0:00 our coverage of ces 2019 is brought to you by dbrand their grip case and prism
0:04 screen protectors give you 360 degree coverage for even Linus drop proof
0:09 protection here we are ASUS hasn't even set up yet
0:14 in here in fact this is like they kind of pulled me aside from the pre-briefing
0:18 thing and they were like okay yeah that stuff's really cool but like
0:21 come on in here we got this and i was like
0:26 that's an rog strix scar two
0:31 why are you pulling me in here for this everything about this
0:36 is like basically normal strict scar
0:39 stuff so you got a bunch of ventilation for your cooling you got a bunch of heat
0:43 pipes and you got a bunch of heat sinks because you got powerful graphics six
0:48 core 8750h processor you got like a bunch of io sd
0:54 card reader and you know RGB backlit
0:57 keyboard and is this individually backlit yeah individually backlit cool
1:01 that's good stuff all right so okay so we got we got RGB you know ASUS living
1:06 up to their reputation clearly no Thunderbolt but lots of display we
1:11 got you know wired networking and all that cool stuff and they're like
1:15 no no no no hold on a second lioness don't walk away yet because i was half i
1:20 was halfway i was halfway out of the room i'm like look you guys don't even
1:23 respect me enough to put away your packing materials before
1:26 see all right our say seuss rep is hiding he's hiding back there because
1:30 he's like oh no i'm gonna get in all kinds of trouble for this but he's like
1:33 no come back come back because this thing is what i have been asking for for so
1:41 long so first of all they've added some better rigidity so the thing with strix
1:46 for ASUS is they can't seem to decide if it's a premium brand or if it's kind of
1:50 like their value brand because they've got rog
1:54 like the high end rog and then strix was like kind of this value one but then
1:59 they're like no no it's like it's for gaming it's premium and they're finally
2:02 taking that seriously so they've added more metal to the bottom of the chassis
2:06 so this is now a really rigid chassis like it makes the overall device feel
2:12 quite a lot better still a little flimsy up here room for improvement there but
2:16 you know baby steps right but the big thing the big thing i've been asking for
2:21 is watch this holy
2:25 crap so for years now i've been saying the
2:30 same thing that actually apple's been saying and we don't agree on everything
2:34 for sure but you don't need higher resolution once you get to the point
2:39 where you can't distinguish the individual pixels and so while 4k
2:43 displays make a ton of sense if you got a 32 inch monitor because at the
2:48 distance you'd sit you would easily be able to make out the pixels on qhd or
2:52 something like that for laptops this this race to 4k has just been
2:57 frustrating for me we're sucking up extra battery we're making the screens
3:02 dimmer because the closer you pack the pixels actually the harder it is to push
3:06 the backlight through them like we're doing all these counterproductive things
3:10 when what we should be focusing on is refresh rate this
3:14 to my knowledge is the first laptop in
3:18 the world with a 240 hertz display and not just that but
3:24 check this out so it's using a sharp exo panel that has
3:27 among the best anti-ghosting that i have
3:31 seen certainly the best i've seen on a laptop look at this like it's hard to
3:35 appreciate at 30 frames per second through a youtube compression
3:40 filter but i can read this text as i'm
3:43 moving it around on the screen that would have been
3:46 unthinkable on anything but a crt in the
3:50 past i mean maybe a high-end tn panel but but
3:53 that's not what this is this is this is an exo panel it's not like just like bad
3:58 viewing angle junk check this out
4:01 so this is the closest thing i've ever seen to a
4:06 zero compromises mobile gaming experience because high refresh rate is
4:10 a true competitive advantage where higher resolution is not and speaking of
4:16 competitive advantage unfortunately they had to have like
4:20 someone directly over my shoulder the entire time to make sure that i didn't
4:24 run any of these tantalizing benchmarks over here but this is actually going to
4:29 be equipped with an rtx 2080 max q
4:33 design or whatever NVIDIA's latest you know
4:36 nomenclature for that is now ASUS can't tell me under pain of death
4:42 what kind of performance we could expect for this compared to a regular rtx 2080
4:46 but if i had to go out on a limb i'd say well the max q1's last gen were about 10
4:51 percent lower so i wouldn't be surprised
4:55 if we saw something along those lines now there's still room for improvement here this webcam bad
5:01 terrible not only is it on the bottom it's off-center clearly they expect
5:04 absolutely no one to use it but other than that the keyboard feels better than
5:08 last gen track pad acceptable could be bigger but this is looking pretty
5:13 freaking sick so my stylist fell out but
5:16 it should be noted that that is the only damage that my phone sustained so this
5:21 is the dbrand grip it features super clicky buttons it's really grippy it's
5:26 got precise cutouts for all your various things be they fingerprint sensors
5:30 cameras or whatever the case may be and of course
5:33 fantastic impact resistance as you might expect for dbrand every grip case has a
5:38 customizable spot on the back so you can put any dbrand skin you'd like on the
5:42 back and then as for the front their prism screen protector
5:46 is kind of unbelievable so it feels very
5:50 glassy on the front but it's not glass
5:54 like there's this demo they had me do that made me feel very uncomfortable
5:58 hammering nails in with a phone that had a prism installed on the front and
6:03 somehow the screen survived i thought
6:07 like i love dbrand there are bros but i thought they must have kind of fudged it
6:11 a little bit when they did the demo but they didn't
6:15 and it's you should just go check it out at the
6:18 link in the video description
