0:06 welcome to a re-unboxing something we don't do that often this my friends is
0:11 the cooler master cm storm quickfire tk
0:14 fully backlit mechanical keyboard it has an extremely clever layout so it
0:19 delivers pretty close to a 10 keyless size so so for those of you who aren't
0:24 already sort of familiar with the terminology that goes along with
0:27 mechanical keyboard shopping 10 keyless refers to keyboards that don't have a
0:31 number pad but this one does have a number pad so what they've done is
0:36 they've used the number lock to either enable number pad functionality or
0:40 arrows num law or rather well print screen scroll lock pause insert home
0:44 page up delete end page down all that functionality you can choose whether you
0:48 have a number lock or those things which is actually kind of cool it's available
0:52 with a variety of cherry mx switches including the very reason that we are
0:57 redoing this particular unboxing because there is a new option for the quickfire
1:02 tk cherry mx green switches so the
1:06 keyboard includes a removable braided cable as well as a keycap puller and
1:10 we're going to use this as an opportunity to show you guys just
1:14 exactly what a cherry mx green switch looks like ah yes it looks like pretty
1:18 much any other cherry mx switch except for the fact that it is indeed green but
1:23 before we get into the typing impressions from both me and slick let's
1:27 do a quick recap of the overall features here so it has function keys which give
1:31 you your media playback play pause stop backwards forwards mute volume up and
1:35 volume down you've also got a Windows key lock which can be enabled by holding
1:39 function and clicking on that one you can see ah yes it has a backlight so you
1:43 can use the function key to control various types of backlightness so you
1:47 can turn it on and off you can adjust the brightness between five different
1:51 levels and it actually gets extremely bright at
1:54 the brightest level looks very very very vibrant looks quite nice and you can
1:58 choose three different modes for it so you can have it in breathing mode you
2:02 can have it in fully backlit mode and you can have it in just illuminate the
2:06 wasd keys mode the other thing to watch out for is when you press the number
2:11 lock those arrow keys illuminate that indicates that you are not number locked
2:15 which is a little bit counterintuitive i wish the num lock illuminated or
2:19 something like that when you pressed num lock and when you're in numb lock mode
2:22 it has a removable cord as well as a nice set of ergonomic options back here
2:27 so you've got nice little rubber feet on the top and bottom of the keyboard as
2:31 well as rubber tipped feet that can flip
2:34 up in order to elevate the keyboard a touch it does not come with a wrist rest
2:38 unfortunately and that is something that i would have liked to see included
2:42 however it is a fairly value conscious option in terms of pricing so you got to
2:46 just kind of remember that that comes with the territory last thing is with
2:50 function held you can press the escape key and either six or n to choose
2:55 between six key rollover which is compatible with macs and all pcs so
2:59 compatibility mode or n key rollover which allows you to press
3:03 all the keys and have them all register even over usb but not compatible with
3:08 mac and can cause some pcs to fail to boot so you can just change that mode
3:12 back if that's not working for you the last thing to cover before we get into
3:15 the typing experience is the cable management on the bottom so the
3:18 detachable cable can be routed either straight out the top or to either the
3:22 right or left side this is great for keeping your desk tidy now typing
3:25 experience let's start with the big thing about cherry mx greens i mean why
3:29 are they so rare well because they require a lot of force
3:33 to press at 80 grams of actuation force
3:37 at the actuation point that is nearly double what is required for cherry mx
3:41 browns which are a light tactile switch and cherry mx reds which are a light
3:46 linear switch so both of those are around 45 grams and it is a full 60
3:51 percent higher than the 50 grams required for cherry mx blues which are
3:56 considered to be a relatively heavy cherry switch so
4:00 with that said how does it feel for typing well for me it was too heavy just
4:05 right out of the gate i'm gonna give it a shot in the longer
4:09 term here and uh you guys can stay tuned on twitter or on the forum or whatever
4:12 else and i'll let you know if i change my mind but i found that it was just
4:16 flat out too heavy for anything but my index finger and my middle finger so for
4:20 my ring finger and pinky finger it was very unnatural for me to type on it now
4:24 i am not a great typist i rarely use my
4:28 pinky so it wouldn't have even mattered if it wasn't too difficult for me to
4:31 press with my ring finger without it feeling a little bit weird so i'm not
4:35 necessarily the best person to go okay well he had trouble typing on it so therefore it is difficult to type on
4:40 because slick tried it too and while he
4:44 didn't find it as fast as cherry mx blue switches not even by a long shot he
4:48 didn't find the typing experience physically difficult because he just has
4:52 plain old heavier stronger fingers to start with so right now we're kind of
4:58 going okay results are a mixed bag it is a different experience and it is
5:01 certainly very unique i mean it's probably the
5:05 closest we can get with a cherry mx switch to something like a buckling
5:09 spring or even more like a typewriter feel where it really feels like there's
5:12 a long sort of resisting
5:16 press before you reach that actuation point but we didn't find it to be dramatically
5:21 better than some of the other more available and less expensive switches
5:24 that are out there now i have seen reports of people saying that they
5:28 bought cherry mx green keyboards and got used to it over time but i think that'll
5:33 depend on a little bit of a long-term testing session now speaking of getting
5:36 used to things over time audible.com you guys are likely getting used to us
5:41 talking about audible but do you think you could get used to having a
5:44 subscription for a new audiobook to listen to every month
5:48 i hope so because audible.com has just such a service and like anything highly
5:52 addictive the first one is free i think we've actually talked about the hunger
5:56 games by suzanne collins being available on audible.com before but with catching
6:00 fire coming out in theaters right now this seems like a great opportunity to
6:04 bring it up again the movie is likely to be awesome but stop me if you've heard
6:08 this one before the book is always better
6:11 head on over to audible.com Linus for our free trial and to sign up for a
6:15 monthly audiobook from again that is audible.com and 10 points if you can
6:20 figure out how many times i said audible.com in the last minute or so of
6:23 this video i think we're done here guys as always
6:27 like this video if you liked it dislike it if you disliked it leave a comment and let me know what you think if you'd
6:32 like to try out cherry mx screen switches and as always guys don't forget
