0:00 this unboxing is more of a lead into an NC Tech tips topic that I'm going to be
0:04 working on soon I'm going to actually be doing thanks to Hitachi actually big
0:08 thanks to Hitachi for providing us with the drives for this topic but we are
0:12 finally after many many many requests
0:16 going to be doing an NC Tech tips on configuring raid so I'm going to be
0:20 using the Hitachi deskstar 3 and 1/2 in
0:23 drive this is a 7200 RPM drive with 32
0:26 Megs of cach I have three drives in one
0:30 capacity so I'm going to be showing raid zero raid 1 as well as raid 5 okay this
0:35 is their HD 3100 series drive so this is
0:40 their latest series of drives and I'm going to go ahead and open the box now
0:44 this is I think the first time I've ever actually unboxed a retail box hard drive
0:49 because mostly uh NCIX where I work being an online store we don't really
0:54 stock a whole lot of retail box hard drives because uh it's a lot easier to
0:58 just ship a drive than to ship a box so here is the packaging that it comes in
1:03 clever little plastic thing then we have
1:06 wow a hard drive installation guide I have never seen one of these before so
1:10 they show you how to connect the SATA power and SATA data you can record your
1:14 drive information in here if you want to
1:17 uh talks about hitachi's warranty so Hitachi has a okay it says a
1:23 onee 2ye threee or 5year so I don't know
1:26 which one it is for this particular drive but let's you know what let's see
1:30 if we can figure that out real quick hold on it couldn't be that complicated
1:33 this drive has a three-year warranty it is green eco-friendly technology for
1:38 industry-leading low power consumption okay so this is a an eco-friendly drive
1:42 as well you've got four hard drive screws for installing the drive in your
1:45 case you have a SATA cable for installing the drive into your
1:50 motherboard and then here is the other side of the little plastic clam shell
1:53 that holds the drive now Hitachi drives come in particularly shiny anti-st I
2:00 bags that are also moisture barrier bags
2:03 and theirs are completely sealed whereas Seagate just folds over a bag and then
2:08 puts a sticker on it as I recall so you
2:11 actually have to tear it open and you will find do not eat gel silica gel
2:17 don't eat it and then you will find a
2:21 hard drive so here is the Hitachi 1 tab hard drive that we are unboxing today it
2:26 is also quite shiny you can see the label up close in HD if you'd like don't
2:31 forget to set your uh your YouTube to HD so you can see that label and all its
2:36 labeled glory and then you can flip it over and you can see the controller oh
2:41 Controller made by LSI interesting didn't know that you can see
2:45 cash you can see some other stuff uh you
2:49 can see the SATA 2 interface so this is a SATA 2 drive so there's your power
2:53 there's your data and it's a 3 and 1/2 in drive so it uses your standard 123 or
2:58 one two uh um configuration for mounting
3:02 it to your case so it's compatible with pretty much any case out there thank you
3:05 for checking out my unboxing and I'm sorry for this incredibly pointless
3:09 unboxing but I have a much better topic coming up so stay tuned and it will all
3:13 be worth it don't forget to subscribe to both lus Tech tips as well as ncixcom
