0:13 tips unboxing this time we're going to be checking out something that I
0:17 personally am very excited about this is the ASUS Republic of Gamers
0:23 g46 notebook so this is a premium notebook that comes with their 360 care
0:28 package to your International waranty meaning you can take it anywhere zero
0:31 bright dot guarantee two-way free standard shipping in the event of an RMA
0:36 and 24/7 tech support it looks like this one doesn't include their accidental
0:40 damage which only the very very expensive notebooks do but that's still
0:45 a very strong included warranty compared
0:48 to the offerings from other guys on the market and ASUS has been making it a
0:51 habit to do that with their notebooks so
0:55 why do I care about this notebook you guys might be asking yourselves well number one is that I like notebooks I
1:00 like powerful notebooks I don't play as many games as I used to but what I might
1:04 find myself doing is editing video on a notebook or just generally being a power
1:10 user and wanting something that gets closer to the desktop experience that I
1:14 can have we've got a nice protective paper sleeve here for the notebook
1:18 itself just going to tuck that away and what a gaming notebook typically does is
1:22 it delivers a bit of a thicker overall form factor but it is able to deliver
1:27 better overall experience a better overall performance and a better
1:30 experience for power users so check this out in terms of the thickness here's an
1:34 HTC1 phone for size comparison you can see it's not that thin but it has
1:39 powerful Cooling and that's part of the reason it has to be thicker you can see
1:43 through these grills the huge heat sinks
1:46 that are cooling the GPU and the CPU because this notebook does not skimp on
1:51 the specs it actually uses a core i5 3230m which can turbo up to 3.2 GHz and
1:57 a GTX 660m so what you'll notice about
2:00 this is that unlike other sort of massive gaming laptops this one actually
2:05 fits in my lap it has the same kind of style and aesthetic that we've seen from
2:10 other ASUS Rog notebooks such as the g75
2:13 so you can see we've got an illuminated ASUS logo on the back with a shiny ASUS
2:18 logo so that's sorry an illuminated Rog logo the overall notebook has a matte
2:22 finish so you can see I can touch it like this and it actually doesn't show
2:26 any fingerprints which is great for something you're going to carry around with you which this one is actually
2:30 possible to carry around I'd rather have thicker than bigger in this case um the
2:35 hinge is extremely robust so you can see it's uh it's attached here not quite at
2:39 the very edge of the notebook but that gives you a comfortable distance between
2:43 the keyboard and the screen itself so let's just go ahead and uh give you guys
2:47 sort of another angle of that uh we showed you the back and enough already
2:50 so on the bottom you've got easy access to memory upgrades the hard drive that
2:54 comes in this particular one is a 750 gig drive with an 8 gig SSD providing a
3:00 caching functionality that gives it a boost in performance without uh without
3:05 actually having to have two separate drives it's got an SD card reader on
3:08 this side HDMI out super speed USB 3 as
3:12 well as VGA this is probably the most flexible display output that I like to
3:17 see on a notebook this is a this is the flexibility I like to see because
3:21 between these two you can adapt to pretty much anything else that you need
3:24 to run however things do get better so
3:27 there's your power in there's your gig of ether there's two more USB 3 bam mini
3:32 DisplayPort love to see that so you can actually drive multiple displays off of
3:37 this notebook very very easily it's got microphone and headphone Jacks that are
3:41 dedicated uh some some smaller thin and light notebooks are starting to
3:45 integrate these into one I think what is it three three pole Jack uh so the ones
3:50 that have both microphone and headphones on one and now that we've opened it up
3:55 you can see it has a very Sleek look to it so the bezel of the monitor part is
3:59 matte again which I think looks really clean really really good there's your
4:04 webcam um but down here you've got what
4:07 appears to be brushed aluminum now you guys if you've been watching my videos
4:10 for a while will know what I think of brushed aluminum on places where you
4:13 have to rest your hands because it will stain pretty much instantly but what
4:17 isus is actually gone with here for the material is that brushed plastic that
4:22 looks gorgeous it looks just like brushed aluminum except you can actually
4:26 clean it unlike brushed aluminum so it'll come clean and it'll always look
4:31 good whereas brush aluminum will look terrible pretty much immediately on the
4:35 keyboard layout itself they haven't committed any cardinal sins so they've
4:38 got long shifts long enter and long backspace meaning you'll be able to
4:42 easily reach all of those buttons should you desire it and all of your usual hot
4:46 keys are built into the top here so brightness up and down for the illuminated keyboard Wireless on and off
4:52 that's Wireless AC so it has the very
4:55 latest wireless standard brightness up and down for your screen itself as well
4:58 as external display options turning the touchpad off which is an important
5:02 option for gamers because the last thing you want is to be using your keyboard
5:06 and then a separate Mouse which most people don't game on a touchpad and then
5:09 accidentally brush the touchpad with your palm and then have that
5:13 accidentally move you around inside the game other than that there's not too
5:17 much to say about it it does feature NVIDIA Optimus which is basically uh
5:22 NVIDIA and Intel's way of using their drivers well I guess NVIDIA developed it
5:26 more than Intel but uh NVIDIA's way of using their drivers to turn the
5:30 dedicated GPU off when you're not running a 3D application and then back
5:35 on when you are running a 3D application that way you get the power benefit of
5:38 using on the onboard GPU with the performance benefit of using the 2 gig
5:42 GTX 660m GPU for actually playing games
5:46 so here in summary this is what it'll
5:49 look like when sort of a slightly small homunculus style person actually holds
5:54 the device and it's just ah so much lighter and more portable than your
5:59 typical gaming brick so I was really excited when I saw this at CES and now
6:03 that I have it sort of in my hands in person I am no less excited about it
6:08 well maybe a little less excited about it cuz I've seen it already but whatever
6:11 I didn't get to show it to you guys in as much detail I didn't actually show
6:14 the accessories so it comes with a power cord comes with a notebook warranty card
6:19 which is important make sure you hold on to that keep that information cuz it
6:22 does have as I mentioned before a very good warranty battery notice telling you
6:26 about the warranty on your battery drivers on a disc
6:30 as well as a user manual there you go and last but not least presumably ah yes
6:35 the power brick so this is a little on the bigger side because even though ASUS
6:39 has packed all that power into a small notebook form factor well it still needs
6:45 to actually get the power somehow so you end up with a bit of a bigger bigger
6:49 power brick so again this is a 4.3 in phone which should give you some idea
6:53 how big that bad boy is don't forget to subscribe to lus Tech tips more
6:57 unboxings reviews and other computer and I'll see you guys again next time so
7:02 there's a couple things I missed there's some optional configurations it's
7:05 available in a variety of different config so number one is you can either
7:09 get it with a 1366 X 768 screen this
7:12 particular model comes with a 1600x 900 screen which is definitely the one I'd
7:16 prefer because at that 14in size, 1600
7:19 by 900 delivers a compromise between a good gaming experience because you're
7:23 not pushing quite as many pixels as 1900 by 1080 but also getting that desktop
7:29 real estate that you need you can also change up the storage config so this is
7:32 a 750 gig drive with an 8 gig SSD
7:36 however you can get up to a 1 terab drive with a 128 gig SSD using a
7:40 combination of the 2 and 1/2 in Bay and the M SATA spot that is available and
7:46 another funny observation that I made that I didn't even notice when I was doing the regular unboxing is that
7:51 there's no battery I couldn't find the battery it has a non- removable battery
7:56 so my thinking for this cuz normally a chassis this thick you'd see a removable
8:01 battery of some sort but my thinking is that what ASUS actually had to do in
8:05 order to fit this kind of performance and this kind of heat dissipation in
8:08 such a small chassis is they had to go with a non- removable battery that's uh
8:12 that's built into the to the device so
8:15 there you go now I think we're actually done thanks for watching this video was
8:20 edited on a workstation powered by Kingston
8:24 memory it actually uses a core i5 32 oh
8:29 crap one more time
