0:56 CPU machine or more accurately the death of
1:02 the seven Gamers one CPU machine because
1:05 that is what we will be doing today we will be disassembling it we will be
1:10 tearing it limb from limb live for you
1:15 or on the uh video on demand for you holy crap I forgot how heavy this thing
1:20 was so I actually never really showed anything to do with the process of
1:25 building it if I recall correctly I
1:29 ended up just just like kind of building it during a WAN Show when when Luke was
1:32 hosting by himself so now I'm going to go ahead and take it
1:38 apart so yeah without further Ado I've got all my tools with me so I've got one
1:42 iix hit kit two iix hit
1:45 kits oh right it's an aluminum case there well I've got a magnetic Parts
1:49 tray for the magnetic parts that are inside it got my laptop so I can monitor
1:54 the twitch chat here and I have a lot of
1:58 water when I did the ultra wide Festival
2:02 winners like live build thing that I did I made the mistake of streaming for
2:07 almost 2 hours or however long it was with no freaking water huge huge problem
2:14 you guys would be amazed how much moisture you can expel just by talking
2:19 so I've never actually done a review of this case this is the case oh I've got a
2:23 lot of people asking me a lot of people asking me um guys are the reason I'm
2:29 taking it apart is because I take apart pretty much all
2:34 of the computers that we build there's almost nothing that we actually get to
2:38 keep forever I mean it's um and and even
2:41 if we even if we were able to hold on to the hardware I mean this
2:46 is just about the world's least practical computer in every possible way
2:52 like when you're flying that close to
2:56 the Sun it is pretty easy to get burned
2:59 so um it's you know compatibility with
3:02 USB devices when it posts isn't great um
3:07 just general behavior is not great it
3:10 kicks off a ton of heat it consumes a metric whack ton of power like there's a
3:16 lot of reasons I can think of to take apart this computer so that that my
3:21 friends would be why but I do have big
3:24 plans for a lot of the hardware that is still in here I'm just going to pull up
3:27 my USB drive so these USB drives here are actually what runs un raid the SSD
3:32 array in the bottom which I can probably get you guys a better angle at here so
3:36 this SSD array here in the bottom was only running the 7 VM so I had uh 8
3:41 terabytes so about actually only about 500 gigs per VM because I was running
3:47 with a redundant uh storage setup I've actually this is cool so I've actually
3:51 got another camera angle for you guys today uh compared to the last one of
3:55 these streams I did I'm kind of trying this out as a new format um wow that is
4:00 not focusing at all come on Mr webcam

4:08 uh at what I'm doing in certain cases I don't know if we ever actually showed
4:12 super close up how to remove those cards so that's one thing that I'm going to
4:16 I'm going to try and show you guys with this camera angle if I if I can but yeah
4:20 in general this is uh this is a new format I'm trying out where I just kind
4:23 of do things live because the reality of it is I'm working on this stuff anyway
4:28 so y'all might as well come along for the ride if you're into that sort of
4:32 thing I mean people watch each other play video games on Twitch they might as
4:37 well watch each other build computers it's not that different is it okay so
4:42 the way the cas laabs S8 comes comes apart actually I I kind of wish I had
4:46 done a review or something of the case before I I went ahead and did seven
4:51 Gamers cuz it's it's pretty nice I quite
4:54 like it like there's some sort of like
4:57 you know it doesn't have the same you know Beauty I guess as something like a
5:03 Le and Lee but it definitely has like this industrial Beauty to it that I
5:07 personally uh can can quite appreciate and I have
5:12 realized that um I uh made a mistake and
5:18 I am planning to disassemble a water cooled computer and I did not bring a
5:25 bucket so I will do that and I will be
5:29 right back I I am pretty sure that my
5:33 audio device is going to is going to work for as far as I need to go so I'll
5:40 excuse me I will I will try and keep you guys company but uh no guarantees on
5:45 that one I just need to find a
5:48 bucket I am talking to the stream not to myself people around here
5:54 they're looking at me like I'm crazy that Brandon guy who are you talking to
6:00 maybe to my imaginary friend are you going to judge me I could hear him
6:04 judging I could hear him judging right in his
6:08 voice either that or I'm just reading too much into it and uh and lashing out
6:14 I mean maybe this stream is a good time to discuss my personality
6:18 flaws or maybe I have the bucket I
6:22 need and I am ready to continue working

6:44 uh for for hating on Brandon I I don't hate on Brandon I love Brandon that's
6:48 why that's why I control Brandon like that me and Brandon we're like

7:00 man this thing's heavy so we're going to start by draining the water and this is
7:04 something that there's no real one way
7:07 to do I mean sure professional Builders
7:11 will say stuff like well you should really have like a a drain point in your
7:16 Loop or something or something but the way that I actually usually do it I'm
7:21 just going to go ahead and I'm going to prop up wow I don't have an easy a
7:28 really easy access access to the
7:32 um to any of the tubing here this is uh
7:36 this one right here is kind of a funny story actually why don't I why don't I
7:40 talk about that before we go any further so the here we go let's switch angles
7:46 here so the original spec for the system
7:49 called for the one pump here with the reservoir attached to it and I had
7:54 originally thought that EK was going to provide me with
8:01 oh no there it is sorry sorry sorry so eekk
8:07 was going to provide me with a block for the seven cards that was parallel so so
8:12 that is to say that the the restrictiveness of it would be very low
8:16 but it's actually serial so it goes through one block then the next then the next then the next then the next then
8:20 the next um so I actually ended up having to add another pump at the last
8:23 minute an adventure that ended up causing
8:27 uh uh Taran and I to spill uh a bunch of
8:32 water onto the system it was incredibly
8:36 incredibly scary um so I think I'm going
8:39 to use that point as my access point
8:42 here so like I said most professional you know water cooled machine Builders
8:47 will tell you oh well you should have like a drain port and you should do all this stuff and you should that is indeed
8:51 the correct way to do it but what I usually do is not bother with that and
8:56 then I'll just rip off a piece of tubing somewhere that I'm you know at least 90%
9:02 certain it will not uh leak onto anything else so first let's get some of
9:06 our cable management ties out of here and then that looks like a pretty uh
9:10 pretty good candidate right there so I'm going to do my best to get
9:14 you guys a reasonable angle at what that
9:18 I'm what I'm doing here
9:21 um and okay here we
9:26 go wow this is not gonna be this is not
9:29 going to be an easy thing though so basically I'm going to take my bucket
9:34 I'm going to put it right here and then I'm going to crack open one of these
9:40 fittings and start draining it and
9:43 you're going to see a lot of things that are not necessarily the industry
9:46 accepted best practices on this stream but
9:51 frankly a lot of the stuff that I do isn't industry best practices and I
9:55 think I like to think that's one of the things we like about me
9:59 shut up Brandon yeah the audio is great on the
10:04 uh on the interface yeah it sounds really good I just had to play around
10:08 with the um delays I still want to know
10:12 why the audio wasn't working to begin with too yeah funny funny story guys um I
10:19 probably have about 40 like test recording Clips here um of trying to get
10:24 this stream working
10:40 uh yeah so we finally got it working anyway that is the quick and dirty and
10:45 the empasis is on dirty way to get most
10:48 of the water out of a water cooling Loop so you can begin to disassemble it now I
10:52 don't think that I actually got anywhere
10:55 anything even resembling all of it so let me just find out where my uh
11:01 trying to remember which way things were going around let's go the other way see if I
11:05 can get some more out of those radiators cuz that is not enough
11:18 water oh man I don't know if I have the
11:21 lung capacity for 2360 RADS and seven GPU blocks
11:32 okay I mean that's the thing about doing something like this on stream right is
11:37 if I pass out you guys will call someone
11:44 right okay let's just call that good enough now when I say quick and dirty I
11:48 really do mean dirty um I'm not planning to reuse really any of these components
11:54 in any sort of reasonable time frame so they will have plenty of time for any
11:58 microbes that I just blew into them to die
12:01 um
12:05 yeah so now we can actually start
12:09 disconnecting many of the other components we're going to get a little bit of water on stuff but like I don't
12:14 know people freak out about electronics and water and my goodness but the
12:19 reality of it is the machine's not even booted up right now it's not powered on
12:22 there's literally no power to anything anywhere um so the actual chances of
12:27 damaging it with water are are very very
12:30 slim I mean I have washed motherboards
12:34 like literally soap and water washed motherboards long story what it had on
12:39 it that needed to be washed off but I have done that and then allowed it to
12:43 dry for like two weeks in a hot place
12:47 with air flow and with any you know applicable heat sinks or or nooks and
12:51 crannies exposed so that you can really dry everything out and um I have yet to
12:57 have something that was off that got just water now to be clear I'm talking
13:01 fresh water here I'm not talking salt water I'm not talking contaminated water
13:05 but anything that's just gotten like fresh clean water on it I've yet to have
13:09 anything that had any lasting effects all right so bump number one is
13:13 out um and we can maybe we'll pull out
13:17 pump number two now this one was not quite as simple to get at I'm going to
13:21 switch to my overhead view here to try and show you guys what I'm doing
13:25 now all right Boop there we go
13:29 so pump number two I got to remove these front panel pieces I do like how much of
13:34 this case is actually tooless um for such a sort of industrial
13:39 feeling
13:43 design just take out these and it's really really modular as well which is
13:47 which is really cool they're really really good guys over there at Cas laabs
13:50 we've literally never worked with them before this but uh they were like way on
13:55 board to uh to help us out with this project they even custom painted the
13:59 side of the chassis forest and stuff like that which was which was really really cool of them I mean obviously you
14:04 know they get something out of it you know they get the exposure in the video
14:08 but um still you know not everyone not everyone wants to work with you so so
14:14 it's nice when people do oh that's interesting okay I think I
14:18 might have might have forgotten how this
14:22 goes together um and there may not be an easy
14:27 what how did this work what what the
14:31 crap does this one pop off the other
14:36 thing what
14:39 the HM okay I have forgotten how this

14:55 way I think I have a screwdriver for that in here

15:38 take clothes off seductively if you actually don't show any skin like where
15:43 is the

15:52 okay oh 3,000 people watching me take apart a computer imagine if I was
15:57 actually like building one well no I don't have to imagine that we
16:01 actually did do a stream about that before but um okay all right this is
16:07 probably the most tedious thing about my
16:10 job is disassembling the computers that
16:15 I spent all this time building um like there's
16:21 nothing rewarding feeling about it it's
16:24 nice that you guys are here to keep me company um cuz I usually just do this by
16:29 myself but uh yeah pretty much every machine that we've ever built like the
16:33 number of people who asked me uh you know why I thought my threeyear old
16:37 needed a you know $3,000 gaming machine of course not I'm just making videos I'm
16:42 just making videos on the internet
16:45 um so yeah pretty much every machine that you've ever seen has been
16:50 disassembled shortly after we built it with a couple of exceptions so personal
16:54 rigs um they're called personal rig update because that's my personal rig
17:00 um the oil machine has not yet been disassembled and I never intended to
17:05 disassemble it but I'm going to have to now because it's um it's damaged leaks
17:12 which is a super bummer okay so this RADS out we're going
17:17 to go ahead and retrieve the old bucket
17:21 here and pop off a couple of fittings
17:24 sorry I'm having a hard time keeping keeping your guys's angle very good you
17:30 know what okay hopefully I don't break all of Brandon's hard

17:47 better yeah now you guys can actually see what I'm doing cuz I might be over here on the edge of the table sometimes
17:53 especially if I have this this bucket here oh I've got people asking where the
17:57 oil machine is leaking it's actually leaking in exactly the same spot as last
18:02 time down the back seam um and I tried to repair it I did like a vlog video
18:07 where I where I actually showed the you know as far as I can tell correct repair
18:12 process but it didn't hold and unfortunately due to a patent troll
18:18 everybody's favorite people Puget is not allowed to manufacture those cases
18:22 anymore so I can't even get a new case to transplant it into so the entire
18:27 thing is just just dead now
18:32 unfortunately yeah uh yeah this video is going to be on YouTube as well um for
18:37 whoever that is that asked it um yeah

19:50 another really cool project planned for them very very soon like a full Linus
19:55 Tech tips Edition build and I know this
19:58 ended up kind of being that with the uh the black and orange color scheme but
20:03 the other one's going to be a much more realistic machine um one that I would
20:07 actually expect people to be able to buy
20:11 um so it's going to be off the-shelf
20:14 black and orange components with one exception I am planning to paint a
20:19 reference NVIDIA cooler so that one
20:22 should be pretty cool I considered just using something from someone like I
20:27 believe both Gigabyte and Zotac have
20:30 black and orange themed cards but I mean I wanted to spice up the build a little
20:35 bit so I'm actually I've got some of it's ordered already some of it I still
20:39 need to order but I've got some Automotive grade paint like the same kind of stuff that we used in that LG
20:43 monitor painting guide and I'm going to be showing you guys how to paint
20:48 disassemble paint and then reassemble your NVIDIA reference cooler should be
20:53 good should be good I'm really looking forward to it okay so this radiator I'm
20:57 actually not as worried about leakage
21:00 with uh just because the barbs are on the top side but we still might get a
21:05 couple drips so I'm going to try and get my my water bucket pretty close to it um
21:09 you'll notice that what I'm doing is I am removing fittings or I I'm removing
21:14 the fittings and I am um taking the tubing off of components that are very
21:19 unlikely to be damaged by water like a radiator so here I'll actually I'll get
21:24 you guys my uh my other camera angle here sorry I apologize to people who get
21:29 motion sick for for that so what I'll do is I'll leave this tube attached to the
21:34 video card because if I were to take this fitting off then what would happen
21:39 potentially is any little drips here would go right onto the motherboard
21:43 whereas if I leave the tube here then at
21:46 least I can kind of tie it up somewhere like up on this piece of metal or
21:50 something so I can keep it from dripping and then if anything drips off of this
21:54 radiator well no big deal because it's just going to fall down into to my
21:59 bucket and I apologize for the frame rate on that camera too I don't know
22:03 what the deal is with that maybe I can fix it sorry give me just uh give me
22:07 just one second here guys I'm just going to switch to it and see if maybe it's
22:10 set to like 15 FPS or something like that I don't know what the deal is uh no

22:20 it's it's running super trash though I don't know what the problem is normally
22:24 those webcams are really good we use them all the time but I'm I'm Linus
22:29 I can break a live stream I can break tall live streams with a single bound
22:35 Etc I don't know what it is I'm like snake bitten like Luke doesn't even get
22:39 it cuz he streams all the time like all the time from home and he's just like
22:44 yep I know how to use this software you're definitely using it right uh we
22:47 have better Hardware at the office also the same hardware and we sometimes we
22:51 end up like going through the whole everything and it just uh doesn't
22:56 work sorry I'm not crying I'm just I'm a Feeling a little under the weather right
22:59 now feeling a little sick so I was commenting to Luke today I don't
23:03 remember the last time I actually had a a sick day that I was able to take off
23:09 being self-employed there are good things about it for sure like I love my
23:13 job I am not complaining that it is my job to hang out with you guys and take
23:18 apart this computer right now but uh the
23:22 the vacation the vacation negotiation uh between my union rep and
23:27 my employer did not go particularly well tell you that much all right
23:33 so Pro tip keep all your fittings
23:37 together so if you've got like uh hold
23:41 Downs for compression fittings put those on the barbs as you go because otherwise
23:45 you're going to be running around after the fact trying to figure out what the
23:48 heck what the heck happened to everything all right so
23:52 now we've got most of the really bulky
23:56 water cooling stuff removed from the system so we can start to focus in on
24:02 removing some of the some of the blocks I really like getting all the water
24:06 stuff out before I do really anything else because
24:12 um it kind of holds everything in it's the piece that went in last so I find
24:17 it's the piece that's easiest to take out
24:21 first I got someone suggesting I buy a lonus clone to do the extra
24:26 work got people asking about Union no no
24:30 lineus Media Group is uh definitely not
24:34 uh not Union we uh I I don't even I
24:37 don't even begin to know what the process would be um or yeah anything
24:44 like that okay got an extra tube here don't
24:50 need that anymore actually you know what I'll just put those in my water bucket
24:54 believe it or not it's very difficult to damage a piece of tubing with water so
24:58 you you can kind of throw all your water water junk into the into the water
25:02 bucket try and contain it last thing you want is a bunch of
25:07 water kind of all over the place when you're trying to take out the rest of
25:10 the components because like I said um you know clean water generally not
25:14 really a problem but bearing in mind
25:18 that the water in a system like this and this one hasn't been running very long
25:21 so it's less of a concern but the water in a system like this can pick up
25:25 contaminants from things like the copper blocks so you can end up up with copper
25:29 ions in your Loop and um and and it can
25:32 end up being a problem and copper ions aren't the only ones actually this is
25:36 really good water cooler trick that most novices don't know these days but um
25:42 putting a piece of silver in your Loop I've actually run um silver silverplated
25:47 fittings before it worked just great putting a piece of silver in your Loop
25:51 acts as a natural bioside so you don't have to deal with uh any funky business
25:56 growing in your water Without Really adding anything I've had a lot of people
26:00 ask me over the years uh what's the best fluid for water cooling and I say well
26:03 it's right in the name water water is the best thing for
26:08 water cooling a lot of show builds are going to use you know fancy fluids that
26:14 have like these milky cloudy effects and like do all this crazy stuff uh but the
26:19 reality of it is you ask even those professional modders who use that stuff
26:23 um in the show builds that they do they're all going to tell you exactly
26:27 the same thing if you are building like a 247 like a daily driver machine you
26:33 water cool with water if you want to not
26:36 have to deal with any hassle down the road I really like this uh Reservoir and
26:42 pump combo the DK sent over for this build it's actually aside from the seven
26:47 GPU block um like uh splitter thing is
26:52 probably my favorite piece of it because so many pump reservoir combos use the DD
26:58 d c and I am not sold on the DDC I have
27:02 had almost every DDC that I've ever used
27:05 for an extended period of time has failed whereas the D5 in my personal rig
27:10 was manufactured in like 2008 or something stupid like that I've never
27:14 had a D5 fail on me I mean I worked at a retailer I've seen the failure rates um
27:18 the D5 is definitely the more reliable and the thing that really bothers me
27:22 more about the DDC is everyone talks about how quiet it is it is not quiet it
27:27 has a very distinctive wine especially
27:30 compared to a D5 at very low RPM so uh
27:34 very few guys make Reservoir pump combo units with the D5 but EK did and I'm uh
27:39 very happy that they did I really like this one sorry guys I apologize for my
27:45 sniffles I know no one wants to hear that but uh I mean hey you're here so
27:49 maybe you are into that I don't know all right so I'm going to put that over
27:54 there actually I'm going to put these RADS over here as well we actually just
27:58 got a new guy today who is supposed to help with stuff like tearing down
28:03 machines but um I didn't want his first assignment to be taking apart a
28:09 literally $30,000 computer well okay
28:13 okay okay strictly speaking the tower is only about 20 $21,000 but um so I was
28:18 including the monitors in that overall in that overall cost of the system but
28:23 um I mean even so does that really make a difference I didn't want his first
28:27 assignment to be a 20,000 computer either so I figured I'd do this
28:30 one and I kind of like the idea of streaming it I wanted to see if you guys
28:33 like this you can give me some feedback in the twitch chat if you think the the
28:37 format is good I mean we're always trying new things but it's it gets hard
28:42 like you know try and wrap your brain around this for a moment but I have done
28:47 something in the neighborhood of
28:51 3500 YouTube videos like it's
28:55 ridiculous and the object is to come up
28:59 with something different and unique every time and so you know if you're not
29:02 trying to experiment with new formats all the time then you're can totally
29:07 fail
29:10 um oh what what the heck that's
29:15 weird uh okay looks like we need a new
29:18 battery on the other camera I will uh call in air support and hopefully we will get that
29:23 resolved very very quickly actually my setup is uh my setup is pretty good
29:28 today I actually have the stream monitored over there and uh I have my
29:34 lifeline Brandon who will come you know
29:37 what I I hear someone coming already I suspect someone else in the office has
29:41 already clued into this and is on their way up here with a battery look it's
29:46 Blandon oh I was about to call you yeah can I get a battery for that one I need
29:51 something El oh you need my stuff ah I see okay don't bump that AVX by the way
29:56 I figured out why it was turning off I I think the battery connection is loose yeah so when you were like moving
30:01 it around in the socket it derped I
30:04 wasn't moving around yeah you did you you flipped it from the orientation I
30:08 had to Vertical so that was why it cut out I think we're always learning new things
30:13 about how our equipment is broken audio is the worst like we have so many
30:18 lavalier microphones all of which are like you know $200 $300 or
30:24 whatever um
30:28 and yeah like many many many of them
30:32 have died I think we do go kind of hard on our on our equipment

31:30 I don't envy the full-time twitch streamers I mean I I I like I get it
31:34 like I I hear all the sort of you know people who have to work at a real job
31:39 sort of arguments like they get paid to play video games I I I get that um but
31:44 the reality of it is is that like being on all the time being live like that is
31:49 actually really mentally fatiguing and I
31:53 mean the kinds the kind of stuff that those guys have to go through whether
31:57 it's you you know their network connections being attacked or whether
32:01 it's like I mean all the kind of stupid stuff that happens you know twitch chat
32:05 being mean or you know wardrobe malfunctions or you know whatever kind
32:09 of kind of problems they have um especially technical difficulties man
32:15 when you are live and you have technical difficulties it is horrible whereas
32:20 everything we do is is edited so if
32:23 there's a problem like we get a chance to fix it if there's like a hitch in the
32:26 audio then you know whatever we can like we
32:31 get a chance to fix it and post whereas when you're live like everything you do

32:49 or something I don't I don't really know exactly how I'm going to tackle this but
32:53 uh so the process for removing these graphics cards is redon so basically I
32:58 have to go I have to pull the tab of the
33:02 very bottom one first then while I'm
33:05 lifting the entire block of cards I have
33:09 to pull the tab on the second one then
33:12 kind of keeping the angle up I have to pull the tab on the third one then the
33:16 fourth one actually you can tell they're all kind of loose right now um I was
33:21 messing around with it a little bit to get the um seven people actually gaming
33:24 on it as well as the overclocking video that's coming done but um yeah actually
33:30 it looks like it's G to be relatively easy right now here but you kind of have
33:33 to pull it up here and then I have to pry it up from the other side so I got
33:38 to kind of pry it up this way then when
33:42 that's loose see you can see all the tabs tightened again I've got to pull on
33:46 all the tabs again and then finally I can remove the
33:51 bloody thing I mean this was
33:54 not not the kind of build that I would
33:58 that I would recommend that anyone do I mean and there are other issues too like
34:02 one of the big ones that we had to contend with throughout this is that
34:05 AMD's uh support for VMS in this way is
34:09 very very poor uh they took a bit of a shortcut or they claim they didn't but
34:15 it appears that they took a bit of a shortcut on the uh Fiji architecture
34:20 cards that makes it so that when you soft power down a virtual
34:26 machine the card doesn't properly reboot
34:31 like it doesn't properly reset oh okay there it
34:35 goes oh boy here show this to you guys there you
34:41 go oh so there it is the card block the
34:45 block of cards the card brick so
34:49 bad there you go it's like and it weighs
34:54 so much like it is so freaking heavy um
34:59 anyway so what happens is when you reboot a VM like a soft like a oh it's
35:03 pouring water all over the place uh I guess we should do this first like a
35:07 soft reset um the the car doesn't
35:11 actually properly reboot and so what happens is it doesn't give up its
35:15 resources again so when the when the rebooted like the new the fresh soft
35:21 reboot tries to grab the cardigan the
35:25 resources are already in use by the previous
35:28 by the previous boot I'm really not explaining this very well actually
35:31 normally I'm better at this see this is the kind of thing I'm talking about live streaming is difficult
35:36 um but the way that NVIDIA handles it is
35:39 even with a soft reset the card will release all the resources and it's all
35:44 good to go there is a workaround uh the workaround and and this is like this is
35:49 like insanity uh so the workaround is that in the uh safely add and remove
35:54 Hardware uh system tray thing what you
35:58 can do is you can eject your GPU and
36:01 then you can go back to unraid so you can navigate to it on the network um and
36:07 then you can stop the VM that way but I
36:12 mean the issue is that when you're trying to troubleshoot something the odds of being able
36:17 to properly eject something and then
36:20 shut down the machine is very slim so what would happen and this was just
36:26 infuriating what would happen is anytime I had a
36:30 problem with any VM that caused it to have to be rebooted anything but
36:33 perfectly gracefully and by the way that solution didn't always work um what I
36:38 would have to do was I would have to shut down all the VMS then I would have
36:42 to reboot the machine which takes about 4 minutes because of all the hardware
36:46 connected to it that uh unraid had to detect then I would have to start up all
36:53 the VMS again and then like you know it doesn't sound that bad but you know let
36:56 me tell you when you were working on something under a time crunch you know
37:00 waiting it was around a total of about an 8 to 10 minute process every time I
37:05 had an issue with a VM and I had to reboot one of them it would have been
37:10 made a lot simpler if I could reboot one at a time but I had to do the whole
37:14 entire system and sometimes it took a
37:17 lot longer than that like for example if I had to here I'll give you guys the
37:21 overhead view I'm actually doing stuff right now so if I had to for example um
37:26 open up a bunch of benchmarks so that I could run all the benchmarks at the same
37:30 time or let's say I was in the middle of running a benchmark like fire strike for
37:34 example and one of the VMS um you know
37:37 crashes or does something so now I have to go back shut down everything reboot
37:44 everything wait around for that then I have to fire up all the VMS after I've
37:49 like diagnosed what's going wrong then
37:52 then lucky me I get to fire up all of
37:56 those programs again one by one and then I get to start them again and then I get
37:59 to hope they finish this time and this system was not particularly
38:07 stable so it's funny I actually um my
38:10 contacted unraid sorry this a USB this
38:13 is so this like this is the kind of stupid stuff that I get to deal with
38:17 here guys check this out and it's like it's not a huge deal
38:23 but when you're in a hurry it's like the end of the world so you can see this
38:26 this USB 3 connector I was having a really hard time um
38:30 getting at releasing the gpus with the USB 3 plugged in and this USB header on
38:35 the board look at this it comes off the
38:39 pins it sticks the the connector here
38:42 sticks so hard in the socket that it just pulls the housing right off the
38:47 pins and that's the kind of stuff where it's
38:50 like I am in a hurry right now I'm trying to make a video I do not have
38:55 time for this crap and it's constant it's constant
38:58 like what I don't know it's it's funny I was talking about how people talk about
39:02 how game streamers have an easy job people think I have an easy job too and
39:05 like I said I love my job but it is and
39:09 I broke it broke the housing well I do
39:13 love my job but it is not necessarily as
39:16 easy as a lot of people think that it is
39:20 so now I'll just put the broken housing back on there I mean whatever it's not
39:23 like uh it's not like I'm which one is it
39:28 one it's not like I have any warranty coverage on this board
39:32 anyway there we go USB 3 is actually surprisingly hard
39:37 to line up when you're doing this USB 2 is really easy but the pins are so small
39:42 for USB 3 and if you line it up wrong you'll end up crushing one of the pins
39:46 and folding it flat onto the board which is a big problem um because then you
39:51 have to bend it back and get it just perfect USB 2 is easy like I mean these
39:55 things come off all the time it's not it's not a huge deal or anything it's
39:59 just annoying when you're in a hurry and
40:02 you have to like yank and replace a stupid header
40:06 housing every time you need to do something it's
40:12 ridiculous wow 4,300 viewers on uh
40:16 taking apart a computer you guys always you guys always impress me like I never
40:20 I never know this is a funny thing too like I I don't consume a lot of online
40:25 video mostly because I just really don't have time I'm too busy making it um so a
40:31 lot of the time I'm just kind of taking a shot in the dark at what I think
40:35 people might like because cuz I'm not really making something designed for
40:39 myself like I think it's it's really easy for me to do something like the um
40:44 the LTT Edition knock to a fan like to come up with an
40:48 idea like including a fanhub
40:52 sticker inside the box and I'll like one does that and to
40:58 me as an Enthusiast it's really easy to come up with an idea like that because I
41:02 think well man you know there's only one
41:05 way to install a fan out of four where the the rear hub sticker is correctly
41:11 aligned with you know gravity so you can read whatever's on it or whatever else
41:16 so why don't we just include a sticker and people can Orient it whatever way
41:19 they want it's like so it's easy for me
41:22 to think of something like that because I am the target audience but actually
41:26 making video I love technology I mean I love I nerd
41:30 out over this stuff I really really do but when it comes to you know what
41:36 formats people want to experience technology with me and it's really not
41:42 always that straightforward for me and I'm just kind of
41:48 guessing ah and I got these Wicked sniffles I really hope that I feel
41:53 better very soon because this sucks
41:57 it super duper sucks the big one I feel like I've been sick for months I
42:01 actually wasn't sick at CES for the first time ever but I was sick before it
42:05 and I am now sick after it I'm very thankful though that I
42:10 wasn't sick at CES getting sick at CES is such a bummer but I have kids now so
42:14 I think that's a big part of the problem is they go to Like pre- Preschool or
42:18 whatever and they come home with all the germs that their little germ friends
42:22 gave them and uh I'm the one who gets to
42:26 be sick I mean they get sick too I guess and
42:29 then I get to deal with that so I'm sick I'm dealing with a sick whiny kid and
42:33 I'm sick being an adult
42:36 sucks if anyone had told me that you know being an adult was like this I
42:41 might not have bothered waiting around for it um okay actually I know again I
42:47 love my life my life is good I'm not complaining I'm just saying I hate being
42:51 sick and I think we can all relate to that so this is most of the action right
42:56 here here uh some people probably saw like Instagram posts or whatever else
43:00 but I didn't really talk much about this
43:04 motherboard and what made it special so this is a good opportunity to do it so
43:09 two sockets was requirement number one I
43:12 needed two sockets I also needed a motherboard that had seven PCI Express
43:17 slots there are lots out there that have six okay and six is relatively easy
43:23 because especially if you're doing two sockets like this you want to do and you
43:28 want to do more dim slots a lot of motherboard manufacturers will put a bunch of dim slots up here and a bunch
43:32 down here and you end up eating one or even two of these slots with all of
43:37 these PCI Express slots with all the memory dim slots that you're putting on
43:40 the board and even like even putting more to these sides here you end up with
43:44 kind of like a wider board sometimes or you end up with like an offset here of
43:48 the memory that ends up eating up one of these slots so finding one with seven
43:51 PCI Express slots real challenge this one also had a
43:57 couple other things that made it very desirable so number one is that it has
44:03 um an ikvm header so I've actually already purchased a module and I would
44:07 go get it but it'd be kind of a waste of time um you guys are you guys are live
44:10 here um so I purchased a little module that I can put on here that will allow
44:13 me to control this board remotely over the network even if it's powered off I'm
44:17 going to do a video about um about ipmi
44:21 a little bit in the future here because it's pretty cool stuff it's only really
44:24 applicable to very high-end stuff but I I person def think it's neat so I'm
44:27 going to make a video about it deal with it and then the other thing that it has
44:30 that is way more important than people probably thought is this it has Onboard
44:37 video so the Onboard video is actually closely related to that Remote
44:42 Management feature because that Onboard video is what the Remote Management
44:46 feature uses and is able to uh to Output
44:49 to even when the system is powered down so this VGA port the Onboard video on
44:54 this motherboard is what allowed me to have unraid grabbed that and allowed me
45:00 to use all seven of my plugged-in graphics cards for seven discret VMS uh
45:06 the other really cool thing that we got going on here I mean aside from you know
45:09 CPUs forun oh yeah right no more about the motherboard first actually so uh it
45:13 also has multiple usb3 controllers so what I plan to deploy this board to do
45:18 in the future is uh two ingest stations
45:21 so people can um ingest their footage at the same time uh whereas right now the
45:27 system we have is a bit of a bottleneck so I'm planning to use it for that so having two different onboard usb3
45:31 controllers is good cuz I can pass through controllers to a VM which allows
45:36 us to have hot plug within a virtual machine so each of our machines will
45:40 effectively be using like if you slice the motherboard down the middle it will
45:44 be using 128 gigs of RAM actually I'll probably swap out this RAM for something
45:47 lower capacity but it'll be using half of the RAM half the CPU and then you
45:51 know half of the USB controllers each one will get a GPU and then some other
45:54 hardware and uh then the other thing it had again like there's still more
45:58 there's a lot that makes this board pretty much the only thing I could have
46:03 used it has 12 C ports so that gave me
46:06 eight for my ssds and I had planned to have four 8 tbte hard drives for mass
46:11 storage for the VMS but that didn't end up working out because the case didn't
46:14 have anywhere to mount them uh because they screwed up the adapter they sent me
46:18 then it has this this is an auxiliary power connector for the graphics card
46:23 slots and this became a big issue back in the days when three-way and four-way
46:28 SLI first started popping up is you would actually have people because these
46:33 these cards were so power hungry you would have people burning out the slots
46:38 on their motherboards on motherboards that didn't
46:43 have these auxiliary power connectors because I mean if you think about it
46:48 like it's not magic you know each of these I think is rated for 75 watts and
46:53 then you've got the um the connectors that plug into the backs of the cards as
46:56 well well but that doesn't mean that they're not drawing from the slot so all of a sudden you know 300 uh 450 I mean
47:03 we're talking 500 watts going through what these tiny little traces here
47:07 that's ridiculous so the auxiliary power
47:10 helps augment what's coming from the 24 pin which is way up here all the way
47:15 across the board uh by feeding these a little bit more so that helps out the
47:18 ones that are plugged into the back of the card so I was hopeful that having a
47:21 board that had that feature uh would help um and then finally I think there
47:28 was one other thing that mattered I mean it looks cool so there's that uh no I
47:34 actually oh oh yeah okay so it did have support for the uh these are 32 Gigabyte
47:39 memory sticks here from Kingston so it had support from those and Kingston was
47:44 a sponsor for the project the the system was on display in their booth at CES and
47:47 all that so being compatible with their latest and greatest memory was really
47:51 really key on this and I think yeah that's pretty much
47:55 about it so I can't wait to uh to roll this roll this baby out because I other
48:00 than you know the flakiness with the cards I was using um pretty much all of
48:05 which I can explain away due to the cards I was using which I used because
48:09 they were uh very power efficient because they were very short I was
48:13 really worried about clearance issues with like stuff over here if we had full
48:17 length cards um I'm pretty sure most of
48:20 the issues I had with the machine can be explained Away by the
48:23 cards man that was frustrating though
48:27 I mean people often ask me why I use the hardware that I use for a given project
48:34 um and I pretty much use whatever I'm sure
48:42 pretty sure is going to work best and even in those cases I end up with I end
48:46 up with some issues but uh
48:49 yeah I'm not a fan of anything except
48:53 stuff that works so why do we use things
48:57 that we use generally speaking for some compelling reason like it's the only
49:01 product that is in the form factor that we need it to be in in order for this
49:05 project to be a go like a perfect example would be uh that ASRock uh mini
49:11 ITX um LGA 2011 board that we did our 18
49:15 core shoe box machine in well they've got the only
49:19 ITX um 2011 3 motherboard so what else am I
49:24 going to use or it's the thing that I am most
49:29 confident will actually function which is surprisingly hard I
49:34 mean when when like and we encounter a lot of issues that most people never
49:38 would because we're pushing this stuff to limits that it was never really
49:43 intended to be pushed
49:47 to like I guarantee you no one at AMD I
49:50 guarantee it 100% no one at AMD has ever
49:54 put seven fijes in a single motherboard and I also
49:59 guarantee you that no one at ASUS ever
50:02 put oh hold on this is going to be bad
50:05 no one ever put seven high powered graphics cards in that
50:11 motherboard how do I know they didn't do this because that's not how validation
50:16 Labs work they don't do some like
50:19 completely like ass crazy thing they do
50:23 what they expect most people to run which is why most most people will never
50:27 encounter the problem the kinds of problems that we
50:31 do um so it's frustrating because people
50:34 will get upset with us about you know oh you know I have one of these and it's great why aren't you using it well
50:38 because maybe we've had issues with it that you've never seen before and we
50:42 just tend to go with whatever we think has the best chance of working in some
50:46 kind of like Bizarro land uh scenario
50:49 like oh I don't know putting seven graphics cards in a single
50:55 machine ah
50:59 yes I am planning to upload this stream to uh YouTube and to vessel that is a
51:04 plan I think last time I did a simultaneous release but this time I am
51:09 not because last time was sort of like a weird experiment thing like I I wanted
51:14 to do a video of building the machine because LG needed a video of the
51:20 machine um but the winner was supposed to do it but I still had all his
51:24 Hardware so I was like look I'll just do a video and I came up with this idea
51:28 okay I'll just like I'll I'll live stream it because we don't have any editing resources right now and then
51:33 people liked it it's like okay sure I
51:36 mean what do I know anyway I love these cables these are
51:43 awesome super big fan of these cable mod cables we've been using for our our
51:48 projects here actually a friend of mine is one of the founders of cable mod um
51:54 they like they're they're cool guys they're just it's like yeah like whatever projects you guys do we want to

53:07 like I don't know if you can see them in there see I used like massive strips of
53:11 them which was definitely a mistake but I had thought at the time that we were
53:15 going to be shipping this system down to CES so I wanted them in there like
53:19 really good last thing I want is to send a machine to Kingston to Showcase in
53:24 their booth that has like the Kingston SSD is all like banged up and all over
53:29 the inside of the uh oh
53:32 wow how the crap am I going to get these

54:02 although I can tell you that did not work on the Intel 750 series SSD that I

54:22 so I uh actually this is kind of funny normally a sample product like that
54:27 would have no warranty because it would be an engineering sample with no serial
54:31 number and stuff like that but um long
54:34 story but I had a retail 750 series SSD
54:39 so I contacted Intel's warranty department I'm like yo um so I broke
54:45 this is there anything you can do for me and they were like no you're an idiot
54:50 basically um wait did you inventory this
54:53 yeah uh this is a drive uh the sticker goes on the drive and the packaging gets
54:58 thrown away don't worry about it you're still learning sorry that's our new guy
55:03 um he's learning how to inventory things
55:07 I will tell you his name once he gets past his probation we've learned a valuable lesson about introducing people
55:11 on the channel before they uh before they
55:15 actually officially make it like we had
55:18 one guy we had the last guy who was in his position lasted for two shifts he

55:27 the kind of work that I had in mind and I was just like
55:30 well this is exactly what I told you you'd be doing so I really don't
55:35 understand where that expectation came from but that's okay you know no hard

56:58 here so right so this did not work for the SSD but in the case of the SSD I was

57:16 good um like that I just kind of flexed too much and uh like disconnected
57:23 something from the board like it kind of works a little like Windows will pick it
57:26 up as an NVMe device but it can't you
57:29 know write anything to it the BIOS actually doesn't see it even though Windows kind of does like it's super
57:33 weird it's dead and Intel is just like yeah you you broke it dude and I'm like
57:37 yeah I know I told you I broke it and they're like well okay why did you call
57:42 then it's like I don't know maybe my internet Fame is worth
57:48 something turns out internet Fame is actually not worth much but for the
57:53 first time ever I was hanging out with um
57:57 techrax who busts up iPhones on YouTube

58:04 on YouTube but doesn't unbox like slices things open um and we were at the
58:09 International Auto Show and we went we tried to go to a restaurant like we were

63:28 probably don't know unless you've like you know read a lot of SSD reviews
63:33 online is that the stuff inside an SSD there's actually not a whole lot of it
63:39 um so even if you were to bend the outer casing a fair bit the odds of that
63:44 damaging any of the internal guts is is pretty slim it can bend a fair bit
63:49 before the internal PCB which does have to stay pretty much straight um would be
63:54 bent out of whack slice slice slice slice slice

65:05 how would I describe it it's kind of like a kind of more like sap than an
65:10 actual than an actual tape um and it seems to not really work very well over
65:15 long periods of time so I've actually stopped using it uh I did my cable
65:20 manage the last thing I did with it was my cable manage your desk the manly way
65:24 video and everything that I mounted with it has fallen off in that time um just
65:30 from you know I guess being a relatively hot place or whatever else like it's not
65:34 even that hot like it's a climate control office but there is some
65:38 sunlight that comes into it so I'm just kind of guessing at this point but um
65:42 I've also had some issues with it with UV lighting like UV case
65:46 lighting uh that makes the that makes the adhesive turn really really hard as
65:52 well this stuff's great like if the idea is to
65:56 stick something to something Forever This stuff's really
66:00 good I wish they had this adhesive on the other side of the velcro that would

67:34 this here's is kind of a good one we were trying to film an episode of uh
67:39 holy bleep the other day and I got these
67:44 really cool dish-based internet doodads from
67:50 ubiquity so there are these point-to-point
67:53 um like huge dish things that allow you
67:58 to send a network connection anywhere from you know depending on the skew on
68:03 whoops dropped my knife anywhere depending on the skew on their website
68:06 anywhere from like I think like 20 kilm to up to 200 plus
68:11 kilomet and I had a bunch of pieces of
68:15 stuff that they sent me and so I grabbed them all and we started filming the
68:18 video and I realized halfway through the video that I had two different products
68:25 so one of them was a 200 plus kilom
68:29 product that you needed a separate antenna for that they didn't send so I
68:33 knew nothing about any of that and then the other one so so I
68:38 didn't even have all the pieces of that one and that was the one I started with and then the other one was a complete
68:42 kit like completely Standalone kit by itself it was like 150 bucks like it was
68:47 actually relatively affordable whereas the other one was like Enterprise grade
68:51 like super expensive stuff so we actually filmed half a video of me
68:56 explaining what we were going to make the video about and it turned out that
68:59 it was completely the wrong product completely the wrong product so what we
69:05 ended up doing was we changed gears and we kind of went um okay so let's let's
69:10 redo let's redo the footage here and we
69:14 will um so we'll just redo the intro and we're we'll just start with this one the
69:19 the one that we actually have all the pieces for so we filmed most of it and
69:23 then um it got to be the end of the day i'
69:27 had to go home I had to go home and we weren't quite done yet so I was like
69:31 okay so here's what I'll do we'll we'll come in tomorrow morning and we'll we'll
69:34 finish it off so after all that after refiling it twice or filming it twice
69:40 filming it once and then ref filming it get this SD card died this is the kind
69:46 of stuff that you guys never get to see like everyone's always like it's so easy
69:49 to make videos you just stand in front of a camera and talk for a bit you know what actually not um and okay admitt ly
69:55 that first problem could have been prevented by me actually looking at uh
70:00 what it was we were making a video about beforehand so okay fine but I like those
70:06 I like the holy bleep episodes to be very genuine like I want it to be the
70:10 initial reaction so I want it to be like okay here it is let's rip it out of the box and have a long range you know
70:14 network connection or whatever um but
70:18 the one where the SD card died like there's nothing we can do about that and like we we'll set out at the beginning
70:22 of the week with with all these goals SSD is all successfully removed by the
70:26 way all these videos we want to make and then we just get these obnoxious
70:31 curveballs thrown at us right like something dying in the middle of the
70:36 week um you know a USB header popping
70:39 off of a motherboard while you're trying to just just trying to work on
70:44 it so yeah I mean it's gotten to the
70:47 point now where for like personal
70:52 personal gear like when I was building up my wife's machine
70:56 am I putting you know an Rog board in there an NVMe SSD 10 gig network card no
71:03 man I'm not doing any of that stuff I
71:07 went with ASUS's um they call it their
71:10 channel series um internally anyway
71:13 excuse me uh but I went with their premium channel series board uh z170
71:19 Deluxe simple simple you know consumer
71:22 grade not like you know aiming or
71:26 whatever um went with just a 6600 GTX
71:31 6600 keeping it really simple you know went with just some some Corsair memory
71:37 like super basic memory not highp speed
71:41 we're talking like DDR3 2133 or something like that like very very base
71:45 model because that's the stuff that works and there's a reason for that it
71:49 actually makes sense if you understand the product development process um a
71:54 little bit so when you build a
71:58 product you can invest x amount of R&D
72:02 into it that has to be somehow proportional to the reward that you're
72:06 going to get from it and like a $500 motherboard you know yeah you're selling
72:10 a motherboard for $500 but the reality of it is that
72:14 you're not going to sell that many of them because who buys $500 motherboards
72:17 come on you got to be kidding me here right so the the board that's going to
72:22 sell the most is actually going to be the one that Returns the most for the
72:27 investment in it and the board that sells the most is going to be the one
72:31 with the most other people using it so
72:35 if the whole thing with products in the last well really forever has been that
72:41 the end user ends up being kind of a beta tester then what I tend to do these
72:45 days if I want something that's going to work is I'll go with the most mainstream
72:49 possible thing because that way a bunch of other people already bought it and
72:53 can already complain about it if it's not working properly and if there is a
72:58 huge issue with it the odds of the manufacturer having
73:03 to fix it in order to do damage control
73:06 is much higher because many many more of their customers have
73:09 it so the way I select products for our crazy projects and the way that I select
73:14 products for my own use are actually very very
73:18 different so there you go there's a little Pro tip for you guys there we go

73:31 know if you guys know this case mods cases aluminum really light it's only
73:35 once you put like you know 80 lounds worth of you know copper into it in the
73:40 form of water blocks that they end up getting extraordinarily

73:49 about live streaming the entire uh tear down of the of the multi block
73:55 video card thing but I think that will
73:58 take too long and like I know some of you are going to be like no lus come on

75:51 been kind of out of the loop so to speak for water cooling for a while
75:55 um like we don't really review this stuff anymore so I I only really bring
75:59 it in for projects so like I know how to water cool but I don't I don't really
76:03 keep up on it the way that I used to so
76:06 both of them helped me out uh you know figuring out hey where are we going to
76:10 put the res where are we going to put the pump um how are we going to mount
76:13 the res and this Mount this like um 120
76:17 mm like bracket Mount that you can turn
76:20 into the U the anti vibration rubber mount for that Reservoir pump combo
76:25 freaking awesome love it and you can actually get a version of the of the res
76:29 pump combo that has a shorter res if I recall correctly so you are not uh
76:36 married to having something so tall so depending on your case you may actually
76:39 even be able to mount it at the back of the case on your exhaust pan don't quote
76:43 me on that one though I'm not 100% sure if that'll work out great for you my
76:47 laptop battery is about to die it's at 7% see if I can save
76:53 it oh I was so frustrated the other night cuz my phone was um was like oh
77:00 battery about to die 2% battery or whatever and then you know how you do
77:04 the whole thing where you're like I can beat it I can do this and so I like ran
77:11 to plug it in and I got it like I
77:15 actually made it it was at like 1% I'm like I made it
77:19 yeah and then while I was sitting there checking the battery level with the
77:22 screen powered on it was only plugged into a one charger so it
77:29 died I was that down to the wire that
77:33 just the fact that it was charging but not charging enough was enough to uh was
77:38 enough to take it out so disappointing because then you
77:41 got to wait like 5 minutes or whatever for it to charge up a bit like I don't I
77:45 don't really like charging my phones at 2 amps because um I like my batteries
77:49 lasting for longer so I only really do that when I'm
77:52 desperate but uh yeah I was I was pretty

78:07 that I had talked about last week of like manufacturer dos and don'ts do use
78:12 screws with iron in them because don't
78:16 use ones that are just made of like uh
78:19 there's a test bench that I was using a little while ago from deusch deusch
78:24 deusch anyway um all the screws included are aluminum
78:27 which is terrible because a if you have a magnetic screwdriver uh that doesn't
78:32 help you out a whole lot because the screw won't stick to the bit and B
78:36 aluminum is a super malleable metal like
78:39 anytime oh okay this time it's the battery don't worry we got this so
78:44 anytime um like a a thread doesn't go in
78:48 perfectly or whatever it just derps out hardcore and
78:53 and actually shear off so you end up with remnants of of screw in the hole
78:59 and then you end up with no head to actually take it out so you have to
79:03 drill it out it's ridiculous so do not use aluminum screws
79:08 and do use screws with iron in them so that I can use my magnetic screwdriver
79:13 because a magnetic screwdriver makes projects go a lot lot
79:18 faster if you work on as many of these types of projects as I do you care about
79:23 every like fraction of a second that you can save while you work on
79:30 them wow we're up to nearly 5,000 viewers man you guys if I had known you
79:35 like these kinds of streams so much I could stream like pretty much all the
79:39 time when I'm working on this kind of crap cuz I'm pretty much always doing
79:43 this like if I'm not filming actively filming a video I'm probably working on

79:51 it's like an upcoming video or teing down an old one or whatever else the cas

90:56 just in case you ever happen to have to water cool seven cards in a single
91:00 system again the kind of disappointing thing is that um ek's ek's system for
91:06 connecting the multiple cards on the bottom there's no plugs for
91:10 them so you actually have to do seven
91:13 cards that was a pretty horrifying moment when it looked like we weren't
91:18 going to get the system posted with seven cards and John from lime Tech was
91:23 like oh no it's no big deal we'll just cuz I I had actually told Kingston I
91:28 told the sponsor it'll be like six or
91:31 seven and so John's like well don't worry you told Kingston it could be six
91:36 I'm like yeah okay yes but we have a
91:39 problem I can't take out a card I can't
91:44 do six it'll have to be four with air cooling which I definitely didn't want
91:48 to do that's like admitting defeat
91:52 or it'll be seven and well you know how that story ends we
91:57 did end up getting it working but it was extremely
92:00 stressful it's like man how bad I looked in that video like
92:07 how defeated and tired I looked that was
