0:00 Let's do a quick sound check, shall we? For those of you who
0:04 are watching already, we're like two
0:07 minutes early today. So, uh Oh, I
0:10 thought I thought we had a cat about to join us, but we don't. He's he's running
0:14 off to go somewhere else. Do you want to leave them in
0:18 here? Yeah, there we go. There. So, I'd just like to know if this
0:23 is working. So, if someone on Twitter or someone on uh you know, something can
0:30 let me know. Actually, I can check the I'll
0:33 check the Twitch chat. Here we go. And we're live. Yes, there we go. Uh for
0:39 those of you who have not seen my my intro teaser video on YouTube, we are
0:43 potentially going to have a live
0:47 unboxing of the iPhone 5 tonight, which I know you guys are super super excited
0:51 about. unboxing of the iPhone 5 tonight.
0:55 No. No. Am I not? I'm not. I'm not. Echo. What do you mean echo? Okay. Let's
1:00 see if the echo is gone. Echo gone. Echo gone. Here we go. Echo. I'm waiting for
1:05 people to say the echo is done. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. We know there's an echo. See, here you go, guys. Here you
1:10 go. All right. Tell me something. When you see that 10 people have typed echo,
1:15 do you feel the need to say echo? When you see that 10 people have typed
1:20 echoing, do you feel the need to say echo? When you see that 10 people have
1:25 typed echo still gone, please mute your stream. No, no,
1:29 the stream is muted. Hold on. Hold on. Still gone. Okay, we might have a
1:32 problem here. Please mute your stream. No, no, the stream is muted. Hold on.
1:36 Good thing we started early tonight. Okay, we might have a problem here. Please mute your stream. No, no, the
1:40 stream is muted. Hold on. Good thing we started. Browser page isn't even showing
1:43 my stream. That's bizarre. All right, let's go to a different website.
1:47 Okay. Okay, let's see if that helps. See, see, it's great that we're It's
1:51 great that we're having this uh great that we're having this time
1:55 together like 10 seconds apart. Okay, hold on. Hold on. Hold on. It's great
1:59 that we're having this time together. 10 seconds apart. Okay, hold on. We cannot
2:04 see the Echo results until people say close your stream. My stream is closed.
2:08 Okay, hold on. My stream is closed. There's no need to tell me to close the
2:12 stream. Hold on. Let's see if this uh let's see if my stream is closed.
2:16 There's no need to tell me to close the stream. Hold on. Let's see if
2:23 this. Okay. How about
2:28 now? Still echo. There we go. Are we good? We
2:33 good. All right, we're good. Apparently, I have to mute XSplit because XSplit is
2:40 uh I don't know. I'll have to figure that out later. I I have I have no idea
2:43 what's going on because I've only got one mic actually. I want to know how is
2:46 the audio quality tonight because I am using something pretty sweet. This is an
2:53 ASUS Thunder FX sound external sound
2:57 card that has an environmentally
3:00 cancelling noiseancel thing. That red
3:03 light that's on what would be the top to you guys and the right hand side of the
3:07 unit to me that audio is the same. It's
3:11 a little worse than last time. Good clear voice.
3:16 See? Yeah, you guys uh you guys are giving me mixed messages here. So, why
3:21 don't we kick things off with a couple of Twitter questions. I'm just going to
3:24 I've got my hotkeys working this time, so we'll actually be able to see what
3:29 each other are talking about. Let's go. Eight new interactions. Oh, okay. There
3:33 are two audio. Fine. Aha. HKG who is
3:39 here wants to know how do I feel about
3:42 the Trinity APUs that are coming out. So I don't really have feelings about
3:47 hardware per se, but I am definitely excited to see what AMD has done in
3:52 terms of uh faster gaming performance on
3:56 what would otherwise be a very entrylevel processor. Now, it's no
4:00 secret that AMD's APUs already destroy
4:03 Intel's actually here, I'm going to find a uh There we go. Let's go.
4:09 YouTube.com. And we're not going to have sound here, guys. Sorry. Uh so,
4:13 YouTube.com. Let's have a look at our
4:16 IGP
4:20 showdown. There, that's me right there. See, very few people watch these videos,
4:24 which is frustrating because they're pretty informative. See, look at that.
4:28 Lots of likes, very few dislikes, but no one wants to uh no one wants to watch
4:32 these like these uh these more educational videos. So, as I have
4:37 apologized for numerous times in the past, and people think my voice quality
4:41 is way worse than before. I mean, I can turn off the
4:45 environmental. You know what? I'm just not going to play with it. So, skip
4:50 ad. Going to try and skip the ad. That's their new strategy is to not let you
4:55 skip the ad. So, this is me with a crazy
4:58 hairdo that and uh this is the video not
5:03 playing which is obviously really helpful to make it look you know less
5:09 horrible. So, basically we do graphs and those green graphs there are the AMD
5:13 graphs and this this is Crisis right here and those blue graphs are the Intel
5:18 graphs. So, this is Ivy Bridge versus
5:21 Intel's or AMD's first generation APU. So, with their next generation APU, I am
5:27 super excited to see what they come out with. I actually have about three of the
5:31 new APUs on hand already. Well, rather Slick has them, and he's working on
5:35 testing them as we speak. At least he's supposed to be working on that as we
5:40 speak. But, uh, he he actually he actually may not be. So, there there's
5:45 only way one way to find out if he's actually working on it, and that would be to call him. Maybe we'll make that
5:50 like part of the live show at some point. Like crank calling slick whenever
5:53 we're doing a live show. You know what? Okay. Okay. I want I want I Okay, we're
5:58 gonna do this. So, the first tweet,
6:01 okay, of what I should prank text
6:06 Slick. I will I will take that I'll take
6:09 that tweet and I will text it to him. So, we're gonna we're going to start
6:12 watching the Twitter feed here. And uh I'm just going to change just just so
6:17 you guys just so you guys can can be can
6:20 be pretty confident that I'm actually doing it. We're going to we're going to
6:23 go because he was trolling me during uh during one of my previous live streams.
6:27 He actually phoned me in the middle of it and was asking me sort of smartassar
6:31 remarks questions. All right, hold on. I'm going to change his name in my
6:35 phone. I'm going to change it from his real name to uh his his other more
6:39 different real name, which is obviously Slick. And I'm just going to cover up
6:43 his phone number here. Whoops. So you guys can see that this is the whatever.
6:49 You can't see anything. Forget about it. So you'll just have to take my word for
6:52 it. Okay. Here we go. New interactions coming in. I'm going to find the first
6:56 one. I'm going to find the first one. So I'm not uh it's not a Okay. Will you
7:00 marry me? That's the first one. I think it's lame, but I'm going to
7:06 do it anyway because that's what you guys have asked for here. Okay.
7:13 As long as he's not watching the uh as long as he's not watching the live
7:17 stream, then uh here. Here we go. Here
7:20 we go. So, that's slick. And that is uh
7:24 that is my I can't I can't do this. Trying to look through the screen. There
7:30 we go. There it goes. See, we just prank texted someone. Let's
7:35 see if he replies right away. So, I'm going to leave this here for now, and
7:39 then I'm going to switch to my other view so that I can move over here. No,
7:43 better yet, I'll put this over here. So, we can keep an eye on that while we see
7:46 if we have any other topics coming in.
7:49 We'll see. We'll see what he says. This is going to be live, right, guys? So, I I have no idea. I have no idea what kind
7:54 of a reaction we're going to get out of him. All right, tell him you broke the
7:59 iPhone 5. Okay, no more suggestions. No more suggestions. And besides, I tell
8:03 him he's fired like every other day, so he won't even be surprised by that.
8:06 Christian wants to know, "What's the difference between DDR2 and DDR3?" Uh,
8:11 you should definitely look that up on YouTube, Christian. Uh, if you if you
8:15 search for DDR2 versus DDR3, I have a video all about
8:22 that. Thomas Thomas Heckler, you know what? Here, we'll put this away for now.
8:27 Thomas Heckler wants to know, "What is the best way to clean out CPU fans and
8:31 case fans? I have filters in my case, so
8:34 I would suggest checking out the dust
8:38 PC. Let's start. Let's try PC
8:42 dust." Oh. Oh. Oh. Dust
8:45 resistance. Oh. Oh. Oh. Apparently that
8:49 uh that search term is not going to work for me. So, we'll try something else.
8:53 Computer cleaning.
8:58 And there it is. 140,000 views. PC
9:02 cleaning tips removing dust bunnies. Maybe if I'd used uh better search terms
9:06 for that, that would have been better. Uh oh, here we go. Here we go. We've got
9:10 Slick's message back. He wants to know if he's going to get a dowy of a
9:15 3960X. So, it looks like he's actually down for the idea. And uh that's very
9:20 exciting for me and of course all of my viewers who are very happy about my
9:23 impending nuptuals. We're not going to give him any more context for that. I'm
9:27 just not going to reply to his text anymore, which will be for the walls, of
9:31 course, as well. Let's move down. My Little Pony theme song.
9:39 Okay. All right. 18 new interactions. Thoughts on DDR4? Good question. Um,
9:44 DDR4 is probably going to be lower power, higher frequency, and higher
9:49 latency than DDR3. We honestly haven't seen any big um on the desktop anyway.
9:54 We haven't seen any big performance improvements come from upgrading our
9:58 memory technologies since pretty much dual channel DDR2. I mean uh if you go
10:03 back and look at the at the numbers um
10:07 back then even especially on platforms with an integrated memory controller. So
10:11 AMD's platforms at the time, not Intel then, but Intel now. Uh we don't see
10:16 that much of a difference in terms of performance because we don't need all
10:19 that memory bandwidth these days. I mean, if you're buying like an X79
10:24 platform system, um, you know, for extreme Uber gaming or whatever else,
10:28 you might as well get four memory sticks because they're so cheap these days. But
10:32 the actual difference in performance running on an X79 platform between dual
10:36 channel and quad channel is on the order of like singledigit percentages. It's
10:40 not actually that
10:43 huge. All right. Hey Lionus, is it worth
10:47 me waiting for any tablet with a keyboard dock on Windows 8 or just get one of the Android ones? Personally, I
10:52 find with the Transformer series, the the keyboard experience on Android is
10:59 actually not that uh not that
11:02 satisfactory. It it doesn't feel that clean. I haven't used it with Jelly
11:07 Bean, though. Um and I haven't used it extensively with ice cream sandwich. So,
11:12 this is based on the honeycomb days. Uh,
11:15 however, I think we can all assume that a Windows 8 experience with a keyboard
11:19 and mouse is going to be pretty seamless compared to what you might see from its
11:24 uh from its competitors. Nikil, a see I always do
11:29 this wrong. This guy right here wants to know, "What are my opinion on Corsair's
11:33 Dominators?" So, Dominators are RAM um available in DDR2 and DDR3 varieties.
11:39 Well, rather that's two and three.
11:42 Um, often times they're faster than other RAM. It doesn't make a huge
11:47 difference to your system performance, but they look outstanding. The new Dominator Platinums, especially with
11:51 that like silver bar along the top, makes your system look ballin. And they
11:55 have like interchangeable lighting effects and stuff that you can put in them. So, that's pretty cool. Um, other
12:00 than that, they have a lifetime warranty. They're hand tested. They're Corsair, so it's probably good stuff.
12:04 That's about all for my opinion on dominators, unless you meant some other
12:08 kind of Dominator. I'm assuming you meant Corsair Dominators.
12:12 I mean, you know, whatever you're into. I'm not I'm not here to judge on this
12:16 live stream. That's not what this live stream is about. Phil, have you heard about any
12:22 high pixel density monitors coming out soon? Actually, I have something very
12:26 exciting to show you, Phil. I'm going to go ahead. I'm going to go into my uh my
12:31 folder where I archive all this like stuff that I don't know might be
12:36 interesting or might not. So, in my pending folder, you can see that we
12:42 have ASUS
12:45 PB278Q showcase coming out on NCIX Tech
12:49 TT tips. So, that is going to be pretty cool. And I hope you guys are going to
12:53 check that out. Don't forget to be subscribed to the NCIXCOM channel as
12:57 well as my Linus Tech Tips channel. Otherwise, you won't necessarily see all
13:00 of my content because I do upload completely different sets of videos to
13:04 both of those channels. and uh that yeah that that particular monitor is a 27in
13:09 monitor with a 2560x440 resolution. No, it's not quite
13:14 up to the kind of pixel density that you see with like a retina display or or
13:18 with some of these new fangled Android tablets such as the Transformer
13:22 TF700, but it's still significantly higher than well what we're used to on
13:27 the desktop and is therefore therefore exciting. So, I'm going to move that
13:31 away. I actually have no idea how many people are watching the live stream
13:34 tonight. So, I'm kind of uh I'm kind of I'm kind of curious, but I guess I'll
13:38 I'll look a little bit later. Okay, scrolling down. Oh, okay. We're back to
13:43 uh we're back to where we left off. Let's have a look at Oh, 75 new
13:48 interactions. That means we're we're starting to see a bit of a bit of a ramp
13:52 up here in terms of how many people are watching. And it's you again. You're my
13:56 favorite. Let's see if we can get rid of you for good this time. And you are
14:02 blocked. Byebye. Thank you for playing. Come again.
14:07 Actually, probably don't come again. That would be best. All right.
14:12 What's What's better to use for 120 Hz
14:15 gaming? DisplayPort or dual link DVI?
14:18 I'm using a GTX 690 and the BenQ XL
14:23 2420T. Simple answer, totally doesn't matter. They're both completely digital
14:28 connections. They're both more than capable of delivering the bandwidth that
14:32 you need for 1920 x 1080120 htz. Um
14:36 DisplayPort is believed to the rumor is
14:40 that it has slightly higher latency compared to DVI. So if you don't for
14:44 whatever reason need the smaller connector versus the DVI connector, then
14:48 I guess you might as well go with whatever cable you have lying around.
14:53 Cables make digital. So there's there's there's
14:56 no difference between like an expensive DVI cable and like a like a cheap DVI
15:01 cable. It just it just doesn't matter. The only time you really run into trouble with cables is when you're
15:06 talking VGA cables. So with any analog cable, the actual quality of the cable,
15:10 the quality of the connector makes a big difference. With digital cables, you'll
15:14 know right away if there's anything wrong with the cable because it just flat out won't work. And I think we have
15:18 a visitor. Come here. You want to come visit
15:24 Rocket? Here you guys can see him
15:29 perhaps. Where'd he go? Rocket. There you are. There you are, sweetheart. Say
15:34 hi to everyone. There he
15:38 goes. Yeah. Yeah. Saying hi to everyone.
15:43 Hey, there you go. They can see you. Okay. Well, that was fun. Rocket joined
15:47 us for for just a moment, then he he had to leave. Bye, Rocket. Okay. Personal
15:53 rig updates. No. Oh, no personal rig updates this week. I've been super busy
15:57 this week. David wants to know if I have an NCIX discount. You bet I
16:02 do. It's awesome. By the
16:06 way, uh Kevin says, "Thank you for taking the time to live stream to us,
16:11 your loyal fans. Watching you right now. I'm watching you, Kevin."
16:15 No, but seriously, um, thank you guys for watching because if nobody watched,
16:19 then I'd be one of those sad people on the internet that actually like like
16:24 this was very sad. I came across this YouTube channel that's been around for
16:28 about five years, like five years. And
16:31 it had like hundreds of videos on it and
16:36 like a hundred subscribers, which at
16:39 that point is basically probably fakes. Like it's it's probably not even real
16:43 people. And it just like like all these hours of content that have been created
16:47 and nobody ever watched them. I do feel truly lucky and truly blessed that you
16:51 guys even want to watch me on the internet. So, no. Thank you, Kevin, even
16:55 though I gave you the staredown earlier before and I'm very sorry about
16:59 that. H Vincent wants to know if there's any
17:04 news on the rumored Corsair H80i and H100i. I haven't heard anything, but I
17:08 can tell you right now that that sounds pretty exciting because if it's an I,
17:12 then it's probably like a new AXI power supply, which is
17:19 awesome and it probably goes with that somehow. So, that would be my entire
17:22 that would be my entire take on on all of that. Oh, random, random, random. You
17:28 just won the fail tweet of the night award because when is NCIX coming to
17:33 Ontario? We are going to go on a little voyage of discovery here on the contact
17:38 us page of
17:42 NCIX. Ontario location Missaga Markham other Markham
17:49 Scarboro and a warehouse. Bam. I'm sure
17:52 you meant Toronto city but you know
17:56 whatever. The suburbs are basically the same. So you can still go to NCX. You
18:01 just have to like put some effort into it.
18:05 Justin, I've heard using canned air is bad for cleaning your case because of
18:08 chemicals or something. Is this true? You know, I probably wouldn't
18:12 worry about it too much. I mean, I wouldn't just like turn it upside down
18:15 and like spray the liquid directly onto everything, but um yeah, I Yeah, I just
18:21 I wouldn't I wouldn't over I wouldn't overthink that. JJ wants to know what I
18:25 think of Chromebooks. JJ is Oh, see, I do that every time. JJ's right there. So
18:30 JJ, Chromebooks are, in my opinion, not
18:34 there yet. Now, if the Chromebook had
18:38 apps in much the same way that Android has apps, for example,
18:43 then I might see some more utility to it because not everything runs in a browser
18:47 yet. I mean once we see some more consolidation in terms of web standards
18:50 like if flash just goes away which is
18:54 going to take time it's not going to happen instantly then then there might
18:57 be more more possibility of of writing apps that are completely universal and
19:02 will work 100% of the time and uh aside
19:06 from aside from the lack of that sort of unified structure to it uh the other
19:12 problem to me is this the requirement for constant connectivity. I mean, for
19:17 me here in the uh in the in the Canadian
19:20 ghetto, um it's still expensive for data
19:23 for for my device. And then if I have multiple devices, then I'm paying for
19:27 multiple data connections, which um again gets sort of more expensive. I
19:32 mean, you can bundle things together, but yeah, the idea of having a device
19:35 that only really that only really functions the way it's supposed to if I have a
19:39 connection is not that appealing to me
19:42 personally. But in places like Japan or places where the population density and
19:46 the IT infrastructure is much better then it might be better. Uh Justin wants
19:51 to know FX6200 or 8150 for gaming.
19:54 Justin I would suggest that you consider an alternate platform if gaming
19:59 performance is your only consideration. I did do a review of the 8150 when it
20:04 came out. Um let's see if I actually here we'll see if I can dig it up. You
20:09 know what? Let's just use our Let's just use our half our half panel here.
20:13 Whoops. Whoops. Whoops. Nope. That's not what I meant to do. Okay, let's find another
20:22 Okay. Yeah, Slick sent me a follow-up message. You know, one of those big O,
20:26 you know, period, small O things. He's like, I'm not going to reply though,
20:31 just for lols. It'll be funny, right? Okay, let's search for um FX
20:39 8150. It helps if you type for Oh, that
20:42 change. Right. Whoopsy daisies. 8150.
20:46 Let's try my other number pad. All right. Hey, there we go.
20:50 Unboxing and first look has really that one has 240,000 views. Go figure. And
20:54 there's the uh there's the gaming benchmarks versus the 2500K, which is a
20:59 pretty pretty last generation processor there, guys. So, let's go ahead and
21:05 Yeah, my power line internet's really slow. I think in this one I just showed
21:09 like an Excel chart and since it's not in HD right now, that's going to be
21:13 pretty hard to read. I can understand why you guys don't like the way I do these charts. In my defense, though, I
21:18 usually read out a lot of it like during the process. Here we go. Here we go.
21:21 Here we go. Okay, so pretty much if we if we have a look at the data which is
21:26 to our right here, we can see that the
21:29 8150 gets um hold on minmax average oh
21:34 was actually very similar across the board to a 2500
21:39 K. Well, okay then. Okay, so that's a
21:42 last generation Intel CPU. Since games don't really take that much advantage of
21:46 here, how many cores for gaming? Since
21:50 they don't really take advantage of that many cores, you can assume that any modern Intel CPU is going to be slightly
21:54 faster than that. Although, it should be noted, see how many CPU cores is enough
21:58 for gaming. There's another good video about this. It should be noted, however, though that where was I going with this?
22:04 Ah, yes, my legendary bottleneck video.
22:09 Let's see. Let's see how. Yeah, right there. You search for bottleneck right
22:12 there. Understanding hardware bottlenecks and how to avoid them. If you have your graphics details turned
22:17 up, which you should if you're running a decent machine with a decent graphics
22:21 card, you're going to discover that it almost pretty much doesn't matter what CPU you have to to a point as long as
22:27 you've got something modern and something reasonably fast with a reasonable number of cores. Uh because
22:31 you're going to be GPU limited anyway once you turn the details up. And
22:34 bottlenecks are not necessarily a bad thing. Every single system is
22:38 bottlenecked. I have so many people ask me, will this part bottleneck this part?
22:41 And it's not that simple. Watch the video. Watch the video right there.
22:45 Watch that video later. Bookmark it now. Just do it now. Watch that video later
22:49 and hopefully you'll understand it a little bit better. But any given
22:53 hardware configuration, let's say CPU A and video card B. Depending on the
22:57 settings I'm running, the CPU is the bottleneck or the GPU is the bottleneck.
23:01 It It's not just as simple as, well, this thing bottlenecks this thing. And
23:06 no, it doesn't work that way. So, it comes down to how you're using the
23:09 hardware more than anything else. Do you like cheese? What is this
23:13 cheese meme? You know, I actually I just watched um Gangnan Style or whatever
23:18 that video is called. Yesterday was my first exposure to this. And uh honestly,
23:24 these memes just pass me by a lot of the time. I mean, I'm working during the day
23:28 and then I get home and it's baby time and then I upload my videos and then I
23:33 sleep. So, I haven't I haven't had much time for really anything else. But, uh I
23:37 got to say that's very confusing. I mean, it's it's sort of like it's
23:41 entertaining because he's like riding a horse, but
23:44 um I don't know that it's my favorite song, per se. So, yeah, let's just sort
23:48 of move right along. AJ wants to know if he should one of these days I'll get
23:53 this. AJ right there wants to know if he
23:57 should with his X 109 and 6970 upgrade
24:01 now or wait for nextG stuff. My performance in games is average to low.
24:04 I would really like to know why your performance in games is average to low. I'd say your video card is getting a
24:09 little bit I mean it's not even bad. I
24:13 And your CPU too like the 1090T is actually not really slower than the
24:18 current generation bulldozer stuff as as long as I mean that's a black edition so
24:22 you better be overclocking it. Um and the same with the 6970. It's a good
24:25 overclocker if you haven't already done so. Maybe overclock your hardware and
24:28 see if it lasts you a little bit longer because that's still pretty modern stuff.
24:34 Um, canon tow, what do you make of individually sleeved cables? I like
24:40 individually sleeved cables. However, I think they can look a little bit busy.
24:44 Um, cable sleeving
24:47 Linus. So, this is how I've decided to do my sleeved cables. So, this is my
24:53 personal rig update series of videos, which I started like a bajillion years
24:57 ago. This is part six, and it was in February 22nd. And we're up to part nine
25:01 now, and I'm still nowhere near finishing my uh my system. But what I
25:05 decided to do was take two wires and put
25:09 one sleeve over them for a slightly You
25:12 know what? This one actually here, let's try personal rig. Linus. Let's find one
25:18 where I can actually show you what the cables look like. So, part two, three,
25:21 four, five, seven. Test fitting and sleeving progress. More up. Yeah, there
25:27 we go. Sleeving progress. So, if you check this one out, part seven has some
25:30 sleeving progress in it, and it shows you my uh my idea for my idea for cable
25:35 sleeving with two wires per per sleeve. And then I think the end of this one
25:39 actually, nope, doesn't have anything else in it. There's one that has has my
25:44 baby in it. I think it's part eight. Lorenzo DK wants to know, "What
25:49 is the possibility of water cooling leaking?" If you puncture it with
25:52 something, it will leak. I mean, it's water. Um, if you mean if you're
25:57 diligent and careful and build water cooling, you know, as well as you can,
26:01 the odds are actually very, very low. I mean, when we're talking custom water
26:05 cooling, guys like Swift EK, those those guys are pressure testing their
26:09 components before they ship them to an end user. Every single one gets pressure
26:13 tested up to however many PSI, which is many times more than you will ever
26:17 encounter in a PC water cooled system. So, the the odds of those parts leaking,
26:23 not so much. And really, a leak on a
26:26 live system should never happen because you should always have leak tested the
26:30 entire loop with the system not powered on first. There's lots of guides on the
26:34 internet for how to do that though, so I'm not going to cover that there. Here,
26:37 here, there. Do I have a computer making
26:40 video? Asks Jake Bob. Jake Bob, I would
26:44 suggest that I have the best computer making video. Um, here PC build
26:52 guide right there. Top hit under the
26:56 advertised video. Number one above PC Whiz Kid, who
27:01 I also like, but that's only part one of his
27:05 video. This is the entire video. Let's see if anyone else even shows up on the
27:09 radar. Look at these guys. They got a million views for that. How to build a
27:13 computer, choosing your components. That's outstanding. Here's part two.
27:18 Here's part three of that. Build your Ah, this is a good video. How to build a
27:22 PC. The ultimate guide from Tech Syndicate. That's uh good old Logan the
27:26 uh the ex-tiger guy who's uh who's taking care of that channel now. So,
27:30 it's pretty good pretty good stuff over there. You should definitely subscribe to raise the world with a zero rather
27:35 than an O. David wants to know what I think
27:38 about Hackintoshing. I still haven't done it yet. I keep I keep telling
27:42 myself I'm going to work on that next and then I keep putting it off for something else.
27:46 Um, I think it's awesome. I think it's I
27:49 think dual booting a Windows and OS 10 environment is probably the best
27:53 compromise. So, if I was going to get a notebook tomorrow, I'd probably get some
27:57 kind of a MacBook with a unibody frame. I mean, you guys can hate all you want
28:00 on the MacBook and OS 10, but it's a beautiful notebook. Um, but for the
28:04 desktop, it's yeah, it really doesn't make sense because the price to
28:08 performance and the component selection is just not there on the Apple machine.
28:14 So, it'd be great to be able to to hackintosh it to have a real computer
28:17 and then run a toy OS on it if you want to, you know, Final Cut, although my
28:23 understanding is the new Final Cut isn't that sort of fantastic.
28:27 Um, aha, iOS 6, did you download it? I
28:32 have not. I am still using iOS 5.1.1.
28:36 Uh, with all the horror stories about the maps, I'm a little bit terrified to
28:41 uh to try to try iOS.
28:46 Um, oh, so disappointing. It looks like
28:50 cameraman might not be able to join us tonight for our live iPhone 5 unboxing.
28:55 Although, if we end up doing it, then
28:58 you know what? If he arrives here tonight at some point, I promise you
29:02 guys, I will turn the live stream back on. However, I'm not going to do another
29:06 YouTube video announcing this. So, you guys are going to have to just subscribe
29:09 to me here on Twitch if you want to make sure that you catch this because it's
29:14 going to be very exciting. I promise not to rip on it too hard,
29:21 though. Francisco wants to know Windows 8 versus Windows 7. You know what? I
29:25 haven't had enough time with Windows 8 to really make some kind of an intelligent decision about that. So, I'm
29:29 going to wait till I actually have a release copy in my hands. I'm going to install it on my personal machine and
29:34 see how it goes. Uh, Alex Rupert wants to know 3820 or 2600K. I would love your
29:38 input. I would suggest to you, Alex, that those are both last generation
29:42 processors. Um, and given the parody in pricing between a 2600K and a 2700K, you
29:48 probably shouldn't be looking at the 2600K in the first place. And with the
29:51 fading availability of Sandy Bridge processors, you're probably going to want to look at an Ivy Bridge, which is
29:55 a 3770K and is definitely faster than that 3820.
30:04 When will 1440p TVs and monitors be
30:07 available as a standard resolution? Question from Nathan. Nathan, I would
30:10 suggest that they will never be a standard resolution much the same way
30:14 that um well, lots of resolutions were
30:17 never really a standard resolution. Um we're going to move straight to 4K would
30:22 be my guess. I mean, you can see everyone's working on um denser. They
30:27 say, "I keep holding up the iPhone tonight, you know, because it's pixel
30:30 density." Uh, everyone's working on pixel density. Everyone wants higher
30:34 resolution, but when it comes to broadcast standards, they don't like
30:38 changing that often, and they don't like just sort of willy-nilly shifting things
30:41 around. It's not like the PC where we can just have some resolution because we
30:46 use like power strip and deem it to be thusly. Um, there's a there's a lot of
30:51 infrastructure that goes into a standardized resolution. So, we're going to we're going to be moving to 4K. and
30:56 asking me how much they cost. Come on, man. You just are the runner up for
31:01 Whoops. There you go. More light. for
31:04 bogus. How could I possibly know? They'll cost as much as No, they'll
31:10 cost 4K dollars. I don't know, man. I know
31:17 you can buy 4K cameras now for as little as five, six grand. I've been looking
31:21 into new cameras. I'm hoping to not be using this webcam in like I don't know
31:26 couple weeks. Uh got a shopping list at
31:29 B&H that I'm pretty much finalized. I think we're going to get a Sony
31:34 FS100 with uh with a lens and with
31:37 tripod and with some new lights which are hopefully going to make me not look
31:41 like washed out and blue and pale. I can't even figure out how to fix it. This webcam is not not that great. I
31:46 mean this all this stuff behind me looks about right. Maybe I'm just sitting too close. Hey, that might be the problem.
31:52 It's fine now, but I kind of have to be here because I have to like read the
31:55 screen and stuff. So, what can we
32:00 do? Uh, George wants to know if there was a water block for the Extreme 11,
32:03 would you use it? Because I know a guy that says he's talked to you. Um, no, I
32:07 wouldn't because I'm done with the Extreme 11. Um, I honestly the
32:12 performance of the board isn't that great, especially for gaming, just because of the the two PLX chips that
32:18 are installed on it. um will give you a higher number in
32:22 terms of the bandwidth readout in GPUZ, but it won't actually improve your
32:27 performance. I know I've just shattered your perception of reality. Um more
32:32 bandwidth is not always better, especially if it adds latency. So, the
32:35 only reason I was considering the Extreme 11 was um because I hoped it
32:40 wouldn't coil wine and it looked outstanding. It's just like an awesome
32:43 looking board. I'm not going to invest a whole bunch of money into a custom water
32:46 block for a board that really for me doesn't have any advantages over the
32:51 X79 SUP5 that I ended up settling on.
32:54 So, it's a Gigabyte board. Um Ian wants to know, is SAS just multiplug for SATA?
32:59 Actually SAS has different features than SATA. It does have um it's more RAID
33:05 friendly. I believe you can run longer cable runs.
33:09 Um SATA supports breakouts as well. So
33:12 it's not just SAS that supports breakouts. I mean SAS tends to get
33:15 better features earlier than SATA. So SAS had NCQ before SATA did. So there
33:20 you go. No, they are different standards. Remember guys, SAS
33:24 controllers will work with SATA drives, but SATA controllers will not work with
33:29 SAS drives. Okay. Emanuel wants to know how old my
33:33 cats are. They're going to be three years old this December
33:37 28th. Yep, they will be three years old. Let's see if any of them want to visit.
33:42 Yeah. Rumble. Rumble. Come
33:48 here. Kitty.
33:53 Rumble. Usually he comes when I call. Hey,
33:57 cat. Oh, there he is. See, he's giving me the he's giving me the old
34:01 staredown. See, there he is. Hey, come
34:06 here. Come on.
34:10 So, not interested. Nope. Nope. We're not getting any special guests tonight.
34:14 I know. I promised special guests and then I did not deliver. I'm sorry for
34:19 that. Brian wants to know, "Is it frustrating when people constantly ask
34:24 you questions you've answered in your videos?" Actually, no. It's okay because
34:27 um for one thing, they're easy to answer because all I have to do is go
34:32 click video where I explain for five or 10 minutes the answer to a a complicated
34:38 question.
34:41 Um yeah, no, if anything, it's more convenient. Tuon wants to know, how is
34:46 your massive RAID fix with your Seagate 3 terabytes? Any problems with dropping
34:49 out since error recovery control is not supported? Actually, I haven't had any issues with them. Things are going good.
34:54 Things are going fine. and uh and and they're and they're
34:58 awesome. Things are good. I'm I'm loving my massive RAID 6 with all of my with
35:03 all my stuff stored on it. Adam B right
35:07 there wants to know, did you hear about more Thailand floods coming? Do you
35:10 think this will affect hard drive prices again? If the manufacturing facilities
35:14 flood, then yes, prices will be affected again. However, my understanding is
35:18 Thailand floods on a fairly regular basis. Um, but that was just sort of
35:23 very extreme and all the manufacturing
35:26 facilities were on like one flood plane. So, so hopefully we won't see a repeat
35:31 of that again. And we are all the way down to
35:35 the end, I think, of the questions that uh that are new. So, let's go ahead and
35:40 have a look at the 307 new interactions that I don't stand
35:45 a freaking chance of getting to entirely
35:49 here. Um, I am curious how many people
35:52 are watching tonight. 1,400 people. And guess what? I
35:59 did find where I already where I had the Twitch stream open before, which might
36:03 have been the problem with the echo. So, um, I'm going to try something here. And
36:08 I'd like you guys to let me know if this works. Do we have an echo
36:14 again? Just tell me once.
36:20 Do we have an echo
36:24 again? No. Excellent. How is the sound
36:34 quality? Bad. Yes. No. No. Pretty good.
36:39 Okay. You know what? I'm done with the Twitch. You know what? We're turning that on to slow mode because I can't
36:44 uh I can't I can't I can't understand
36:47 anything you guys are saying
36:52 here. Okay. Medium fine fair.
36:57 Okay. Someone wants to know if he can be a
37:01 mod. Okay. Well, back to Twitter.
37:09 to 344 new
37:15 interactions. Oh, uh oh, that'll be a problem. There we go. That's that
37:19 Windows uh arrow shake feature. That's
37:22 uh that's amazing.
37:25 Okay, Twitter questions. Good quality. What's your
37:29 opinion on jet skis? Uh jet skis are awesome. And anyone who doesn't think
37:33 they're awesome doesn't know what they're talking about at all because jet
37:36 skis are amazing. I've only actually really been on a jet ski myself a few
37:41 times. Uh because here in Vancouver, the water is pretty cold. So, it's
37:47 um yeah, not that not that great. Like, it's cold. So, uh when I was down in
37:52 Mexico a few years back, I uh I spent a
37:55 fair bit of time on the jet ski near the the all-inclusive thing where we were
37:58 staying. And uh yes, it was a blast, especially when the water's not cold.
38:03 Okay, Paul wants to know full screen versus windowed benefits and what
38:07 exactly is the difference from a processing standpoint and performance hit? I'll tell you right now, it really
38:11 depends on the individual application. Full screen will always be consistent,
38:15 but Windows might run fine with some things and might run totally rubbish
38:19 with other things. So, um I personally
38:22 have never really understood the appeal of running things in window mode because
38:25 then you got like frames around it. I find it detracts from the
38:29 immersiveness. But hey, to to to each their own. Someone wants to
38:35 do Steve Jackson wants to know, "What can I Oh, there we go. What can I do
38:40 with my old LG75 processor and motherboard?" Steve, I would suggest to
38:44 you that you can do any number of things. You can build yourself a storage
38:47 server using like a Windows home server. You can uh you can build yourself a
38:52 router using psfense. Um, you know, and throw a couple like network cards in
38:56 there and uh that would be that would be pretty neat. You could you could give it
39:00 away to charity. You know, lots of lots of charitable or getting donations of
39:05 old computers. So, um there few suggestions for
39:10 you. When wants to know, why don't I use
39:14 a 5D Mark III for the camera? I'm looking for a camcorder. Um not for a
39:19 DSLR. Just I don't want to deal with the the DSLR hassleness. I know the big
39:25 sensor, it looks clean, etc., etc., etc., But we're going to be doing some pretty different stuff um involving
39:30 needing a clean HDMI feed out from the camera because we're going to be using
39:33 some HDMI capture cards and stuff like that. And so it should be uh should be
39:38 pretty pretty good news bears as far as the quality of our overall operation
39:42 here. But a DSLR really just isn't going to do it for
39:46 us. Uh DJ I did it again. TJ wants to
39:51 know, "What are the 2420T and the TX the Oh, wait. And
39:57 the 2410T, what are the major
40:01 differences?" Never ever type duh in the place of the I'm not answering your
40:05 question. You can retype it and maybe we'll get to it
40:08 later. The differences. Um, does my baby play with
40:13 the cats? He's still a little young. Um, he's
40:17 correct. When do I think 3D monitors will
40:20 decrease in price and become more popular? Uh, over time they will decrease in price and over time they may
40:25 or may not become more popular. It really depends on what people think of
40:29 any of the uh the advances that get made
40:32 in the whole 3D technology thing. Oh, hold
40:40 on. Okay.
40:46 having a little bit of uh trouble with the
40:49 whole Twitch
40:53 stream with some people who are being inappropriate and apparently the sound's
40:57 cutting out now. Brilliant. Okay, hold
41:00 on a second. I have I have one
41:04 idea. Oh, someone says Mike
41:08 is Okay.
41:13 And let's turn off
41:17 the let's turn off this feature here in
41:21 the Thunder FX settings. So, if you guys haven't used a Thunder effects card
41:24 before, I'll show you how the control panel
41:29 works by hopefully putting this over here, which apparently Oh, look at that.
41:33 That's bizarre. It doesn't work at all.
41:37 It actually doesn't show
41:40 you the uh the Thunder FX window that I'm dragging over there. So, I'm going
41:44 to try turning off the environmental noise cancelling. So, you guys will have
41:47 to let me know if that's a little bit better. And
41:52 hopefully uh hold on. I'm going to set a
41:55 couple of moderators in the
41:59 uh in the chat because this is pretty
42:03 annoying.
42:07 Okay, it says audio is cutting out. Well, that's massively improvement. Oh,
42:10 okay. Apparently, it's better now. You know, it's funny because when I did a TW when I did a test of this, the uh the
42:15 noise cancelling feature was actually like worlds better than when I didn't
42:19 use it. And I guess for the live stream, it just doesn't work at all. Mr. J Bacon
42:24 wants to know what's my middle name. And that will forever be a mystery of tech
42:29 tips. Am I excited for the new Haswells? I'm actually extremely excited for
42:34 Intel's upcoming architecture. I hope that it's more of a difference over the
42:37 previous generation than Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge was. Um I'm a little bit sort
42:42 of I'm a little bit nervous that we're going to have the same issues we had
42:45 with Ivy Bridge where the tininess of the transistors means that they run hot
42:50 again, but h you know maybe in that time Intel's made some some big advancements
42:54 and it's going to be you know really exciting. It's going to overclock like stink. Yes, I'm very excited to check it
42:59 out. And uh right now I know absolutely nothing more about it that any of you
43:07 do. Miles, I'm actually afraid I haven't heard of the new ICU PE power line
43:12 rumors. So maybe you can tell us all more about it. At some point in these
43:17 live, people can actually call in like kind of like a radio show. I think
43:21 that'd be that'd be super exciting. But uh for now, I don't have the means to do
43:26 that. that I mean I'd need to have like you know some kind of like TV here and
43:30 people would be able to like Skype in or something like that and uh and that
43:35 would be that would be actually really really neat and people
43:40 say coming cutting out
43:44 um sounds like it's the headset not the hardware I don't know guys it shouldn't
43:48 be the
43:52 headset we will figure this out at some point someone's asking how to Find my
43:56 Twitter. I'm Linus Techch. And there's a cat on my counter. He needs to get down.
44:01 Hey, get down. Thank you. All right,
44:04 let's go back to some Twitter questions here. Does the GTX 660 have better
44:09 performance than the GTX 570? Um, I
44:12 don't know. Actually, I haven't I haven't tested them head-to-head. Um,
44:16 although your best bet would be to look at any GTX 660 review and just find one
44:20 that has GTX 570 numbers in it as well, and then you'll know. um sites like
44:25 hardware connects and antec are good
44:29 ones can see performance of video cards and CPUs and various things like that.
44:34 Nick who has a fantastic picture of Mr. Bean for his avatar asks 3770K or 2600 K
44:41 for gaming. Both would be cool by an H100. They're pretty similar, especially
44:44 if you're overclocking. The 3770K getting my personal pick because I do a
44:49 lot of video transcoding and the onboard graphics is much better for that versus
44:53 the 2600 K.
44:56 Sean, since you've decided on the Gigabyte board for your rig, what's the
45:00 next thing you're looking for for the rig? Um, the next thing I need to do is
45:03 actually stressing me out a lot because I have to cut up my Silverstone TJ7,
45:10 which is like eating me up inside. Um, I have to carefully plan where I want to
45:14 cut some cable management holes in the motherboard tray as well as where I want
45:18 to cut some other cable management holes throughout the rest of the case. I don't
45:22 want to make any mistakes. Um, I'm not a Dremel expert by any stretch of the
45:26 imagination, so I'm a little bit worried about lining something up wrong or
45:31 cutting a line that's supposed to be straight and level and kind of looks
45:34 like this. Um, I mean, I am going to be powder coating it after I'm done,
45:39 so a little bit, but it's still still making me very
45:44 nervous. Which leads us to Matthew's. Oh, man. Matthew's question. What is
45:48 your favorite case? My favorite case is the Silverstone TJ7 with some of my
45:52 other honorable mentions being the Fractal Design Define R3, the Corsair
45:56 650D, the 800D. Um, Antex P280 is also
46:00 outstanding. So, those are some of my favorite cases.
46:04 Um, the Corsair 300R is a great value considering the price and how good it
46:09 looks. Daniel is upset that he bought a Thunderbolt cable and didn't gain any
46:14 superpowers. Daniel, you must have cheaped out. You must not have bought
46:18 the $50 Thunderbolt cable. So, that's
46:21 probably the problem. Go buy yourself a more expensive Thunderbolt cable and
46:25 then you shouldn't really have any trouble with
46:30 that. Do my cats swim? Not if they have
46:33 a choice. Just like uh just like most cats
46:37 don't swim if they if they have a choice.
46:45 Uh okay, moving right along.
46:51 Chris, right there. Are there any NVIDIA
46:54 3D Vision 2 with light boost technology
46:57 monitors that don't have TN panels?
47:01 Great question, Chris. And the answer is no for a couple of reasons. So monitor
47:06 technology is kind of um is not
47:09 advancing that fast in terms of the speed of the of the pixel changing which
47:13 is which is ultimately what is drawing us what is holding us back and people
47:18 are still complaining about the mic. I don't know what to do about the mic
47:22 guys. So sorry. Um so that is still the bottleneck for us
47:28 is how fast we can switch the pixels. Now there's a lot of
47:34 tom foolery that can go on to enable the panels to switch faster. So TN for
47:38 example is a faster panel technology
47:41 than IPS or MVA or PVA or PLS. It's the
47:46 fastest one by far, but it compromises
47:49 in terms of accuracy. So, it's kind of like asking, it's kind of like, okay, so
47:53 here your your PLS panel, which is my personal favorite, is kind of like
47:59 um, you know, a sniper rifle where, you
48:03 know, it's like slow to reload and, you
48:07 know, it takes a while to aim, but it's very accurate, whereas a TN panel is
48:12 more like a, you know, like a machine gun or something. So, speed versus
48:15 accuracy. So the PLS panel or or any of the other technologies are going to give
48:19 you better color accuracy, better color depth.
48:23 Um generally generally an overall better
48:26 image whereas a TN panel is going to flip the pixel as fast as it can. It'll
48:31 get kind of close but not quite there um every time. So that's why all of the 120
48:37 Hz panels that are u validated for 3D
48:40 are TN. Even those panels that people are buying from Korea, they're buying
48:44 from overseas, those cheap 2560x440 27inch monitors, the cat leaps
48:48 and the like that everyone's kind of into, right?
48:52 Even though you can set it to 120 Hz and it'll do 120 refreshes of the image per
48:57 second in terms of motion blur, which is
49:00 when you're actually changing, for example, from a dark background to a
49:04 light background, like with my finger and the and the window here, you will
49:07 see the pixel having to change. Even
49:10 though with a static image, it might be sending a signal to itself 120 times a
49:15 second. So, I hope that makes sense to you guys.
49:19 no else would validate
49:23 um a nonTN panel for 3D because when the
49:26 pixels are shifting so that they show you the right or the left eye back and
49:30 forth like that the the pixels won't be fast enough even if the refresh rate is
49:34 fast enough so it would never get certified at least not the way it is now
49:38 OLED on the other hand might be a different story once those get bigger
49:41 and a little bit more uh more mainstream I mean personally I'm super disappointed
49:46 that we never saw SED see the light of day. That was Canon's display technology
49:50 they were working on and it just disappeared. Um, another really good
49:55 solution is a DLP projector because DLP
49:59 is again much faster for switching um in
50:02 terms of the not the refresh rate but the response times than uh LCD
50:08 is. Good question Chris. Thank you for
50:12 bringing that question to us. Ruben wants to know, "Ozar ozar ocezzex 3 or 4
50:18 versus Intel 330." Um, I'd probably go
50:21 with the Vertex 3 out of those out of those choices. Vert.ex 4 also not a bad
50:25 choice. Intel 330 is uh it's it's a lowerend it's a lower-end
50:30 product, but it's Intel, so it's like it's fine. It's reliable. Sebastian,
50:35 what is the model of your Snap-On screwdriver? I don't know. It's their
50:38 Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver. Why don't we go on a voyage of discovery together and we'll try searching for
50:44 Snap-On ratcheting
50:48 screwdriver. See if it comes up based on
50:51 the magic that is Google. There it is.
50:55 There's one. Uhhuh. Uhhuh. There's an orange one
50:59 just like mine on the eBays. There's a
51:02 picture of one just like mine. Oh, look at this. There's a whole like Oh, wow. I
51:08 need to collect them all. This is like Pokemon for like Snap-On screwdrivers.
51:12 I'm geeking out over here. Are these all different colors? No, they couldn't be.
51:18 No. No. There's a handful of orange ones. There's some multiple black ones.
51:23 That is awesome. So, here's something you guys probably don't know. Each of
51:27 those screwdrivers costs about 80 to 100 bucks. So, that's actually like in terms
51:32 of sheer dollar value like a sexier picture than like two GTX 690s next to
51:37 each other. but you just don't know it because you're not into like Snap-On
51:40 tools, which some people might be,
51:43 but Mike A, what do you see as the next Battlefield 3 in terms of graphics card
51:48 testing? Crisis 3 probably. I mean, U said that Yurly or however, I don't know
51:53 how you pronounce his name, but the the Cryc guy basically came out and said,
51:57 "We are going to pone PCs with our upcoming version of Cry Engine." And I
52:01 am personally very excited to see them try because every time we have a game
52:07 dev actually properly utilize the PC hardware, we end up with a game that
52:11 looks awesome and uh and has makes us feel a little bit better
52:16 about the money and the time that we've invested into using this PC platform for
52:20 gaming rather than, you know, popping a disc in the drive and like sitting slack
52:24 jaw on our couch like this with like a controller in our hands, which is um not
52:28 as satisfying for everyone. And I mean, satisfying for some people, I'm sure.
52:32 And I'm not judging at all. I mean, it's not like I have a uh it's not like I
52:37 have a totally unbiased and not at all,
52:40 you know, PC glorifying PC versus
52:45 Xbox video about this kind of a topic.
52:48 Oh, there we are. There we are. By NCIX. Um although this guy right here is
52:53 probably not me anyway, so I don't I don't know what you're talking about.
52:57 Um, PC rules. Justin, I want an ASUS TF700T. My
53:04 girlfriend wants the new iPad. Which would you choose? We both already have
53:09 iPhone 4s. Fascinating question, Justin.
53:13 Um, hard to say. I actually don't really
53:16 like the Gen 3 iPad for a couple of reasons. Number one is it is noticeably
53:21 heavier than iPad 2. Anyone who tells you it's not is doesn't know because
53:25 they probably haven't used an iPad 2 extensively. Um I'm I'm still using my
53:29 iPad 2 on a daily basis. Um so it is
53:32 heavier. The thing that really bothers me about it though is it runs warmer. So
53:35 if you're using it without an insulating case, like kind of a thicker case, you
53:39 will notice it gets warm in your hands to the point where your fingers will
53:42 probably sweat and it like you won't be comfortable. Um, TF700T doesn't run 100%
53:48 super cool either, but it was cooler than iPad 3 from my from my time with
53:53 it. Um, however, the Android platform isn't for everyone. If you're used to
53:57 iOS and you like iOS and you have all the apps that you want exactly where you
54:01 want them, then you might find that you're better off going with uh going
54:05 with the same ecosystem. But if I was really buying an iPad like today, I'd be
54:10 looking for one of the new generation iPads. Actually, Anantech did a
54:15 fantastic article about this. One of the new generation iPads using the smaller
54:20 process technology that enables it to have better battery life, like just way
54:25 better battery life than the uh than the iPad 3 and even the original iPad 2. So,
54:31 I hold on iPad uh two.
54:35 Oh, right. iPad 2 and
54:39 tech. I keep forgetting which keys I'm using for the uh for the switching. Ah,
54:44 yes, this one. 32 nanometer brings better battery life. So, let's let's
54:48 check out their graph here. If you guys don't don't read an Nantech, then you
54:52 should definitely uh definitely check out an Nantech because it's like best.
54:56 I've been white reading an anteced for years and years and years and years. Learned tons reading this site. So, here
55:01 we go. iPad 2.4 gets 11.7 hours of
55:05 battery life. iPad 2, which is orange, gets 10.1. iPad third generation is all
55:10 the way down here to 9.25. So that means
55:14 a difference of more than two hours of
55:19 battery life between So okay, you got
55:22 your high resolution screen. Good for you. I'll be using my device for 2 hours
55:25 longer than you between charges. Comes down to personal
55:29 preference, but uh I'm I'm just not that sold on the iPad 3. When we get the high
55:33 resolution screen in a slightly thinner form factor with longer battery life,
55:37 then then we're talking and then I might be convinced to pull the trigger on that
55:42 one. Shane wants to know, is the 660Ti
55:45 good graphics card comparable AMD
55:48 cards? YouTube is full of awesome
55:54 information like this
55:57 GTX 660 Ti review.
56:02 And there's me. And there's me. And there's me
56:07 again. And there's everyone else. So go
56:10 ahead and check it out and decide if you think it's good. And what are the
56:14 comparable AMD graphics cards? Because they're all in there. Austin says, "I
56:19 live in Vancouver, too. I want to ask you high school." Okay, this this kind
56:24 of thing won't be tolerated. If you spell school like that and if you spell
56:28 you like that, then I'm not answering your questions. Brian, when is the last
56:32 time you went to a land party? Just for fun and not for work. Wow. I think the
56:38 last time I went to a land was uh probably Kaplan a few years ago. Maybe
56:44 Sitoan land a couple years ago. Like there there was a time when I was kind
56:48 of going to I was going to Kaplan. I was going to Stowen. I was going to uh
56:52 whatever iteration of Lancouver, Lower Mainland, Van Land, whatever they were
56:56 calling it at the time. Um it's just it's been a long time. I suck at video
57:00 games, especially now, and so it's just
57:03 been hard to justify. Okay, let's see if there's any
57:08 new questions here. Ah, William, I am
57:12 getting an SSD, but I'm not sure what one would be the best to get, such as
57:16 Brandon size. Thanks for reading. Oh, he only wanted me to read it. Moving right
57:20 along. No, I'm just kidding. U, so back to William's question. In terms of size,
57:24 you should buy the size that you need and the size that you can afford. I
57:28 mean, come on. I can't answer that question for you. If you're like, "Oh, well, it's going to be for, you know, a
57:32 PFSense router box that I just want to use a solid state drive in so that I can
57:35 uh so that I can not listen to a worring hard drive and worry about it failing."
57:40 Well, then get the smallest one you can. or if it's like I'm
57:43 gonna like gigantic like 3D models of swimming
57:48 pools um or something, I don't know, then you
57:53 better get a big one. So, you only you can decide how big of a size you need.
57:57 And as for the best brand, I mean, there's lots of good
58:01 brands. Intel, OCZ, these are all good choices.
58:06 They're all good drives. Here's here's the cold hard truth with the whole SSD
58:11 performance thing. And there are people who would disagree with me. You know,
58:15 notably my favorite SSD reviewer, who's the guy over at Hardware Connects. He
58:20 does not agree with me at all about this. But I would argue that an SSD for
58:24 for 99% of users out there who are still using hard drives, any SSD is going to
58:30 be such an enormous upgrade that it's totally doesn't even matter what they
58:34 choose. Pick any SSD. Find a modern SSD,
58:37 buy it, and put it in your system, and who freaking cares because you won't be
58:42 able to tell the difference. I mean, if you go back to SSD versus hard drive,
58:46 which is a video I did a long time ago,
58:49 this one right here with the legendary lizard hat, I show realworld demos like alt
58:56 tabbing. And now, this is an episode of Tech Tips that I've wanted to do for a
58:59 long time. I'm finally getting around to it. This is SSD versus hard drive. So,
59:04 without going any further, Vertex, uh, what was this? SSD. I'm going to alt tab
59:08 out of the game. Boom, you're at your desktop. I pressed Alt Tab at exactly
59:12 the same time on that hard drive machine. And I am still waiting for it
59:15 to go to the desktop. Same thing when you want to go back in a game. Or if you
59:20 want to see Supreme Commander 2, when you want to go back to the game, there's
59:24 a bunch of applications. The SSD is having back in the game with the SSD.
59:28 So, now let's hit old systems a little bit harder. Let's say you're searching for all of a particular file like let's
59:34 say you're looking for every JPEG on your computer or every txt file on your
59:38 computer. So you can enter a search pretty darn close in terms of
59:42 real world noticeability extension and let's say let's choose the
59:47 extension hybrid I because there will be
59:50 tons of those on any Windows machine. So you can see that the SSD is populating
59:54 my list way faster. You can tell by how much smaller the scroll wheel is versus
59:59 on the hard drive. That's a really difficult demo to show. And you can also
60:03 tell that the search is completely done. There we go. And the hard drive is still
60:07 working at it. This is the green progress bar that is showing how far the
60:12 hard drive is. Yeah, we've got 451 items. We're still at 411
60:17 412 451. The hard drive is finally done.
60:20 So that is how much longer it took for the hard drive to populate with 451
60:24 items here. And then let's not forget
60:28 that one of the most stressful things you can do with your computer is dare to
60:32 use it while you're running an antivirus scan. So let's open up the computer
60:36 scanner in AVG and let's scan whole
60:39 computer. Now when you're scanning your
60:42 computer obviously anything that you try to do is going to be hampered by the
60:47 fact that you're doing that. So why don't we go ahead and just do a simple
60:50 thing like open up Microsoft Word. I'm pretty disappointed SSD is done. the
60:55 hard drive to recover from where it's
60:59 scanning for the file that contains Microsoft.
61:04 So, in conclusion, I thought I'd open up our test machine here and let you know
61:07 that there is no smok and mirrors going on behind the scenes. Every test you saw
61:11 was run on two identical machines. One with the Vert.ex, one with the Western
61:15 Digital 1 TB Black, which is one of the most respected, fastest magnetic hard
61:19 drives on the market today. But after the demo you saw today, why isn't
61:23 everyone using an SSD? The answer to that is because right now they have
61:27 significantly lower capacities and much higher prices. The SSD we're using today
61:32 costs over $900 and it is a 200 GB
61:36 model. The hard drive we're using costs about $100 and it is a 1,000 GB model.
61:41 to a lot of people. He apparently was calling to tell me
61:45 that the YouTube video playing in the background was causing problems, which I
61:49 suppose if I'd been looking at the uh at the Twitch TV chat, you guys were
61:54 probably Oh, whoa, there we go. Yep. Yep.
61:57 BG286 says, "Slick calling to tell you about the
62:01 audio." Outstanding. Thank you, Slick.
62:04 Say 1 billion bleeding lambs all at the
62:07 same time. So, there you go. See guys, I'm still new to this, so whatever, man.
62:13 Slick rules. Thank you, Slick. Slick. Slick. Slick. Thanks, Slick. Thank you.
62:17 I love you, Slick. That's what everyone has to say about all of this. Praise
62:21 Slick. Okay. Bye,
62:25 Slick. So, there you go, guys. If there was any doubt that I was sort of faking
62:29 the uh the address book entry when I when I texted him earlier, then um let
62:34 that be a lesson to you. Oh, I've got a
62:38 message. Uh, mute the YouTube audio. Thank you.
62:44 So, yeah, I whatever. You guys run your
62:48 own live stream then and I'll watch your live stream and I'll I'll troll
62:56 you. Let's go back to Twitter. People respect me, unlike the
63:02 my phone where people call me and tell me that I'm live streaming. Uh, Ahmed
63:08 wants to know, "What would be a good water block for Galaxy's GTX 670s?" Um,
63:12 any water block that is compatible with from EK. Um, I don't know who else.
63:19 I don't know who else has a has a GTX 670 block here. Why don't we do research
63:24 together? So, I'm going to show you guys the process that I go through whenever
63:28 someone asks me a question or whenever there's something I don't know. First, I
63:32 Google it. Did you mean GTX 670 water
63:37 block? Sure. Okay. Then I go to some store. In this
63:44 case, let's go with frozen CPU because they have lots of good stuff. And then I
63:50 look at all the different GTX 670 water blocks and I find the one that looks
63:54 pretty cool. Okay. Oh, the XSPC one is cheaper.
64:00 XSPC makes good stuff. EK makes good stuff. SwiftTech makes good stuff. These
64:03 are all good brands. I don't like their new circle design, though, so we're going to go with the acrylic top. And
64:09 there's your There's your answer.
64:16 Done. Um, and that's assuming you have a reference GTX 670. If you're using a
64:22 Galaxy card with a nonreference PCB, you
64:26 pretty much probably won't be able to find a water block. If you want to water
64:29 cool your graphics card, you're probably better off to go with a reference card
64:34 like 95% of the time. Every once in a while,
64:38 you'll see some special card like an MSI Lightning Edition that has a full cover
64:43 block available, but it really doesn't happen that
64:48 often. Okay. Sad
64:52 cigar cigar. Dear Lionus, hi, I'm from India
64:57 and biggest fan of your reviews. Please allow Indian for all giveaways. I have
65:01 not done a North Americaon giveaway in like two years. Everyone needs to just
65:07 get over it. I did it one time. Every other giveaway I've done has been
65:11 worldwide. So, I don't want to address this anymore. And thank you for writing
65:16 into the show. Lucas, did Logan have any
65:19 hand in helping Lionus TechTips? I would be greatly interested in knowing the
65:23 origins of your info. Lionus Tech Tips is called Lionus Tech Tips and not Logan
65:27 Tech Tips because it comes from yo me.
65:31 Um, Logan had a hand in helping Tiger Direct blog for many years and he has a
65:36 hand in doing his own thing with Raise the World, but we've never actually
65:40 collaborated on anything. So, uh, I mean, we've exchanged emails, you know,
65:43 we've exchanged YouTube private messages a few times, but that's about
65:47 it. Yep. Keith wants to know which GTX 660 would
65:52 I choose that is non-reference. Um, most GTX 660s are non-reference if I recall
65:58 correctly. This is one of those cards where NVIDIA has made the reference
66:01 design sort of very very optional. So, I would probably do something like this. I
66:05 would go to my favorite computer retailers store and then I would look
66:10 for a GTX 660, which I would find more easily if
66:16 the page layout wasn't totally broken because I'm scrolled funny. I'd find one
66:21 with like a sweet cooler or something and then I' I'd buy it.
66:28 Um, yeah. You know what? I don't really have a preference on the 660s. The only
66:32 one I have any experience with is the MSI Twin Frozer 3 one. I had no problem
66:36 with it. It's got a Twin Frozer 3 cooler. You know, I'd look for one with an aftermarket cooler. I usually prefer
66:40 like a dual fan cooler versus uh versus a blower cooler just because they tend
66:44 to be quieter and they tend to run cooler. But yeah, uh Phil wants to know
66:51 I'm never going to get this, am I? Phil wants to know, is there a huge
66:55 difference between surround and stereo headsets? I use cheap earbuds in game
66:59 and can still pinpoint the directions of sounds. Great question, Phil. Um, and I
67:04 would suggest to you that it is a simple matter of mathematical calculation that
67:10 you can kind of go, okay, if I have two audio inputs, which
67:16 are my ears, and two audio outputs,
67:19 which are my speakers, then as long as
67:23 the software mixing is done correctly, okay, and this is complicated. this
67:28 is ality of audio then in theory a
67:32 stereo setup is as good as anything in
67:36 theory. Um for headphones I would never
67:41 really use ones with dedicated speakers
67:44 because what you tend to end up with is lots of small tiny sounding speakers
67:50 instead of two larger better sounding
67:54 deeper sounding speakers. Um, however, when it comes to speakers, actual
67:58 physical speakers set up around you, I would suggest if you
68:03 want speakers are actually better than two stereo speakers in front of
68:07 you. So, there you go. That is my answer to that
68:11 question. Francisco wants to know if it
68:14 is worth spending the money on water blocks for two
68:19 HD5770s. Francesco, these kinds of value
68:22 analyses are actually quite simple. First, let's find out if anyone even
68:26 made a GTX 5770 water block. Uh, okay.
68:31 Apparently EK did. Okay. So, let's go
68:34 ahead. Let's go to Aqua Tuning. Let's find out how much one of those is going
68:37 to cost you. 5770.
68:41 Oh, okay. We're in USA and Canada. Look
68:45 at that US flag for the USA and Canada
68:49 region. We Canadians get no getting no
68:52 love. Okay. Yeah, let's proceed
68:56 again. Okay, let's try this. 5770.
69:03 Go. So, it looks like your water block
69:06 is around 40 bucks. So, for 40 bucks times 2 plus
69:11 whatever you can get for your 5770s, which is usually a quick thing. This
69:15 This is the way I always do this, guys. So, we go on eBay. So, so far we're
69:19 spending 80 bucks. 5770. We go on eBay and we can find out
69:24 about how much a 5770 is worth. So buy it now. Six bids around. So let's assume
69:29 it's worth around 65 bucks. So if you sold your two 5770s, that would give you
69:34 65 times to $130 plus $80. It would give you $200 to spend. Okay? So, if you had
69:40 $200 to spend, you could go to NCIX and
69:44 search for GTX
69:48 660 and you would find that a new graphics card. Oh, okay. 660, right? The
69:54 non Ti is around a little over 200 bucks for an
69:59 EVGA 660 superc clocked. Then you go and
70:03 look at a review of a GTX 660.
70:07 Okay. So, see, are you guys following me so far? This is the calculation. So,
70:11 we've got 200 bucks to spend, but we spent about 10% over our budget, which
70:14 is unfortunate. Okay. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. Here's our review.
70:18 We're going to go let's just pick some arbitrary game like uh like one that
70:22 scales pretty well sort of across the board like uh say for example, really
70:26 they're using Crisis Warhead. Sure. Okay. Crisis Warhead. Let's find out how
70:29 Crisis Warhead performs. And then we go, okay, so the 660
70:35 destroys pretty much anything below a
70:40 7850. Then we can go back and we can
70:43 look at a 7850 review.
70:47 Okay. And we can find
70:51 out, well, Guru 3D. See, these are all credible sites. Guru 3D, hardware
70:56 connects and ant Tom's hardware. We're only looking for approximates. We're
70:59 just doing a rough calculation here. So
71:03 prices too, it doesn't really matter. We're looking for approximates and they do not have a lot
71:08 of Oh, there we go. There we go.
71:12 7770 a
71:15 78 gets absolutely rocked by almost
71:19 double. Which means that even if your 7770s scale pretty well in Crossfire,
71:25 your new GTX 660 is going to be more
71:28 than 10% faster than which means that it
71:32 is the same feature set. Um, longerterm driver
71:37 support, probably more worthwhile to get a new card as opposed to spending a
71:41 bunch of money on your old cards. That folks is the way we do it. That is how
71:46 we figure out what's a better value. You compare things across multiple reviews.
71:51 You figure out how much it's going to cost, how much your hardware is worth.
71:54 And then you just flip your 70 or whatever they're called,
71:58 57. And wait, 5770s. Was that even the
72:01 one I was looking at? I was looking at 7770s. Oh, the 5770 is terrible. Yeah, I
72:06 know. It's a terrible value. Yeah. Get a new card there. Now we know. Now we know
72:11 the answer. Oh, look who visited us. It's Rumble the cat. Say hello,
72:15 everybody.
72:18 Can you say hello here? Let's give him a headset. He's not going to feel like
72:22 he's part of the show unless he has a
72:27 headset. Can you say
72:31 hi? Can you say
72:35 hi? Oh, he's not impressed at all.
72:40 Okay. The cat is not impressed at all
72:43 with our uh with our setup here. Anyway, we are going to sit together now and I'm
72:47 going to answer some more Twitter
72:52 questions. Twitch TV is only for gaming. Too bad. That's this guy right here. Too
72:57 bad. Twitch TV knows I'm here. They can kick me off if they want. That's
73:03 fine. Oh, he's getting
73:07 down. Okay, let's go back up to the top here because all these tweets are from
73:11 about half an hour ago. Who knows? These guys might not even still be watching anymore. Let's have a look at some new
73:15 tweets. So, we're probably going to wrap things up in about 10 minutes here,
73:18 guys. And uh I will hopefully Yes, MK. I
73:22 know. Fix my audio. It's cutting in and out and dying and something. Check
73:25 Twitch randomly at least. Oh. Oh. Oh, he wants me to check the Twitch chat. All
73:30 right, let's have a look at the Twitch chat. H, that cat is so cute. Yes, it's
73:35 a cat. Guys, if you want questions answered, go post it on Twitter. Yes,
73:39 guys, if you want questions answered, please do post them on Twitter. I'm on
73:43 Twitter at Linus Tech. Um, and I'm mostly ignoring the Twitch chat tonight
73:48 because I haven't got a better system for arranging the Windows here. I'll figure out something for next week. I
73:52 hope. And by then, I I really hope the
73:55 audio will be fixed. But I I really don't know what else to say about it at this point because I've tried
74:00 everything. I've tried this external sound card. I've tried this external
74:05 sound card. I've tried freaking this
74:08 external sound card which is supposed to be BOS and like balling out and none of
74:14 them are working for me here. So, um
74:17 I've tried multiple headsets and uh
74:20 cameraman wants my address. Apparently, he wants to like hardcore creep me.
74:25 Actually, no. No, I already told you that won't work because I already told you guys that uh he was planning to come
74:30 here with an iPhone 5 so that we can get an unboxing done which is very exciting.
74:35 Gary wants to know, Lionus, what is the most silent pump? Thanks very much. Get
74:40 an MCP655 or a D5? They're the same thing. Turn the dial all the way down to
74:45 one. Very, very, very
74:48 quiet. KMR wants to know, Lionus, how do
74:52 you know how to learn to string a badminton racket? Um, I have a friend
74:56 who works at a badminton shop and he showed me. It's actually not that hard.
75:01 Uh once you get the hang of it, you got to do like the over under over under
75:04 over under. You have to look up the stringing patterns on the manufacturer
75:08 website. Make sure you put everything through the right holes. Who knows? Maybe I'll do a video about it at some
75:12 point. But I'm not very good at it. It takes me about an hour to string a
75:15 racket. And to put that in perspective, he can do it in I think about 20
75:19 minutes, maybe a little less. So I'm incredibly slow and my way of uh my way
75:24 of doing it is actually not that efficient. Paul Tiberius Nicola. That is
75:29 a fantastic name. Paul Tiberius, how much does a PCI Express high performance
75:35 SSD affect video cards using a PCIe
75:39 lanes? Lose the entire electrical lane.
75:42 Okay, Paul. Um, first I'd like to clarify a little bit how the PCI Express
75:46 lane allocations work. So, as long as you install that PCI Express Whoops,
75:52 there we go. That PCI Express card into a slot that isn't in the same slot as
75:56 your graphics card, they're not really fighting over it. So, for example, in an
75:59 X79 board, you've got two 16x slots or you've got
76:03 1688. If you install that PCIe card in
76:07 down here, then it'll switch to 1688, which really won't affect your
76:11 performance much. So, um I know that's what you meant. I was just I was just
76:15 messing with you before. Um but yes, it will change the configuration of your
76:21 PCIe slots. Um but you can sacrifice as
76:25 little or as much as you want. And I mean lots of boards um especially Z77
76:28 boards have PCIe 4X slots usually down at the bottom that are hooked up through
76:33 the chipset and running off a completely different um set of PCIe lanes versus
76:38 the 28x slots. So you just have to look
76:42 at the uh at the layout for your board and see what makes sense for
76:45 you. Um Fazil says from Iraq and I say
76:49 hi Iraq. KPK TDS, how many years will last an i5
76:56 3570K for gaming? Please answer. I would
77:00 love to answer you with a
77:06 video. YouTube.com. Let's see what comes up. Oh. Oh, special daily rewards. Oh,
77:11 I've been selected to take part in an annual visitor
77:16 survey. YouTube.com. What a scam. Don't go to
77:20 YouTube.com. It's probably a scam. Although, when you guys are gone,
77:25 I'm going to go back and find out if I won anything. I just didn't want you to
77:28 get like my activation code so that I'd have to share my prize with you. All
77:33 right. Future
77:36 proofing. Let's see. Oh, it's me. Holy
77:40 crap. Look at me. I'm right there. Proofing your PC. Dispelling some myths.
77:45 This was one of the simplest NCIX tech tips episodes we ever filmed. And this
77:49 time I'm going to remember about the YouTube audio so I'm not going to wreck
77:53 it. But I basically talked for 10 minutes about how future proof Welcome
77:57 to NC Tech Tips. Today's format is going to be a little bit different
78:01 for when you get your next paycheck or like a month later then it makes sense.
78:06 But if you intend to actually
78:09 basically I say don't worry about it. Doesn't work that way. No one has a
78:12 crystal ball. Anyone who tells you you're future proofing your PC is trying
78:15 to sell you something. I mean, yeah.
78:18 Don't don't believe that. Joe wants to know, "GTX 662 gig or 3 gig." Joe, the
78:24 answer is quite simple. If you're going to be running at very high res, go ahead, grab the 3 gig cards. If you are
78:29 not running at high res, if you're going to be running at sort of a more normal like 1080 resolution, go with the 2 gig
78:34 cards because it won't make any difference whatsoever. Edward Dwarkin,
78:39 would you recommend an AMD APU for a very lowbudget rig? Absolutely, Edward.
78:43 I would especially if you want to play entry-level games on it because compared
78:48 to Intel's integrated GPUs, the APU dead
78:52 or integrated graphics that's included is really good. It's way better than
78:56 Intel's even Intel's Ivy Bridge GPUs.
79:00 So, let's see if the cat wants to come back and visit us again. Looks like he's
79:03 thinking about it. Yep, here he comes.
79:06 All right, more Twitter questions. Zack, do you ever use Linux
79:11 for anything? No, I don't. I get that question a lot
79:15 though. Daniel wants to know, "Where do you think a college student should start
79:20 looking for a job related to what I do?" Um, what I do is product management. So,
79:25 if you took like, I don't know, product management program, then you might learn
79:30 a thing or two about managing products. I mean, product management is pretty
79:34 simple. Basically, you find stuff you think people would want. you try and find it at a price where you think your
79:38 company can make money and then you try and sell it at a price where the company
79:41 does make money but people are still happy with the price and they want to
79:44 buy it. So, you know, as long as you can handle handle those basic ideas, then
79:49 you should be fine. It's not rocket science by any stretch of the imagination. Um, as for the YouTube
79:54 thing, the best way to get started looking for a job related to YouTube is
79:58 to well upload videos to YouTube because
80:01 that's probably how someone will see your YouTube video and watch it and like
80:04 it. Speaking of which, you guys should like this video. Wait, no, it won't work
80:09 that way. Well, I'm gonna upload this video to YouTube after. So, if anyone's
80:12 actually still watching an hour and 18 minutes into it, then they can definitely like my video because if
80:17 they've watched that much of it, they probably like it. Jesse just sent me a link to Newegg.
80:23 How dare you, Jesse? How could you do this to
80:27 me? Some heat sink. I don't know. It's a heat sink. Did you know Newegg has a
80:31 site just for Canadian shoppers? All prices in Canadian
80:35 currency. Oh, new egg. New egg. New egg.
80:39 Yeah, you have a Canadian site, but I don't know if anyone cares. Bam. Take
80:43 that, Paul. And the other guy. Shoot. I even
80:48 tried to get everyone to follow him. No, I can't even can't even remember. My
80:52 brain my brain's kind of fried. It's actually been a very long day and I've
80:55 been live streaming for almost an hour and a half. So, uh, and in answer to
80:59 your question, Jesse, go with the better heat sink, which is the one you linked,
81:02 not the Cooler Master
81:07 212. Matt wants to know, "What is going on with the Pile Driver CPU, and when
81:11 will AMD make a new CPU without integrated graphics?" Coming very soon.
81:16 There's lots of information all over the interwebs. Um, if you were to
81:21 search 50, you might kind of
81:24 interesting. I can't tell you anything. But, uh, you know, the rumor sites, for
81:30 all the, uh, for all the flack they take about being wrong about this or that,
81:33 are are right so often that it's definitely worthwhile reading them if
81:37 you really want to know what's coming in the
81:41 future. Stephen, I'm trying to decide
81:45 between is it worth investing in the Intel? Short answer is fine. Uh, it's a
81:50 bit of a longer answer than that, unfortunately. low-end gaming machine,
81:54 entry- level gaming, just basic productivity, go with the AMD machine
81:57 because it honestly doesn't make that much of a difference anymore. Um, any CPU is fast enough for word processing
82:02 these days. If you want a higher performance machine, then Intel will
82:08 perform better. So, do you want to spend more and get more performance? Okay, go
82:11 Intel. Do you not want to spend more? Do you not want more performance? Go with
82:15 AMD. I mean, there are certain applications, however,
82:19 even perform pretty well. something like an FX8150 where all those cores are
82:24 being leveraged can perform pretty well.
82:28 Um, especially given the price points. I think an 8150 is around 200 bucks now
82:32 and the motherboards are
82:35 cheaper. Katsu Lionus, what do you think of two 120 mm rads compared to a single
82:41 240 mm rad? I'm planning to water cool my 550D and I want my sound damp pads.
82:47 Two 120 mm almost identically. The only
82:51 difference is you are going to hamper your flow rate a little bit, which
82:54 doesn't make that much of a difference to the performance of your loop. So, if
82:58 it's more convenient for you to use two 120s, go for it. Do it. It really won't
83:03 matter that much, especially if you have a decent pump. Don't use like a craptastic pump with it or anything like
83:07 that, though. Get an MCP 655 or 350 or 355 for that
83:12 matter. Michael, can you still overclock Intel
83:16 CPUs without a K on the end? You can, but only a little bit. If you really
83:20 want the benefit of that CPU and you want to really crank it up, get one with
83:23 a K on the end. Yan says, "Linus, show us your
83:27 cat."
83:30 Bam. That's my kitty.
83:33 Okay, Phil's question we already answered. Uh, Simrons wants to know,
83:39 "Why don't I ever review ASUS video cards?" To which I would reply, um, I
83:44 don't know. Let's see. ASUS
83:49 Linus. Oh, okay. Let's try ASUS Linus
83:54 video. Okay, we got a GTX 580 Mars 2.
83:58 We've got an Aries 5870X2, although that
84:01 was just a giveaway. There's the unboxing of it. Here's the uh testing of
84:05 it. Here's an unboxing of a 560Ti direct
84:09 CU2. Okay, so I see your point. All right. All right. Okay. So, some of this
84:12 is older stuff. Um, honestly, um, I
84:16 don't have them, so it's harder for me
84:19 to, you know, look at them, investigate
84:22 them, check for imperfections in the
84:26 finish. Um, yeah, it's really that simple. Whatever Whatever crosses my
84:30 path, and usually for ASUS, it's things like sound cards and motherboards and
84:36 uh, notebooks. Whatever crosses my path, I will make videos about. And I just
84:40 really don't I don't really don't get my hands on ASUS video
84:44 cards. Khalil, I missed you when you were at CES. Will you ever be near
84:48 Northern Nevada or Sacramento again? Um,
84:52 I don't know. I might be at CES again next year. I might not. It really
84:55 depends what happens. Um, yeah. And we
84:58 got our favorite troller. Haha. You're
85:02 so cool. A, it's adorable.
85:10 And have you updated your iPhone to iOS 6? I have
85:14 not. Uh, we're going to scroll down.
85:17 Linus, turn off the YouTube video. Ah, we've gotten down to to
85:22 that. Felix says, "Fail night, Lionus. Video is louder than you and getting
85:26 longer mic breaks." I know. I don't know
85:29 what to do. Well, I do know what to do. I need
85:34 to get better equipment and it's coming, but for now I don't know what to do to
85:38 address it. All right, let's go look at some of the newer tweets. 122 new
85:42 interactions. Thank you to those of you who are still watching because uh there
85:46 are still 1500 of you watching the stream, which is just outstanding,
85:50 especially given the technical challenges we've had tonight. I'm sure at least a
85:54 few few people are probably getting sort of frustrated with all the technical
85:58 difficulties, and I'm sorry for that. But I really do appreciate your guys'
86:01 support and uh the fact that you're watching the show. Joe wants to know,
86:06 should I upgrade to Ivy Bridge from my Q6600? Um I would say that is an
86:11 excellent upgrade. You've waited a few generations. You've uh yeah, you you
86:16 deserve it, man. Go ahead and upgrade to Ivy Bridge. Um Haswell is going to be
86:20 faster, but you can always end up waiting for the next thing, and you're going to get a definite performance
86:24 increase from that upgrade. Uh, merit.
86:28 How difficult is it to water cool GPUs if you are already custom cooling the
86:31 CPU? Not that difficult. Actually, the hardest thing about water cooling a GPU
86:36 is installing the graphics card water block. But if you're very careful and
86:40 you pay special attention to the instructions, you shouldn't have too much trouble. So, let's go GPU water
86:46 block guide. Let's see what comes up.
86:50 There's one from Singularity Computers. There's one's from Troubar. There's one
86:54 from Daz Mode. And hey, it's Daz mode. He's Canadian,
86:58 too. And there's me. So, I show you how
87:02 to install a full cover water block on a GPU. As long as you watch that video and
87:07 figure that you can handle that, then go for it. Have fun. It's
87:13 good. Oh, Rubet, can you recommend a cheap gaming
87:17 laptop? That's like asking me if I can
87:21 recommend, you know, a a delicious um you know, a delicious bottle of urine
87:28 or wait, no, it's more like bottle of I
87:33 don't know, um apple juice. I like apple juice. Orange Tropicana. It's like uh
87:38 yes, it's like asking me for I don't know. It's contradicting. Gaming laptops
87:43 aren't cheap because the CPUs, the GPUs,
87:47 the displays, everything about them is
87:50 expensive. So, no, maybe buy one used. I don't
87:57 know. Darien, can you build a computer
88:00 for me? I will tell you all the parts I
88:04 want and pay you for the assembling fee. Please tweet me back. You know what?
88:07 Let's tweet back, Darien. I wonder if he's still watching the stream.
88:13 Let's tweet him back. Let's say is $1,000
88:19 o is
88:23 $1,000. Think he's going to say? You think he'll do it? I'll tell you what.
88:28 If he does it, then I will I will spend
88:31 $500 of the assembly fee that was collected buying some high-end graphics
88:36 card and I will give it away on Twitter. Let's see if he does it.
88:42 Okay, moving down. Uh, Shelby, I just wanted to say
88:47 thanks for making videos and educating me. I ordered my first order from NCX
88:51 yesterday. Way to go, Shelby. You did
88:56 good. All right, we've got only three minutes left,
88:59 guys. No, I promised a test for the XFX
89:03 WD cooling system, but never did one. Um, you know what? I'd totally forgotten
89:06 about it. So, in all likelihood, it's probably not not coming. Um, cuz there's
89:12 enough sort of new video cards coming out and everything that I'm pretty busy.
89:16 But, uh, yeah, I'm I'mma leave I'mma leave that for
89:22 now. Rhino Rager wants to know, "Why is
89:26 it that when I record, I watch it, it's so choppy?" Um, are you talking about
89:31 recording games? I'm going to need some clarification. Maybe resend that
89:35 question next week. Um, if you're talking about recording games, if you're
89:38 talking about recording videos or whatever else the case may be, if you're
89:42 talking about recording this live stream, then maybe just watch it on
89:45 YouTube after. I don't know. Moving right
89:55 along. Ah, Dali wants to know if I can
89:58 speak some French.
90:09 I told him I couldn't in French. Basically, it's too difficult. It's been
90:13 a long time since I've really spoke any French. Uh I I'm not My vocab is I can't
90:18 remember anything anymore. Joseph wants to know, "Do I personally like NCX's
90:22 site design?" Answer truthfully. I will answer truthfully, but partially. I
90:27 liked it eight years ago.
90:40 CJ, sorry to repost this, but I want an expert opinion. I just bought two
90:44 EVGA480s. Is it still relevant or should I upgrade? As long as you're okay with
90:48 the heat they kick out, then they're fine. I mean, you probably only paid a
90:52 couple hundred bucks each, which is still a very valid price for those
90:56 cards. 200 bucks for something that's essentially equivalent to a GTX 570 um
91:01 except kicks out more heat um and scales
91:04 pretty well in SLI for me card. It's actually more powerful for CUDA than a
91:09 570. So yeah, totally
91:13 fine. And I think we're pretty much done here, guys. One
91:19 more one more tweet. Let's take the top
91:22 tweet once I reload this and then we are
91:25 pretty much gonna wrap it up here. So, let's switch back to
91:29 here. All
91:33 right, Alexis. No, that's not really a question. Sorry,
91:38 Alexi. Rumble Muffin wants to know why is it
91:42 that 11 CPU is only clocked to 4 GHz in
91:45 my benchmark videos? Because that was a quick and easy overclock. It's something
91:49 I know that anyone with that CPU will be able to obtain, attain, obtain, attain.
91:55 So, as long as I use a setting that I
91:58 know other people can replicate, then my testing is therefore easily
92:05 replicable. I've clearly had enough of this. So, I'm a eager eager eagerly
92:11 awaiting cameraman to show up with the iPhone 5 and uh you know, maybe we'll
92:14 stream that. Don't forget guys, if you aren't already, make sure you are
92:19 subscribed on YouTube, Linus TechTips. Subscribed on YouTube,
92:23 NCIXCOM, following me on Twitter at Linus Tech, and subscribed on Twitch
92:29 because all those different places get all kinds of different content that I
92:34 work every day on producing just for you. So, thank you for watching and
92:39 don't forget to subscribe.
92:47 moment when you have to use the mouse
