0:00 here in front of me i've got the aorus x9
0:05 the thinnest lightest most powerful and
0:09 perhaps most RGB 1070 sli laptop ever
0:14 as for whether anyone was actually asking for an RGB 1070 sli laptop
0:24 but maybe this is one of those things that we didn't know we wanted until we
0:28 had one or maybe it isn't
0:32 the only thing i know for sure is that sennheiser gives you the best their pxc
0:37 550 wireless headphones feature up to 30 hours of battery life noise guard hybrid
0:42 adaptive noise cancellation and more learn more at the link below
0:54 consider the lamborghini veneno it's not everyone's favorite lamborghini
0:58 aesthetically but like it's still a lambo and the styling of
1:03 the aorus x9 is similarly polarizing
1:07 other than the muted black exterior it's one of the most gamery looking laptops
1:12 that's been through the lab in a while meaning that it'll definitely turn heads
1:16 at your next lan event but showing up to a meeting with this
1:20 would be about like showing up to a hockey game in a wetsuit some kinds of
1:24 head turning aren't necessarily positive i do have to give it points for build
1:28 quality though the aluminum around the keyboard and the chassis itself are both
1:33 extremely rigid and at 7.9 pounds it's
1:36 not the easiest thing to carry but it's not unreasonable given its power and it
1:42 makes it so that it's not going to move around accidentally on your desk plus
1:46 it's got enough io on it to make it look like the flying spaghetti monster if you
1:50 actually plug everything in that's something you can't take for granted
1:53 these days and this over-the-top build philosophy
1:57 makes its way to the internals as well
2:00 our model sports a core i7 7820 hk 32
2:04 gigs of ddr4 RAM two 512 gig NVMe ssds
2:10 not configured in raid on our model curiously and two gtx 1070 gpus
2:17 this is a really unusual graphics
2:21 configuration the disadvantage is you've
2:24 got to deal with the usual performance scaling and power issues that are
2:28 associated with sli the potential advantage is higher frame
2:33 rates than a gtx 1080 currently the best
2:36 performing single mobile GPU in supported games and then maybe the
2:41 ability to spread out your heat generating components to make it thinner
2:46 on the subject of heat generating components the i7 7820 hk CPU is
2:51 notorious for overloading the thermals of basically every laptop that we've
2:56 tested it in even that water-cooled one from ASUS
3:00 so then has Gigabyte's four-fan design been able to tame the beast
3:04 at stock clocks actually yes
3:08 i mean it's a thin and light for what it is notebook
3:11 so it wasn't particularly quiet but it also doesn't have an annoying tone to
3:16 the sound and the CPU maxed out at around 75 degrees while maintaining 3.5
3:21 gigahertz turbo on all four cores this is a great result let's move on to
3:25 gaming performance this one is a bit of a mixed bag since
3:29 the year is now 2017
3:33 and sli scaling is as inconsistent as
3:36 it's ever been at its best the arsx 9 with its two 8
3:41 gig gtx 1070s destroys a desktop with a 1080
3:47 but at its worst it actually gets beaten
3:50 by a max-q gtx 1070 in a laptop a
3:55 quarter its weight due to sli driver nonsense and yes we double checked that
4:01 result so this is kind of disappointing for
4:05 prospective buyers but it's also expected and without giving away too
4:09 much about our conclusion for this video it reinforces our belief that a single
4:14 better GPU is in the vast majority of cases
4:18 a better option than two lesser ones even at 4k resolution
4:24 though that's nothing against the x9s display
4:27 it's got a matte finish it comes with x right pantone calibration out of the box
4:32 and looks really good though with that said i would personally
4:37 have gone for the 1440p 120 hertz version which is a wva
4:42 rather than an ips display but would deliver a much smoother gaming
4:46 experience without again this is in my opinion giving up anything meaningful in
4:51 terms of image sharpness i'm really glad that Gigabyte has that option now the
4:56 keyboard has custom mechanical switches with a long travel but i can't say that
5:01 i really enjoy typing on them the tactile bump feels more like a tactile
5:06 hitch which means that unless you press pretty
5:09 hard naturally you might find yourself missing keystrokes from time to time
5:13 i personally wish that they had stuck to something more like what is on the aero
5:17 15x that one is a much better keyboard for
5:21 both typing and gaming in my opinion the good news though is that the quality of
5:25 the trackpad is similar here and you get a bonus falcon graphic on it it has
5:30 solid tracking and a tactile feel in the click even though it does seem a bit
5:35 small given the size of the rest of the laptop flipping the x9 over to open it up i
5:40 will admit that the way that they made a bird out of the vents looks pretty darn
5:45 slick whatever i might have said aesthetically earlier and then that
5:49 taking it off reveals a completely free two and a half inch drive bay two empty
5:54 sodium slots two filled m.2 slots a very
5:58 generous application or thermal compound and a very high capacity
6:03 94.2 watt hour battery that would give you great battery life
6:08 on a less power hungry machine as for the x9 well
6:13 let's just say it's a gaming laptop so those leds under the logo well you can
6:18 set them to things like fan speed or CPU
6:21 or GPU temps but you should probably use them to monitor the battery
6:26 the webcam is pretty good and it includes a feature called smart cam
6:29 which allows you to remove the background while you're streaming like
6:32 this guy from the reviewer's guide and you can tell he's really pumped on
6:36 smartcam and the speakers though this is somewhat predictable on a larger machine
6:40 sounded pretty darn good so it's not bad
6:44 it's just a little misconfigured the x9 as it is next to me here costs 3
6:49 800 us dollars and with a lower resolution and higher
6:54 refresh rate display maybe a 1080
6:57 a single SSD to save a buck and then maybe we could drop some of the RAM it
7:02 might still fall behind the ASUS g701vi
7:05 in terms of its bang for the buck but it would be thinner and much sexier
7:10 than that one with a more sensible display as it is unless you only play a
7:15 couple of games that you know are super well optimized for sli
7:19 and you value resolution over refresh
7:22 rate the ars x9 doesn't make the most
7:26 sense but what might make sense for you is
7:30 checking out skillshare skillshare is an online learning community with more than
7:34 17 000 classes in design photos and more and their premium
7:39 membership gives you unlimited access to high quality classes from experts
7:43 working in their fields so you can improve your skills unlock new
7:47 opportunities and do the work that you love they've got great classes on things
7:51 including video editing writing and technology and skillshare is also more
7:55 affordable than most learning platforms out there an annual subscription is less
7:58 than 10 bucks a month and the first 200 people to use the promo link in the
