0:08 today this my friends is the new world's
0:13 thinnest laptop the acer swift 7 and i would forgive you
0:18 for not being able to tell the difference between this one and the old
0:21 swift 7 based on the name but don't worry you guys uh they've got the
0:26 model number sf714
0:31 that's how you can tell the difference now i don't condone calling products the
0:34 same thing year after year but i'm also not sure facer has the right solution
0:38 either way the name is not what counts it's all about
0:42 the hardware so let's have a look at what they've managed to cram in here
0:47 first up we've got a 7th gen core i7
0:51 this time last time it was just a core
0:54 i5 so now we've got a core i7 7y6
0:58 CPU at a base of 1.3 you can actually see it's turboing to 3.3 gigahertz right
1:03 now it's got 8 gigs of memory it's got
1:07 256 gigs of storage and it is just 8.98
1:12 millimeters thick making it just also
1:15 1.15 kilograms so this is among the lightest laptops we have ever seen as
1:20 well improvements over the last generation in addition to the CPU also
1:26 include a touchscreen display now if you're into that sort of thing
1:30 probably the most shocking thing about this guy is the keyboard it has an
1:35 amazing amount of travel
1:38 for something that is built into something so thin so i think the only
1:43 solution is to uh take it apart and find out exactly how they did that now one
1:48 thing you are sacrificing it's backlit too look at that one thing you are
1:52 sacrificing is that the track pad is no longer clickable so you're gonna need to
1:56 do a touch for left and a double touch like that for right but i think if
2:01 you're the kind of person who is really into super thin laptops you can probably
2:05 make do with that overall i was also impressed by the sturdiness so this is
2:09 an aluminum unibody design and it is completely fanless
2:14 so how'd they do it well i took the liberty of pre-removing and loosening
2:20 most of the screws so i could open this baby up for you
2:27 yeah this is when i this is when i have the most fun at these shows
2:32 all right let's see if we can get this popped
2:35 the easiest way to do it i already tried this once
2:38 was to kind of kind of give it a little bend
2:42 oh well uh but um
2:45 now it's off yeah
2:49 okay so how'd they do it so about a
2:52 third of the laptop maybe about 25 of it is taken up by this 36 watt hour battery
2:58 right here it looks like that is actually two
3:01 separate batteries or two separate cells it's
3:05 kind of hard to tell i'm not going to get too much into the details here
3:08 here's the fanless cooler so they've actually got two heat pipes running from
3:13 it so it looks like the heat is going to be dissipated through the keyboard it's
3:17 not something i noticed while i was playing around with it so it clearly
3:20 doesn't heat up too much but there's your CPU right there and it's basically
3:24 just using like copper sheeting as a heat sink really
3:29 impressive stuff our storage drive is up here so this is actually a 512 gig drive
3:35 but they are planning to ship this with a 256 and then RAM is not upgradable
3:40 like the SSD RAM is actually soldered right onto the motherboard it's not 100
3:46 clear where it is it might be around here somewhere i don't know i'm not uh
3:51 i'm not actually able to comment on that the last thing though that i did want to
3:55 cover is that considering the thinness of this thing i o is not bad you got a
3:59 power button over here you've got two
4:02 usb type cs and would you look at that
4:06 a headphone jack huh so it turns out they can put those
4:10 things on uh you know super thin computers
4:15 so pricing is going to be uh 16.99 us
4:18 and availability is i don't know sometime in like the next little bit i
4:22 actually didn't ask but uh there you have it
4:25 so big thank you to lastpass for sponsoring this video lastpass has been
4:30 a lifesaver for us for we've been using it for well over a year now company-wide
4:35 and there's all kinds of things it's great for it's great for throwaway sites
4:39 where you sign up for an account because you like
4:42 need to read that forum reply or you need to submit a warranty replacement
4:47 and you know for a fact you are never going to remember that password so your
4:51 options are either to do a password reset every time which doesn't work if
4:56 you're say on a plane and you don't have an internet connection or whatever else or you have to reuse a password which is
5:01 literally rule number one the first thing they tell you not to do
5:06 when you're trying to be secure online reusing passwords is bad or with
5:10 lastpass you just have to remember one password and you can go in and it'll
5:13 just auto populate whether it's in a browser or on Android phones at least
5:18 it'll actually even do it within apps so you get a new phone or whatever else you
5:22 want to log into everything you just log into lastpass you fire up the app and
5:26 it'll go hey we detected that we can autofill this for you bippity boppity
5:29 two factor and you're in we've got them linked in the video description but
5:33 we've been really happy with the enterprise service that we've had
5:37 so thanks for watching guys if you disliked this video then you can hit that button but if you liked it hit that
5:42 like button get subscribed or maybe consider checking out uh
5:46 i don't know subscribe check out our other ces 2018 content it's gonna be
5:49 awesome look at that thing it's so flat
5:54 is that pcb even like thinner than usual like the keyboard just goes right
5:58 through this is it that's the keyboard
