0:08 Welcome to my unboxing and first look at the Gauntlet Node from Patriot. This is
0:13 and cameraman. Okay, cameraman insists that I tell you guys that he did not
0:18 understand what this product did based on the packaging and I sort of actually
0:22 see his point. So, it streams wireless music, videos, and pictures. Um, tablet
0:27 friendly up to two terabyte drive not included. Google Play available on the
0:31 app store unless until you get down to sort of the finer sort of details here.
0:36 Up to eight simultaneous mobile devices. Tablet friendly. Up to two TB hard drive
0:40 included. Okay, these are all the same things we've seen already. Um, okay. I
0:43 kind of see cameraman's point. However, maybe when we get to the back, we will
0:47 understand like more better. Uh, the Gauntlet Node offers seamless
0:51 integration with tablets and other popular mobile devices for a truly superior portable storage solution. Aha!
0:56 Portable storage for your tablet or your phone or other mobile device with the
1:01 ability to connect up to eight devices at a time and app support for iOS,
1:04 Android, and Kindle Fire and plug-and-play compatibility with Windows-based operating systems. The
1:08 Gauntlet Node provides an extremely robust and easy to use personal cloud
1:12 for immediate access to stored media and data. With a built-in battery, the
1:15 Gauntlet Node will support up to 5.5 hours of continuous streaming for the
1:18 ultimate entertainment solution on the go. Wi-Fi N 150 megabit per second uh
1:23 web and WPAPS key security is supported
1:26 non-replaceable battery up to 5.5 hours of continuous streaming. So what is this
1:30 thing? This is basically like a free agent Goflex satellite except that you
1:34 don't actually have to buy a free agent gooflex satellite. It's also like uh
1:38 Kingston's wide drive. So what you do is
1:42 you you know get all your accessories and hoo-ha and ddads and whatnot going
1:47 on here. So, you got all your components and you take your 2 and 1/2 in drive,
1:54 which is here. You install it in here.
1:58 You use a USB connection to drop whatever data you want onto the
2:04 drive. That there. Okay. Oh, it's USB 3. Oh, awesome.
2:10 That's way better than the free agent Gooflex. Actually, that one's USB 2,
2:14 which makes it like slow and inconvenient to actually load things on it. So, it comes uh hold on. See, how
2:21 does this work? Oh, there we go. Oh, that was easy. It's just a sliding
2:24 thing. Okay. So, you throw your drive in here. You install your drive. All the uh
2:29 the battery. See the battery? You can feel where the battery is cuz it weighs a lot on this side. Batteries here.
2:33 Wireless chipsets and all that are there. Data connections
2:36 here. Uh you got your aha power USB
2:41 connection. So, that's how you charge it. And uh it goes in there like that.
2:45 You've also got uh just a dedicated power in. I guess that might also charge
2:50 it. I don't know. Something probably charges it. Uh comes with an adapter for
2:55 USB. So you Yeah. Okay. It looks like you can You know what? Why don't we just
2:59 find out how to charge this thing? All right. So, we figured it out. your Asian
3:04 powered devices AC adapter, which you can unplug like that, plugs in by USB to
3:10 either the dedicated charging port or
3:14 the USB 3 port, and it will charge it either way. So, don't worry too much
3:18 about it. In fact, it's mindboggling to me that they even bothered to include a
3:21 DC in. But um yeah, I mean I I guess uh if you're
3:27 transferring data from your notebook and you don't want to power the drive off
3:30 your notebook and then you plug this into the wall next to your notebook, but
3:33 then that's not a very mobile solution. If you're using a notebook on a battery, you probably don't have um a wall
3:39 charger nearby. So, okay. Okay. Cameraman's shaking his head at me because apparently that's pretty
3:43 farfetched. So, let's go ahead and take this apart. Uh there's your power. No,
3:48 not power. Something else. Oh, that might check your battery. that battery
3:52 life indicator. So, you got four little LEDs there. That's kind of neat.
3:57 Okay, so there you have it. 5 and a half hours of battery life. We're going to
4:01 have to actually try the app before we can determine. So, so wait, stay tuned
4:04 for our full NCX tech tips on this one where we actually try it out. And uh I
4:09 think that pretty much covers it. That's the Gauntlet Node from Patriot. Don't forget to subscribe for tech tips for
4:13 unboxings, reviews, and other computer videos. And this goes in there.
