0:04 and steel series hey guys we're here at Nintendo checking out the Nintendo 2DS
0:09 now the big story around this is no hinges but you've had some pretty good
0:12 retorts to that and what do you have to say about it um so Nintendo 2DS first
0:17 off is the uh newest member of the Nintendo 3DS family of course just
0:21 announced a few days ago playable for the first time here at Pax 2013 really
0:25 excited about that um as the newest member of the Nintendo 3DS family it uh
0:30 it plays all 3DS games and Nintendo DS
0:34 games in 2D as the name implies so uh
0:37 we're really targeting that audience of maybe players that want to play games
0:41 like Animal Crossing new Leaf Pokemon X Pokemon Y but don't have a Nintendo 3DS
0:46 yet this is a cheap opt the the lowest price option at $129.99 so also it's
0:51 just 2D me personally I will never play a game in 3D cuz it really really hurts
0:55 my eyes so I I have no real draw for the
0:58 3D so when I heard there was another one coming out in 2D that had already
1:01 intrigued me so yeah that's actually a great Point some folks maybe they can't
1:06 see 3D or maybe they just don't like using the 3D option so from a functional
1:10 standpoint this is essentially playing a Nintendo 3DS with the 3D depth slider
1:15 turned all the way off right so um the games still look gorgeous and you don't
1:20 need the 3D to actually play the games you know certain games do look great I
1:24 personally love Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds upcoming it's got some
1:28 great 3D effects but but um at the same time looks great in 2D so absolutely
1:34 cool now one thing I heard you say earlier about the no hinges thing actually was that uh you you've had a
1:38 lot of sa mothers coming up saying that they were very happy that there was no
1:42 hinges because it feel felt a lot sturdier I came in kind of kind of
1:47 worried because I like the hinges idea but after feeling it I still kind of
1:52 want hinges but I definitely understand why someone would just want a slate idea
1:56 with no hinges cuz it does feel really solid Nintendo's known for for you being
2:00 able to drop their device and it's still working not that I recommend it but a
2:04 lot of their products are quite sturdy so I'm not surprised to see that out of
2:07 this one um and there's a few other form factor changes like the the top buttons
2:11 can you tell me more about those so um right as you mentioned the uh the
2:15 buttons you've got everything you have on the Nintendo 3DS Nintendo 3DS Excel
2:19 so your plus control pad Circle pad your face buttons um the top l&r buttons
2:23 where your uh left and right index fingers go they have more of like a curve design now so you can actually you
2:28 know press it from the even from the sides from the top just feels really
2:32 comfy when you get your hands on there how did you feel when you kind of went hands on earlier that was great I I I
2:37 didn't really like the idea of hooking my entire finger on the top I do have large hands but I didn't feel the need
2:42 and I claw grip mice I don't know how much how into computer gameing you are
2:45 but I claw grip mice so I'm usually like this anyway so I was claw gripping the
2:49 top buttons which was interesting that I could do that and it works totally fine
2:52 because there seems to be actuation points around it which is interesting um
2:56 is there what's your favorite thing about this device um for me I really
3:01 like the way it just feels when you when you pick it up and you actually get in
3:05 your hands uh it just feels really natural and comfortable um you know the
3:09 the buttons actually are located a little bit higher up now near that top screen but it feels great uh I think my
3:14 favorite feature though is still that it has all of the great things that the
3:18 Nintendo 3DS the Nintendo 3DS XL does minus the 3D so it still comes with a 4
3:24 gig SD card still have the wireless so those great uh you know eShop games you
3:29 can download like Harmon knite attack of the Friday monsters you've got all that
3:32 abilities just at a lower price point um
3:35 and that cost is I think probably my favorite feature because come gift
3:40 season I know I'm going to be buying some of these and it hits a price point
3:44 that is actually pretty good for a lot of people's gift Seasons where a lot of the other ones didn't now release date
3:48 for this device is actually timed with something else what is it timed with so
3:52 Nintendo 2DS launches October 12th it's going to be coming out the same day as
3:56 Pokémon X Pokemon Y uh so great timing
3:59 there if you're in the market we actually had you know a lot of folks yesterday some college students actually
4:04 coming in saying you know what I have to find a way to play Pokémon X I'm a
4:07 college student I don't have a lot of money so this is going to be how I'm
4:11 going to be playing it was a common common theme among some of the college
4:14 students in here yesterday but uh not not that it was a good thing but a bunch
4:18 of friends of mine in University we actually rushed out and bought black and
4:22 white and played it in lectures so I'm not surprised that the college kids were
4:26 happy to see Pokémon another thing that I want to add that my cameraman Brandon
4:30 noticed when he had hands on with the device is that he liked that the buttons
4:33 were up by the screen he found it a lot easier if he got uh out of orientation
4:37 to find the buttons again so that's another little Adder for you guys out there so if you weren't super stoked
4:41 with the Nintendo 2DS there are things to look at it is very solid the buttons
4:45 are higher new shoulder buttons are great all that kind of stuff thank you
