thanks to Squarespace for sending us to CES 2016 this year check them out from
0:03
the link below and build yourself a beautiful website so I was interested to
0:07
see that the LEGO Group has a booth here at pepcom at CES 2016 they're showing
0:12
off something called we do 2.0 it's a very simple Robotics and programming kit
0:17
for kids aged 7 to 10 years old the kit is $159 and comes with 280 pieces
0:23
including a single medium motor a programmable bluetooth smart hub
0:26
controller which also houses the batteries I think and a tilt and a
0:30
motion sensor you can connect two sensors to the Smart Hub or you can
0:34
connect one motor and One sensor there's also an educational pack of 24 kits plus
0:39
a curriculum for $2,260 is that worthwhile I have no idea
0:46
now the marketing material for this kit seems a little over the top it's talking
0:50
about an Innovative way for students to model reality and conduct investigations
0:54
and how a kid can explore rainforests and discover Mars but of course that's
1:00
really just the theme of the various builds that they've given instructions
1:03
for there's a frog there's a Mars Rover a rescue helicopter an earthquake
1:08
machine that one's my favorite and a few others what makes the kit interesting is
1:13
the ability to visually program a simple robot using desktop and tablet-based
1:18
software the software also gives you choices between guided exercises or more
1:24
independent problem solving now again this kid is aimed at 7 to 10 year olds
1:28
or second to four fourth graders so it's not nearly as complex as the well-known
1:33
LEGO Mindstorms robotics kits which are designed for ages 10 and up and because
1:39
the kit is so simple and it's directed at kids so young it's pretty tough for
1:43
me to objectively evaluate just how good of an educational learning tool it might
1:49
be for example I was expecting to see two Motors included in this kit instead
1:54
of one but the LEGO Group probably has a
1:57
lot of good reasons for Designing the kit the way that they did and if you
2:00
want more Motors and more complexity and and more of a challenge you can always
2:04
just get mind storms or power functions or something like that overall the Lego
2:09
weo 2.0 kit looks pretty promising and
2:12
I'm hoping to do a full more in-depth review of it on our channel in the
2:16
