0:00 Linus TechTips coverage of CES 2016 is brought to you by Squarespace. Build it
0:05 beautiful. So, we found something that seemed pretty unlikely at the Sony
0:09 booth. This, my friends, is a watch.
0:12 It's $300, so it's not exactly cheap, but you
0:16 know, for a watch, not exactly expensive. And you can walk up to it.
0:19 It's got this flat display on the front. You can swipe your fingers back and
0:23 forth, and absolutely crap, all will happen because it is not a smart watch.
0:28 No, my friends, this is the FES watch.
0:31 It's an e in like e- paper watch that is
0:35 purely a watch and fashion accessory.
0:38 It's got an adjustable band as you'd expect. It's completely seamless.
0:42 There's no holes in the display side of itself. And by clicking the one button
0:46 on the side, you can cycle through 20 different patterns depending on what
0:51 kind of a mood you're in. That's pretty much it. There's nothing to say about it
0:56 other than that. So, if you're into, you know, simple technology, then this might
1:01 be your thing. Otherwise, well, we've got something else to show you as well.
1:06 So, pretty much my favorite thing at CES is being told that I'm right. And last
1:11 year when I went around to all the different TV booths and I was like, "Oh,
1:16 yeah, that's a really shiny TV. That's a shiny TV, too." And I'm like, "Oh, Sony,
1:19 I actually don't care how shiny your TV is because you actually had the sense to
1:23 implement Android into it instead of, you know, building your own operating
1:27 system that, let's face it, nothing is ever going to support the way that
1:31 Android will be." And this right here is like a super awesome validation for me
1:36 because one of the biggest things preventing me from investing in Philips
1:40 Hue lighting or, you know, Lutron light
1:43 switches or the battery operated blinds that I've got to my right over here is
1:48 the fact that they've all got completely separate apps. Some of which work well,
1:52 some of which are frankly complete complete trash. And it's it's actually
1:57 more effort to pull my phone out of my pocket and kind of like open up a
2:02 different like by that time I might as well get off my ass and go adjust my thermostat because it's time to sleep
2:07 and I want it to be a little bit cooler. This This is cool. This is the Harmony
2:13 Home Hub and it is actually working in
2:17 tandem. Sony and Logitech are working together with a Sony smart TV running
2:21 Android to take that fragmented ecosystem and make all of those devices
2:26 work together just with the native Android support that they have and with
2:31 the TV communicating directly with the Harmony Home Hub. So, you can actually
2:34 use a Harmony remote, you can use your phone with the Harmony app, or you can
2:38 even use your Sony TV remote as well. So, you press the discover button and
2:43 I'm going to discover something other than Adam Sandler in my life. Just
2:47 kidding. I I I I do. Happy Gilmore is actually one of my favorite alltime
2:50 movies. And I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to say, "Okay, uh, good
2:54 night." What happens with good night is the lighting changes or turns off. Takes
2:59 a minute. The blinds go all the way down and boom, all of a sudden I'm sleeping.
3:03 My TV is now off. Now, this is really
3:06 cool. And there are over 200,000 Internet of Things devices that are
3:10 going to be supported by this solution. But the one thing that's still missing
3:15 and that I'm really hoping to get like super excited press release email from
3:19 Sony about sometime in the near future is, hey, we figured out how to make it
3:23 work while the TV is not already on
3:26 because you can't run the Android operating system on the TV without the screen being on just yet. But I'm really
3:32 excited to see someone, whether it's Logitech or Sony or some combination of
3:36 the two, trying to figure out how to make all this stuff actually accessible
3:40 in addition to being something that I spent a bunch of money on. and is inside
3:44 my house. So, don't miss any of our CES
