today we're going to be doing an unboxing of something we've never really done on my Linus tech tips channel this
0:05
is a wireless end network camera from d-link and the biggest improvement over
0:10
previous wireless and network cameras is that they're saying it is really really
0:15
easy to use they also have this my d-link portal which enables a lot of the
0:20
ease of use feature so here's one thing
0:24
can just get this sticker off you can see this sticker was thrown onto the box
0:28
at the last minute because my d-link now supports and this is brand
0:33
new uh iphone monitoring of your camera
0:36
so you just download a little iphone app you sign into my d-link and you can use
0:40
it to monitor whatever your camera is set up to look at so you know i could
0:44
set one up at home and then if i had an iphone which i am planning to get i'm
0:49
planning to get an iphone 4 yes i know about the
0:52
reception issues etc etc but cameraman has convinced me
0:56
he has convinced me he says there are no reception issues
0:59
and uh there are no problems and and apple does everything really really well
1:04
so i'm going to be getting an iphone 4 i'm on like a waiting list for it not in
1:07
any particular hurry so why don't we have a look at some of the features of this camera it is wireless n for one
1:13
thing okay that's a feature what other features should we talk about
1:17
minimum requirements if you have a reasonably modern pc that's not going to
1:21
be an issue aha features remotely off
1:24
monitor your home or office over the internet it does it has a one lux
1:28
sensitivity sensor for low light recording okay it has a 16x digital zoom
1:33
i'm digital zoom i never really recommend using it because you can always just um
1:38
like zoom in on the image later there's no there's no need to use a digital zoom
1:43
uh wireless n built-in microphone oh it has sound recording that's pretty good
1:47
uses mjpeg i think you can read all this if you
1:50
really want to there you go
1:54
one year warranty okay let's find out what's included here is a little quick start guide tells
1:59
you how to contact their live support
2:02
okay also located inside here so there's the quick start guide there's the
2:06
warranty info presumably okay
2:11
okay something in french and then we have a start here dvd i
2:15
would actually recommend using this because the whole idea behind this thing
2:19
is that you just pop in the disc and then it all works
2:23
quickly and easily inside here we will find mounting
2:27
hardware okay so we've got some screws we've got some uh other screws and
2:32
brackets a little stand oh it's metal stand nice i assume that was gonna be
2:36
plastic but that's actually got like some you hear that it's got some heft to it
2:41
okay let's see what else we got in here we have a power adapter
2:45
that will power the camera we have two wireless n
2:50
ready antennas not that it's uh an antenna particularly needs to be
2:55
wireless and ready but there we are why don't we put that
2:58
on there so we're just gonna assemble the camera
3:01
you can see the two antennas go on the back here
3:05
um i think d-link recommends this for use with something like their dir-655
3:10
which happens to be a router that i have in my fleet so i will definitely try
3:15
this out this is a product that i will uh most
3:19
assuredly do like a uh a video showing you guys exactly how
3:24
well it works so that you don't have to spend your hard earned cash
3:28
on it without uh without knowing that it's awesome
3:33
and i'm also just kind of curious too because i've never used an ip camera
3:37
before it's a growing category i mean people
3:41
who just want home security or if they want how the heck does this work
3:46
speaking of ease of use
3:52
okay the assembly process appears to have run into a bit of a snag
3:56
so why don't we just look at the camera itself and we'll forget the assembly process we'll do that off camera so
4:00
we've also got an Ethernet port at the back that's 100 Ethernet which is all
4:03
you really need for a camera like this there's your power over here we have wps
4:08
so that means that if you have a wps supporting router all you have to do is
4:11
press the two buttons you don't have to bother with wireless passwords or anything like that
4:16
it'll automatically sync up there's a reset hole right here also some
4:20
ventilation slots in the top so let's assume there's something in there that's
4:23
producing a little bit of heat there's some disclaimers here about
4:27
class b digital apparatus as well as some more ventilation holes on this side
4:31
there are screws at the back for disassembling it there's another way to
4:35
mount the stand which i guess would be why you'd have it
4:38
straight up okay and then finally we look at the front of the camera itself
4:42
so there's your microphone hole this is going to be some kind of uh power
4:46
indicator led and then there's the lens itself which turns for some reason
4:52
i hope i'm not ruining it you know there's not a whole lot to say
4:55
in an unboxing of a camera which is why anytime we've done unboxings with
4:58
cameras in the past we always include uh some performance for it so uh stay tuned
5:03
we're definitely gonna show you how this camera performs and i actually did see a
5:07
live demo when our d-link rep came in to my work ncix cameraman if you want to
5:11
check out the office so we're just outside the office right now and he did
5:14
show one of these cameras set up in their office and he just
5:19
showed it to us on his iphone and it was actually pretty cool someone walked past
5:23
and it was pretty fluid so yeah stay tuned don't forget to subscribe
