0:00 recently NVIDIA's ceo jensen huang said
0:03 that for the holiday season and the
0:06 foreseeable future i think pascal is
0:09 just unbeatable we assumed he meant on the very high end
0:13 where AMD hasn't even teased an upcoming competitor but i guess he probably
0:18 already knew then that the gtx 1070 ti
0:22 was on its way but what is this
0:26 an exciting new offering or just a transparent attempt by NVIDIA to get all
0:31 the press including us talking about them by repackaging existing tech to
0:36 secure their market share while vega availability is low
0:41 so we're going to show you some performance numbers but only after we
0:45 talk about the bs that NVIDIA is pulling
0:48 with this launch and after you listen to this word from
0:53 our sponsor mac weldon mac weldon believes in smart design premium fabrics

1:13 looking at the spec sheet gtx 1070 ti has more in common with the 1080 than it
1:19 does with the 1070. it has the same core clock the same TDP just a touch fewer
1:25 cuda cores and in fact all it has in common with the 1070 is the name
1:31 and memory configuration even visually
1:34 it's almost identical to a gtx 1080
1:37 founders edition same cooler same shroud
1:41 same overall length and width same power
1:44 connector i mean for all intents and purposes this card feels more like a
1:49 binned 1080 with cheaper gddr5 rather
1:52 than gddr5x memory and given how quickly
1:56 it's been brought to market by the look of things it probably is
2:00 but just because the product is a familiar face with a mustache and a
2:05 funny wig doesn't mean the business practices are
2:09 anything we've seen before so in the past
2:12 founders editions were more expensive
2:16 presumably to avoid competing with board partners that are building custom
2:20 solutions like ASUS evga and MSI
2:23 but this time the msrps are the same
2:29 now there's nothing legally or even ethically wrong with this but it's known
2:35 in the biz as a dick move and while
2:38 consumers might not care about that i mean lower prices is better right
2:43 this next one is a similar grade kick in
2:47 their teeth do you guys remember green light NVIDIA's program limiting
2:52 overclocking friendly partner designs with unlocked voltages
2:56 well they are tightening their fist even further
3:00 board partners are apparently now being
3:03 told that they can no longer sell cards with a factory overclocked BIOS
3:08 installed NVIDIA i'm sure you know this already but this
3:13 is a big load of bullsh i mean look at poor evga's website
3:19 everything from a base blower card to a
3:22 water cooled card ships with exactly the same clock speeds and the rumor going
3:28 around from even reputable sources like pc purse ryan shrout is that not only is
3:34 every card clocked the same out of the box relying on GPU boost for any
3:39 performance gains and from my understanding these vendors
3:43 aren't even allowed to bend the parts right so the higher end
3:47 cards don't get the best gpus necessarily it's kind of
3:51 more luck of the draw here what i mean what
3:54 it feels like is they're trying to keep this card from being too good so that
4:00 they can keep selling 1080s some partners are trying to work around this
4:04 by bundling one-click overclocking software but at worst this screws over
4:10 the users of platforms without available software overclocking tools like mac
4:15 users with external GPU boxes and at
4:18 best it's just adding more junk for the consumer to install to get the
4:22 performance that they paid for whatever your reasons for doing this green team
4:27 they're not good enough and we don't like them with all of that out of the
4:31 way the world does still need to know how this card performs though so we
4:34 grabbed our kaby lake and ryzen test benches along with a fine selection of
4:39 recent gpus to pin it against so is it
4:42 good enough to crush AMD's hopes and dreams
4:46 we start out with a solid it depends
4:49 on ryzen we got slightly better performance with vega and deus ex
4:53 mankind divided in both 1080p and 1440p
4:57 while our kaby lake bench gave us more mixed results
5:00 rise of the tomb raider flips things around with the 1070 ti pulling out
5:04 ahead on both ryzen and core i7 that is
5:07 until we look at directx 12 and 1440p
5:11 where once again the gap closes significantly and vega even overtakes it
5:16 this trend continues all the way through our bench suite with the vega 56 either
5:21 pretty close to 1070 ti and for honor and ghost recon wildlands or outright
5:26 outperforming it like at 1440p in counter-strike global offensive
5:31 our synthetics are initially more kind to the 1070 ti with a higher result in
5:36 fire strike extreme and time spy but unigen's superposition gives the edge to
5:41 vega 56. as for productivity blender
5:45 cycles renderer shows a clear preference for AMD with vega 56 shaving 15 seconds
5:50 off the 1070 ti's time to render the bmw
5:53 and an even wider gap in the classroom test as for power consumption it clearly
5:58 favors the 1070 ti though with a cool 30
6:02 watt lower total system power draw than vega 56 and an even wider gap of course
6:08 compared to vega 64. unsurprisingly it's
6:11 pretty close to the gtx 1080 though its thermal performance under synthetic load
6:16 actually winds up a little better so is it a vega killer
6:21 well that's where it gets interesting based on supposed msrps no
6:27 but when we consider vegas ongoing availability and pricing issues it
6:32 actually doesn't do too badly at all not badly for NVIDIA that is both consumers
6:38 and NVIDIA's partners are kind of getting the shaft here
6:43 speaking of uh getting the shaft the last thing you
6:47 want is to be using an airport's free wi-fi network or you know doing some
6:52 emergency banking at that random cafe
6:56 and be giving away your personal information well tunnelbear can solve
7:00 this problem it's the simple vpn app that makes it easy to browse privately
7:05 and enjoy a more open internet with tunnelbear turned on a couple of things
7:09 happen number one your wi-fi connection gets secured with aes 256-bit encryption
7:14 and number two your online activity is kept private from your internet provider
7:19 advertisers or anyone else looking to track you or profit from your data
