0:00 thanks to dbrand for sponsoring our CES coverage this year check out their
0:04 awesome skins at the link below so we find ourselves in the Acer Suite
0:10 where they seem to be aimed squarely at
0:13 that Dell inspiring kind of value gaming
0:17 machine that we checked out a while ago on the channel over here this right here
0:22 is the Aspire vx15 it's kind of a mid-tier sort of
0:28 feeling machine so yeah it doesn't have the greatest hinge I've ever seen but
0:32 I'll give them credit for the keyboard it actually has surprisingly little Flex
0:36 for a system of this caliber so it's going to be priced somewhere in the
0:40 neighborhood of 800 to 1200 US Dollars
0:44 and you are going to be getting actually a surprising amount of hardware for your
0:50 buck so anywhere from a core i5 7300 HQ
0:53 with eight gigs of ddr4 RAM and a GTX 1050 with a 256 gig SSD all the way up
1:00 to a core i7 7700 HQ with a GTX 1050 TI
1:05 16 gigs of RAM either of them could be upgraded to 32 gigs as we discovered
1:10 after the fact and up to a 512 gig SSD
1:14 and one terabyte of mechanical storage now of course as with any value notebook
1:19 I'm looking for the places where they cheaped out a little bit and initially I
1:24 thought that the 1080p display was going
1:27 to be one of them but in actuality while
1:31 the spec sheets at IPS this one was clearly TN it turns out that that's just
1:35 something Acer does on their pre-production sort of mechanical sample
1:41 models to save a little bit of a cost makes perfect sense to me it turns out
1:45 where they did save a little bit of money was on the i o so instead of
1:49 getting Thunderbolt 3 or you know USB 10
1:52 gigabit or anything like that you get an SD card reader a headphone microphone
1:56 combo Jack normal USB 3 5 gigabit on the
2:00 one side then you get a couple more USB 3s HDMI gigabit Ethernet and a type c by
2:07 but still USB port so that's not actually a Thunderbolt 3 port or
2:12 anything like that ventilation looks pretty solid and in terms of styling you
2:16 can tell they're inspired by their Predator line with red accents and all
2:21 of that but they're still using the Acer branding on this one trying to go after
2:25 someone like the the traveling professional who wants something they
2:29 can game on in the hotel room but isn't
2:32 embarrassed to pull out in a boardroom
2:36 so thanks for checking out this video on the vx15 from Acer don't miss any of our
2:41 show coverage by making sure that you are subscribed to Linus Tech tips and
2:45 also a huge shout out to dbrand the sponsor of today's content dbrand is the
2:51 place to go if you want to get a slick skin for your laptop your phone your
2:55 game controller your game console whatever the case may be they are
2:58 Precision fitted they're affordable and they ship worldwide not to mention that
3:03 they make your devices look a little bit cooler and make them a little bit more
3:08 incidental scratch and scuff resistant not that I would have any problems with
3:11 dropping my devices or anything like that
