0:00 Linus Tech tips coverage of CES 2014 is brought to you by nc.com your source for
0:05 great technology selection and service along with Corsair memory and Western
0:09 Digital hey guys we're here at the toby and steel series Booth checking out the
0:12 steel series it tracker with technology by Toby so we've talked about this on
0:16 the W show ey tracking all that kind of stuff but now that we're actually at the booth what can you tell me about this
0:21 device so this is an ey tracker and Steelers have decided to to launch an
0:27 gaming ey tracker this year uh in the middle of 2014
0:30 so there going to come in gaming peripheral to the to the gaming Market
0:34 in the middle of 2014 and what we're doing now is basically we're opening up
0:38 to the dev Community to really make it possible for developers to start
0:41 developing based on this device so this is a dev kit that people can order now
0:46 on our website and they can start developing right now and make amazing new games that sounds good and and just
0:51 so that people can play around with it to begin with you guys said uh developed
0:54 for 50 to 100 games or is that coming later or how's that going no so we can
0:59 make from from our side we're going to make when when the devices launch we're
1:03 going to make integration from the outside to around about 50 to 100 games
1:08 but right now we're reaching out to developers to make Source integration in
1:11 their own game so then then they can get this dev kit with an SDK and they they
1:15 can start start developing this is one of those things where developers need to
1:18 get behind it because direct interaction with the game is while they can make
1:22 some of it it will always usually be better if it's purely integrated by the
1:26 game developer so I think that's what you guys are going for they have a few demos here one of them is World of
1:30 Warcraft which I'm sure you guys will see soon but it it's cool seeing him
1:34 Target things and run around with pressing very minimal amounts of buttons
1:38 what's your favorite part about this and what's your favorite part about the window side as well so the key thing the
1:43 key concept here is basically that a gamer will sit with one hand on the
1:46 mouse one hand on a keyboard and what it suddenly gets with an eye tracker is an
1:50 an ex extra way to communicate with the game because the computer knows where
1:54 you're looking so basically you get another pointer so that increases the
1:58 communication band with with the game in the game so then you can Target things
2:02 or you can imagine in FIFA or football game you would just like look at the
2:05 player who to pass the ball to press a button and there you go the other huge
2:09 thing I think is going to be immersion so when I look at you you know when I
2:13 look at that person he know so maybe Smiles or get pissed I don't know but
2:17 but you know if you walk into a say a bar in a game the characters are a
2:20 little bit dead today but now you can really look at the character and they
2:24 come to instant life so they would just walk up to you start talking to you or
2:28 you look at somebody's money person they get p so you can really create fantastic new
2:33 immersion concepts with eye tracking because the real world really reacts to
2:36 your eyes I could really see this for RPG and horror games so like an RPG game
2:41 like you were saying staring at someone's money purse they're not going to like that because they're going to
2:44 wonder what you're up to in a horror game if you start looking at something too closely then it could jump out at
2:48 you and freak you out just stuff like that is actually really interesting because it adds a whole another layer to
2:52 games something could be developed purely around this so someone who's trying to look for an idea for a game
2:57 you could make it completely around the the the trer because like I just said
3:01 with the uh the horror game thing I don't know how else you could integrate
3:04 that without ey tracking to for it to really work properly instead of just
3:07 like okay your character is standing generally in front of it so we're going to make a jump at you now suddenly you
3:12 get the concept of this and that in a game so you can kind of do something
3:16 with this or I'm interested there and you're what you really look is a very
3:20 good um prediction what you think about and that's obviously a fantastic thing
3:24 to have in a game so what are some of the ideas that you guys have come up
3:28 with I know we just saw targeting and wow like I know there's something to do
3:31 with the mini map and Starcraft too can you describe that yeah in Starcraft we
3:34 do well it's pretty tedious to go down to the mini map up and down all the time
3:38 but what you can do is basically you just press a button you get the minimap blown up over your screen you look at
3:42 where you want to take take the take the view and you release so it's a much
3:47 faster way of integrating mini map and not to mention that you don't have to lose control of your army now uh I'm not
3:53 necessarily A Dev but I purchased into the Oculus dev kit so if someone out
3:57 there just wanted to kind of play with this and around with it in the meantime could they pick this up and how much
4:01 would that cost them you can go into our website so Toby to
4:06 i/i and then an x on the end they can go
4:09 in there and they can purchase it for $95 and then they get the hardware
4:13 device plug in with the USB and a dev kit and a Dev forum and documentation
4:16 Etc right and they they could start playing around certain games immediately
4:20 or yeah we going to have a certain examples with it but there's not going
4:23 to be games immediately when you order right now but it's going to be at the at
4:27 the launch of the real product basically cool so you could still show it off and
4:30 play with it and all that kind of stuff which sounds extremely fun thank you for showing us the Toby if you want to see
