0:00 the accepted wisdom for a long time has been that if you want a truly enthusiast
0:05 class typing or gaming experience you need a mechanical keyboard and with
0:11 features like superior build quality satisfying tactile feedback and quicker
0:16 response times perhaps there was only one thing that
0:20 could actually have made them even better and that would be freaking laser
0:25 beams
0:35 ek waterblox's all-aluminum fluid gaming
0:39 lineup offers great custom grade water cooling performance for an affordable
0:44 price learn more at the link in the video description
0:47 optical key switches like the ones that we are looking at today promise
0:51 extremely quick response times and shorter actuation distances than popular
0:56 mechanical key switches from manufacturers like cherry
1:00 but for some reason they remain a niche item the fact that the big boys of
1:05 current keyboard manufacturing like Corsair and logitech haven't picked them
1:09 up yet probably isn't helping
1:13 so we turned to bloody tesoro and wooting the only three companies we
1:17 could find that are currently incorporating them into their keyboards
1:21 to see if this technology has a bright future let's start with a quick look at
1:25 how they work currently there are two main types of optical switches one uses
1:30 a plunger that blocks a beam of light and when the key is pressed a gap in the
1:34 plunger moves down and allows the light beam to hit a sensor that registers a
1:40 key press two of our keyboards the bloody b720 and the tesoro excalibur se
1:45 spectrum use this process with the bloody switches branded as light strike
1:51 abbreviated as lk for some reason while the tesoro uses
1:57 swappable switches from gatoron gataron
2:00 gaturon either way both keyboards incorporate
2:03 waterproofing as well a nice value for you mountain dew fanatics the second
2:08 main type flaretech instead uses an upwards firing beam to determine how far
2:13 downward the key has been pressed meaning instead of simply registering a
2:18 key as pressed or not the keyboard can
2:22 instead register a partial key press
2:25 similar to how an analog trigger on a game controller can be pushed only part
2:30 way down to accelerate a little bit more slowly than a full press in a driving
2:35 game so our third keyboard the wu ting one is available with these flaretech
2:41 switches in two flavors red linear switches or blue clicky ones which are
2:46 user swappable and we'll start with a closer look at this one wuting actually
2:51 markets this granular level of input sensitivity control as analog which is
2:56 not technically correct because the keyboard is really just registering one
3:01 of 256 distinct states of pushed
3:04 downness but for the sake of helping users understand the tech we see why
3:09 they did this and in practice the action is very smooth i doubt that most users
3:13 would actually even be able to notice the difference let's demonstrate how this works with
3:18 forza 3. here you can see how pushing down the keys that are mapped to the
3:23 steering wheel only part way results in a much more gradual turn while a gentler
3:29 throttle press also allows finer control over acceleration neat huh
3:34 you'll also find a surprising amount of customizability in wooting one's
3:37 software package which is called and no do not adjust your headphones you heard
3:42 me right wutility not only can you remap keys to
3:46 functionality like triggers on a gamepad but you can set up multiple analog
3:51 profiles with different sensitivity curves since you might want the keys to
3:55 react differently depending on whether you're piloting a tank in battlefield or
4:01 controlling a soccer player footballer in fifa something to note is
4:06 that this analog functionality doesn't actually kick in until after the two
4:11 millimeter actuation distance which is similar to most cherry mx switches so
4:16 while wooting is looking into the ability to build a hair trigger capable
4:21 version in the future for now the utility can only be used to
4:25 make the actuation distance longer if you prefer less sensitivity in
4:31 something like a turn based game or if you're just
4:34 typing and of course all this additional functionality doesn't mean the wu ting
4:39 one is automatically the best option in every scenario let's move on to the
4:44 bloody b720 its lk switches lack the
4:48 fancy analog functionality but it boasts a very short actuation distance of 1.5
4:55 millimeters the shortest of any of the keyboards in our roundup to see if
4:59 there's a tangible benefit we had our resident cs go wizard edsel test out
5:04 each of the keyboards and while he didn't feel that the wooting or tesoro
5:09 were appreciably different from common cherry mx reds he really liked the quick
5:15 response of the bloody saying that while
5:18 the difference wasn't huge it definitely
5:21 was noticeable kind of like going from a 144 to a 240hz monitor in his words and
5:28 we didn't even tell him the actuation point specs before he tried it out so
5:33 give bloody some credit here they're claimed to have the world's fastest key
5:37 response might just be true at least when
5:40 comparing to other optical solutions the mx speeds claim a slightly shorter
5:45 actuation distance at 1.2 millimeters
5:49 and although edsel didn't think this made a difference in game responsiveness
5:54 he did think the lk switches were a bit heavier so keep that in mind if you use
5:59 a light touch on your keyboard and this leads us into our impressions
6:04 of overall build quality and usability in our opinion the wooting one walked
6:08 away the clear winner in this department its deck is quite rigid which often
6:13 indicates a well-made keyboard and its understated brushed finish and subtle
6:17 logo at the bottom give it a higher end appearance not to mention i really liked
6:22 how this thing felt under my fingers it was soft but in a good way kind of like
6:27 typing on boobs for whatever it's worth and then when you use the clicky
6:30 switches it was sharp and satisfying the
6:34 bloody with its giant blood-soaked logo
6:37 on the other hand practically screams we
6:40 tried to make this look as gamer as possible at any cost
6:44 and the keys felt a bit mushy for my liking though ed didn't seem to mind so
6:49 that's something to note and the build quality overall seemed solid if
6:53 unexceptional unfortunately i can't say the same about the tesoro i was able to
6:58 twist the keyboard way too much even with a minimal amount of torque maybe
7:02 that's what they meant by break the rules at 92 dollars it isn't a bad piece
7:07 of hardware it just simply doesn't do anything better than the other two the
7:11 bloody however presents an interesting alternative to mx speed switches thanks
7:15 to its very competitive price of 75 bucks u.s
7:20 the wu ting one is by far the most interesting one we checked out today
7:25 possessing a unique feature set with solid build quality and customizability
7:30 but i would probably only shell out the
7:34 160 euros it'll cost you if the games
7:38 you play specifically benefit from their pseudo analog functionality or if you
7:42 want a typing experience that matches your tacky mouse mat
7:47 if you were to go get tunnelbear right now you could actually have it turned on
7:52 and working by the time i finished telling you why it's awesome it is that
7:56 simple to use you basically press one button and boom your connection is
8:01 secured and your online activity is kept private from your internet provider
8:06 advertisers and the websites that you use and of course there's the added
8:11 benefit of being able to select any country you want so you can use websites
8:16 and online services like streaming video players as though you are from a
8:21 different country tunnelbear has a top-rated privacy
8:26 policy and does not log your activity and you can even try it for free to
8:31 experience what a more open internet might be like with 500 megabytes of data
8:37 with no credit card required and then once you choose to get a year of
8:42 unlimited data you can save ten percent on that by going to tunnelbear.com
8:47 LTT thanks for watching guys this video

9:06 there's also a merch store link for some cool shirts that aren't this one
9:11 anyway yeah check out this video which is uh
9:16 seeing the first video i ever made which was on my own and it never got uploaded
9:21 anywhere and it was on a ducky keyboard from like way back my mom filled it
9:25 filmed it on a flip hd camera in our kitchen at the time
9:29 see you later
