0:00 did you ever pine for the good old days when computers had character
0:05 i mean these days we've got flashy RGB
0:08 and tempered glass but is it not all the same standardized
0:14 parts and standardized operating systems running off a standardized box
0:21 maybe maybe it isn't
0:34 mac weldon makes great underwear t-shirts socks wallets and more they
0:39 believe in simple shopping and if you use code tech tips you'll even get less
0:43 expensive shopping with 20 percent off you'll find the link below for those of
0:48 you who don't recognize it this
0:51 is actually a one-to-one design copy of
0:55 the original apple ii the steve wozniak
0:59 designed machine that was ubiquitous in the united states in the 80s and 90s
1:05 to give you a bit of context for how important this computer was the apple ii
1:10 was produced for over 17 years starting
1:14 in 1977 meaning that
1:17 this may well have been the first computer for a literal entire generation
1:23 of students during that time so
1:27 the successful funding of xiaofeiwang's
1:31 indiegogo campaign to revive it as a
1:34 modern full atx computer case shouldn't raise too many eyebrows
1:40 but is this thing any good well why don't we take a quick tour of it our
1:44 unit is a prototype made primarily from 3d printed resin but it has all of the
1:50 features that are going to go into the final design the most prominent of which
1:54 being an integrated 68 key poker cherry mx
2:00 blue keyboard which looks satisfyingly
2:03 authentic but i do have to ask was anybody really
2:07 asking for the elevated keyboard design
2:10 to make a comeback here fortunately you don't have to use it
2:16 just do that so let's move on then
2:20 we've got a power button and a actually somewhat difficult to reach front usb 3
2:26 and headset jack set on the lower right here and then just like on the original
2:31 on the top we've got this removable panel giving us a look
2:36 there we go under the literal hood
2:40 of the chassis itself so in here we find six 60 millimeter
2:46 fans for exhaust along this side and
2:49 this side and then we've got two 120
2:53 millimeter fans over here as intake which i would think should be more than
2:58 adequate getting it open right up here
3:01 hardware compatibility is a bit of a mixed bag
3:05 though so we've got full atx support for our
3:09 motherboard here you can you can see that here the length is right
3:13 but we're confined to small form factor
3:16 territory for expansion so that means a single dual slot opening on the rear for
3:22 our GPU and then
3:25 just two two and a half inch drive mounts which on this revision of the
3:29 design are mounted right here directly under the keyboard
3:34 cooler clearance is another consideration for this case it's got 82
3:38 millimeters of total clearance and
3:42 yet another thing to keep in mind it supports only sfx
3:47 not sfxl power supplies meaning that the best that we can cram in there is a
3:51 Corsair sf600 or a silverstone sx 600 so
3:57 installing the motherboard is pretty straightforward we just need to remove
4:01 this cable management shroud at the bottom right of where the board goes
4:06 and our ryzen test bench complete with a knock to a low profile cooler with a 92
4:11 millimeter fan on the bottom should slot in a little something like
4:16 shalamo you've got an extra standoff in here
4:20 Anthony that's like Intel boards only when's the
4:24 last time anybody put one of those in well it's okay as long as the board
4:28 didn't die depending on who you asked it's been too long
4:34 as long as a prime doesn't edit this that's probably what we could enter the video for the power supply we ran into a
4:39 small issue though in the default configuration which would
4:43 have had it mounted
4:46 like this using this grille right here as an intake for the power supply our
4:51 power connector coming out the back was going to interfere
4:56 with our RAM slot see now one remedy would be to use a right
5:00 angle connector but honestly we thought it made more sense to just
5:06 carve out this little area in the bracket right here
5:09 so that we could mount the power supply the other way around
5:13 this gives it lots of clearance something that i'm sure will be fixed by
5:17 the time you guys deal with it is the weird coloring for the front wires this
5:21 is the kind of stuff we deal with when it comes to early units sometimes it's
5:25 like white black and red yellow and then which one's positive negative it's kind
5:29 of a just flip a coin moving on to the GPU to keep the form
5:34 factor low profile enough to maintain the original computer's dimensions
5:39 uh we needed a pci express riser for our graphics card this is another thing that
5:44 i would like to see improved in the final design
5:47 right now it just kind of sits here so you
5:50 kind of slot the bottom of the card in over here
5:54 which doesn't fit spectacularly well then at
5:57 the back you've just got this like two pieces that you gotta kind of
6:03 screw together to clamp it on there kind of thing
6:07 and it just kind of hangs there but maybe they can
6:11 do some work on that later i mean overall though looking at it the
6:14 layout's not bad let's get it wired up i don't know what they were thinking with
6:17 this cable shroud what's the point of it
6:22 oh i think i think that makes sense yeah
6:26 got to install our SSD we actually had to remove this mount
6:30 because we had trouble closing the case with it in place but you know there's
6:34 still time to fix those kinds of things in future hardware revisions
6:39 okay this wire is a problem ow
6:43 that's that'll reach
6:47 oh just about lost my screwdriver bit in
6:50 there
6:59 okay powering it on
7:03 as expected with the 60 millimeter fans it is a little noisier than i'd like
7:07 and that is even without the included fan controller that made them louder
7:12 than just using splitters and then headers off the motherboard so let's get
7:17 a stress test fired up in summary
7:20 building in this thing is a lot easier than finding and then
7:24 modding an old apple ii for modern hardware
7:28 but it's still kind of a pain and as expected the 60 millimeter fans
7:34 combined with the authentic but
7:37 not super effective slot design back
7:40 here means that pretty much as soon as you start up a 3d load
7:44 you're going to be generating a fair bit of noise
7:49 so for cooling our CPU hit 74 to 75
7:52 degrees under load so you can expect to see a little bit of boost
7:57 but our GPU hit its thermal threshold at 84 degrees and dialed back its boost
8:02 clocks now considering we're using a low profile CPU cooler with its 120
8:07 millimeter fan removed this isn't too shabby but i have seen better results in
8:12 smaller cases which brings us then neatly to the
8:16 conclusion if it wasn't clear from the start
8:21 let me spell it out for you here this is a niche product with niche
8:26 appeal absolutely not
8:29 for everyone and i guess that's reflected in its
8:34 small but enthusiastic community that allowed it to be funded over on
8:38 indiegogo the product needs some tweaking before it hits mass production
8:42 especially when it comes to ease of use and acoustics but if you can live with
8:46 the cost and the compromises and
8:51 there will be some this is definitely one of the most unique pc cases we've
8:56 ever seen this video is brought to you by three
8:59 value-oriented rosewill products the cullinan mx tempered glass RGB gaming
9:04 case features four pre-installed fans with adjustable RGB via a remote
