0:00 all right so on Friday while we were shooting Channel Super Fun um there was
0:04 a bit of a disaster and all the computers needed to be Rec combobulated
0:09 on their own Loops instead of flushing so we're going to do some diagnosis
0:14 here this is the whole room water cooling
0:18 project detec this is
0:23 crazy um I think one thing that we need
0:26 to do is get that second pump in here
0:29 because I'm having trouble bleeding all the
0:32 systems so here's our big boy second
0:39 pump and uh I have some tubing scraps so
0:43 we're just going to hook this baby
0:46 up um okay where's my thing we're going
0:50 from this Outlet to this Inlet to the rest of the room I got to
0:55 go I got to go hook up a system before we start this though otherwise it's just
0:58 going to go no
1:03 so we're going to put you back on the whole room Loop then we're going to go
1:08 turn on the pumps for the whole room
1:11 Loop wow your system runs toasty when it's just got to dual rad too many
1:15 bubbles though so first the first pump because we don't want either of them to
1:19 run
1:23 dry boom then the second pump
1:30 all right let's see if we're getting better flow rates with all that extra
1:33 pressure actually that does look quite a bit
1:43 better ah I'm watering the bathtub yeah
1:46 not bad pressure o looks like we're actually
1:50 getting more Gunk cut of your system that's
1:54 interesting so let's go have a look maybe it's uh
1:59 that not I did not expect that we already flushed the systems how are
2:04 temps they're okay not great well right
2:08 now your system has a 5x quad
2:11 radiator just for itself so it makes
2:14 sense that it's doing all right that's weird turning off your pump
2:19 made absolutely zero
2:22 difference to the sound in this computer
2:25 what is making so much noise wait what did I just un
2:31 plug oh wasn't your pump what was it I
2:34 don't know let's just not worry too much about that okay oh no there it goes dead
2:40 silent now okay so this one's
2:45 purged hold on a second
2:49 though oh that's a
2:56 problem bad bad bad
3:00 oh we ran dry absolutely terrible worst thing
3:05 ever oh boy that was not not what we were trying
3:11 to do
3:15 okay that might explain why it was so
3:18 quiet now aside from needing to replace
3:21 the pump I also need to replace the power supply for the fans on the roof
3:25 because we were so close to the 2 amp limit of the power supply we were using
3:29 originally that the fans just don't start up unless I start half of them and
3:33 even then sometimes not but first see
3:36 the these marks right at the tip of my finger those are growth how about the
3:41 down here oh those might be growth too I didn't see those probably bubbles though
3:45 uh that means that block performance is definitely affected by the growth in our
3:50 Loop even on the furthest system from the pumps but since we haven't seen
3:55 block performance affected negatively yet um what I'm hoping is we can at
3:59 least run it until we move and uh once
4:02 we've added some some kind of a biocal agent like iodine to the loop um we
4:08 should hopefully kill that stuff and inhibit the rest of its growth so do we
4:12 have to clean those blocks the blocks will need to be disassembled for
4:16 cleaning what about the RADS do they have to be replaced um right now it
4:21 looks like that would be our best bet yes or we could just irresponsibly not
4:25 do it and uh put in a biocal agent put
4:29 an inline filter in and just kind of go yep good enough and not clean anything
4:34 that is another option everything's fine out here I wonder if the fans are still
4:41 running cannot tell from here but what I
4:45 can tell from here is that I have the uh
4:48 I have the soldering gear that I need to make my new power supply so I guess why
4:52 don't we do
4:55 that so I have never used this soldering kit
5:00 before this is a new one
5:05 oh terrible terrible
5:08 news I forgot my wire strippers I guess I'll have to use my
5:13 teeth or a knife probably teeth it's a
5:17 nice Smartwatch you have there oh thank you uh it was recommended by uh guy that
5:24 I know he sounds like a dick I think this is supposed to go in
5:29 here here but I'm going to go see if I have wire
5:34 strippers I definitely don't have flux
5:37 though I'm here I found one in the uh in
5:40 the closet it's from one of the power supplies for one of these systems so
5:45 it's all sort of part of the same inventory for this project
5:50 okay so that's on wait a minute I not
5:54 only have no flux I I have no solder I I do have to go to Home Depot D so my
6:00 computer just started making you know a bit of an awful noise uh it sounded like
6:05 the screams of a thousand dying babies and here it comes
6:09 again I don't know you don't know what dying babies sound like especially not a
6:20 thousand we need to get everyone's but
6:23 bural system off the whole room Loop you
6:28 just put mine on the loop and now you're putting it off well it's a diagnostic
6:33 process why not M again because we want
6:37 all the pressure going to your Loop to force bubbles out of it cuz you're uh
6:41 you're at the very end so you're you kind of got the Loop
6:50 spot all of this seems like an excellent
6:55 idea I'm trying to loosen bubbles I'm
6:58 not going to tip it planting you probably will okay I'm going to tip it
7:03 if I get hit in the head with a hard drive I'll be upset not as upset as the
7:06 hard drive but okay I'll put it on the ground you shouldn't drop hard drives
7:11 like that said the guy who tipped the system and dropped the hard drive before
7:15 okay well the bad news is that two pumps is still not enough to bleed all the
7:20 systems at once but is definitely enough to properly bleed one system at once
7:24 when before with only one pump it was like barely enough enough
7:31 cool okay so I've got everything I need here for soldering I've got my soldering
7:36 station I've got my soldering iron I've
7:40 got my sponge I've got my solder I've
7:43 got my flux pen um cuz I couldn't find
7:46 my other thing of flux so I'll just use a pen whatever okay right and I have my
7:51 sacrificial Molex connector that I'll be using to put onto the end of this and
7:56 then some electrical tape to go ahead and seal the whole thing up oh and turns
8:00 out I do have wire strippers here at the office so I I guess let's get started so
8:06 first thing we'll need to do is cut this connector
8:12 off and Boop you're done so let's find
8:16 out if this
8:20 works I don't have much hope actually it'll be fine okay
8:27 and bippity B 14 volts all
8:32 right
8:35 12 okay I you worried that the rain's
8:38 going to get to that
8:45 thing there's no explanation quick go before he realizes
8:49 that I'm back okay up we
8:53 go oh it's okay that seems
8:57 good oh it's raining right now
9:00 actually okay uh you may have to go up there now
9:05 I kind of have to pee Oh nobody's
9:09 watching um no hold on oh oh
9:15 what okay we have one of these powered
9:20 over over
9:24 SATA oh in fact there are three leads
9:29 for the three Splitters which means we need to split
9:34 this to two Mox and then split it again
9:38 to oh I could have just see I could have
9:41 just soldered it to that entire harness but instead I just left one connector I
9:46 thought that was all we needed wait you're leaving that there
9:51 seems safe oh okay I guess I could take it out of the
9:55 r there
10:00 what are you looking for nothing I hate
10:06 you do we have any Molex y
10:10 Splitters probably yeah that's what I
10:18 thought why you no
10:24 reason cuz I soldered the wrong connector to the end of shut up
10:36 so the proper solution would have definitely been to resolder this especially cuz I did such a poor job of
10:40 soldering it in the first place but this is what we'll be
10:44 doing Molex to SATA to quad
10:49 SATA okay so we wire these
10:53 up Bippity bity Boop
11:01 no fans are
11:07 spinning it's all good um hm let's try
11:14 one oh there's s so we have
11:24 oh we only did up one of the grounds and
11:28 it's the wrong one back down we
11:35 go oh I can't even
11:38 a yeah I'll meet you back at the soldering
11:42 iron if you could grab a Seda harness from the closet in front of burl or
11:47 behind him or whatever they're in a bag on the shelf right inside the door all
11:52 right should just pretend none of that ever
11:57 happened got it on the first try yeah
12:02 right now because we have SATA connectors on the uh fan power Splitters
12:07 up there we'll be using a SATA modular
12:11 power supply harness as our sacrificial lamb today and we will be attaching
12:17 pretty much the entirety of it giving us a total of four connectors cuz if we had
12:21 just done one connector of completely the wrong type that would have been
12:26 silly if you have any tips for soldering don't be afraid to let us know in the
12:31 comments no
12:38 trolling just kidding don't do that that's for 9 volts not soldering
12:50 irons don't touch that dial L Tech tips we'll be right back save on select Intel
12:55 Core i7 processors and 730 series ssds with instant rebates during Valentine's
13:00 week February 14th to 21st 2015 click
13:03 now to learn more ah it's
13:07 hot which makes sense this could almost be its own
13:12 entire episode The Comedy of Errors that is
13:15 line is trying to create this adapter let's put that is a long
13:22 wire it's about one line is height in
13:26 height
13:30 Boop a I still haven't gone PE it
13:33 definitely doesn't go
13:41 away okay take that
13:48 suckers nope
13:55 nope just come back out
13:59 what did I have this clip to must have been
14:02 tubing there we go okay that's pretty much it all fans
14:09 except one spinning why is there one not spinning what is going on here what is
14:15 this what is this what are
14:19 okay next time on West Coast hle room
14:23 okay so I ordered a couple of filters and hopefully these
14:27 will filter what whatever's going on in our system oh my God it's moving
