive microphone we tested
3:32 coming in at just 28 less than you might spend on loot boxes
3:36 in a month if you're one of those people overall sound
3:40 really good but it's a bit lacking in the noise isolation department so you
3:44 might want to invest some of the money you saved on a different mount to keep
3:48 it further away from your keyboard next up we've got a mic from blue yes
3:53 that blue the one of yeti fame but this one is significantly less expensive the
3:58 snowball ice comes in at 50 bucks or as low as about 40 dollars on sale and it
4:03 includes a little plastic tripod with standard threading so that you can use
4:07 the snowball with a third-party stand its odd shape though can make it tricky
4:12 to shock mount without buying their expensive first party solution
4:16 as for quality though the snowball is very clear with solid noise isolation
4:21 thanks to its almost entirely foam padded internals
4:25 however if you have a soft voice you might have some trouble with it as the
4:29 padding also seems to absorb some of the incoming vocals
4:33 it does work to the advantage of us squeakers though so uh
4:37 i'm pretty much liking this one pretty well
4:41 it's pretty too
4:46 but Linus what about xlr
4:49 i'm glad you asked so we tried a few different xlr setups based around
4:53 behringer's you euphoria um2 xlr
4:57 interface at just 30 bucks it might not be glamorous but it's an awesome gateway
5:03 drug into the xl audio game on the cheap
5:07 and we're able to do it without using one of
5:10 these please don't use these
5:15 now sadly since it's basically impossible to
5:18 stay under 50 without buying some stuff
5:21 used or already having a little bit on hand this is a more premium option
5:26 but if you already have an xlr cable and a
5:30 microphone stand you can pick up the xm
5:33 8500 also from behringer for just 20
5:36 bucks which would have you sitting right at 50
5:41 this setup is basically a usb mic killer
5:44 in any environment thanks to the excellent background noise suppression
5:48 that dynamic microphones have not to mention that you can easily
5:53 upgrade this setup in the future with a mic like the sure pga 48 or sm48 for 34
5:59 dollars and 43 dollars respectively
6:04 so then what should you buy
6:08 well if you're looking for the best bang for your buck it's hard to beat the fi
6:12 fine k669s sleek design and excellent
6:15 sound quality at just 28
6:19 but if you're rocking cherry mx blues in your keyboard or if you're a buckling
6:23 spring aficionado i'd go with the blue snowball or the behringer xlr setup as
6:28 they both give you exceptional noise isolation
6:33 just don't buy the meteorite that thing
6:36 is terrible i'd pick it up and you know what i'm gonna pick it up
6:41 taking it out of the crater could get it because it's a meteorite
6:46 speaking of meteorites ting does
6:50 phone plans not meteor anything you pay
6:53 just six dollars per phone line plus the minutes messages and data that you
6:57 actually use every month with usage shared across all of your devices so the
7:01 more phones on one ting account the less you can end up paying per phone with an
7:06 average bill of just 23 dollars a month per phone ting is the smarter choice for
7:10 mobile and they offer service on two nationwide lte networks so the phone you
7:15 already own will likely work with ting there are no contracts and no overage
7:20 fees so you can try ting for a month with no commitments whatsoever so check
7:24 out Linus.ting.com to get 25 bucks off your
7:28 bill or towards a new phone
