0:00 this the pre live stream live stream this is not the real live stream I'm
0:05 just getting everything going right now making sure Firefox is my default
0:09 browser which is a very important thing to do because Firefox is pretty much the
0:15 bomb I also need to actually open up the Twitch TV chat so that I can sort of
0:20 monitor what you guys are doing over there set up some monitor ators
0:25 t.tv Linus Tech I also made the YouTube video a
0:29 little bit early this week so I screwed up and it said the live stream is now
0:34 and so if anyone actually follows this over here from YouTube then they'll be
0:37 really disappointed if there's no live stream and I didn't want anyone from
0:41 YouTube to be disappointed tonight and I don't want anyone from
0:46 from twitch to be disappointed either there's a red dot holy crap look at the
0:51 look at the chat there's a red dot
0:54 wow all right there we are hey
0:58 everybody how's my sound tonight is it better are we good are we cool it's way
1:03 better right yeah yeah we know it's live you guys you guys in the chat you guys
1:06 are unbelievable how many times do you need to say that it's live there's a red
1:11 thing in the corner yeah we don't have any topics yet
1:15 so I'm I'm just here kind of chilling for
1:19 now uh I do have some topics for tonight
1:23 I'm G to put them I'll put them here in my Chrome window see I'm doing something
1:28 with them see I'm putting them there and then I'm going to change back to
1:32 that okay topics for tonight someone wanted me to do a lonus career tips
1:38 segment so what the hey right I mean if
1:41 you're going to take advice from a guidance counselor then you might as well take advice from
1:46 me not that there's anything wrong with being a guidance counselor it's just
1:50 like I don't think anyone goes to their guidance counselor's office and they're
1:53 like yeah I really want to be a guidance counselor how do you be just like you um
1:57 I just I just don't think it happens I mean it might I could be totally wrong I
2:01 mean shout out to all the guidance counselors in the audience thank you for
2:06 guiding us I mean I was having a funny conversation with someone um this must
2:11 have been about it must have been about two days ago and basically I was
2:16 marveling at the job that I have
2:20 because uh it wasn't that long ago that YouTube didn't exist I mean I graduated
2:24 from high school in 2004 which basically means that YouTube
2:30 didn't exist yet and I had actually completely forgotten that there was no
2:34 YouTube when I was still in school so how could any guidance counselor have
2:39 told me that I could you know what I'm going to turn off the audio monitoring
2:43 here because it's driving me crazy I can hear this echo in my head um so I was
2:48 marveling that no guidance counselor could have ever told me oh yeah you know
2:51 what you can uh you can be like a YouTube guy as like a job and that can
2:56 be part of your job or it can be your whole job or it can be can be anything
3:00 and AO you are right on time because we are just starting actually in five
3:04 minutes this is just the the pre-show so maybe you know what maybe I'll do that
3:08 story later I'm G to be like the radio where I pre-announce what stuff I'm
3:12 going to talk about and then I actually don't talk about it for like 15 minutes
3:16 and I make you guys sit through commercials let's do like uh let's do an
3:19 iPhone
3:22 commercial I don't remember the Apple music
3:36 that is a pre-show Dance I mean singing I'm singing and dancing what do you guys
3:41 mean do a pre-show yeah LOL don't I know right uh hold on I got to pop out the
3:45 chat as well let me just hold on ah first first wait first let me just make
3:49 a note in my topics for tonight email thread that I started to myself I mean
3:53 who emails themselves do you guys email yourself are you like uh grocery
3:57 shopping and you're like oh that's a great idea and you just send myself an email I do it all the time I actually
4:01 get as many emails from myself as I get from anyone else so I need to tell the
4:06 story oh crap I don't even remember what story I was telling anymore tell the
4:10 story about guidance counselors counselors I don't remember
4:14 how to spell counselors but it's not autocorrecting me so let's assume that
4:18 that's right all right sweet so I need to see who all is in the chat here so I
4:23 can see if I have any moderators tonight oh I've got fuzzy otter balls sweet and
4:29 I have four moderators what do you guys think is four moderators enough for
4:32 tonight we had some spam last week and that was pretty obnoxious and I do like
4:36 to have the chat on fast mode I do prefer that uh need more need more how
4:43 to be mod this guy is a moderator in the
4:46 future all right Evo you can be oh no you can't be a moderator I don't even
4:50 see the option here couple more mods wouldn't hurt all right L okay it's
4:53 moving too fast it's moving too fast how do I freeze it do you guys hey fuzzy
4:58 otter balls you guys need other than fast mode and slow mode you need a
5:01 freeze button so I can just freeze it for a sec unless you have that and I
5:05 just don't see it yeah I don't see that so yeah fuzzy otter balls great idea
5:09 free of charge freeze mode
5:13 um okay try try and hit someone here I'm
5:17 not even getting the option you know what four should be enough four should
5:22 be enough how many people do we have watching the stream so far wow we've got 500 people watching and the show hasn't
5:27 even started yet I should do this pre-show thing more often because
5:30 apparently you guys will watch even when I'm not doing any kind of a live show I
5:34 should just not do a live show at all I should just do a live stream about how
5:37 I'm not doing a live show tonight maybe that'll be next week can I get some can
5:41 I get some votes for that idea what do you guys think pretty good pretty cool
5:45 all right let me move this uh let's move this twitch Chat thing here I'm going to
5:49 move the uh the live stream monitoring thing so that I don't have to look at it
5:53 I'm just going to keep it open in the corner there so I can make sure it's actually working so guys I have made
5:58 some serious serious upgrades to my
6:02 setup tonight and I want to tell you all about it in the two minutes leading up
6:05 to our live stream so number one is I have replaced the headset I was using
6:10 before that ancient ass steel series or
6:13 rather steel series no Sennheiser one I have replaced that with a steel series
6:17 7h which I love and the mic is awesome and the headphones are awesome and I
6:22 have also changed I have found that the best sound card solution is the Zonar u3
6:28 so this is a little USB sound card that's fantastic I know the audio is
6:32 cracking I touched the uh I touched the mic if there's some weirdness going on
6:36 that's why I have I have the cap like propped under it here so that it won't
6:41 Foo bar itself also I have stopped using my power line connection and I have run
6:47 an Ethernet cable from all the way upstairs like through that door over
6:51 there upstairs to my switch and I have a
6:54 full gigabit connection down here this time so no more Wireless no more power
6:59 line I'm in the kitchen so there's a lot of powerful devices going on around here
7:03 that are that are like they're lined and their power and they're interfering with
7:08 my powerline network it's just not working for me I'm getting like three and a half megabytes per second um
7:13 overall and plus it's recording my live stream that I'm doing here to my Nas at
7:19 the same time as I'm streaming it so I think I just don't have the network bandwidth for it so having that gigabit
7:23 pipe is going to make things so much
7:26 better and Madness XL says Linus please read this and I did but I didn't see the
7:31 point because you didn't actually say anything but I think you would see I
7:35 don't H this is weird uh the mic quality is really not
7:39 that great yeah I know I know it's not that great but it's better than before
7:43 which is important actually we've got my
7:47 gear is on its way if you guys are following me on Twitter then you'll
7:50 probably already know this but uh if you're not following me on Twitter you
7:53 should follow me at Linus Tech um that's an at sign like you know Twitter thing
7:59 at I'm new to Twitter so it's sorry to it's sort of confusing to me like when
8:03 I'm reading tweets I'm like something something at Linus Tech but what they
8:06 actually mean is just something something lineus Tech and it just blows
8:10 my mind but uh yeah if you follow me on Twitter then you already know I just
8:13 spent 13 Grand yes that's one three with
8:17 three more zeros after it on New
8:24 Gear like yeah it hurts me I I actually got my shipping notification yesterday
8:29 so I bought myself an fs700 yes that is an
8:33 $8500 camera with the kit lens I bought myself a new shotgun mic I
8:39 bought myself two two HDMI capture cards so we are
8:45 going to be doing an a roll and a b roll in future unboxings we're going to have
8:50 two rolls um I bought myself a new tripod a
8:54 new head for the tripod uh what else did I get I got new
8:58 lights I got keynot flows it cost me
9:01 three grand for two of these things two kits with
9:04 stands um so we are talking some serious
9:08 serious upgrading in terms of the quality around here because right now I
9:12 am using a webcam and I am using this
9:15 microphone I'm using this sound card and
9:18 I'll also be using a desktop to capture all of the all of the video and all of
9:22 the audio in the future which is I mean I love this MSI notebook I really do
9:27 it's just it's a notebook and I I heart my my my desktop
9:32 experience uh the curry was amazing by the way you must follow me on Twitter
9:37 whatever your name is I missed it the it's the chat is moving so fast that I
9:41 can't even do it but uh yes the curry is excellent the uh oh yes see that right
9:47 there that is where the coconut rice lives see that's my tiger rice cooker
9:53 and that right there that is where the curry is and you are like so not having
9:57 any I am I am so I am so keeping that Curry for myself I'm going to have Curry
10:01 for breakfast tomorrow it's going to be outstanding and I'm going to I'm going
10:05 to I'm going to it's going to hurt me all day you guys are telling me to slow down
10:11 are you telling me to why don't I stream on my PC that's a fantastic question so
10:15 I have a new baby at home um he is 5 months old now and he is sleeping this
10:20 time of night um I know I've been asked quite a few times to adjust the timing
10:26 of my live streams so that I do them earlier in the day for people who live
10:29 on the east coast but the problem is that I just got home from work an hour
10:32 and a half ago and I knew that I had to figure out this microphone and I had to
10:36 figure out that Ethernet cable so if I committed to a start time of 8:00 or 7
10:41 o'clock my time or anything like that then I would have had a real problem
10:45 because I wouldn't have made it in time so there you go that's the that's
10:50 pretty much the deal um you know what I'm I'm going to pause for a second here
10:54 I want to check YouTube really quick just to make sure that my link is
10:58 correct I mean we've got a fair number of people watching the live stream
11:01 already but you know it just it never
11:04 hurts I mean I know I know what community made me big and I I love I
11:10 love twitch and I love that you know people are following me me on Twitch and
11:14 that's that's really cool stuff yep he says murder link is fail it looks like I
11:18 put the wrong Link in my video I do that kind of thing www.
11:24 twitch oh okay hold on no the link is fine what's he talking about link is
11:29 fail I'll show you a fail link I'll copy and paste it back in just in case I
11:34 screwed it up the first time there we go all right but yeah so I I hope that some
11:38 of you twitchers are are starting to follow along here and I know that I need
11:42 to do more like gaming Hardware type of Q&A otherwise there's zero justification
11:47 for having me on this website whatsoever but uh there's just so much stuff that
11:51 people are asking that's not really that related to that I will be taking
11:56 questions on Twitter tonight by the way guys I know that not all of you like
12:00 Twitter and um yeah there's just not a whole lot I
12:04 can do about that because Twitter is one of the most convenient ways for me to
12:08 manage incoming questions because I can control how quickly they come in whereas
12:12 the twitch chat is is pretty difficult for me to uh for me to for me to monitor
12:18 I mean stuff's coming in so so fast um
12:23 milova army says you have an sv650 I do
12:26 I have an sv650s and I am super duper disappointed
12:31 because my insurance ran out today so today was my last day to ride it and I
12:36 wasn't able to ride it because I was too tired this morning and uh it's not safe
12:41 to ride if you're
12:44 tired yeah so that that again yeah that
12:48 was that was super disappointing to me and I I'm having a hard time signing
12:51 into Twitter over here so I'm going to have to go find myself a browser where
12:55 I'm already signed into to Twitter and I'll I'll try using that one uh
13:01 uh maybe if I hadn't talked so much during the part of this pre-live stream
13:06 thing where I wasn't supposed to be talking so much maybe if I hadn't done that I would
13:12 be ready by the time the live stream was actually rolling let's see oh okay good
13:16 good good good good I think it's open in Firefox okay let's put where's my
13:21 where's my Firefox where's my Firefox where's my Twitter come
13:25 on need my Twitter there we go yes
13:30 I have Twitter now I was going to have Twitter open in uh in Safari just to
13:34 troll you guys and I was going to see if anyone noticed but uh it looks like
13:38 we're just going to stick with good old good old Firefox pretty much the best
13:41 browser ever um it crashes on me all the time but it's still better than
13:45 everything else so that should tell you what I think of pretty much everything
13:49 else there is out there uh show us your
13:52 baby my baby's in one of the videos that I've done so far
13:56 and um yeah he's I think he's cute I
13:59 tweet pictures of him every once in a while I think I was saying something about Twitter yes I'll be taking
14:03 questions predominantly on Twitter predominantly like this so that that
14:07 will be the main way of us of us handling questions here
14:12 tonight okay so let's kick this off let's start with my thing about guidance
14:16 counselors so I was I was marveling to to a friend that actually two things I
14:21 was marveling to a friend about that thing I talked about last week where um
14:25 kids today aren't going to know how to get anywhere because they're just going to rely on GPS for everything and we
14:29 were talking about just how fast the world's changing and I mean it's it's
14:33 crazy but it's almost been 10 years since I was in high school and I don't
14:36 really I don't really feel that much older but here I am I've been at a job
14:40 like in a career for six seven years now
14:44 um I have a baby I'm married I've bought a house so life is life is kind of just
14:49 going like this right and uh so yeah so YouTube didn't start till 2004 and I
14:54 graduated in 2004 which basically means
14:57 that um when I sat down and I was talking to my guidance counselor we
15:01 talked about a lot of things we talked about you know at the time I wanted to be a teacher or um you know I wanted to
15:07 get like a science degree and then I wanted to just kind of figure out what I
15:11 could do with that and I think the challenge that a lot of people who get
15:14 Science degrees run into is that they discover that really lab work um
15:20 continuing education I can't hear you people are saying they can't hear me
15:23 everyone else says it's fine so we're going to go with it's fine um lab work
15:27 they go with continuing education they get their master's degree and or they or
15:31 they go all the way to get their PHD and then they become professors which is
15:34 basically just teacher again and um I wasn't really very good at school and uh
15:40 anyway so okay so we're talking to right we're talking to the guidance counselor I'm all over the place tonight so I'm
15:45 talking to him we're talking about being a teacher so really the only options
15:50 back then if you wanted to be like U like you know a TV star or something I
15:53 mean reality TV was was around but it was very very limited um wasn't like it
15:59 is today there's no such thing as a Kim Kardashian there wasn't someone who was
16:03 you know like a Paris Hilton where they're a a socialite like that's their
16:06 that's their job description um so there was no way you know 8 nine 10 years ago
16:13 um eight years ago I guess that anyone could have advised me that this would
16:18 exist I mean never mind the the new setup I'm getting which is going to
16:22 allow us to do a fairly high production value live show on a weekly basis or
16:27 more than weekly basis or whatever we end up doing the ability to broadcast
16:32 basically almost I mean what then would have been TV grade quality stuff on an
16:38 on a com on a consumer internet connection uh from your house with like
16:43 I mean really in the grand scheme of things yes I just spent $133,000 on
16:47 equipment that's nothing compared to what that would have cost 10 years ago
16:53 nothing and uh so so yeah no one's been a chance I mean these these careers are
16:57 just popping up I was talking to my friend's dad he was like yeah when I was
17:01 a kid uh living on the island you had uh
17:04 you had a couple choices when you graduated high school you were going to
17:07 work in the mill for 40 years or you were going to work uh on the boats for
17:11 40 years everything is so different now
17:15 totally totally different um so yeah I think that's uh I think that's pretty
17:20 cool so speaking of guidance counselors my first topic tonight is uh people
17:24 someone asked I forget who requested this on Twitter but someone asked me to
17:28 do something online as career tips talk about the various careers and jobs that
17:32 are available in computers and it now I'm not going to talk about programming
17:36 I'm not going to talk about any of the professional stuff because I believe the
17:39 context he was asking this in was along the lines of what I do so I started as a
17:43 retail sales rep um as a retail sales rep you know what you can actually do
17:47 okay especially if you're knowledgeable I mean what I the approach I always took
17:52 was yeah I upsold people I always upsell
17:56 people because I actually genuinely believe no nobody should buy a TN
17:59 monitor I genuinely believe nobody should buy a video card for less than
18:03 $100 or like $89.99 when it's on promo
18:07 because the stuff that is under those under those price points is not good
18:12 they're not going to be happy with it um so if you are truly enthusiastic I think
18:17 that sales is easy I think that if you are really a car Enthusiast and you love
18:22 the cars and in your free time you come into the dealership and you drive all
18:27 the cars so that you are knowledgeable you're educated and you can inform
18:30 customers then you can actually do okay I mean as a retail sales rep at NC I
18:35 actually did better than I did for my first year after I transferred to head
18:38 office um the other one is Tech work Tech work is really challenging though
18:42 because there's a variety of different things available I mean is there anyone
18:46 in the audience who is a Best Buy Geek
18:49 Squad member I'm going to wait I'm going to wait for the leg I'm going to see if
18:53 anyone out there is a Best Buy Geek Squad member and tell us is it tough
19:02 no no me killer killer clown says says he is so there's there's a couple
19:07 different kinds of actually there's a lot of different ways you can do Tech you can do freelance so you can try
19:12 putting up like flyers everywhere and getting people to come and uh and bring
19:16 their computers to you for for for fixing and you know what you can
19:19 actually make a pretty good hourly rate but it's really hard to find clients if
19:23 you go to a bigger chain like someone like a Best Buy you can end up working in the store where you you get people
19:28 bringing in things like I mean honestly slick used to work at Best Buy as a tech
19:33 and the stories he tells I'm just
19:36 like what I mean he he one of the other
19:41 texts there actually advised the customer I forget the context of it but
19:44 advised a customer if he was going to if
19:48 he wanted to remove the screen on his laptop I don't even remember why the
19:51 customer wanted to do this but if he was going to do that he could just saw it
19:54 off and then there'd be a way to connect it and that's the kind of that's the
19:58 kind of ludicrous stuff that goes on there and then if you're one of the
20:01 mobile guys then you're then you're mobile so so basically if you're
20:05 freelance and you can get enough clients yeah you can do okay whereas if you join
20:09 one of those bigger chains they're going to try and pay you an hourly rate they're going to try and not give you a
20:12 ton of commission um something like NCI is somewhere in the middle where you
20:16 have enough clients you do get a decent Commission on everything you do and you
20:19 can make a decent living at it but if you're not willing to teach yourself it
20:24 comes down to the same thing as sales if you're not willing to read an antech
20:27 Tom's Hardware hardocp whatever sites you like whatever forums go to Hardware
20:31 connects if you're not willing to do it every day and help people and learn and
20:36 see what works and see what doesn't work then you'll be a total failure at it
20:40 back up the mic from my mouth okay there you go you guys good you cool um right
20:45 so so I did some sales I did a very small amount of tech they they didn't
20:49 want me doing Tech because I was really good at sales I was always selling like
20:53 these massive systems that had like dual graphics cards and stuff cuz I I
20:57 believed in this stuff I was like yeah stuff's cool you should totally buy it
21:01 so that I can build it for you and play with it before I give it to you I mean
21:04 that was that was the kind of guy I was right so um right so I mean you can
21:09 store manager um for store manager I'd say it's a totally different skill set
21:13 because you don't actually necessarily need to know anything about the
21:16 technology a good manager can manage anything I believe that's true the same
21:20 way that I believe a good salesman can sell anything however the overlap
21:24 between good salespeople like salespeople by nature and and guys who
21:29 are super into technology Enthusiast guys is actually not that big I mean
21:33 correct me if I'm wrong here guys but aren't we mostly a little bit introverted we mostly like to to be at
21:38 home on a Friday night I mean it's Friday night you guys are watching me so
21:42 I think we all know the answer to that
21:45 um so the way to succeed I think from that sales role or that Tech role is to
21:49 be that true Enthusiast who's really really trying to learn and really trying
21:53 to be passionate I mean I never uh I
21:56 never took a course for computer stuff I
22:00 just read and read and read all day all
22:04 night I'd be up till who knows in the morning uh reading every forum and every
22:09 review so even if I hadn't laid hands on a current generation motherboard I could
22:13 tell you how to overclock it I could tell you what CPUs were optimized for it
22:18 I could tell you what RAM Works what RAM doesn't work that's the only way you're
22:21 ever going to succeed okay moving right along uh
22:24 people who want to do this on the side you know I have a lot of people whether
22:27 it's posting on on the NCI Forum or whether it's messaging me they tell me
22:31 lonus I want to like build computers for people and uh you know I want to like
22:35 buy the parts at the local store and you know get a relationship with them so I
22:39 get a good deal and then I want to build it for someone and then I want to make a
22:42 couple bucks and I always tell these people the same thing and I I feel bad
22:46 because it's bad news and I don't like giving people bad news
22:50 but the reality of it is there is no money in it I mean I don't know if you
22:54 guys know this or if you understand this but in the IT industry on a board
22:59 there's no profit so the best discount
23:02 like the best deal you're going to get from whatever store you're working with
23:05 is probably a couple perc off and when we're talking something that costs $200
23:09 we're talking like $5 maybe $10 if
23:12 you're really persistent off of off off
23:15 of a sticker price okay so then how much
23:19 can you charge someone to assemble a PC for them I mean usually uh I mean NC
23:23 charges 50 bucks and they throw in a one-year warranty let me tell you if you
23:27 have One support issue with that PC that
23:31 50 bucks is gone it's gone you just have
23:34 to be sure that everything you sell is going to not come back um so yes okay so
23:40 there's no money in assembling it because you know guys like HP or those
23:44 those those those big box guys are just you know building these things on
23:47 assembly lines like this how you going to compete with that and then you got stores like an NC or you've got guys
23:53 like an IB power who are assembling the PCS with a production system behind it
23:57 so that it costs them very little to do um so there's no money there either the
24:01 the recommendation I give to these people is if you're still in high school
24:05 and you're just looking to like make five bucks on the side or 10 bucks here
24:08 and there and you're looking to uh do it as a hobby where you're you know you're
24:13 helping people you're letting people come to you and you're just kind of
24:16 being like yeah you know hey let me let me assemble it for you I'll you can take
24:19 a couple bucks for Consulting with them and helping them get better value out of
24:23 the system I mean that was one of the things I always love doing people would bring me these computers and they'd be
24:27 like spending $2,000 and I'd look at it and I'd go you're buying an extreme
24:31 Edition your computer costs $2,000 that is a terrible value you
24:36 shouldn't be buying an extreme addition unless your computer costs $5,000
24:40 otherwise the balance is completely out of whack it's not right you need to be
24:44 spending Less on your CPU and you need to you need to amp up your graphics card
24:48 performance in order to make a more balanced rig so I'd go I'd do a couple
24:51 things sometimes I'd get them the same performance and I'd lower the price by a
24:55 little bit or other times I'd go look you're spending this much money let me
24:59 help you let me get you 20% 30% better performance and uh so if you're able to
25:04 do that as someone who's doing this on the side then that's one of the ways that you can distinguish yourself as
25:08 well again it's not going to work without super hard work and researching
25:13 everything you have to be sure because One support call will cost you anything
25:16 you could have possibly made on that transaction um oh yeah this was this was
25:22 an idea I had oh crap you know what I'm totally going to bail on you guys for a
25:25 second so let's um let's let's put up
25:29 like I don't know the Twitter feed or
25:32 something I'll be back in like one moment and there's no one behind you why
25:35 do people keep asking me this it's a window crying out loud see it's me see
25:40 the ARM see the ARM behind me it's me calm down just a sec
26:12 okay so for those of you who do want to do a little bit of tech work on the side
26:15 you know don't let me be too discouraging because if you're doing it for the fun then you can always do
26:19 things for fun all right so I wanted to do a little thing called what to keep in
26:23 your Tech bag and I thought I'd bring out my own backpack yes that is a
26:28 Windows Vista backpack so just deal with
26:32 it I happened to like Windows Vista I think it's good I think Windows 7 is
26:37 really not that different all right so number one I have a tablet in my bag
26:41 tablets are handy because if you need to be looking something up or doing
26:46 something other than the computer you're working on you can't rely on the
26:49 computer you're working on in order to you know uh give you instructions for
26:53 something I mean if even if you're working on a computer for someone don't be afraid to just Google it and uh and
26:58 get help because no one can remember absolutely everything so uh so a tablet
27:03 is huge because that way you can be referring to that while you uh while
27:06 you're doing something else on the computer even if it's rebooting or even if it has like serious problems and it's
27:11 like super bogged down and slow uh okay
27:14 let's go into the other bag here what else we got in here oh okay these are my
27:18 shoes don't worry about that that's that's not normally in there I had my
27:22 shoes in my bag because I was uh I was riding my bike to that to that social
27:26 media conference and uh so I I had to wear my riding boots okay
27:30 I keep a camera in mind that's not necessarily necessary for you however I
27:35 mean something kind of cool that uh that I used to do when I was painting houses
27:39 is I always take a before and after picture never hurts to have a proper
27:42 camera on you lots of lots of folks you know are big into oh yeah my phone's got
27:47 like eight megapixels and blah blah blah but the reality of it is image quality
27:52 okay image quality is about light it's
27:56 simple physics the more surface area on the sensor and the
28:00 bigger the Optics the better the image it's not about megapixels so you can
28:05 take that to the bank all right putting aside my camera
28:11 what else we got in here okay I always keep a couple spare components in this
28:16 case I've got more than enough but uh you know I'll always keep a stick or two
28:20 of RAM um you know like a crappy video
28:23 card a crappy Nick you should always have a crappy inter uh Network work hard
28:28 because you never know when you're going to run into some stupid issue where
28:32 you're trying to download like an antivirus and their Nick is dead and
28:37 they don't have another computer you can't download new drivers um total
28:42 total disaster you always want to make sure that you're connected and that's
28:45 one of the things that the tablet will help with as well so a little bit of
28:48 spare Hardware maybe you don't keep it in your backpack but keep it somewhere
28:51 close by uh ah yes if you guys watch my
28:55 show you'll know the iconic screwdriver always have a screwdriver driver always
28:59 have ah this in the end of my screwdriver I keep five things I know
29:05 there are exactly five I have a slote head okay I have a standard Robertson
29:11 this comes in handy all the time not for computers mind you I have a really
29:14 skinny Phillips head and it's not focusing on this but whatever you get
29:17 the point I have a really wide Phillips head okay so more torque for uh for
29:23 strip screws stuff like that and I keep
29:26 a very strong needle I keep a needle in
29:30 here because needles are useful for all kinds of stuff whether it's you know
29:34 pulling pins out of a Molex connector or whether it's just like poking at
29:38 something to get some dust out of it you know like maybe there's some Gunk stuck
29:42 in a connector you got to get it out of there always keep a needle on you very
29:46 very important um and then of course my standard phillips head which is the one
29:50 that I keep loaded at all times and I get asked a lot what screwdriver is this
29:54 this is a Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver it costs about 100 bucks ailable in a
29:58 wide variety of colors I didn't pay $100 for it it was a gift I would never pay
30:01 $100 for a screwdriver CU I'm totally cheap but um whatever needl noose pliers
30:07 if you don't have needlenose pliers in your Tech bag then you suck give up
30:11 don't bother anymore uh the same goes for uh where are my uh where are they y
30:17 here we go okay cut offs these are great for
30:22 cutting off zip ties you need to have these you must have these if you don't
30:25 have these you suck get get them they're cheap you can get them at the dollar
30:28 store okay this is not related this is my battery case for my iPhone that
30:32 doesn't work anymore because you know what I'm I'm putting that in as a topic
30:36 later I hate micro USB micro USB is the stupidest connector that ever existed
30:40 micro USB I hate it I'm putting that in as a topic right now we're going to talk
30:44 about that later okay what else we got in here I always keep an extra SLI
30:48 Bridge because you never know you might be working on a high-end computer you
30:52 might I have seen defective SLI Bridges cause all kinds of weird crap ah adapter
30:58 if you don't keep adapters in your Tech bag you suck because you will never
31:02 succeed if you don't have adapters where's my DVI to VGA
31:07 adapter okay apparently I suck because I don't think I have it right now but
31:12 normally I have a DVI to VGA adapter I have a mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter
31:16 I have an HDMI to DVI adapter if you want to get yourself the best kind of
31:20 HDMI to DVI adapter get the kind that
31:23 has the analog pinouts even though they don't do anything because otherwise
31:28 DVI cables will not plug into it so there's ones that don't have those
31:33 analog pins holes even though they're not connected to anything and you
31:36 physically can't plug it in stupid it's ridiculous um right always have a set of
31:42 Jeweler screwdrivers because you never know when those are going to come in handy to get in somewhere tight I mean
31:46 even just a standard phillips head one just if you have to like kind of get in
31:49 somewhere and screw something in very very very handy I keep a three-way SLI
31:55 bridge but not everyone not everyone's going to run into that all the time I I
31:58 encounter that more often than most card reader always have a card reader always
32:02 always always uh I have an adapter here because
32:06 you never know when one of these will come in handy this is a single three pin to dual three pin adapter it's great for
32:11 plugging in more fans than you otherwise have another card reader this one does
32:14 compact flash as well those are both usb3 card readers because I'm a baller
32:18 uh more SLI Bridges this is this is not necessary but different lengths of SLI
32:23 Bridges might come in handy this is yet another screwdriver this one has torqus
32:27 though um if you do any water cooling you might run into a need for Torx if
32:30 you ever have to remove um modern video cards some of them are using stupid
32:35 torque screws because manufacturers apparently don't want you removing the
32:38 stock heat sinks um so yeah you should have that Allen Keys always have Allen
32:42 Keys you never know when an allen key is going to come in handy aha this is a
32:46 good one Molex teda power adapter keep
32:50 these on you at all times because you never know when someone's going to give
32:54 you a simple simple job like install a hard drive for me you show up at the job
32:59 you're like yeah cool I'll install a hard drive for you no big deal and you're you're laughing to yourself
33:03 because you're like yeah it's gonna take like five minutes and then they don't have any
33:08 extra SATA connectors on their power supply and you're like
33:12 no keep one of these on you very important actually you should probably
33:16 also have a dual MOX to PCIe adapter as well that's one of the things I don't
33:20 have in here I always keep a couple of water cooling barbs on me because I
33:23 never know when I'm going to be one short I always keep aha this is a cple
33:28 different things here we go okay I always have a bunch of SD cards on me
33:31 but I'm like a YouTuber so that's more relevant for me than it is for you uh
33:35 and I always keep a variety of USBS on me okay so these two have mostly the
33:40 same crap this is all my benchmarking utilities all my diagnostic utilities um
33:45 this one doesn't work in usb3 ports anymore for some reason so this is kind
33:48 of my replacement for that one I'm in transition right now though I'm in
33:52 transition um and never trust a USB drive always make sure that you have it
33:56 set to sync when you plug it into your master computer this guy right here is
34:00 cool because it has a variety of different Windows operating systems on
34:03 it just pull them off the disc I did a guide on this on the NCI Tech tips
34:06 channel so I keep them in folders you just pull everything out into the folder
34:10 put it into the rout you install off USB it's really really fast so if you ever
34:14 have to reformat an OS you're going to save yourself at least half an hour if
34:17 you have a USB drive with all the relevant Windows os's already in there
34:21 ah this is a specific tool you need to get yourselves one of these this is a
34:25 motherboard standoff screwdriver so it's kind looks kind of like a jeweler
34:29 screwdriver super super handy you want one of
34:33 these okay um I have a badminton racket
34:36 grip but that might not be relevant to everyone and I think that pretty much oh
34:39 yes business cards make sure you always have business cards in your bag because
34:42 if you don't have business cards and you suck because no one will remember you
34:46 unless you like show up in a clown hat oh yes and remember the best kind of
34:50 nerd food is fast nerd food always carry a
34:55 fork so there that is my segment on what
34:59 is in my bag um and my bag is extremely
35:02 deep this bag can hold anything oh look rumble's visiting us come here sweetheart come here baby oh there he
35:07 goes say hi everybody say hi say hi say
35:14 hi to everyone you're not going to say hi can you yell at them can you show
35:19 them how you yell hey there you go
35:26 sweetheart can you show them how you talk come here Rumble
35:36 Rumble can you talk for them he's not going to talk for you well he did it
35:41 once he did it once so what a good boy see say hi everyone do you guys want to
35:46 know what I think is the most beautiful thing about this cat it's the imperfections that make them special if
35:50 you guys are watching an HD you'll be able to see that in this eye right here
35:54 he has what's kind of a a weird spider
35:57 web thing going on it crosses his pupil vet says it's fine and it's he's fine
36:02 and it doesn't hurt him and it's uh and uh you know you can remove it for
36:06 Aesthetics but I think it makes him more beautiful because he's my little man and
36:11 maybe he'll visit with us for a little bit all right so why don't we do a
36:16 little bit of Q&A for a bit I know we're half an hour into the show and uh L this
36:21 uses fake meow it's not very effective excellent love that um
36:28 oh I think I bet you guys can hear him purring he's uh see he's he he'll grab
36:32 my he'll grab my ARM here show them how you grab my
36:36 hand there you go see see him grab my hand so cute my sweetheart okay actually
36:42 you can get down now uh where where we going with that it's been 30 minutes
36:48 yeah it's been 30 minutes I know right so let's do yeah let's do some Q&A I
36:51 haven't been any Q&A yet so we're going to head over to Twitter and uh see if we
36:55 can see if we can chat things up a little bit here let get this zoomed in a little bit
37:01 so you guys can actually see what the hey we're talking about no trusty video
37:05 card in my bag no I don't have a video card in my bag although normally I would
37:09 I don't do nearly as much Tech work as I used to all right slanted pillow asks I
37:14 want to upgrade my RAM eight or 16 gig when is 16 gigs needed there are very
37:18 few people that need 16 gigs today gamers are not one set of those people
37:24 people who do 3D rendering people who do video editing with After Effects they
37:28 need 16 gigs so actually this RAM that's in my backpack here is to upgrade the
37:33 rendering machine that diesel has said that we really need more RAM in so we're
37:38 going to throw 32 gigs of RAM at the problem and see if that takes care of
37:43 everything uh okay moving right along
37:46 Linus GTX 590 or 680 if a 590 is cheaper
37:50 I'm personally going for a 590 but the reason is that I already have a water
37:54 block for it if I was going to choose between the two and they were similar in
37:58 price I would go with the 680 it is much more power efficient and it kicks out a
38:02 lot less heat into your room um so yeah performance is going to be better on the
38:06 590 bear that in mind but heat is an
38:10 issue especially in the summer lus your
38:13 sound is worse it is not everyone else says it's better who says that Ethan sck
38:19 I'm sorry I'm sorry Ethan but you're doing it wrong actually I don't know it
38:23 could be could be to do with anything I yeah I don't know
38:28 all right hi Linus I know you say any
38:31 sound card is better than none but is there any sub $100 value sound card
38:36 you'd recommend you know what actually there is let's go ahead let's go to full
38:39 screen here and we're going to go nci.com because that's the place I work
38:44 and we're going to search for ASUS Zonar this is how I shop for sound cards I put
38:49 in ASUS Zonar and then I find the price I want to go for I find the one that
38:53 falls in that price and has a headphone amp and then I buy it so let's search
38:58 for yeah there it is the dgx if you're
39:01 going to use headphones you want a dgx if you're not going to use headphones
39:04 you want something like a D1 it doesn't matter neas Zonar is a good sound card
39:09 so don't worry too much about it uh jarus what is your opinion of
39:14 braided cables sold by manufacturers for their modular power supplies are they
39:18 worth it absolutely not they're not worth it at all they're worth it only if
39:22 you want the aesthetic of the of the
39:25 aftermarket cables I mean that's pretty much it this is a purely aesthetic thing
39:29 there is no performance benefit to it whatsoever if anything if I think you're
39:33 talking about those individually sleeve cables if anything individually sleeved
39:37 cables are are less effective for your
39:40 airf flow um than than a massively just
39:44 single sleeved uh single sleeved Bunch because it actually splits it up and
39:48 makes the cables more bulky so I personally like the look I'm I'm double
39:53 sleeving my CBL so I'm not doing every individual wire but I'm doing every two
39:56 with one sleeve and uh to me it's it has a value but not
40:00 to everyone Donald oh man Donald my PSU
40:06 popped what are the chance my other components got overloaded you know what
40:10 these days less likely especially guys like Gigabyte build a lot of fail safes
40:15 into their motherboards to keep surges from spreading too far but it could have
40:20 happened the only way to know for sure plug in a new power supply and find out
40:23 what happens if the uh if the magic Blue Smoke Gets released from your Hardware
40:28 then you'll
40:31 know Tim which is better for radiators
40:35 if you only have room for one set of fans push or pull for performance it
40:40 actually doesn't make a difference um for performance it's pretty much
40:44 identical it's been tested time and time again um however I always use pull if I
40:50 can and the reason for that is if you have a radiator here and you have fans
40:54 pushing this way the dust accumulates
40:57 under the blades of the fan on the radiator fins it's very hard to clean
41:02 especially if you get any buildup if you're pulling air through the radiator
41:06 dust accumulates on the fins here still but you can easily just kind of grab it
41:11 and take a Dust Bunny and throw it away or you can just blow on it and it'll all
41:14 come free so that's the reason why I use pull that Tech guy I am only answering
41:20 questions on Twitter right now however I do keep an eye on the twitch chat so
41:24 every once in a while I uh I I do stuff
41:29 uh lonus I tweeted at you in like the pre-show does that mean you'll never read it ever um honestly probably not I
41:34 I only really do I can only do so many questions I mean you guys tweet a lot of
41:38 stuff at me and I'm not going to talk too much about how much stuff you guys
41:41 tweet at me because that will waste the time that I can spend answering questions slick no way Slick's tweeting
41:46 at me that's the real slick by the way if you guys aren't following at slick PC
41:51 on Twitter just stop stop watching right now go follow slick PC on Twitter
41:55 because he's going to be tweeting all kinds of cool cool stuff he's got some really neat pictures of a modded Cosmos
42:00 2 that his brother's working on very cool stuff so he I don't know that's
42:05 just a response to someone else so that's uh all right Mr DJ here is the
42:10 7970 gigz Edition better than the 680 no
42:14 um neither of them are really better than the other especially once you overclock both of them to the max
42:18 they're very very close to each other 7970 and GTX 680 if you want 3D Vision
42:24 if you want fiz X go with the NVIDIA card if you don't if you want the better
42:29 multim monitor experience go with the 7970 figure out I mean what's your plan
42:33 in the future what are you going to do if you want multim monitor go radon if
42:38 you don't then don't then don't all
42:44 right Josh Josh hey what is the best HDMI and
42:49 what do you think I think the best HDMI
42:53 is um the HDMI that is like
42:57 actually you know what I don't I'm sorry I don't know how to answer that question
43:01 um HDMI HDMI is good actually I don't
43:05 really like HDMI I'm a big fan of DVI
43:08 because it carries more bandwidth than HDMI although HDMI 1.4 whatever I think
43:13 it's 1.4 compliant devices with the faster processing chip are finally
43:17 caught up to DVI um I mean DisplayPort is the way of the future HDMI is
43:22 honestly holding back things like 4K I mean 4K is supported at 24 FPS s which
43:27 just sucks um it's holding back things like 3D cuz 3D is all like a ghetto sort
43:33 of compressed thing with HDMI it's not truly fast enough for really anything
43:37 these days um although I did discover some really cool HDMI cables recently
43:42 check this out check this out so you know what we're just going to make this
43:45 big here so I was on mono price if you guys don't know mono price mono price is
43:49 kind of amazing because they have everything and it's uh it's this stuff
43:53 so I need no no this stuff this stuff it's called red mirre so I need some
43:57 long HDMI cables that are thin and redm
44:01 allows you to have a 28 AWG wire and up
44:05 to a 60ft cable for like 75 bucks which is absolutely outstanding um I'm super
44:11 super impressed with with that whole idea and uh so I'll be using that for
44:17 for my camera as I'm like as I have someone floating around with the camera
44:20 taking b roll footage during an unboxing I'm going to have that long wire running
44:25 without the weight on the HDMI connection that would cause it to break
44:28 so uh I think that's really cool that seems like kind of a newer neerish thing
44:33 so yeah I'm super super excited about that uh Matthew says mini USB are slow
44:39 and crappy yes they are I hate them actually they're not slow they're just
44:43 USB but but they're crappy I hate them they break they suck all right I
44:48 accidentally clicked the thing I don't want to do that I want to just scroll down scroll down air what has micro USB
44:54 ever done to you it breaks and it sucks it's not as good as min and it's not
44:57 much smaller and hey I'm saving this rent for later you guys are killing me
45:02 here um Adrian says is SSD of different brands really differs a lot in terms of
45:07 durability I just bought a hyperx 3K is it durable compared to Intel uh the
45:11 answer would be probably not Intel doesn't really spec out what PE cycle
45:16 chips they're using for their drives I know on the 520s they're using 5K PE
45:20 which basically means that drive will inherently last about 66% longer than
45:25 the drive you just bought and a regular hyperx drive not the 3K will actually
45:29 last longer as well however even with a 3K PE cycle um with the intelligence of
45:35 the of the wear leveling algorithms in modern ssds you really don't have to
45:39 worry about it that much I mean it's um
45:42 by the time your SSD dies due to the
45:46 flash degrading 120 gigs will be
45:49 absolutely laughable it'll be stupid it'll be like it'll be like sort of 5
45:54 years from now or like it'll be like five years ago being concerned about
45:59 like your your 250 gig hard drive I mean
46:03 now you can buy a 500 gig hard drive for I mean okay less less so now because of
46:07 that flood but for a while there you could buy hard drives for like 40 bucks
46:11 um so yeah you're investing a lot in your SSD now but by the time it ever matters it'll be totally
46:16 worthless
46:22 um oh test tester says what was that camera test tester should follow me with
46:26 a real Twitter account and then maybe I'll answer his question actually no I'm
46:29 just messing with you it's an sx1 is this is the camera that I've been using
46:33 for years for my video blog um my
46:37 original one was actually awesome and didn't have a big fat scratch on the
46:41 lens and when that one died because I spilled chicken soup on it I had to
46:45 replace it and the sx1 I was gone and Canon didn't have a direct replacement
46:49 that was able to take great 1080p video
46:52 so I bought a used one that came with a scratch on the lens hence all the
46:56 complaints that I get from you guys about the autofocus there's nothing I
46:59 can do until my new camera arrives so I'm sorry and yes some of you hate
47:03 Twitter and then I I can't answer
47:06 questions for you I'm Sorry Devil Z I know I know I I I love you and
47:11 everything and I I do want to talk to you but you're you're going to need
47:14 Twitter um so yeah sx1 is new camera
47:17 coming so don't worry about it we we're going to get this taken care of all
47:21 right uh I painted houses yes I did paint houses I painted houses for two
47:25 summers with student Works
47:28 painting all right moving right along moving right along moving right along oh
47:34 who wants a shout out Jerry Guan wants a shout out hi Jerry oh my goodness it's
47:41 Jerry oh sorry I was thinking of Seinfeld Jerry
47:44 Guan huh no I'm just kidding yeah shout out to Jerry Guan okay lonus is NCIX
47:50 ever going International funny you should ask because NC is already in the
47:54 US which is sort of international to can Canada um as for what's going on with
47:59 any kind of future expansion honestly I'm like the YouTube guy I'm a product
48:04 manager I'm a category manager so I'm not exactly like you know like peon
48:07 level here like I used to be a retail sales guy but I still can't comment on
48:12 that kind of stuff when's the next personal rig
48:15 update honestly here's the problem right now I'm working on dremeling I get home
48:21 at around the baby's bedtime every day which means if I turn on a drel at
48:25 35,000 p.m. in my garage my wife will
48:28 kill me she will absolutely destroy me so this weekend I'm hoping to find some
48:32 time while he's awake to dremel out the CPU cutout and then I'll be able to
48:36 actually post post an update so I'm super excited about that uh Gabriel says
48:41 does NCI ship custom computers to the us the answer is yes but not really you
48:46 have to jump through some hoops email PC that is PC
48:52 nci.com and the Crazy Russian or Brian the gamer
48:57 will take care of you and they will they will get that sorted out for you okay
49:01 they will they'll make sure that you can buy a
49:05 PC all right Juan solo Juan solo that's
49:09 awesome that is just awesome ju solo Oh man uh do you think
49:16 College University is necessary for a job in it I would say it's not necessary
49:20 I'd say it's highly recommended I do not have a university or a college degree um
49:24 I'm doing all right but I have busted my tail it's not as easy um or maybe it is
49:30 I don't know I mean I never tried the other way so it depends what you want to
49:35 do I mean you want to be a programmer um you should probably get some education
49:38 unless you're really good at being self-educated uh if you want to be like
49:42 a technician or whatever else no totally not necessary but it really depends what
49:46 you're talking about I mean do you want to be a motherboard engineer then like
49:50 yeah then you're going to need school so it's a very vague question I'm sorry
49:53 Juan I just I saw your name and I was like oh my goodness he's going to ask me
49:58 about smuggling or like he's going to tell me about smuggling and I was going
50:01 to be like amazed I was going to talk about like the Kastle
50:04 run now I'm
50:12 disappointed all right let's see if we got any more questions Michael wants to
50:16 know what sort of Music are you into you know what just for lws let's have a look
50:21 at what's in my music library all right so I'm going to I'm going to pull this
50:25 over here we are totally going to just go to my music folder we are not even
50:30 going to censor any of this stuff so let's go I actually sort my music
50:34 according to folders still I I am I am actually that demented so let's go with
50:40 uh let's go with medium icon so you guys can actually see what we're dealing with
50:43 here so we've got some oh yeah we've got some terrible 90s like trance stuff uh
50:48 we've got some Abba all right we've got
50:51 Adam Gregory who was like a one- hit wonder got some Ace of Base um what
50:56 other terrible stuff do we have in here Alanis Moret Alanis Moret is a Canadian
51:00 hero uh yes I have one Justin Bieber song in here what else we got we got
51:05 some Bare Naked Ladies Bare Naked Ladies is good stuff Canadians Canadians all I
51:09 got some Backstreet Boys in here so my my music collection is probably one of
51:13 the most eclectic music collections you will ever encounter I listen to almost
51:19 everything um got some chumba WBA some
51:23 little bit of Coldplay some Carry Underwood See I'm going to I'm going to
51:26 I'm going to make you guys
51:37 suff yeah yeah so uh so yeah that's uh
51:41 that's that's that's all done now don't worry we're not going to I'm not going to do this to you anymore so basically
51:45 you made the mistake of asking me what kind of music I listen to and I made you
51:48 suffer so I think what you discovered is that you no longer want to
51:52 know okay and no don't don't un don't unsub because of my music taste come on
51:57 guys come on and sorry I didn't know
52:00 that that was really loud I'm really sorry I'm really sorry I I I haven't
52:04 tested that feature before however however I want you guys to oh no no I
52:09 want you guys to note this okay so we're going to search for some kind of uh some
52:14 kind of lonus video on Youtube hold on I'm GNA switch my view here so we're
52:18 going to search for like um lonus um lus
52:22 I don't know something um tech there that's a good keyword I should bring up
52:27 something all right let's go with this video the one where I like Hulk lift
52:31 this case so check this out check this
52:34 out have you ever had Deja Deja and I
52:38 want you guys to tell me if the sound level the headphone jack is
52:43 going is it working do you have sound good stuff so the Scout is more
52:49 along the with a rubber coating on the outside it's actually great you can
52:54 easily carry your system around like this especially stronger than me it's not quite like the
52:59 uh like on Theos 2 which have those those
53:03 beautifuls running down both sides of
53:06 the top of it but I mean this is a more Val and it has a rubberized on it
53:11 impr this is L handle is a really handy thing to have for your face because if
53:17 you're unboxing it you might find had
53:20 there we go had the case actually been full of a system I would not at all have
53:25 been able to do that so it's only because the case is pretty light and and
53:29 it was empty that I was able to do that I was able to do anything like that so
53:33 here let's uh let's bring me back let's bring me back uh no I do not lift
53:37 weights the only exercise that I have done in the last sort of two to three
53:41 years is playing badminton so what you guys will notice is that here I'll see
53:47 if I can show this to you my right ARM right here is significantly wider
53:52 especially here in the forearm say I'll Flex them both then my left ARM and
53:57 that's not for the reason you think it is that's because of badminton um and
54:02 actually now I uh now I'm swimming so I've been if you guys are subscribed to
54:06 my Twitter or following me on Twitter I always forget the terminology if you're following me on Twitter then you know
54:11 that I've been swimming in the mornings uh about three times a week and I'm
54:14 trying to get some endurance back some cardio so it's uh it's tough I mean it's
54:19 hard when you have a desk job because you just it's so easy to be totally
54:23 sedentary and not do anything but um yeah it's it's important it's really
54:29 important uh Pascal says I worked at Future Shop as a sales rep awful job I'm
54:34 sorry to hear that man I actually appli you oh oh wow funny story okay we're GNA
54:38 go off on a tangent here Future Shop so I applied to Future Shop when I was uh
54:42 when I was about I don't know 16 uh this is before I was working at NC before I'd
54:46 ever really had a real job and uh they had an online job in job interview like
54:51 an online application that you fill out and um it it's got all those it's got
54:55 those question C questions like um you
55:00 know if you saw a fellow employee shoplifting something trivial like
55:04 something small like five bucks or something and uh they were a close
55:08 friend of yours would you a say nothing
55:11 B talk to them quietly and ask them to put it back or C report it to a
55:16 supervisor and I answered honestly I would do B I wouldn't take it straight
55:20 to the supervisor i' talked to them first i' be like hey man that's not cool
55:24 and um so what I real what I did is I answered Ed the survey honestly as
55:28 opposed to filling in the obvious answer that they wanted to hear and um without
55:34 even taking long enough for anyone to review my application it rejected it and
55:39 so what I realized and it was totally unrealistic stuff like you'd have to be
55:42 some kind of like like unbelievable like straight arrow um
55:50 to to actually answer all these questions the way they wanted to hear it
55:53 and so what I realized is that Future Shops hiring policy at that time
55:58 prevented anyone honest from actually working there like if you were if you
56:02 were honest filling out the survey then
56:06 they wouldn't hire you period you had to you had to be like willing to lie at the
56:11 right time so um yeah I I never
56:14 reapplied not only did it not only did it reject my application but they told
56:17 me I couldn't reapply for like three or six months or something like that I was like 6 months I'm 16 man that's going to
56:22 be forever from now so I uh so I never ended up getting going there I mean hey
56:26 who knows things could have been totally different what if this was Future Shop
56:30 Tech tips I mean we were we were like this close to this being Future Shop
56:33 Tech tips and uh and it would be about like Monster
56:38 Cables no I would never do that don't worry guys I know better than
56:42 that okay Lewis asks me if you were to
56:45 choose another job in the tech industry what would it be you know what I've I've
56:49 actually thought about this because I like my job I love my job but it's super
56:53 stressful I work super hard I work long hours
56:56 if I was going to choose another job I would be a technician again I would
57:00 assemble PCS again because I actually still enjoy it and it's just not
57:05 stressful and um yeah yeah that's probably what I
57:10 would do I mean other than that I think I have the best job in the world I uh I
57:13 get to be a product manager I get to boss around the Russian all day and uh
57:17 and I get to make videos for you guys which is which is great it's fun so
57:23 let's go ahead and move down Pascal says yes I am Tech in small Comp Shop and yes
57:28 he's hard I'm just assuming that you know oh no oh no he's probably French
57:33 okay uh let's see if I can pull out a French accent yeah I probably can't do
57:36 it forget it I'm not going to try uh Joshua says what do you think
57:40 about Opera um I can't really sing it
57:44 but I I I mean I guess if it was playing
57:47 like and I was in a casino or something and it was just kind of playing like I
57:50 wouldn't leave because of it and I know that you mean the browser um I believe
57:54 it or not I have opera on my computer I very rarely use it the only reason I
57:58 have five browsers is so that I can keep track of sort of five different sets of
58:03 logins that are in all of them so it's just very convenient that
58:06 way okay moving right along
58:10 then lus please answer how does overclocking affect product lifetime I
58:15 would postulate that unless you're going really extreme and you're like trying to
58:19 break stuff so if you're staying reasonable you're staying within sort of
58:22 the community's generally accepted guidelines for how much voltage you
58:25 should should push through how much heat you should be outputting um how high you
58:29 should go probably not enough that it matters
58:33 however I have had a CPU die outright an overclocked CPU I have had CPUs degrade
58:38 on me to the point where they wouldn't overclock as high as they used to but
58:41 it's never really been relevant for me I mean I've always been I've always been
58:46 changing my Hardware before it ever mattered so I just sell it and then I
58:51 just say yeah it overclocks to this much and your mileage may vary and then I
58:54 don't worry too much about it put Twitter up please oh sorry guys
58:58 totally forgot about that there you go how can I wear the 7h I have one it's
59:02 literally put a dent in my head it's so heavy ah no way Shane I love the 7h 7h
59:07 is awesome it's lighter than the Vulcan it sounds better than anything else out
59:11 there like byy a long shot nope nope I love the 7h 7h headset buy one today
59:18 product placement for steel actually no they I mean they did give me this headset I did not pay for this headset
59:22 but I do love it it's my favorite I got rid of my HD 555 from Sennheiser that I
59:27 did pay for in exchange for these I had to pull these off of my personal rig
59:31 upstairs in order to wear them for this live
59:36 stream
59:39 okay yeah see this kind of stuff Mike you got it you got it bang on here the
59:43 speed that life changes is over 9,000 come to think of it I'm watching a
59:46 person over a thousand miles away talk at me live and I'm going to add to that
59:51 from his kitchen with technology that would have cost tens maybe hundreds
59:56 hundreds of thousands of dollars 10 years ago 20 years
59:59 ago all right you know what let's go ahead and let's catch up with some of
60:03 the new oh my goodness 395 new interactions okay you know what we're
60:07 not going to touch Twitter for a little bit I I love that you guys are are
60:11 adding me on Twitter and that you're tweeting at me and this is all really good stuff but I can only do so much so
60:16 we're going to move on to our next topic of the night which is used hard drives I
60:21 thought this was a really really good question from whoever I forget but he he
60:25 tweet tweet at me and this was earlier if if you tweet at me not during a live
60:29 stream uh the odds of getting through to me are actually a lot better um chat
60:33 room shout outs says ghost the capitalist ghost the capitalist shout
60:36 out to you yay yay um right so used hard
60:42 drives used hard drives are an interesting one so there's a couple
60:45 things number one is that hard drives generally fail within the first like 30
60:49 days or after the first couple years that's pretty much how it how it goes so
60:54 so if they're going to die they'll die right away or they'll wait a good while
60:58 and then they'll start to drop off gradually um so used hard drives
61:03 generally speaking if I was going to buy a used hard drive I'd look at a couple different things I'd look at who am I
61:07 buying this from um how much have they been using it is has this been sitting
61:11 in a NZ and has barely been used it hasn't been moved around it hasn't been
61:15 jostled it hasn't been bumped had um so
61:19 how old is it how old is it you can always know the manufacturing data of a
61:22 hard drive just by looking at the sticker on the top of it they all say um
61:26 number three is it's still under warranty because if you're buying a used
61:30 hard drive um that's not still under warranty that means it's at least a year
61:34 old okay what have they been using it for why are they getting rid of it um he
61:38 said that his work or his boss or something like that buys a lot of use
61:41 hard drives and doesn't really worry about it and my Approach there is I've
61:45 used lots of used hard drives and referb hard drives in my Windows Home Server V1
61:49 if you're doing regular and I mean regular frequent very frequent backups
61:55 then I actually don't inherently have a problem with using something like a used
61:58 hard drive um if you're if it's got to
62:01 oh yeah it's got to be shipped carefully that's another huge factor with hard drives you don't ship a hard drive
62:05 carefully dead hard drive um but yeah if it's been shipped carefully or you're
62:10 picking it up if it hasn't been used that heavily if it still has warranty I
62:15 think it's probably fine I wouldn't buy a used hard drive as readily as I would
62:20 buy something like a used CPU um or any passive component so
62:25 motherboard with no active cooling where you know that there's not much to wear
62:29 out other than the pwm um I would shy away from things like Ed power supplies
62:35 um video cards are a tough one because if they've overvolted the heck out of it
62:39 and if the fans weren out yeah it can it can go but some some guys like EVGA this
62:44 is one of their big advantages I know I talk a lot about the big three but EVGA
62:48 is a big deal for video cards so they have a Global Warranty that is tied to
62:52 the serial number not to the owner so um
62:56 that's a really good one if you're going to buy a video card yeah make sure is the warranty transferable so um some
63:01 guys like hard drives they don't care who bought it they're not going to ask you for an invoice whereas some things
63:05 like most video cards like motherboards sometimes um are going to actually ask
63:10 you to produce an original invoice and if you can't it's not going to be under warranty so that's something to consider
63:14 anytime you're buying something
63:17 used all right so let's talk about why I
63:21 hate micro USB and why it's the worst connection that ever existed this Con
63:25 connection is better than micro USB because it doesn't break so what's the
63:30 key difference between my iPhone 4 and my wife Samsung Galaxy S this is the
63:35 version one it's vibrant um my connector
63:39 still works every time when I want to charge my phone or back it up or pull
63:44 data off of it hers does not because micro USB is a big fat piece of crap
63:49 because if you at any point let's see if I have a micro USB cable here it's so
63:54 stupid I hate it um if at any point you
63:57 accidentally you know wiggle a micro USB cable the pins are so small and they're
64:03 so close together that it is incredibly easy for them to break off the piece in
64:07 the middle of the actual um female end
64:10 that that makes contact with the pins or bend it so it won't make contact anymore
64:14 it is so easy to break it off it is so easy to it's oh it's just fragile and
64:19 the thing that kills me most about it is that compared to mini be remember mini
64:22 be the one that used to be on every camera ever and it's kind of still on
64:27 every camera but used to be just everything see Min how much bigger than
64:32 micro USB is that like how much bigger is it this is this is a 100 times better
64:37 this is a 100 times more robust I mean I hate mini HDMI too I especially hate
64:41 micro HDMI but no actually I think mini HDMI is the worst I hate fragile
64:45 connectors so I don't have anything against um I don't have anything against
64:51 micro USB in particular but I hate fragile connectors in fact I hate HDMI
64:54 too compar comp to DVI compared to DisplayPort these are locking connectors every connector should lock
65:01 every connector should be durable I I really
65:06 just I mean come on my uh my my grandpa
65:09 has a has a Blackberry playbook that uh
65:12 he bought a while ago and you can make all the jokes you want about how it was useless the day he got it but it's
65:17 useless now because he can no longer charge it and it's like just over a year
65:20 old just stupid just just horrible um
65:25 Mini Is Not Fragile ghost the capitalist well it's fragile but it's not nearly as
65:29 fragile as micro uh Keen Pro asks what
65:32 phone do I have I'm going to let the rest of you in the chat answer that for him because I think most of you probably
65:37 know let's go and do some more Twitter
65:43 questions there we go okay 40 400 and something new updates
65:50 oh yeah
65:53 okay Peter great question question Peter
65:56 why do you like the tj07 more than the tj1 couple reasons Peter number one the
66:01 tj11 is really big it's really big it's heavier than the tj07 although it's
66:05 really light for such a big case because of it's all aluminum construction uh
66:09 number two is it'll look kind of empty I'm not planning to use an xlx
66:13 motherboard so it'll just have like that emptiness factor I don't like that I
66:17 prefer to I prefer to have a build that's all goes together I want an ATX
66:22 board I want an ATX case I want an ATX power supply I mean to me it's like
66:26 using an sfx power supply and putting it in like a mid tower case and using like
66:30 an adapter it's just going to look stupid um I saw one guy installed an ITX
66:34 board in his Corsair 800d I mean that's an extreme example but it's like the
66:37 most ridiculous thing ever um I like the plainness of the tj07 the tjl 11 I
66:42 originally hated it when I first saw the pictures cuz I thought the front was
66:45 plastic I thought it was like plastic and cheap the whole thing is metal it's
66:49 a beautiful case it is amazingly well constructed but I like the plainness I
66:54 like the flat front on the tj07 I like the flat top I just like the I like the
66:59 plainness I like the sleekness um also my tj7 is a gift from
67:04 my wife my wife bought it for me it was one of the first major purchases that
67:08 she made um for me for my birthday and
67:11 uh was also one of the first things I bought when I first started at NCI so it
67:14 was a long time ago now so I'm pretty attached to the uh to the tj07 um I also
67:20 my tj7 is is baller because it's one of the old ones new TJ o7s the unibody
67:26 curve that's so smooth on mine is actually a little bit sort of it's it's
67:33 I mean what would we call it we'd call it like um it's not quite a perfectly
67:37 smooth curve it's got some sort of lines to it and the reason is that the new
67:41 manufacturing process they take the sheet they score it a couple times and
67:46 then they bend it whereas they used to just bend the solid sheet of aluminum so
67:51 I have like the older baller tj7 and I feel exclusive about it so so that
67:55 that's another reason how much can I bench press not a whole lot let me tell
67:59 you that because my left ARM is weak as crap I can only do about I think I can
68:04 do about 35 push-ups in one go and I
68:07 only weigh like 140 pounds so that should give you some idea like I yeah
68:11 really can't uh really can't do it um obsidian Matthew elus are you thinking
68:15 of getting the iPhone 5 believe it or not I'm not really a phone guy I I
68:20 actually had um a flip phone until work
68:23 issued me a Blackberry and it was one of those blackberries with like you know
68:27 the the wheel on the side and like the screen and like the keyboard under it
68:30 it's like an 8300 or something like that and I used that until work issued me an
68:35 iPhone 4 I don't um I don't I don't buy phones
68:40 I'm not a phone guy I'm uh I think that any computer that's smaller than the
68:44 Torso of a grown man is probably not uh not that great although phones are
68:49 getting phones are getting better phones are getting cool and all of that but I just I know I have to get into phones
68:54 more I mean I I I like learning about new operating systems like Android and
68:58 and iOS it's been it's been eye opening I use my phone more than I ever thought
69:01 I would but I'm still not super like I'm
69:05 not like foaming at the mouth waiting for the oh my goodness it's the next
69:08 iPhone or it's the next Android phone I'm just I'm not that uh I'm far more
69:13 excited about a new flagship video card for
69:16 example okay let's move right along Sue Dion
69:22 says how many satellites are currently in orbit
69:26 um suion I'm going to show you a really cool site and I know you're just
69:29 trolling me I totally know you're just trolling me but it's called let me
69:33 Google that for you and uh I I I would
69:37 use it but I think you get the point
69:42 Sue Rumble muffin says there are rumors going around that ASUS is making offers
69:46 to buy ASRock how do you think this will impact the motherboard Market I don't know if you know this but ASRock
69:50 originally split off from ASUS I believe they're still both owned by pegatron but
69:54 I could be wrong wrong I don't remember exactly the an the what was going on but
69:59 those companies are they're separate but
70:02 they're like like they're separate they're here but they're like there
70:05 there's connections between those companies so I I wouldn't think I
70:09 wouldn't overthink it too
70:15 much Gabriel says lonus I posted a rig a while ago can you look at it and give me
70:20 the line of seal of approval you know what Gabriel I am pretty busy I have a
70:24 hard time looking at at every system that people send to me um especially
70:28 because at least 75% of the people that I advise about their systems end up
70:32 arguing with me about why they chose what they chose or didn't choose what
70:35 they chose you know what I don't care because I looked at your system I told
70:39 you how you're going to get 20% more performance for 5% more money or
70:43 whatever else um and I just don't have time to debate it but what you can do is
70:47 you can email PC nc.com and the Russian or Brian will
70:52 totally look at that for you and they are as as good configuring PCS as me if
70:57 not better so don't worry too much about that they will they will get you taken
71:01 care of like no problem Jacob yes at
71:04 some point I will do the Hackintosh I am still waiting for ASUS to send me a p8
71:08 z77 dasi or whatever their z77 it export
71:12 is I don't have one yet as soon as I have it I will get to work on that I
71:17 promise dagge larak says
71:22 Linus okay
71:25 uh reflex says you know ASL I do my mother is uh my mother's heart of
71:29 hearing she's a teacher of the deaf um I had a deaf Foster brother growing up so
71:34 I'm really rusty um I used to be pretty
71:37 conversant um whereas these days it's pretty tough for me I mean it's kind of
71:42 like French where I used to be able to communicate in French but now I mean uh
71:47 uh yeah it's it's it's pretty tough I'm kind of an English English speaking only
71:51 guy these days I mean I can still I can still finger spell you know like I know
71:55 my name sign just like hockey with an L sort of cheeseball but um that's pretty
72:00 much all I got at this point Nicholas clucher says lonus you
72:06 started as a Salesman how did you end up in the head office instead of store
72:11 management um well actually it's funny story because I went and talked to the
72:16 president of the company because I had a really awkward conversation that I had
72:20 to have with him because I just started at ncx and I was like I had this
72:24 contract where I have to paint houses this summer can you give me the summer
72:28 off can you hold a job here for me um while I while I do this and I think that
72:33 that's part of what made him um that's
72:37 part of what got me his attention was that I came in to talked to him about
72:41 this I think he looked at my numbers and what he liked about what I was selling
72:45 was I was always selling systems I was selling more systems than any other
72:49 sales guy in the company and I was working like three days a week um and I
72:53 was always selling these high-end systems because I'm really pass about it
72:56 and so he said to me look not only am I going to hold you a job here but I am
73:01 going to have you come and work at head
73:04 office when you come back and so I
73:08 started out uh configuring the PCS on the website and from there I moved into
73:11 product management with water cooling and then from there I moved into more important product management and now I'm
73:16 a category manager and then I started doing videos somewhere along the line
73:19 and that's uh that's pretty much how it went so there was a lot of there was a
73:22 lot of luck involved I mean it wasn't like uh it wasn't like you know oh I you
73:27 know um I found like a magical sort of
73:31 Toothpick and then I fought the mighty
73:35 uh pint-sized dragon and I slayed him and I you know stabbed him in the foot
73:39 and it turned out that that was where his heart was and I was like oh I
73:42 conquered the Beast and then I put him in this jar and like it wasn't anything
73:47 like that it was uh there was some luck involved I think I think with success
73:51 there's always a little bit of a little bit of luck involved LD form says wish
73:55 me good night your stream keeps me up it's 1:00 a.m. I am not going to wish
73:58 you good night because you should stick around and watch the rest of the stream it's only 25 more
74:03 minutes and it's fun right are we having fun is this a good stream you guys
74:07 enjoying it you guys cool all right good and know there's no
74:11 cookies in it it's actually oh that's disgusting it's really oh look at this
74:16 it's really old I had no idea I thought it was flour it's old ketchup packets
74:20 from McDonald's and uh like old sweet and
74:24 sour packets see look at that that one has some sauce on the top right there dare me to lick
74:28 it should I lick it come on I going to see what you guys
74:32 say should I lick
74:39 it oh disgusting okay oh I can still
74:42 taste it oh oh awful and I've got spit all
74:48 over my chin because I pressed it so hard against my tongue that it mashed my
74:52 tongue on my chin it's disgusting it's disgusting I don't don't do
74:55 that okay moving right
75:00 along uh Mark wants to know will we be doing multicam in the future yes we
75:05 will lonus I have a copy of windows8 from University I'm on the offense about
75:08 upgrading I'm planning to upgrade I think that the only way to move is
75:13 forward so I'm going to try it and uh I'm going to make make myself like it
75:18 because it's not going away um lonus are you going to upgrade
75:22 your 926 Ai and your rig to the new successor I am not planning to do that
75:26 um adaptech has a really cool new card coming that I'm pretty excited about um
75:30 and my 9260 is honestly fast enough for me it's good enough for about two
75:34 gigabytes per second reads which is uh I mean I've only got SATA 2 ssds on there
75:39 now I could still get more performance out of that card just by upgrading the
75:42 ssds instead so I'm going stick with that uh stick with that card for now I
75:45 really like it it's reliable I've got a I've got like a special custom heat sink
75:50 I made for the battery so that it doesn't overheat so everything's just kind of working the way I like it
75:55 Joe wants to know if it's possible to liquid cool and overclock an SSD let me
75:59 tell you Joe that is the most fantastic Twitter profile picture that I think I
76:04 have ever seen look at this look at this burger look at this guy I mean the
76:08 Burger's so big it makes this huge black guy looks small that is that is
76:13 fantastic Joe is that you tell me Joe if that is you I need to
76:19 know you have to tweet you have to tweet me later or something because that is
76:23 just fantastic that burger is amazing
76:26 so back to uh back back to Twitter I guess oh I guess we're up at the top now
76:30 or maybe we're not I don't know what's going on let's go back to connect there we go let's get connected with each
76:35 other yo not like in a weird way just in like
76:40 a good way Mike Canadians go to McDonald's also lonus did you hear about
76:45 New York City Banning the sale of Big Gulp siiz drinks you know what this isn't something I was planning to talk
76:49 about tonight but huge soft drinks are going to kill
76:55 you I I I know that I don't have a channel called lus health tips and I'm
76:59 not necessarily the most healthy guy in the world but I was uh we were at the
77:04 nurse's place we were getting immunizations for the baby and um I was
77:08 I was sort of marveling at uh I mean I'm a huge iced tea guy I love iced tea it's
77:15 just the best thing ever and if you guys don't live in Canada if you live in the US what you don't know is that in oh
77:21 come on lus racist I said he's a black guy I'm a white guy it's not
77:25 racist geez I didn't say he was fat I
77:28 said he was big he is big anyway so we
77:32 were at the uh we were at the nurses the nurse's office to get some immunizations
77:35 for the baby and uh they had a chart on the wall showing like how much sugar is
77:40 in crap and uh it reminded me of this time that I was down in the US and I
77:44 ordered iced tea I'd never really gone to the states and I'd never really gone
77:48 to a restaurant there before and I ordered nice tea at Red Rob and I took
77:51 one sip of it and I just about spit it all over the table because I realized it
77:55 wasn't sweetened and um what what I realized about about the okay first of
78:00 all the sugar sugar will kill you because it turns into fat okay so there's that and then second of all is I
78:06 remember how much sugar I ended up putting from the table they had like
78:10 sugar packets I remember how much sugar I ended up putting into the iced tea to
78:14 make it even remotely palatable and being absolutely disgusted at how much
78:19 sugar I was putting in this drink because you don't think about it when it's mixed into something but pop iced
78:24 tea that stuff will kill you the best thing to
78:28 drink right there water so I'm I almost drink only water
78:34 the times I drink iced tea I drink iced tea when I go to a restaurant I treat
78:37 myself but I try not to keep it in the house because that stuff will kill me
78:41 and I try to realize that uh Performance Studios what editor
78:46 do you use to edit your videos I personally use Sony Vegas movie studio
78:49 because I'm cheap and I don't know how to use anything else um uh what's his
78:53 name diesel brought brought his copy of uh of CS6 that he's been using to help
78:58 us and uh yeah it's pretty cool based on
79:02 what he's been doing lately I mean I don't know okay okay you know what we're gonna we're going to go we're going to
79:06 go on a Youtube Adventure here guys and I'm going to show you the latest edition
79:10 of netlink weekly which is actually
79:13 amazing um and I'm like super happy with it I didn't I didn't ask him to do this
79:18 at all but he just did a fantastic job of the editing on this one so we had a
79:22 street fighter Showdown between me and
79:25 Tom the artist and uh he added like the
79:28 coolest effect that I that I totally I mean I told him be creative about this
79:32 stuff you know have fun but I didn't think he'd be this creative and I didn't think he'd have this much fun I was I
79:37 was super super impressed with this I'm going to turn on the sound I'm going to stop talking for a minute here was
79:41 pretty even for me and Tom and uh here we go so I I really I don't even know
79:45 what button kicks here you guys like that you guys like those heads and
79:48 health bars down there does that even work oh no I I did damage okay don't do
79:52 that he knows Combos and stuff that's not fair I don't know combos they just
79:55 know how to do it a du no the office knows if I just kick long story I'm to
80:02 figure out how to turn the audio off here yeah long story short I kicked Tom's butt in spite of the fact that
80:06 that was his copy of Street Fighter 4 I've played Street Fighter 4 a grand
80:10 total of about like one hour before in my life when I sat down and kind of
80:13 played it for a bit I have never once played a game on a PlayStation 3 before
80:18 that I'm totally not a console guy but I uh yeah yeah I uh I I I I did myself
80:24 proud I did myself proud in that Street Fighter match there so I I don't
80:28 remember how we got on this topic but let's go ahead and move right along
80:32 here okay moving on down moving on down
80:36 moving on down what's your favorite case
80:40 tj07 Dan says I have to wake up at 7 A.M
80:43 tomorrow for school that sucks Dan I remember
80:47 school getting up early sucks but like stay in school it's
80:51 important and stuff okay okay let's see let's view
80:56 this conversation I don't know where this came
80:59 from oh I think so I think I'm getting I think I'm getting burned for not
81:03 thinking that girl gamers exist I found this uh I found this evidently girl
81:07 gamer oh no oh that that is the that is the one she did reply to my tweet here
81:12 oh yeah okay so we are oh I just saw
81:16 this tweet during my live stream my
81:20 audience says hi you guys say hi right
81:23 you guys say hi to the girl gamer who did an unboxing of a video card I was
81:27 like woo amateur unboxings very cool oh
81:30 someone apparently knows who this is I've never heard of her before but uh
81:34 people don't say people don't say hi well you know what too bad I'm saying hi
81:38 on behalf of you guys because I'll just force you to be somewhat polite uh how
81:43 do I turn this off close this go away and go away no no no okay you know what
81:49 let's just scroll down there we go all right how long till a replacement for
81:53 DDR3 actually they've just finalized the ddr4 spec however I don't think it
81:57 matters that much I don't know if you guys remember this but the upgrade and
82:00 performance going from ddr2 to DDR3 was
82:04 very very minuscule as soon as we moved to an integrated memory controller on
82:08 most of the modern well every modern CPU on the desktop from AMD and Intel um it
82:13 stopped really mattering that much uh what the speed of the memory is because
82:17 the latency goes up as we increase the frequency um and we just don't need more
82:23 bandwidth on the desktop I mean if you guys need any evidence of this go and
82:27 look at some of the writeups that have been done about LGA 2011 where they take
82:33 uh they they actually run every for two one two three and four channels of
82:38 memory on the platform because it's fully capable of running in dual Channel
82:41 and what's discovered a lot of the time is that dual channel is just as good as
82:47 quad channel in some cases where latency is more important and quad channels
82:51 better where you need more bandwidth but these are very very small margins of
82:55 Victory on both sides uh the only time you really run into trouble is when
82:58 you're running single channel so yeah
83:02 there you go I I mean it's coming but I don't know how relevant it is Peter
83:07 wants to know what is the story behind cameraman's Apple prowess also it seems
83:12 slick and Diesel don't mind being on camera anymore so cameraman is an Apple
83:17 guy cameraman is the one who convinced me to get an iPhone 4 cameraman um edits
83:21 all his videos on a Mac back in the day when uh when we were doing like old
83:25 school Tech tipss you know what let's pull up let's pull up some old school Tech tips for you guys so here we're
83:30 gonna go to Let's uh let's let's change our view here let's do this let's go to
83:35 youtube.com ncixcom Okay I'm G to pull
83:38 out some classic classic stuff here guys
83:41 you're gonna you're gonna love this or you're gonna hate it you know what get over it um so oldest to newest here we
83:47 go here we go okay so first of all there's that NC commercial that I had
83:51 nothing to do with um where's where where's that ah where's that one there's
83:56 a particular one I'm looking for here guys cameraman did all these like
84:00 awesome awesome like cheeseball effects this is right around the time we got our
84:04 new studio okay so you guys you guys are going to watch this with me you guys are
84:07 going to watch this with me hold on I'm going to switch this to full screen I'm going to put that on oh yeah 720p like
84:13 it's uh I don't know whatever year that was long time
84:18 ago hi welcome to NC Tech tips today
84:21 we'll be covering a very special uh new platform launch from AMD so it's called
84:26 the dragon platform and it features the Phenom 2 processor demo system here and
84:31 we're going to put on our investigation caps to open it up and see what's inside
84:37 and whoa whoa okay okay hold on hold on let me let me get this close see how fun
84:42 is that cameraman did all of that on a Mac so so Apple can't be uh Apple can't
84:47 be all bad right am I right I'm not right but you know
84:52 cameraman would have us believe that I'm right so let's go ahead and uh keep keep
84:56 moving down
84:59 here scrolling down looking at some
85:02 questions John wants to know how hard do you think it is to run a business solely
85:06 on custom systems how would I do it John it's probably not doable there's two
85:10 guys in the US doing it right now IB power and cyber power they are
85:15 both basically it's saturated there's no room for really anyone else um to make a
85:20 real living to have like a significant company I mean okay there's smaller guys
85:25 like a falcon or uh you know whatever
85:28 whatever those guys but these are this is a very Niche niche market and the
85:32 reason that people buy from them is they're a longtime trusted brand they've
85:36 been around forever as a new startup it would be I'm going to say impossible um
85:42 it's not a business that I would
85:45 start Ryan says I may be a little off
85:48 topic here absolutely not Ryan questions about power supplies are 100 well just
85:53 100% people say more than 100% tick me off because there's no such thing unless
85:57 we're talking about growth so lus I may be a little off topic here but my
86:01 Corsair TX750 V2 died on me and I'm going to buy a seic platinum 60 what do
86:05 you think I think that's a fantastic idea seic power supplies are the
86:11 Chisel David says did that guy from last week who you offered to build this PC
86:14 for ,000 ever respond he did respond he
86:18 seemed like he was going to do it but I I talked him out of it because it makes
86:21 no sense to give someone $1,000 to assemble a PC for
86:26 you all right moving right along would
86:30 you say a sound card is necessary for games like BF3 a sound card is necessary
86:33 for life you should have a sound card because it makes everything sound
86:38 better oh this is the this is the saddest thing that I've that I've seen
86:42 today kpk TDS says lonus you are loved
86:46 by thousands thank you I'm completely alone
86:51 what do you recommend me first of all let's find out how alone he
86:55 is hold on oh my goodness he is actually
87:02 completely alone he has zero followers
87:06 you know what I would like you guys to do just one of you just one of you I
87:10 would like one of you to follow kpk TDS
87:15 on Twitter please can someone do
87:18 that someone follow him come
87:22 on I'm not we're moving on with the live stream until someone does it okay so I'm
87:26 going to refresh this page and if no one's following him then uh then we're
87:31 not uh yeah we're we're not moving on here zero followers still guys this
87:35 isn't good enough let's go let's go kpk TDS let's go zero followers still we're
87:41 not I'm I'm serious I'm serious someone do it just one he's not going to be
87:46 alone no I'm not going to follow him I don't follow people on Twitter my ego is
87:50 way too big I'm trying to refresh here I'm
87:53 pressed F5 what do you want here 100
87:56 followers there we go kpk TDS you have a
87:59 100 followers on Twitter you have people to talk to I don't know if they're going
88:03 to pay attention or not but I hope they will because I think that the people who
88:07 are tuned into this live stream the people who watch Tech tips on YouTube
88:10 are generally A Cut Above the Rest of the internet garbage and the re what I
88:15 base this on is the quality of the comments on my videos the quality of the
88:19 chat that we have going on here the quality of the conversations it's good
88:22 stuff and they're good people so now they are going to talk to you or they
88:26 might not and uh let's move right along
88:30 okay uh Charlie what do I think of the tj07 based murder box I love it I think
88:36 it's expensive I think if you want as good a case as you can pretty much get
88:41 um Charles is the man he's B he uh he started up in Vancouver I actually uh I
88:45 saved his butt once on one of his first
88:48 murder boxes um he had a bill that he
88:52 had to get done G3 eight fittings were
88:55 really hard to come by and I had a beautiful pair of them I don't remember
88:58 where I got them but we had none in stock at NC there was nothing local he
89:03 couldn't find anything and he called me up he said vinus do you have any g38
89:09 fittings I have to finish this system if I don't finish this system it's going to
89:12 be a big problem for me it's going to be weeks to get more g38 fittings and he
89:17 does not believe in using anything but the best so he was using a thermal chill
89:20 rad no questions they were not G1 quarter back in those days so I said
89:24 look Charles dude all I've got is these ones I'm saving these for my build these
89:29 are the nicest g38 fittings I've ever encountered I've never seen any like
89:32 them ever again but I was like look dude for you they're
89:37 yours didn't charge them for them just gave them to him and that's that's
89:41 really the only story I have about Charles but either way I like him I
89:45 liked him there that's the point I liked him enough to give up special fittings
89:50 and I'm I'm totally totally totally OCD
89:54 about things like water cooling fittings if I have like the perfect I mean
89:58 fittings all sucked back in those days we didn't have bits power um so
90:03 yeah I like Charles he's a good
90:08 guy moving further down further down
90:13 Maurice says how do I feel about the Aesthetics of the switch 810 and what do
90:17 I think about the features it includes for the price I think it's very plastic um I'm not much of a plastic guy so
90:22 there you go and I saw some asking in the chat about red versus brown switches
90:26 you know what I'm not a big red guy I love the k90 from corsera I love the
90:31 backlight I love the awesome aluminum base plate I do not love the red
90:36 switches and that's really really preventing me from using that keyboard
90:39 so I would go Browns over I'd go anything over Reds pretty
90:43 much uh Steve wants to know what I think of asrock's xfast RAM xfast land and
90:48 xfast USB well xfast USB is pretty straightforward because I think it just
90:51 means USB 3 as for their xfast RAM and X fast
91:00 L yeah um kargo says go to Justin.tv
91:06 instead admins on Twitch TV are pretty abusive well you know what I know a
91:10 couple of admins over here in fact there was one watching at the start let me
91:15 have a look if he's still here oh no there's oh there's a different staff
91:19 Sinn I don't know who that is let's see if he's abusive I'm going to I'm going
91:23 to totally like say something mean about him I'm going to say like swin sinn's
91:28 dog has tourettes
91:32 bam oh it's John oh whatever whatever
91:35 John no one cares what you think anyway
91:38 come on let's see you get abusive banned I'll ban you I'm gonna try and ban him I
91:43 tried this once with fuzzy oh I can't even do it yeah oh it's cuz I'm not
91:49 logged in yeah yeah bam anyway okay moving
91:53 right along so uh twitch seems to want me on there so uh I'm not going to I'm
91:58 not going to I'm not going to defy them by moving over to Justin.tv because I
92:02 think they could follow me over there and and tell me to come back to Twitch
92:05 based on that they're somewhat Affiliated uh Queen bugle says how about
92:10 a tj07 unboxing great suggestion unfortunately I I mean I've talked about
92:14 the tj07 a lot I don't really have any handy to unbox so there's not a whole
92:19 lot I can do about that but uh but yeah
92:22 but yeah no good idea though good
92:26 idea wait male no I have lights I don't
92:30 have any of those other BS but I do have lights in my music
92:33 collection okay you know what I have another requested topic for tonight and
92:37 this is totally going to be boring for most of you so you can tune out if you want but someone asked me to talk about
92:41 my bike gear so I will be back in like one minute I'm just going to go grab my
92:45 bike gear and we're going to talk about we're going to talk about motorcycle
92:48 safety so I'll be back in like two seconds I have a pretty sweet helmet
92:52 though so you guys should definitely stick around and check it out
93:52 what
94:05 all right so if any of you guys are writers out there then you've probably heard the
94:10 phrase all the gear all the time I firmly believe that if you're thinking
94:14 about riding a motorcycle or if you're riding a motorcycle now and you're not doing this already that you need to make
94:19 sure part of your budget for learning to ride make sure you get a course unless
94:24 you have a super experienced rider to uh to train you and show you what to do um
94:29 and yeah basically yeah make sure you get a course and make sure you allocate
94:33 money for gear so this is my
94:36 rf100 is my sweet ass helmet um your
94:40 helmet should be the first thing you buy yes helmets are not that useful Beyond
94:45 about 60 70 km an hour even 50 um but if
94:49 you get into a pickle and you hit your head your intellect is your most
94:54 valuable possession you don't want to mess that up so uh I actually did an
95:00 unboxing video of this helmet way back when I got it so let's go ahead and uh
95:05 let's check that out here I bet there's not that many like showy helmet
95:09 unboxings on YouTube would there be showy helmet here there showy helmet
95:17 unboxing look at that hit number one
95:20 like a boss so here's me unboxing my
95:23 when I was like super excited I'd never ridden a motorcycle yet I got all my
95:28 gear from uh back then it was called new.com but now it's called
95:31 motorcyclegear.com pretty awesome so here I am like super excited about my
95:36 helmet so that's the same helmet I just showed you see see it looks the same uh
95:40 helmets are only good for about 5 years and rule number one of helmets never
95:44 ever whack them on anything always put them down on the ground where they'll be
95:49 safe and they won't fall because as soon as your helmet Falls and damages is the
95:54 uh the protective material inside it's totally useless okay so boots people
95:58 underestimate the importance of boots paid a couple hundred bucks for these they're rainproof in theory nothing's
96:03 rainproof when it comes to motorcycle gear something I discovered they have reflectors on the back totally useless
96:08 because my pants cover them anyway um but what I do like about these is
96:12 they're extremely ruggedly built very very thick on the top so that you don't
96:17 have any discomfort when you're shifting um and they have extra padding extra
96:22 armor built into things like the ankles so these things are important I was
96:26 trying to explain to my mom who just is learning how to ride a motorcycle now
96:29 the importance of motorcycle boots and motorcycle gear in general and she said
96:32 oh no you'll just you know we'll wear hiking boots and you know two pairs of
96:37 jeans or what whatever whatever she thought she was going to be doing she
96:40 dropped the bike on the first day of training and uh and hurt her ankle I
96:45 said ma if you'd had proper riding boots
96:49 it's worth the money you wouldn't have had to deal with this boots are
96:53 expensive I paid a couple hundred for those but I think it's worth it pants
96:59 pants are important too so you got armor in the knees you got armor on the hips
97:04 um I actually spilled my bike once I spilled it on a on a wooden bridge um in
97:08 the rain and uh really unfortunate I wasn't going fast I was going like 8
97:12 kilometers an hour so I was I was 100% fine everything was okay but I was
97:17 thanked my lucky stars that I was wearing my pants and my jacket so I know
97:22 anyone's going to anyone who rides is going to see my textile gear and they're
97:26 going to be like lonus you have textile gear you suck get leather and you're
97:30 right I should be wearing leather however I use my gear in all types of
97:35 weather so rain shine I'm out there on my bike um so really leather's not an
97:40 option for me it will get destroyed quick fast the way that I use my gear so
97:45 for a jacket most import couple important things so this is one of the
97:48 really cool tips that I picked up while I was shopping is you don't size a
97:52 motorcycle jacket the way you size a real jacket so you see when I put my
97:56 hands up like this my wrist is exposed the the the sleeve doesn't seem like the
97:59 right length that's for a really good reason that's because when I'm on my motorcycle and I'm pulling back on the
98:04 throttle with my other hand of course but I have to demo this if if the jacket
98:08 fit properly and the sleeve was up here it would be cutting off the circulation
98:11 on the back of my hand so that's why it always fits like this you always test
98:15 your motorcycle gear in a riding position see if it sits in the right
98:19 place see if you got all your Mobility find out if the armor is going to shift
98:22 so this one's got armor in elbows this one's got armor in the shoulders it's
98:25 got a back protector um usually get an aftermarket back protector I should
98:29 practice what I preach I don't have one but uh the ones that usually come in the
98:33 jackets kind of suck and this is about as waterproof as it gets for a
98:36 motorcycle jacket and it's not waterproof at all and then my gloves so
98:40 I wear Alpine Stars gloves these are sp
98:43 sp Stella sp8 yes these are ladies
98:47 gloves because I have small lady hands
98:51 but they fit me absolutely perfectly and the one thing where I splurged on
98:55 leather I spent over $100 doar on my gloves was gloves because leather gloves
99:00 are balling also textile gloves generally don't have armor built into
99:04 the back of them which is extremely important even in my small spill I fell
99:09 over whacked my hand on the back of the bridge had I not been wearing these
99:13 knuckle guards I don't know what would have happened but uh you can actually
99:16 see I don't actually I don't remember which hand it was yeah it was this one
99:20 cuz the knuckles are all scuffed up and and beat up from that one incident and
99:25 uh I I thanked every every decision that
99:28 I made about gear I was very thankful for it that day because my shoulder
99:32 didn't get bashed up my hip didn't get bashed up my knee was okay my ankle was
99:36 fine my hand was fine and my head never hit the ground but had it happened um I
99:42 would have been fine as well except I would have been out like 500 bucks I would have had to buy a new helmet so uh
99:46 yeah see they fit perfectly fingers right in the ends I have textile gloves
99:51 too when I'm riding in the ring so I just carry a couple carry an extra pair of gloves in the uh in the back of my
99:55 bike and that's pretty much it
