0:00 Linus Tech Tips coverage of Computex 2013 is powered by Western Digital. Our
0:04 trusted gaming gear partner is Corsair Vengeance and our trusted retail partner
0:08 is ncx.com. Okay, so okay, come on. Help me
0:12 out with this. Okay, so 13's unlucky. Okay, 13 is missing. And then four is
0:18 unlucky. Four is 14. Why do you have 14 then? You know, it's kind of ridiculous.
0:23 It's like the place my parents live. They have no 13th floor, no floors with
0:27 four in them, but then it goes up to 40 floors. So they have 40, 41, 42. It's
0:34 like you don't just get to make up new rules. So our room here at the Sherwood
0:39 is awesome. Check this out. There's like a place to sit that it. Okay. No, the
0:45 place to sit makes no sense, but it's like I don't know. You could if you had
0:48 like a really small person, then you'd have like an maybe it's like a dog bed.
0:53 I think it's like a romantic thing. romantic where you'd like have a couple
0:56 sit well the bed's over there if they want the romance. Uh then we've got our
1:00 closet. So that's where the safe is including a romantic house
1:06 coat. Oh, please don't open the main switch. Got it. Okay. Toilets aren't The
1:10 toilet's huge. The bathroom's huge. So
1:13 this is this is sort of different because Oh, another romantic house coat.
1:18 So Oh, whoa. Okay. So, you could have two people showering in this bathroom at
1:22 the same time, but one of them would be expected to kind of do this and then the
1:28 other one would be expected to go in the actual standup shower. So, it has both a
1:31 bath and a shower and an additional shower for the bath, but only one sink,
1:36 mind you. So, you you wouldn't get sort of too many too many sort of people in
1:41 here at the same time. Although, one person could be on the heated can. So,
1:47 there's power save functionality, seat heat, and seat
1:53 sensor. And then, uh, there's a control
1:56 panel on the left. Oh, control panel. Yeah, there we go. Okay.
2:00 So, what happens if we press the thing?
2:07 I think you have to be on it. You have to be on it for it to work. Yeah, it has
2:10 sensors. It has sensors. Well, what if you like what if you I guess it's
2:15 probably pretty powerful. They don't want you using it as like a drinking fountain. Yeah, cuz it can squirt over
2:20 the seat.
2:24 Oh, okay. Here we go. So, next we've got two
2:31 queen beds, which is much better than our arrangement at CES where we had to
2:36 have four people sharing two queen beds. Now we have two people sharing two queen
2:39 beds, which is awesome. I'm sharing a room with B-roll. Got our TV. Got our
2:44 little cabinet here with the presumably ludicrously expensive Ah, yes. Pringles.
2:48 I'm almost afraid to touch them just because they'll probably be poisoned.
2:54 Um, and then well, no, not poisoned, but they'll be expensive. And oh, oh, our
2:58 breakfast menu, which is brilliant because uh our breakfast is covered for
3:03 us every day except the days of the Computex show. So, we're like, well,
3:07 we're here for Computex. They're like, "Oh, well then you get breakfast on this
3:10 one day." Oh, okay. That makes sense. Here's our desk. Here is our window.
3:15 Here is B-roll's chair.
3:19 And this is my chair. Boom. This is
3:22 actually a super super comfy chair. And
3:25 uh that's pretty much it. That's our room. It's actually super super nice.
3:30 So, uh, those butttheads left the hotel
3:35 without us cuz we're running behind them.
3:38 And they didn't give us the note at the hotel, so we have no idea where they are
3:43 now. We're supposed to be finding Taiwan Cellular Corp, but
3:50 like I don't know. We're in the spot now
3:54 and it's not here.
3:59 Yeah.
4:05 Great. So, we're lost. Yeah, basically.
4:08 Okay. Oh, so apparently this store is closed
4:13 like forever. Thank you. Like forever. I I I don't know. He was
4:18 just like, "Yeah, they're gone." So, okay. How can a hotel not have that
4:22 updated already? I don't know. And apparently that's where they send Slick
4:26 and Diesel. So then they must be just wandering.
4:30 You have got to be kidding me. This is a great start. Have I told you how great a
4:35 start this is?
4:38 So here we are in Taipei. It's
4:42 6:55. Yep. And everything is closed.
4:46 We're trying to buy SIM cards. Oh, there's a card. We We don't really know
4:51 how things work here. No, it's like really confusing.
4:55 Oh, he beat us pretty. Okay. And yeah, apparently he went the other way.
5:03 Okay, we should go to 7-Eleven now. We go to 7-Eleven. Why? Because I
5:08 think it's the only store that's going to be open and it's really, really humid, so we want drinks. Yeah. Rule
5:14 number one, stay hydrated.
5:19 Where we are, folks. Um, we got some like egg things going on here. And it
5:24 looks like you kind of make your own uh sort of delicious thing. We got some
5:28 like hot dogs. This is This isn't really that
5:33 different. Seafood wraps or seaweed wraps of some sort. Yeah. Yep. All look
5:39 good, actually. 7-Eleven. So, this is new. Well, we got
5:44 another note. We are in our room. We assumed you
5:49 would stay here lol. So, we've been on a a wild goose chase. How long we walked
5:55 like away from 7-Eleven? Where's their Where's their room? 1401.
6:10 Hello. Hi. Hi. Did you guys find SIM
6:13 cards? No, we couldn't get in. Did Did you like how the uh the directions were
6:17 to a place that the guy told us is like gone? What? Yeah.
6:22 So So we went down there, then we're like, "Oh, well, they're from North
6:26 America. Maybe they gravitated towards the 7-Eleven." You did? I
6:31 knew someone who's actually less adventurous than me. Can you walk me
6:35 through the uh foreign delicacies that you have on your plate here?
6:40 Uh I have uh what they call back over
6:43 here. Backan. Yeah. Back. And waffla.
6:47 Yeah. Uhhuh. And what were
6:51 these? Sauti. Sauti. Patas. Potatoes.
6:56 Okay. And this was salagas. Wow. Cool. Diesel,
7:02 can you explain to me why you did this?
7:09 Well, I thought I would clean up this mess because the guy who did it Linus.
7:14 Uh, sorry. Did you say slick? No, I said
7:18 Linus. Slick. Why would you put sausages in miso soup? You did. Yeah, that I
7:24 think this video record will prove that uh it was you.
7:35 Okay, so we're heading for the second tallest building in the world. I got
7:39 Jason from WD who is of course uh taking
7:42 pictures with someone else's cell phone other than mine. Hello. Thanks, man. Can
7:48 you want to get the building? Take you. Oh, gotcha. Just playing video right
7:52 now. Cool. So, yeah, we're going to head up there, which will be pretty exciting.
7:58 The highest I've ever been is uh hotel in Vegas, which was not this high.
8:05 Cool. I guess if I say the highest I've ever been is at a hotel in Vegas, that
8:08 could be interpreted sort of the wrong way, but Oh, Taipei 101. Slick. The only
8:14 building taller than you.
8:18 Uh, how do we get there? I'm assuming go up. Going up a tall building. Tall
8:22 building. Up as opposed to down.
8:29 Slick. How are your ears doing in the world's fastest elevator?
8:34 I can't see the thing tracking how quickly we're going there.
8:39 1,000 m per minute. That is quite the uh
8:47 My ears popped like multiple times on the way up here.
8:52 Is that healthy? Oh, it's probably fine.
8:55 So, there is bigger not that big. It's pretty cool, I guess. Yeah. No big deal.
9:00 Holy crap. It's cool because how the building's built, it comes out on an
9:04 angle. So when you look over, it feels like you're actually leaning over the
9:08 edge because it comes in. That is very
9:11 disorienting. I mean, that right there
9:15 must be like what a 30story building.
9:18 And this is just makes it look
9:21 stupid. You can see
9:25 everywhere. Sorry. Can Can you tell me can you tell me how normal this is? this
9:29 vibration we're feeling right now. This is my first time.
9:34 Okay. So, so the staff here on Taipei
9:37 101 is very reassuring. Everyone seems to be kind of heading for the elevator
9:41 over there.
9:50 Wow. Let's go. Okay, we can go.
9:55 There's like people running around with like messages and stuff.
10:00 It's funny cuz we were just in there talking about how the damper made it so
10:04 we couldn't feel anything.
10:09 All the elevators. We just earthquake inside.
10:15 Please be patient and wait for our next instruction. We thank you for your
10:20 understanding. to go down. WD wants to go down. I think
10:24 we're going down. So, we're going down 89 flights of stairs.
10:32 Nope. Nope. We're not going down any stairs.
10:40 Really? Even even
10:44 if we have earthquakes.
10:48 Sure. You know what's crazy is that's my
10:51 first time. We've had probably four or five earthquakes in Vancouver in my
10:54 life. That's the first time I've ever actually felt an earthquake. Felt an earthquake before. Yeah. I've always
10:59 slept through them or something. Okay. All the buildings in Taipei.
11:06 The biggest building in Taipei. That is awesome.
11:12 Oh, we're down on the lower level of the damper observatory.
11:16 Oh, I wish we'd been looking at the damper when uh our timing was almost
11:21 perfect. Yeah. Yeah. No, the after the aftershock is coming for sure, right?
11:24 Yes. So, it should be good. I'm just going to hide behind this dude. It's
11:28 funny because if you get him from the right angle, he looks really unhappy.
11:32 See, check this out. It's
11:35 like anything. Yeah, we're not allowed
11:38 to move. Apparently broken. The fastest elevator in the world is
11:42 broken. Is it broken or is they just not let us
11:48 They're not letting us walk down either. So, we're basically stuck in this building. See that? I don't Tell me how
11:52 you feel about traveling all the way around the world. I'm totally emailing
11:56 your mom and telling her there was an
11:59 earthquake more. Yeah. Uh yeah, Slick
12:03 Slick's mom is already super mad at me for letting him go halfway around the
12:06 world. So, uh the fact that we were 101 stories up during an earthquake is going
12:11 to really thrill her. You know, she follows me on Twitter. I think I just
12:14 have to tweet. Who she's going to kill? She's going to kill you, not me. That's
12:17 true. So, you're down. So, here. Let's just This I'm fine
12:22 for now. So, that was a 6.5 earthquake and this
12:27 is the line to go down.
12:30 So, I think I think we're here for a bit. I think we should buy some jewelry
12:34 and So, the entire team is getting uh
12:38 haircuts so that we look nice and slick for tomorrow. So, we have no idea what's
12:43 going on, but Albert from WD here is uh
12:47 guiding us guiding us through the process. And uh B-roll, he's Albert is
12:52 his new favorite person because they've been talking shop about cameras and
12:56 lenses and stuff I barely even understood the whole time they were talking. So, we've been told to relax
13:01 while we wait for our haircut. So, we got some pretty stylish chairs and they
13:05 brought a refreshing beverage. So, so it's a paper cup, but it comes in
13:11 a nice little plastic holder. I don't know what it is. It's
13:15 yellow. I hope it's not for like haircuts.
13:22 Okay. We're making sure the temperature is just right for
13:32 not not too picky. Lennis, how you want it? Um,
13:37 which shaved? No, not not shaved.
13:42 Just shorter in general. You know what? Whatever. Uh, whatever
13:47 they think is
13:52 But, but I need them to show me how to, you know, how to style it properly
13:55 after. He's taking a video. Yeah. So, this is
14:00 Diesel getting his eyebrow shaped to look his best while we're uh while we're
14:04 at the show there. Yeah. Let me get out of the way so you can get a better angle.
14:08 You know how to censor stuff. Sorry.
14:12 Yep. Yeah. There's nothing he can do right now cuz there's a straight edge
14:16 like an inch from his face or touching
14:19 it. She's really good with it. Yeah, she is. Yeah.
14:23 No, I I barely even felt the straight edge on on
